It. Doug is live from Reagan National airport in washington with more. Of all the troubles that have plagued the gsa since its inception after 9 11 and is likely to hit as hard as this. Is internal study found groups of testers who go through screening masked as passengers carrying contraband including fake explosives and guns got through security 67 out of 70 times announcing to a failure rate of 95 almost total failure. With an annual budget of 7 billion a Year American taxpayers can rightly consider the gsa to be wasting a lot of money. Not much better than was before 9 11 because this is meant to be a deterrent. Is not the great wall of china. It wont stop the next 911. After this was leaked to the press secretary of Homeland Security j johnson announced several changes. He is reassigning the acting administrator to a new job, to immediately confirm the psa administrative nominee, assigned to the new job. Announced a 6 point plan of changes which will be taking effect immediately including immediately revising Standard Operating Procedures briefing security directors on these failures, new training for all screeners, retesting all security equipment, more random screening tests whether these new measures are working and he will announce Senior Leaders to oversee these changes. Johnson issued a statement in the aftermath of the leakage of this information. He said in part of the numbers in these reports never will good out of context the dairy critical element in the continual evolution of our Aviation Security but this internal report confirms what many critics long said about the psa, not so much about security as the appearance of security. Jenna we know you are Reagan National airport. Do we had any idea which airports we are focused on during this look into security . That information has not been divulged. This is an internal report meant to be kept private for internal scrutiny only. I dont know if that information will be forthcoming but it involves several airports not just one. Jenna the nations busiest will be here so we will wait and see. If you get that information the headline is shocking and we will have more on that. Thank you very much. Our big story today, we will have more on the security lapses said the psa as with the agency needs to do to make improvements. We will talk to Deputy Director just moments from now. Jon from americas election headquarters with more candidates jumping into the 2016 race for the white house and interesting piece from the wall street journal caught our attention. Is a Third Political party straining to break out in america . Listen to the early sound of the president ial campaign in which candidates of the left and the right sound almost identical, populist, anti wall street antiestablishment. The idea doesnt sound so crazy. National reporter for the washington post, Elizabeth Harrington staff writer for the Washington Free begin is also with us. What do you think . Is there a really possibility of a third party or some kind of Movement Toward populist themes breaking out . Look at Bernie Sanders, registered independent but running as a democrat, that tells you what you need to know about the likelihood of a third party rising up and running. The way our system is set up, the way the money flows, with decreasing parties have so much powerg out the vote and the infrastructure the chances of actual thirdparty seems unlikely but this idea that populism is talked about on both sides isnt that unusual and you have to thing populism, something Ronald Reagan was talking about, it is less about policy and less about image and telling voters listen, we care about the average american. Jon on the left you have a candidate named Hillary Clinton who is worth tens of millions, maybe hundreds of millions of dollars going on a listening for listening to the concerns of every day americans. Right. Populism is always there in rhetoric for candidates but especially prominent in this election cycle because you have everyone running against Hillary Clinton. You have Hillary Clinton who is seen as a front runner, seen as the most wellknown as hillary running against hillary, trying to say she is the champion for everyday voters so everyone is trying to put themselves up hard against the establishment connect with every day americans and that is why you see when you have on the republican side, jeb bush and democrat Hillary Clinton, that dynamic everyone else is trying to be like we dont want clinton bush, we want to relate and relate to americans and be seen as an outsider. Jon thinking of what happened to mitt romney when he made that 47 comments, that seemed to define the rest of his campaign. He could not escape it. Absolutely. Before that happens look at Rick Santorum. There were a lot of factors that went into Rick Santorum coming in effectively second in 2012 one of those was he appealed to the working class, blue collar conservative went around iowa and listen to the average voter average voters felt mitt romney a very wealthy man, very privileged, could relate and that played out again when he made the 47 and. Voters didnt like that and l their presence. Voters didnt like that and voters want to feel their presence is looking out for them. Jon from former White House Communications director dan feinberg he writes he finds himself in rare agreement with karl rove and the growing size of the 2016 republican field is actually a good thing. What do you think about that . Some of the republican side said they are concerned that this field is going to cannibalize all the candidates cannibalize one another. It is a good thing for the gop because they have no next in line. The field is wide open, gives a lot of people chance to get in, to move the party in which direction they want to move it and when you have competition it really does help the eventual general election candidate because they have to prove themselves and carve out a big section of the gop collect for it. The fear is if it is up too much, it is too bruised for the general election but i dont see that happening with so many candidates. There is only going to be a lot of fighting going around and that wont hurt the eventual nominee because there will be so many candidates taking pressure off the eventual nominee. Jon if Hillary Clinton is the democratic nominee and right now she is way ahead in the polls, anything could happen but we will see, she would not have to spend a lot of money on a primary election fight, she can focus all of her attention on whoever wins the republican side. Absolutely true. Will get the first debate in 2012. Mitt romney had gone through 20 some debate, he was college train, ready. Obama got up there and was rusty and wasnt ready yet is because he hadnt gone through the primary training that mitt romney had been obama did well in later debate that that is something Hillary Clinton needs to be conscious of. She needs to make sure she is answering questions from her democratic primary challengers martin omalley, Bernie Sanders and if she is the nominee which seems inevitable that she will be ready to take on whoever emerges from the republican field. Jon republican field is quite varied. It is the Good Opportunity for the gop to show off its diversity, two cuban americans, ted cruz and marco rubio, ceos, female ceo, senators young people, fluent spanish speakers, jeb bush, marco rubio, says this is unusual for the gop when voters see the gop primary the debate stage they will see something they are not used to they will see a bunch of different faces, fresh faces, a lot of diversity that really the democrat side doesnt have this time. They are running all white, sort of older candidates this time and it is going to be i think helpful for the gop it has to be, especially to see voters seeing something they are not used to. Jon thank you. Jenna fox news alert, lawmakers on the House Transportation Committee grilling safety regulators and amtrak officials right now over why of rail line did not move faster to install safety upgrades that could have slowed down a speeding train before it derailed in philadelphia king eight dean lind injuring hundreds more. Peter has this story from washington. Peter officials dont know if there were defects with the train or the track even though the engineer, Brendan Bostian is being looked at. Some of them are still in the hospital. Probably human error. We dont know if there was a mechanical malfunction. It is relatively new train set but we dont know yet. Jon new information affect talks with iran on reining in its nuclear program. International inspectors reported irans stockpile of nuclear fuel increased by 20 during the past yearandahalf of negotiations. That makes an agreement even more complicated for the Obama Administration just weeks for the deadline. Rich edson has more from the white house. Peter that political agreement would impose the most intrusive set of inspections every impose on a countrys nuclear program. The president will not sign an agreement that doesnt reflect the agreement that was made in context of the political agreement announced the first week in april. That it had fuel stockpiles, questions as to whether iran is increasing its stockpile on the one hand there is some International Analysts saying perhaps it has to do with irans stockpiling in case the Nuclear Agreement and talks fall apart. It might be iran has no way of getting rid of that stockpile under the Framework Agreement they are supposed to reduce their stockpile by about 97 . The u. S. Negotiating with its partners in iran. The agreement the framework would kerf Irans Nuclear program and subject them to International Inspections exchange the west would give them relief from economic sanctions they had in place for some time. Jon so many questions yet to be answered about this whole thing rich edson at the white house, thank you. Four people seriously injured on this rollercoaster called the smaller ride at the austin powers amusement parks in king. They were just getting the first images of an accident that transpired. According to eyewitnesses at the park there was a problem with the ride and several problems with the ride since it opened in 2013 and so what they did the operator singe an empty carriage on to the track and proceed to send a carriage with 16 people on it on the track and somehow some way there was a collision between the two carriages. 16 people totaling one carriage, four injured and a lot of questions as to why this happened. This is a huge rollercoaster. We will look and getting a big image so you can see with this rollercoaster actually looks like billed as the worlds first 14 loop rollercoaster and the Guinness World record for that. Jon americas election headquarters with gop president ial hopefuls declared and undeclared taking part in an Economic Growth summit in florida, a state that not only plays a key role in the general election but also in the winnertakeall gop primary less than a year from now. Political correspondent carl cameron in orlando with that. Florida has been positioning for an influential role in nominating politics decades, the 2016 race may be the one in which they score very big. Florida because it is the first winnertakeall state and one of the biggest states in the country and half of the actual delegates to the convention will have been selected prior to march 15th next year when florida holds its primary this could be the race that provides one candidate break opportunity. Florida governor jeb bush has an advantage as those marco rubio. Seven candidates will address the forum today, rick scott only the second two term governor of florida in history, jeb bush being the first has been touting his States Economic successes as had rick perry i short while ago. One of the speakers. And we heard from Mike Huckabee who took issue with both jeb bush and chris christie, the governor of new jerseys assertion that medicare and Social Security should be considered for means testing and or raising eligibility ages. Mike huckabee is running a populist economic plan saying that is a very bad idea take a listen. I know the republican mantra is we have to make major changes and benefits paid to secure it Social Security and medicare. That is a recipe not only for political suicide but that is a recipe for economic suicide. Part of today was billed as the first time marco rubio would stand on the stage with jeb bush, his former mentor turned rival. Jeb bush will speak today, marco rubio did not come down here today, but he could make it in order to the washington to deal with the passage of the page reenacted deal with the National Surveillance programs and not the opportunity to see the two buddies and rivals go at it. Jon someone has to win that state. You can catch the Economic Growth summit streaming live on foxnews. Com. Jenna screener is missing every weapons smuggled through by undercover officers. A former top gsa official joins us next on what we can do to fix it. Every Auto Insurance policy has a number. But not every Insurance Company understands the life behind it. Those who have served our nation have earned the very best service in return. Usaa. We know what it means to serve. Get an Auto Insurance quote and see why 92 of our members plan to stay for life. Jenna acting director of the Transportation Security Administration is reassigned after escaping report on Airport Security failures. Undercover agents smuggled weapons and mark explosives through checkpoints almost 100 of the time. Theyre ordering the agency to be the procedures a lot of questions about this. That form the former Deputy Director at the tee essay. How do we fix this . We have to come at it from multiple points. The entire country has become too complacent about the threat of terrorism presents. Secondly, the gsa the culture of security has given way to a culture of Customer Service where the concern is wait times, and getting more people loaded into the free check line instead of assuring that prohibited items and press objects dont get through. That begins to call into question the management and performance metrics t s aid leadership has installed. That needs reviewed, it needs changed. I was particularly glad to see the secretary is calling for review of the technology that is deployed, whether it works or doesnt work, calling the privatesector together to make sure as they change their culture and improve their performance they have the necessary tools to find these red objects getting through. Jenna a lot of us have had a water bottle taken away or shampoo and . They are able to get bombs through or guns it is quite shocking. Even if they could improve famous, of getting things through 50 of the time, what would be deemed successful that nothing ever gets through . Is that a possible bowl . It is not a possible bowl to stop every threat object. Theres only one way to do that but all the planes on the ground and a bad thing will never happen. Security is of filter and not a guarantee. This level of performance eastern not acceptable and beyond that we have the secretary of effectively taking control of the agency. Things of got to improve, they have to set reasonable metrics and they have got to reduce the threat the bad guys are presenting. Jenna and metrics you mentioned, what would actually be successful for the tee as a . For people wondering today whether or not the gsa is even affected at all. Do you believe that the psa can be fixed or is it too big to fail at this point . We need to scrap everything and start over . I dont think we need to do that but it could be reviewed. That would require congress to change the law because much of what t s a does day in and day out is implement laws passed in 2001. Is time to review how we go about doing all this but it is unfair to say that the security gap is wide open because we are doing background checks through secure flights, and many other things are being checked as passengers 2 million a day come to the checkpoint. That doesnt excuse this performance but it does say the combination of factors makes it safe to continue flying. Jenna appreciate your time as always. Thank you very much. Jon unusual ceremony at the white house. The medal of honor posthumously awarded for conspicuous gallantry in world war i to Army SergeantWilliam Schuman an army private Henry Johnson. Lets listen to president obama. No one who serves our country should never be forgotten. We are a nation, a people who remember our heros. We take seriously our responsibility to all recent them when war is necessary we strive to care for them and their families when they come home. We never forget their sacrifice and we believe it is never too late to say thank you. That is why we are here this morning. Today america honors two of her sons who served in world war i nearly a century ago. These two soldiers were roughly the same age dropped into the battlefields of france at roughly the same time. They both risked their own lives to save the lives of others. They both left us decades ago before we could give them the full recognition that they deserved. But it is never too late to say thank you. Today we present americas highest military decoration the medal of honor, to private Henry Johnson and Sergeant William shw shwmuf shwmuf. Thank you to everybody made this a possible. Family, friends, admirers, some of you have worked four years to honor these euros to give them the honor they should have received a long time ago. We are grateful that you never gave up, we are appreciative of your efforts. As a young man, Henry Johnson joined millions of other African Americans on the great migration from the rural south to the industrial north. People in search of a better and life. He landed in albany where he mixed sodas at a pharmacy, worked in a coal yard and as a porter at a train station. When the United States entered world war i henry enlisted, he joined one of only a few units that he could. Be all black, 369th infantry regiment, the harlem hell fighters. Soon he was headed overseas. At the time our military was segregated. Most black soldiers serve in labor battalions not combat units. But general pershing sent the 369th to fight with french army which accepted them as their own. They lived up to their name and in the early hours of may 15th, 1918 Henry Johnson became a legend. His battalion was in northern france tucked into a trench. Henry and another soldier, roberts, stood sentry on no mans land legions of predawn it was pitch black and silent and then a click the sound of wire cutters. A german Raiding Party, at least a dozen soldiers, maybe more fired a hail of bullets. Henry fired back until his rifle was empty, then he and needham threw grenades. Both of them were hit. Needham lost consciousness. Two any soldiers began to carry him away while another provided cover, firing at henry. But henry refused to lead and take his brother in arms. He shoved another magazine into his rifle. It jammed, he turned the gun around and swung it at one of the enemy, knocking him down. Then he grabs the only weapon he had left, his bolo knife and went to rescue gm. Henry. Henry took down one enemy soldier l. A. Is finally reinforcements arrived in the last and missile for fraud. The sun rose the scale of what happened became clear. In just a few minutes of fighting two americans had defeated an entire rating party and Henry Johnson saved his fellow soldier from being taken prisoner. Henry became one of our most famous soldiers from the war. Former president Teddy Roosevelt wrote that he was one of the bravest men in the war. In 1919, henry rhodes triumphantly in a victory parade. Crowds lined fifth avenue for miles cheering this american soldier. Henry was one of the First Americans to receive frances highest award of valor. His own nation didnt toward him anything. Not even the purple heart though he had been wounded 21 times. Nothing for his bravery though he had saved a fellow soldier at great risk to himself. His injuries left him cripples. He couldnt find work. His marriage fell apart ending his early 30s he passed away. America cant change what happened to Henry Johnson. We cant change what happened to too many soldiers like him who went uncelebrated because our nation judge them by the color of their skin and not the content of their character but we can do our best to make it right. In 1996 president clinton awarded Henry Johnson a purple heart and today 97 years after his extraordinary acts of courage and selflessness i am proud to award him the medal of honor. We are honored to be joined by some per special guests, veterans of henrys regiment the 369th. Thank you to each of you for your service. I would ask command Sergeant Major in lewis wilson of the New York National guard to come forward and accept this metal on private johnsons behalf. [applause] the president of the United States of america, authorized by act of congress, march 30th king 63 has awarded in the name of congress the medal of honor to private Henry Johnson, United States army. President private Henry Johnson by extraordinary acts of hair was met the rest of his life above and beyond the call of duty, serving as a member of company c, 369th infantry regiment, nineteenth infantry division, American Expeditionary forces on may 15th, 1918, during congress combat operations against the enemy on the western front in france. In the running Morning Hours private johnson and another soldier were on sentry duty at the forward outpost when they received a surprise attack from a german Raiding Party consisting of at least 12 soldiers. While under intense enemy fire and despite receiving significant wounds private Johnson Mountain brave retaliation resulting in several any casualties. When his fellow soldier was badly wounded and carried away by the enemy, private johnson exposed himself to great danger by advancing from his position to engage two any captors in handtohand combat wielding only at knife and gravely wounded himself, private johnson continued fighting, but rescuing the wounded soldier. Displaying great courage continued to hold back the larger enemy force until the defeated enemy retreated leaving behind a large cache of weapons and the clement providing valuable intelligence. Without private johnsons quick action and continued fighting, even in the face of almost certain death the enemy might have succeeded in capturing prisoners in the outpost without abandoning valuable intelligence. Private johnsons extraordinary heroism and selflessness above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and great credit upon himself, company c, 369th infantry regiment, 90 Third Infantry Division and the United States army. [applause] [applause] growing gut in new jersey William Sherman loved sports. Football, wrestling, boxing, swimming requiring physical and mental toughness that made your heart pump, your muscles ache. He was all in. As a teenager he played semipro baseball but when america entered the war and posters asked if he was tough enough there was no question about it, he was going to serve. Too young to a list, no problem. He lied about his age. That is how he joined and shipped out for france. On august 7th, 1918, on the western front the allies were hunkered down in one trench the germans in another separated by 150 yards of open space a football field and a half. That opens space was a bloodbath. Soldier after soldiers ventured out and soldier after soldier was mowed down. Those still in the trenches were left with a terrible choice. Die trying to rescue your fellow soldier or watch him die, knowing that part of you will die along with him. William shemin couldnt stand to watch. He ran out into the hell of no mans land and dragged a wounded comrade to safety and then he did it again. And again. Three times he raced through heavy machine gun fire. Three times he carried his fellow soldiers to safety. The battle stretched on for days. Eventually the platoons leadership broke down. Too many officers have become casualties so williams stepped up and took command. Reorganized the depleted squads. Every time there was the while in combat he led rescues of the wounded. The the lieutenant later described it william was cool, and personally utterly fearless. The young king about his age grew up fast in war. He received accolades for his valor including the distinguished service cross. When he came home, william went to school for forestry and began a nursery business in the bronx. It was hard work, lots of physical labor just like he liked it. He married a redhaired, blueeyed woman named bertha and they had three children who gave him 14 grandchildren. He bought a house upstate where the grand kids spent their summer swimming and riding horses, taught them how to salute, and lower and fold it. Taught them how to be americans. Williams stayed in touch with fellow veterans too and when world war ii came and went and talked about signing up again. Is war injuries had given him a terrible when but treated them like he treated his age all those years ago. Pay no attention to that, he said. He knew how to build roads and camouflage maybe there was a place for him in this war too. The army said the best thing he could do for his country was keep running his business and take care of his family. His daughter lc who is here today with what seems like a platoon of shemins has a theory of what drove her father to serve. He was the son of russian immigrants and he was devoted to his jewish faith. Is family lived through, they sighthounds destroyed and children killed. Then they came to america and found haven all that in one generation. That is what america meant to him and why he would do anything for this country. As much as america meant to your father he means even more to america. It takes our nation too long sometimes to say so. Because Sergeant Shemin served at a time when contributions of heroism of Jewish Americans in uniform were too often overlooked. But William Shemin saved american lives. Represented our nation with honor. It is my privilege on behalf of the American People to make this right and with the medal of honor to Sergeant William shemin. I want to invite his daughters, lc and ida, 86, and 83, and gorgeous, to accept this metal on their fathers behalf. [applause] [applause] be seated. The president of the United States of america of a rise by act of Congress March 30th king 63 has awarded in the name of congress the medal of honor Sergeant William shemin, United States army. Sergeant William Shemin is distinguished himself by heroism that the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a rifleman with the companys second battalion 47th infantry regiment Fourth DivisionAmerican Expeditionary forces in connection with combat operations against an armed enemy in france from august 7th to august 9th, 1918. Sergeant shemin and three locations left coverage across an open space 150 yards repeatedly exposing himself to heavy machinegun and rifle fire to rescue wounded. After officers and senior noncommissioned officers have become casualties Sergeant Shemin took command of the platoon and displayed Great Initiative under fire until. And on august 9th. Sergeant shemin antiterrorism and selflessness above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself with the company, second battalion 47th infantry regiment, Fourth Division, a measure American Expeditionary forces and the United States army. [applause] [applause] [applause] ready to go. [laughter] it has taken a long time for Henry Johnson and William Shemin to receive the recognition that they deserve and there are surely others whose heroism is still unacknowledged and uncelebrated. We have work to do as the nation. To make sure that all of our heros stories are told and we will keep at it no longer how long it takes. America is the country we are today because of people like henry and william. Americans who signed up to serve and rose to meet their responsibilities and then went beyond. The least we can do is to say we know who you are, we know what you did for us. We are forever grateful. May god bless the fallen of all our wars. May you watch over our veterans and their families and all those who serve today. May god bless the United States of america. With that i asked the chaplain to return to the podium for benediction. Lord of all, as we go forward today we ask you to in still within us your peace your courage your strength. Lead us to all that is good and brings honor to your creation. Help us to defeat the evils we face each day bless us with the wisdom to celebrate and recognize our capacity for good to free the oppressed let us serve all with fowler as these men have shown and witnessed to us today. Be upon us now and remain with us, amen. We conclude the formal ceremony we welcome everybody to join in a wonderful reception and give medal of honor winners when big round of applause.
