But are other American Companies in jeopardy and viewers, their banking records and all of that, is it up for grabs . It is a big National Security threat that the president will have to address . There are studies that say with this, now that we have identified north korea as mainly responsible for this, this boosts them up in terms of their ranking and in the top half dozen. Do i know specifically . I am not the expert on whether north korea has the capability of doing this. It is certainy on everybodys mind and the reporters are going to want the president to address. But taking executive actions and there is huffing and puffing and so far congress cannot stop him whether on the immigration and delay of deportation and stating of diplomatic relations between the two countries, he can show whether you like it or not he is a key player in the town and limits to what a new Republican Congress can do to stop him if he exercises authority. It is at least until the court stops him an ability to affect things on its own. And bob cusack calls it the president s new found fredom because of the degree of success. And now we know that a lot of the it is taking place. He has more than he can do with that . Thats what they are anticipating. One of the the areas before the election environmental regulations and he made a deal with china and not sending to congress. They are putting out more environmental regulations on clean air and water. Clean air especially. And there is a lot that it the president can do until someone is able to stop him or wants to stop him on his own without going to congress. And one of the questions is whether or not he will be able to work with congress on the issues as we saw in the case of the spending bill. The republicans didnt want a government shutdown. And you have a coalition of republicans and democrats on the senate ignoring both wings of both, liberal and conservative of the republicans passing that bill. Who could stop him john roberts in the Supreme Court . We expect a decision dealing with obama care. And the talk of the imperial presiden presidency . That it take its to a new level. Does it set up a constitutional issue or crisis . What happens in terms of the executive power . A lot of people in washington, will say this president greatly oversteps this. The house took the president to court over the delay in the employer man date and obama care. And you have another case that is before the Supreme Court and maybe the most serious challenge to obama care and that involves federal changes and in addition to state subsidies. And that will be decided before june. When you have this kind of a clash in a separation of powers. It is usually the Supreme Court that has to act as a arbiter. And who is beyond the lines and coloring outside of the lines if you will. And how did this play out with politics and Hillary Clinton for example and the potential for a republican nominee . I always wondered in the terms of the strategy of the white house they call a 1 30 News Conference and 1 42. And they allow us to deliver a message that the president doesnt want to put out. If i were running for the white house, but i would have him speak at 1 30 and get the comment attors off of the air. And sitting there watching chris. And there are splits in both parties. You saw that with Elizabeth Warren and the democrats when they talked about some of the policy riders that were add to make it easier for the banks to put out investments in derivatives. Elizabeth warrens said this is not liberal or conservative, that is about money. That is popular with the liberal base of the democratic party. And i suspect that something that Hillary Clinton will have to worry about if she decides to run next year. On the republican side. Huge splits and we saw a fascinating one in the cuban policy. Where marco rubio has been leading the charge against the president on easing relations against havana and hes in a cat fight with ran paul who said that is Old Fashioned and hes taking the obama approach. Notes inially on policy. But questioning the old conventional wisdom against marco rubio. Interesting splits. Chris, we want to bring in, and i was talking about him. Bob cusack from the the hill. Bob . I guess you heard us talking about you. We talked about the president s new found freedom as you call it on the paper on the hill. I want to ask you. The president was supposed to start at 1 30. What is going on behind the scenes. Is the president running through the answers or is he off doing Something Else right now . He has a habit of running late to these things and there is a lot of preparation. And there are easy ones that will be dominated by the sony issue as well as cuba and one other issue that you havent discussed is key stone. And when is he finally going to decide on key stone. Thats one of the things that republicans will send to his desk early. It has the votes in the house and senate. And the question is will he sign it . There is a lot of flurry of paper work going on and he has a habit of being tardy. In terms of the White House Press corps. How are they coming up with the questions. You only get one shot and you want to ask the question that makes the newscast . You are talking about to the bureau chief and editors. One way to ask the question is one question and different outlets do it differently. You want to make news. You want to answer a question that is direct. A lot of politicians answer the questions they want to answer. But one big question that the president will answer and make news. You think he will be asked about cub a. The human watch report said 57000 or so cubans that are currently in work camps. It seemed like the media gave the administration a free pass on that. Do you think they will ask about that . I think so. You remember rand paul sided with the president on this, at the same time, there is democratic critics of. This the outgoing chairman of the Foreign Affairs committee in the senate robert men endez issued a skrathing 600 page press release ripping the president for this deal. The democrats, some of them didnt like the bargain or compromise that he struck with cuba. This is what president obama is doing. Do you think he will be asked about that and his feet will be put to the four on the realities in life in cuba . Yes, i think he will deflect it. What is interesting to me as we are talking about it. We have waited all of this time for him to start. My hope is he will go for the hour and doesnt take this out of our time. There is a ton of questions and the questions i have thought of in the past few minutes tying the dealings with the new congress and north korea question, will the president inject himself in a debate that is bubbling behind the scenes in congress over the issue of getting the federal government involved in setting Cyber Security standards . It has not had a lot of attention, but you all have alluded to it and should there be a congressional environment and standards . Many in congress say yes but there is not a bipartisan meeting of the minds. Republicans think the democrats want too many stiff regulations on corporate america. And this is one way in which the president could have a new agenda item to insert himself on and i believe he will talk about the economy. And he will be wanting to talk about things he can get the republicans to agree with him on. You will hear about trade and tax overhaul. And david, let me get you back to one thing. It is a movie and the set and all of those salacious emails with scott rudden. That is not the point. It is a signer attack by a Foreign Government and violates our democracy and freedom that we hold so dear and john mccain is calling it an act of war. The fbi said it poseds one of the gravest National Security dangers to the United States. Man, oh, man, that is serious language. The fbi, the grave danger to our security. He is the commander in chief, what does he say about the grave danger that has already hit our country . I think to go back to what we are saying before, i dont think he will be too bellicose to north korea. You know, to be honest, i dont know what he will say. I think he will try to sound a harsh tone and try to apply the economic pressure he is can. And in the past couple of minutes. Senator bob mendenous issued a statement and trying to hold the president s feet to the fire said the president should come before the cameras and label north korea a state sponsored rogue of terrorism. Nermz of threatening what he can do, hard to understand. I dont think youre going to hear him talk about any lines in the sand. Thats a good point because the state department did take north korea off that list. Its interesting to see if, indeed, he is if north korea is put back on the list after this suspected attack. Well, just strategically, i think what you will hear the president in his Opening Statement is going to say what he wants to say, and i suspect it will be a lot of what david said about how he wants to deal with congress. A lot of focus on the economy because he knows once the reporters get the questions any good news, any positive message he wants to get out. The only time is he going to really control this is in his Opening Statement. When the president comes out, sometimes when theres a big issue at hand, you want to hear him hit that big issue that we all want to know about, but oftening times he will come out with something about obama care or something that isnt as news worthy on any given day. To your point, we might be expecting that. My question is there will be fewer questions, if not than if he gave shorter answers. North korea was taken off the list. The state sponsor of terrorists. When you have the fbi of this country saying this was a grave Security Threat against our country you have to wonder if is he going to change policy. Here is the president. Really have a full house today, huh . Yeah. All i want for christmas is to take your questions. But, first, let me say a little bit about this year. The steps we took to rebuild our economy on a new foundation helped make 2014 the strongest year for job growth since the 1990s. All told, over a 57 month streak our businesses have created nearly 11 million new jobs. Almost all the job growth that weve seen have been in fulltime positions. Much of the recent pick up in job growth has been in higher paying industries, and in a hopeful sign for middle class families, wages are on the rise again. Our investments in American Manufacturing have helped fuel its best stretch of job growth also since the 1990s. America is now the number one producer of oil. The number one producer of natural gas. Were saving drivers about 70 cents a gallon at the pump over last christmas. Effectively today our rescue of the Auto Industry is officially over on. As for the Affordable Care act, about ten million americans have gained Health Insurance just this past year. The price of health care has risen at its slowest rate in about 50 years. Weve cut our deficits by about twothirds since i took office bringing them to below their 40year average. Were leading the International Community to check russian aggression in ukraine. We are leading the global fight to combat ebola in west africa. And we are preventing an outbreak from taking place here at home. After more than 13 years our combat mission in afghanistan is over. Today more of our troops are home for the holidays than any time in over a decade. Still, they should know the country is united in support of you, and grateful not only to you, but also to your families. We have more jobs, more people insured, a growing economy, shrinking deficits, bustling industry, booming energy. Pick any metric you want. Americas resurgence is real. We are better off. I have said that recovering from the america has outperformed all of our other competitors. Weve now come to a point where we have the chance to reverse an even deeper problem. The decades long erosion of middle class jobs and incomes. To do that were going to have to make some smart choices. Weve got to make the right choices. Were going to have to invest in the things that secure even faster growth in higher paying jobs for more americans. Im being sincere when i say i want to work with this new congress to get things done. Were going to disagree on some things, but there will be areas of agreement, and we want to make sure that happened, and thats going to involve compromise. We saw that perhaps that spirit of compromise may be coming to the fore. Im excited about the prospects for the next couple of years, and im not going to be stopping for a minute in an effort to make life better for ordinary americans. Thanks to their efforts, we really do have a new foundation thats been laid. We are better positioned than we have been in a very long time. A new future is ready to be written. Weve set the stage for this american moment. Im going to spend every minute of my last two years making sure that we seize it. My presidency is entering the fourth quarter. Interesting stuff happens in the fourth quarter. Im looking forward to it, but, you know, going into the fourth quarter, you usually get a timeout. Im now looking forward to a quiet timeout.
