So that sounds a lot more serious than the condition that the doctors were saying that President Trump is in pep and you know, normally we wouldnt give what a senior Administration Official is saying perhaps as much weight as what his doctors are saying, but in this case, i think it is very important because this is somebody that has been with President Trump last night, and this morning here at walter reed. As for the president s treatment, as you might expect when youre dealing with the president of the United States, it is extensive. The president received an antibody cocktail developed by drug maker zinc and heartburn medicine melatonin and aspirin and here at walter reed doctors put him on remdesivir set up to recovery for some people who have covid19. If he needs all five days that will likely be the course. But again, every day were reviewing and continue his needs for being here. There has been such a an uproar about whether or not the president took supplemental oxygen is that significant from a health standpoint and from a medical standpoint, i mean, what do you make of the uproar . Well the most important thing jon, is that the president has not required supplemental oxygen in the last 24 hours. That was clear from his doctors today. Now, whether or not he got a whiff of supplemental oxygen at the white house before he went to the hospital, you know, it is something we do sometimes as physicians either if we dont know what were dealing with or we want to see what the blood saturation increases to on supplemental oxygen solet say for example, his oxygen saturation was 92 . You could get supplemental oxygen and see what it goes to. Fact of the oxygen saturation right now on 96 tells you that his lungs are functioning as good as possible. Jon yeah. I dont know oxygen is not going to hurt anybody if you give it to them, right . Yeah. It certainly something we try and lets look at what we know liver function tests are normal vital signs are normal 96 and suggest he could walk out of the a hospital thats a pretty good outlook when doctors give optimistic prognosis on top of that so im feeling pretty good about his case overall. But ive read where the antibody drug from regeneron given to him and remdesivir they are both sort of not experimental is maybe the word you want to use, and some pundits out there saying this must mean the president has really been whacked by this virus. [laughter] you know really remarkable to see the chatter in cable news about whats happening. He got remdesivir it is standard of care so i dont understand the outrage there. But theres a question about the two senators who are on the Judiciary Committee who have been diagnosed with coronavirus and thom tillis of North Carolina, and senator mike lee of utah, now theyre both apartment of the committee. But you dont necessarily need a Committee Vote to move her nomination to the full senate. Is that correct . Thats exactly right. Well the first instance you dont need a Committee Vote or anything frankly to the hearing. There often a business meeting where committee will report to the floor but there are plenty of example of nominee straight to the floor, without the need for a Committee Vote under senate rule 27. And of course theres a floor vote on that republicans do control the majority in the senate still today. But they need to have basically every single republican present and voting, they cant have anybody in the hospital, obviously, if they want to get this nominee through. Senator is being in the hospital could be problematic and look, the fact of the matter is that theres a desire to delay this nomination once in thes pass election even past the time the president time in office but president has done this job nominating Amy Coney Barrett a highly qualified nominee nobody raised a direct point about how she should not be on Supreme Court it is a matter of process of election so should do a job and confirm her to the highest court in the land. But in the past it has always been about medical professionals, treating their patients about when youre worried about ebola other viruses, whether it be swine flu and other novel viruses or great dangerous bacteria we talk about what is best and we look at medical professionals to design studies to tell us how to treat our patients with some sort of us a autonomy when you get politicians involved it becomes politicized because it affects the way we talk about the disease. Jon with the president s covid19 diagnosis, both candidates are rethinking some of their Campaign Strategies just one month ahead of the election. Joining me now Senior Campaign reporter for the Washington Examiner Kerry Pickett thanks for being here. When you take a look at the Biden Campaign and the Trump Campaign, what does the president s covid diagnosis do to both . Well, first off, of course, you have President Trump who he Just Launched the operation maga that means that a lot of his subordinate Campaign Coalition and Vice President pence theyre going to be hitting the campaign trail and a lot of work for him but hes doing a lot of work behind the scenes as well. Until the president feels strong you have in to hit the campaign trail himself. But ultimately it does sort of sideline him now a lot of people, of course, are saying well, you know, this is beginning to sort of hit him on weak side because he was criticized about how he handled the pandemic. But a number of republicans, including Kevin Mccarthy said wait a minute hell be able to talk about the fact that hes using therapeutics to get better and talk about a lot of vaccination that are sort of the development. That was something that the democrats didnt want him talking about. So thats going to sort of help him over on that end. As far as biden is concerned, this gives him a chance to sort of get out there himself on campaign trail and sort of say give him sort of a see i told you so molt and thats fine and dandy but thing is, though, that still he is still talking to very sparsely attended audiences, and you know, hell help people like Bernie Sanders along with joe biden. But ultimately hes going to have a careful about having that see i told you so moment because you know, people are wondering who is he telling it to not a lot of people and you have also biden flipflopping on whole issue of door knocking. All of a sudden the Biden Campaign is now door knocking something that they were criticizing the Trump Campaign for doing for many, many months thats a lot to do. Jon i want to take a look at the one the senate races that is getting a lot of attention, obviously, control of the senate very much an open question when voters go to the polls a month from now. The North Carolina senate race hits the republican tom thom tillis hes been behind in the polls, but there has been sort of an earth shattering revelation about cunningham hes involved in a sexting scandal and it could affect well it could frankly go to courtmartial, right . Right. Now, we have an issue here because cunningham hes army reserves. And because hes in the army reserve because he has this sexting scandal going on that could bring into a courtmartial. Theres also going to be issues about well, where a Campaign Funds used maybe to meet this perhaps mistress, were there any physical issues going on between the two of them were there any sexual issues beginning on between two of them. When was the last time they they met there are lots of issues going on plus early voting hasnt even started in that state yet. So that is something for Cal Cunningham campaign to think about. Jon and the, you know, North Carolina is a, you know, military heavy state. And the woman involved is the wife of an army veteran as well that would seem not to play very well in a state with a pretty strong significant military presence. Indeed. Once again, were going to have to also think about those military ballots which once again are going to have to be a considered jon lets take a look at the michigan race President Trump won michigan the democrat incumbent for senate there peters is ahead of the republican challenger john james. But james did pretty well when he took on debby he ran against her two years ago when her seat was up and he came within six points. Shes a fixture in michigan politics. That is definitely a race to watch, and both parties are now pouring a lot of money into it. Yeah. It is incredible think about this. You have john james he lost that senate race in 2018 during the blue wave. The blue wave and that does an incredible race to watch because it was more of okay well maybe he didnt pour it off in 2018 but if you have donald trump who can be at the top of the ticket in, in a 2020, that means that you might be able to perhaps be able to pull john james over finish line over this time around and on top of that, peters he had a real problem with name id. A lot of didnt know who he was. He they didnt know that he was their senator. It took a while to help him even raise money because for number of quarters, you have john james who outraised him for a number of times. He did take the seat of carl levin long time senator and i suppose from that standpoint maybe not surprising that people havent necessarily figured out role there. [laughter] what about the congressional reaction to President Trumps covid diagnosis . Give us your take yeah. Its, it really depends because if you had talked to certain democrats who are shall i say feistier who really were kind of jumped on the impeachment train early so i say like brad sherman, for example. Spoke with him and hell say well, you kind of vote what you sew attitude people like you know castro congressman castro who will face the same thing. Whereas you have other democrats who will say, well, you know, wish him well. But you know, would like to make sure that he wears a mask, and he also encourages other people to wear a mask as well. But jon the president kerry did release recently in the last few minutes on twitter a video of from walter reed i want to play just a section of that for you here its about bipartisanship. Listen. All appreciate whats been said by the American People, by almost a bipartisan consensus of American People, beautiful they think to thing to see and promise you i wont forget it. I also want to thank the leaders of the world for their condolences and their, they know what were going through. They know as your leader what i have to go through. But i had no choice because i just didnt want to stay in the white house i was given that. Stay in the white house, lock yourself in dont ever leave dont even go to Oval Office Just stay up stairs and enjoy it dont see people or talk to people and just be done with it and i cant do that. I had to be out front. So thats part what have the president just put out on twitter regarding his stay at walter reed. You have to say he sounds pretty good. Yeah. He does, of course, heard doctors also say that the next 48 hours are, obviously, very critical with a number of democrats are also wishing him lots of, you know, speedy recovery.
