Station in london. Friendly fire in the Democratic Party. The selfdescribed socialist who ousted longtime congressman joe crowley in a shocking defeat is now trying to take down other Democratic Party icons. Hello and welcome to fox news night. Im Shannon Bream in washington. Sparks flew today in congress as a public hearing with the embattled fbi agent who sent antitrump Text Messages tumbled into a heated political freeforall. G. O. P. Lawmakers threatening contempt when strzok refused to answer questions on the russia probe. We begin with chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge who was on all day. Good evening. Agent strzok testified that the hearing is another victory for the russian president others wanted who want to tear america apart. He also acknowledges Text Messages were used to attack the fbis integrity. The nothing but the truth so help you god. Fbi agent peter strzok syllabi President Trump as the poster child for clinical bias and today in a packed hearing, he broke his silence. After months of investigations, there simply no evidence of bias in my professional actions. Republicans in the house panel rejected strzoks claims of his 2016 text exchanged with then culligan and lumber, former fbi laura lisa page, or political opinions not antitrump sentiment affecting his work on the clinton email and russia investigation. Agent strzok has a most unusual and largely selfserving definition of bias. He thinks promising to protect the country from someone he hasnt even begun to investigate isnt bias. On the newly recovered augusd strzok discuss stopping trumka must bes strzok was driven by anger. My presumption based on that horrible, disgusting behavior that the American Population would not elect someone demonstrating that behavior. We will stop it, you are speaking on the behalf of American People . That text didnt suggest that i really of value would action to influence thats a fantastic answer to a question no one asked. In another text, strzok and page disparaged trump supporters. What does trump support smell like . It say expression of speech. I wasnt smiling one thing or whatever. I was struck by the extraordinary difference in the opinion and beliefs in the community there. You described it as smell. That was a quick choice of words. On his removal from the special council team by robert mueller. It was not my understanding that he kicked math because of any bias. That it was done based on the appearance. Democrats brought in placards trying former Trump Campaign aides prosecuted by the special counsel and use parliamentary tactics to run interference at one point signally out the former white house chief strategist. I am moved to subpoena steve bannon in our house intelligence investigation. He was under subpoena. He refused a number of times to answer questions. Democrats emphasized that strzok and others kept the russia investigation under wraps during 2016 campaign. If you unwanted to harm and interfere with the election of President Trump, you could have leaked information that the investigation was ongoing. But none of that came out. It got personal. I cant help but wonder when i see you looking there with a little smirk how many times did you look so innocent into your life size and lied to her about mr. Chairman, its outrageous. The fact that you would question whether or not that was the sort of loki would engage with and a Family Member who ive acknowledged hurting goes more into a discussion about your character and what you stand for and what is going inside you. Your credibility it is a new low in the United States congress. What a shame. Threatened with contempt, lisa page has agreed to a closeddoor deposition on friday. She will have the benefit of knowing strzoks testimony in advance. Shannon. Shannon Catherine Herridge all day on this. Thank you. During the hearing, embattled fbi agent peter strzok delivered a monologue on the integrity of the fbi while responding to accusations of the agency was biased against the president when he was a candidate. Many democrats reaction . A round of applause. The proposition that thats going on, that it might occur anywhere in the fbi deeply corrodes with the fbi is in american society, the effectiveness of their mission, and it is deeply destructive. [applause] mr. Chairman. Shannon fox news contributor, Senior Editor at the federalist Mollie Hemingway is here. It got downright raucous. I felt like i was watching parliament. It was very fun to watch. I dont know how much helpful information we got. It was interesting, this is the guy has been at the centerpiece of two major investigations, and all we know about him until now where these texts that he was trading with his also married lover and colleague. We had seen there is he a deep loathing for President Trump and his voters, calling the voters hillbillies im talking about impeachment and talk about how they would keep them from getting elected. This is our first look at actually who he is, and what we learned is those texts were an accurate reflection of who he is as a person. If anything, they mightve been a mild version of louises person. Today he talked, and he was very confident in himself, very sure of himself, sure of the righteousness of what he done. Did not show a lot of humility even though it cost all these problems for the russia investigation. Shannon he got a lot of applause, literally and figuratively, from the democrat democrats. Heres what the democrat from tennessee said. If i could give you a purple heart, i would. You deserve one. This has been an attack on you in a way to attack mr. Mueller and the investigation. Shannon a purple heart . Its a very offensive thing to have heard. Shannon two people who have earned and awarded or honored with the purple heart. Someone who deserves that versus someone who had a lot of political bias on the politically sensitive investigation. It gave an indication of what democrats will be doing. This is the first of many witnesses that will be doing testimony in front of these committees. They showed they will do a lot of obstruction, attempt to shut down the hearing, attempt to shut down oversight. There were a lot of interjections and objections. Whats interesting is its kind of part of what weve seen from the General Department of justice approach. Being asked questions about the russia investigation and how it started. The use of confidential informants. What was the use weve learned there were wiretaps on Trump Associates and surveillance on Trump Associates, that the dossier was secretly bought and paid for by Hillary Clinton and the dnc. Things that have come out over great objection from the department of justice and fbi. This hearing was, peter strzok kept saying over and over and over again hes not going to answer whats being asked of him. He said it was going to answer because the department of justice have told him not to. Everyone got us he whats been like for congress as they try to get information. Shannon another democrat said today on twitter this g. O. P. Controlled hearing into the investigation of Hillary Clintons emails is stupid. Having said that, peter strzok is a great witness who is obliterating Conspiracy Theory after Conspiracy Theory. They are claiming a win. The g. O. P. Is claiming a win. I think one thing is that there was great frustration and the refusal to answer any questions no matter how basic. The only real big thing that came out of this was confirmation from the fbi that bruce ohr had funneled information from fusion gps to the fbi. Bruce ohr is a department of justice official. His wife worked for fusion gps. Fusion gps was hired by the Democratic National committee and Hillary Clinton to do the whole russia operation. Now that we see that there was this fondling of information, its interesting and i think the will be more questions about whg started and how it got out of control. Whether protocols were followed. Its unprecedented to be wiretapping at opposing partys campaign and be doing this level of surveillance and we didnt really get any good interesting answers about why it started in the first place. Shannon i talked to one of the members today and he said the only reason they were so bold and so many things that were happening is that they never thought there was any chance trump would actually become the president and they never thought they would have to answer questions about it. Lisa page tomorrow behind closed doors at 1 30. We will report on whatever we can find out. More justice officials and other people will be coming. Shannon Mollie Hemingway, thanks for staying up late with us. President trump taking his roadshow to britain and getting things off to a typically controversial start with an incendiary interview. Kristin fisher has the latest developments. Good evening, kristin. Its because you know, things are already a little bit awkward between President Trump and Prime Minister may after he praised one of her rivals minutes before leaving on this trip to europe. But that was nothing compared to the interview he gave tonight to a paper in her own country and on the same night that she hosted the blacktie dinner in his honor. When british prime mr. Theresa may planned this lavish welcomes her money for President Trump and the first lady, these were likely not the headlines she was hoping for on the front page of the newspaper. President trump saying Boris Johnson would be a great Prime Minister and accusing her of wrecking brexit. I would have done it much differently. Actually told theresa may how to do it but she didnt agree. She didnt listen to me. President trump says he advocated for heartbreak from the European Union but instead Prime Minister may is pushing for a software exit strategy by attempting to get close ties to the e. U. If that happens, President Trump says in a unilateral trade deal with the u. K. Is likely dead. If they do a deal like that, it will most likely, because we will be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the u. K. So it will probably kill the deal. This story may have killed the mood inside blenheim palace. It broke where the president and Prime Minister inside eating dinner. The press wasnt allowed in but sky news said Prime Minister may was pressing her case for that very trade deal. There were tensions too outside blenheim palace. Antitrump protesters lining the streets, but thats nothing compared to the protest planned for tomorrow in london. To make me feel unwelcome. No reason for me to go to london. I used to love london as a city. I havent been there in a long time. I think your mayor has done a terrible job. But when they make you feel unwelcome, why would i stay there . After the story broke, the White House Press secretary put out a statement saying that the president likes and respect Prime Minister may very much. As he said in his interview with the sun, shes a very good person and he never said anything bad about her. We will see if she sees it that way tomorrow. The two will be having lunch tomorrow and President Trump is off to windsor to meet the queen. Shannon kristin, and so many of these reports from the meetings, we had a behind closed doors, including at nato, people were charmed by the president. Everything was great. It was the public statements that upset them. We will get more on that im sure as it wraps up. Could be a negotiating tactic. Shannon of course. We know the president before he landed in london, former British Ambassador to the u. S. Was attacked in a tube station. Thats a subway. What do you know about what hes doing . This was a brutal attack, and i want to warn you the picture you are about to see is pretty gory, but it was put out by his own wife. Sir Christopher Meyer is still recovering and expected to make a full recovery after he was badly beaten by two teenagers, 16yearold boy and a 15yearold girl. Initially there been some concern that this may have been politically motivated but police say that this was an attempted robbery and nothing more. Shannon he has been supportive of President Trump. There was that worried. Kristin fisher, thank you. In that interview, the president tearing into the london mayor, sadiq khan, for not standing up to terrorists. Attempting to rattle his british critics. Lets get reaction from retired fourstar general jack keane. How do you think this is going to go down with the president sitting facetoface with theresa may after this article that raised a lot of criticism of at least her policies if not her . Ive got to admit when he did his press conference in brussels right after the nato summit, i was a little bit surprised how uncharacteristically restrained he was talking about brexit. I suspect, though, that we got his true feelings. He was pro brexit before the vote for all the obvious reasons. I think the british peoples feelings about brexit had a lot to do with the american feelings about some of our policies in america. I suspect that this evening and tomorrow with the Prime Minister, some of this will be smoothed over a little bit. That is kind of a playbook of donald trump, as you mentioned in the introduction and i suspect there will be considerably more unity by the end of the day. Shannon the president continues to russia. We have a brandnew fox poll asking about how they feel . Should President Trump meet with russian president putin . 59 said he should. 33 say he shouldnt. Hes definitely winning as he moves forward to this meeting. But when asked in the same poll whether the president , how he is treating russia, 5 say to tough. 53 say not tough enough. 35 say about right. People want him to have this meeting but they dont think hes being tough enough on putin. Is an interesting phenomenon because the United States policies with russia are very tough in terms of sanctions and public statements, meddling in our election, ukraine, crimea. Intervention in syria. So those policies have been tough, but the rhetoric from the president , he rarely ever mentions putin if at all in a negative way. I think thats what the American People are reacting to. I suspect the reason for that is he wants to get in the room with putin. He wants to develop a relationship thats positive even though we have fundamental disagreements. President xi is a case in point. Maralago, positive, positive meeting leads to north korea change in policy. We dont know if they are going to follow through on that, but i think the president believes that that relationship has something to do with china putting the pressure on north korea. I think he wants to have a good relationship. He knows putin is a thug. He knows putin is trampling over u. S. Interests and those of our allies. But i do believe he thinks thats step one to dealing with some profound disagreements. This is a different president. He puts a lot of faith in relationships and the transactional nature of doing business with an adversary. He doesnt call him an adversary. I think they are an enemy, to be frank about it, in terms of their goals and objectives. They looked at us as a strategic opponent or enemy. He calls them a competitor. But i think that goes back to he doesnt want to prejudice his meeting with putin. He knows full well also that hes been briefed on it, that putin took advantage of our two previous president s, particularly barack obama who putin sized up early that he wanted to avoid confrontation. I think its going to be interesting to see what comes out of it. I suspect is going to say hes out of positive meeting. Shannon we will see. They have a lot of things to talk about north korea, syria, crimea and many other things. I think most folks hope there is a positive outcome but even in the white house and the president saying they dont excite any major announcements from that meeting. We will see. General, thank you for coming i in. Alexandria kosi of cortez is not in congress yet but shes fighting with the man she beat e primary, joe crowley, an older established democrats while trying to push the party into what some fear is a political nomansland. I do think that a lot of this legislation points to the america that we want to have and i think that there is a willingness to work on these issues and get closer to that point. Shannon will have that story and new fox poll out tonight on judge kavanaugh, mueller, and the midterms. There are some surprises and star Chris Stirewalt will be here. Talking about a pardon for jack johnson and clemency. The reopening of the investigation of a racially motivated murder. This is an utterly cynical, completely hypocritical political show. Arresting officer say they provided a verbal warning to move and have various items thrown at them before they had to deploy pepper spray and apparently heavy doses. On capitol hill, Kevin Mccarthy says hes planning to call the democrats fluffed by placing the abolish i. C. E. Bill on the house floor later this month. Democrats will have to vote on it. Looks like democrats will not be coming together in new yorks 14th congressional district. 28yearold selfdescribed socialist alexandria okay zero cortez is feuding with a longtime democratic lawmakers she ousted and launching a crusade against someone and she hasnt yet. Good evening, trace. After alexandria acadia cortezs victory, the two were cordial. Apparently that is over. The 28yearold is on twitter. Quoting joe crowley said he would support my candidacy. Instead he stood me up for all three scheduled calls. Hes mounting a thirdparty challenge against me and the Democratic Party. Crowley responded that hes not running for third party and that hes the one being stood up on the phone. Alexandria, the race is over and democrats need to come together. Ive made my support for you clear, and the fact that im not running. We scheduled phone calls and your team has not followed through. Then the working family party weighed in saying that crowley should remove himself from the ballot but apparently the only way to do that is to register to vote in a different state, committed a felony, or die. Crowley tweeted i dont plan on moving out of new york. Have a clean record. Hope gods will is that i dont die. Many House Democrats are angry that ocasiocortez is leveraging her newfound star power to help other insurgent candidates upset others to democrats. Democratic horseman Gregory Meeks said we are trying to take back the house but it seems they are just trying to go after democrats. It makes no sense. The National Political correspondent for the Washington Post called the ocasiocortez victory part of the Democratic Civil war, saying new York Governor Andrew Cuomo should be scared. Cuomo is facing a primary challenge from Actress Cynthia Nixon who is endorsed by ocasiocortez. The belief is that to fend off nixon, cuomo was moving left on almost every issue. Cynthia nixon has now declared, that like ocasiocortez, she is a democratic socialist. Shannon. Shannon trace, thank you. Lets talk about unrest inside the Democratic Party and some new fox news polls with fox News Politics editor Chris Stirewalt. Great to see you. That looked painful. Shards of a donkey. Shannon things happen. Politics is tough. Thats gonna be my new cologne. Shannon lets talk about how the democrats are feeling because there is an interesting piece, the headline is dems struggle with unity. Now that crowley is out of the mix, there is jostling. There are some things they havent resolved. Ocasiocortez is young, 28 is pretty young for politics. Shes not that experienced. The way she is conducting herself is not cool. She is not doing the right things which are you have an incumbent who you beat who was a raking person who had been a Congress Since 1998 and was being pretty gracious. Calling him out and taunting and doing that stuff on twitter is not what leaders do. Thats not how leaders generally conduct themselves. But it tells you that for these democratic socialists, there the same kind of people, the odd bunch that followed Mitch Mcconnell down the street with the video camera were proud democratic socialists. These folks, their tolerances gone so they refused to abide anything. They are not going to even say yes for an answer. Theyre just going to shout you down. The democrats, as these polls show, the democrats have a lot of energy. They have a lot of enthusiasm but it comes at a cost per shannon new fox news poll, how interested are you in the 2018 elections . Democrats extremely. Republicans 47 . Its similar. They have the edge. People who will get off the couch and go vote. Remember this. In the generic ballot test, democrats are up eight points and thats been pretty consistent. There are violent couple swings up and down but basically 7, 8, 9 points. The democrats, because of how the house is constructed, the democrats will need every bit of that to get to a majority. They will need all of it. When they only lead by three points, two or three points, its not going to get them ther there. They need, because of the way, the middle of the country is full of republicans, because of that, democrats to over perform. They need this intensity from people like ocasiocortez but not if its damaging. Republicans won the house in 2010 on energy like this. They had problems with the tea party. As Mitch Mcconnell observed, they didnt he said we didnt won the senate in 2010 or 2012 because we had weird candidates. They did. I am not a witch. She was not. It was a statement of fact. They had weird candidates, unnecessary division, and it cost them. How much will it cost democrats this time . Who knows. Shannon they need seats to make a change in the house. The senate is much, much closer and will break down the recent soon. Is interesting once and theres polling on where red state democrats are when it comes to voting for judge kavanaugh. We will break it down next time. Thank you. Gillian turner with some exclusive reporting next. What really happened behind closed doors at the just concluded nato summit on iran and those sanctions. Shannon about Everyone Wants special Counsel Robert Mueller to answer this question did the Trump Campaign in someway collude with the russians . Doug mckelway reports an answer doesnt appear to be forthcoming based on the evidence the mueller Team Presents and doesnt present in the trial of Paul Manafort. The former Trump Campaign manager and millionaire with a home in trump tower is now housed in solitary confinement in the Alexandria Detention Center outside washington. An extreme rarity for a whitecollar defendant yet to face trial. For many democrats, he remains the face of russian collusion. The soninlaw of our Russian Oligarch pleaded guilty to lying to special counsel and the fbi in november about his work for President Trumps Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort. Paul manafort change the g. O. P. Party platform at the 2016 convention in order to benefit russia. The nearly two year long investigation by special Counsel Robert Mueller has yet to turn up apparent evidence or leaks pointing to any Trump Campaign collusion. Recent Court Motions in advance of manaforts first trial later this month, his defense team asked mccourt to block mention of collusion because jurors in this democratic stronghold are likely to have strong views about President Trump. Muellers team agreed in its own filing. The government does not intend to present at trial evidence are meant concerning collusion with the russian government. Occlusion charge may still happen. The bank fraud and tax evasion counts center around loans he received between april 2016 and january 2017 which partly overlaps with his Trump Campaign job. A former federal prosecutor Andrew Mccarthy doubts any collusion charges coming. There has been no discovery event. Mueller would be accused of prejudicing manafort in the eyes of the jury without anything relevant. None of the five plea deals mueller has secured to date involve collusion. That could be a towel. What you do when you get a cooperator who has participated in a conspiracy, when hes the first one of the second one to come in and plead guilty and then you say oh, sure, yes there was a conspiracy with russia to commit espionage. I was in it. Heres what i did. Heres what President Trump did. Heres what Paul Manafort did. Thats what happens in a normal case. Its not have mixing in ts case. Muellers team has told trumps team that the president is not a suspect and is not under investigation. Shannon doug mckelway, thank you. Much to our nato allies chagrin, controversy sparked by President Trump kept them from making progress on a hot topic sanctions against iran. Gillian turner is here to explain. Good to have you with us. Great to be here. President trump had the Iran Nuclear Deal on his mind today, the final day of the nato summit. He believes the regimes about to reach a tipping point. I know they are having a lot of problems in their economy is collapsing. But i will tell you this. At a certain point, theyre going to call me and say lets make a deal. And will make a deal. Until then its clear tensions between the u. S. And iran are on the rise and in an exclusive statement of fox news, the white house called out the regimes support for terrorism. Militancy and Ballistic Missiles and says a global effort is needed to rein iran in and have it behave as a normal country. The nato summit is the first time many of the foreign leaders have seen the president since pulling out of the nuclear deal and its the last time we will see them before u. S. Snapback sanctions go into effect august 6. The date the Trump Administration is supposed to start penalizing countries who continue to do business in iran. Germany, france, britain signed onto the nuclear deal and will be subject to the socalled snapback sanctions. Insiders at the nato summit tell fox news the leaders of all three countries plan to raise the snapback sanctions with President Trump directly but missed out on their chance. Coming out of the summit, it talks about iran. Talked about the threat from iran but stayed away from all of this because of course there is no consensus. They hoped him in person pressure might persuade the president to waive or listen these sanctions, something the trump team is acutely aware of. We will enforce those sanctions. There will be a handful of countries who come to the United States and ask for relief. We will consider it. But make no mistake. We are determined to convince the iranian leadership that this malign behavior wont be rewarded. Since the european leaders missed their chance to talk to President Trump directly, insiders say they will have to rely on regular diplomatic channels to get their message across the pond. Sources say the Trump Administration still holds out hope that the u. S. Withdrawal will ultimately kill the nuclear deal. Sources say they believe this snapback sanctions will be so financially painful that the European Countries may eventually balk. They have three weeks to put the theory to the test. Shannon we will see. Gillian, thank you. When we return, the Justice Department reopens the emmet till case more than six decades after he was brutally murdered, and its already getting political. After a book came out with new information about the discussing murder of a black teenager in 1955, the Trump Administration decided its time to take another look. They are reopening the investigation into the brutal slaying of emmett till. His death shocked the world and helped sparked the Civil Rights Movement. The author of the book says he shared all his Research Materials with the fbi last year, including recordings of 2008 interviews with a white woman acknowledging she was not truthful in her original testimony decades ago. Nevertheless, hes got harsh words now for the Trump Administration. I find a deep irony and appalling hypocrisy that Jeff Sessions and donald trump would pretend to care about africanamerican children, about a black boy murdered in 1955. Shannon wants to talk about it with gianno caldwell. Great to have you with us. The author provoked enough information that this Justice Department says weve got some doubt and were going to dive into it again. He clearly doesnt trust they are going to do a good job with it. Yeah. You know what, mlk said something important, Martin Luther king, injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. This story is deep and personal to me because emmett till was from chicago and as a youth, ive got to be honest and transparent with our audience, as a youth, i was told about this story in one of the things that i was told and a number of other young men in the community i grew up in were told you have to be cautious with your interactions when it comes to white women and white people in general because you dont want to end up like emmett till. That is something that obviously we were taught years and years ago. It was something that was somewhat of an emotional scar because now you are inferior because you dont know what may happen. I think for a chapter like this, im appreciative of the Justice Department for shedding new light on this case and perhaps closing it and providing its final chapter. This is something i think will provide a bit more healing to a country that is still in some cases distraught by what happened when it comes to emmett till and other cases. Shannon the details of that case or just gut wrenching to anybody who is right about it, studied about it, or taking time to look at it. Justice has not been fully served. I think everybody would support that happening. There is some warning that this may not all be resolvable. A quote from the New York Times he says even with our best efforts, the Justice Department told congress this year, investigations into historic cases are exceptionally difficult and rarely will justice be reached inside a courtroom. They talk about witnesses who have passed away. The statute of limitations, different laws, different from what they were in the 50s. Is it worth taking a real run at trying to get this solved, even if they cant be sure they will get any resolution . Absolutely. This is one example of many cases that also deserve attention and healing. You think about this case sparking the Civil Rights Movement. I think it was great. You talk about what the Civil Rights Movement really did. We talk about jim crow. We talk about the civil rights bill, and we can really look and say that beyond this, the criminal Justice System has to be fixed. I think about what recently happened with President Trump pardoning Alice Johnson or jack johnson, the boxer. This is something i think is a step in the right direction and as you may be aware, theres over 3,000 people serving life sentences for nonviolent crimes. Over 50 of those people are africanamerican. We are talking about simple drug cases that many people wouldnt think you would ever get a life sentence over. It exists in america today. When we look at that, which i think is catastrophic to our american system of justice, we have to fix it. I think this is a really good step in the right direction, and President Trump, especially with the nfl players, he said recently about a month ago, let me so if you let me know if you have someone who deserves to be pardoned. We should come together and work with the administration and see how we can move the country forward by fixing that criminal Justice System which has been badly damaged over crimes like this years ago, injustice has i should say. Shannon its one of the few things we see a lot of bipartisan activity on here in washington, one of the very few things that gets headlines. We see the white house reaching out. Jared kushner because of what his father went through, being incarcerated, he stepped forward to say we have to talk about it. I hear from democrats and republicans all the time as they were really are trying to make progress on this idea of reforming the Justice System and looking at the sentences, and wouldnt it be great to have bipartisan work in a positive way . I met with senator chuck grassley, presented of goodlattn you have an administration saying send me what you have. Send me your thoughts and ideas you have the Democratic Party, not to make it political because it impacts all people of all political persuasions, but theyve got to get beyond this resistance narrative. How can you expect, and i have a problem with africanamerican leaders who wont come to the table when theres an opportunity to do so and say hey, President Trump, this is what we think.
