Welcome to fox news night. I am here in washington. Revelations about claims that the dnc reach an agreement, giving Hillary Clinton camp a certain pass to primary victory. We will dig into that momentarily, but first, it is coming as a man who won the presidency, donald trump, is in hawaii and the first leg theyll take them to asia. Well take you live to hawaii to hear from the president later in this hour. Before he left, by the way, mr. Trump had plenty to say about the ongoing russia probe in the future of attorney general, jeff sessions. Ed henry on the top story. Now operating on three major fronts. Good morning, ed. The end of the week in which Mainstream Media turning it into a full scale crisis, when in fact, ive spoken to other advisors with the special counsel probe winding down without targeting the present. Im told that is what the president did not attack Robert Mueller at all in a series of tweets and comments to reporters today. They do not want to poke at the bear. Instead, one more time, the president is turning his fire on his own attorney general, jeff sessions. Hot water again after carter page testified to the House Intelligence Panel that he told sessions about attribute took and the 2016 campaign. The president is trying to prod him into investigating democrats overseers of new departments using questions about collusion on the other side. A new book by Donna Brazile revealing the dnc concluded . Colluded. Although nobody covered it last night present tweening, the primary, one of the biggest political stories and years guide zero coverage on fake news tv. Disgraceful. Meanwhile, they have new documents showing Andrew Mccabe did not recuse himself from that clinton email probe until a week before the election. That means, he was investigating clinton earlier than 2016 and throughout 2015 when him and his wife were running in virginia, and yes giving Campaign Money from clinton intimates. All this leading him to press sessions to dig deeper on uranium 11 surprise, we heard nancy pelosi say, there is to see here. I am very frustrated. Look at what is happening with the Justice Department peered why are they not going after Hillary Clinton with her emails and the dossier. You look at the new book out put out by Donna Brazile, where she basically told the dnc and stole the election from bernie. I was not involved Going Forward. This is about the future. Dianne feinstein was quick to charge the president , pressured his attorney general as being inappropriate saying, we cannot allow ourselves to become numb to the president calling on independent lawenforcement. A fair critique those echoed by bob corker today. It is fairly interesting that nancy pelosi are no saint, know when it comes to Donna Brazile, they do not want to relitigate the 2016 investigation when they have been doing that and russia for several months. Shannon ed henry with the very latest. Join now for the daily, and fox news contributor, Richard Fowle fowler. Good to be in here. Spent thank you for joining us on friday night. You heard ed say, let Mainstream Media outlets did not talk about the story, and it seems like a narrative today. They have gotten a copy of this agreement that Donna Brazile references, and they seem to say, if you put in context, is not that big of a deal. Heres what the president told Laura Ingraham last night about how she views it. It is a major strike. I dont know if mainstream, fake media abuser. I dont know if theyll pick it up. That is a big story, what you are saying. It is illegal, number one, it is unfair to bernie sanders. Shannon richard, should democrats feel in some way that they did not get the full story or was not a fair primary . No question that democrats are upset with the party, and thats why you see the party still dealing with the remnants of it. Yet the keith ellison, tom present fight. I think we saw a couple weeks ago when the Democratic Party internal election, there was grumbling there between bernie camp and a hillary camp. Heres the distinction. Every party has these camping agreements. It is because our election laws are archaic if you look at them, two decades ago, and they allow the party and candidates to have more money so a lot of candidates and campaigns take on agreements, both democrats and republicans. Shannon what Donna Brazile said that was different, it was so early, i primary deal. No question. No question that it shows that the hillary people were boxing out the Bernie Campaign and other potential candidates for possibly joe biden. I dont think that it is criminal. It is bad party politics. People not playing nice in the sandbox, but i dont think there is a criminal element to it. Shannon fence, what you make of it . Yes, others have said, these are contracts and they are not unusual. In context, is now a you think. My favorite element as it was rushing to defend Hillary Clinton. She needs to be protected, they need to explain this. Here, you have Donna Brazile she was the acting head of the dnc. She was involved with the dnc for a long time. She sought answers by the way, she was out there for hillary. She represented hillary many times. I worked hard for her. Exactly, she gave her questions during the debate. Shannon is not like she was not prohillary. She worked overtime for hillary. Even the most Hillary Clinton advocate, ask questions and says, oh, my god, this is a corrupt process and now i have to break the old man shannon when you think we saw an rnc document that President Trump was signed it two years ago before the primary started, say, i will control everything that you do and help you raise money, but i will direct everything it has to go through me. I have to hire people. You think abc, cbs, cnn would have done anything . You wouldve seen the same coverage shannon whoa. I dont think they wonder what appeared i think this agreement as to why Hillary Clinton loss election. While she mightve had the party she did not have the individual voters. She did not have the American People, and that she loss election. As much as she wants to say, the russians are the reason she lost, and all the other reasons. She did not have the people. The russians engage and involve an election connect yes. Well get to the bottom of it. And Robert Mueller will get to the bottom. An election, connect yes. This is mine, i am the one whom supposed to get a pair now is my time, and ill do Everything Possible to get it including rigging the process. Its beyond what you make of it and nancy pelosi . She does not want anything to do with it. Shes looking to the future. How does it make you feel that nancy pelosi could be the future of the Democratic Party . I think that is going to be a stretch for the Democratic Party. It is not interesting having an old white woman represent them. Like a party, they are moving away from that. It does not work for them. The most amazing thing that i thought i listen to nancy pelosi talk, i do not want to relitigate the press pass, im looking to the future. I want to assess what is happening to the future. You need a dnc thats playing fair with all the candidates, and she, as one of the leaders of the party right now, the clearest leaders, should have that at her utmost concern. Whether or not the dnc has truly Fair Elections for the candidates. Shannon all parties should be concerned. Richard and vince, stick around. Meanwhile, President Trump is arriving in hawaii. He did that a short time ago. He will head out to lay a wreath. Theyll be a ceremony at the uss arizona peer were taking you there live, it will take you there live as soon as the president begins that event. You had two asian countries, japan, south korea, china, the philippines, and vietnam. The focus tonight on pyongyangs with new sanctions against the regime, calling them genocidal and brutal. Is that evidence that President Trumps effort and the worlds efforts are working . Let us talk about it with john bolton, and the the dash domand to see both tonight. Hopefully you can hear me all right. We know north korea is going to be top of the visits with all asian leaders. Meanwhile, with that as a backdrop, we are we introduce a bill that would tie the hands with what he can do in respect to north korea, john, your estimation, is a constitutional . No, i think this bill will be unconstitutional. As you know, the constitution makes the president , the commander in chief of the armed forces. He can choose what weapons can be used to protect the security of the United States. Foreign policy interest, congress has never tried to pass any law on republican or democratic president to prevent him from using weapons to protect the country. I think it would be be flatly unconstitutional. I think it shows how desperate, i am afraid, people in congress to take advantage of this very serious imminent threat from north korea and score political points off of it of it. Shannon ambassador coming one of the sponsors of the major said, we need to take the president seriously when he threatens war, because that could break at any moment. Republican and democrat expenditures are alarmed over the path, which is partly joined forces to reclaim Congress Role in matters of war and peace before theres no turning back. What you make of that . Well, i dont think he understands the constitution. As john said, that is not congress function. It is to respond and to declare that a state of war exists, but take pearl harbor since the president is about to go there. The japanese attack in 1941 and Congress Declared war on december the eighth. When did the war begin . It began on december the seventh. The fact, the real Constitutional Authority is the president as commander in chief. There is nothing in the constitution that says, the president has to wait for the United States to be attacked. Theres nothing in the constitution that says, he cannot act until congress does, and a deed to fulfill his response abilities, he is fully empowered constitutionally to act in defense, and i think these measures we have seen congress try to get involved so may times in the past come. They passed the war of powers act after watergate. A complete charade, and so is this. Complete partisan politics. Shannon do think we have been tough with china when it comes to dealing with north korea, john yoo . They have slightly different interests than we do, but at the end of the day, getting this regime under control with the Nuclear Program should be something that benefits both. It should come up but china has been jiving the United States for 25 years. They said repeatedly, they do not want north korea to have Nuclear Weapons, but they have not followed through on really unique capability to force north korea to that end up the sanctions temporarily, and when the u. S. Turns its eyes away, it is back to business as usual. Thats frankly why this trip to north korea south korea is so important. They are on the verge of getting a deliverable capability to hit us with thermal Nuclear Weapons anywhere and the continental United States, and it is time for china to tell us whether they are serious about this or not. Otherwise, the president is going to have to look unilaterally to protect the american civilian population. Shannon today, we have a decision in regards to Bowe Bergdahl, and he is not going to jail. John, i do think it is appropriate . No as you may know, the prosecutors and the case recommended 14 years desirable discharge, and rank to private. And the judge gave him no time and dishonorable discharge for this is a person who pled guilty to deserting his fellow men and women in uniform on a battlefield faced by hostile enemies. I am afraid that this is one of those cases that calls for a very strong measures of justice, because men and women in the field on the young men and women in the field have to be able to depend on their fellow brothers and sisters next to them, and they cannot be worrying and the back of the mind that someone will wander off base and dessert. Also you take into account that our military expended a great deal of time and took casualties trying to find him, because they assumed that Bowe Bergdahl had been kidnapped rather than deserted. Shannon and we heard from families and men whose lives were changed forever because they were out there searching for him and suffered grave harm in the process. The president tweeted today, the decision on Bowe Bergdahl is a disgrace to our country and military. Investor, final were to you that is exactly right. This is a stain on the military justice system. Bowe bergdahl pled guilty. There is no mitigating circumstances. Theres no reason to give precisely the sentence of the prosecution recommended. I think the prosecution came in too low. I think this will cast a real shed over the military forces. To see this person effectively walk away. Shannon ambassador and john yoo, great to see both of you tonight. Thank you. Of elements in a case we have been tracking here on fox news. A teenage here illegally and her fight to get an abortion with the federal governments help. Her Legal Counsel misled the government to give her an Early Morning abortion on the day that the attorney plan to have a final appeal with the u. S. Supreme court. The government is asking the Supreme Court to not throw out the Lower Court Decision allowing her to get an abortion, but also punish her legal team. Opponents of the Lower Court Decision say, they worry now it will encourage minors to cross into that u. S. Illegally, solely for the purpose of getting an abortion, which is often illegal in their home country. A suspect in the benghazi attack, the 46 rolled militant was recently captured by Operations Forces in libya. According to the criminal complaint, he played a role in the deadly terrorist attack that killed the u. S. Ambassador and three other americans. The judge ordered the suspect be held without bond height of a hearing next week. He is a second benghazi suspect taken into u. S. Custody. Next, harvey gates followed. New allegations sweeping who are pointing fingers at everyone else, not so long though. Details coming up, plus, we take you live to the president at the uss arizona memorial. When that happens, stick around. Shannon we are standing by to take you live to hawaii, where the president will be laying a wreath at the uss arizona and historic moment for him and our country as he goes there to observe the lives of so many lost on that tragic day. Well take you may keep an eye, and we will go there. That should happen within minutes. Stay with us. In the meantime, allegations of Sexual Harassment against worse against as it piles up. Some of your elected leaders are being caught up in the controversy. Peter doocy joins us to lay out the key players and was going on. Peter . People think of the house floor floor where the process begins so a bill becomes a loft, but now there is reason to think of it as a place for members of Congress Come on to other members of congress, because a current member who remains unnamed tonight is being accused of making an inappropriate advance towards former congresswoman mary bono, who told the ap, she had an exchange like this with a former colleague. Instead of being hows the weather, how the career, it was, i thought about you while i was in the shower. It was a matter of saying to him, that is not cool. That is just not cool. Bono said, his behavior stops, and she has not been in congress for five years, but five hours ago, the speaker of the house, paul ryan, sent a memo out to all lawmakers and their staff, suggesting that they take advantage of Sexual Harassment training, which is not mandatory for congressional offices. He writes this, every day, we serve the American People and be worthy of the confidence they place in oz. In recent weeks, reports of Sexual Harassment by public figures have been disturbing to say the least. Ive heard from members about real concerns about the policies. Shannon thank you so much, peter well take you live to hawaii, where the president stops at the uss arizona. He will be there before he goes on to a much longer trip all through asia. He will stop in china, vietnam vietnam, japan, and numerous other countries where you will have important discussions with top officials, primarily about north korea. We believe theyll be at the top of the list. He is determined to rally. Of course, they have even much more pressing concerns, because they are there on the border with the rogue regime. The present dives into serious work there, but first, very serious and somber replay, martha, looks like his boat is getting to the location, where we will see him live. Shannon, good evening to you. We have been watching as some of the secret Service Boats come in, coast guard vessels come in. Obviously, deadlocked on this entire area. We are on the dock near the uss missouri, which is where this document of surrender was signed by the japanese, and it is right across that the uss arizona, where the war bega began. In that morning of december 7, 1941, 353 japanese planes swept in low, 30 feet off the water, and began bombing and attacking ships were all lined up in battleship row cult right behind us. It is a very somber event to witness and to visit the uss arizona. It is a grave site, a tomb, and a memorial all in one. The president will become the most recent president to do those visit. It has been done by every president since jfk. It was finished in 1962 as a memorial. He visited in 1963 before his assassination. This is a big moment. President trump said shortly a short time ago when he was at the pay, briefing, he had never made this visit before. He had never been out to a memorial, and he was looking forward to it. Clearly it will be one of those moments when he reflects on the impact of war, and points of the decisions made as the president , shannon. Shannon certainly as the commanderinchief, having to make decisions made that impact of young men and women, who voluntarily sign up to do that with the knowledge that they are essentially, potentially lay down their lives for our country. It seems to be one of the roles, martha, that the present rush is the. Also understanding the burden that hes got, the families that are involved, and being able to work with the military. Quite a bit of leeway and autonomy and authority to carry out some of these very difficult decisions. I understand the first lady will be with him today, and we will see them to pay their respects there, martha. So true, shannon. As you pointed out, he surrounded himself with a lot of members of the military. General kelly is on this trip with him. He may be on this boat as well. Were not sure, but we know the first lady is on the boat, and also admiral harris, who is the admiral in charge of coming they spent the afternoon together. Theyll be a recessional at the admirals home after the wreath laying ceremony. As you pointed out, theres a very good reason that president s stop here first as they had to the region, as they head to china, head to south korea, heads to japan. It is the gateway of the transition between the United States and asia. As he crosses that water, he enters an area, where you have this triangle between hawaii, alaska, and guam that is the forward tip of the spear looking towards that region. As we know, the spears had been raised quite a bit lately, and it is a time of tension between our countries, and this will give him the grounding space to be in as he looks at all these things very seriously paired the ramifications of war, the loss, the tragic losses of world war ii. Obviously, these are decisions that need to be entered into very seriously, and the president has showed as you said, he has tremendous respect for the military, and admires the history of the military and also their advice when it comes to these things. General mattis, secretary of defense, is someone he has given a lot of latitude to. As we watch this, it is about to arrive near the dock, hes about to have an interesting experience, thousands of americans have every year, shannon, when they visit the uss arizona. Shannon and as you said, it is such a way to set the table for the trip looking at the past, and the importance of being able to avoid conflict, stave off attacks and to look to protect the u. S. Homeland. He is a very heavy burden, and heavy job Going Forward as we have done repeatedly with you and security sanctions and other ramped up tools and trying to calm the situation in north korea. This has to give him a pause in visiting this memorial and no the job he has looking that it doesnt happen again. No doubt, shannon. He is also john by martinez , who was at the pearl harbor museum, which is extraordinary place that documents everything that happened on december 7, 1941. It brought us into world war ii. He is there, admiral harris is there, he is the first person in charge. That the president would turn to to look at what theyre looking at and seeing around them. Once they do disembark and go on to the arizona, it is a very striking moment, and the descriptions of what happened that morning to the arizona, and obviously, it was a sunday morning pit the sailors and marines on board, dad woken up. It was a relaxed time for them over the course of the weekend, and the night before, they had had this big battle of the bands. The arizona band played in that battle of the bands. As a big dancer. They were up for the evening. No doubt had a great time. They went back to the arizona that night, the ships that are here in the harbor, and went to bed. It was six in the morning, 6 30 in the morning. You wake up and get ready for the day, they play the starspangled banner , having their breakfast, when all of a sudden, they started to hear tremendous roar in the sky. 353 planes coming off of aircraft carriers in the pacific and hurling towards pearl harbor and towards the site. No doubt, that moment of absolute shock. They had trained for this moment, although they never thought the japanese would do this, that they would attack pearl harbor. There are other places that were closer to japan, that had u. S. Interest that they thought was much more likely site for this attack, but the japanese had done this before in world war i and russia. Had a different outcome. They attacked the naval base and that caused a backing down. Theres a lot of thought by historians that that is what they thought would happen here. They attacked pearl harbor, there would be a backing down, and it did the absolute opposite. The United States rose in a united way. Tremendous amount of debate in the country whether or not we should enter world war ii, and there was many people that you think about how divided the country is now, there is division on whether or not we should be involved, and after that day, of course, that was over. And Franklin Delano roosevelt declared asked congress to declare war that day. And signed the documents to do so. He gave a speech that this day will live in infamy. And we saw that speech in the museum, and originally he wrote, this date will live in history, and he took his pen and cross it out and vote, infamy. A much stronger word, in a beacon of what is to come. It altered the course of modern history, and the future of our country and the beginning on the loss of thousands and thousands of lives. Millions if you take into account everything in germany and russia as well. It is one that no doubt he is hearing about at this moment as he gets ready to see the grave sites of 1177 young men, 18, 19, 20, 21 his old off to breakfast come off to start the day, in hopes of defending their country for many years to come, and they lie at the bottom of this bay. It is a very moving moment, shannon. Shannon he had talked about the fact that he studied pearl harbor, read about it, but he had never been there. As humans, the first trip for him, how excited he was to see this place for roughly 1100 sailors and marines of the uss arizona. He had a warm welcome there when he arrived, even if he looks forward as a mentor, general kelly, the white house chief of staff, you understand, theres a lot of love for him. He was yelling, we love you general kelly. Very pleasant and warm welcome. Him and the first lady, and he was giving high fives and autographs as well. In a different feeling is a towards this Historic Place that has such a place in the hearts of all americans. Who could never and the millions of lives lost, and it all started here with these young men and women who are caught off guard as you said, more than 300 japanese aircraft that fled to pearl harbor, and so may describe the shock of that day and now, the president will be there at the place he studied and read about, and look forward to visiting is the commanderinchief, the president along with the first lady. Shannon, if you look at the back of the boat, ebr seen it very close. An absolutely beautiful site. The sun starts to set here in honolulu, but the president and the first lady on the back of that beautiful, beautiful boat. American flag waving above, and obviously, it is a beautiful vessel for the special occasion that has been brought out to carry them out, and you know all day today, there are thousands of people, hundreds of people going back and forth being ferried out to the uss arizona, and a lot of people saved their money made a special date in the calendar for this trip and it means a lot to them. They will not stop and sending the fairies out today. You can clearly see the president and first lady on the back of that vessel and the sailors aboard, who are bringing them to this moment, and i would say they are one minute or more away from the dock that we visited yesterday. When you get inside, obviously, there is a large wall that has all of the names that you will that he will see of all the men who gave their lives on the uss arizona. Also a smaller area that is specifically set aside and has the names etched into it of the 44 men who were aboard the ship but survived, and then later, one man, one of them who survived, left in his well that he wanted to be cremated and his urn to be placed inside the shi ship, that request was honored. That request was then opened up to all of the other 44 survivors. There are five remaining survivors of the uss arizona. They all had the opportunity to do the same thing. In fact, one of them will have the urn of his ashes brought down below, a navy diver will take a blow during a very special ceremony that the navy does for the family, and he will carry the urn across the water and bring it back down into the ship. In the way the diver describes it, when he does that, he can feel the pull of the ship when he releases it from his hand, pulling that loved one, that member of the arizona ship back into its home, and the men who will have that done on december 5th, his brother rests at the bottom of this water as well. He will be rejoining his brother. 38 pairs of brothers worked on the uss arizona. A special group of people, and we will be learning about all that and etched into marble there. Theres also a spot, were all president s stand, and he will watch and looked down into the spot, which really, you can see the ship down in the water. It is all still there underneath the water, he will stop in that spot as well. It is right near the wreath laying ceremony. What a beautiful night. Shannon looks like a gorgeous day from what we can see. Again, folks watching live as the president and first lady are in hawaii. They are getting ready to visit and do a wreath laying at the uss arizona, where he talked about more than a thousand u. S. Sailors and marines lost their lives for the ship is still there, and he will get a chance to see it firsthand. Martha, you had a chance to visit and check things out while youre recovering last couple of days. What has been the mood about those anticipating this visit by the president . A lot of enthusiasm, shannon. They left to show this place off. The people who take care of it are topnotch, and every one of them has a deep understanding and history of the place, and are so glad that people come here to pay their respects. They also are very determined that it is a place it is a resting place. It is not somewhere that people are whipping their cell phones out and taking crazy pictures. It is a very solemn place, and they are very insistent on keeping that pure, and keeping that sacred. It is for the people who are entombed underneath. There is no doubt, the president is going to feel that you melody as he walks out. He is just he is still getting ready to get off the boat. I get is a very solemn environment, and the people very enthusiastic about the president coming. Obviously, theres a lot of concerns in hawaii, because of the things we talked about. The threats posed by north korea. Once again, we do want people to panic, but people are concerned and we do want to understand. Theyve had to happen here before. It is up environment, that is ready. Shannon is a continue forward, we can see a little bit in the corner of one of the final shots there. There is heavy security presence there. Guarding over this special visit today. Not always the easiest thing to do in the waters, but they are patrolling and making sure this couple is a carry out this moment. As you see, the bridge is closed up. It is where the admirals come enlisted men live, and some of the higherups head home. That is a very special place as well. That bridge is shut down, and you can see as you point out, shannon, the coast guard between where we are in the present, which is not a far distance at all, they are very seriously patrolling the area. Obviously, it is a highsecurity event. Shannon and we watch as they go inside. Just to mention, president bush 41 gave a speech at the 50th anniversary of pearl harbor. He said, i have no rancor in my heart for japan or germany. The world is over. We won. That was a very significant moment. The moment that turned this from what everyone here called a memorial to also a memorial to peace, because there had been so many after that moment, it released everyone from any residual anger against the japanese war against germany. The war was over, it was time to move on. That is Something Else that you really feel here. There are many japanese visitors who come. There are many visitors also reconciliation visits of people from japan who want to come togd to recognize that we do not want ever want to have this happen again. The young men defending their country, fighting as warriors print their doing what they were told. It is a very stark reminder of all of the loss, frankly. It is a lesson in history, really, for all of us. You have president obama, who visited with Prime Minister abe, which was a big moment of reconciliation. It is where you want to be. It is where you want to come to understand in terms of the end of these events, and this part of our history. It is difficult and devastating. Shannon it is interesting, you mention the comments by president bush 41, amazing even more so when you think about that he was shot in service in this country. He knows the rigors of war and what many of these families would have experienced. As you mentioned, president obama with the Prime Minister as well. Now we see the president and first lady. Spielman again, it does not take long for that very special, somber moment. Or it. President and first lady to participate in the wreath laying there at the uss arizona. It is a beautiful night. And our Martha Maccallum is there covering this portion of the trip as he gets ready to head to age as well. Short moment, martha, but very significant. You can see when he was standing. I dont know if people notice to the left, that was the area where the mobile they have their names there. Watch. Shannon in our thanks to Martha Maccallum, who is there on the ground in hawaii helping us covered this portion of the visit. Right now, the uss arizona. Continues on a tour. Talk about how much you look forward to being able to see this with his own eyes and to experience it, having laid a wreath there. Him in the first lady are getting a good look at the wreckage of the uss arizona, which is there. Lets bring back our panel, Vince Coglianese and Richard Fowler. Many days in meetings for the president moon forward on the agent trip your defense, what does he need to accomplish and to be considered a win . If you can figure out a way to convince china north kore north korea. All the interviews he gave and lead ups to this, trade continues to be a concern, but primarily north korea. Especially today, they release a statement, that they are concerned theres a crisis, and that is a suggestion that the sanctions are working. He has gotten a lot of these countries to join at the table at the united nations, and i think he will hammer on the point and get more help. Shannon richard . I think north korea will be the top priority. I think we are seeing posture from north korea today, beyond a statement. We also saw more conjecture with appearance of the north korean first lady, which is ideal shifting of the imagery of north korea up from the war country to more of she supposed to represent the peacefulness of the regime and humanitarian side, and there showing as the president makes his way to asia. They bring in china, how he wants to deal with north korea. Will there be a hardline stance, or is diplomacy going to be part of the play . The other part difficult part will be how he will deal with china. China will be a big player here, and china as well as south korea at once diplomacy to be part of the conversation, and the president has to have a harder line. That will stringing that the needle will be critical as the next 12 days. Shannon always significant when you have a u. S. President going to china and to meet with chinese leaders about these very difficult conversations. Panel, thank you very much. You have been watching live as the president is in hawaii visiting pearl harbor. He laid a wreath there, and him and the first lady will continue on on the very important asia trip. Trip. Shannon in five years since martha and lou produce 95 theses sparking the reformation, becoming a cornerstone of world history. Luther was an upstart who change the world, and hes a lot like our current president. Dreaming, author of the brandnew book, Martin Luther, the man who rediscovered god and change the world. Eric, good to see you. It is a fascinating book. It has been a busy week. I will get through it. Theres so many myths and legends about Martin Luther that are not true. Yes, all the myths and legends are not true by definition. You knew that. I have to tell you, when i wrote the book, i knew nothing about this figure. Hes one of the most fascinating figures in history, and i argue in the book, he was the most influential figure in history in the last 2,000 years apart from jesus. That sounds like hyperbole, but what resulted from what he did 500 years ago, it is stunning, absolutely stunning, and im happy to say he is a very entertaining figure. Very funny. That makes a lot more fun for me to write, and a hope for people to read as well. Shannon its an important book and interesting. You tackle really heavy topics and historic, dusty figures, people think and you learn a lot and enjoy yourself in the process. It is interesting, because you and i have talked about this president long before he was even a nominee. You had a lot of opinions. You saw something in him that you know say is a lot like Martin Luther, it is hilarious. Im sure theres people watching and choking on their food if they are snacking to hear me compare Martin Luther to donald trump. It is undeniable. Lets hate anybody who reads this book, the thought will flicker through your mind. They sound familiar. The reason for that, basically, he did something that no one had done at the time. He had this ability to connect with the common man. Nobody was able to do that in his day. The Common People in germany and europe understood that there was tremendous corruption in the church, tremendous corruption with the leaders, and nobody was able to do anything about it. Anytime someone tried, they would get swatted down effectively. Luther came of age when this new thing called the Printing Press had been invented. He was able to do a run around the Mainstream Media of the day. He was able to speak directly to the people, and it lit them on fire. They thought, finally somebody understands what were thinking about. Somebody knows what we are thinking about, and some may try to do something. He became an incredible hero of the disenfranchised masses, as it were, and for the first time in many, many centuries in history. If ever. The people found someone who spoke for them and they began to have a voice. It is amazing thing, because we think it is normal, it is the modern world. Really, it was Martin Luther who opened the door to what i think about is the future. Everything we take for granted, freedom, american fetal with all of these things were not conceivable unless luther did what he did. It is a huge anniversary, and he is an entertaining figure in a way that trump is. Outspoken, but i actually say is he makes President Trump look like mike pence. In other words, yeah, he would do more than tweet late at night. It is amazing. Shannon sometimes we get embolden when that happens. He is a controversial figure. A lot of people who are not fans of him. Have you had pushback on the book . Quick answer. I have to say, honestly, most of what people have heard, are either not true or mostly not true. There are a lot of legends and things, and one thing i like to do in the book is figure out, what exactly can we know. There are many things. For example, we celebrate 500 anniversary of him nailing the 95 theses. He probably did not do it the way you remember. He did not do on the exact date. Lots of things like that. That thinks he said about the were incredibly unfortunate, and i deal with that as well. Yet the deal with the good in the bad, obviously. Shannon thats all we have to deal with our current leaders. None of us are unflawed. Maybe you, but if you get to know me, shannon, you can ask my wife. Shannon tell her i said hi hi. Metaxas with the new book. You have to carve out time to read it, but it is worth the effort. Eric, thank you for joining us.
