Tonight, the Justice Department has opened up the courthouse in portland to embedded reporters, we will take you inside to see for yourself what is going on. Thats coming up. Hello and welcome to fox news night, im Shannon Bream in washington. Correspondent Rick Leventhal joins us now with some breaking news from portland, good evening, rick. Good evening, shannon, the mayor of portland, ted wheeler, taken to twitter, demanding immediate meetings with harp elected acting dhs secretary chad wolf to discuss a ceasefire and the removal of federal forces from that city. Of course 11 days ago secretary wolf was there and offered to meet with city leaders, who declined. A 60th consecutive night of violence and chaos on the streets of portland, oregon, with the feds sending reinforcement to help protect the courthouse from a mob of roughly 1,000 people, shooting fireworks, starting fires, and knocking down fencing. Some of the clou crowd using shs and numberless to hide efforts to cut through the barricades. An Associated Press reporter inside the building says agents and officers were injured trying to dodge canned food and ball bearings fired from slingshots. One was doused with orange paint and some may be permanently blinded after protesters hit them in the eyes with laser pointers. 75 world war veteran mike cole was there before things got heated. I wanted to look at those federal guys, whatever they are, cops, or agents, whatever they were, and say, hey, man, sergeant cole, United States air force, vietnam veteran and thank you for being here and doing your duty, but im so sorry youve got the worst duty in the whole world and i think you know it. Business owners in Downtown Portland say the chaos is deeply cut revenue. Even regular customers are staying away because of ongoing protests and a dramatic spike in homelessness. Seattle shops also suffering after many boarded up. The message were getting from our customers as we have to protect our business because its not being protected by others. Violent protests continue in seattle where dozens of Police Officers were injured this weekend battling violent demonstrators throwing rocks, bottles, pieces of wood, and explosives. Photos show some of the injuries officers say were caused by radicals in the crowd. Authorities releasing body cam footage showing some of the attacks, close to 50 people were arrested for assault, obstruction and failure to disperse. Oakland also saw a peaceful protester turned criminal when agitators in the crowd of 700 smashed windows, spraypainted graffiti, set fire to a courthouse, vandalized a Police Station and pointed lasers and shot fireworks at cops. Meanwhile, the United Nations is getting involved. Warning authorities in the u. S. Against the disproportionate use of force on protesters and journalists tonight, shannon. Shannon well, you know how those u. N. Warnings go over with u. S. Lawmakers. Thank you very much, rick. Sure. Shannon okay, congress is debating how to get people back to work while the g. O. P. Is also prioritizing protecting businesses from covidrelated losses. Business groups from leisure to retail are praising the republican efforts while democrats accuse them of caring more about Corporate America than american citizens. Outside the halls of power there are also signs of tension over official lockdowns. The owners of attilas gym, new jersey, have made headlines for weeks over the decision to reopen despite mandated shutdowns. This morning, they were arrested. Tonight they say they dont regret the arrest, only that theyre having to go to these lengths so they can feed their families. Correspondent rich edson has more from the white house on what policymakers are doing to get the economy back on track. Hey, rich. Good evening, shannon. Republicans have unveiled their latest coronavirus plan. Their opening offer to democra democrats, Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell says it represents a bold framework to address the economic consequences of the coronavirus. We need our democratic colleagues to reprise their part as well. They need to put aside the partisan stonewalling. We saw a police reform. In the bill, center or republicans offer americans another round of direct payments of up to 1200 depending on income with a 600 boost to Unemployment Benefits now expiring, republicans want to cap unemployment payments that about 70 of normal pay. Administration Officials Say they want to prevent people from making more money on unemployment than working. Democrats want to keep the 600 boost and warn state governments are unprepared to administer targeted unemployment checks. Democrats also oppose a republican provision temporarily granting businesses, schools, and organizations, Legal Protections if those exposed to the coronavirus sue them. This is an emergency. Maybe they dont understand. Of President Trump is back at the white house after an afternoon tour biotechnology chairman North Carolina. Their handouts 262 million government contract to expand its vaccine manufacturing capacity. The president says if ongoing vaccine trials are successful, local governments can further open their economies. Hell go right back into that be and i think youre probably in the v anyway. I really do believe a lot of the governors should be opening up states that they are not openi opening. Covid19 is surging across the u. S. With more than 127,000 deaths and reported cases approaching 4. 3 million. One of those cases is the National Security advisor, robert obrien. The white house says he has mild symptoms, is working at a secure location offsite and i said no risk of exposure to the president or the Vice President. Shannon. Shannon all right, rich edson from the white house, thank you. New tonight, federal investigators arresting a miami man accused of fraudulently obtaining and misusing funds from the paycheck protection program. Prosecutors say 29yearold david hines used some of the money from the program from which you know was intended to help Small Businesses survive the pandemic, to buy himself a 300,000 lamborghini. Just hours from now attorney general bill barr is set to testify on capitol hill. Democrats tell fox news they plan to grill him on everything from that crackdown on protesters outside the white house to why the feds are getting involved in local protests and even the Mueller Report. Republicans jim jordan from ohio, good to have you with us, congressman. Good to be with you. Shannon bloomberg puts it this way, under the headline, barrs loyalty to trump they said theyre going to talk about how hes using doj to protect the president that all these other issues that we mention. They say barr will walk into a virtual Firing Chamber when he sits down for hours of testimony in front of a democraticled committee. That may not even had enough time to grill him on all the issues they want to address. Youll be there tomorrow, how do you see this going down . Bill barrs commitment is to the rule of law in defending the constitution. The democrats have been out to get him. Ever since a year ago. A year ago in april, shannon when he used the word spying in a hearing in front of the United States senate. Ever since he called it what it was, the Obamabiden Administration, trying to make spying on the trump campaign, we now know thats exactly what they did. Willing and had the courage to tell the truth, theyve been up to get them. So much so that they just filed articles of impeachment against him three weeks ago. So bill barr is trying to clean up the politics from the previous at administration, from the Obamabiden Administration were for political reasons they went up to the front campaign. Hes trying to clean that up, adhere to the rule of law and for that is getting attacked by these democrats. Sure thats whats going to happen to robert bill barr is going to do a great job. Shannon you know the acquisitions that he is given preferential treatment, the doj has, to people linked to the president , whether its roger stone or others, Michael Flynn, called for the missile of the charges against him. The way that he characterized the Mueller Report when it came out. Theyre going to have a lot of ammo to throw at them tomorrow. With the democrats did think about in that two month time period between election day 16 and Inauguration Day januar. In that two month time. Matt, 38 different people unmasked Michael Flynns name 49 times. They were out to get Michael Flynn because they knew one thing. Michael flynn will figure out what we did. Michael flynn was the former Defense Intelligence had to, is going to go into the Trump Trump Administration as National Security advisor to President Trump, he will figure it out. We have to stop them. They do know that thats what they tried to do. Thats what they did, because they say so in the notes were he says whats our goal, to get him to lie so we can fire him, or prosecution . They did all that. For them to accuse bill barr of anything but adhering to the rule of law and doing the right thing, particularly in the Michael Flynn case is just ridiculous. The American People understand what they did to that threestar general who served our country for 30 years, how wrong it was. In bill barr, thank goodness he said these charges should be dropped. Lets hope the judge, judge sullivan dropped the charges here soon and they let mike flynn alone for a while, for goodness sake. Shannon that thing remains unresolved. We will see how that turns out. Meanwhile, one of the things theyre going to ask him about is the feds getting involved in different cities, having a lot of violence. Congressman jerry nadler, the chair of the House Judiciary Committee was asked this weekend about who he thinks and characterizations of whos behind the protests. Heres a little bit of what he had to say. Is it about antifa thats happening in portland right now . Thats a myth thats being spread only in washington, d. C. About antifa important . What do you think, congressman . He suspending this thing on antifa is a myth. It scary that he says that. The chairman of the judiciary committee, the chairman that supposed to look out for the rule of law is supposed to be concerned about the constitution and protecting basic rights and liberties and a terrorist organization is anything but a myth. It was just three and a half weeks ago while mr. Napper on the house floor in a debate with us says antifa is imaginary, so least is consistent, consistently wrong about this Terror Organization that President Trump is rightly called the Terror Organization. Last weekend, officers blinded by these people using lasers, officers go tell the officers who have been blinded, the officers often attacked ask them if antifa is a myth or an imaginary organization. Ask the journalist was attacked in portland over a year ago if they are an imaginary organization or some kind of myth. They are very real, they are very dangerous, bill barr knows it. Thats one of the reason why the democrats are out to get bill barr, because hes called it accurately and truthfully. Shannon really quickly before you go, because we know there are efforts that are underway trying to hang out a number another relief bill, democrats are saying its unconscionable that the addition of an employment is being cut to 200 also liability protections, they say this is all about protecting big corporations and not average americans who need help. Liability protections are just common sense. That needs to be in any legislation moving forward and we obviously need to but countless numbers of employers in our district say that they cant get enough people to come back to work. The Great American comeback is happening. The vshaped recovery is happening. They cant get people to work because youre paying people more to stay home that took him to work, thats not a good thing. Lets take care of an employment but lets do it in a way that doesnt incentivize people to stay home and not come to work. That is just good common sense, something most americans get, but unfortunately democrats in congress dont seem to understand. Shannon see if you can get to some bipartisan consensus is that moves forward. Congressman jim jordan, always good to have. Thank you, shannon, take care. Shannon designated antifa as a terrorist organization, we will continue track that. To austin hour we are going to read more about the black lives matter protesters who were shot and killed by a motorist on saturday. Police say the driver reported that 28yearold Garrett Foster pointed a rifle at him and that he shot foster and weeks ago, it so happens that foster was interviewed about the protest. Nodded and letting us walk in the downtown streets anymore, let alone the service road on the highway. They are scooping us up as soon as we set foot on any of these roads now. So theyve been a lot less tolerance. There beyond sick of our [bleep]. I think they are tired of the overtime hours. Shannon alex hogan is following the very latest from austin and beyond. Good evening, alex. Good evening, shannon. Black lives matter protesters continuing threat the nation this weekend while many were peaceful. Some becoming violent and austin, a protest theyre actually turning deadly over the weekend. According to police there, a man drove his car into a protest and shot Garrett Foster after he allegedly pointed his life will at him. 28yearold foster died at the hospital. The driver fled from the scene and then called 911 to report himself. Police taking him in, seizing his car and gone as evidence. He is not free as the investigation continues. Fosters mom speaking out saying he regularly attend these protests with his wheelchairbound fiance and only brought his rifle for protecti protection. My son would never, ever point a gun at somebody. And risk going to jail or getting shot, because he wouldnt want to leave the love of his life helpless like she has now. Gunfire breaking out in a protest in aurora, colorado, as well after a car drove through the large group there. One protester shooting at the vehicle as it sped away, hitting two people. Police releasing a photo of a man they believe was involved in the shooting, but not yet confirming if the driver was shot. Demonstrators there also causing major damage to the courthouse. Breaking windows and even starting a fire inside the building. Mayor mike coffman tweeting aurora cant become the next portland, adding in part, make no mistake, the ones who remained behind were not protesters, but simply using the protest as a cover for their violent actions. In richmond, virginia, police arresting 16 people and deploying tear gas after crowds set a mattress and a dump truck on fire. Here in new york, protest also continuing over the weekend with the black lives matter mural outside the trump tower vandalized for the fourth time since it was painted just this month. Shannon. Shannon all right, alex hogan for us in new york. Thank you, alex. We are monitoring another night of unrest in major u. S. Cities and debating the impact on the 2020 race. Protests in oakland, california, turning violent, vandals setting a fire inside the courthouse. No arrests reported as of yet. We will say on that. The way the incident is being reported is raising some eyebrows. Abc tweeting protesters in california set fire to a courthouse, damaged a Police Station and assaulted officers after a peaceful demonstration intensified. Senior clinical analyst brit hume joins us now. By the way, and a special on fox nation called the jack playbook. Good to have it with us. Thank you, shannon. Shannon another assessment comes from cnn. Com. An opinion piece saying the headline what changes a protest from peaceful to violent . Aggressive Law Enforcement. It goes on to say when police carry out violent repression against protesters, this can both escalate violence in the moment and precipitate more violence in future protests. What you make of the coverage of what we are seeing from coasttocoast . Theres a determination it seems to me to portray these protests the matter how violent they become as peaceful or largely peaceful him or having merely as that headline you quoted, intensified. And i, you know, i think people watching on television can see with their own eyes, thats really not whats happening. They are a participant in socalled demonstrations that are bent on violence, they are provoking the violence, they are attacking federal buildings and other facilities. They are lighting fires. They are throwing explosives that authorities and so on. The idea that this is somehow being provoked by Law Enforcement seems to me flies in the face of reason and flies in the face of what most people are seeing with their own eyes on television. Shannon to that point, a new poll shows that most americans with a server and are very worried about this. The hill has the headline majorities say they are concerned about rising crime in u. S. Cities. 70 of respondents say they are concerned that crime is rising in the nations cities while 46 of respondents said they are worried about rising crime in their own communities. That was a harvard cat paris ball. The director of that polling unit, mark penn went on to say this. At the same time they see an increase in violence and crime, they are concerned that prosecutors are not prosecuting the crimes. This is something weve been talking about on the show. Accusations that these local prosecutors are not actually prosecuting crimes. Menopause shows that people are worried about that as well. Shannon and with some reason it seems to me. Overall crime rates in america i think of been trending down and have been for some time but in these outbreaks, we have places where it is certainly trending up and people are seeing it and then when they see a couple standing outside their own home with weapons in hand to defend their own property and they are the ones being prosecuted by the local authorities, they take a dim view of that and then when you see the mayor of portland, who was also the mayor of portland, oregon, who is also the Police Commissioner participating in the protests to the point where when it turned violent, he got tear gassed. They certainly are entitled to think that the authorities are not on the side of the peace forces, but are on the side of the protesters and even the violent protesters, which i think is whats happening and thats why youre beginning to see this in the balls. It may not come shannon, overcome peoples fears and preoccupation about coronavirus, but its a rising issue and one that i think democrats running for office need to be careful about because if they are seen as on the side of these violent protesters, thats trouble. Shannon okay, the federalist, the headline there, this is how they describe the weekend. Fatalities and injuries climax riots around the nation grow more violence. Another fatal weekend struck the United States as protests and riots around the country grew increasingly violent. Big cities such as chicago, seattle, denver, austin, and portland all suffer from a weekend filled with chaos. You know, journalists, which we are all supposed to be, who report on these things are supposed to stick to facts. The video speaks for itself in many of these cases. Why is there, you think an effort by some to characterize this in a way that seems different than what we are viewing with our own eyes and ears . I think because so many of the modern day journalists have abandoned the old idea of neutral News Coverage. In favor of coverage that takes sides. In fact, one of the things we are criticized today about journalisms opposition to whats called both sides when i was coming along as a Young Journalist many years ago, it was what we did. We went to a story, we covered what we saw, we reported what we saw and we reported what both sides very often there were only two sides arguing over something are fighting over something for giving a of something. We reported what both sides dead and we didnt bias the story towards one side of the other. That seems to have gone out the window. Journalists now seem to think they know what the real truth is and they are determined to reported and they dont want to bother with the side they dont agree with. I think americans expect Something Different from journalists for covering the news as opposed to opinions in the editorial columns or commentary on television and they are not getting it these days. And so far, some news organizations are profiting from what they are doing, but i think its a loss to the country. A loss to the nation. Neutral News Coverage is what we badly need. Shannon what to say to those who say from the white house on down, various conservative, what they would characterize as conservative Media Outlets are the ones where painting is protesters into essentially bogeyman, that they are overhyping whats actually going on in that they are creating something that will allow the president then to go out and say law and order is what we need, i got to crack down, this is what ive got to do. They point to the other side and say they are the ones who are fomenting this and not reporting on it accurately. I would point to the democratic mayor who said today that these violent protesters are playing into trumps hands. In other words thereby acknowledging that the violence on the streets is real and warning these violent rioters that they are helping President Trump. Wouldnt have to warn them of that if it werent happening, and it is happening and thats why when people hear these people making claims trump is hyping this and so on, lets go to the videotape, show what it shows. And we had this huge number of arrests in portland, 74 arrests in seattle last night over these protests. Im sorry, i think the facts are pretty clear and people can see i think can see through the faulty journalism that they are getting about it. Shannon we will keep taking folks there to the street with citizen journalists, journalists, people who are on the ground, twitter and elsewhere. You can go out there and look at the images for yourself and we will continue to bring them to folks as well. Always great to have you, thank you. Thank you, shannon. Shannon the Miami Marlins dealing with a serious coronavirus outbreak. Correspondent phil keating has the latest on it for miami. After beating the Philadelphia Phillies last night, instead of flying back to miami for tonights home opener, the marlins stayed put in quarantine after ten players and coasted potomac coaches tested positive for coronavirus. The home opener is not canceled between affiliates and yankees. The plan for the shortened season up in the air. You have teams that are traveling to different cities and are not living in a bubble. And coronavirus is spreading in the manner that it is across the country as this was bound to happen. Today is a day of hope. Today is a day of promise. Vice president mike pence, who heads the White House Coronavirus task force came to miami for a round table with university of miami doctors and researchers. One of the universities participating with the National Institute of Health Operation warp speed to develop a coronavirus vaccine. Phase three of the biotech firms promising trial begins today. Miamidade county is one of the hottest hot spots nationwide for Coronavirus Infection and spread with a positive test rate has been hovering in the high teens for the past two weeks. According to the state, one in 50 floridians has now tested positive. Im pleased to report that if you look at the emergency room for a covidlike illness, they are the lowest levels that wed seen since the middle of june. Florida surpassed new york of the week is the number two stayed with the most cases after california, which suffered setbacks with its evil burning. But there are promising signs, some of the hardest hit states are seeing some plateauing, affect the health and Human Services credits to people following mass guidelines. Also today, silicon valleybased google announced it will continue having us all if employees more gallantly from home at least until next summer. That is the longest timetable to date by any major u. S. Corporation. Shannon. Shannon all right, phil keating in florida, thank you. President trump took his push for a vaccine to battleground state North Carolina today and as he toured a biotech facility just hours after the news broke that one of his most senior advisors had tested positive, the president promised a vaccine in record time. The former President Joe Biden says the president is not up to the task. Instead laying out his own list of demands for vaccine development. First, scientists and Public Health experts decide on safety and efficacy. Second, Political Data for any vaccine should be made available to the public for independent textual reviews. Third, there must be full transparency on recommendations by career staff. Fox news medical contributor marc siegel joins us now to discuss this latest twist in the vaccine race. Good to have you back, doctor. Hi, shannon, how are you . Shannon im good, so what do you, you have that list and you think that sounds reasonable. Is it or isnt it one more talk about operation warp speed of vaccine been going . Well actually its been extremely transparent, so im puzzled at the statement. Everything he said in there is already being done in spades in the last thing we need is another layer of bureaucracy on top of it. Let me explain what i mean by that. I have talked to the head of the fda on this, ive spoken to alex azar, head of hhs on this. Ive talked to the admiral, number two at hhs. Ive talked to Anthony Fauci about this. And they are all heavily involved in this vaccine developments, not to mention the fact that theres been huge studies out in phase one, phase two trials. The Oxford University vaccine was just published the early data, the number one journal in britain with over 30 authors and published in the new england journal of medicine, which is our holy grail of journals and it showed its data very transparently. So this transparency, theres top scientists involved, we are seeing every step of the way how this is going and its going fast, but we are aware of it. The president i spoke to last week and he was very forthcoming about this. I expect this to be a bipartisan situation. Shannon especially if its going to benefit people across the country, hopefully around the world with whats coming together. I want to ask you though because this debate continues about what we learn and discover about this virus as we go. There are a couple of new jersey gym owners that we have covered a lot, they have stayed open, they put in temperature checks all kinds of things but the state has told them you cannot be open. They were arrested today. One of them was on earlier he said im not upset about being arrested, im just sorry that this is what i have to do to feed my family. Heres a little bit more of what he said. Im not afraid of tyrants and no american should be, because we outnumber them greatly in the only thing that they run off of his fear, just why you see what you see in the media where they are fear into the coronavirus when what they should be pumping at solutions. They dont do that, they dont ever offer any solutions. Its where a mask, shut up and wait for a vaccine. Thats not Public Health and i wont subscribe to it. Shannon all right, doctor, hes now at some trouble. He has been in and out of it the last few weeks but he says i dont think the science fits, whats happening and i got to be able to support my family and i can do it safely having people come into the gym, do you think is right . I think is very articulate and i love that he put in the term fear, which i wrote a book on here. Hes right that fear corrodes an interference with Public Health. The first question is, are we in a hot spot or are we and hot spot and hes in an area of jersey where its not a hot spot, so that would mean the risks are last. Second he brought along a statistic that 13,000 people have been in that gym since june. 13,000 have tested positive. Thats a huge issue, and thirdly, hes obeying a certain amount of social distancing in the gym. I believe in masking, but masking isnt the whole solution here. I think he has a lot of very persuasive points. We should only be applying the strict oconee measures in severe hot spots, not a rope around everything and otherwise we end up killing up every business we have. Shannon all right, dr. Marc siegel, we always appreciate your insights, thank you. Thank you, shannon. Shannon okay, the first president ial debate will be at Case Western Reserve University in cleveland and not the university of notre dame as originally planned. Notre dame says covid precautions would have interfered with student education so that debate will not be held at case western in the Cleveland ClinicHealth Education campus. Curriculum controversy over when your kids are being taught in u. S. Public schools about American History. Ben shapiro sounds off, he is live with us next. Shannon s america debates how and when to reopen our schools, the Washington Post is reporting on the trend of wellhealed parents pulling their kids out of Public Schools and sending them to private schools, which are more in the of planning on reopening. As the post says, the fact that these private schools may offer some in class instruction has fueled an uptick in enrollment inquiries from families who can afford to make the switch. When thats not the case for a lot of people out there. School districts in washington, buffalo, and chicago are among those incorporated in the New York Times magazines 1619 project into their curriculum. The 1619 project proposes that americas true founding was 1619 when the first african slaves arrived here rather than 1776 when the colonies declared independence from great britain. Tom cotton doesnt think the 1619 project should be taught in schools in the u. S. And this week and he was quoted as saying the Founding Fathers saw slavery as a necessary evil. That is fake news, brian. Thats not what i said. What i said is that many founders believed that only with the union and the constitution could we put slavery on the path to its ultimate extinction. Shannon ben shapiro is author of the new book, how to destroy america in three steps. He joins us not to talk about the 1619 project being taught to your kids in schools. Great to have you back. Thanks for having me. Shannon okay, so the New York Times, the spokesperson speaking about the 1619 project set this. He said its based in part on decades of recent scholarship by leading historians of early america that has profoundly expanded our sense of the colonial and revolutionary period. Much of the scholarship has focused on the central wall that slavery is late in the nations founding. Thats the purpose, thats what this is all about. Innocuous or not . Certainly not innocuous. Creator of the 6019 project acknowledged openly on twitter today, she said this is not a historical project, its not about history, its about a journalistic enterprise to rewrite the narrative america if he says that even in her opening essay to the 1619 project, which won a pulitzer despite being ripped to shreds by several historians. The entire goal of the 1619 project is to recapitulate American History and the worst possible light to see all of American History as a reflection of its worst excesses and evils and its racism, its bigotry, as opposed to seeing america as a country founded on great greater principles in the declaration of independence. We havent was lived up to those many of the founders didnt themselves. The story of americas how increasing the lip of those pencils over time and how we come closer to the universalization of those pencils. Thats the traditional history of america paired the 6019 projects at 7076 didnt matter, 69th and is the only thing that matters, the only thing that is unique about america is its unique evil, not its unique principles. Shannon and you are right, she was on twitter today in defense of the project. I want to read another one of her tweets. She said the crazy thing is the 6019 project is using history and reporting to make an argument. It never pretended to be history, we expressly state our aims and produced a series of essays critique was always expected but the need to discredit it speaks to something else. How do you respond to that of someone who is questioning it who is a critic of it back she says that more about you. Its bad history and question the motives of people based on the fact that they are just questioning your actual argument is a pretty bizarre way of going about defending her actual argument. If you like your argument, different argument. If your argument is that america is hateful, bigoted and evil it when youre going to have to explain how black americans are some of the great heroes of the american story. Youre going to have to explain why Frederick Douglass taught the declaration of independence is a universal printable that america needed to uphold. You will have to explain my Martin Luther king saw the declaration of independence is a promissory note and americans were called upon to fulfill.
