Striking a candid tone about what we are facing. His message, the Vaccine Research may be in record time, more tough days are ahead in americas fight against covid19. Hello and welcome to fox news night, im Shannon Bream in washington. Lets go straight to correspondent bryan llenas. Hes live without it breaking news from chicago, good evening, brian. Shannon, good evening, this is the most amount of shooting victims in recent memory in chicago. At about 6 30 p. M. , four individuals in a black vehicle opened fire in the south side of chicago outside of a funeral home. 14 people were shot. Some of those funeral attendees ended up opening fire on that vehicle. We do not know the specific conditions of the victims, only that most are in serious to critical condition. They have been sent to five area hospitals. Some 60 gun shell casings have been found on the scene. The suspects crashed that vehicle that they were in and they fled the scene. The police do have one person of interest in custody. The motive is unknown at this time but we know that one officer was assigned to protect that funeral as a precaution. The funeral was for a man that was shot and killed just a mile and a half away from that funeral home. Tonights shooting happened amid a major spike in gun violence in chicago where year to date shootings are up 47 and murders are up 51 . Before the shooting, President Trump reportedly signed off on sending 150 Homeland Security investigative agents to chicago to reinforce local Law Enforcement there. Witnesses to tonights shooting say they welcome that federal help. We wish it would stop. The violence is literally just as worse as the pandemic. So we need more cops and federal troops because its literally like we are in iraq. Two weeks ago, President Trump and his department of justice launched operation legend, an effort to send federal Law Enforcement reinforcements to cities experiencing a recent surge in gun violence. It started in kansas city, missouri, which is experiencing a record homicide rate. Today, chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot accepted the same federal help to bolster the fbi, dea and the atf there, but she said the agents will be managed in part by the u. S. Attorney for the Northern District of illinois. Mayor lightfoot making it very clear she is wary of federal agents being deployed as they have been important organ or the feds are accused of using Excessive Force in violating civil rights in confrontations with groups of protesters who have been attempting to destroy the federal courthouse there. In a tweet tonight, sent by the mayor just minutes before that shooting in chicago, mayor lightfoot wrote this, under no circumstances will i allow Donald Trumps troops to come to chicago and terrorize our residents. Shannon, it is important to note the federal agents that are in portland according to the dhs, department of Homeland Security, are there because they sent them there. Dhs says those agents are there to protect federal property from rioters. They are not sent their under operation legend to help with traditional crime. That is a whole separate operation, but again, what we are seeing here is both sides of the political aisle, they are conflating both issues for political points and thats a whole separate situation, but dhs saying whats happening in portland is not operation legend, which is federal agents reinforcing to help Law Enforcement fight traditional crime. Shannon. Shannon all right, there are different silos for different agencies there. Thank you very much for the live update. So as we continue to monitor the situation outside the chicago funeral home, Chicago Police superintendent david brown says his officers were ambushed during violent crashes between processorprotesters and police. On monday night mayor Lori Lightfoot pointed the finger of blame at the leadership of the police union. The things that the federal government that the Trump Administration wants to do, appear to have the support of the Police Firemen released the police union in your city. Weve seen incidents sorry . Not our police department. With got an unhinged leader of the fraternal order of the police who is craven and trying to generate attention. Shannon lets discuss the mayors accusation and the Bigger Picture of chicago violence with this playing out tonight with author and Chicago Police officer martin fry. Good to have you back, martin. Good to be here. Shannon i dont know if you had a chance to see one of the gentleman that was a witness to whats played out in chicago tonight, he says he feels like its in iraq, more police and the streets, more federal troops. The mayor says no way she going to allow them to come in and she says terrorize a local chicago residents. Whats your take on where things stand in chicago . I should let you know im speaking im a writer, so im not speaking on behalf of the police department, but as of the writing i do. The rhetoric is very intense from the mayor, but, you know, i think hopefully there was a thaw today when she said that support, federal support can come in and help the police department. I think its absolutely crucial that the mayor and the president S Administration sit down and at least talk about programs. I think im a strong advocate that the department of justice in u. S. Attorney should step in because i think the central problem in chicago is we dont have not only do we not have a prosecutor who is prosecuting crimes, but she is on the side of the antipolice movement. Shannon and youre talking kim fox. The cook county states attorney there and i know that you think that shes not doing her job when it comes to the vast much of crime, the spike. Its been bad in chicago for a while now but what we are seeing in the past few weeks is taking it to a new level. Is it your contention shes not actually prosecuting crimes, and if thats the case, how do officers deal with arresting people and trying to prosecute and stamp out crime if you have a prosecutor who will participate in that . Yeah, its a central component of the Justice System that is completely failed because of kimberly fox. And then on top of that you have this very intense antipolice movement. My hope is that these officers who were injured in this riots, i think that they should look towards civil lawsuits if it can be determined there was a specific organization with a hierarchy that was behind these attacks and if there is, i think its time to get them in court and im hopeful that the u. S. Attorney and the department of justice will step in and do what kimberly fox never does. Its time we find out who these people are. Their hierarchal structure, what are they up to . I think the situation is getting dire and we have an election in, you know, several months. Is this a prelude to what we are going to see during the election . Im very concerned not only about chicago but the entire country. Shannon yeah. Let us all hope not. And as you said, prosecutions, there are videos, there are images a lot of people who are involved in these things and that may give a very good tool to prosecutors who are willing we know the feds look into these situations. I want to play something very quickly, a former Police Officer there, heres his take. People are too afraid right now to ask the president for help because if it does work theyre going to make the president look like a success and its a political move. We are dealing with biblical proportions right now in chica chicago. Shannon martin, do you think thats an accurate description of whats going on in chicago and are you worried that politics will keep the people of chicago from getting help they may need to . Its possible. Its a deeply political town and i do believe that plays a fourth and a lot of peoples decisions and i think it can be despicable, but i mean, we have a lot of children being killed. We have a lot of people being killed. I think now is the time for people to sit down and set that aside. The rhetoric is so heated and if the mayor you know, she doesnt like President Trump, im a big fan of President Trump, but if she doesnt like President Trump as well, certainly the u. S. Attorney is out there, the department of justice is out there. All those officers who were injured, they are victims of crime. And the people who committed those crimes against them should be held accountable and i think thats a good starting point. Shannon i think youre right. Martin, thank you for your service out there in a place that can be very dangerous, youre a talented writer as well as being a Police Officer, we thank you for your time tonight. Thank you very kindly. Shannon the president is back holding his first Coronavirus Briefing in months. This act providing a measured evaluation of where the u. S. Stands tonight in combating the coronavirus. White house correspondent kevin corke has all the highlights for us. Evening, shannon. Someone actually called a bit of a shift in tone or maybe style but by any measure the president s demeanor during day days Coronavirus Briefing certainly wasnt combative or what we would come to call political futurism. Instead it frankly seemed focused on two main themes. Number one, the progress being made in the fight against the virus and number two, a sobering assessment of where we are right now. Some areas of our country are doing very well, others are doing less well. It will probably unfortunately get worse before it gets better, something i dont like saying about things, but thats the way it is. An honest assessment thereby the commander in chief. It was also asked about wearing a mask, something we have seen him do in the not too recent past. About which he said this. I have no problem with the masks. I view it this way. Anything that potentially can help, and that certainly can potentially help, is a good thing. I have no problem, i carry it, i wear it, you saw me wearing it a number of times and ill continue. Im getting used to the mask and the reason is i think about patriotism. Maybe it is, it helps. It helps. Certainly that has been the message, that it helps. And while the president continues to describe covid19, the coronavirus, as the chinese virus, he was very clear today that the administration would not turn down any help from beijing if it meant helping keep americans safe. Yeah, we are willing to work with anybody thats going to get us a good result. We are very close to the vaccine, i think we are going to have some very good results. We are already in testing, nobody thought that would be possible. Under the old system it would be a year to two years before you could even think about using the word testing so i think without a lot of and the reason we are testing, theyve had good results. Good results is certainly encouraging as we take a look inside the numbers, you see the cases nearing 4 million deaths, topping 140,000. If the fatality rate right around 3. 7 however, and this is important, 82. 2 of the deaths for those aged 65 and up, perhaps most telling obviously then is the fact that even as the death rate continues to fall of course the epidemiologists will have to confirm that with more data, i think its fair to say that with the president really needs, shannon, right now, is a show of progress and promise in this fight, certainly bowling seemed just as much when with the Campaign Just on their days, nows a time to reach him start the and reassure americans that they can resume their lives safely and soon. Shannon. Shannon what an Election Year this has been. Kevin, thank you. You bet. Shannon the lawn of the Michigan State capitol in man, glancing turn into a big outdoor gym today as Fitness Club Owners and patrons worked out to rally awareness about what they say is their financial predicament. The gems are facing struggling to survive after being closed for months. We are desperately in need of help at this point. For the second time in less than a week a staffer on Joe Biden Campaign is under fire for controversial social media posts that undermine the former Vice President public messaging. Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich is digging into the latest details tonight. Good evening. Good evening, shannon. The focus for the Campaign Today was on the third pillar of bidens economic Recovery Plan that he released today with a plan to address elder and also child care after the pandemic shutdown schools and ravaged nursing homes. Biden crafted a plan he said will address the needs of both families struggling to care for the sick and elderly as well as children. Now stripped of their routine with schools closed. Despite a 775 billion price tag, he says it will pay off with 3 million jobs. The plan makes prekindergarten universal for three and 4yearolds, increases pay for child care workers and incentivizes new and upgraded facilities and works to clear an 8,000 person waiting list for home and Community Services under medicaid. Biden says the rich would pay for it. Closing loopholes. Unproductive tax cuts for high income while ensuring high income earners pay their tax bills. The president indicated things will right themselves. These trends could change without our continued and relentless focus, thats what we have, we have a relentless focus, and its been that way from the beginning. Meantime, Biden Campaign staffer facing intended scrutiny after sexist messages surfaced on social media posted by Biden Communications director marshall as early as 2011 when he tweeted even know i like power women, i need her to know her place, meaning i wear the pants and in 2012, are all women crazy . Shannon we are back with a fox news alert. The Justice Department charging two chinese hackers accused of trying to get their hands on covid19 Vaccine Research. Gillian turner explores the connections to chinas government. Good evening, shannon buried china is under intense scrutiny on multiple fronts tonight over alleged attempts to interfere with u. S. Vaccine trials and steal information from American Biotech firms. Today the Justice Department accused the Chinese Government abusing criminal hackers in order to steal vaccine secrets. The fbi saying top chinese officials were acting like an organized criminal syndicate. China steals an electoral property and research which bolsters its economy. And then they use that elicit game as a weapon. The justice apartment claims two suspect stole information from a range of tech firms are pharmaceutical, about drugs currently in development. The suspects will likely never faced justice here because china doesnt have an extradition treaty the united states. Can you guys tell me if any of this happen in china . Over on l, reps 15 pharmaceutical giants easter grilling from republicans about their ties to china, including major supply chain issues. All five companies assured lawmakers that actual doses would be made here in the u. S. But they couldnt guarantee vaccine ingredients wouldnt come from china. President trump concedes the need for a vaccine soon means g. O. P. Calls to reverse chinas hold on drug agreement production may have to wait. We are willing to work with anybody thats going to get us a good result. Democrats however are more concerned about price tags and profits earned by big pharma. Illinois rep demanding to know just how much each Company Plans to upsell their vaccine to americans. And they mostly passed her test. We will not sell it at cost. At no profit. We will not be selling vaccine at cost. We will be providing at a notforprofit price during the emergency pandemic. It turns out u. S. Lawmakers arent the only ones while aware that a vaccine could become a golden ticket. These hackers make it very clear that you must know mike, u. S. Adversaries are not looking for opportunities to cash in on the pandemic, shannon. Shannon all right, gillian turner, thank you very much. As kevin corke showed us earlier, the president was back at the white houses Briefing Room today and was as bullish as ever on the potential of operation warp speed, to deliver a vaccine in record time. Getting a vaccine remains a top priority. To go vaccine candidates are entering the final stage of Clinical Trials this month. This was achieved in record ti time. Shannon david dodd, ceo of the Biotechnology Company joins us to discuss brandnew development in the vaccine race, which include his company. David, welcome back, good to have. Thank you. Shannon i want to start with some of the reporting the gillian was talking about because i know we had you want before you talked about a partnership at least of the time that you all were working with the chinese Vaccine Company to try to move this thing along and expedite it. The New York Times today says u. S. Hackers u. S. Accuses hackers of trying to steal Coronavirus Vaccine data for china. Since the chinese hackers operated with the assistance of their countrys intelligence agencies, their interests were broad, but recently grew to include information about Coronavirus Vaccine development that other virusrelated data. You have any concerns along that front . Very much so. I have tremendous concerns along that front. In fact, in late april excuse me, early april, we made a decision not to proceed with what was going to be a partnership or a collaboration with the chinese company. We felt very positive about that company but we just decided that the best route for us was to go forward on our own, so we informed them towards the end of march that we were not going to proceed working with them. We did not sign an agreement. Subsequently i had a discussion with the fbi because they were very concerned about what was going on. We were well aware of that ourselves and so we have proceeded on our own in the full development for vaccine against covid19 because we just became, along with many others, concerned about the amount of activity and inquisitiveness i would say about what we were doing and our intellectual property and our knowhow. Shannon so today, hearing, mustve been virtual involving a number of leaders of these Pharma Companies were working on vaccines and there were two main issues, one of them was price. This is what Bernie Sanders tweeted out not long ago about this. He says pharmaceutical companys have been given 6 billion in taxpayer dollars and more to come to develop a Coronavirus Vaccine. Once a safe and effective vaccine is approved by the fda, it must be made available to all for free. This is no time for profiteering. We know this doesnt get done for free, david, so how will pricing work as far as you understand it in this case . Welcome in early march when i was in washington, d. C. , and when i first met you and i was meeting with different members of congress, either representatives or senators even, members on the staff of the house of energy and commerce committee, we made a commitment that we would develop the vaccine and we would do it without making any profit. We would contribute to the public good because we believe that strongly in it. We certainly would cover our costs but what we would do is be able to deliver a vaccine without garnering a profit from that. And i think in this particular time, thats what most companies are hopefully considering in doing, not that theyre going to have a loss added, but theyre not going to profit from it. And from my interactions and discussions with any other pharmaceutical companies or Vaccine Development companies, i think by and large most are willing to do it on those same terms. I think we were probably one of the first to go out in the front and inform people in congress and inform people and others that we would be willing to deliver a vaccine without making a profit, but certainly covering our costs. Shannon well, that was back when you and i could be in the same tv studio safely. We look forward to those days ahead and we wish you all the best as well as the others were fighting to get us a vaccine so that life can return to a safer place. David dodd, thank you. Shannon america is reckoning with racism, coming tonight for planned parenthood. The Greater New York branch will remove the name of the organizations founder founder from its manhattan clinic because of her harmful connections to the eugenics movement. Chief breaking news correspondent Trace Gallagher is on the case for us tonight. Hey, trace. Shannon, good evening. For decades, prolife activists have accused the founder of planned parenthood of being a racist and for decades, planned parenthood has defended her. In 2016 on the organizations 100th anniversary, planned parenthood touted her accomplishments and outreach to the Africanamerican Community and try to explain away things like a speech she made to the ku klux klan in 1926 and her belief in eugenics. The theory of improving human qualities by controlling human reproduction. Something famously implement it by nazi germany in the 1930s. In 1957, she said this to journalist mike wallace. Watch. Do you believe in sin . My saved belief come out of me and in committing sin, to think there is such a thing as sin . I think the greatest sin in the world is bringing children in the world that have disease from their parents, that have no chance in the world to be a human being, practically. Delinquents, prisoners, just marked when theyre born. That to me is the greatest sin that people can commit. But after 350 current and former staffers to planned parenthood clinic in new york, along with hundreds of donors and supporters sent an open letter accusing planned parenthood being steeped in whites of pharmacy, the organization disavowed Margaret Sanger. Dean nelson, an africanamerican minister and executive director of the Human Coalition action says the decision is long overdue, but not good enough. Reverend nelson says theres no explanation for having 80 of planned parenthoods abortion clinics within walking distance of black neighborhoods. Adding this is the fulfillment of Margaret Sangers vision. It is unconscionable that the taxes of americans go to an organization with racist bounding and mission. We should note the new york chapter of planned parenthoods effort to disavow Margaret Sanger comes amid allegations that the chapter has long mistreated black employees. Finally, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and House Speaker nancy pelosi have both received planned parenthoods Margaret Sanger award. Shannon. Shannon all right, trace, thank you very much. So esther supported him for many years, prolife activists have been pointing out her racist legacy to no avail and now finally the chair of planned parenthood of near Greater New York tells fox news at night this. The removal of Margaret Sangers name from our building is both unnecessary and overdue step to reckon with our legacy and acknowledge planned parenthoods contribution to historical reproductive harm within communities of color. So lets discuss todays development with the executive director of the Human Coalition, reverend dean nelson and executive producer of the upcoming documentary divided parts of america. Benjamin watson. Welcome to you both, gentlemen. Thank you, shannon. Great to be here. Shannon reverend, i want to start with you. If you give them some credit in acknowledging the past involving Margaret Sanger, the fact that she spoke with the kkk, that she, you know, was involved in eugenics. They say listen, we are reckoning with our pasts, a lot of organizations as old as ours are doing that now. Without this was a necessary step and we admit needs to be done. Well, i think that after over 100 years they finally did admit that what we and many other people have known is true, that Margaret Sanger was a eugenici eugenicist, that she did practice eugenics and she worked with elitists during her day to fund her scheme. The problem however is with planned parenthood, this vision still is a reality. And 80 of our cities in america, they still continue to push abortion in black and latino communities and so i think its important for americans to note that while they have acknowledged this, the reality is that history of planned parenthood still exists today. Shannon well, new york is the clinic where this is changing, jason riley writing a piece of the wall street journal back in 2018. He cites numbers from the new york health apartment going 20122016 under this headline, lets talk about the black abortion rate. He said in new york city, thousands more black babies are aborted than born alive each year in the abortion rate among black mothers is more than three times higher than it is for white mothers. Benjamin, i know these are some of the things that youre tackling in your documentary because it get support and that we have a conversation about these realities. I definitely do. And to denounce or disavow Margaret Sanger for planned parenthood, thats surprising considering what they said over the last couple years about her, giving out awards in her honor and touting her as a hero, but now is a time of reckoning, as it should be. But just like reverend nelson said, the legacy of Margaret Sanger is being carried out actually right now in the present and so while at one time where looking back and announcing her for what she said then, the racism, the eugenicists, although sorts of things, we have to realize and they have to realize that they are literally carrying on her legacy as we speak today as mothers and children and fathers and families are being broken up because of the atrocity of abortion. If we really want to address it, if planned parenthood really wants to address this, lets address whats going on right now. Whats talk about how people disproportionately people who are affected the racism that they are denouncing from Margaret Sanger of the ones that are most disproportionately affected by this because of so many other factors that are driving people who are poor, minorities into their clinics and are not offering them help. At what theyre offering them is an option to terminate pregnancy. The legacy is being continued. Lets talk about that right now. Spoon i mean, i get a lot of communications from planned parenthood and stay in touch with them about these news issues, and ill say theyre actually the ones for looking out for women of color and minority communities who cant get health care elsewhere, and dont have other options and that they are not performing abortions based on race, but they are there to serve this community. It reverend your response . Well, i think all we have to do is go back and remember the letter that she wrote to Clarence Gamble of the Procter Gamble fortune where she said we dont want where to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro Population so i think if you have a founder that made those statements and wrote a letter like that in the new look at the plan that shes carrying out or that the organization is carrying out today, i think the question that is probably important for us to ask is to those Board Members of corporations that continue to fund planned parenthood, do you want to be associated with an organization that now admits not only that it has a racist founder, not only that their vision continues, but that just recently they had over 300 black women that said that they even in their own organization, they are new york city, practice racism, so i think that it is high time for those in Corporate America as well as in the federal government to ask why are we still funding planned parenthood . Shannon well, we always welcome planned parenthood to the show, they have gone before we appreciate that, we thank them for their statement tonight but what again by them to join us in the conversation on fox news at night. Reverend, benjamin, good to have you both, please come back. Thank you, shannon. Thank you so much. Shannon okay, where monitoring demonstrations and unrest across the nation tonight. Right now. Shannon amid recent scenes of what, calling urban chaos in american cities, the Trump Administration is doubling down tonight on its authority to deploy federal access to u. S. Cities being rocked by violence. The mayor of inglewood, california, who has also served as a police chief in numerous jurisdictions himself. Mayor, good to have you back. Great to be back, shannon. Shannon so a big political discussion, very heated at times about whether or not the feds should be involved here. Former Vice President biden saying this, we have a president who is determined to so chaos and division. Agents are brutally attacking Peaceful Protesters. The Trump Campaign responding, these Peaceful Protesters are using lakers to target officers eyes, shooting ball bearings with slingshots, using pellet guns and air rifles, launching fireworks at the officers and barricading Police Inside the federal courthouse. Mayor, why are the two sides so far apart on whats happening in our cities and what does or doesnt need to be done . Well you know, its interesting, because the symbiosis and cooperation of federal authorities and local authorities is something thats been happening for decades. Here in the city of inglewood we work with the fbi, who enforce racketeering laws that allow us to enhance penalties for criminal gang members and criminal drug organizations that ordinarily we could not achieve by ourselves. And over the last five years weve broken the backs of three separate gangs, dropped our murder rates from 25 to 38 a year down to 2 last year. Thats what happens when the two agencies work cooperatively. That being said, what you have happening now is no federal authorities coming in and theres no Mission Definition and theres no command and control so that you have two different organizations working with different tactics and methodologies, thats where the problem comes from. Shannon their mission is to guard the federal properties, thats what theyre doing and i think everybody agrees theyre not supposed to be doing local policing, at least it seems like thats the conversation everybodys agreed to but i want to point to something that james comey of all people wrote today about this in the washington post. He said federal and oregon laws with respect to portland appear to offer a wide latitude to make arrests and forgo identifying insignia and service of their mission to protect federal property including court houses, maybe that should change, but current law appears to give them a lot of room. As somebody who has devoted his life to Law Enforcement, what you make of that characterization . First of all, theres nothing wrong if the federal authorities mission is to guard and protect federal structures. The problem comes when they come off site of those properties and then they conduct enforcement activities and theyre not identified because i dont think anyone wants a police force where people can come and conduct Police Activities and you have no idea who youre dealing with. So that being said, if they stayed with their mission to protect federal structures, that would be one thing, but whats happening is youre having them spell over into public streets and its my understanding that there conducting Enforcement Actions that are not directly related to their protection of federal properties. And thats where you have the confusion. Shannon i want to play something from mark morgan of ice today about whether or not these people are clearly marked or identified. Is what he said in a press conference with dhs. Clearly police. Its marked on the front and the back. Clearly. Every single agent. Deputy director klein said he doesnt have as officers were name tags because they are being doxxed. Thats exec leroy. If thats another thing thats absolutely disgusting. Theyre not only jeopardizing the lives of the agents, but also jeopardizing the lives of their families. Shannon quick final comment from you . One of the things, its understood when you take a lawenforcement role is that youre going to be identified. Police officers have an extraordinarily amount of power when it comes in the power to detain, the power to arrest the power to determine who gets prosecuted in the criminal Justice System. So to have people that are not identified by name is not acceptable. Shannon okay. Mayor, we always appreciate your experience and your insight on these matters, thank you for joining us. Shannon so your business was sort of shutter during the pandemic and during that time you say you had an epiphany that you are done with that business, but you got a lot of inventory. Youve decided to hide jewels, gold, all kinds of things around the state of michigan and youre now sponsoring this Treasure Hunts that people can sign up for. What in the world are you giving away . How does this work . Yeah, so my wife and i took everything and buried it all across michigan during the covid lockdown. At the time i liked doing it. So we put up a website together, johnnys treasure quest and would give everybody an opportunity to find out the treasure. Its really exciting. The first one is going to be august 1st at 10 00 a. M. Actually buried two of them in Oakland County, theyre both sold out, but people are canceling things, so tickets are coming back available, so its really really stoked and excited about it. Shannon so people have to solve puzzles and riddles and those kind of things. The first person who gets there, they win. What kind of things have you buried and are you worried that someones going to find them before the Treasure Hunt kicks off . Yeah, im a little worried about that, but ive got gps and there, im going to know if they move, constantly checking them making sure nothings moving. With the first hunt i got two 100ounce silver bars i buried, which is really exciting for someone to find, especially with the price of silver on the rise again buried shannon and people can either keep it or they can sell it back to you. How long will this go on . How much material do you have out there . Ive got a lot. Im hoping you know, i dont know what were going to do because the snow was going to come eventually, so i dont know if were going to ever reset or whatever, but were still working on that.
