Mike pompeo, secretary of state slamming china and the world health organization, accusing them of withholding crucial information on the coronavirus outbreak. This as a new report reveals chinese agents read fake messages to escalate panic in the us. The white house ways options to punish beijing. Good morning. A new New York Times report says that china may have been behind some of the disinformation in the United States in the early days of covid19. In march, some Text Messages going to numerous americans claiming a nationwide lockdown would take place, information spreading quickly, led to panic buying and more fear among americans, the White House National Security Council even issued a statement that the texts were not factually correct, this new report says the lies came from chinese agents who use a new tactic of delivering these measures is directly to cell phones. Mike pompeo called out china for their initial handling of the outbreak. China lied about the total number of cases in their country and the total number of deaths. Life is slowly returning to normal in china but the Trump Administration is not taking off the table possible consequences for beijing. Listen to the us secretary of state. Even after the ccp notified the who the coronavirus outbreak, they didnt share all the information they had. Instead it covered up how dangerous the disease is, didnt report sustained human to human transmission for a month until it was in every province inside china, centered those who tried to warn the world, in order to halt the testing of the samples and destroyed existing samples. As we know, us officials are still trying to gain access to that lab and wuhan where some analysts believe that outbreak first began, this is an ongoing trade dispute between china and the United States. Thank you, appreciate it. Deadly tornadoes ripping across the south, at least 6 people are dead with 21 tornadoes reported across oklahoma and texas. 21, the powerful storm system tearing through communities destroying the town of medill in oklahoma, moving a tractortrailer to its side. Janice continuing this morning, this afternoon and overnight tonight, we have tornado watches and warnings in place right now but as you mentioned 2 dozen reports of tornadoes yesterday and last evening in texas and oklahoma stretching into louisiana, we have tornado watches in effect for parts of louisiana through mississippi and alabama and into florida, that is a new watch just place within the last few minutes, a tornado warned storm west of patties, mississippi though these storms are caring quite a punch even in the morning hours, the overnight hours where we have potential for larger, damaging winds and large potentially destructive and deadly tornado, that threat is going to be with us for the next 12 to 18 hours. There is your Severe Threat through this evening. Those places towards florida, South Carolina and North Carolina so those are the areas we are watching throughout the next 6, 12, 18 hours and we could see potential for very large, destructive, potentially lifethreatening whether included in that, flash flooding so we will see potential for several inches of rain in a short time and some of these storms could come in the overnight hours so if you have Weather Radio you are urged to use it, the electricity could go out, no way of getting a warning, that is why we urge you to have your Weather Radio on. Joining us from that hospital, senior Hospital Doctor marion malthus, thank you for coming on, we appreciate it, tell us about the situation at your hospital and how things are looking . Things are looking a little better. We are seeing a downward trend for admissions for covid19 patients. Our Hospital Medicine Team is beginning to get little bit of a break and a rest from the pandemic in louisiana. Jillian lets look at some numbers here. 20,258 cases, at least 1300 deaths, 1473, 1700 hospitalizations. You see those numbers coupled with the state that a border state like texas is losing some restrictions this week, do you worry that people might go from louisiana to texas and back . If people are moving around a little bit too early in your state that could have an impact on the progress youre making . Absolutely. Following social distancing standards we will have more admissions to the hospital, no question about that. We have concerns about a second wave coming into hospitals that we are well prepared for that. Rob a chart shows your cases, your still on a pretty steady rise in cases so your behind other places like new york that are starting to plateau or come down. Do you see a problem with the idea of states reopening piecemeal in this way, the people will naturally flock to a neighboring state where they have more freedoms and come back and reinfected . Reporter the states need to make their own decisions how to reopen because each state has a different set of circumstances, some are more world than areas, urban areas are more at risk than other rural areas in various states so it is a variable decision that needs to be made based on local conditions. Lets look at timeline of texas reopening this week, state parks reopen, Wearing Masks on wednesday. Doctors performing some medical procedures, if they dont use extra hospital beds and tomorrow retail to go, retail outlets to go or delivery basis, that is what you are looking at in neighboring states. The video we showed at the beginning, the release of your 1500 patients, what was that moment like . This video looks like everyone is just happy for a moment in time. It was a tremendous moment, very amazing to see our whole hospital come together, very special for her because she had been through so much, being admitted to the icu, having come very close to losing her life, trusting us to take care of her. It was a tremendous act of faith for her and to see her be able to leave the hospital was just a tremendous moment and for us it was a very special moment as well because we acknowledge to ourselves that we were able to live up to our responsibility, take care of her and all that hard work for the previous six weeks came together with a positive outcome and it gave us great hope and joy that we can do this more and more, to help more patients survive this pandemic. Thank you for your time, youve got to celebrate the victories, we appreciate you coming on. Thank you. Hope to see more like that. The president not on board with the reopening of georgias economy. I told the governor of georgia that i disagree strongly with his decision to open certain facilities. Live with how Governor Kemp is defending his plan. 3 weeks and new york central park transform into a Field Hospital treating 160 coronavirus patients so far. We have an update on the Critical Mission in americas biggest hotspot. Rob it has been a month since a Field Hospital was opened in central park and those doctors and nurses have treated close to 200 patients. Jillian joining us is doctor linda, thank you for joining us. Give us an update how it is going on the front lines. We have treated almost 200 patients, the majority have been men. Really the highest proportion 6069, multiple ethnicities, different economic backgrounds, things have slowed down a little bit, yesterday we admitted less patients that we discharged which is great, we are discharging a lot of patients. Patients we are admitting have moderate disease, requiring mechanical ventilation, we have an icu on the ground were patients the required intubation are admitted and things are going basically well. We celebrated his seventieth birthday of a patient a few days ago and that was quite joyful, saying happy birthday so we are focusing on providing excellent care for patients with covid19. It is quite an amazing experience to see patients through their darkest moments, separated from their families, very challenging but the entire staff is extremely supportive and tried to be there during these dark moments. Rob it is really something what youre doing, 160 patients you have treated since opening up, 4060 patients every day, 68 beds and you are seeing a sampling of some of the worst, ten ventilators and some of those are being used, listen to the governor. Number of new people going into the hospital every day is still troublingly high, but better than it was, but still problematic. Rob still problematic on the caseload. How long do you estimate, any idea how long you will need to be here before things lighten up so you can go . We will be here as long as there is a need. There are conversations with mount sinai across the street, partnering to determine how long that will be. As long as there is a need to treat covid19 patients in new york city we will be here to do that. Jillian i know the family members of those were treating appreciate it, thank you. It is 26 after the hour, patients bouncing back after receiving a cuttingedge treatment. With end we tried all conventional therapies and we were losing the war. Plasma infusions from the blood of a recovered covid19 patients may have saved their lives. Rob this is a game changer but not a cure. Stay tuned. O together complete the 2020 census. Your responses are critical to plan for the next 10 years of health care, infrastructure, and education. Lets make a difference, together, by taking a few minutes to go online to 2020census. Gov. The president doubling down on his threat to let the navy open fire on iranian boats like the ones on this video threatening us ships in the persian gulf. Reporter mississippis attorney general filing a lawsuit against china for mishandling the coronavirus saying the country needs to be held accountable, quote, for the malicious and dangerous acts because death, injuries and serious economic loss. China responding to the lawsuit calling it absurd after the missouri ag filed a lawsuit against china earlier this week. Rob it is too soon, georgias governor making the wrong call as he plans to open businesses in his state tomorrow. Jillian coronavirus is are speaking in that state. Reporter opening barbershops, nail salons engines, donald trump is not seeing eye to eye with governor brian kemp, going as far as calling the move premature. S in beauty parlors and barbershops, i love them that they can wait a little longer, not much because safety has to predominate. We have to have that. Jillian the Trump Administration established benchmarks that states should clear before they reopen their states. One of those recommended guidelines is 14 days of declining new cases, Anthony Fauci advised against the move, theres a chance of resurgence of the virus. But Governor Kemp tweeted he believes businesses who choose to reopen will stay in compliance with minimum basic operations. As it stands georgia has in 21,000 total cases, nearly 900 deaths. According to Johns Hopkins the state of georgia is in the top 12 of the most confirmed cases. This morning representative buddy carter joined in with how the economy should be running again. The key is not how rapidly or slowly we get back into the economy but if we continue to follow the advice of the task force, washing her hands, practicing social distancing this will take a combination of technology and intuitiveness. Reporter Lindsey Graham weighed in on controversy, he says he agrees with Donald Trumps concerns about reopening georgia too soon, suggest as a nation we follow the guidelines put out by the Trump Administration. Rob thank you. Jillian two critical covid19 patients leaving the new jersey icu after plasma transfusions. We are at withs end, we tried all conventional therapies to try to save them and have nothing else to do for them and losing the war here. Rob an incredible story, you heard from one of the doctors who describes the recovery is nothing short of a miracle. Joining us with what this could mean in the fight to treat this virus is doctor mark siegel. If it turns out this was a perfect match. Absolutely. This is a treatment that has been used since the end of the 1800s for typhus, diphtheria, measles, polio, a triedandtrue treatment, it is when you take the antibodies from a recovering patient in plasma and put it into someone who is severely ill. It is being tested in 1600 centers, 1000 patients around the country to figure out when to give it, how severe. Moderate cases or severe cases and it is showing cases and it will improve dramatically because of something called passive immunity, antibodies from a recovered patient to someone who is still ill, those antibodies will work against the virus. We have to figure out who has it and who is over it so all of this testing with Antibody Testing is going to help us get a larger pool of donors we can use for more patients. Prior to this transfusion both of this patients required a ventilator and were said to be in grim condition at the hospital which is amazing to see that they are recovering at this point. Absolutely and it is not a cure but it, for someone that is tipping in the wrong direction you can to them in the other direction where you can fight the virus while closing a lot of damage in the body. When you have no other treatment, we dont have a vaccine so this is something that will absolutely be useful and will save lives, i am positive that. We are waiting for to come out of Clinical Trials so we can prove that but it has been used for several other diseases in the past very successfully. Rob we see people Wearing Masks, gloves, especially in new york, you see these laying around on the street. Is there a health risk to that . I was worried about this from the beginning, once we started transitioning to using masks because a mask can protect other people from you. If you are sick, or you have covid19 and dont know what are asymptomatic, maybe a slight cough the mask will be a barrier but it is also youre picking up virus on the surface of a mass, you touch the mask, touch your eyes, your face and then heres the part today, you reuse the masks so many times, you could disinfect your mask but if youre reusing a day after day and then put it on the street somebody else picks it up they can pick up covid19 that way so if you wear a mask which i do recommend in close quarters to protect other people from you, please make sure to discard this mask properly and not throw it on the street. Before we run this was shocking to a lot of people when we found that is the two new york cats were diagnosed, the first us pet cases. What do you make of this . I want to reassure people on this because there was a study in science, Major General that did show the cats if they have a high amount of virus can transmit it, dogs now, birds now, but cats yes, we saw five tigers and three lines in the bronx zoo get it from a zookeeper but it is not spreading from cats to people. It is not spreading that way, it is only spreading a little bit, isolated cases, just a few, from people to animals. As far as virus is concerned, i spoke to the president of the Veterinary Association who said for is not a good way to transmit virus. Pets are safe. I would keep an eye on this but we are not seeing a lot of spread this way. It is very isolated. You should love your pets and not worry about this. Thank you for your time, we appreciate it and we will be right back. Were also offering flexible Payment Options for those whove been financially affected by the crisis. We look forward to returning to something that feels a little closer to life as we knew it, but until then you can see how were here to help at libertymutual. Com covid19. Jillian and iowa grocer giving frontline workers and others in need easy access to facemasks by starting a giving tree where people can come and pick one up. Rob joining us is the creator of that giving tree. We appreciate it. Tell us about your idea and how you came up with it. I worked for unity point in mount vernon, iowa. They sent a request and along with the pattern of also unmasks, for people to make and donate and what the masks do is protect your filters in the n95 masks so those masks and filters can be reused and you wash your cloth masks. Jillian you used the tree because you didnt have easter this year and you put the masks on the tree to the people come by and pick them up so they could do it and social distance, seeing pictures of different healthcare workers, looking at that tree, what has been the response from healthcare workers in your community. Really good because i work at a Family Practice so i made sure everybody had two of them there. I think some people are afraid to ask or dont know where to go so i had masks and i thought since we werent having easter, that i would put masks under a tree my husband decorate every year so i put 30 out and put on facebook if anybody is interested in a mask they can get it off of the tree. It was kind of fun. We live on a farm and it was fun watching people coming and take the mask and leave and honk and wave. Rob that is a good idea. Sounds like you made 600 of these masks for frontline workers so far. I want to ask two things which how long does it take you to make each of these masks and how many more are you going to make . Start to finish maybe tweet 10 minutes. It is hard to do it in segments. I do one thing at a time, i so one edge and there are six pieces to it and this is what one looks like. This is the front of it and this is the back of it and this is the lower tip one and this is where you would put your n95 mask. This is the bigger one, they would put their protector inside here. And then you take your mask or your filter out and you wash this in hot water. Jillian what you are doing is fantastic. I certainly appreciate what you are doing, thank you, all labor of love.
