But we are able to, because of the weaponry and all of the things that we have in place, and were going to stay until such time as we have a deal or we have total victory. Pete one of the common sense arguments that we miss so often as we talk about politics or economics or other dynamics. You are saying the folks you are at yale with or graduate school with they have stable families and sometimes they dont realize how good they have got it . Yeah, thats exactly right. One of the things i noticed the difference between the people that i grew up with and the people that i went to college with, stark differences in their Family Structures i was born into poverty in los angeles. My dad abandoned us. My mother was addicted to drugs. I spent my childhood living in foster homes and attending military and attending yale. Every single one of my friends in yale grew up in a twoparent stable family. Dean talk to us about that. We are both parents here. For me im an adopted kid too. I understand where i might have gone not had my father not come into my life and gave me a strong hand. What is it that kept you on the straight and narrow then. I wasnt always on the straight and narrow to be honest. I wasnt a very good student. A lot of people like to hold the School System responsible for how children end up. The thing is like my schools werent that bad. My teachers were pretty dedicated to me and the other students and they urged me to apply myself. I just didnt have much supervision at home so i didnt do my homework or any of my assignments. I do think that the interest of the te teachers who might have played a very small role. The thing is i still have he had bad grades. It wasnt until i joined the military and had structure in my life that i wound up finding potential. Pete good for you. Whats your message to two parents homes or divorced homes. What else your message to fathers and mother as they invest to kids . Right. I want you to Pay Attention to your kids. Take an interest in them. And know that whatever goes on in the home is much more important than what goes on in school or what their teachers are other people are telling them. President trump is saying that talks with the taliban have resumed. The taliban is already pushing back saying that it is way too early to talk about that. President trump, of course, left for afghanistan in the middle of the night. The small grouch press traveling with the president said the lights inside air force one stayed off. The shades never opened. They flew for 13 hours. Landing on a pitch black tarmac at bagram airfield. Largest military base in afghanistan. President trump spent three and a half hours on the ground. He visited with the troops. Served them turkey he also met with the afghan president. That is where he talked about the allusive peace deal. The president knows what im saying. The taliban wants to make a deal. And were meeting with them. And were saying it has to be a ceasefire. They didnt want to do a ceasefire. But now they do want to do a ceasefire. I believe it will probably work out that way. But this morning the tall taliban refuted that telling it is way too early to talk about rums of talks for now. They will have a more official reaction later. For four you see President Trump arriving back in florida. We will see if he has any action to the new reaction we are getting this morning from the taliban once he makes his way off of air force one. Dean , nicole, pete . Pete the whole idea of peace talks is a tricky one. Where does this go . I dont know. No faithful partner on the afghan size. We can talk about the politics of afghanistan. We have done that for quite some time for almost two decades. Over thanksgiving, while you were enjoying your neil meal with your family appreciative and grateful for what we have in this country, the president jumped on air force one right there. He still hasnt gotten off the plane. He just landed in the United States. We are seeing them bring the stairway up to air force one. A long trip as the president said 8331 miles to bag gram air force base. Dean and back. Pete spending two and a half to three hours on the ground serving the troops thanksgiving additional. And giving a speech mental to boost morale. Nicole not only boost morale. Is he trying to do what the Obama Administration failed to do. He decried the afghani war as a dumb war. Political reasons. He kept pulling troops out. But what he failed to do was put an infrastructure in place for longterm stability of afghanistan. President trump has vowed to take troops from afghanistan. However, he appreciates and understands the fundamental need for a stable government there before we do that he is working on both sides. Is he bringing morale up for our troops by visiting them and really getting everyone feeling great on thanksgiving. He is also showing that he is committed to peace talks with the taliban. Unfortunately he will have to do that if we do want any sort of longterm success in afghanistan. Dean no matter what he does if he goes and visits the troops on thanksgiving, spends his thanksgiving flying and doing all of that serving the troops and doing whatever. People will try to secure him well i guess the original newsweek headline is he was golfing and hanging out and they had to quickly amend that people picking on him for not talking about the impeachment stuff while he is over there. They are doing he is over there to serve our troops and to say thank you. And to shine a light on this ever, ever going war. Nicole he could have used this gain 2020 election. Calling out democrats and not happening right now and impeachment inquiry. He did not do that he focused on a positive message and really just focused on our troops. Pete we are watching and waiting fort in the to emerge right down there in palm beach, florida. You mentioned obamas treatment in afghanistan. He surged there. But when he surged he told the enemy when we were going to leave at the same time. Which is ultimate morale booster. I was there in 2011 and 2012 as part of the backlash of that. If you have allies how are telling were behind you but then at the same time telling you only for a little ittybitty piece of time. Ultimately it undercuts your narrative why you are there. Taliban uses it effectively. President made it clear i dont want to be here indefinitely. Ultimately the taliban had an attack that killed many afghans in that process. Showing they are not serious about any sort of a ceasefire. President said fine, talks are off. We are done. I. A good deal not just any deal at all. Thats the afghanistan. You spend all this time and treasure in afghanistan going and tackling regime. Here we are this far later saying we just have to be there because we are there. He says thats not smart. What we need to do is kill the enemy, either totally destroy them or cut a deal that allows the afghans to do it themselves. It shouldnt be american boys to do this if we can extricate ourselves. You see him on the right side of that screen with the troops telling them i have got your back. Im trying to cut a deal with the taliban. No one wants to deal with the taliban. They are not good folks. We want to get you out of here. His reception as we saw photos other places in the media was warm across the board. Troops appreciate that he made this trip. He could have stayed cozy in florida or the white house. Instead he made the trip and showed the troops that he loves them. Nicole did he have turkey with the troops . He didnt have it at his own thanksgiving dinner. Pete i believe he sat down with the troops. He dug into his mashed potatoes first. Didnt hit the turkey the general said to him sir, we need to go over here and take photos. He bemoans that he went mashed potatoes first before having turkey. Nicole i like that plan. Dean i go mashed potatoes first. Pete i put mashed toe tatos. Stuffing. Nicole i future all together as a hodgepodge its amazing. Dean he is over there with our troops. Things people forget about this is americas longest wear. Thats shocking to me. Pete ever. Dean you dont hear it talked about. We are at war right now. Dont hear it talked about on a daily basis those men and women are over there. Great morale booster for the men and women over there. Pete of course it is. Pakistan has not been our friend across the border. The enemy has used that very effectively. We have had a Nato Alliance there, but were the i wore a nato patch on my shoulder when we were there we joked no, i wore an isaf patch. We joked we joked for i saw americans fighting. All these countries there standing for the Nato Alliance. Ultimately america carries of the burden of the fight. As we always do. Its not just us. Pete there is the president right now emerging with a keep America Great hat on. Thats senator barrasso who made the trip with him as well. Here they are arriving in florida descending down from air force one. We will track this and see if he make miss remarks to reporters. But, historic day coming back from the battlefield here on the day after thanksgiving. Dean thats after 26 hours of flying. And three and a half hours or four hours on the ground. Pete very much. So he will get in his motor said and head over to, i believe, maralago. Remember, this was all in secrecy. I learned about this yesterday at 2 00 in the middle of my thanksgiving dinner. Hey, the president is in afghanistan. What it takes to conceal a trip like this, you are removing cell phones from reporters who are in the pool. You are keeping a close hold inside the white house. You have got to detract. Have you got to basically conceal your movement for people that watch air travel around the world and then have you got to land safely in afghanistan, a hot zone and get to the base to speak with the troops. A big move, not just for the president but for his security detail, the secret service. Good on them. Nicole amount of detail and effort that went into this trip is uncanny and to be appreciated. I heard they took all internet devices from the airplane. Including the president himself. He didnt have access to the internet himself. Pete prescheduled his tweets so people would believe he is here. If its thanksgiving the president is probably tweeting. You can do that on twitter. Schedule the tweets so they scheduled it to make it look like he was doing that up stead he was on air force one delivering that meal. You e. He will be heading to maybe enjoy his own thanksgiving additional. Welldeserved landing all the way back from a trip to afghanistan. Nicole surprise visit to visit our troops. The president showed support for the troops comes as the recently fired Navy Secretary had scathing words for the commanderinchief. Todays surprise comes as the president faces blistering criticism from his fired Navy Secretary richard spencer. I think its notable that the president is not bringing those issues up. Reference any of the pardons that he issued for those three Service Members who were accused of war crimes or his interference in the case of eddie gallagher. Its his choice what he talks about or doesnt talk about. But to immediately pan and say look what the president didnt talk about. Its amazing he didnt. Slamming Donald Trumps role in criminal Justice Reform. Dean next poll may have democrats rethinking their criticism it will be here First Step Act. This is a fine first step, but, you know, thats like saying you just took a first step that you learn need to learn how to talk. Only bipartisan bills passed under this president are the ones i led. I will give him credit for signing the First Step Act. That doesnt mean that this presidency is good news for black americans. Pete 2020 democrats down playing the president s role in signing the First Step Act nearly one year ago working towards criminal Justice Reform. Our next guest says that is one of the most important issues to black voters in his community. Are the president s actions Strong Enough to get their vote in 2020. Here to discuss is executive director of unhyphenated America Christopher harris. Thank you so much for joining us this morning. Your organization did a poll. Unscientific necessarily. You a lot of folks in the black Community Says how important is criminal Justice Reform to you in philadelphia in particular. You got a big response. You said 30 of the folks you riched out to said its important. We have seen polling that has reflected that that almost a third of the black community is supportive of this president. So what do you say to his detractors . Hey, well, good morning, pete. Pete good morning, happy thanksgiving. Thank you. What i say to the detractors you should probably be a little scared. Because, here it is, we conducted polling in the metro philadelphia area. And this was all registered independents and democrats who are all black. And here we are in the city of brotherly love. This was an issue many of them were concerned. First of all, pete, this was not, oddly enough, the major concern. This is part of an ongoing effort by our organization along with our sister organizations Tea Party Community and the black sphere we were commissioned to find out whats the information. Whats the maybe misinformation thats taking place out there in the black community and a lot of concerned citizens out there. Our polling, our informal polling if you will has led us to believe that the information that we are helping to get out there, we feel like we are doing a lot to help lead the charge to get information out there. That information is reaching people. And were not just doing it here in philadelphia. That was one of the first places we chose. Over 10 different states and 15 different major metropolitan areas. Pete we have to get the word out. The media is never going to report it. Christopher, these couple of polls that we have seen recently that show support for President Trump and the black community as high as a third. A lot of people in the media are dismissing it. What do you say to people who dismiss those numbers . Well, i mean its easy to dismiss it when you are scared. And thats part of the problem there, pete. Its the misinformation out there. You know, im a christian, im always going to go back to my bible john 8 32 says when you know the truth, the truth will set you free. And so we feel like we need to get the truth out there. Get information out there because like everyone else, when black people are given the right information, we feel that they will make the right decisions. And the decisions they are making are leaning towards the fact that hey, this president is taking stepping to improve things for blacks.
