Before we were allowed to open the gifts he would make us go down and kneel down before the karesh. It seemed like his prayer was probably half annual hour. It was probably about 10 seconds or 30 seconds. That made a big difference. He was reminding us thats what counts. He got the baby jesus out of the nativity scene all the children of the church. Little obstructed there. Children with parents parading. You know, god could have come down to us in the form of a warrior angel and just scared the heck out of us. And make us say come on, get with thwith it guys. He didnt. Home alone. I grew up on these films and obviously you saw yesterday on the show we had that cool home alone piece where i went to the plaza hotel. Home alone 1 and 2 are two of my favorites of all time. When you go back and watch these they are more violent than i remember. What he does to joe pechy and daniel sisterinlaw is brutal. Lets take a look at one of the scenes from the first film that i love. Watch. This i will tell you what im going to give you, snakes. I do want to say for the record this is not a traditional Christmas Movie. Firemen kevin shae donated his kidney to california special Education Teacher lois knutson right here suffering from degenerative Kidney Disease that would soon kill her. She actually grew up in new york admiring firefighters and now one has saved her life. Her disease is hereditary so dangerous that she and her have elected not to have kids. If he did, quite frankly it, would be laughable for somebody in the truck party to try to take on this president. Senator flake is not just never trump. He is also never right. He talked about trump being on this path. As if he is on the wrong path. When i look at back at this year of 2017 and see economic. Gulf of mexico on the court southern border largely under control. Isis all but eliminated. What i see is a path to success. A path to victory. Now with these tax cuts done and codified heading into 2018, i think the economy is going to go into lift off mode. When you are investigating a president ial candidate, whether it be Hillary Clinton or President Trump, you have to be caesars wildfire, you have to be above reproach. Make sure not only there are no conflicts no perceived conflict. No bias but no perception of bias. He didnt pass that test. He gave his enemies, the other side, ammunition to go after him. And i think thats been a big problem with the mueller investigation. Whether there is actual bias or not, we will only know in the end. With you the perception of bias is there. And for democrats, weve had the same old tired leadership weve had for years, weve shown in the off year that the antidonald trump message works. You could take the state where ron is from where republicans had a 16seat majority and democrats came back and won an even race there just using donald trump. So i know my team, and theyre going to use this. And they probably wont go as far as impeachment, but they will use the residence movement to try to win a lot of elections next year. Let me let you weigh in on that because it seems to me the democrats havent fared so well on this resistance platform. Well, actually, i tend to agree with chuck in races that are even, its been really tough. And i do think the democrats are using this tenant trump sentiment to turn people out. I did help them in alabama. Thats why there are record numbers. But heres the thing. It doesnt have to be that way and i think if democrats run against the policies that trumps passing. If they run against tax cuts or run against the individual mandate, those things are not going to help them. So it has to be more than just fighting trumps policies. And heres the thing. Trump could do something about this. His approvals are in the 30s but his policies are much higher than that. If he shifted his communication strategy toward talking about his accomplishments, talking about what he wants to get done, talking about bipartisan, then he puts democrats on the defense because right now, the democrats really they should be working in a bipartisan fashion with trump because they agree with trump on infrastructure. They agree with him on some of the things on immigration. They agree on Childrens Health care. And so the question is are democrats going to abandon bipartisan, especially here during the Holiday Season, or are they going to do whats right and help the American People . Chuck, i see it in your head. Democrats, not a single one voted for obamacare or tax reform, what are we going to see . Bipartisan out of democrats . No. As long as you have donald trump in the white house, i dont think youll see a lot of bipartisan. Two one of my favorite republicans, he makes a great point. You want to put us into the corner . Look at me. Heres free advice on Christmas Morning. Get an infrastructure built through the congress. Make the democrats vote against the infrastructure bill. Try to really do something to fix these dreamer policy thats out there with all of these young kids. 20,000 of them that are Public School teachers. 10,000 that are in our military that you wanted to port. Make us do something. Make sure theres policies authoritative to vote against and then you can come out and say you have to do something other than have resistance. So, ron, you can respond to that but also, is it going to be immigration . What is the president if youre advising him going to be the next story were talking about . The next issue that he tackles . The next thing has to be infrastructure. After tax reform, which helps spur the economy, you also need economic development. And the way you do that is by rebuilding americas infrastructure, whether its our airports, which have fires in them now or bridges which are crumbling or new roads and new economic connections between cities and out to the rural areas that help our economy be more efficient. Help people get out of congestion. Help people get out to work quicker. That is exactly right. If what chuck said republicans want to put trump in the corner, thats exactly the way to go, and thats what i think this the is capable of doing and this party is capable of doing. But we video abandon the rhetoric that basically it makes more things divisive and instead of focusing on the positive policy agendas. All right. Guys, ten seconds. I know. So excited. You remember when i first got here, my mom was on doing our italian gravy. But now for christmas. We said its kind of late in the day. What are we going to do . So we came up with a christmas idea. If youre last minute, you havent made your cookies yet. These you can literally make in the time it takes to do the segment. And with that, were going to be quiet and let my wife amanda and mom marianne take over. Ill let you start. These are two of the easiest cookies youll ever make. For you. And if youre saying, well, christmas is here and, you know, i already made my cookies. Make them for new years. Make them for new years day or new years eve. The first one were going to make we call a snowball. And this is what they look like when theyre finished. And very easy ingredients. Lets get in there and make it. Okay. You take a stick of butter softened. Were just going to we do recollect has been it. The shuttering. Sugar first. Well, you need a big bowl. You need a big bowl. Were going to fake this for television. And you take a teaspoon of vanilla, you cream it, you add a cup of flower and this is what you will get. You infringement it for 15 minutes, and then heres the fun part. You take some into a ball, roll it in a ball. I do this all classily. This is what todd likes us. You put it in powdered sugar. Here we go. And then theyre ready to go. Well, you have to cook them. You have to bake then them. Its your recipe. They go in for 20 minutes. You can find the recipe on fox. Marianne peter, very important to learn how to make cookies. But what i really want to know is what was it like growing up. It was a trip. The first christmas this is the first grandchild, so, of course, he had every present. But he played with the box and tissue paper the whole day. Exactly. Now we have to go to the cookies. And my wife knows im a simple person. Were going to do these really quick. My motherinlaw is the one that bakes definitely. I dont have that gene. Im sorry. You knew that going in. So what you have to do is melt butter scotch. You have to be careful because im going to tell them our secret. We might have burned a little bit a couple of times over the years. This is really easy. All you have to do, melt the butter scotch, throw the chinese noodles in, then you have to use a little muscle so make sure that you get your holiday workout in. And then what you have to do is mix it around, and then you have to and, see, this is what i usually have you do. I usually call you into the kitchen and say can you just mix this for me . Yes. And todd was responsible for that aforementioned burning; right . I think he was. Yeah. I turned it on and walked away for half an hour. Completely burned butter scotch fan. And it ends up being a tradition. We can actually do this one. You know what . You can substitute things that if you dont have butter scotch, you can easily do chocolate chips. Ive had people message me on social media and say, hey, do it with peanut butter. So really, ill let you scoop it. Hes moving. Hes moving. These will literally harden in a few minutes. And until this little miracle arrived, i didnt have enough to cover the amount for the check i wrote. How can you avoid and stop stressing about holiday debt . Joining us now is financial expert stephanie oconnell. To build off of that, unfortunately, debt can be the gift that keeps on giving the whole year. You dont want that. But you say on Christmas Day, just chill out. Thats right. Its the Holiday Season. Lets focus on what really matters. Being with our friends and our family and giving back to our community. Tomorrow, we can start looking ahead at those new years resolutions and start making a plan for paying back that debt. But feeling guilty and stressed out is not the same as being proactive. So let those emotions go. Theyre not productive. Tomorrow, enjoy the day today. But then get on track towards paying down that debt and then also saving up for next year year. But part of this stress, stephanie, and you wrote a book called broken, beautiful life, which is very important. But a lot of the stress is you want to give the best gift and really the reality is youve got to spend money to do it. Because you want to get the right thing. Yeah. So if at the start of the Holiday Season you find yourself next year with a little bit less than you would like for all of the top of the line gifts that come out on black friday, well, make a reality assessment about what your resources really are. And then map it out. Who do you have to buy gifts for . How many gifts is that . And then how much do you have available to spend on each gift so you dont get trapped in that high expectation holiday momentum. Youre not justifying my splurging to alleviate my stress. Help me out here. No, i am saying lets get grounded in the reality of our numbers. And then if we dont have that big of a budget, how can we approach the season in an alternative way . Can we volunteer as a family to give back to the Community Together . You know, weve talked about a lot about the real meaning of christmas. What about experiences . Or should you be racking up debt on your credit cards . Well, sometimes we rack up debt on our credit cards to a forward experience. So we have to be careful, you know . We dont want to spend money we dont have. And actually using cash in place of credit can be a great way to help limit ourselves to be within our means. Because when were dealing with cash, we have something tangible. So we cant spend cash we dont have. And if youre looking at next Holiday Season and maybe trying to avoid the debt you have this season, well, maybe you you take out your full budget in cash so that when you run out, keep spending it. Did you see a few segments ago i had my family on, i gave my youngest daughter two taylor swift tickets. So i have already failed that as well. I will say experiences are great gifts when you can afford them, of course. Because they appreciate in value over time. Your memory grows fonder and fonder of those experiences, as opposed to stuff. As soon as you get stuff, it starts losing value immediately. So you gave great advice for next year. But lets say people have used their credit cards thus far. Were going into 2018. You say you need to pay off the high interest debt first. Then focus on the other stuff. Thats right. So if you took out credit card debt, thats probably going to be your highest interest debt. Though, dont assume anything. Actually look up all of the debts you took out, look up their balances, look up their interest rates. And then prioritize by highest interest rate. If you took out a personal loan that might have a lower interest rate. So start with your credit cards, then go into the personal loan if you took out an actual personal loan meaning from a friend or Family Member. Maybe theyre nice or gave it to you interest free. That doesnt mean you should pay it back. But that means they should be lower on the list of priorities. But it also can be in some ways extra challenging because were so busy with our families. Theres so much going on. And thats hard enough for us and stressful enough for us. But it can be even more so for animals who are just coming into the home. So make sure to give your new puppy or adult dog a private area where they can go rest. That could be a room or a crate. And you want to make sure that when you introduce them to people, you do it really gradually. So Everyone Wants to swarm the puppy. But that can be overwhelming. So you have to set boundaries and allow. So i dont want to mention their name because i dont want to ruin any surprises we might be having. But someone very close to me got a puppy for christmas. Very cute and the children are young. Theres three children all under the age of 10 like 10, 7, and 5, maybe. Talk just a little bit about, you know, parents introducing the puppy and not sort of overreacting with the brandnew puppy. Yeah. So, you know, you see these cute videos online of, like, the kids squealing and screaming and you dont want to tap their enthusiasm because theyre excited. But you do need to realize that thats the first reaction the puppy is getting of the family and you dont want them to be overwhelmed. So the first thing you could do is right away give the puppies something to do with their time so that they have a positive interaction. Like food toys are great. And so you can give them toys like the ones i have here on the floor that are really engaging for puppies. You fill them with food so that they get to play with them like you see here. And then the nice thing about that is that the puppy is developing a positive association with the new family because theyre playing with as to toys, and theyre having a good time. My sisterinlaw and her fiance just adopted a rescue dog. About seven years old. So when youre adopting an older dog, what are the tips. Well, even more so. Because you have a dog whose whole world has been turned upside down. Youre coming from one experience, one family to possibly a shelter which can be very traumatizing and then it can take them time to adjust. So same thing with puttys. Really say to yourself if you were being plopped down in a new country, and you were trying to get readjusted, wouldnt you like it for people to take it easy with you and adjust gradually . They really do try to bring in the kids and know the real meaning of christmas behind everything. Not just the presents. Although theyre awesome. That kind of love needs to be a positive message for those waking up to four feet of snow in some parts of the u. S. Adam, who is waking up to four feet of snow and freezing christmas . Folks in the great lakes are waking up to a ton of snow. The cold weather will be nationwide. There is just a huge arctic air mass moving from canada settling in. These temperatures have been plummeting in the last 24 hours. You look at 0 in chicago. The windchill 4 in cleveland. Negative 37 in fargo. If i can take you to that area youre looking at a ton of really chilly temperatures everywhere getting down into the negative 15 to negative 20 range when you get into the upper plains and areas along the great lakes. There are areas where were tracking snow. Dry in the cold area. If you track you off to the east you look at snow falling in the midatlantic. New england is where well see the heaviest snowfall. Everything you are looking at in the pink is a winter storm warning. When you get into areas of maine well talk about spots where you get as much as a foot of snow and there will be areas this is our forecasted snowfall off the great lakes where you could see isolated areas, two, three, yes, guys, four feet of snow. Frigid temperatures out there. A lot of folks may not get their snow but the cold. The worst part. The United Nations is cutting 285 million from next years budget. A goal of the Trump Administration has been reducing u. S. Contributions to the organization. Which total upwards of 3 billion a year. It is something ive always wanted to do and i am just so fulfilled. Ive been teaching special ed. For 37 years and my kids and their families just mean everything to me. This story is so incredible.
