We have two other hurricanes we are monitoring, jose katea in the gulf of mexico. Both of those storms not going to impact the u. S. Right now. Last 12 hours thankfully the worst of the storm, the worst of the winds and the rain in the storm surge just went north of puerto rico. Thats great news for them. The Dominican Republic also haiti watching the storm very carefully. There you can see the eye right now, still a category 5 storm. The fact that we have seen this strength last for days is unprecedented. And it is just a monster. Have you the buzz saw look right here. All four quadrants are filled out a lot of warm water ahead of this. Not much to tear this storm apart as it moves towards the turks and caicos and juan pablos. Very concerned for low lying islands. They are going to potentially be devastated. Here is your future radar again going to turks, caicos, bahamas. And then we watch south florida and the keys. Thats when things get a little bit interesting because the computer models dont quite know what to do does the trough pick up this storm . What is the timing on the trough . Is the High Pressure in the atlantic very strong . Some of those questions still yet to be determined. So very good agreement as we head out to saturday, sunday, obviously coming too close to comfort tore key west, the keys, south florida. Watch these computer models, guys, very good agreement as we get into saturday sunday. But then there is a huge spread and thats why that cone of uncertainty goes up the state of florida. Now we have to watch georgia and the carolinas, in this storm stays offshore it doesnt get torn apart and we could potentially be dealing with a major hurricane for the southeast coast. The president overruled his treasury secretary and the cop congressional leadership on the republican side who wanted a debt ceiling increase and fund the government and to get 8 billion for harvey. They wanted it to go the limits to go past next years midterm election. Pete they want to kick it all the way down. Steve democrats wanted three months. The president not wanting a fight apparently said thats the deal im going to take right now because we have tax reform and other stuff wee have got to do right now. Ainsley good for them. Doing it for the folks affected by harvey. I remember originally he was going to give 5. 95 billion to the folks in texas. And then we had i think Chris Christie on the couch on one leader, another governor who said thats not enough money. He needs to give more. Now giving 8 billion to help those families and its great. Pete some conservatives are upset because they want. Steve big time. Pete this is a clear shot at Mitch Mcconnell and paul ryan. Hey, guys, if you cant get things done, then, listen, i will work with the democrats and work with things like raising the debt ceiling and the continuing resolution to fund the government and irma. Clear out the underbrush of this stuff that could be contentious that washington likes to fight about. Clear the deck to fight for the stuff that really matters. Interestingly enough, history has been broken with this storm. It was category 5 storm with 185 mileperhour sustained winds for 33 hours. That has never happened in any basin across the world. So thats how intense this storm is. So its at 180 mileperhour sustained winds right now. Still maintaining a very formidable hurricane as it continues to sort of skirt puerto rico, haiti, Dominican Republic, cuba as well. But the bahamas, turks and caicos going to take a direct hit from this storm. Once it gets to south florida, thats where we get a few question marks. Will it go across the state of florida . Will it curve and hug the state of florida and perhaps make a landfall across the southeast . All of these questions still yet to be determined, so, i want to make sure folks in florida and the southeast are listening to their local authorities. And they are certainly taking all the warnings seriously. Steve as we look at that irmas steering map right there thats that big h the bermuda high thats a whats pushing it toward florida. Janice thats the main steering right now. Right now we have cold front and crof going to come across the eastern u. S. The timing how that will pick it up and you have to strong it will be is going to determine where this storm makes that strong righthand curve. And thats why this is so hard to predict. There is a chance it doesnt even hit florida. I dont want people to take their eye off the storm there is a chance it hugs the coast and makes landfall across the southeast. Pete if you are the governor and trying to determine whether people should stay and evacuate and where they should go. How far do you make that call snowing the storm is going to steer and turn . Janice florida right now is the in the path. When we get up towards the carolinas. People need to take this seriously. Ainsley good thing is they have time. August the flights are taken. So they have plans to drive now up to South Carolina or up to georgia. Catch a flight there and then head back to new york. Ainsley i would imagine as a mother one of the harvardest things about losing your child is not being there when they die and not being able to say goodbye. Does this bring you some solace . Yes. Really most of all and we are so proud of him for his actions and what he chose to do that day, but, to me, the greater, if you can even say happiness in this story which there really isnt, there is a lot of wonderfulness in this story, but when we learned that he was able to actually make his choices that day, on how he could be, and that he chose to do what he did, that he had that freedom. As we look at the Hurricane Irma track its hard to tell whether or not its going to go up the east coast right up through the center part of florida or up the west coast. So youre planning for all three. What is the very latest . So, any time you sigh the forecast track in the air cone. When the center of circulation travels inside that air cone is a good forecast. The message is to pinpoint where it ask going to make landfall is nearly impossible. The states of florida, georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina all need to be monitoring this closely. We are already in good communication with all of those states and working with them to be prepared. Ainsley brock, what is the president s response to this . Have you talked to him . Yeah. Im actually scheduled to talk to him today. The Vice President is actually coming to fema today. I do know that the president has been in Clear Communication with Governor Scott and other governors within the islands as well. Just like we had in harvey, the president stands ready to support disaster declaration requests and communication lines are open and he has given me the authority i need to move forward. Pete brock, you just mentioned harvey. Obviously strong winds there. The real threat is the water and what need to be prepared. Whats the story of irma that people on the ground need to be prepared of. We are hearing of catastrophic winds. Is water a big concern as well . So harvey is a completely different storm. I mean, it was a rappedly intensifying storm that did bring category 4 winds for a small duration for the texas coast but then lost steering current for the next five to six days which means Copious Amounts of rainfall. Irma has good steering current. Its moving at 17, 18 miles per hour. So right now the major hazard that people are going to see that we evacuate them for is coastal flood unnun accommodation. Basically wind driven water coming up on shore, knocking houses down. Steve so you mentioned the fact that along the coast, some folks are being evacuated at any point do you suspect, brock, they could order an evacuation of south florida where people would have to get in their cars and drive north . Yes. Some of those evacuations are already occurring. So the key here is that local you know, local officials and the governor of florida will be providing warning order throughout the day to citizens. They need to heed those. Fema does not make evacuation decisions. The goal is get out of a storm surge area and into a facility that can withstand the winds. Thats the goal. Steve okay. Pete brock, as we look at this storm this comes on the heels of harvey as well. Give us update on whats happening on the ground there in texas. On harvey . So we have established recovery commands. We have registered well over 600,000 people in support of individual assistance trying to provide them a bridge to recovery. Again, we cant make them whole, but we are providing services and funding to individuals that qualify through our systems to help them out. The other thing that we are doing is racing to pick up debris and we are also trying to get people into livable situations. We have placed thousands of families into hotels over the last few days and we have got a lot of work to do to continue to do that. Steve brock, i saw one story from one of the south florida newspapers about how throw are two nuke plants down there in the cone of uncertainty right now, turkey point and st. Lucie as well. Whats the concern regarding them . Well, obviously, we dont want them to come off line. We are working closely with the department of energy. Working with them very closely and monitoring the situation. And as you can see behind me, this is the entire federal government workforce, you know, at work, trying to circumvent issues like that. And if there was any issues, we would be putting it out to the citizens as quickly as we can right now i think we are good. He went around the Republican Leadership to their dismay. Senator Heidi Heitcamp went on the plane. Says she need wants to work with him she needs to know whats in the plan. Thats where the democrats are they are willing to work with the president on things that make sense on infrastructure there is no plan. Even on rhetoric talking about the campaign about the tax plan. The rhetoric is very populist. The rhetoric is very much about the regular person, the little guy. Unfortunately what he has rolled out in his tax plan so far is primarily cuts at the top both for corporations and for individuals. So, if the details dont match it, thats not what democrats will work with him on. If he goes back to where the rhetoric is, i think definitely a chance. Pete i called the democrats under this administration willing to work with President Trump unicorns. That rare to see that they are willing to work with him. Do you think this is much a slap at congressional leadership, paul ryan and your former boss Mitch Mcconnell they arent willing to get things done. If you wont do it i will reach out to these guys. I think the way is he talking about that and the way that he is delivering in north dakota makes it extremely difficult for somebody like senator heitcamp to oppose. This president really wants the wall. So coo there be a simple deal of we will give you your wall if you give us our dockca. Is that possible . Could democrats do that . Not that deal in specific. Yes, absolutely. At this point in time you will not get any Insurance Company thats going to acknowledge any type of coverage for this type of thing. One thing that makes this a little different than texas is wind. Because in this situation youre going to have a lot of wind damage which gets involved. There is no easy answer to these questions. But this is going to be handled differently than what happened down in texas. Ainsley all right. Steve and i were talking during the commercial break. He brought up a good point. Hurricane insurance is you get that and that covers anything from water from the top down. Like if there is a lot of rain and your house is damaged you are covered under hurricane insurance. Right. Ainsley Flood Insurance he said will not cover that type of damage. Covers the damage from the water rising from the bottom up. Steve water surge. Ainsley do you need both hurricane insurance and Flood Insurance . If you could afford it and i think in most cases they are affordable, the answer is yes. But what we learned from all of this is most of us dont really know what is covered in the insurance we have. And if and some underwriters, by the way, if you live in coastal areas, they will exclude like we talked the other day in texas, they will exclude certain type of coverage. So its very important that if you buy hurricane, Flood Insurance, that you ask your agent to explain to you exactly what it covers like steve is talking about the surge, versus the rain from the top down.
