He was assassinated as the president and there were scenes from the president ial funeral. This movie was premiered at the toronto film festival. It was reviewed nut New York Times, the Washington Post there was a mainstream thing. There was also a novel in 2004 that depicted some characters who were discussing assassinating george w. Bush. It, too was reviewed in all of the respectable journals. And i do want to mention one more thing. There was a new york state official in 2006 who was giving a College Commencement address and part of that as part of that address he was praising senator charles schumer. Way of praising senator schumer was to call him quote the man who how do i phrase it diplomatically who will put a bullet between the president s eyes if he could get away with it he later had to apologize for saying that. Heres the question. What is it with the lefts obsession with bringing harm to a republican president . Well, i think in this case, what were seeing is an extension, this case meaning today with donald trump, kind of an extension of the desire to censor and to deplatform and to deny a place in society. Thats what we saw with the harassment of Kirstjen Nielsen at a restaurant here in washington. What we saw with the treatment of Sarah Huckabee sanders at a restaurant in lexington, virginia. A sense that on the left that if you, as a trump supporter or trump official are supporting these terrible policies, then you have no place in society. Not really a big step to then to advocate violence. Griff do you feel like there was at least some line, even with the examples you cited under george w. Bush his term that now we sort of crossed the line that the left is not going to worry about even trying to remain remotely close to in their depictions of President Trump . Well, i think there actually is still a line. I mean, if you look at the Kathy Griffin thing, that was pretty horrendous. But, she actually suffered a lot of blow back from that. And, by the way after these independents in the restaurants i was talking about seems to have quieted down. I do think there is a number of Democratic Leaders who would like to win congress in november and dont want to be associated with that kind of stuff because it does turn people off. Obviously it turns Trump Supporters off. It turns independents off and turns probably most democrats who believe in civil behavior just nut public at large. So, is this a democratic double standard . Lets ask Alan Dershowitz, a lifelong democrat, a harvard law Professor Emeritus and author of the book the case against impeaching trump. Let me remind our viewers, professor, that it was tony podesta who, along with Paul Manafort, in that firm, was also involved in lobbying on behalf of ukrainian interests in the United States without properly registering. So, if pau Paul Manafort did something wrong, so did tony podesta. Yet, tony podesta is getting immunity to testify against Paul Manafort. Why . Well, as i used to teach my students at Harvard Law School in criminal law, if you are going to commit a crime in america, always commit a crime with someone more important than you are. So they will give you immunity and you can flip against them and they cant flip against you. The special counsel is not interested either in podesta or in manafort. They are interested in President Trump. And what they want to do is put as much pressure as possible on manafort because he was closer to trump being the Campaign Aide for a while. And they want to squeeze him. And as judge ellis said, who is an objective assessor in the situation. Prosecutors not only sometimes try to make these flip witnesses sing. They try to make them compose. They try to make them elaborate and make the story better because, you know that the better the story the better the deal. So, again, manafort is not the object of this prosecution. He and podesta are both means. Its a domino theory. You knock one down, he will knock the other down and ultimately you get to your real target. Thats what is so dangerous about this process. Pete of course. This is all about trump. You know you say commit a crime with someone more important than you. I dont know, tony podesta, brother of john podesta, Campaign Chairman of Hillary Clinton is a pretty important guy. So, wouldnt we want justice for him as well . And is immunity really required here or could they just push for answers . Well, first of all, you can get pruitted even though you have immunity. Use immunity not transactional immunity. Cant use the evidence against you they can prosecute. They probably wont. In the end, they will try to squeeze both of them. You say he was offered immunity. Being offered immunity is like being offered a disease. Nobody really wants to get immunity because it puts new a position where you have to testify against people you like. Youre not offered it you get it. Its imposed on you. Its not generally a gift. And so, i think that the goal here is to try to put a lot of pressure on manafort and his family and his friends and if he were to flip, if man ford were to say to the prosecution, im on your side, all the pressure would be off. And the worst thing about this is that the collateral damage, they go after people who themselves, you know, may not have done anything terribly serious, Campaign Violation laws arent prosecuted all the time. The goal is to squeeze, squeeze, squeeze, to point upward and to point the arrow of prosecution at the person who is the real target. Thats whats wrong with special counsel. They have targets. And if they dont get their target, they have failed. Pete we know though he had are targeting, professor we only have a couple seconds left. Have you watched this unfold collusion for months. Were doing everything that we can to get the truth out and shows like this are helping us, and we appreciate that. I think thats the best thing that we can do is to tell the public the truth as we always have to try to maintain the relationships based on trust as we always have. And to try to be consistent in a time that its very difficult to be that person. Griff detective, i want to ask you, i remember covering tragically here when officers wynn and lu were killed here in new york. Do you feel like that are political discourse there are other factors making this war on cops worst and how do we get past that. It seems like there is just a giant war on our Police Officers now like we are a giant target. These officers are out there saving lives, protecting people and they are being ambushed and they are being murdered for no other reason than the uniform that they are wearing, the color of their uniform. It doesnt matter who you are, what race, nationality, cops are from all over. And, its all about the uniform. Its all about what you are wearing. Its really sad because as a Police Officer for 20 years i never worried about myself. I was out there trying to do what i could. I never really worried about my own safety. Griff yep. N. Sanctions through going over the petroleum caps to north korea. They were doing this via method called ship to ship transfers. Thats basically illegally getting more petroleum than is allowed under the north korean sanctions requirement. We had three different sanctions that were pushed at the u. N. Under nikki haley. Under Ambassador Haley and these sanctions are what many credit bringing north korea to the table to have these discussions, to have the summit that we saw also famously watched. Thats where we are. The United States called out china and russia yesterday for violating sanctions. And called on the Security Council to be more tough with the North Koreans if these talks are going to succeed. These are some of the harshest sanctions that the world ever put against north korea that we saw at the United Nations. But, the key is the sanctions dont work if they are not being enforced. He made a really interesting point that chairman kims father identified military first policy. And this chairman kim is focused on an economic first policy for north korea. This Administration Policy that literally ripped babies from the arms of their mothers and father s, one of the darkest moments in our history. Not only is it a national shame.
