These are scandals that the president first acknowledged but this week, this past week on three separate occasions, the president has used the word firestone scandal when you hear something from the president s how repeatedly that is verbatim what he said the day before or day before. Can you pretty much guess that is a new talking point that the media managers in the white house has come up with. Mike tries to reset the narrative from the economy and getting away from the scandals. Very dangerous to call certain of these scandals phony. Economic speech growth from the middle out sounds like a weight loss plan. When media managers decided thousand fix the rest of this administration and Going Forward for the remaining years of his administration we have got to turn our attention away from these scandals and refocus the economy. As you know, it was one the president s campaign plans, promises during his first run that he would close guantanamo. That proved harder than he thought once he got into office. But now this is apparently redoubling of the effort to try to make some progress on gitmo. So they chose algeria because they say that country has a proven track record of not allowing gitmo detainees to go back to the battlefield. There is incredible recidivism rate of those who it do return to the battlefield, Something Like 28 released do go back. Confirmed reengaging 97 out of the 600 detainees transferred and suspected of reengaging in addition to 97. 72 others are suspected so that makes 28 of detainees who they think have gone back to battle. They are joining sort of a list of greying a growing list of unions that have come out who supported the bill before who have now come out and said they dont support it anymore. Kind of a growing list of hypocritical unions in my opinion. A reporter for the free beacon had an article about this a few weeks ago. He spoke with a policy expert who explained essentially whats happened is unions initially supported obama care despite having things with like you will remember the cadillac tax because they hoped they would get exemptions later on for their own particular plan. Now that they dont see that happening they are critical of it unions going against what they originally supported as well as the fact its from the irs an Organization Going to implement such large parts of new Healthcare Plan. Alisyn eye reason of that is rich. President obama selling the Affordable Care act says if you like your Healthcare Plan, can you stick with it no changes. And what is sounds like they are saying in that letter is we do like our current plan. We like our plan. We dont want any changes. Why are you forcing us to change . Right. And thats the exact same argument that the Electrical Workers Union put out an ad that they ran just a couple weeks ago and criticize this as well. This is a big problem for the Obama Administration its a lot of set backs that they have h it is hypocritical and instance where they expected to get exemptions and they didnt and now they have sort of changed their mind. They were fine if the rest of the population and other citizens got these things where they didnt get where they didnt have like a perfect Healthcare Plan now they realized its going to it effect their own they dont like it. Certainly interesting and an additional set back that we have seen with obama care. They are having quite a few issues and going to have some more, i think as they roll out. This is the latest the Navigator Program where they are going to be hiring new people to support obama dare and sign up come october. Lay. Clayton up wards of 28,000 people making 48 to promote the Navigator Program you talked about. Is it too harsh or uneducated about what was in this massive healthcare law. They were out there trumping this up and campaigning basically on its behalf these unions were telling people to vote for it, get behind it you say hypocrisy, is it that or do they simply not know what was in this thing . I think there is an argument to say that maybe they didnt understand it entirely. You are right it is a very complex bill. But i would propose that they shouldnt have gone out and so actively campaigned and supported something that he this didnt understand. Thats a whole different problem. Not only were they i mean, they were incredibly instrumental in passing. I dont know if it would have passed if the unions hadnt supported it. Criticism hypocritical. Politically motivated to support it i dont think hypocrisy is necessarily too strong in this situation because if they didnt understand it they really shouldnt have been out there advocating for it clay clay great point. Now we know more information that these folks working in the doj were told to keep quiet. They had to sign confidentiality agreements. Mike some of these agreements will be lessened if it seemed as if, if it seemed to us that they were looking into it more carefully and more aggressively. The irs obviously Public Opinion polls show americans do not think that the irs targeting conservatives is phony. That worries them. Mike phoney in may we have got to get to the bottom of this. She though pins some of the responsibility and accountability on the Mainstream Media listen. Like the stall play in basketball game. They are hogging the ball and its unproductive and its cowardly and nothing good is going to come from this. And what happens during a stall play is the crowd, they get up and leave. The evening news only has 22 minutes of air time at night. The fact that they did 6 stories certainly shows they were not ignoring the irs scandal. That one has been covered a lot. By the way they went on to cover it subsequently and 32 more times. 11 more times after that. So you cant accuse them of completely side stepping. Mike over the last couple of days i heard anchors saying on other networks, using the same term socalled scandals. Put that into the copy. Alisyn which ones were they talking about . Irs . They dont think thats a scandal targeting particular political leaning . Clayton there has been 11 stories over the course of nearly two weeks on some of the networks that havent talked about anything, irs, the nsa scandal or benghazi. What was that scroll rolled out there into the grass and what were you hoping to accomplish with it . Very unique. The significance of getting a thousand special operations veterans to sign on a to a political petition to sign on to benghazi. Almost unheard of. These men serve in silence and quietly. They dont get political for the most part this community is fired up over the events and coverup of benghazi. Clayton what answers are you looking for. What we are looking for is 218 signatures on the discharge petition that Steve Stockman just submitted or one speaker of the house to come to his senses and form a select committee. Clayton find who knew what when . Who gave the orders . Who ordered the stand down measure and why were these individuals being told to keep quiet so long after the benghazi attack . Am i right . Absolutely. You know. The president says its a phony scandal, i actually think he misspoke. What he meant to say its a felony scandal. If there was no coverup, why are they muz ling the survivors. Why are they muz ling the witnesses. Why are he they muz ling the people at the state i want people to understand the need. Why we need a select committee. Why the Oversight Committee and these other committees are do not have the power in order to get to the truth. The overnight committee, if you recall back what happened fast and furious, all the brian terry got were a bunch of redacted documents. They didnt get to the truth. The reason for it is the Oversight Committee does not have the power to subpoena intelligence nor does the Oversight Committee have the members with the necessary clearance to read the documents which is why they came over redacted as they did. Are you troubled by perhaps the lack of interest from the American People on this issue and maybe the media is to blame on this. Shear recent fox news poll. I want you to comment on this. How closely are americans following news on benghazi . Now, 22 say they are focusing on it. Somewhat, 37 . 40 of people say they are not really interested. That is down from a month ago. 40 of the American People dont watch fox news. They watch cnn and msnbc. Thats the reason. They are not covering it. But, the people who are covering it are very, very concerned. Especially want members of the Armed Services community. The men and women who are out there fighting our battle. They want to know why why americans were left behind. They are promised by their superiors and they are promised by america to not be left behind. Let me explain something. So when they say that, you know, its essential that we get to the bottom of this, its not only for the truth and for the family and for the fallen. It was splattered on the chairs leg chair and the base. Meanwhile u. S. Police are combing through Surveillance Video of the vandal or the vandals who defaced the memorial on friday. They are seeking for those involved. Although they have no suspects at this time. U. S. Park police did release a statement and in part it reads this type of reprehensible act is unfortunate but it did not permanently damage the memorial. We are fortunate that this deplorable act can be remedied but we caution that we are lucky this wasnt an act of terrorism. Many visitors young and old were disappointed to find the yellow taped wrapped around the iconic statue on friday. We were just here a night before with our family. And saw the beautiful memorial at night and to hear the next day that it had been vandalized or paint was on it was very disappointing. In the u. S. We have so much freedom to express ourselves that people just can respect that value. That memorial did remain closed for the the half of yesterday while investigators took photos and police dog sniffed the property looking for any type of a trail that the suspects may have left. The National Park service said although vandalism across parks in the nation may not be completely unusual, it is the first time that the Lincoln Memorial has been vandalized since its dedication back in 1922. Eric holders position that he is going to go ahead and force texas to go through preemptive clearance on anything involving voting is really a slap. Not just at texas and he may have i could the wrong state to mess with also a slap at the Supreme Court. I dont even understand where the chief Law Enforcement officer of the land comesoff thinking that he can just make up his own law. And attorney general made a great point. If you are going to take legal action against state. How do you announce you announce it when you notify the state and go to court. What did he do . Makes a big speech at the urban league. He doesnt go through the proper protocol and channels to announce an action like that. I thought it was a significant comment. Alisyn we had Geraldo Rivera on yesterday. How he interpreted. Guess what, i dont really need the Voting Rights act because i have the constitution. The constitution says that there is one vote, one person i will uphold the constitution. If i see somebody doing something unconstitutional uphold it. Its wrong for this reason. The courts can find no evidence that there was widespread wholesale absolute preemptive harm being done to voters in these states. These states have been now for 40 years, 50 years, 50 years under this rule that they had to say mother may i before they could get anything done with voters. Because that is no longer the case, heres the point. If you think that there is a problem, you still have the opportunity to sue. You still have opportunity to get redress in the courts, but you have to take the action, the presumption of innocence rather than the presumption of guilt. That is constitutional, too. When i boarded the train there were over 20 cars. I believe we may have left some of them at another station. I dont know how many were in front of me. Clayton we understand it was going way too fast around that curve. Did you notice anything different at the time . Its moving so fast. Hundreds of miles an hour did. You notice anything odd as it was heading into that turn or other turns throughout the day . Well, yes. So, there is a little screen on both ends of each car that gives like the time, the temperature, the destination and the speed. And for most of the ride it had been about 100kilo meters per hour. Just like before maybe one minute before the crash, i looked up at it and i thought it said 194kilometers per hour. But my eyesight is not the best and the sun was kind of shining off of it and i was writing in my journal. It didnt feel thatch faster. I didnt pay that much attention to it. So i thought that must be 109 not 194. It may have really been 194. Alisyn they say it was going twice the legal limit. Whats watt experience when it crashed . We had gone around a few sharp curves before hand with no problems. We hit this one wheels lift off kind of a roller coaster we were only on one set of wheels, it was like that for no more than two seconds. There wasnt time to be scared. I didnt even think we must be crashing, answer then for about half a second luggage started falling out of the wracks up above it people started falling out of the seats, you could feel the other set of wheels hit the tracks. I blacked out before we hit the ground. How are you by the way . Im doing very well given the circumstances. Im in a neck brace but nothing that wont heal. Clayton people around you . What is watt scene like right around you . Before or after . Mike yeah. After i thought i was in a dream. My car ripped apart from one of the cars next to it. I was able to be helped out through a door which at that point was basically a hole in the car. I was one of the first people that got out. I thought i was a sleep for few minutes. They helped me out on to a bank of dirt nearby. After a couple minutes they started helping more people out i began to realize i think this is real. Everyone was covered in blood. Everyone was crying. Everyone was screaming. I had had a concussion so i wasnt thinking the most clearly. I just begun to realize this is all of the. This is horrible. I understand this is the not the first time you have dealt with death. You had cancer . Yeah. Mike tell me about it it . Was three years ago. Ilikeed death many times when i thought i was going to die. A miracle pulled thrumple. Im very grateful. Alisyn what is your take away from this now that you have survived twice. Does it give you a new lease on life. Yes and no. I think people should try to be the best person they can be whether they have had a near death experience or not. It does drive home the point to me i really dont know for sure. I could die tomorrow and if i do i want to be happy with the life i live today. Mike are you a god living man. Well, in 2010, i was president of my trade association, the Texas Restaurant association. And part of our responsibility was to track legislation through the state house or through congress to see assess its impact on our industry. Needless to say the Affordable Healthcare Act was the big gorilla in the room. 10,000 pages of confusion. Months before anyone in Congress Even read through the entire law. I did the math real quick and easy. And the penalty for noncompliance and it was called a penalty at that time, were thousands of dollars more than what we made out of the business. The only hope that we had lied in the responsibility of the Supreme Court and when the Supreme Court ratified the employer mandate, the clock began ticking for me. Clayton so then you had to close two of your cici pizza franchises. And you are about to sell your third or you have done that already . Well, we sold two in october to make sure that we got below the 50 employees, and now the third is being sold to my son. He wants to be an entrepreneur himself. Clayton thats remarkable. The Obama Administration must have had some sort of a summit at camp david or something where they sat down and said, you know what . We need to get back on track. Come up with a line that will get us reset the narrative back to the economy or something besides scandals. What is the line we could write . Apparently somebody came up with the word phony. Phony scandals, the invoked that phrase three times in the past week including this during his saturday morning address today. Over the past couple years in particular, washington has taken its eye off the ball, an endless parade of distractions and political posturing and phony scandals, shift focus from what needs to be done. As washington prepares to enter another budget debate, the stakes could not be higher. The choices we make now will determine whether or not every america has a fighting chance in the 21st century. Also trying to shift to the economy and talking about the new planned growth, from the middle out. Thats one of the lines they came up with, growth from the middle out which sounds like some sort of reverse weight loss plan, not the smartest marketing. Everybody is talking about what the president is saying. Which ones are phony scandals . Does he thinks its benghazi, the nsa surveillance, the department of justice going after reports . It cant be benghazi because people died. Agreed. They havent said its not benghazi. So its unclear exactly what the president is referring to. Governor Mike Huckabee was on the show earlier this morning tackling that exact question. Which of these scandals are phony . Listen. The phoniness is im really focused like a laser. This is a president who needs to get his laser fixed. For five years hes going to focus like a laser on the economy. Then he goes off on gay marriage, on Trayvon Martin. He goes off always on something other than the economy, obama care. He gives an hour and six minute speech which god bless those poor people who had to sit behind him and hear the same rhetoric that was word for word what he was saying when he campaigned five years ago. Meanwhile, as you know, the Affordable Care act is under fire from some groups who say they wont be able to implement it. The organization that is supposed to be the watch dog of implementation is the irs. Something amazing is happening. The irs the union that governs irs employees has urged its members, meaning irs workers to write to their Congress People to say that they should not be held to obama care they like their current plan. They want to keep their current plan. But that is what was promised. Thats exactly what the president promised. You get to keep your plan. You get to keep your plan. We asked this question earlier on the show to an individual who was saying, look, this is ridiculous because they were out there selling this information. The irs. The unions were, not just the irs unions. They were selling and lobbying on behalf of the administration for this. The irs is the watch dog of obama care. Thats whats so ironic. Theres a scene playing across the country, hundreds of times a day, a secret Service Agent, military official, fbi agent getting ready to leave home to a crying daughter and upset wife or husband, getting ready to go to a hot zone or danger zone to put his life on the line for one of our bureaucrats or political elected officials. And to be left behind and to break that sacred promise that the cavalry was going to come and rescue you when you needed it is an absolute disgrace. Theres a degree of depravity in that that will take years for these folks to get past. Part of the cavalry is the foreign Emergency Support team. Why werent they called . Do you know if they were called and why didnt they get there sooner . Here is the irony about the foreign Emergency Support team. This is what they do. This is their charter, to respond to foreign emergencies when our diplomats need them overseas in times of crisis. For them to not respond is the equivalent of, god forbid something would happen to the president and the secret service not responding and saying we didnt know what was going on so we kind of waited it out. The team doesnt have to be told to respond. They only have to be told where to go. The fact that this doesnt bother people, that they did not respond and some bowtiewearing bureaucrat likely got in their way and said, no, theyll be okay, over an eighthour attack, is really almost sick. Whats interesting, too, what you said there, were losing interest in this story according to the polls. And there is an old technique called slow drip. You heard about that, dan . Of course, yeah. The slowdrip strategy is to make the American People to think anyone who continues to talk about this is a zealot. Theyre spending billions of dollars on an inhouse pentagon software plm that could be easily, easy bested and replicated by civilian companies, Companies Like google, companies that are in Sorrento Valley doing this all the time, can do it for a lot cheaper and do it a lot better than government workers. A couple weeks ago we had Major General Harold Greene along with an Army Sergeant on who said that for their money dsgs works well. They say its working just fine. The army is going to say what the army is ordered to say by higherup Army Generals and officials. They arent going to come out and say this bill eun Dollar Program doesnt work or is easily bested by an offtheshelf competitor made in palo alto or San Francisco where people do this every day and thats their job. The reality is that Government Programs cant compete with offtheshelf commercial programs, especially when it comes to software. We have the brightest minds in the world in Silicon Valley and in San Francisco doing these things for big companies, big banks, big corporations. Thats what we need to be using in the military. It would be a lot cheaper, a lot more effective and most importantly it will save lives on the ground in afghanistan. In fact, you tried to make the point to general odierno in one of the Committee Hearings you were holding. You ended up having a testy exchange. When i was a Division Commander in 2003 a Company Commander today with dcgs had 20 times the capability as what i had as a Division Commander in 2003.
