Our efforts in syria have been as much about our ability to stop the future isis attacks as it is about our ability to wheel power and influence in a region when we need it and we absolutely are going to need it again, we do not have the forces in the region with the ability to maintain pressure on isis, we have to do it through surrogate force and overnight we have taken the number one surrogates and weve shifted their efforts from our number one enemy and thats a major problem and i see two major longterm repercussions from all of this and just within the last week of this turkish invasion, the first one is isis prisoner problem and we see hundreds of them being broken out and on top of that we are learning that u. S. Special operations are getting out of the area so fast that they were unable to fulfill plans and remove 60high value isis prisoners out of syrian captivity and move them into their own own captivity and we need access to those prisoners, they provide us with valuable intelligence that allows counterterrorism units to do their job, the second major issue is that the iranians and russians have been pushing this narrative that we have a credibility problem at the u. S. Government is unworthy, untrust worthy, unreliable ally and we saw the kurdish commander basically have to make a deal with the assad regime to move syrian troops in the northeastern border and we are breaking alliances. Heather as you discuss that we can take a look at some of the elements thats going on there in terms of turkey and the kurds, you mentioned this just happened last night, the kurds striking the deal with assad but then that brings up the question, you know, are we there to prevent isis from escalating or are we there to protect the kurds and what is the longterm impact on the war on terror . Well, the longterm impact is that we now have basically two armies advancing on each other, the assad regime backed by Russian Forces moving troops in Northeast Area to repel turkish advance and then you have isis caught in between, right now isis is get back at what they do best, terrorism, cities liberated and there was isis problem before turkish invasion, the prisons were overcapacity, they were strained on resources and we are going to have a problem anyway but this is exacerbated that and cause more chaos from it.
