The new information is the storm is strengthening, continuing to strengthen as we get closer to landfall sometime this afternoon. The bottom line here is the panhandle of florida has never, ever experienced a storm like this in their history. We are going to be talking about catastrophic lifethreatening damage, storm surge, and Hurricane Force winds in excess of 140 Miles Per Hour floor a duration of several hours. So the latest update as of 5 00 a. M. , it is strengthening. It could strengthen even more as we get into the next couple hours as we approach landfall. The storm in the textbooks is a perfect looking hurricane. All four quadrants have filled out. Weve got a welldefined eyes. Theyre already seeing wind gusts in excess of 35 Miles Per Hour along the coast, 33 in apalachacola. Were expecting a landfall between 1 00 and 3 00, yet to be determined, but the strength of the storm is going to be unfortunately the legacy of it. Storm surge is going to be an issue. Tampa bay, were talking about 3 to 4 feet, but as we get up northward to horseshoe bay, fish creek, saint marks, we could have a storm surge up to 14 feet, that is above your homes in some cases. That is going to be extraordinarily dangerous. The storm surge, the water push is what kills the most people in these hurricanes. Flooding is going to be a big concern, 4 to 8 inches, isolated amounts of 12 inches plus. This is going to move north and eastward and could affect areas impacted by hurricane florence. This is a big deal. This is going to be going down in the history books for the panhandle of florida. Prayers right now are needed for them. Rob this popped up so fast and got strong so fast. The gulf of mexico waters are incredibly warm. Rob its a bathtub. It is a bathtub. Weve had a few days warning, but not enough. Jillian President Trump declaring a state of emergency in florida. Rob Griff Jenkins is live in Alligator Point where the storm is starting to pick up this morning and griff, youre in a pretty vulnerable position there on that peninsula sticking out in the gulf. Hows it looking . Griff good morning, rob. You know, heres the thing. Janice really you cant overstate the dangers of the storm surges in this area. This is the big bend. Were going to be on the dirty side of the eye as it comes in and hits in panama city. This area is under an unprecedented threat according to officials. When you go 40, 50 miles out into the gulf, it is Shallow Water. So you have the dirty side of this cat 4 hurricane bringing miles and miles of Shallow Water and it is going to dump it on this area and these homes behind me are absolutely likely to be washed away, roads in the flooding is going to go all the way in the lowlying marshy areas toward tallahassee. If you go back 13 years to dennis, more than 70 people were killed. That hurricane came on landfall closer to pensacola. The eye wall is tracking closer east to this way which means the dirty side is going to be dirtier. It is homes like this one behind me that is likely to take absolutely devastating damage as we see the water coming up and already bashing it and were already bashing it and were hours before. But i want to show you but i want to show you something, rob and gillian, really quickly and that is the road conditions. This road right here that runs along Alligator Point was washed out under a much lesser hurricane a year ago, two years ago, hermine. It was a nothing burger hurricane. You can see, the road is still not recovered. Imagine what is going to happen, i know its dark, but this road already. I talked to a couple that decided to ride the storm out. When you add in the wind, the power lines that come down, the trees in the National Forest as well as the storm surge, people are worried about ever getting back in here and getting their homes fixed. Ago, they didnt want to go on camera, because of the urgency, they wanted to get out of here now as the mandatory evacuation urged people hours ago. They were holding off in their property but this road for the people in dozens of homes down this road along alligator alley and further west, theyre going to have a serious problem trying to get past this road at some point. You see the water washing up and taking it out already. We see new devastation being pushed up as we look at it. As i pointed out, we get a little farther away, probably too dark to see, but this is the vantage of the house many you can see the tide coming up. When you have a landfall coming in the afternoon, rob and jillian, that means high tide, which is expected around 3 00 p. M. Today, youll have 12 to 14 feet of storm surge, winds of over 100 miles an hour, on the dirty side, lashing them. Thats why the officials like lieutenant chris sav savery hadt warning. We want you out of there. Its a matter of life and death sometimes. Griff ill throw it back to you. Were going to go and keep working our way so we can quickly get out of here. But the message is, if youre awake and youre anywhere east of where the landfall is coming and youve got a chance to get out, youre almost too late but if youre listening to us, get out now because this is going to take lives and possibly as janice said historic damage. Rob i was just going to ask you, youre not going to be able to stay there for the storm. Because a 12foot storm surge in your position is going to go over your head. Well, you know, i think first and foremost, thanks for having me, but one thing you i want to start off by pointing out is as a misasa person from mississipps is my home state, the General Community is shocked by this. This is mississippi. This kind of thing doesnt happen here. What i mean by that is mississippi, we stand by our president , we stand by our military, and we support our Law Enforcement community and i think thats the biggest thing that shocked people is, you know, this is a place that this kind of stuff doesnt happen. Jillian the Forestville High School band director has been placed on administrative leave, a lot of people wondering why this person hasnt been fired. I know in your rant you say you blame the band director, you blame parents. Can we even, a question, put blame on students . In high school you are old enough to know right from wrong. Its claimed they were loosely depicting the movie john q. I watched it. I didnt see that part of the movie. I missed the part where students pretended to hold cops hostage on a football field as well. I think its crazy. We fired football coaches for praying with athletes but when you have a situation like this, which is political, at the end of the day, no matter how they want to depict this, this is an adult male, the band director, that is pushing a social justice agenda onto children, students, and like you said, can we hold the students accountable . I think you can, but its not 100 their fault. In my opinion, this falls down at the most basic level on parenting. As a former band person myself in high school, i know for a fact that this was practiced for months, all the way back into the summertime. Theyve been practicing this routine. So why didnt anyone say anything . At no point any student thought huh, you know, maybe this isnt appropriate or wow, this is weird, you know. No, weve started raising a generation that thats just something thats acceptable, you know, holding pretending, even, to hold Police Officers at gunpoint on a football field, no one says anything. That falls 100 on the parents. It is our job to teach our kids the values that we want to hold dear. It is the schools job to teach our kids academics. Somewhere along the way we as parents got lazy and we just started letting other people teach our kids about morals and values and do our job for us. Rob a lot of people credit left wing politicians, even some people say the Obama Administration for the huge divide between the black community in this country and the police force that protects us. And a lot of people say a lot of that rhetoric led to some of the violence against Police Officers weve seen. We saw in dallas five Police Officers shot and killed at a black lives matter rally. Do you think in a way that kind of talk has led people down this road where its okay to make a display like this at a half time show where its okay to hate the cops . Cops . Well, i think unfortunately the narrative today is that cops are these powerhungry individuals that just want to do what they want to do, how they want to do it. The social media narrative, all you ever see on the internet are the very small amount of cops that do make a mistake. And so its created this divide, unfortunately it created a divide that cops hate black people which is the furtherrest thing from the truth. I do a lot of work with the local Law Enforcement agency, city, county, state troopers, a lot of them are african american. And the main thing these men and women want is to simply protect our community. And you should hear the Law Enforcement officers actually having conversations with people that should go to jail but they dont because they actually just care about these people. It says, quote, we are in full force investigating and interviewing all of the folks who were involved in the decision. I would urge the Broader Community to remember that these are young people.
