As much as the pamath is concer those are really key states for them. I think if donald trump is able to win both of those, it would really put him on the path to securing the nomination. Then we have other states, though, illinois, missouri and North Carolina loon gnaw. Illinois 69 delegates North Carolina 52. North carolina is flat out traditional but illinois and missouri explain how the states works. They are not winner take all. They are proportional by congressional district. There are rules over how that vote gets divided up. These are states where ted cruz is hoping to peel off enough delegates to keep at pace with donald trump. While the focus has been on ohio and florida he has been campaigning vigorously in North Carolina. They are hoping to secure enough delegates to continue on while rivals are focused on the bigger states. I think you did just reference this. That that i cans trump the automatic nominee. Doing well if he wins in florida and ohio. Technically he wont secure the requisite number of delegates. You have to get 1237 to secure the nomination out right. If he does win ohio and florida that would mean john kasich and marco rubio is really probably tough to leave the race. It is a big day. I would argue the most important day so far in the race for the white house. Lets start with florida. Thats potentially the biggest state today. Polls are looking a little more challenging for him. What is going to happen there. First we have the cuban american vote where he has led trump by quite a margin up until now. We have the absentee ballots which are very strong this year which we dont have the read on yet. The hes not ahead of the running in florida yet. Voter turnout particularly for cuban American Voters is going to be very important for him today. Rubio is planning to go to utah tomorrow. If you dont take florida how do you go on . I think it is hard for him to go on. If kasich was to win he would have the number of delegates he currently has. One thing to Pay Attention to if you look at where the early voters come from it has been predominantly high latino areas. That could be high democratic turnout as well. That is the only glimmer of hope. Kasich made it clear if he doesnt win ohio he will drop out. I want to ask about the violence we have seen over the past few days at the trump rallies. Does it help him or hurt him we will start with you. It was unbelievable. Last thursday evening donald trump started to talk about it and the next evening all hell broke lose in illinois. It is rather ironic. You would think it would hurt him even though it was not his campaign or his protestors who incited the violence. Yet his poll numbers are up. They are up in florida. They have to take accountability for the very angry language inciting the violence. President obama invited the violence over the last several weeks. They have encouraged protestors to get out there. Not always peacefully. There are a lot of people who need to take responsibility. I would like to see donald trump a little less ford and more president marshall on air force one. He has tried. We have seen them both attack donald trump more and more. This has helped donald trump considering we think of him as the front runner. When you are not talking about your electorate why they should be voting for the other person it doesnt put you in a good position politically. Right now they are trying to throw fodder to the base because they need people to show up and vote for one or the other in illinois in ohio this morning. Marco rubio 163 and john kasich with 63. The two big races today everybody is talking about florida and ohio both winner takes all states. It could have a big pekt on his lead. Thank you for joining us. It is really early to be doing all of this math. We will let you do it. It is early. Break it down for us. Florida has 99 delegates updown. Florida has 99 delegates up for grabs. And then we have ohio which has 66. So what would the difference be in terms of who wins what . Well, so i think, first of all, weve got two winnertakeall states. Adds a big number to whoever wins each of them. If if kasich wins ohio and rubio wins florida, then the way the math adds up, its hard to get to 1,237 delegates and gets the nomination for donald trump before the convention. So it throws everything into bait of chaos. Okay. That is if he that is if if he loses both. Loses both. What if trump wins both . If he wins both, it sends a message about florida and ohio. It also sends a message about the other races today. Illinois, missouri, North Carolina. He would probably do well. If he loses the polling, hes ahead significantly by, what, 20 points. In florida. Absolutely. And tied with kasich in ohio. Exactly. And i think its the broader message you want to Pay Attention to. To date, trump has won less than 50 of the delegates out there. As of today, half the delegates will have been allocated. And if he does really well today, really what that means is that hes on a path. Its going to be very hard to stop him. The big question i think is what if he wins one and what if he loses another. Which seems like the most likely outcome now with kasich doing potentially well in ohio. Rubio not doing so well in florida. If he loses ohio because kasich in terms of his likability numbers, hes well liked as a governor in ohio. I think if he loses ohio, there are two interesting things that happen. The first is youve got probably the clearest the clearest pool of candidates that weve had. Youve got kasich who clearly sits on one end of the spectrum. He is the the establishment choice or the moderate choice. Youve got cruz who is the true conservative, as he says, and this phenomenon that is trump. Gives voters a clear choice. What it also means, though, is that trump is likely not going to have enough delegates if kasich wins ohio. Trump is likely to not have enough delegates to win the nomination before the convention. Where cruz could get some delegates today would be in those proportional states that were dealing with, illinois, missouri, and North Carolina . Yeah. It seems clear at this point that cruz is fighting for second place. It seems nearly impossible that he can get enough delegates to actually win the nomination. So the ultimate question becomes when we get to the convention is what role can he play as the secondplace finisher and how strong a hand does he have to play. Yeah. And that being the question. What happens to the delegates when one of the candidates drops out . Well, i think this is where it gets interesting. If they actually drop out, their delegates become uncommitted. Okay. Say Santa Fe Rubio drops out in florida after today if he doesnt win florida, he has 163 delegates so far. Where would the delegates go . So they can go anywhere. Okay. Some of these delegates were originally committed to rubio because they had to be committed to the candidate before they were allocated.
