For eight strikes for eminent plotting of american and western interests. They were monitoring all of this and repeating updates from military leaders through out the night. Also touched base with the speaker of the house and House Minority leader nancy pelosi to keep them in the loop about the first wave of strikes inside syria. Peter doocy live in washington. Thank you. Historic alliance five nations working with the United States to help destroy aisis. Lets get to kelly wright for a breakdown of that coalition and the significance there. Terror expert walid fer rez told us about this he dubbed it arab nato. Five sunni muslim nations saudi arabia, united arab em britts bahrain, jordan and qatar are all working with the United States in a campaign to destroy isis. It is a remarkable accomplishment no allies involved in the United States. Pete king who is against isis says the coalition is a plus diplomatically because isis cannot claim that american infidels are attacking them. This is not a religious war. They will claim it is but the sighs sis argument it strengthens the u. S. And puts us in a better position diplomatically. I would have supported the attack whether or not we had the Coalition Support but the fact that we have it is a plus. There is enormous limb country that is part of nato it will play a role in the fight of isis. Turkey. It is a sympathetic access. Turkey gets involved it could greatly reduce the capability of isis. All of the countries around isis would be engaged it would be a legitimate muslim anti ice lis coalition perhaps led by the United States but everybody in the neighborhood is against isis. Some are describing this coalition as significant indeed but it still requires very heavy lifting particularly determining who will lead the way on the ground . Will american boots be on the ground some think that should not be the case. Kelly wright live for us. Thank you, kelly. The white house making sure syria was aware u. S. Fighter jets would be striking isis targets. Still no word from president bish charral assad as the world waits on how he will respond. John . Heather, if he responds at all. We havent heard from assad in months. Last time he spoke was in july had nothing to do with the fighting against anti Syrian Government forces that has been happening over the past couple weeks. We will see about that. His representatives including the syrian foreign ministry, it has spoken. In fact take a look. It released a statement earlier today saying the american side informed syrians permanent envoy to the u. S. That strikes will be launched begins the terrorist organization raqqa. Da daesh is an arabic word for isis. Raqqa has been isiss self declared capital its in the northern part of syria. When president obama told the nation 12 days ago the strikes would happen in syria officials said without the government consent it would be considered an act of aggression. Whether syrian representatives gave the government consent at the u. N really is unclear. He is scheduled to speak on monday followed by israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Coincidentally israel shot down a fighter jet that strayed into the airspace along the border. Syrian government has been fighting rebel forces anti Syrian Forces for the past couple of weeks on the border in the goal< lon heights there. That has nothing to do. Thats an isolated incident from the u. S. Air strikes from the northern part of the country. In terms of president Bashar Alassad speak, he probably wont based on the last couple months. But we are 7 hours ahead in the middle east compared to new york. If anything comes out it will likely come out today. John, thank you. A fox news alert the u. S. Military beginning the air strikes campaign targeting the terror group isis. What comes next retired colonel d dan jansen joins us. Thank you for getting up so early to be with us. Thats all right. What is going on, we have heard about the air strikes we have learned about them about 9 oclock. 20 targets we are being told. With your experience what is actually happening, how do we find our targets, how are the missiles being launched . Well, the targets were all decided long ago. Thats the thing about where isil is and what they are doing. There really arent that many targets. This isnt a country per se, they dont have a lot of assets to disease troy i. The 20 targets that were delineated and sent out had probably been in the works, planning for at least a month. Thats the way that the military operates. You get really good information. The problem is within that space in time even since the air strikes have begun, isil can move, they can adapt, they can erect dummy sites, camouflage what they have got. Its really problematic how much true damage was done if you get my drift. The air strikes are good if we want to target training facilities. They arent going to move. Do you think they need troops on the ground the moving targets when they put dummies up infantry can help with that they can call in the air support. Do they need boots on the ground . You are not going to defeat isil from the air. Thats a given. I dont think they need to be american boots. There are several countries over there, turkey thats not much of a chance, iran can be a player. Theres syria itself. Nobody has a greater interest in eliminating isil than assad. I dont think he right now i think hes doing the smart thing which is waiting and seeing what happens. If we destroy isil or degrade them to a significant degree that will help. If we lose interest which is prone to happen based on this administration and pull out then he loses nothing by waiting but hes in the best position to do something something about it. They offer them enough incentive to do something about it. Lieutenant colonel dan hampton. Thank you for being with us. No problem. Speaking out about the willingness of our men and women in uniform to carry out plans like these because america is in danger. When people wear the uniform and they feel the con he tree is in danger they want to do something about it. I can tell you from primary sources when the president was making his speech in Central Command telling them i am not going to send you into combat i am not going to do this they dont want to go. They believe america is in danger. When they are able to use their skill and apply their courage to help secure america and protect america they are at the best of their feelings. The pilots that are striking tonight and knowing they are protecting america, protecting their families, protecting what this country stands for, there is no better feeling and they have the skill sets to do that. Not only that they know they can do it without hurting other people that should not be hurt indiana tensionnally. One of the reasons they believe america is in danger the enemy is among us. American fighters for isis are back on u. S. Soil. This confirming the home grown terrorists returning to america. This comes as a chilling new threat for isis emerges. Telling america quote you will not feel the tour even in your bed feel secure even if your bedroom. Now we have to really redouble our efforts to try to find these people to gather the. This was a situation that we were caught really with our pants down not knowing enough about them, not having enough information about them. It is something we have to take extremely seriously. The call for isis to go act on their own, thats very, very difficult to detect. You are not going to get communications that you can intercept or informants for the information. You are igniting the self proclaimed jihadists to do any self proclaimed thing you want to do. The Terror Center estimates 15,000 militants from 80 Different Countries have tried to join isis from at least 100 from the u. S. Oo a p brand new video shows isis linked terror group threatening to behead a kidnapped french man. In the video the man identifies himself as cordell saying he was kidnapped in nigeria. Now launching air strikes against isis in syria. Inside the military operation and the possible retaliation what our coverage continues next. The u. S. Now conducting air strikes in syria to target isis. Are the air strikes the step in the right direction to defeat the terror group . Joining me now is retired naval officer and spokesman for the western hemisphere and the office of secretary of defense jd gordon. Just yesterday we heard former defense secretary leon panetta say he along with Hillary Clinton the cia director and the chair of the joint chief all advise president obama to go into syria earlier. He needed to do something earlier. He choose not to do that. Is it too little too late and who do you think he is listening to . Now . I think the president should have done something more and a lot rlliar. They have an indiather getting million a day for Oil Smuggling in turkey. The real threat is radical islam. Isis is just a detail if you will. The last threat al qaeda was the major threats. Before that it was the taliban. After we destroy isis is t who knows. We have to stop radical islam. We did hear this morning in addition to the 47 tomahawk missiles which hit damage order destroyed 14 targets across syria, isis targets, that an additional 8 targets were hit with weapons and that was an al qaeda off chute group that was quoted eminent threat to america. What do you take from that news this morning . Oo i think it is positive we are going after isis militarily and after al qaeda militarily. I think it is great we have a coalition especially saudi arabia and qatar. About the tomahawks. We shot 47 in this strike. Yet the Obama Administration only ordered 100 tomorrow hawks for the whole year in 2014 and none for 2016 for an untested system that is not ready now. It is still 2018. Obama administration is setting us up for failure on the acquisition front as well. What about boots on the ground . Thats what everybody wants to know is that what we need to do in order to accomplish our goals which was to defeat and destroy isis. If we do that who should involve those boots on the ground . I think we need to have more boots on the ground in iraq. U. S. Forces could be attacked by the iranians for instance and syrians. But i think they should have boots on the ground but it will take a long time to train the syrian rebels. The arab countries should step up to the plate. They should step up to the plate and use their ground troop. They have had Ground Troops there before. What about turkey . Turkey should play a bigger role. Turkey is a nato ally. They have taken a step in the wrong direction towards the islamist stretch and they havent done nearly enough to stop the border. It is like a jihadist highway for the south and westerners going into syria. Turkey will play a much bigger role so the Oil Smuggling doesnt continue. We will see if they change directions today. Thank you so much for joining us this morning. Thank you, heather. 26 minutes past the top of the hour. U. S. And black swans are unpredictable. It is tuesday september 23rdrd. Breaking overnight the u. S. Stepping up the fight against isis laufrping air strikes in sere launching air strikes in syria. explosions at this hour an Historic Coalition of forces from the middle east now assisting in the effort. Back to fox friends first. Lets get right to the alert. Coalition forces launching air strikes against isis. Doug luzader is live for us to breakdown the operation. Good morning, doug. Good morning. We know the air strikes were launched from the red sea and the persian gulf. The other thing is notable is the number of countries involved in this effort. Now amateur video over night shows or appears to show the impact of these u. S. Led air strikes. They were carried out by carrier based Fighter Aircraft as well as 47 tomahawk crews missil cru missil missiles. Syria is home of twothirds of isis fighters. The people who are on the ground where the air strikes have occurred are feeling a real sense of shock right now. Theres nothing to compare with pound, 1,000 pound bombs going off for hours on end. There is fear setting in right now. We are still waiting to hear more about the affectediveness of the strikes but we talk about the coalition aspect of this the fact that five arab nations were involved in this effort four of which participated directly in the strikes themselves. But this does raise the question whats next . Because without an Effective Ground campaign, will this be enough to really effectively impact isis . Isis is known for several days these strikes were coming to what degree were they able to hunker down and avoid the impact of these air strikes . We dont know the answers to those questions yet. This is very much a work in progress here. Doug luzader live for us. A Historic Alliance five arab nations now joining forces with the United States. Kelly wright in studio with the details of this coalition. Good morning. President obama has been trying to put an arab base on all of this. The attacks on isis targets and syria are not from americans alone. The air strikes are from a coalition of arab nations working side by side to destroy isis, united emirates, qatar, jordan are involved. General jack king says he supports the president s effort to put together the Strategic Coalition adding it is a specific step towards defeating isis. It is very significant we have four aer rarab muslim countries attacking a sunni based terror organization. Many frwere urged to do somethi assad before. But now this is isis. Tsz significa it is significant in my judgment. They also aid hamas. I always felt we had a way to do this country. Another cause to concern this coalition is strong in the United States. They will chair a meeting on the Security Council he is expected to push for it giening backing for isis. Some of our viewers have been tweeting back to me this morning saying their major concern is that we wont be able to finish a job and isis wont retaliate against many of the people there. Thank you so much, kelly. Syria knew full well the requai strikes were in bound. Now the sworld watching and waiting for a request from president bish chashar alassad. Good morning, john. Good morning, ainsley. Syrians president assad hasnt said anything about this. We havent heard from him in several months. He could just simply leave this up to his representatives or at least speak through his representatives including the syrian foreign ministry. As i said earlier in a issued statement the american side is an envoy to the u. S. Thn. That strikes will be launched against the Daesh Terrorist Organization in raqqa. It to give you a perspective it is in northern syria. There has been heavy fighting for the last woum weeks. Isis claimed it is isis capital. Theres been a lot of back and forth. A lot of Syrian Government bombings by the way on isis there. The u. S. Would conduct air strikes in syria they said without the governments consent it would be considered an act of aggression. They have the capability with the air Defense System to foot down suit fig u. S. Fighter jets. If it were to happen the u. S. Would destroy syrias air defenses. Whether they gave consent about the air strikes is unclear. Syrian deputy Prime Minister as i reported earlier it is in new york hes scheduled to speak on monday and followed by israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a footnote to all of this ainsley and heather israel shot down a fighter jet that strayed into israeli airspace in the northern part of israel apparently hitting rebel targets along the border rment we have reported extensively about the anti Syrian Government forces battling with the Syrian Government. It looks like this has nothing to do with the u. S. Air strikes. But again if we hear anything from president assad it will likely come out in the next couple hours. Again heather we are 7 hours ahead here. That could happen if it does at all. John let us know. 14 isis targets either destroyed or damaged in the air strikes led by the u. S. In syria. How will syria respond . You just heard john talking about that. Senior advisor to counterterrorism and intelligence to the chairman of House Committee on Homeland Security josh cats. What are your thoughts in terms of how assad will respond . I think what we are seeing in the initial hours here is that assad was at the very least complicit in this attack. So the response from assad, there may be some rhetoric that comes out of it. We wont really see any push back because they were compatible targets meaning they were targets that assad himself would have liked to have seen destroyed. These were isis targets that have moved really quickly over the last couple of days. I think thats really key here. Isis had gained ground very, very rapidly in the area forcing a real mass exodus of Syrian Kurdish refugees into turkey. What about the refugees. You mentioned that you believe that is one of the major crises we are facing in this operation. It absolutely is. I would say that crisis, the Syrian Kurdish crisis here was probably what made the administration go forward with this attack. We are seeing an unprecedented number of a little over 100,000 people, thats an astronomicalen amount of refugees turkey is dealing with right now. With the gains of isis the last couple days were pretty significant and made this attack necessary at this point. What do we do about that problem . The refugee problem is something we have to aid turkey with. 100,000 people pouring over the borders. There are refugee issues. There are Security Issues here. I have to wrap you up quickly. You mentioned turkey we need to aid them. We need to aid them even though they havent joined this coalition . Oo in this case the danger of de stabilizing turkey from these refugees, the in pouring of refugees is not insignificant cant. What we cannot wait around for is wait around for de stabilization to happen in turkey. Okay, thank you for joining us. Appreciate your input. Thank you. A key question now is how effective are those air strikes in syria . Kt mcfarland speaking out about what happens longterm if the strikes prove to be infective in combating isis. Six months from now we a couple choices either we leave, we the americans leave and leave it not having defeated isis or we have big american boots on the ground or a likely alternative if this stands out iraqis dont work, americans have been beheaded. You have a growing cancer in the middle east of mad dogs, the hell hounds of hell are unleashed in the region. We dont be long in the middle of a civil war we dont be long in a shiite civil war. On the other hand we dont just walk away and look away when Something Like this happens. The coalition is great. The question will be what happens next, whos boots on the ground. I dont think its a good idea it is only american boots on the ground. We dont need another iraq war. On the other hand i dont think you walk away. What happens next . Lets keep talking about this the u. S. Air strikes in syria. Did the u. S. Wait too long and how do you think isis is going to respond now . Head to the Facebook Page for a live debate after the show keep talking. The time now 41 after the top of the hour. U. S. Will h assistance from the arab world help defeat isis . Joining us is walid farris. Thanks for joining us. Im reading what intel is saying. Im reading is isis is talking about striking back. Does that mean striking back in the rejn or the west . That is the major question. Actually isis will have to strike back especially when they realize many of their headquarters have been hit in front of their own constituency both in syria and iraq. They will have to do something about it. The problem is going to be too many targets for them. This is not just the United States conducting airstrikes. You have the saudis, bahrainis, the u. A. E. Isis will have to decide where to strike. On that point, yesterday we heard another piece of propaganda that was released by isis. And in this 20minute deluge they went on to speak on all of these countries and they said any country striking gens against isis they were encouraging lone world attacks. They are banking on the fact there are many jihadists around the world in these countries, including the United States. Let me mention a few weeks ago a number of jihadists in the west declared that they will actually assist isis. They will be with them. They have been with al qaeda and now theyre switching to isis. Yes, that would be the area of great concern for our National Security here in the west and the arab world as well. When you hear about these lone wolves and weve seen the videos of the beheadings youd like to knock them out and like the president said destroy them all. Is syria able to handle all of these isis terrorists . Lets be very realistic with this first wave of airstrikes. This is going to degrade the capacity of isis. It is going to try to transform isis from a regime, from a government with large equipment to a militia. Were not going to eliminate isis from the air but they are going to become a regular militia. That is the goal, i guess, so far. Well wait and see what the president will have to say today, or other leaders in washington. Its been 12 days since we heard the president mention that we would in fact engage in these airstrikes in syria. What do you think isis has been doing during those 12 days in order to prepare . Excellent question. Our sources in syria have been reporting that isis has been moving large equipment. We dont have any idea what that means but basically what they believe to be a target, to have also been removing flags, to be moving equipment inside the home. Whatever they think and feel were not going to strike, those areas, they filled them with those weapons so far, which is very normal for them to do. Probably residential areas. Thank you.
