get to fox news first arthur upgraded to a hurricane. >> they are showing the storm expanding as it is traveling up the east coast. >> maria molina has more from the weather center. >> that's right. hurricane arthur has been intensifying. it has maximum sustained winds at 75 miles per hour. temperatures dropping and all of the data from the national hurricane center from hurricane hunters is what determines har thur -- arthur is a hurricane. it is looking better organized even on the tropical satellite image. some of the outer rain bands reaching parts of south carolina. we have tropical storm warnings in effect along coastal areas of south carolina and hurricane warnings have been extended across parts of north carolina. we have hurricane warnings in effect from surf if i north carolina up into the north carolina virginia border. all of this area is looking at the hurricane warnings in effect. some will have heavy rain 6 inches of rain possible. that will be a concern in terms of flooding along the coastal areas strong rip current are an issue. you can see the coastal flooding as the hurricane continues to move northward. it is forecast to further intensify. from late tonight into early tomorrow morning it could have maximum sustained winds at 85 miles per hour. it could braise the coast along north carolina or make rainfall there. it is supposed to as a category 1 hurricane. it will forecast to remain far enough away from the coast of the northeast where most impact will be minimal if we see any. but it is parts of the cape that could be looking at tropical storm conditions friday night into early saturday morning. that's pretty much the only area that will be seeing impact from this storm system. we have a cold front that is moving eastward across the northeast. it does have the potential to produce severe weather large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes and significant travel delays expected for cities like new york, philadelphia, dc, the entire mid atlantic and northeast expected to see the delays today. one of the busiest travel days of the year. this will be a big issue here. we have arthur and the severe weather potential into the arthur is getting closer and closer to shore. >> the wind is picking up just a little bit. the water is not too bad yet. it will hit this region sometime later tonight. we spoke to a few vacationers a lot of beach goers are saying we are disappointed our holiday will be cut short because of arthur. locals are saying we are going to ride out the storm. we are not too worried. we have been through
