You have got to figure, you know, he is a tireless campaigner, he is sitting in that hospital suite, and is he going stir crazy. Came up with this. It is interesting though that when you think about the timing. I read somewhere, apparently the announcement that he was going to go to walter reed was going to come at least in the 4 00 hour on friday. Which would suggest that they were going to wait until the stock market closed. Interestingly enough, as soon as he popped out for that little drive yesterday, the stock market futures went up 150 points and they are still up. Have you got to wonder was it not only to project strength, ainsley, but was it also to send a signal to wall street im going to be okay. Dont sell off. Ainsley a lot of people were saying they were glad he made an appearance. Others said they felt like he was putting secret service at risk. A lot of people wanted to hear and see from him just to give the country that message of it is all going to be okay. People have been praying and worried about him. Also this big caravan of cars that came from where you live, brian, out on long island and theyre called let me see on my notes the long island loud majority is the name of this group. There are about 100 cars that shut down fifth avenue in front of trump tower and they were all out there in their trucks and motor cycles and blares their horns and waving flags. He was talking more when he did actually speak off the record he was talking more about the president s condition on friday we didnt know was that serious. We didnt know the blood oxygen was the way it was. We didnt know he needed supplemental oxygen. He said he wasnt having any difficulty breathing. You worry about the conditions of his lungs. Experts say we we will talk to doctors throughout the show the fact is there might be some could be some damage to the lungs. They dont know. The steroids would address that. The Vice President ial debates are a little different than the president ial debates in that people will watch them but they mainly read about them and hear about them. It was a moment where she showed herself to be apropos. It was the moment that determined how the debate would be conducted from the rest of that debate biden was sort of put in a corner to have to be nice to sarah palin and he did and that debate ended in a time. That he had a cat scan of the lungs and what what im understanding all of that looked good thats another thing that bodes well for his recovery. Steve were heard this remdesivir is a five day treatment. He would be three days in by now. He has two more left. I believe its intravenous not like a pill you pop. We also heard he took a steroid called and i think its pronounced dexamethasone which is typically not used in people who have mild or moderate cases. Its usually used with people who have it pretty bad. So, when people have heard that steroid was being used maybe is he not in such good health after all. Well, steve, you pronounced that drug exactly right. And the studies came out on new england journal of medicine and elsewhere shows a big advantage of survival. As you said people who have moderate or severe covid affecting the lungs, i think in his case i dont have inside information of this they want to be ahead of the curve. Thats why they gave him ren general ron to block the virus gave him remdesivir quickly and early. Thats why when his oxygen level dropped reportedly on friday they probably responded with the steroid here in advance of having that cat scan to look at the lungs. The respect that he has responded so well and not on oxygen now is extremely positive and makes me think that he is not currently in any kind of a severe problem with it in terms of his lungs. Are they going to stop the dexamethasone when he leaves the hospital or continue it for a few more days . We dont know that either. Is that because the doctors came out and they gave an update he is out in the motorcade . Yeah, there is two things, the president looks like is he going to go back to the white house this week. Thats absolutely huge. And, by the way, we closed down on friday but well, well off the lows from the initial news where the markets went into free fall mode. Also, still lingering hopes that maybe there will be a fiscal stimulus package. You know, we will see. But thats the onetwo punch driving this market this morning. Ainsley what about the debate last week and the debate this week. The Vice President ial debate. Did that last week make a difference and what about this wednesday . You know, its interesting, the markets were up for the week last week. All the major indices were up. So, im not sure if the needle moved a lot on that. We also had a lot of economic data. The majority of it was good. Economic data was good. The turns have been positive. We feel like the rebound is continues. But heres the thing. Its slowing and so all eyes are really going to refocus this week back to congress, back to potentially some fiscal stimulus and then perhaps back to the president ial numbers. Remember, a lot of people were burned looking at polls, can i tell you right now the Consumer Confidence numbers when you look atna, in that survey, President Trump had a 7 point lead over biden when people which candidate would be better for their own personal finances. Gillian thats the Million Dollar question not just entire staff but white house this morning. Kayleigh mcenany told us that getting back to 1600 pennsylvania avenue is a top priority for the president. It sounds like the president is in the middle of whats a fairly intense regimen. We continue to use 5day course of remdesivir, in response to low oxygen levels, he received dexamethasone and our plan to continue for the time being. Gillian the team discloses details after misstating truth on saturday and the president himself in a video. Take a look. Its an interesting journey. I learned a lot about covid. Appropriate precautions were taken in the execution of this move to protect the president and all those supporting it. Brian not a dull moment. Lets bring in dr. Mehmet oz of dr. Oz show. Given that the president has steroids, 5 days of remdesivir, 2 or 3 days in on it, are you surprised surprised that he can in fact, be released today, is that something that you would advise . Dr. Oz it depends oxygenation, brian. Fatigue and other complaints like fever. Number one is oxygenation level and given medications because of oxygen levels that were dropping 94 . Theyve been above that now for 2 days from what we understand. It would be reasonable to consider discharging him. By the way, they may have scanned his lungs. You dont usually do it here. That helps us look for evidence and infection in lungs that are arent manifest from the outside, you cant tell from looking at oxygen levels but many people with covid have areas of the lungs that are inflamed and if you didnt have a lot of those, it would be additional evidence that its safe to go back home. Steve we have been hearing about new drug that is people have not heard about so far during the coronavirus pandemic. One of them was regeneron which apparently they gave the president early on and then we heard that hes also being treated with some sort of a Super Steroid called dexamethasone which i read some comments by other doctors who said, you know, you only give that to the really sick people. Dr. Oz well, dexamethasone is recommended now by the nih, by the world health organization, it is given and recommended if patients need oxygen and the president did need oxygen. Usually given a little later in the course but i sent you an animation, if you send it it can be helpful. The virus, seeing virus particles, proteins, they are looking for areas and going to the president s nose a couple of days he tested positive, down to throats and into the lungs and set up shop and begin irritation, they relieve lots of virus which is exploding through here. Thats the problem, that by itself doesnt hurt people as badly as what happens afterwards. When the virus is creating lots of area the immune system, white cells come in and attack and they start to fill up the lung and especially the alviola, purple little sacks with fluid and if you wait too long, you have lots of damage to the lung and what dexamethasone is stops it to its track. Dexamethasone is a have you a very powerful one and it has been remarkable gamechanger in the treatment of covid19. In fact, one big takeaway message from the president s treatment and ive got the head of regeneron coming on the show, we have a lot of solutions, none of them are curious, coupled together we reduced mortality rate of the horrible virus and thats good news for everybody. Ainsley what did you think when you saw the president coming out and seeing the people, he was inside the cars, windows roland up and everybody had a mask on. We dont know if the secret service had been pokes ed before or if they had covid or there was a partition in between front seat and backseat. What did you think . They said appropriate precautions were taken. Dr. Oz ive heard everything that youve said and ive spoken to physicians. Some of us dont understand. We wouldnt have done that for a patient under our care because coming patient in icu or hospital bed where theres air being taken out of the room and youre able to keep social distancing, but theres many factors as you point out. Brian right, we will see how that goes. The other thing is could you tell us about the decision that went into that nonfda, the nonfda approved drug, regeneron that is for compassionate use, the decision to use that in days, what went into that, what were they hoping for . Dr. Oz what regeneron does that and theres also plasma which we talked about in the show, fluid for people that are suffering, regeneron made a modern version, they picked a few antibodies specifically targeted against covid. Here is the game plan, you want to go in there and knock out the virus thats overwhelming you so that your immune system can catch up. If youre going to use it, you should use it early which is what they did. Interestingly there was a study in the past week with regeneron showing benefit when used in that setting. Not enough data to approve it for the fda but enough that the physician taking care of the president thought it was reasonable to try with him. Buys him time so his immune system can catch up. If thats not enough by itself you can then give remdesivir and prevents the virus from replicating in the cell. You can block it from getting into your cells and stop it are reproducing in your cells and if its reproducing and causingen flammation you can knock it with dexamethasone. Those are belt and suspenders, tackling the virus at every level where it can hurt us. Tactics like that are how we are managing covid19 in the country. We dont have access to regeneron yet but the family of medications will gain acceptance and in the meantime convalesence plasma, a big pioneer in it, it really does seem to matter which is why its been around for decades. Steve we dont know whether or not the president will be released today and the presumption is that he will go to the white house, the worry is that he would be doing too much and might get exhausted and relapse or get worse again. But Going Forward for the next period of time, isnt the key just rest . Dr. Oz you know, im a big advocate for sleep as i know you are, it matters, its one of the challenges the white house are having to giving body time to recover. The key window is 5 to 10 days, theres always a chance and the medical staff taking care of the president is acutely aware of this that he could still have a relapse and we want to prevent that. And the second reality i might show today a test medical doctor, they are all saying the same thing. You have all the capability in the white house that you have at walter reed, so theyll be able to care for the president , that might not be true for the average person discharged from the hospital. Have you heard how hes doing because a lot of people are worried about him . Yes, senator lee is doing well. Hes experiencing most of the typical symptoms that come with the coronavirus and i think probably the the interesting thing for everyone to keep in mind is you look at this crazy realm of the coronavirus and is that it is uneven, it isnt one of those where you get sick and then you start Getting Better and better. Its much more like a roller coaster and comes in waves and hes experiencing all of that and i know he has his eye towards the hearings that will happen in the Judiciary Committee relating to the confirmation process of Amy Coney Barrett coming up. Steve thats interesting because democrats are saying because of coronavirus, because senator lee has got it and others as well, just not safe, but you have to wonder if you have 3 republican senators with coronavirus, ultimately if they still were out of the senate, they would not have a majority to push her through. Yeah, thats right. So ultimately, remember, you can do the hearings, you can do that remote, theyve have proven in the senate but the senate does still have the rule to cast a vote you have to be on the floor of the senate, the real thing to watch over time will really be can everyone actually show up on the day of that confirmation vote. Steve what is your prediction about the tone and tenure of that . I think the democrats have to be careful about the hearings. If they turn that into a 3ring focus and focus on things that were swinging wildly. Remember, many voters in 2016 that voted for President Trump solely on the basis of the Supreme Court. Some of those voters have gotten a little tired and exhausted and withdrawn, they may not even vote this round or some have drifted to the biden camp. If the democrats swing wildly at Amy Coney Barrett, they actually could be the ones that awaken those that gave President Trump the election in 2016 and may reawaken them to another victory in 2020. Mark good morning, nice to be with you and obviously this is an important day as the president continues to improve and is ready to get back to a normal work schedule. Hes already this morning weve had a couple of discussions on items that he wants to get done, candidly, hes already tasked me with getting some declassification rolling in a followup to some of the requests that devin nunes and others have made. Ainsley what are the details for today . What time would he be leaving and do you think he should be leaving . Mark well that determination has not been made yet. Obviously he continues to improve overnight and his health continues to improve. The doctors will actually have an evaluation some time late morning and then the president in consultation with the doctors will make a decision on whether to discharge him later today. We are still optimistic that based on his unbelievable progress and and how strong he has been in terms of his fight against this covid19 disease, that he will be released, but that decision wont be made until later today. Brian so i heard you in judge jeanine and got remarks on friday. You sound more like a friend thats concerned about his friend rather than chief of staff thats concerned about the president because understand it but the word came out that when you gave off the record remarks that got on the record, that the president was furious at you, could you tell us if that was true . Mark listen, the president and i i dont know where anybody is getting the furious part with because the president and i have been together for the last 72 hours or more. We continue to work on behalf of the American People and so thats thats just i dont use the word fake news as much but i can tell you thats not coming from walter reed or anything here. Listen, i think its important that we are clear about the risks that the president had and and there was some real concern friday morning, the doctor and i talking friday morning, there was real concern that helped us make the decision to come to walter reed. That being said, he improved very quickly, the treatment has been outstanding, he continues to applaud the work of the doctors and nurses and medical professionals here. I think the biggest key that we have for all of america is that this president just like he just said is is really not only understanding what millions of americans have had to face as theyve come in contact with this disease, but more importantly, the fact that we need to continue to work on therapeutics. His treatment has been remarkable. His strength is incredible and his fight for the American People, you know, he was talking to me this morning. We need to work on behalf of Second Amendment fight, protect religious liberties, continue to fight for the values that americans hold dear and whether its late at night or early in the morning, hes consistent with making sure that hes fighting on their behalf and so im im just thankful for so many people, the people that are tuned in right now, millions of americans that have and people have across the world that have been wishing him well and praying for him. He obviously expressed that appreciation to some of the people outside of walter reed yesterday, and and even with that, was getting criticism. Here is the interesting thing, well, criticizing he put secret Service Agents at risk, how do we think that we got here . We came here in marine 1, the secret Service Agent that is with him has been with him, hes been with him in cars and yet we took additional precautions with ppe and others to make sure that they were protected, but, you know, a number of folks are trying to just make make a big deal of that when, indeed, i know that myself and and some of the secret Service Detailees are right there with him trying to make sure hes protected each and every day and he returns to the white house as expeditiously as possible. Steve right. A lot of people, mark, just want to make sure that he doesnt leave the hospital too soon because they dont want to see him go back to the hospital and we do understand that the white house has got a medical suite and he can absolutely be taken care of there. Can you explain speaking of suites, can you explain the president ial suite there at walter reed because you were talking a little bit about how the president , you know, got up early, you guys were already working. Is he in one room by himself, are you in another room, is plexy glass, how many people are wearing masks, how do you interface with him, are you yelling through the door or what . Well, thats a good question, no, we are not yelling through the door. We actually have a protocol, we get tested every morning, we have n95 masks. Steve are you all in a big conference table . Well, so we actually have an area that actually we check people in and out to make sure that they have proper ppe as they go in. He has a situation room there. As has been reported actually yesterday, he was on the phone with secretary esper and secretary pompeo, the Vice President , National Security adviser Robert Obrien and chairman milley as we talked about issues across the globe, in terms of National Security issues, so he was conducting business are from that situation room, so theres several different rooms there, but its mainly so that he can continue conduct the business on behalf of the American People and and so as we go in and out, those are normally doctors and and nurses, his secret Service Detail and myself, a few others that actually go in to that area, but its you know, we monitor how long people are in and steve sounds like you guys everybody has masks. Steve sounds like you guys are suited up. Essentially you look like youre from nasa than the white house . Mark no, i wouldnt suggest that we are suited, we are wearing n95 masks. Its not its not that youre actually going in a hat mask suit. I want people to understand that actually those would be more for medical professionals that are there working very, very closely with him, but, you know, im in a suit, i go in with a mask and we have eye protection as well and but we are close to him, we continue to engage in his room in the working environment as well. Ainsley how do you explain that to your family . Im sure they are worried. Its something that you sacrificed just like the secret service that have taken to protect and commit . Mark my family does get worried but i can tell you, this is a message to our military men and women. Im not having i may put myself at risk because of this virus but just like the president talked about, hes going to defeat this virus and i am not having to put myself in harms way with with bullets and and really just the enemy coming after me each and every day. This is an enemy that we will defeat and we will do that together but those are the risks that are associated with this job. Brian two game plans you need. You need the Trump Reelection Campaign has to figure out a way to get him reelected without him. Number 2 is you have to figure out a way to keep the economy going and American Peoples needs met and one thing is we need another rescue plan, another stimulus package. The democrats think they have it. You sat in on the negotiations, word is you were fed up because you didnt really feel the democrats were being sincere. Where are we at now . Could there be a new sense of urgency for democrats and republicans and could you tell us if we should be optimistic today . Mark well, do i think that theres the potential for a deal as long as politics do not get in the way again. I can tell you that secretary mnuchin and Speaker Pelosi have been talking. The secretary and i have been in Constant Contact even while we are here to try to make sure that we can find a way to move forward, but even even if a large comprehensive bill is not possible because of a few things that are out there and theres still major differences, lets go ahead and pass a number of the things that we can agree upon and and hopefully we can brian she wont do that. You know the speaker wont do that. Well, she doesnt want to do that but i think at this point its incumbent upon all americans to to put pressure on congress to say its time to come to the table. The president has come up over and over and over again, compromised on a number of issues, leader mcconnell and i had a discussion a day before yesterday about this particular issue. Its time that we do that and yet there are a lot of people that continue to hurt, are waiting on stimulus and the president is committed to getting a deal done but he wants to make sure that we we move expeditiously but also in a fiscally responsible manner. The governor hitting back saying the courts are combating efforts to fight virus. Puts us in the same states in the nation to save lives, weve saved thousands of lives and Supreme Court in slim majority republican volt undermine that effort and i remain very concern. Ainsley here with me now is dr. Randal baker, surgeon at grand health partners, one of the plaintiffs and patrick wright, attorney and director of Legal Foundation which brought the lawsuit against governor whitmer, thank you both of you for being with us. Thank you. Ainsley dr. Baker, how are you feeling and why this lawsuit . Doctor great, we are ecstatic, this is great day for people of michigan. We were told that we couldnt help patients and do not Preventive Care and only Emergency Care and as a result of that a lot of people got hurt and what the governor said is just plain not true. First of all, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously that what she did was illegal. The second decision that the Supreme Court made was the 4 to 3 decision but what frustrates me is i wish the governor would roll up the sleeves and start to working with the legislature instead of bathmouthing Supreme Court. This is not the time for this. We need to help patients and we need to stop the draconian lockdowns. Ainsley patrick, what made it illegal . Declaring emergency after april 30th, in michigan weve had an opportunity where the governor and the legislature have enacted important legislation related to covid and we are hopeful that now that the Supreme Court says that they have to Work Together that the governor and the legislature will help us fight this important battle against covid. Ainsley dr. Baker, what happens now . Doctor well, what i hope happens is that the legislature and the governor will get together and start to Work Together on how to do this. This is not a decision between the safety of covid care and noncovid care and harm. The ability is we can do covid care and noncovid care at the same time. We can do this. Science involves measurement and adjusting based on the results, not just doubling down on the original hypothesis and when this first started, we didnt know but very quickly we started to realize that the lockdowns were having unintended consequences, you had to then shift and had to go adjust.
