The first primary votes for president are being cast as we speak in a place called Dixville Notch. A small number of New Hampshire residents. Were talking about six votes. Well kind of decide thats the beginning. At least decide if nikki haley will have enough support throughout the day tomorrow to stick around. And New Hampshire is also a race that President Biden could lose because he is not on the ballot. Mark meredith is live in Dixville Notch as those six votes are coming in. Mark, whats the status . And then when do we find out the results . Trace were going to find out the results in just a few moments for now. And voting is underway here in the 2024 president ial primary. Right here in New Hampshire. It all starts in Dixville Notch, the very room that im in right now, a tradition that dates back to 1960. Going to pull out and kind of give you some sense of where things stand as we can if we can show you as the first ballot actually is going in right there. So the first ballot being cast right there and then this gentleman is basically switching spots, and then somebody else will go into the Ballot Location where they just the ballot box, i should say to place their ballot. Only six people voting this evening for four republicans and two undeclared or independents. If you will. And then the results will be posted on a whiteboard. You can see there that right behind that Woman In Black will be posted on that board right there. This person is checking ids right here, going through the Voter Registry shouldnt take too long because of course theres only six people that are eligible to vote here in this town. But we see as i get out of the way here, you can see him going in. Im crouching down and democracy in action. Isnt it exciting . But of course, this is the first of the New Hampshire primary contests. Traditionally well see a few other towns vote at midnight, but this year its only Dixville Notch. Its a tradition that dates back to 1960. Believe it or not, its become kind of a must visit for some of the president ial candidates that come down this way. And hes coming out and watch this. The ballot right there, there. Democracy at its finest. And heres the next voter already lining up so you can see them getting in there. Uh, so whats going to happen again is just this youre going to see this for all six of the people that are registered up here in Dixville Notch. From there, theyll review it, put them on the whiteboard and then it will be sent back out to the secretary of States Office here in New Hampshire. The rest of the state not voting at midnight, just here in Dixville Notch, trace. But this is something that weve kind of gotten used to because its something so beautiful to watch in real time. For a political geek, this is something you learn about and obviously for the people that live here in New Hampshire, they take a lot of pride in their results. Will also give the candidate who wins bragging rights, because we wont know how the rest of the state votes for essentially another, what, 15, 16 hours from now. So if whoever wins here in Dixville Notch will at least be able to say when they wake up tuesday morning, trace, things are looking better than they were. Just a few hours prior. Tracy, your picture was kind of freezing, kind of in and out there, mark. But your voice was static. It was great. It was kind of like Mark Meredith meets al michaels and you were kind of had him going to the box. So it really was this great thing. And you think when all six are in their mark, we are going to get theyre going to shake them up and theyre going to pull them out and theyre going to read them. Is that how this works . Or do you know how. Theyre not going to read them out loud for all of us, but we know that theyre going to be put on the board. So were going to get those tallies here. But obviously peoples votes, their information will remain private for who they chose to vote for. Speaking to some of the folks that were out here, though, they made it clear that their mind was likely already made up. And obviously they are now just going through the Voter Registry. Im just making sure we havent missed anything because with six voters, things can happen pretty fast. But certainly a cool moment. And actually, if we can real quick, just kind of pull out and just show you again, the sign thats right above, i thought this was pretty cool. Its just so old school. It says Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, first in the nation. And they take that first moment right there. As you can see it live, very proud. Youll see this in a lot of historic photographs, but it really does signify the theme of what theyre trying to accomplish here in Dixville Notch. This is a ski resort, a summer lodge here that they are even trying to build up more. They want to make this a much larger place to come to. Their population has dwindled over the years, but the owner of this property right here was telling me their goal is to get this back to maybe 40 or 50 people for years from now to vote. They want to really put some money, some resources to make this area a must visit outside of just the president ial election contest. Tracy. Uh, matt, do you first, i mean, first, give us the odds are six votes, two independent or undeclared and four republicans. How do you think it goes . Uh, well, you know, i think if you pass this prolog, you got to look at the 2020 general election. Actually all six voters in trump versus biden voted for biden. So that would tell me these are more moderate republicans for those for registered republicans, i think youre probably going to see nikki haley win Dixville Notch, which means shell have a lead at least for six hours or so until, uh, the rest of the polls open. I wonder . Its ridiculous. Leslie marshall and you know, when hes talking about there, matt. But its one of those things where if youre nikki haley and you win, say you win four 2 or 5 one, do you use that for the next 18 hours before the rest of the votes are cast . Like, hey, hey, hey, nikki haley has got a little bit of momentum going here. Absolutely. Because maybe somebody who wasnt planning to come out will, you know, with that, maybe somebody who is saying, you know, i dont want you know, i dont want trump. I did want, you know, desantis, i dont know what to do here. Do i write joe biden in or do i go for, uh, do i go for nikki haley . And, you know, she could pick up a few votes that way. Why not . Yeah. I mean, it really is a victory lap. Its exactly right. And you wonder because you look at this thing and you think, what does she need, matt . Because you know, you think, okay, iowa was a was bad news for nikki haley. Does she need to get within ten 11, 12, maybe 15 if she gets if she gets beaten by 20 or more, does she call it quits tomorrow morning . Does she call it quits tomorrow night or tonight . Well you know the challenge. The challenge. If the margins are that big, is that shes then going to have to say, where else am i going to be able to get votes . You know what other states can i actually make . Campaign in that look like New Hampshire . And, you know, we chat a little bit about it earlier. Just some of the built in benefits for whoever that nontrump candidate was going to emerge. In this case, it is nikki haley to have the support of a popular republican governor. And chris sununu to be able to capitalize off of very high Voter Participation amongst undeclared voters. And, look, our Secretary Of State here in New Hampshire says that we are going to have record turnout starting with those six votes in Dixville Notch. Of course, um, and not only record turnout among republicans, but of independents participating in the republican primary, most polling right now shows that upwards of 47 of the electorate today in the republican primary is going to be an undeclared or also known as independent voter. And thats going to have a huge impact on this race. Not a lot of other states have that. So nikki haleys got to win here. Im going to stop you right there. Theyre opening. Theyre opening the ballot box. Hold on here. Lets lets go back to Mark Meredith. See what they have. Trace the voting is officially over here in the first of the primary contests. All six ballots now being pulled out of the ballot box. Youll love this. Trace this ballot box dates back to the 1980s. Is actually made by State Penitentiary workers here in New Hampshire. And they are now showing that the ballot box has been emptied and that all of the votes have been taken out. They will now be reviewed by those same people who were just here voting. This is, again, democracy happening live in front of you. You can see that they will go over the ballots to make sure that their results match up. So we will expect to see six results. Uh, and obviously then the results will be posted up on that board and then transmitted to the secretary of States Office here in New Hampshire. But a live look here, you can see some of the Election Officials going over the ballots to make sure that they were properly filled out. And it looks like they will then mark down on another piece of paper who they person voted for. Well still have to wait a few more moments to find the, uh, final numbers here. You also love this. I dont know if you can show this. Uh, can we show the dog thats, uh, running around here at the same time . This is, uh, obviously when you. I dont know if you can see it. Theres just, um, one of the owners dogs have been kind of going in and out this is how, uh, i want to say informal, but how friendly of a, uh, here, heres the pup coming by. Nikki haley. Nikki haley. Yeah as the vote comes in for nikki haley, you can see the, uh, the dog also supervising this election in real time. But an indication, again, of how friendly people are here that they all know each other. Uh, that this is a, uh, i mean, you cant you cant beat this trace. Its so much fun to watch. You cant beat this. I mean, bill melugin was in iowa. Bill melugin. Oh, wait. Are they going to read him . Hold on. And another. And another result for nikki haley. Yep. Oh, wait. So whats the tally so far . Mark . I missed it. Nikki haley got all believes all six have gone for nikki haley. I just want to make sure i believe its all six for nikki haley. But let me before i. You know, i want to make sure i get this right for you. Trace. Theyre going to put it on this whiteboard. And as you see and stand by trace, here we go. Oh, hey. Yep. Uh, Attention Building here. Trace is the, uh, as the number comes in, and i believe as six is being drawn. Yep. Trace it is official. Wow. All six of the, uh, votes that were cast being for nikki haley, i see, for donald trump, theyve put a zero indication that the former president got none of the votes up here in Dixville Notch. And i guess that makes it about as official as it can possibly get. Uh as i asked, these, uh, these folks are now taking pictures, but youre seeing it live. The first results trace of the 2024 New Hampshire president ial primary. Former u. N. Ambassador nikki haley, right now able to claim a victory in this very small part of New Hampshire, which is just about, i dont know, 20, 25 minutes from the canadian border. So an area that is quite remote, but for, uh, haley country, its their first win of the night. Nicely. Done. Mark meredith. We appreciate that. Bill melugin said for two trump and you missed it. You were out. I missed bad. You might have to get on nikki haleys Campaign Twitter feed, see if theyre taking that victory lap you guys were talking about. Yeah. And i really im kind of curious about this. Matt mauer. Come in. Just show me. What do you think that this is useful for nikki haley as shes watching . Im sure right now. And shes going to go forward and say, hey, hey, look. Look whos leading. Yeah, i mean, look, shes going to have, uh, every network showing 100 to 0 in the New Hampshire primary. Uh, for the next, for the next 12 hours or so, uh, 14 hours. And so, uh, look, i dont think that lead is going to hold. Um, but, uh, what ill say is this is, you know, it does show that shes getting the type of support she would need from those types of independent minded voters to have a chance of maybe surprising in New Hampshire today. Still a long. Way to go. And Dixville Notch is a pretty, you know, specific Population Group of voters. So i dont think you can draw too many conclusions from this. Uh, but certainly shes hitting some marks early where she needs to. Leslie marshall, um, ill tell you, even though its only six votes, i mean, she got a third of the, uh, the independents or a third of those voters. If she gets anywhere near a third of the independent voters with more than a 40, you know, you know, people saying that theyre undeclared or theyre independent, you know, that might bring her. You know, over that 10, uh, mark, which i you know, i think that mark and i agree upon as far as the number this is Live Television that you will only see on fox news tonight. Its amazing stuff.
