Capitol hill, congress came closer to unleashing 1 trillion relief package which is expected to put some money in the pockets of hurting families. How much . And one . Its still very uncertain. And we begin in washington with White House Correspondent kevin corke, kevin, ordering the fda to step out. If what is a demanding . He wants to do two very important thanks, he wants to make certain that theyre leaving no stone unturned when it comes to fighting the virus. It has been a number of reports and im sure well talk about them throughout the program, different treatments for other maladies and fighting the coronavirus and slots number one. A number two, make certain all americans know that we will spare no expense to getting to the bottom of what could be a possible way to mitigate the damage done by the pandemic which is not just in our country but obviously, the entire globe in the global economy. Meanwhile, lawmakers in washington are hoping that their time, trays, will be the charm and Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell coronavirus rescue package is a very strong work tomorrow here in washington by republicans or democrats, the third such package to move forward here in the Nations Capital. Its 1 trillion plus package and ill included Financial Health for americans, relief for Small Businesses and the employees, and new support for Health Care Professionals and coronavirus patients. Earlier today, you probably saw this, president voting in the White House Briefing and at the headquarters was talking about the battle plans and bailouts. Combating the expanding Virus Outbreak and to rescue struggling businesses that are obviously having difficulty coping with the shutdowns that we are all experiencing great up by the way, that includes u. S. Auto manufacturers despite the earlier bailout following the financial crisis in 20082009, they once again need help from american taxpayers. Were watching the Auto Industry very much, were going to be helping them out. Its at least a little bit. They requested some help and its available with what happens will be taken care of the Auto Industry. A lot of people in washington especially over on capitol hill, the beasley one string attached to any federal bailout money that might go to auto manufacturers and others and that something the president said that hes up at two. New tonight, you have seen this, wall street Journal Editorial Board written a very strongly worded opinion warning against a longer National Shutdowns and can be economically ruinous for us all. If that something that a lot of people will be reading and talking about tomorrow, trace. Trace kevin corke, becky with breaking news and back to you. Thank you. With the coronavirus pandemic, but now, governor california unveiled an even more ominous scenario and just hours ago issued the statewide stay at home order. Estate as large as ours, nationstate, many parts but at the end of the day where one party. Theres a mutuality in the recognition of the interdependence that requires of this moment that we direct a statewide order for people to stay at home. The directive goes into force and effect to this evening. We are confident, we are confident that the people of the state of california will abide by it. Governor s orders to follow that the letter he wrote to President Trump writing that we project that roughly 56 of the population, 29000000 people will be infected with the virus. He fears more than half of the state could become infected and asking congress for 1 billion to support californias fight against the virus. Live now, newsroom, jeff, a pretty grim morning and do we how Governor Newsom arrived at this . Yes, trace, clarifying that the projection of more than 25 million infected saying it doesnt take into account any mitigation efforts. But he says the number is important at the projection to keep in mind and the residents take action. It will slow the spread of the disease. As a part of the reason why the Governor Newsom has now ordered a stayathome order. They want to keep people away from interacting with one another or at least, reduce it as much as possible. If it doesnt apply to essential workers in fields like emergency services, energy sector, food, drug, people in the communications business. Californians will still be able to go to gas stations, pharmacies, Grocery Stores, banks, get takeout and delivery from restaurants and go to laundromats. The governor said that he realizes its a lot to ask a 40 Million People who call California Home and hes confident they will step up to the plate. Trace social contract here. If people i think recognize the need to do more and to meet the moment. People will self regulate their behaviors and begin to adjust and adapt as they have been quite significantly. Just before the governor mandated the stay and home order, Los Angeles Mayor issued a similar order. If it was not quite as strict as the bay area shelter in place but it did take a my closing down nonessential businesses like retail shops and district limitations on social gathering speed up the concern especially in the heavily populated l. A. Area are the hospitals seeing spikes in patients while you make well over doctors and nurses could handle. We have a Wonderful Health care system here, but the best way to keep it highly functional is to make sure that we dont see that peak of tens of thousands of people that ill need to care at the same time. We want to emphasize, the order does not mean you cant get groceries or food or medicine are gas, this is also recognized as essential in the officials even made a point to let people know they can be outside and go on walks, go on hikes, try to limit how many people youre around and how close you are to them. If trace. Trace you know we hear a lot about this and you and i talked about it before the show, that this just a big difference because you have the statewide mandates hitting stay inside any of the San Francisco shelter in place, one area, one much severe than the rest of the state and is there any indication from either mayor of San Francisco that maybe they equalize the whole state . May be San Francisco lightens up a bit in the coming days . For most of the situation, everyone is taking it day by day, but certainly coming from the governor, that certainly is a little bit more severe than it would be for a municipality but whatever city you are income of those sort of apply. Again, we will see how it plays out and its unprecedented territory. We are all entering end. Trace good advice, thank you again, and gastrointestinal issues could be one of the first signs of the coronavirus. Looking at 204 patients at the epicenter of the Virus Outbreak. 99 arrived at the hospital complaining of one or more at the digestive system while 92 others developed respiratory symptoms along with digestive symptoms. Patients were just digestive issues became more seriously ill and made public thursday. As we mention come on top of the hour, entire state of california is now under a stay at home order, not Surprising Development for the medical experts who have been watching the covid19 outrace efforts to stop it. Keeping an eye on the growing crisis, medical dr. John Hopkins University he joins us here via skype and doctor, scarily, you claim we are about to get hit by another hurricane katrina. But 100 times more deadly. What do you mean exactly by that . Well, trace, we look at the data from china, we know they massively underreported. Thats certainly true in my own experiences calling doctors in china, they say that they have been not even counting the body bags. And then, around was not transparent. But italy has been totally transparent. What we are sitting there, its a preview of what exactly we should expect. Its been frustrating, to be honest with you, trace. At the last month, a lot of opinions out there, a lot of political opinions. If but its really a matter of interpreting facts and data. This is not fantasy football. Its pretty clear. Trace heres what bothered me about this, we just had California Governor Gavin Newsom come out and say half the state could be infected and 68 weeks and then later comes out and says, well, thats if you dont if you dont figure in the mitigating factors. Theres all kind of mitigating factors. In california, a lot of people are saying why would you come out with it alarmist Statement Like that when you know its not correct and you know that there are mitigating factors in the fear is is that you have politicians like you said that her getting people all riled up. Maybe we dont need to go to level ten just yet. When you look the entire planet weve been doing, its all reactionary and it needs to be based more on data. What we need to do is delineate the essential services and nonessential services. Delineate high risk and low risk individuals. We can do that, so i do worry about is sort of blanket policy. On the flip side, its better to be over prepared and look back and say, it wasnt quite as bad as the projection suggested. Yeah, you say that we should maybe move away from saying that we have this number of cases and this number of deaths. But isnt that the way that we figure out the curve are not was back well, when we say theres been x number of deaths or x number of cases eitr here in United States, thats really based on testing. We know testing has been limited and the reality, some doctors and hospitals are telling me they have a number of patients of what they call influenzalike illness which is presumed to be covid19. They just have not done the testing for a lot of reasons. Trace i wonder, because putting the numbers in front of you again, but right now weve got about 14,000 plus cases in california in the United States, and 205 deaths. It shows that the fatality rate is coming down to about 1. 4 . Thats a good thing because last week it was about 2. 5 . If we acknowledge its a good thing or maybe we should Pay Attention to the numbers because they dont tell us anything for weeks and weeks . Id agree with you, trace, the fatality rate is around 1 . Thats based around the diamond princess cruise ship where it was sort of a case study. 705 people got the infection and seven died from the infection. It was slightly an older skewed population but it tells us that the fatality rates are around 1 . The general numbers that we see, even on the hopkins tracker, im not speaking on behalf of of hopkins, but this is just academically, you can multiply those by 1050. We are know they are a subset of cases in the cases. Trace ive heard you say some brilliant things over the past couple days, and i wanted to get your case on all the hype about this malaria drug that can be turned into use against covid19. Are we jumping the gun on this . Is it exciting to you, is it ten chile workable well, trace, we are so hungry for something to treat the virus that i think we are getting very excitable about the idea. But the data is based on the small sample of folks and thats from overseas. I think theres great ideas out there, ive heard from scientists that they want to get new ideas and new drugs out there to patients with the competitorcompassion, but the fa bureaucracy is a bureaucracy, and theres barriers with the president s action today. Trace i think that will change in the coming months. Good visio, trace. Trace bringing out the besbest in some and the worst in others. Handling the crisis, but just the right time to place blame. Just ahead, a look at another epidemic with partisan politics having some dire effects. D. First with no annual service contracts. First with taxes and fees included. Now tmobile has the first and only nationwide 5g network. Reaching over 5,000 cities and towns and over 200 million americans. And tmobile is not charging extra for 5g access. Because this isnt our network. Its yours. Trace the coronavirus is infecting people from coasttocoast but the progress is getting infected with politics. And this is not the first time politics has plagued the Public Health crisis, take for example the yellow fever epidemic of 1793. People started picking medical treatment based on partisan affiliation, choosing either jefferson or hamilton doctors methods. Of the politicallybased medical decision cost lives and should serve as a warning to us today. If more insight on how politics have shaped pandemics, bringing jane hey captain cook, president iahistorianauthor of te white house. Good visio, part of your oped on the screen and followup with that, and given todays polarized climate and lack of id social media, its easy to assume that this is the first time politics has tainted that Public Health crisis and in fact, politics infected the first epidemic and cost lives and with the fact that Alexander Hamilton had yellow fever and later said, look, his doctor was the best in this rival, thomas jefferson, no, no, no my doctor was the best. Right . Thats right, jefferson was the secretary of state and hamilton was the treasury secretary and president george washington. If hamiltons doctor had been in the caribbean, he dealt with the disease before. He had homeopathic treatment by our standards today, but it worked for hamilton and his wife. So hamilton recommended to the board and publicized it in the newspaper and jefferson was going behind his back and saying no, i dont think he was sick, we need to follow my doctors approach and the bloodletting was very common back then where would they would lead to people and we know that doesnt work at all and that just makes it worse. If the cautionary tale for us ty to keep the political tone down. As much as possible to get through the crisis. Trace a talking generically here and youre not fearing that Chuck Schumer is going to say, look, dont use the president s doctor use my doctor. Were talking about a theme overall here, politics gets in and nasties up the water. Exactly, the tone is so much better to what it was a couple months ago. You do see more bipartisanship on capitol hill. I think theres been a lot less sniping than what we have seen in the past over the past couple of years. But its just that tone, and remember, its the medical professionals we need to listen to. End of the politicians that are doing a pretty good job on the whole right now and its gotten a lot better. Its just the tone that you got to really watch the tone. Its me i was fascinating when you are writing about how your mom had polio and polio coming or saying, look, its an example of the fact that we can beat this is a country and we can beat the covid19. Thats right, my mother contracted polio in the late 1940s and what did america do, the Silver Lining that came of the epidemic where the people were becoming paralyzed and just devastating was the marsha to make march of dime and people came together and they pooled their change, the dimes to find the vaccine and what we do cook . We . Eradicated polio and i think its a testament thats lets be on team usa here, to cheer for a community and look for the Silver Lining. As americans, both private personally, but also publicly to see what we can do to get rid of this thing. Trace as a historian, jane, you find through your studies and even anecdotal stuff that maybe it is all to always best to medical crises its also best for politicians to get on the way and let the scientists and doctors lead the way . Yes. I was thinking about hamiltons doctor and how much hon of like the new drug that the residence was talking about and its not been trusted in the fda trial but if its working, with evidence that has been working, thats the dichotomy of medicine is that youve got to look at whats been working and you have to go through the Clinical Trials to make sure its working. And so i think we are listening to the medical community quite well right now. Trace i think we are, by the way, talking about the drug and it was used for malaria effectively in the premises here, talking about fda approval, and it goes back to historical value as well because we done it time and time again. The medicine is safe to fight the malaria and theres nothing that shows it would not be safeo fight covid19. So some are, why not . Thats right, enough, a professional patient at times of my life and that doctors can use thing off label and its been proven safe to work and its not going to do harm, i think thats a lot of it too. If its not good to do harm, lets try to see if we can do some good in a situation and i think thats what the medical professionals are telling us right now to be with this particular medication. Trace do no harm. Jame hampton cook, fascinating debate, thank you so much. Thank you for having me, trace. Of trace the entire country on edge as the coronavirus situation grows worse every day. U. S. Now, with 14,000 confirmed cases. Remember, we knew the cases were going to go up when the testing started to get more while downgraded new york, california getting more robust testing since cases are going to go out. Just a short time ago, that they are out there and were going to see the numbers rise especially in the next three or four days. We have 205 deaths. Of we will not have a good economy as we had a few weeks ago, but were working with congress to provide major additional relief to the workers, more businesses, the hardest hit industry and we want to make sure that everybody is able to continue on. Trace here at the Manhattan Institute senior fellow, joining us by skype from virginia, brian, you saw with the government explaining to give away. Im not sure some of it is welldesigned in the points that are that i do like, ill start with, 300 billion in loans to Small Businesses that will become grants if they maintain their payrolls. Right there, businesses of that size will have no reason to lay people off and essentially the government will be paying the salaries for them for the next three months paid of 200 billion in low interest loans to business sectors, they dont have to pay their to do my payroll tax for the rest of the year. Individual side, the rebates are little bit weirdly design. First off, low income individuals will get less than the middle class, and if he didnt file the eight income tax, you dont get anything. If you had low income, you can have of what people in the middle class get which is kind of weird because a lot of people who are most affected have lower incomes. With higher incomes, but the other thing that makes a bit of a challenge is its all based after 2018 income so if you had a child in 2019, you wont get credit for it. If your Small Business was doing well in 2018 but not now, tough luck for you. Its not perfectly designed, i prefer to see a lot more system to the unemployed in the for load of more directly, but its a start. Trace its a start, you are right, theres a look at the plant and theres leg time and the government is trying to do with the latest information that they have and they like with a step behind. Also, getting your take on california putting the stay at home or at and clearly closing ups are more businesses and being a bigger hit to the economy in california. As a main longer recovery time, what does it mean for businesses three, four, five months down the road . It makes it more important that government provide a backstop because a lot of businesses might be able to make payroll for a couple of weeks, but if you go and to have been three months, it will be impossible for most companies to survive that in your essentially going to need the government to be paying a lot of the costs of the businesses. You need the government paying salaries for them it will get extraordinarily expensive. Thats why we really got to get this solved as soon as possible because the undemocrati economis showing a lot of contrast. Additionally, the job numbers are pretty bad too, hearing us by just 2. 2 million new unemployment applications this week. Trace it is crashing websites around the country because theres so many claims coming up and i want to play the sound bite from an analyst that we talked about and who in the economy is going to be hit the worst and get your response. We anticipate businesses and leisure and hospitality are going to hurt the most. Those businesses are the lowest capital and theyve already run on thin margins and they dont have much bandwidth to hold onto important employees as demand drops off. Theres a lot of unknowns in the situation, the longer the crisis persists, the higher the likelihood of a vicious downward cycle where wages are cut off which means fewer jobs are available which means more wages are cut off and fewer spending. That vicious cycle is what the government is hoping to stem by sending checks directly to peoples homes, and bump up Consumer Spending to create a stopgap. Trace that was andy challenger from Challenger Gray and Christmas Giving their opinion here. The thing that worries a lot of people, you look at cities like orlando, florida, las vegas, service industries. For all intents and purposes, big portion of the cities are shut down and they are major movers, their businesses and theyre not in business right now. Thats a big thing, and the entire conversation. Thats exactly why the government is going to be stepping in. If youre going to have orlando shutdown come out las vegas, and additionally for talking second order of facts, the government of nevada is going to have a hard time raising revenue. They will have a lot of new people who need assistance, but las vegas is its shutdown, if people arent getting paid, casinos not making any money, the hotel started making any money youre going to have ripple effects in state government. One of the next levels i think is going to be an enormous bailouts of state and local governments of all the new demands and theyre just not going to be collecting the taxes. Trace would you think about the 0 loans . We talk about them, but you say, okay, belo coming but what about the joe average running a business and getting 0 loan . Good option for him . Its better than nothing, but the nice thing about the Small Business loan with a 300 billion, it becomes a grant and you keep your payroll and if you dont lay anybody off, cut hours, cut wages it becomes a grant which they need to. Loans are good, but in 36 months its hard to say if youre able to do my payback of a and with 1 million and that youll be paying it off forever. We were going to have to end up having as a lot of grants for a lot of the companies and its going to be very important to maintaining payrolls. Because itll be a lot easier to e people in the current job even if the governments paying the salary to have all the layoffs and in which point, the economy recovers everybody has to go fid a new job and that will slow down the recovery and better to keep them employed and how the government paid a salary in the meantime. Trace good to see you, brian, thank you. Thank you, trace. Thats exactly right, they told people not to panic because Grocery Stores and pharmacies are good to remain open amid all the chaos its unfolding around the world. They tried to implement the restrictions very slowly in israel for the very reason. They did not want people to run to the banks and the groceries in the pharmacies in an effort to try to stock up. Despite the fact, we seem very similar scenes in israel as the United States and many people waiting in line and Grocery Stores trying to ensure that their families have all the necessary items that they are going to need to. The current state of emergency is going to be in place for the next seven days in the Prime Minister did have to go through the israeli connective and to get it approved. Yeah, thats a good point and we saw yesterday, trace, the state department issued a level four do not travel advisory to the American Public, the highest type of advisory that the state Department Issues regarding travel. And thats communicating two types of audiences, the American Public that is still within the United States and might be thinking about traveling outside of the country, and its telling people do not travel outside of the country because you may become stuck in a foreign country. It even worse, you may become sick. If its also to the american citizens that we brought up the return of the american citizens coming from europe the other day we had the long lines at the airport. If the advisories also speaking to those who are still outside of the country saying that we recommend that you return to the United States now because your window is closing and you may not make it back. This is really evolving and not just here in the United States with respect to potential and likely standing travel restrictions, but also in countries around the globe. Trace charles, getting your take on what it is for tsa agents coming back and men and women on the front line and theyre doing the yeomans work and you see them every day and reading this to you, this is from the tsa union person and here their patriotic employees, they just want to do their job and work safe. Support in American Public understands what they are facing right now and theyre afraid and nobody knows or understands the extent of the virus and so everyone is a little bit shaken by it read and thats really true. They have no idea if theyre putting 70 down that if they got the coronavirus, theyre on the front line they should be praised but its a scary time. How do you consult the people . Yeah, it sure is, and really you bring up the tsa example and this is really applicable to all of the First Responders really dont have a choice whether or not they go to work and that they are deemed essential employees and they are there to keep all of us safe and they are there to put themselves at risk everything the days we should be very appreciative of that in the same respect, the government and our rent went of Homeland Security in whatever agency whatever the Department Works for should do everything in their power to make sure that these employees, the First Responders that are keeping us safe are remaining healthy. They need to be protected, issued the appropriate protective gear and they also need to be monitored. Because this really is a example of where covid19 could have a negative direct impact on our overall Homeland Security. We have covid outbreaks amongst the First Responder groups, this is where youre going to have problems. What happened that that ports the other day, 13 major airports that were designated to receive employees, the administration, the administration frankly admitted that they needed to do better with the acting secretary of Homeland Security, and we need to do better. There needs to be better staffing in anticipation of more american citizens were returninm overseas and theres got to be logistics with the airlines and we dont need all of these airlines returning it to the United States at exactly the same time. You know, and the one day or two days, we had approximately 68,000 american citizens return to those 13 airports. Trace charles, its really a good point in the bottom line here is, you dont want to let people in will have the virus when youve got half of the country that are under the state and shelter at place and charles, good to see yo gratis thank you, sir. If we expected to that because we are doing more testing and the number of fatalities in this hour, topping 200 and disturbing numbers released thursday californias governor s ordering a stay at home order for the entire state rate of 40 americans under lockdown. Overconfident come over confident that the people of california will abide by it. Trace hi, everyone, im trace gallagher, 11 00 p. M. Here and 2 00 a. M. In new york city and we begin the hours coverage of the covid19 pandemic in the Nations Capital where there is a glimmer of hope in the desperate race to find a cure. Thursday, President Trump ported the fda to fasttrack Clinical Trials unto drugs that have shown promise in the treatment of coronavirus patients beta doctors warned that even without the red tape, their findings could be months away. Capitol hill, congress came closer to unleashing the trillion dollar Economic Relief package which is expected to put some money in the pockets of hurting families. Of how much, and one, still very uncertain. If this is unemployment claims jumped by more than 280,000. Through it all, a call for action as american volunteers and businesses step up to help feed the hungry and comfort the sick. Grocery chains now donating food to the elderly, and cruise ships can soon begin converting the luxury liners into floating hospitals. Of Small Industries begins applying needed surgical masks. For the weary doctors and nurses on the front line, the coronavirus war such acts of shining humanity cannot possibly come soon enough. Social distancing does not have to mean social disengagement. So give blood. Today. You will feel good about it and youll be helping your country in the community during the crisis. Trace another round of new developments in the coronavirus ward to tell you about this hour, we have reporters standing by here in the u. S. And abroad, and the beginning with White House Correspondent kevin corke and kevin, President Trump ported the fda to step up and what exactly is a demanding . Hes ordering the fda to do everything it can to investigate what you when i had a chance to discuss and thats there is some existing medicines that had treatments for other maladies that may be useful in the battle against the coronavirus. That and obviously continuing to search for any and all possible remedies that can hopefully slow down the spread of the coronavirus moving forward. Meanwhile, long makers here in the Nations Capital tried to make a third time a charm, trace, they continue to look for ways to find a pathway forward for so many people out there and a lot of businesses obviously struggling in individuals who have been laid off. They need money and they need it right away and Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell coronavirus rescue package getting a very strong look tomorrow by g. O. P. And democratic lawmakers. If this is the third such package to move forward and its 1 trillion plus package and including direct financial help for americans, relief for Small Businesses, employees, and new support for Health Care Professionals and coronavirus patients. Earlier today, the president both in the White House Briefing at the stop over at the headquarters was talking about vital plans and bailouts to combat the expanding virus out the to outbreak. That includes u. S. Auto manufacturers who despite the earlier bailouts, back of the financial crisis with 20082009, they may once again need help fofrom the american taxpayer. Were watching it very much, were going to be helping them out at least a little bit. They have sorted if requested some help and it wasnt there for what happened and so we will be taking care of the Auto Industry. Taking care of the Auto Industry, the Airline Industry and by the way, pointing this out, before we let you go for this hour, trace, congressional lawmakers and a great number of them want Strings Attached to any possible revenue that might be utilized a bailout and number of different industries. Also telling you this, the wall street journal out with a very strongly worded opinion from the editorial board. If its essentially saying that we cannot take too long to have the National Shutdown because the overall cost of the shutdown can far exceed the risks to the American Consumers and thats a very interesting piece to read. If you havent had a chance, give it a look, trace. Trace i have, kevin corke, 11 washed and ended up back with you with breaking news. Were frightening enough, but now, now that theyve revealed a more ominous scenario and ours ago issued a statement statewide stay at home order. A watch. Station as large as ours, as many parts, the end of the day we are one body. Theres a mutuality, a recognition of our interdependence requires of this moment that we direct the statewide order for people to stay at home. The directive goes into force and effect this evening, and we are confident we are confident that the people of the state of california will abide by it. Trace Governor Newsoms order follows the letter he sent the President Trump writing and part we project that roughly 56 of the population in 2010 at five and a half billion people will be infected with a virus over an eight week period. Of. Hes asking congress for 1 billion to support californias fight against the virus. Jeff paul is life from the l. A. Newsroom and a pretty grim warning, jeff, we know how he arrived at the numbers . Yes, trace, or leaning the number the 25. 5 million that you just mentioned and in fact, it does not take into account any sort of mitigation efforts m acquiring that but the projection is important to keep in mind to residents take action to slow the spread. Big part of the reason why the governor has now ordered a stay at home order, they want to keep people from interacting with one another or at least reducing it as much as possible and it doesnt apply to essential workers in fields like emergency services, energy sector, food or drug, people in the communications business. Californians will still be able to go to gas stations, parsing to pharmacies, laundromats, Grocery Stores, but its a lot to ask of 40 Million People who call California Home and hes confident they will step up to the plate. Social contract year, people recognize the need to do more and to meet the moment. People will self regulate their behavior and begin to adjust and adapt as they have been quite significantly. If we will have social pressure. The stay at home order, Los Angeles Mayor issued it something similar, wasnt quite as strict as the bay area shelter in place, but it did take at hosing down nonessential businesses like retail shops and strict limitations on social gathering sprayed the concern especially in the heavily populated l. A. Area hospitals could see a spike in patients well over anything doctors and nurses are prepared to handle. I think we have a Wonderful Health care system here, but the best way to keep in highly functional is to actually make sure that we dont see that peak of tens of thousands of people that ill need to care at the same time. We want to emphasize, the order doesnt mean you cant go get groceries or food or medicine or gas, it still recognized as an essential thing that people need to do and the t to let people know that you should go outside, take the walk, go on a hike, but limit how many people youre around at how close you are to them. It trace. Trace jeff paul live with us in los angeles, thank you, and hartig in new jersey were the coronavirus claimed the lives of four families, for Family Members of one family. If a man and two of the sisters died over the past week and 72yearold mother died from the disease on wednesday night and 9 other Family Members have been in quarantined in their homes after testing positive for the coronavirus. They all had prior contact with the deceased Family Members. Well, theres ever a need for highspeed telecommunication, this is the time. The coronavirus it spread to overwhelming doctors and anxiety ridden patients and they find additional relief from the growing technology known as telehealth. Were also announcing a dramatic expansion of the medicare telehealth services. Medicare patients can now visit and a doctor phone or videoconference and no additional cost. A historic breakthrough, this is not been done before. Trace now by skype, the chief medical officer at the hazel health and doctor, the organization is one of the leading providers of the medical care to americans who dont often have easy access and the doctors, how are you coping with the coronavirus operate . Thank you, trace, for having us on and today we understand that schools provide great access to care and they are closing grade theyre closing down. What we are doing and hazel is making sure that we can reach out to families and partner with schools, make sure that we can set up stations and where they can pick ups food and supplies and be there to help them. Also, unique ways where we can reach out to them outside of schools and give them. Trace im curious, the telemedicine is it for all patients or just a select few patients . Could you expended to more and more patients as the virus gro grows . That the great question, and over the last ten years, everyone has heard about telehealth. Right now, with telehealth and within the pandemic is to keep people out of the hospital. There are many conditions that can be seen virtually with broadband or technology, peripherals, equipment, diagnose and treat many conditions virtually and the key here now is to keep people out of the icu in the e. R. And really allow our First Responders to do their job trace yeah, you talk about telehealth and playing the sound bite, a couple of doctors were actively practicing telehealth and get your response. Watch this. So we have all those before i get on the phone with you so i know how to get it. We dont have the protective equipment to protect ourselves as we come in with people who expected to have coronavirus. She went to community, or taking aggressive and strict measures p people to coming into establishments because we want to make sure we want to flatten the curve as weve all been hearing. Trace went on the flip side, there has to be for the patients, theres got to be anxiety for people who are in essence faced timing their doctor. If you feel like, well, how does he know that im sick, how does he or she know that im feeling well and they cant listen to my heartbeat, cant hear me breathing. If theres got to be anxiety. How do you calm the people and kind of reassure them . In the pandemic, people really want information and what they want is to talk to their doctor. Right now, when you talk to the people, they cant get it. They cant get pain, theres a long wait, days if not weeks, what they want to hear, the doctor who knows them. Doctors who understand the history, understand that their past condition, and they understand that, you know, they can get treatment and weve had children who have had asthma we need their inhaler and parents are concerned about taking them into the office to get sick. So, yes, we can definitely observe and treat and having the connection to the provider as we are talking right now is to get help and relief freedom trace it has been apparent to me with some of the medical news that we report has effective and fronting people and the report coming out that people with type a blood are more prone to getting coronavirus and today, if you have intestinal problems that could be one of the first symptoms and tomorrow it might be listen, if you have green eyes, be careful and people are freaked about at this, doctor, what do we do with all the information . Do we say, listen, theres got to be a voice of reason in the wilderness somehow. Youre exactly right, and health professionals, or getting direction from the global state department, health departments, understanding what the states have given as well as the federal government and taking all that information and what were doing is processing and, were on the ground with the department and with our colleagues and understanding whats going on with the virus in getting the information to our patients who come to us in care. Trace im curious, under the certain neighborhoods and the kids, wrapping up with that, is this a growing and have you noticed as we see cases go up, the growing demand where families are saying, look, i really cant afford day care and so forth i need the telehealth. Is that something we are going to see more in the coming days and weeks . Without a doubt. I think all families are stressed. All of them, working parents, working from home with children who cant go to school, everyone is stressed in your exactly right. Low income areas, there stressed even more and so what we are trying to do, what were doing is reaching out to them in providing the care, the screening, telling the information they need to can soy can have one less thing to worry about. Trace your common voice, appreciate you staying up with us. Thank you for having me, trace. Trace purchasing social distancing event the spread of coronavirus, nurses, doctors, First Responders that they are to take care of those already sense and they dont always have the right protective gear. Health care professionals are trying to cope with anxiety and the danger of their jobs and the many falling in love with a virus themselves. While caring for the patients. Watching how the coronavirus is affecting caretakers, youre on the front line, its got to be anxiety ridden and were talking about this with tsa people and no idea whos coming through and a lot of First Responders and medical people, they know that the patients might have coronavirus but they have to treat them. How do you deal with that . First of all, thank you for having me on and the front line anesthesiologist, emergency room physicians, nurses, providers are really dealing with this handson and all hands on deck. They are knowledgeable, capable, they have the capacity to deal with this. But what is lacking our resources and we are hearing this from the front line from the caretakers and frontline providers that they need the resources. Thats really what so critically important, getting the care to the patients immediately, they need to protect themselves while theyre actually taking care of the patients. Trace i want to reduce the quote, from dr. Steven anderson, 35 year veteran in the Emergency Rooms of a suburb of seattle, one of the hardest hit areas in the country and he says most decisions have never seen this level of anxiety in their career. Im sort of the pariah and my family, im dipping myself into the swamp every day and you can imagine if daddy comes home with the coronavirus patients all day and you get it, right, im not really sure its a good time to have brother stephen over for dinner this weekend. Right. This is a story thats being told many households all over the United States and this is going to begin to come up more frequently. I have to tell you, that the stories are incredible. I think that to your point, we really have to find a way forward to. There is hope, i really do believe that the United States Health Care System is the Global Leader in Public Health. We can overcome this. We do need the resources, we do need to bring all of the people that we have together. That means getting the ventilators, getting the medication, and in hospital beds. Redistributing protective equipment, those are the thing that the frontline providers need to. In ensuring that we get a vaccine. As soon as possible. In the state of california, were working very hard to do that and to develop the partnerships, but those are critical steps we need right now. It must be one doctor, i want to show you the quote as well and this is from the national, at the heart is aching and that they know that theres no reason for this. They love taking care of crisis, thats what they do, but did not have the protections that they need in order to do it is becoming increasingly frustrating and there working with an adequate protections ranging from head covers, ventilators, covering their legs and feet but given a surgical mask, a pair of surgical gloves and this is not going to protect the nurse and its not going to protect anybody else. Yet these people wrist through the back refused to do the job,y are considered nonteam players. These are stories coming out from around the United States from all kinds of Health Care Providers but i want to emphasize this is the opportunity really to develop the public private, to innovate and to really look at this as an opportunity to be innovative. To think through this, and how can we be creative. Although, we dont have the resources, but around the world individuals are struggling with the resources and they are innovating and again, this is the opportunity to really find a way forward. Trace are you seeing that, and im wondering because we have different fields and everybody, are you seeing in your field some astounding innovation that we could be using it down the line for people coming forward that that you never thought coming forward and being valuable in this type of crisis . Are you seeing some of those things in your field . Absolutely, absolutely, all kinds of innovation from Drug Development which is clearly in media right now but outside of that, people with supplies and we are hearing about 3d printing of masks. We are hearing about people willing to put forward all kinds of products to protect our frontline providers. But they need to be more innovation, more creativity we need to put our provider safety alongside our Patient Safety as well. Trace who do we reach out to you, doctor, when there needs to be more and were not reaching out to that we should be reaching out to try to get us all on the same page . Right, look, state, federal, local leaders in the medical and professional societies are working very closely together. To figure out the way forward and i think its very important that providers work with their health system, the local community to get collaboration and to get out there and talk about it. Because thats how were going to get the word out on how to solve the innovations and collaborate and work together. We have to go here, but if you have any self calming tips before we leave. To your point, its a stressful time and i would emphasize that being calm and being focused, we will get through this. Again, we are a Global Leader is the United States and Public Health and this is not unprecedented. We will overcome it. Trace doctor, good of you to join us, thank you so much. Thank you. Trace europe has been especially hard with the coronavirus, spain is now only second to italy when it comes to confirmed cases there. I had to, hearing from a Small Business owner who is being quarantined as we speak in spaid the troubles that hes going through next. Trace over 14,000 confirmed cases of covid19 in the u. S. , the numbers climb people from coasttocoast are choosing to stay home. Of the biggest cities in the world still have plenty of people, but really hard to tell when everybody is inside their homes. With that social distancing, stockpiling becoming the new normal, it appears most americans are playing by the rules and hoping for the best. Ashley here from new york newsroom. Yes, the virus isnt giving up as far as the number of lives it just keeps climbing across the nation. Showing you a graph that depicts the numbers out there and stay with me here, i told you last night there was a 150 deaths in the last beta now, just 24 hours later, the number sits at 205. If right now, the number of deaths in new york state is 38 when last night it was 20. Also last night i told you that the family of seven in new jersey on hit very hard from ththe by the virus and they gott from a recent family together but tonight, it killed the fourth Family Member and has three other members of the same family in Critical Condition at the hospital. Washington state has been hit the hardest by the virus according to the washington dime, funerals and the state has now been banned and considered a social gathering. Kentucky followed suit and put it in place as well, as far as the state of california is concerned, it shows that have the entire state will contract the virus if the order to stay at home is not obeyed. According to john hopkins, 742 people in new jersey contracted covid19 and in the state of new york, surpassing 5700 cases and those are very startling numbers. Trace it keeps climbing, actually, thank you. If startling new headlines from italy, the number of deaths from the coronavirus now surpassing that of china and last count, italy reported more than 3400 deaths and the highest hole in europe. Spain also hit hard with some 18,000 confirmed cases and 830 deaths. At barcelona International Airport still operating but traffic is down to a minimum with only a few flights in operation. All restaurants and shops are closed. Going out of spain, joined here, currently under quarantine, dean, it sounds to me like the quarantine and spain is very much like the stay inside your home mandate here in california. Hows it going here for you . Its going well, were in total lockdown right now. At the president initiated the state of emergency on the 14th. So all businesses, schools have been shut down and everybody is obligated to stay home. The only thing thats open at this time are certain supermarkets, pharmacies, other than that, people seem to be off the street. Trace i know this is affecting your business he had to shut your business down and so forth. How is that . Has a giving you education of how long it might last and do you have a plan b . To be honest with you, i think everybody is kind of up in the air right now. Im a Small Business, and in spain, i dont get any assistance with insurance, with Insurance Plan whatsoever. Theyre estimating right now that the quarantine will be about two weeks. Some have even said up to two months. At the government is making the strides trying to offset some of the damage economically. Right now, i dont know exactly what words you going to do, buty more employees are at risk strata trace the country makes it difficult to lay off employees in these times and expend that for us. Its important to understand hiring employees in spain, if the sign a contract with them. The contracts themselves can be temporary, they can be close to a one year, or indefinite and they have quite a few regulations to protect employees here. With the government now is doing has opted to introduce what we call, what it means if you suspend a drug with an employee , and they will receive about 50 of their salary. And its helping businesses, and i myself right now dont see it helping me very much. Trace thats rough, im curious about the whole concept of the shutdown in spain. And going to california, they say its a misdemeanor if you violate the state in your house, the shelter and place thing. Is it more strict in spain . Do you notice any type of police presence, military presence that are telling people to stay inside your house or else how is it being handled legally over there . Absolutely, taken very seriously and the local police are enforcing the mandate. They have ticketed about 76 people since the onset. If funds run anywhere from 300 to 1,000 euros. So its no joke at their serious. Trace emotionally, hows your your family, and its good information for people and other states that are kind of to go through with this. How is your family emotionally holding up to all this . Well, emotionally, i think that we are fine. We can go out and buy groceries, walk the dog. We had that option, otherwise, we have to be inside. Ive two boys 12 and 14 years of age, but they are busy with school work. Theyre making it mandatory for them to put forward studies they have to get in at a certain ti time. Online, taking pictures to get it submitted to the teachers. They are pretty busy. Other than that, im starting to climb the walls and catching up on a lot of reading. Just across the mediterranean from italy, spain continues to get hit hard with the outbreak. Spanish authorities ordered the closure of all hotels in the country. Thursday, barcelona airport disaffected by the army and spain faces more than 60,000 active cases. If spanish civilians remain unlocked on orders as officials and madrid said they expect 80 of the entire population to get covid19. It appears to be returning to normal in life with china. And reports indicate the entire country under 7,000 active cases with more than 70,000 people having recovered. If no new cases are being recorded and chinas wuhan province where the outbreak started braided images show chinese civilians being released from a hospital and those are the questions are rising about how honest the government there is being about the number of positive causes. Prime minister released a estate of a merchant, 9 million population is being ordered to stay at home or he face heavy police. 700 tested positive for the virus in a portion of the group are staying in quarantine monitored by the army. Heres what he had to say overnight. The government will approve regulations for restricted movement. Within the restrictions, the citizens of israel a risk required to stay at home. Now its no longer a request, its not a recommendation, its a mandatory directive that will be enforced by law enforcement. To give you a sense of what its like on the ground here in israel today, on the drive from the city to the bureau here injury list tojerusalem, the streets were almost apocalyptic and an expressway normally filled with cars that had long stretches of completely empty roads. If this is something wed never seen here in israel since we have been covering the middle east for almost 20 years of the debris oro and fox. Trace. Trace i heard he said it would be mandatory and we just talked last segment in spain and theyre actively out there enforcing the quarantine and you get the same feel and its mandatory military and you see police on the streets, military people on the streets and forcing the curfew. Whats the mood there . You see a lot of police enforcing the curfew or in israel, trace, we we have seen specifically in the city as many of the beaches have been closed and the police are patrolling the beaches because originally come up with the orders went out, asking people to stay at home to avoid the Community Spread of the coronavirus, many people ignore the order. If you saw similar on the beaches as we saw the beaches in florida in the United States with people going about their daily lives not necessarily taking the orders seriously. Ultimately, the Prime Minister got the help of the police to try to enforce many of the measures in the Israeli Military though reserving the right to enforce heavier messages if needed if Israeli Defense forces briefed reporters sing their helping to participate in the process. One important thing to note he here, authorities have enacted that the of Intelligent Services to enforce a basically quarantine level information campaign. What this means, if someone has come in contact with somebody who possessed a positive for the coronavirus, they will receive a text message from the Israeli Health and administration and provided by the Intelligent Services to tell people hey, yoe encountered somebody who is poso quarantine a home immediately. But i agree with you totally, its good to see that it wasnt even up 1,000 points, it was a slow or move to the upside and bringing it back to some sort of normalcy. Trace highfrequency traders that are causing all the upanddown a. S. , can we get them on the phone to tell them to knock it off . Good luck with that, theyre right next to politicians here and im not a big fan of the Business Model as anybody else is. If theres calls now, the government and the sec is talking about bringing the uptick and a little bit on the confusing side and not allowing these guys to short stocks unless there is a trade on the upside. Trace i went to play the sound bite if i can mccrays, don mike, chris, but what the impact will be and get your response on the flip side. Week continued to go through a undulation pattern with multiple Percentage Points and down a similar amount and i think technicians are getting to the point where they are saying you know what, the rubber band has been stretched far enough. As a result, were likely to see at least a relief rally take place in the days or weeks ahe ahead. Certainly, the government is making every effort to do as much as it can tooth the words of the economic impact. That will later be seen with the economic process as well. Trace chris if this baseball with a really caps on backward and generating a little bit of mojo for a bit of good a portion of it abroad. Of once the all clear song comes on and this is the realit, once Everybody Knows i can go back to work were going to see n before. If all over the country, most of the smaller business owners, theyre not concerned about ther accounts, but theyre worried about their workers come the employees and whether or not they will be able to keep them on and whether or not they will be able to handle the health insurance. Thats what they care about right now. Once we know that they can go back to work, youre going to see a relief rally. Trace what about you, chris, are you concerned about the california stay at home mandate and more businesses closing and might kind of extend the pain a little bit longer . I think you can put this type of thing on and if i understand that, you have to say, okay, we are going back to work in 30 days, 45 days, whatever it may be. If people can make plans then, you cant leave Something Like this openended and you can keep the United States shut down for too long of a period of time. Trace thats the question, how long can the economy take this . It would be great because all people really need is some light at the end of the title and thats what humans do, if they see light at the end of the tunnel they can hunker down and persevere but when its endless, its really hard to stay motivated. Your very astute in your observation agree with you 110 , they have to put some light at the end of the tunnel and we are doing it for this lot and that everybody goes back to work. Trace we got to go here, but do you theyre going to do more in the days and weeks ahead than theyve been doing now . Or not, theyre battling out the how much money, how much is going to go out to people and i dont think thats a bad thing, its just about the number and theyre going to do how what they have to do in this point in time and on american workers, not Small Business workers. Trace chris, good of you. Thank you. Continuing coverage of the global pandemic. Im trace gallagher. We will see you after the break. Co th taxes and fees included. In the us alone the number of cases skyrocketing up a third in the past 24 hours. The number of fatalities, 205. California issued a stay at home order that will affect 40 Million People. Experts tell us it will only get worse but we are encouraged not to panic. We have misinformation and fear and panic which is as contagious or more contagious than the virus. Trace it is midnight on the west coast, 3 00 am in new york. We will cover Fast Breaking headlines about the killer disease, we begin in our Nations Capital where there is a glimmer of hope in a desperate race to find a cure. Yesterday donald trump ordered the fda to fasttrack Clinical Trials on the treatment of coronavirus patients but doctors worn even without the red tape their findings could be months away. Congress came closer to unleashing its Economic Relief package which is expected to put some money in the pockets of hurting families. How much, when still very uncertain. The says unemployment claims jump by 280,000. Through it all the call for action is american volunteers and businesses step up to feed the hungry and comfort the sick, grocery chains donating food to the elderly. Cruise ships could begin converting their luxury liners into floating hospitals while industries begins supplying badly needed surgical masks. For the weary doctors and nurses on the front lines such acts of shining humanity cannot possibly come soon enough. Social distancing does not have to mean social disengagement. To give blood today. You will feel good about it and you will be helping your country and your community during the crisis. Another round of new developments to tell you about. We have a team of reporters standing by in the us and abroad. Donald trump ordering the fda to step up and he is demanding what exactly. What he is effectively doing is urging them to aggressively pursue more fasttrack. This Clinical Trial of a number of existing compounds that have been used in different circumstances to see if they might be effective in combating the coronavirus, the sort of testing that happens over time but it is happening more quickly and that is a huge benefit for the American Public. There are a number of leaders on capitol hill but are very interested in an antimalarial drug that might be enough label treatment for the virus and something lawmakers have been pushing for some time. That does continue even as they debate an anticoronavirus package, the one 1 trillion, multitrillion dollar package that would include direct financial help for americans, relief for Small Businesses and their employees and new support for Healthcare Professionals and coronavirus patients. Yesterday the president acknowledged the need for more industry bailouts is key economic drivers like transportation and Hospitality Industries stall things to widespread shutdowns all over the country and there are new worries the us auto manufacturers despite an earlier bailout following the financial crisis of 2008 may again need help from american taxpayers. Watching the Auto Industry very much, we will be helping them out at least a little bit and they requested some help. It wasnt their fault what happens so we will take care of the Auto Industry. A lot of people on capitol hill want Strings Attached to any bailout money that might happen to go to these industries. The buybacks that typically help ceos, there are those hoping there would be bailout restrictions and the president is open to that. I want to draw your attention to an editorial in the wall street journal, you had a chance to read it. Leaving the country on shutdown for too long could hurt us much more in the long run in the wall street journal. Trace a financial expert agrees with that. The coronavirus is wreaking economic havoc with businesses being closed to the downside. Number of americans filing new claims for Unemployment Benefits hitting a level last seen with hurricane harvey. 281,000 new claims were filed last week, people losing jobs from restaurants, bars, airlines, hotel workers, firsttime unemployment claims could reach 1 million in the next few weeks. The medical experts warning about the severity of the pandemic are frightening enough but now the governor of california has unveiled an even more ominous scenario and just hours ago issued a statewide stayathome order. Estate as large as ours is many parts but we are one body. There is a mutuality of the recognition of our interdependence that requires of this moment that we direct a statewide order for people to stay at home. That directive goes in force this evening and we are confident the people of the state of california will abide by it. Reporter the order follows a letter he sent to donald trump, writing in part we projects roughly 56 of our population will be infected with the virus over an 8 week. Go with fears that half the state to become infected and asking congress for 1 billion to support californias fight against the virus. Jeff paul in the los angeles newsroom, a grim morning. Do we know how the governor arrived at these numbers . We dug into that and are learning that number, 25. 5 million infected doesnt take into account any effort to stop the spread. Governments and clarifying that and saying the projection is important to keep in mind so residents take action. Thats why the governor has ordered a stayathome order. That want to keep people from interacting with one another or at least reducing it as much as possible. It doesnt apply to essential workers in fields like emergency services, the energy sector, food and drug or communication business, californians will still be able to go out to gas stations, pharmaceutical stores, banks, delivery restaurants and laundromats. Governor realizes it is a lot to ask of 40 Million People who call California Home, he is confident they will step up to the plate. The social contract here, people recognize the need to do more to meet this moment. People will selfregulating their behavior, begin to adjust and adapt as they have been significantly. Los angeles mayor Eric Garcetti should something similar, not quite as strict as the bay area sheltering placement took aim at closing down nonessential businesses like retail shops and put strict limitations on social gatherings, the concern especially in heavily populated los angeles that hospitals can start to see a spike in patients well over anything doctors or nurses are prepared to handle. A Wonderful Healthcare system but the best way to keep it functional is to make sure we dont see the peak of tens of thousands of people who need care at the same time. We want to emphasize with all the images and videos of people lining up at costco Grocery Stores, the order does not mean you cant go back out and get groceries, food, gas, medicine. That is still recognized as essential and officials let people know, be outside, go on walks, but on hikes, be active but limit how many people you are around and how close you are getting to them. Is in most global disasters, it is the poor who bear the brunt of the storm. The coronavirus rampage no exception, heartbreaking images from the hungary and border show migrants being turned away because of fears that they could bring on the coronavirus. There only refuge, no medical assistance or much water. This is a familiar scene across Eastern Europe and the middle east. In grand rapids, michigan, Bethany Christian services, the organization has been providing what comfort it cant orphans and refugees around the world. How do you see the virus affecting people you help the most, the poor, the refugees, the underserved . Thanks for having me on, great question. These people were living in a fragile environment, think of the most fragile person you can imagine, that is them. Their world got rocked and became more fragile. People who have lack of access to basic food, basic sanitation services, water just became more in jeopardy and people who are living in camps are at close quarters, they dont have the ability to wash their hands, dont have the ability to isolate themselves from others, their world became more fragile and especially when we see the virus it camps the situation is going to get much worse. In the intro we were playing pictures from hungry and we see some of these heartrending images from syria. Where else are we looking around the world . We know what is happening in italy, the death toll. From your perspective where else should the world be paying attention . We are in the middle of the biggest refugee crisis we have ever seen. This was even before the pandemic. 71 Million People displaced, more than we have ever had in history, 28 million were pushed outside the borders of their own countries so they were living in a fragile environment. Think of south sudan, the syria crisis, and you have these vulnerable groups across the globe that have been pushed out of their countries into refugee camps, unsanitary conditions and they are the vulnerable, the most vulnerable across the globe. Thats why were here, this is a time for people of faith and christians to step up and serve and not act out of fear but out of leadership knowing this is what we are called to do. Trace you look around the world and see europe and open border policies starting to crack down. The situation you talk about will only get worse because of fear, these borders have to be closed. You will see more of that around the world. Is there a solution you see on the horizon that might help . I encourage people to step up especially people of faith, the christian community. This is our chance to act. Get involved. Maybe you know what church in a latin American Country that is doing something, partner with organizations working with refugees. There is bethany, world relief, food for the hungry, many faithbased organizations serving these refugees. I would say get involved, there is hope. We dont talk enough about this but what about the foster programs in this country . Sometimes there is a fear, lets back off and not get involved. That is a big contingent around the country. How do you deal with that . Absolutely. Bethany works in 3 ways, vulnerable kids in the us, refugees and immigrants, the us and the foster care system we have seen the need increase exponentially. We have 400,000 kids in the foster care system and their needs have changed, they have become more fragile. Their world became more fragile. We need people to step up. We need people to not act out of fear but did involved, find out how to help out in the United States. There are ways to do it. I encourage people this is the time to do something. On that note it is about healthcare. It is all about healthcare. Do you worry about these underserved people that are not getting the healthcare they should be getting and families on top of that . Absolutely. We are talking about the most vulnerable. Even before this crisis they lacked basic food, basic healthcare. They lacked everything. We are greatly concerned and believe this is the time for organizations, churches, people to step up and serve. A great opportunity and we consider ourselves in matthew 25 organization, that means we are called to serve ignored and forgotten. This is the time to serve the ignored and forgotten because they are the most vulnerable in the us and globally. Trace best of luck to you. The question becomes what happens as the coronavirus goes on . What happens when First Responders start getting 6, when the doctors start getting sick . What do we do then . Some answers on the other side of the break. A lot of folks ask me why their dishwasher doesnt get everything clean. I tell them, it may be your detergent. Thats why more dishwasher brands recommend cascade platinum. With the soaking, scrubbing and rinsing built right in. For sparklingclean dishes, the first time. Cascade platinum. Well now theres score , time. From force factor, enin. To rev your libido and maximize physical response. Its no wonder walmart offers score in more locations than any other performance enhancer. Unleash your potential in the bedroom, with score . Trace people are flocking to stores to panic by the greatest resource to stockpile is toilet paper, personal protective equipment to certain to run out and we have not begun to flatten the curve. Doctors and nurses are stretched thin. What happens if they start getting sick . With 14,000 cases of covid19 in the us, hospitals are nearing capacity leaving Healthcare Professionals overwork and overexposed to the virus. For insight how to protect the workforce, doctor mark merman is founder and ceo of them the one. That is the original question was what happens when the First Responders, paramedics, emts and nurses start getting sick . Thank you for having me. Difficult question to answer. We need to protect our Healthcare Professionals, the people on the front lines. That is why we need to take the surgical masks, the gowns, focus as much as possible on the people on the front lines, hoarding the supplies is not what we want to see. We are asking anybody with extra supplies to help distribute it to local Police Department and Fire Departments. Trace this plea has been out there a few days. Are you see the response . Are people coming forward or does more need to be done . Are we seeing any movement on this issue . I have had a few people call me and say we have extra supplies in our home that we bought initially and we have heard you speak and think we could do some to our local Fire Departments and we are trying to help distribute it throughout the community. Community firehouses and community Police Departments. Trace have the rules changed how First Responders are supposed to respond to people who may or may not be infected with coronavirus . They changed a lot. We used to take masks and switch them between every single patient. We are not doing that anymore. According to cdc guidelines we are Wearing Masks for 8 hours, focusing more on surgical masks, if theyre not taking enough treatments, we are trying to gown up more routinely than ever before. We doing everything we can to keep Healthcare Providers as healthy as possible. Firehouses and Police Departments trying to limit the number of people who walk into these buildings as routinely as possible so they dont infect officers, firefighters and paramedics. What happens if it is confirmed you have First Responders who did come in contact with somebody who tests positive for coronavirus, what is the next step for them . Are they quarantines . Are they checked . What happens . Traditionally we quarantine people and follow the state quarantine policy and check their temperatures generally twice a day and focus as much as we can on self quarantining and letting us know when they are sick, trying to keep people healthy, a large attempt we are doing through the United States, we need to keep these people working to keep responding to regular 9 one one calls that have nothing to do with coronavirus. You are an expert in emergency medicine. How do you calm people that believe they have coronavirus . People see reports in the media and that is me, ive got it. How do you calm down . What is the calling force you are sending to most americans . Great question. We are emergency medicine doctors, we go outside the hospital and work with police and ems. We are used to uncontrolled environments where there are major stress issues and we call people down for a living. We tell general people and Healthcare Professionals they need to stop thinking about this a few minutes a day. It is hard to get away from the television and radio. We tell folks to go outside, take a walk, talk to your neighbors, keep social distancing between people but for a few minutes a day you need to stop thinking about the external factors around you. Try to exercise, keep eating right, followed good nutrition, we need to keep as healthy as possible and reduce stress as much as possible at home. Rob we are on television now but you have to get away from the media because i was telling Somebody Just yesterday we were talking about if you are type a you could be more prone to coronavirus. If you have an intestinal problem that could be the first symptom of coronavirus and nobody knows what will come out tomorrow but it is going to scare the daylights out of half the country. We are used to dealing with these disasters unfortunately. These novel viruses, this might not be our last one. We need to think about how to prepare for the next virus. Stress is an important contribution to being sick. We need to reduce that stress and that makes the virus more common among people. Eating right and trying to have a few minutes of a stress free day is important. The skype thing lasted to the perfect moment, great information, thanks for coming on, we appreciate it. We talk about sports in this country, a number of nba players have tested positive for coronavirus. We also know march madness is gone, the Kentucky Derby postponed and a lot of other events. What around the world . Up next we talk to a sportscaster in spain who is quarantines and broadcasting the nba on a regular basis and now he cant do that. For the latest on how coronavirus is impacting the us, lets go to ashley. The number of lives it keeps claiming across the nation. We will show you how bad it is affecting the us. Stick with me as i go through those. I told you roughly 160 deaths in the us, 24 hours later the number sits at 205. The number of deaths in new york state, over 20. A family of 7 in new jersey got hit very hard with the coronavirus, killed three of them. They got this virus from a recent family gathering. It is now known the fourth Family Member has died in two members of the same family in Critical Condition at the hospital. Washington state has been hit the hardest. According to the Washington Times, considered a social gathering, kentucky following suit. Tough days for sports fans around the globe, events, matches and championships sidelined by coronavirus and no telling when our hometown heroes will play ball again. To talk about the effects of the Global Sports industry. Like many of his countrymen he is and team. We should begin with that. How are you and your family dealing with the quarantine and are you well . Good morning from madrid. This is the main focus of the coronavirus. We dont know what is going to happen next. Thank you for asking. We are worried because it affects not only elderly people but young people so we are very worried. We are also being critical with ourselves because maybe at the beginning we didnt take this seriously. You said you think the government is being too strict, you dont think this extensive kind of shelter in place order is necessary is that a Fair Assessment . Of course it is necessary. It should happen to be for this. We didnt take this seriously. This is the seventh day of the state of alarm and we have to start before this. The sector that started the quarantine at the end. Trace you project the nba games. How big is it in spain, the nba, how much do you miss it and how much do the fans precedent to you see them going back to the games when they start up again . We are waiting to resume the activities. The nba in spain is huge, we are one of the most important markets for the nba, people at 3 am, 4 am, it is a big deal but not only the nba but the soccer euro cup could be postponed, especially the olympic games. A lot of controversy about the olympic games. It doesnt make sense, there has been no time for trial or classification, a huge disadvantage from countries like spain. That was my next question. I know the olympics are huge deal clearly around the world but you talk about athletes, preparation and so forth in the quarantines, shelter in place are different in various countries so the fairness level of all the countries and some of the quarantine, you have a fairness issue there about some countries that dont have the strict measures and some that do and the athletes are not getting the equal advantage of preparation. Is that true . 40 to qualify for the olympics. In the trial and qualifications around has it started but as you say it is not the same criteria as the rest of the others and we have tens of millions of money so the International Olympic committee will be celebrated, the experts in europe agree this is not fair. What is the next shoe to drop in spain . Are you waiting for another event to be canceled are waiting for a big event not to be canceled . What is the next thing that falls as dominoes go in spain . The quarantine will last two months or more. They are saying 15 days probably two month. We have to think in houston they cannot compete immediately. The best scenario the most optimistic will be the middle of may. The championship league, everything, the activities at the end of june. Contracts are at the end of the system. It is uncertainty and we are concerned. In the olympic committee. Trace when the games start back up to the fans come back or are they afraid to sit close to other fans . Lets think about this. There will be closed doors first but if this happens, sports will be the sector that starts, the funds, people who want to go to the arena again. Cross your fingers, best of luck to you and your family, we hope everyone stays well. Thank you for your insight, it was fascinating. All over the world, thank you so much. Its funny because we talk about sports being shut down, we talk about stores being shutdown. What about the courts, have you thought about the court system in america because the courts are filled and all these people, judges wondering do you send prisoners or defendants to jail when you know the jails might not be so safe . We will talk to somebody about that coming up next. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Stay home when you are sick. Cover your cough or sneeze. The borders around israel such as syria, lebanon and gaza have been relatively quiet for the past week. Israelis are not unfamiliar with sheltering in place, think to the second intifada in 2002 and the war with hezbollah in 2007 they have many times been told to stay inside not because of virus but because of weapons. It is not an unusual thing but its still a big change for the people over there. Exactly of the israeli people like you mentioned are used to living amid chaos. They face threats from iranian proxies in places like lebanon, you mentioned hezbollah, the gaza strip, very close to israelis, has become part of daily life, often times when a small conflict as it will be a few days there ordered in a certain part of the country not to leave their homes. They are familiar operating in the chaos that this invisible enemy is the Trump Administration has never into the coronavirus as is new to the israelis and they are trying to use of the technology, intelligence and military assets at hand to combat this virus. Thank you. If your defense attorney are always trying to keep your client out of jail. Social distancing keeping americans off the street and perhaps off the jury. Fears over coronavirus hitting the criminal Justice System, worrying that judges and jurors will rush to judgment to avoid being in court and concerned about statute of limitations and speedy trial rights mounting up putting Constitutional Rights in a quagmire. Some prisoners are being released early to prevent the virus from spreading. To look at how this is affecting the criminal Justice System we talk to a criminal defense attorney. If you are a defense attorney, ive got to keep my client out of jail because that might not be the best place to send somebody with an underlying condition. A terrible situation. We have clients convicted of a crime but held in prison in jails that havent even been made to be sanitary. The issue is the holding is indefinite. We dont know when people will be released. There are no answers. Forget the right to a speedy trial. People just want to get out. Defense attorneys are searching for answers, nobody to respond, nobody knows anything. Going to court, people are freaked out there too, juries dont want to stay together, defense lawyers sidebyside, people in court, what is that like you is there an urgency to get in and get out . 100 , nobody wants to be there. It is difficult for prosecutors, for Defense Attorneys and the judge, nobody wants to be in that room, people are rushing to judgment, just the terrible situation, this is not the way the Justice System was made and built. The soundbite is from accrual defense attorney talking about the delays, time delays. Watch this. Significant impact, cases that are considered nonessential are being continued for months right now. The defense is not had a chance to tell our case and the judge sent the jury home for 5 weeks, attorneys will be suffering too but the most important thing is safety. The work will always come back. The work will come back but is this true . Do you feel attorneys will suffer in this . For sure. There are no safeguards in place for going to court, not much anybody can do. You dont know who is infected who is not. Going back to people in jail we are hearing the guards are testing positive, clients doing anything they can, begging to be let out. A lot of our clients are innocent, havent even been convicted, they are sitting in a so hopeless and cant do anything. Trace what are their rights when there might be a Health Threat and they havent been convicted . Do they have Due Process Rights they can lean on .
