Mayor and the Justice Department were involved in that decision, but that no one could foresee the size and aggressiveness of the crowd. Wednesday, the world watches as a mob of rioters appeared to roam freely in the u. S. Capitol looting symbols of american democracy along the way. Five are dead including a police officer. A couple of interesting things from the Joe Biden Press conference, bill. We missed the walkaway question from peter doocy. The fact that joe biden seems to be in no rush to push this idea of impeachment on 25th amendment action is the fastest way to remove President Trump from office, just get to the 20th of january and swear him in as president. Any other action before or after he leaves he said is up to congress. He also said that he was glad that the president was not coming to the inauguration but that the Vice President was welcome to come. So far no decision for sure yet from the Vice President s office about whether mike pence will attend the inauguration. There are early indications that he will be there at noon on the 20th. They just want to make it through the next 11 or 12 days and come out the other side. Theres concern among members of the cabinet as to where this is headed. We saw the resignations of betsy devos and elaine chao and members of the cabinet have been reaching out through the Vice President to see if the president will convene a final Cabinet Meeting to get a sense of how the next few days will unfold and review their accomplishments the last four years. In terms of the 25th amendment, im told by multiple sources theres no appetite for that at the white house. Pat cipallone said you cannot use the 25th amendment as an substitute for impeachment. Nancy pelosi saying she will impeach the president if he doesnt resign. Whereas yesterday she said that the president doesnt invoke the 25th amendment. A lot of business to get done. The white house hopes to get the president focused on that in the next week. See if that happens. Bill thanks, john. Fox news confirming House Democrats expect to introduce articles of impeachment monday for a second time. How realistic is this . Chad pergram picks up that story from the hill. What do you have, chad . You know, it possible, bill, that we could have articles of impeachment up middle of next week on the house floor. The house of representatives is supposed to be out of session. Nancy pelosi made it very clear that she wants the cabinet to invoke the 25th amendment. If they dont, they will proceed with our action. Now, nowhere is it written down that this has to be a long, drawnout process to have articles of impeachment at the house floor. You dont have to have depositions or do interviews. Just write a resolution and put it on the floor. They can move fast. If you vote on that, someone has been impeached. Its possible that some republicans might be willing to entertain what the house of representatives passes. Listen. I will definitely consider whatever articles that they might move because as i told you, i believe the president has disregarded his oath of office what he did is wicked. Some democrats believe the president s rhetoric so malignant that they ney need him may want to make him the only chief executive impeached twice. They want the republicans to vote for it or against it. In the 1790s, the house impeached tennessee senator William Blount twice after the second impeachment blount was no longer in office. Still the senate briefly started his trial before putting that aside. So in other words, blount is the only person to be impeached twice. The senate trial begins automatically. You might remember this dispute in late 19 and 2020 after the house representatives impeach President Trump before christmas. Nancy pelosi held the ball. She didnt send the articles of impeachment over to the United States senate right away. Thats why the trial didnt start in january 16. So ostensively if they wanted to move expeditiously, you can send the articles over to the senate and into the highest privilege articles of impeachment, the senate trial kind of starts automatically. Army secretary Ryan Mccarthy says he was not asked for National Guard troops to protect the u. S. Capitol ahead of the mob storming in wednesday. He said we were not precoordinated or asked for support by the Capitol Police. The Capitol Police has the responsibility and jurisdiction. Theyre a separate branch of the government. They have to ask and request for support. We engaged with the Capitol Police last week and into the weekend. They confirmed to us after our request that they were going to come to us with any request for assistance on sunday, 3 january, that they werent doing to have any request for assistance for dod. Im told the mayor was reluctant to have any National Guard in site of the protests during calls that included the pentagon, Justice Department that was in the lead and the Capitol Police. The major agreed to have unarmed National Guard wearing different uniforms on the periphery im told. She was specific about not having military in view of protesters. We agreed with her a Senior Defense official told me. We offered the National Guard to the mayor and Law Enforcement to include the Capitol Police and for a National Guard ready force. They said no thank you. The pentagon began discussions about how to help there were a flurry of calls. The Capitol Hill Police chief called mccarthy under duress, requesting help. Mccarthy said he ran down to chris millers office at 3 04 p. M. Miller mobilized the entire d. C. National guard and ordered them to help retake the capitol. Ultimately it would be the fbi and atf agents that stormed in. The pentagon pushed back on suggestions from Maryland Governor larry hogan that the acting defense secretary slowrolled the authorization. Maryland offered 500 National Guard. They arrived at 6 00 a. M. The next day. The d. C. Authorities had access to 7,000 uniformed officers that were part of the d. C. Police and federal agencies not including National Guard. 7,000 did not happen. Reports of Capitol Police holding the door for some of these people to enter the capitol building. I dont know if you have seen that or not. Have we gotten reaction to that . We have seen videos of it. Its hard to tell because they are short clips. Its part of the investigation. You heard president elect biden said that he wants an investigation. He was quoting Maryland Governor in that press conference. So that investigation is thorough and certainly youll hear from the pentagon in that. Bill thanks, jennifer. Its real its coming next week but its an exercise in frivolity. It cheapens the process, the first one. It was a misguided effort to have a recall vote at Donald Trumps expense. They were hitting Police Officers with lead pipes over the head. 50 to 60 officers got hurt. 15 went to the hospital. One is dead. These are people that were willing to hurt Law Enforcement and try to take down the country. That was their goal. Now, we should have known this. Capitol police should have known that. You have access to all of these Mutual Aid Agreements with all of the different agencies. Fbi, secret service, atf. Go through the alphabet soup of them all, not to mention the National Guard in delaware, pennsylvania, maryland, virginia. All of these surrounding states, which were doing now and will be ready for the inauguration. They told us that the National Guard was ready to support and they botched this big time and im glad the chief of police and sergeant of arms is gone. Bill and youre calling for more heads to roll. Not to excuse the preparation but they have not been doing capitol tours for ten months, i think. Does that help explain the backfooted posture that was assumed wednesday . I dont think so. I think the leadership of the Capitol Police set the rank and file up for failure. 90 of the Capitol Police did a hell of a job. They did their job. But they had no backup. They had no preparation for what was to come because their leadership did not have them ready. This was a team that went on the field and played hard, but their coaches put them in a terrible position to the point where they were getting bumrushed. You watched the videos. These were violent people. They were knocking down doors, pushing themselves through. Found a number of people with guns. Theyre up to a couple hundred arrests at this point with more to come. But these were people that had no concern for law and order, no concern for the bill you are correct that some of them did act that way. Ive seen video, however, congressman today where Capitol Police are holding the door for them and some of these escort them up the stairs. Under the dome. Make sense of that. Its insane. Were going back and reviewing the footage. I want to be very clear, i think the vast majority of the people that voted for donald trump find them appalling. I think the vast majority of people that supported him dont agree with violence, dont agree with what is happening and i think a lot of ways dont agree with what donald trump is doing. Theres this hardcore group that did this and the mistakes like the one you just mentioned. Well be reviewing that footage.
