So our Field Hospital has patients in the icu today as well as in the mens award and the womens ward. We are filling up steadily through the evening last night and all day today, continuing to accept patients into our 68 bed facility. We will continue to accept patients until we are at capacity. Bill shelley, give me a number. Is it a dozen or how many have you taken in the last 24 hours . I think we are at 12 right now. So you have about 56 more to go. Thank you for being here and doing that. How are you keeping safe . We use ppe whether we are in the hot zone or the cold zone and we do a lot of hand washing and stay away from each other. Bill and how about your coworkers, how much concern do you have when treating patients who need your help . I certainly think i have a high level of concern in treating this patients, because it puts us all at risk and then like you said a few minutes ago, we turn around without knowing we are thick and possibly expose our coworkers right here in this Field Hospital. Everyone is extremely vigilant about ppe, hand washing and staying away from each other as much as possible during this time. Bill across the street from you is mount sinai hospital on manhattans upper east side. Its one of the best hospitals in the world and i know through medicine you are well aware of that. Can you give us a sense as to how well they are doing inside the hospital knowing that you have to accept the overflow of cobit 19 patients across the street . Absolutely. I think they are overwhelmed but definitely holding their own at this point. One of their physicians comes over every day and text on us and gives us updates on how shes doing in her icu unit at mount sinai as well as asking how we are doing here at the Field Hospital. So we have a lot of cooperation between mount sinai to make sure these patients get the best quality of care. But i do think they are feeling overwhelmed. Bill im trying to get a sense about how the hospitals are holding up based on the number of patients that the Field Hospital paik stomach takes, and the uss comfort on the hudson river. Is there a correlation that you believe or knowing that they are at max capacity . How will they be able to deal on thursday april 2nd . I think we have come up with some creative ways outside of the box to meet this pandemic had on here in new york and im very impressed with the way people are continuing to get up every morning and go to work, the night shift comes in at night and does the very same thing over and over. Yes, we are tired. Yes, we are giving at 110 every single day and every minute of every day but i think people are believed to have the 68 bed hospital open and have some cushion out mount sinai. And now the assistant secretary of hhs in charge of this testing for the task force. He gave me a big update today about where we are going. First of all he really likes the now test which is a test that can tell you within 513 minutes whether you have cobit 19 or whether you dont. And he told me something i dont think anyone knows, they can use it on the little boxes that are currently testing for influenza. He says influenza is on the big decline right now and of course we all know cobit 19 is on the pickup upsurge and you can use the same equipment and test it differently. Thats why avid is saying they contest 55,000 People Per Day. Of course the admiral says thats not yet enough. We are already testing 100,000 People Per Day or more but we are doing with mobile units and cumbersome equipment, with personal protective equipment that would rather have in hospitals. The admiral says that now with the device we may be able to have patients self administer the test. Bill the avid devices point of care and apparently they are cranking that out several tens of thousands per day. When is that available and when would someone be able to take that test . Thats available right now, but it wont be until next week before its completely in place across the country so that people can get it and maybe even get it to the mobile units which i talk to him about. Because if we use the pointofcare test let me tell you what pointofcare means. It means they have a test, you get the result and you dont have to go to a lab or wait several hours or days. He also talked about pointofcare testing that will be coming in the next few weeks for antibodies but he said they have two uniform that. You cant just be, we keep reading news items, this place has an Antibody Test or that place as an Antibody Test. Thats to test immunity, to see whether youve been exposed to the virus. The admiral said they are looking very, very carefully to making sure the tests that are out there are all accurate. We dont need a situation where someone says you are immune and you are not. Once we know we have a uniform test again, within a week or so we will be able to say you had cobit 19, you are over cobit 19 and you can go back to work. Bill hang onto that time frame. We had such a Strong Economy for such a long time with record low unemployment and rising wages. So it makes it especially jarring and especially difficult. It is a little different than past a bad economic numbers that we sing because its selfimposed. We are doing this to ourselves in a sense for National Health and its meant to be short term. So its different than some bad economic numbers that wed seen in the past but that doesnt minimize the impact its having on millions of americans. Bill no question. Do you think we are already in doubledigit unemployment at the moment . I dont want to speculate where we are. We will put out an economic report tomorrow but that will show just the first part of march so we wont really have a feel for the impact of the stayathome orders. But we were at 3. 5 and we know we are going significantly above that number with the pace that we are seeing now with these new claims being filed. Bill is that number closer to 10 or closer to 20 . Again, i wouldnt want to guess but i would say the moment we are not at 20. But its still very high and the result of necessary measures that we have to take. A couple things i do want to emphasize, one, the Labor Department yesterday issued new rules on unpaid leave for coronavirus, and our hope is to minimize to some extent certain circumstances where people feel they have to go on unemployment. And the president signed last week was 2. 2 trillion package which has extensive relief for people who are unemployed but it also has important incentives for business, especially Small Business to keep people on payroll during this difficult time. The irs will be sending out checks, as you know about 1200 per individual plus an additional 500 for dependent children in the next two or three weeks. The unemployment funds are being made available now to the states but they will then need to distribute that to the people who are filing those claims and that will vary by states. The states around that unemployment program. Then they Small Business loans i mentioned, these are loans that come to a 350 billion program, Small Businesses can get along that will cover utilities, rent and payroll and then that loan is given by the federal government if the Company Keeps its employees.
