But we begin with Congressional Correspondent chad pergram live on capitol hill. Walk us through the next few days of this. Good afternoon bill. Glad to be part of it. We dont really know exactly whats going to happen in the coming days because we still dont have this resolution setting the parameters, and the debate and the trial over the next couple days. Mitch mcconnell the Senate Majority leader has kept that very close to his best and the impeachment managers as they are struggling to try to figure out how the next couple of days will go. Is one of those managers, hakeem jeffries. We dont know what those will be, we simply look forward to being able to review the resolution. The American People deserve a fair trial, the constitution deserves a fair trial. Democrats and those managers have filed whats called today a replication, which is kind of a rebuttal to what the white house filed today. The senate cannot remove him even if the house proves its case, that the chilling assertion. Bill, we will have some long days the next couple of days and tomorrow will be administrative which is where we get that resolution from mcconnell. There will be a vote on that, and then wednesday thursday the house presents its case friday and saturday. The rebuttal from the Trump Defense team, a lot of the sessions will run 12 or 13 hours, until one or 2 00 in the morning. Then next week they might go to the issue of witnesses. Where do we stand on witnesses . It all depends on how this resolution is structured. We think they will get to that about the middle of next week, and as they say here and capitol hill, its about the math. The math right now favors Mitch Mcconnell and he says he has the votes and Chuck Schumer does not. Chad pergram, thank you. They called the case against him a dangerous perversion of the constitution. Kevin corke is live on the north along. Congrats bill and good to be with you. Sources working with the president s legal team have argued for quite some time that the articles of impeachment as they are currently constructed are neither criminal nor impeachable. And we have a chance to take a look at a 110 page summary that spells out the arguments against the house is impeachment. The president s lawyers believe that the articles of impeachment presented by House Democrats are constitutionally deficient on their face, the theorys underpinning that would do lasting damage to the separation of powers under the constitution and to our structure of government. The lawyers here stay the first article if validated would have allowed congress to have secondguessed policy decisions and they argued the second article would have invalidated the president s confidential deliberations which is why they said they blocked testimony and refused to turn over documents to the house. As for the question of witness witnesses, here is federal prosecutor robert brady. It is the president s right to a fair trial, specifically if he thinks that in this part of his defense he needs witnesses. If it is on the other hand a situation in which illfounded, illegitimate, unconstitutional articles of impeachment have been presented then there is no need for witnesses. Robert ray, but democrats insist that more witnesses and evidence are the true standard of fairness and the American People deserve nothing less. We aim to get their truths and make no mistake about it, we will force votes on witnesses and documents and it will be up to four republicans to side with the constitution, to side with our democracy, to side with rule of law. Four, as in the number, needed to tip the president s way. Dana i want to talk about this with a senator who will be in the well all week. Senator, thank you for your time and good afternoon to you. Bill, its great to be with you and congratulations on your new show. Bill thank you. Dont be a stranger around here. Your colleague doug jones set over the weekend he was going to split his vote. He said hes yes on abuse of power and no on obstruction. What are your votes, senator . I believe every senator should wait until all the evidence is in before rendering a final judgment. I do think that a fair trial requires the bringing of all the relevant evidences that are out there, and that means calling fact witnesses and getting relevant documents and getting to the truth before rendering a final decision. Thats why we were so disturbed by senator mcconnells efforts at least initiative, initially to prevent those relevant documents and relevant witnesses. You mentioned witnesses a couple of times. Is that a swap that you would agree to . Look. Everyone has to be considered on their own merits. I wouldnt say at any point in time republicans wanted to call, the democrats put forward for a fact witnesses, chief of staff where all documents show that he was in the middle of this. And he has said that he wants to testify. I would say with respect to hunter biden, as of right now it looks like a total sideshow. He doesnt have information directly relevant to these two articles of impeachment that are before the senate. The abuse of power and obstruction. Would you agree witness for witness and one for one, would you consider that fair . In a trial, the standard is whether or not a witness has factual information that is relevant to the charges in front of them. That is the standard that is implied in the trial. I will say that senator mcconnell keeps talking about the clinton model. And every impeachment trial has had witnesses who testified under oath. So if we are going to abide by the clinton model we certainly should have witnesses to help us get to the truth. Bill likely tomorrow we will get an idea about the senate rules and how Mitch Mcconnell wants to run this. 12 hour days, how does that sit with you . Look. We have an obligation to hear the case and try the case and try it fairly. In the clinton proceedings as you probably know, i think they divided up into six hour days so obviously, mcconnell is trying to rush this through including in the middle of the night. I find that worrisome, but we will all do our duty under the constitution to hear this. Bill i dont mean to interrupt your answer there but if you are Amy Klobuchar and you want to get back to iowa, maybe its a good thing the process goes quickly. Could you see or understand the perspective . With respect, i dont think thats Mitch Mcconnells motivation right now. But i think again, the important thing is that we get all the relevant witnesses and documents and testimony, and whatever the timeline is, we have to do our job. It should be a fair trial and fair trials, i think every american recognizes that requires getting to the truth and you can have a fair trial without witnesses. Bill what is your sense about how badly this could hurt some of the chances for those who are trying to capture the nomination . Places like iowa and New Hampshire and things like that . I dont think this has any material impact. These are senators who are able to communicate with people via all sorts of, facebook live. Theyve got their teams on the ground and the voters in those states are interested in whats happening in the impeachment trial, along with all of the other big issues they are faci facing. That could very well be but in the tight caucus, the difference could be between first, second or third place. As you know, the most important thing for those caucuses is the organization and the team on the ground. Those organizations have already been built over a period of time, and so that will be the most important factor as we go into the final days. Ive talked to the senators and i know that their first obligation is to do their job under the constitution. Bill senator, thank you for your time. Sven holland, thank you for coming on today. Raising more money, the numbers are up, and every standard we have going on with the president. 2016 suburban voters on the screen, here you go. President trump led Hillary Clinton by four points. Amid suburban women he trailed her by only seven. We did a poll here at fox about a month and a half ago and easement numbers are very different. In december of this year amongst suburban voters he now trails by 11. Amongst suburban women hes down by a whopping 24 points. How come. Those are different measurements also. One is measured on a ballot and one on approval and those are different things. The president has actually never done better. We still have a candidate to run against. And thats how you asked those questions also. Hes actually doing better, in our numbers internally, its never been higher. I think with women as they start to see, the lowest unemployment 3. 2 for women in 50 years, i think youve seen ten years now since women were actually more employed in th workforce. And if thats the case, why are numbers not different . I just dont think those numbers are right. You cant just go and ask the question. They could ask for approval in different ways. You actually say, do you want President Trump or do you want the president from the left side . The president does significantly better. He is so far ahead of where he was in 2016 against clinton, so far ahead of these other candidates in fundraising and numbers, and their policies are so far left, the American People are not going to want them. The American People are tuned out because what happened with impeachment and everything else, they are shut down. They are watching Football Games and enjoying the countrys great economy, they are not sitting around watching the stuff. Bill i will give you an example come into thousand 18 it was a very good year for the democrats. This isnt Newt Gingrichs seat just 20 years ago. It flipped from republican to democrat. Are those districts gone for good . Noel. Look, the president isnt on the ballot there. We are talking about states, michigan, minnesota. States that we are talking about having to go defend. If i had been talking to you and you said those were the states, they are not talking about ohio and florida anymore. The president on the ballot changes things. You had millions of voters and those millions will show up again and more millions will show up even more because the president has policies that he can run on. So you think georgia six is a one off . Special elections are speci special. Either way, congressional who runs a congressional race matters. Thats not President Trump on the ballot, and its different. So the president is going to win georgia, its not even close. How badly does this impeachment trial harm the campaign . Im sure the president needs to speak for himself on this but from the campaign side our numbers have gone up. And you are the one that will become victorious out of this. Its going to create lots of fundraising, weve already got 200 million in the bank and our numbers have gone up. Independent see this farce and this hoax. They dont like to be bamboozled and they dont like the stuff. Michael bloomberg said this in the last few days, one of the reasons, i would be acceptable to the moderate republicans that you have to have in order to win elections. I will start when worrying about bloomberg when he can beat mayor pete. He suggested he would spend 2 billion. If he does, can you match that . He will be heating up throwing that money in the furnace. Soft dollars and what he chooses to do im not worried about. The president s message resonates with the American People. We will be ready. We have been spending year is now getting our voters ready to turn out. We have tens of millions of them ready to show up and as far as i see from that side, they are not ready to turn those out. Canvassed the whole democratic field at the moment . Who concerns you . I dont look at any one candidate. Regardless of who shows up on the other side, we will have a campaign this time thats ready, and every single aspect to take on whatever fight we need to. We will have hundreds times more volunteers. Bill when i was reading the piece its that bloomberg was not willing to sit down and talk about the ideas. We got into the process late and we are sort of up to speed to run through. Bill mr. Bloomberg has spent at least 215 million excuse me, 217 million today to circumvent the hard uncomfortable work of actual campaigning. Just respond to the heart of come uncomfortable work. Mike gave one of the most uncomfortable speeches addressing the issue of empowerment and financial situation of africanamericans around this country. Mike is in little rock today and mike has traveled two more states over more days over the course of this campaign and rolled out more issues than any other Candidates Campaign over the last month. Bill fox business headline, 2 billion reasons bloomberg could unseat trump. Is he willing to go deep into a billion or is that just a headline . I think in every campaign ive been able to participate and mikes view is i want to spend whatever it takes to put myself in a position to make a difference. He was able to make an enormous difference and there is no one that doesnt say that he didnt bring the city back from 9 11 and that he didnt improve education or make the streets safer, he didnt rebuild the economy of new york after the worst tragedy to ever occur on american soil. When i look at whats happening in the country today i will spend whatever it takes to improve the country and move it in the direction it needs to be moved. Bill does not include 2 billion of the his own money . I dont think mike has had 1 million or 2 billion, but the truth is he has said i want to run a campaign to make a difference in this country and i will spend whatever it takes. Bill im sure you were watching a moment ago when Brad Parscale said he sent worried about Michael Bloomberg. What you should ask him, brad is not running a National Campaign, hes running a campaign in six states and hes doing that exceptionally well. If the election was held i think President Trump would be reelected. Their only states that really matter are wisconsin, michigan, pennsylvania, North Carolina and arizona in a general election. We as democrats have made a terrible mistake in focusing two years in the state of iowa but every republican poster agrees donald trump has gone bill no one has been successful at doing that yet. Why do you think that could work . Not since 1960. Weve allowed two states, iowa and New Hampshire, to the exclusion of people around the country. So Michael Bloomberg says, what if we got everyone involved . What if we started running in North Carolina, michigan, wisconsin, florida, texas and oklahoma, what if we empower people to play a role in this campaign . And thats what we are doing. No one since 1966 has succeeded in doing that round. Bill i know you are good at math but 1960 was 60 years ago. The last one to promise to do this was Rudy Giuliani and then skipped iowa and showed up in New Hampshire, reporters were not asking him what his campaign was about a month they were asking him, where have you been . To compare what they are doing during this campaign is absurd. Today we had 80 people on the ground, and 16 officers across the state. Michael bloomberg has over a thousand people across the country in 36 states around the nation campaigning today. That is a very different thing. Bill last point. He will not disclose his Financial Report until at least march 20th. Why not . Hes filling out the paperwork now and he will certainly disclose, but its really not hard to figure out what Mike Bloomberg is asset is. Its well after super tuesday, as after ohio, after 50 of the delegates could be decided. Then people can take a look at that and decide if its something that a candidate should own. Mike said if he was elected he would take that company and all his assets. Bill so if hes the nominee, its billionaire versus billionaire. Jerry woodberry is awaiting a hearing for one of those robberies. Earlier this month he got up jail for a new law that requires people accused of nonviolent crimes to be released without bail. Woodberry is behind bars this afternoon because the feds who are not bound by the law restricting bail took action and charge them a federal court with bank robbery. In four instances he handed a bank on armed handed a teller a note demanding money before being arrested. But, authorities had no choice but to release woodberry as he awaited trial. According to one officer he even blurted out i cant believe they let me out. Later that same day, he allegedly robbed another bank and two days later tried again. A federal warrant arrest warrant was issued and then he turned himself into authorities. The prosecutor on the case issued a statement saying no sound rational and criminal Justice System requires a pretrial release of criminal defendants who demonstrate the attempt to continue to commit crimes. His hearing is scheduled for next friday before a federal judge of it at that time the attorney could ask for bail to be set. Until then he will remain behind bars. Bill is a whats the reasoning behind doing away with bail . The opponents of these bail reforms argue its very difficult for the four under the old system. They also say that defendants who are locked up risk losing jobs and they have endured a number of other hardships. They also add that people of color have bail set up much higher amounts than other defendants. Another argument is that defendants are incarcerated before the trial have are more likely to plead guilty then take their case to court. Andrew cuomo who signed the bill into law is having some second thoughts. Hes recently called the bail reform a work in progress adding that there were consequences that we have to adjust for. He allegedly originally called for the bill but he did not include that in the legislation. Its a case, he put the spotlight on it, right . Just last week the european parties to this deal announced they would trigger what is called the dispute mechanism within this larger plan. This is ultimately going to trigger a 60 day negotiation.
