S. Tonight. Unfortunately in order to build false leverage that admitted to an attack in kabul that killed one of our great soldiers and 11 other people. I immediately canceled the meeting, called off peace negotiations. What kind of people would kill so many in order to seemingly strengthen their bargaining position . The peace deal with the taliban which would have seen an immediate draw dawn of 5,000 u. S. Troops and nine rounds of talks, a facetoface meeting at camp david would have been an extraordinary diplomatic move coming days ahead of the 18th anniversary of 9 11. Taliban kept up their attacks during the negotiations leaving 16 u. S. Troops dead this year and now said americans will lose the most by canceling the talks and they have vowed to continued their attacks saying they would fight for 100 years if they must. Secretary pompeo was asked about the talks at camp david and President Trump wanted to look directly into the eyes of the taliban leaders before signing off on anything. Four people still missing after a cargo ship overturned and caught fire sunday morning. The coast guard rescuing 20 people before determining that it was too risky to rescue the rest and temporarily calling off that search. Fire observed this morning was coming off the star board side. It looked to be the area of the cargo and black smoke. Since then the flames have gone out and the black smoke has ceased. Heather David Lee Miller is live with more on this. David. Were getting new information. The coast guard saying that they are hearing what they describe as noises coming from within that ship. Not clear if this is an indication they say of signs of life but the coast guard says that they are tapping back to let anyone inside know that they are not forgotten. Meanwhile that vessel that overturned and caught fire near the port of brunswick in georgia just north of jacksonville, florida, Authorities Say the four crew members are all from south korea in addition to one american, six south koreas and filipinos. 4,000 cars bound for the middle east. The ship, which has rolled on its side can be seen from shore. Dramatic pictures. Rescue teams were trying to stabilize the 656 long ship to search for the missing crew believed to be trapped inside the engine room. The problems began early sunday morning when the coast guard says it received an emergency call of a capsized ship. The vessel was reported to be listing heavy to star board. The command center received a report that the vessel on its departure had rolled to star board leaning on its port side as it departed the harbor. Its not clear what caused the mishap. One possibility is bad weather. Hurricane dorian passed through the region last week. So far this ship which has overturned has not released any pollutants. Crews are ready if that situation should change. As the rescue operation continues no ships are permitted within a half a mile of the golden ray. I think were doing better than anyone going around the globe right now and i think well continue to chug along. I would not call it a vibrant economy. The average of the top three democrats now versus may. You can see biden down 2. 1, warren up 9. 6 and sanders down 9 1. 9. It feels like there are three lanes. I hate saying this as a democrat. You have the populist left, bernie and warren, you have i would say the moderate lane where joe biden really seems to be winning right now the third. And then you have all others around a third. It is clear to what you were referencing that Elizabeth Warren has momentum. It feels she is surpassing bernie. In the populist lane. You have bernie and warren on each side. Eventually they will have to go after each other a bit. Right now my guess is theyll be a lot of people going after joe biden still and i think joe biden will have a strong debate. I think that people like joe and i think they feel he is most electable today. Heather there are some reports that Hillary Clinton behind the scenes is helping Elizabeth Warren. What do you make of that . It would not be surprising to me that many of the candidates are reaching out to secretary clinton. She was the last she has relationships. Im not sure if she is necessarily helping Elizabeth Warren but it wouldnt surprise me that the last democratic candidate is being used to get a view of what does it take for iowa and what does it take for New Hampshire and what are some of the things you did well and did not do well . The taliban was continuing to work by terrorizing during the talks. Thats not a way to get a peace agreement. Do we need to keep troops there . Absolutely. We still have troops on the ground in europe in korea 75 years later. The president was right to cancel any sort of agreement and talks at this point. He is a president of action. Were also at a time of significant polarization and conflict and really outrage that you hear. So i came home from being in wyoming, the whole month talking to people all around the state. They are happy with where things are moving with jobs, with the economy, with National Security, with the things that the president is doing. With judges, with regulation. Two, its time for the taliban to look at what life is going to be like when america leaves. No american aid or assistance and they can go ahead and kill each other until the end of time. And then i think number three, the fact that it wasnt a deal. It would have been such a travesty to have had it at camp david on the anniversary of september 11. Very sad news for the family of that missing mother of three as no doubt her loved ones had been holding out hope that somehow heather would be found alive and come home. But over the weekend authorities in Northern California announced they believe they found her remains. And have charged her husband, anthony, with first degree murder. Police say they served him with an outstanding no bail warrant for Domestic Violence on friday and then at the same time officers were conducting a search of the Pleasant Valley area near where they lived 50 miles east of sacramento and they discovered the remains. Heather was reported missing july 19th with no clues until her car was found in Eldorado County not far away on august 9th. She is the mother of three children, the youngest just 4 years old. Her mother says she and her grandkids are heartbroken. It was one of the most giving, loyal people ive ever known. Im going to grieve for a very long time. That four of the missing crewmen have been found alive and extraction is planned. Earlier the coast guard had reported there were noises coming from inside the overturned ship that is in georgias st. Simon sound. Rescue crews began tapping back on the hull of the golden ray to let those inside that theyve not been forgotten. Moments ago repeating this again, the coast guard saying all four of the missing crewmen inside that ship have been found alive. The latest pictures show a coast guard helicopter that is on the scene. Were told that all four of the missing crewmen are believed to be south korea nationals. You might recall so far one american, six south koreas and 13 filipinos have been rescued. The ship that rolled on its port side remained stuck in a shipping channel and can be seen by shore. In addition to a fire unstable cargo on board hampered search efforts. The ship was transporting some 4,000 cars bound for the middle east. Problems began early sunday morning when the coast guard said it received and emergency call of a capsized clear. Not clear what caused the mishap. One possibility is bad weather. Hurricane dorian passed through the region last week. Authorities are concerned not only about saving lives but the environment as well. In addition to the ongoing search and rescue operations, we are pollution mitigation efforts in the works. Currently there is no active release of pollution. As the rescue operation continues at this moment, no ships are permitted within a half mile of the golden ray. The nearby port of brunswick in georgia, one of the countrys busiest ports is closed. They not only want to rescue those that have been missing but they needed to provide safety for their own crew as well. The same weekend we had the shooting in el paso, texas, 25 past. Here we go, fox news alert. 45 confirmed dead in the bahamas after Hurricane Dorian. For the people out in dayton that night, these officers were the thin blue line between life and death. The actions of these six officers show that while that line may be thin, it is very strong. Established in 2001, the medal of valor is our nations highest Public Safety award. Officers across the nation are nominated by their peers but only a handful are selected to receive this honor. Traditionally this process occurs only once a year. However, the law permits the attorney general to expand the total number of recipients when exceptional instances of bravery arise. And so thats what we did this year. In my eyes and in the eyes of our nation, this special recognition is warranted. Valor is a word we dont commonly hear. People can show courage and bravery confronting many different challenges in life. But valor is a willing putting oneself in mortal danger to protect others. We humans have a powerful instinct to flee from peril. It takes a special kind of courage, deep sense of duty and extraordinary character to overcome these impulses and for the sake of others to run toward the danger and we thank god that on that horrible night in dayton, we had men of these qualities. As we honor the valor of these men we must recognize that we cannot take them and their brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement for granted. Serving as a Police Officer is the toughest job in our country and as they put themselves on the line to keep us safe, they deserve our gratitude and support. We are grateful not just for the courage of these officers but also of their families. And we salute those families here today. You encounter long days and restless nights, still you endure them for all of us. Our nation is shocked and enraged by these inhuman and sadistic acts of bloodshed. We fail to comprehend how any person could be so warped by malice and contempt. Every heart breaks for the families who lost precious loved ones and every american grieves for those who were so cruelly taken from us. In the midst of such profound anguish one memory fills us with hope. When evil showed its hideous face, americans of all walks of life rose up and defied fear, they stared down death to protect the innocent, and stand tall they did just for righteous and for good. Several days after the shootings, the first lady and i visited both cities. We met with First Responders, hospital staff, survivors and families. We will never forget the unity and love we saw in those communities and at those hospitals. It was incredible. In ohio, i had the privilege of meeting the six dayton pom is officers who without a moments hesitation immediately and courageously engaged the gunman en x his attack and rescuing countless lives. Who knew and who can even understand how many lives would have been taken if they didnt act so quickly. Just after 1 00 a. M. On august 4th, these officers were patrolling the streets of downtown dayton when the killer opened fire into an innocent crowd. The shooter continued firing as he ran down a sidewalk packed with people. Sergeant William Knight was stationed in his cruiser about 150 feet away. He heard the gunfire, jumped out of his car, and quickly returned fire. Meanwhile, officer brian ralfus ran directly towards the shooter and into the onslaught of incoming bullets. Then officers jeremy campbell, vincent carter, ryan nabel and David Denlinger moved in engaging the shooter at close range calling upon years of training in the span of an instant. Millions of americans saw the video footage of these officers calmly charging forward in the midst of chaos and constant fire. Without a thought for their own safety they stood square to the target executed their mission, and brought down the murderer with precision gunfire. It was just before that maniac was ready to enter a very crowded restaurant and bar. Within 32 seconds of the start of the attack, these six officers ended the violent rampage and saved countless lives. Today it is my immense honor to award the medal of valor to those Law Enforcement heroes. Sergeant William Knight, officers brian ralfus, jeremy campbell. Vincent carter, ryan nabel and David Denlinger. We are in awe of your professionalism and rock solid nerves of steel. On behalf of our entire nation, we thank you for your remarkable and heroic actions in the line of duty. And we just want to thank you so much. What a great job youve done. Thank you very much. [applause] President Trump today were also honoring five americans who risked their lives to save others at the walmart in el paso, texas. Walmart store manager robert eveance was outside the store entrance when he heard the gunman fire his first shot. I instantly alerted employees of the active shooter and saw the killer heading towards the store so erased inside and directed customers toward the nearest emergency exits helping hundreds escape to safety. Incredible. Robert, you exemplify noble leadership and selfless service. Thank you very much, robert. Great. [applause] walmart employee gilbert sirna heard roberts alert over the radio and immediately without hesitation guided dozens of shoppers to refuge through a rear exit. Boosting some people over a 12foot wall and hiding others in shipping containers. So smart to think of that. Who would think of that under these circumstances . A lot of people would just run for their lives. He cleared out the back area of the store a minute before the shooter got there. Gilbert, your unwavering resolve en spires us inspires us all. Great job, gilbert. Thank you. [applause] Marcella Luna was managing the mcdonalds inside the walmart from the murderer burst into the entrance. They gathered customers from the lobby and led them to refrigerators and other hiding places shielding them from the shooter as line of sight. Thank you, marcella, for racing to rescue others from grave danger. Thank you very much. [applause] mcdonalds supervisor angelle yeah silver was working in another location when she got word of the active shooting. She drove straight to the scene to check on her employees. Upon arriving angelica saw two people in the parking lot who were very, very badly wounded. She alerted First Responders and helped save the life of one of those severely injured victims. We thank god you were there, angelica. Thank you very much. [applause] chris grant was picking out snacks for his kids when he suddenly saw the murderer firing at innocent shoppers a few aisles away from him. Chris grabbed listen to this soda bottles and anything else in front of him and began hurling them at the gunman, distracting him from the other shoppers and causing the shooter to turn toward chris and fire at chris. Chris suffered two very serious gunshot wounds but he is recovering well and we wish him the best. His family is here. So please thank chris for us. [applause] think of that. In the darkest moments of danger and despair, god calls the bravest to action. These 11 individuals answered the call. They stared down evil, they put love of neighbor above life itself, and we are blessed by their courage. We are honored by their presence. We are overwhelmed by their example and we are forever inspired by the goodness of their hearts, the grace of their souls, and the enduring greatness of their deeds. Based on intelligence, if we heard that something may be going on in the place, we wanted to be able to go out and inspect that. Had the iaea, the u. N. Inspection monitoring body do that. The only thing we had access to were the known sites. Then they would not let us have access to some of the secret military sites. That is why this deal was flawed because we have to do with Ronald Reagan said trust by verify. We didnt have the verification. Now we have the israelis telling us that something is happening in terms of Nuclear Weapons development despite the deal. We should not be surprised.
