Good morning, everybody. Im bill hemmer live on thursday morning. Sandra we have a packed show. Im Julie Banderas in for sandra smith. Pompeo met with saudi and turkey leaders to find answers about khashoggis disappearance and presumed death. President trump is waiting to hear all the facts before making decisions. President trump theyre an important ally. I want to find out what happened, where is the fault. Well probably know that by the end of the week. Mike pompeo is coming back and well have a long talk. Have you asked for the audio video. President trump weve asked for it if it exists. Im not sure it exists. It possibly does. Ill have a full report from that on mike when he comes back. That will be the first question i asked. Bill rich, what do you expect from the briefing today, pompeo and the president . This will be a full accounting of meetings the secretary had in saudi arabia and then in turkey. The president has already been dialed into a number of conversations, certainly the president spook with Mohammed Bin Salman while meeting with secretary of state mike pompeo. It will be a full readout on the conversations. The turkish government claims their investigation indicates saudi responsibility and connections to the crown prince. The Associated Press citing turkish media and surveillance reporters says a man who traveled with the crown prince sfwerd the consulate by khashoggi arrived and he later checked out of a Turkish Hotel with a large suitcase the day khashoggi disappeared. The secretary has said the u. S. Is giving saudi arabia and turkey space to conduct their investigations though there is a growing pressure on the saudi crown prince. After the investigation the secretary says the u. S. Will decide its response. The secretary has also stressed the administration continues the strong business and government ties between the two countries. Democrats and republicans in congress are pushing for a stronger response and come are calling to end sanctions and the end of arm sales. The secretary will meet with the president and then a trip to mexico. Bill the Washington Post published what appears to be khashoggis final column. It is lamenting the lack of press freedom in the arab world. The editors say they received this column from khashoggis assistants and translator just after he disappeared in istanbul on october 2. In this column he writes, quote, arab governments have been given free rein to continue silencing the media at an increasing rate and he continues the arab world is facing its own version of an iron curtain imposed not by external actors but through domestic forces vying for power. The editor said they were holding off on publishing this because they thought khashoggi would return and work on this. Now says they now accept that is not going to happen. Khashoggis family is calling for an independent investigation from an International Body to try to figure this out. Back to you. Bill more to come from the state department. Good to see you there. Julie. Meanwhile former f. B. I. Attorney james baker set to testify again before the House Judiciary Committee this morning for the second time in two weeks. House republicans want more information about claims that Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein pushed a plan to secretly record the president. Mike emanuel is live outside the hearing room now with more. This is going to be an indoor shall closed door meeting again. Why is todays session so important . Good morning to you. Sources familiar say this former f. B. I. Counsel has been the most informative interview theyve had in terms of looking into the f. B. I. s investigation of the Trump Campaign. His name is james baker, the former f. B. I. Counsel who appeared before house lawmakers two weeks ago but had to leave after a few hours. Lawmakers want to speak to him about the report Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein was willing to wear a wire and talked about using the 25th amendment to remove the president from office. If james baker took rosenstein seriously they want to know what he did about it. That story came through Andrew Mccabe. Who was in subsequent meetings and what actions were taken . Big picture President Trump was asked about the Robert Mueller russia probe on 60 minutes. President trump i dont pledge anything but i have no intention of doing that. I think its a very unfair investigation because there was no collusion of any kind. You wont pledge . President trump why should i pledge to you . If i pledge ill pledge, dont have to pledge to you. No intention of shutting down the russia probe. What are the next steps . Critical hearing today with james baker but after this they want to speak with nelly ohr. She worked for fusion gps, the firm behind the controversial dossier. She is also married to bruce ohr, specialist who met with christopher steele. Lawmakers are expected to hear from George Papadopoulos in are a closed door deposition as soon as next week. Rod rosenstein spoke to the wall street journal said people are entitled to be frustrated but at the end of the day the public will have confidence the cases we brought were warranted by the evidence and it was an appropriate use of resources. They want to get rosenstein up to capitol hill to ask him questions about all these matters. Thank you very much. Weve got much more on this story straight ahead. Congressman jim jordan who sits on the House Judiciary Committee joins us at the bottom of the hour to tell us what he wants to hear from baker. Im speak with him and also our headliner today john pistol, former Deputy Director of the f. B. I. Will weigh in. Thats coming up at 10 00. President trump asked the question in 2016 what do you have to lose . Most people said not much. They saw no hope with Hillary Clinton. Let me tell you, in 2018 if the democrats take over you have a lot to lose. Bill Lindsey Graham with a warning for republicans. The president will hit the road again. Three states where the races are too close to call. I hope theyre still close to call. We have 2 1 2 weeks before the election. Not too much pressure on the decision desk. Bill lets start in montana. The last poll was a month ago. Matt rosendale against jon tester the democrat running for reelection. I dont know where this state is today. Montana is, as always, independent. It is hard to put montana in a political box. It is definitely a red state but a state barack obama very nearly carried in 2008. It wont be put in a political box. Jon tester is a tough out, he and joe manchin are in the same category. The kind of democrats who represents red states but connect with their voters on a different level in a different way. Bill montana is one of the states republicans think they can flip. Then its off to arizona for the president and nevada by the end of the week. By the way, joe biden is in nevada next week, so is barack obama. You see what the stakes are. This is what our fox polling found last night. Vote for congress in your district . A seven point gap between democrats and republicans in favor of democrats, which is the same seven point gap from a month ago. You rarely see this, dont you . We have seen a remarkable constancy this year going back to the winter really after the weird effect of the tax cut went through, first negative and then positive for republicans. Weve been at about seven points for most of the year. Thats about where the average of the democratic advantage in the generic ballot is. There is a red wall. Democrats need to do better than even to gain seats. They have to do three or four points better to gain seats. They can win the house with this number, probably not the senate. But it is shaping up to be the race weve seen for a long time. Bill you crunch numbers every day with our team here. On the house side you are trying to figure out which races are legitimate tossups. Last count it was 31 races in the house. Correct. Bill are those mostly in republicanheld districts or democrat. Mostly in republicanheld districts. All but two are republican seats and thats the challenge for republicans. They have to limit democratic gains to 23. There is a bunch of seats that republicans know are gone. There are a bunch of seats they arent even contesting. That means that democrats out of these tossups only need a dozen or maybe 13 seats out of these tossups in order to win. And thats the reality that republicans have been dealing with for a long time. In the same way the senate map is very good for republicans this cycle just because of where the races are, the reality for republicans this time on the house is theyve been toting water uphill from the beginning. Bill there will be drama. Yeah. Bill kavanaugh was a surprise. We could get another surprise in 19 days. Anything can happen there. Final word. In 19 days anything that happen in 2018. Well be here. Bill see you soon in new york. Talk to you soon. Breaking news as we await a big meeting between President Trump and secretary pompeo. If unable to do so i will call up the u. S. Military and close our southern border. Secretary of state mike pompeo, of course, expected to visit Central America to talk with leaders about the issue. Bill he is going everywhere. Check it out. President trump saudi arabia has been a very important ally of ours in the middle east. We are stopping iran. Were stopping iran. We went a big step when we took away the ridiculous deal made by the previous administration, the iran deal, 150 million and 1. 8 billion in cash. What was all that about . They are an ally. We have other good allies in the middle east. Bill the president on the importance of saudi arabia, the relationship between our two countries, iran, terrorism, gas prices, human rights is all part of this equation. Daniel hoffman former c. I. A. Chief of station. Good morning to you. You make a point well when you because they do not age well with time. Is that right . It is. Early in my career at c. I. A. A senior u. S. Government official told me that diplomatic incidents, flaps, they arent like fine wine that get better with age. Its best to collect the facts with accuracy, get out front and make policy quickly so that you own the dialogue and then avoid collateral damage. Bill so pompeo meets with the president in about an hour. How do you gauge how judicious they have been during this process . I think the first thing, secretary pompeo will sit with the president and review what we know and answer the key questions. We know a lot. 15 saudis entered the consulate shortly after khashoggi. We dont know what exactly were the orders given to these 15 saudis . We dont know who gave the orders. We dont know if anyone if they carried out the orders as intended, and we dont know about postmortem who reported to whom based on what happened inside that consulate . Secretary pompeo would take all the intelligence collection. His interaction officially with saudi and turkish officials and deliver that to the president so the president can make effective policy. Bill what pompeo talked about was facts. They are not all public yet. But all the facts so far have come from turkey and then we have this from the Washington Post. Khashoggi apparently penned an oped in the final days. He said this, arab governments have been given free rein to continue silencing the media at an increasing rate. These governments whose very distance we lies on the role of information have blocked the internet, arrested local reporters and pressured avenue to harm the revenue of specific publications. The arab world is facing its own version of an iron curtain forced through domestic forces vying for power. That could be a shot at the royal family and current leadership in saudi arabia i guess. It is. He is trying to paint a picture there with that soviet reference that im not sure applies very well to an idea of a clash of civilization. Freedom of the press in the west that doesnt exist much in the middle east. What canadian officials criticized the saudis and called on the release of jailed human rights activists that bin salman expelled the canadian ambassador. There is sensitivity in the kingdom for sure longstanding sensitivity to those who dissent from the official view. I think this is bill this administration has so much on the line here. Theyve built their middle east relationship to include significantly saudi arabia whether its ties with iran or gas prices or the war on terror. All that right now, all that strategy is wrapped up in this. Right. One of the things thats important is to keep some of our relationship immune to the having a reese of our bilateral relationship. You want to keep the intelligence collaboration thats vital to our interests and protecting our citizens and homeland. We want to keep that immune from these issues but youre right. Its hard to thread the needle. Sanction the country or freeze military sales and rely on them as a partner in the middle east and primary ally against iran. Thats what secretary pompeo and the president will be discussing today. Bill excellent guest. How do you see this unwinding itself . I think well see the congress expressing if you are looking for bipartisan collaboration in the congress, were seeing it here. You have democrats and republicans out front on this issue. I wouldnt be surprised if we see open testimony and see the house and Senate Intelligence committees with closed testimony of our intelligence Senior Intelligence official to get to the bottom of what happened. What i hope is we dont rush to policy measures. We want to be very measured and make sure theyre appropriate based on the facts at hand. We do need to move quickly. Bill we should know a bit more in about an hours time. Thank you for your insight today. Julie with the midterms weeks away malicious actors on social media may compromise the integrity of our elections. Julie a Treasury Department employee has been arrested and charged with leaking financial documents of Paul Manafort as well as other key figures in the Mueller Probe. This suspect called hers a whistleblower. She was caught with a flash drive in her hand. Griff jenkins is live in washington who is this woman . Her name is natalie edwards, a top treasury official working in the departments National Crimes Enforcement Network charged with leaking confidential financial document of former Trump Officials to a journalist. She was arrested late tuesday with a flash drive in hand that contained hundreds of documents, several suspicious activity reports to an unnamed News Organization. These reports dated from october 2017 to present and included the Financial Transactions of Trump Campaign chairman Paul Manafort, Campaign Official rick gates and accused russian agent. Court documents show the unlawful disclosure to the reporter was the substance of approximately 12 news articles published by the News Organization that wasnt named. Edwards was also in a position of a cell phone where she transmitted the information to the reporter. As you mentioned edwards calls herself a whistleblower. Officials are saying that she is charged with one count of unauthorized disclosure of suspicious activity and one count of conspiracy to make them that carries a sentence of five years in prison for each. The attorney in charge said she betrayed her position of trust was disclosing Sensitive Information and added we hope todays charges remind those in positions of trust within Government Agencies that the unlawful sharing of sensitive documents will not be tolerated and will be met with swift justice by this office and julie, its interesting the note this is the first criminal prosecution regarding about leaks of individuals targeted by muellers probe. Bill nancy pelosi is being used as a powerful Campaign Tool not for democrats. Republicans, how theyre trying to cooperate her and her message. Were off about 100 points in the open. A lot of this coming from the drag on equities and the stock market after the fed yesterday said it is keeping a close eye on Interest Rates right now. It likes the movement of the economy and with that the fed likes to make moves sometimes suggesting next year it will continue to look at more Interest Rate rises, maybe a quarter point here, maybe a quarter point there. The president doesnt like it. He made that pretty clear this past week. The fed will do what the fed does. Well see the result of that. Gdp is coming out in 10 days time. Larry kudlow is insistent well see 4 growth again. It will hit two weeks prior to the election. Julie that will be interesting to see how it plays out politically. Bill the economy is cooking. Julie back to one of our top stories, former f. B. I. Attorney james baker soon to reappear before the House Judiciary Committee for another high stakes hearing. He will face tough questions about Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein and the wiretap claims. Lets bring in congressman jim jordan who will be in that room asking questions today. Congressman always great to see you and good morning to you. I should note that its interesting to make note that baker had a close working relationship to james comey before he left the bureau. Youll be in todays closed door meetings. What questions do you have for james baker . Where we start is Andrew Mccabe, lisa page met with Rod Rosenstein where mr. Rosenstein said he was thinking about actually recording the commanderinchief in the oval office, recording the president of the United States. Right after that meeting mr. Mccabe and miz page talk to jim baker and he took it seriously. Was there a legal analysis looking to record the president of the United States. What subsequent meetings took place . Those are the first series of questions well ask mr. Baker. Then a host of other things we have to get to as well. Julie right. So in just about 30 minutes from now youll have a chance to ask those questions. He will be testifying after some explosive testimony yesterday where he basically called the russia probe being handled in an abnormal fashion and also mentioned that it reflected political bias. Thats a quote. This is no surprise. Im not sure if democrats seem surprised by this given the peter strzok and lisa page texts. Is political bias enough to derail the Mueller Probe . I think it was interesting that yesterday Rod Rosenstein has time to sit down with the wall street journal and do an interview where he says the Mueller Investigation appropriate and moving in the right direction. And yet i cant come talk to congress about the idea that he made a statement about recording the president of the United States . Rosenstein is the guy who picked mueller in the first place. That is the most frustrating part. You have time for an interview where you say the Mueller Investigation is appropriate and independent but you cant answer congress about what you said in a meeting at the head of the deputy f. B. I. When he was acting head of the f. B. I. Because mr. Comey was fired by the memo you wrote. The fact that he was a no show last week is not right. He is obligated when the chairman of the committee that has jurisdiction over your agency asks you to come to congress and testify you are supposed to do it under oath and he was a no show but has time to talk to the press about the Mueller Investigation. Give me a break. Julie his interview with the wall street journal defends the Mueller Probe calls it appropriate and independent people are entitled to be frustrated. I can accept that. At the end of the day the public will have confidence the cases we brought were warranted by the evidence and it was an appropriate use of resources. I have a solemn responsibility to make sure cases are pursued and prosecuted and pleased the president has been supportive of that. If you got a chance to interview rosenstein what would you ask him . Talk about frustrating. Why hasnt he given us the mccabe memos we sub aoen add and the 302 from bruce ohr and open the fisa application that chairman nunes talked about and an update from the u. S. Attorney looking into things that went on in the f. B. I. We dont get all that information that were entitled to get as a separate and equal branch of government and he is a no show and Glenn Simpson takes the fifth. Were frustrated. I want him to come in to answer lots of questions like about the documents and requests we have outstanding but most importantly about this conversation he had with andy mccabe where he said he was thinking of recording the president. Julie good luck this morning. Youve got a big day ahead of you. Thank you very much, congressman jordan. Bill more on the story shortly. Our headliner is john pistole. He worked with bob mueller for years and join us live top of the next hour here on americas newsroom. Now we move to House Minority leader nancy pelosi trying to be the speaker. She is being used as an asset in the campaign trail but by republicans. Republican consultants saying the mere mention of her name sparks the kind of response that could get voters to the polls in 19 days. Leland vittert is tracking down that story live in d. C. Good morning. Good morning. Theyre putting a lot of money behind that thought, despite not serving in or running for the United States Senate Nancy Pelosi is the favorite foil in Republican Senate races. Look at the ads on the air now in West Virginia, missouri, nevada and north dakota. Democrat leader nancy pelosi elected jackie rosin. Claire mccaskill has joined washington supporting a National Energy tax. Votes against West Virginia in washington, manchin sided with barack obama and nancy pelosi voting to give amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. The ads are paid for by american crossroads cofounded by karl rove who told me pelosi is the best foil they could possibly ask for. Not well liked. There is a huge vitriol reaction to her. A higher profile as Chuck Schumer and more in the center of things like somebody like joe biden and she certainly far less popular than somebody like barack obama or michelle obama. This isnt the first time its been done. In 1996 they tied bob dole to Newt Gingrich helping in bill clintons reelection. Bill nancy pelosi can raise money, thats one thing she can do. Thats a big part of her. Exactly. And one of the reasons that democrats say theyre so willing to keep her around when she has such high unfavorables among independents. The numbers, pelosi raised 34. 2 million for democrats in the third quarter. 250 fundraising events, 29 cities. Total haul from nancy pelosi for the 2018 cycle 121. 7 million for democrats, bill, as you note thats a lot of money. It brings up this important question for democrats. How much is that money worth when you already have Democratic House candidates saying they will not vote for her for speaker . Its becoming an increasingly big issue in the swing congressional districts. Bill well done in d. C. Nice to see you. Julie it is the end of an era for a childhood staple as the actor who created the voices of big bird and oscar the grouch retires from sesame street after nearly 50 years. Never coming back . Never. I dont understand. Everything was just fine. Why does it have to be this way . Julie he is 84 years old has voiced both characters since the shows First Episode in 1969 and although he is retiring this week his final performances will air on hbo next year in the shows 50th season. We grew up watching these wonderful characters. He loved his job. Will you be doing this at 84 . Bill i dont know, come back then. Do you think the average consumer understands what theyre signing up for . I dont think the average person likely reads that whole document. I think there are different ways we can communicate that and have a responsibility to do so. Bill thats Lindsey Graham with Mark Zuckerberg last april over the facebook privacy policy. Since then facebook has been analyzing to see how misleading posts affected the 2016 election. This a major concern only weeks away from another election, the midterms. Nathaniel gleicher is head of cybersecurity in facebook and here in our studio in new york. This is a massive job. I dont know how you do it in the end. Go ahead and set the table. What is facebook trying to do . Our goal is to insure public debate on the platform will be authentic and open heading into the midterms and why weve pulled together 20 of the core teams that work on security on facebook to a war room, a physical space where we have data science, we have our Threat Intelligence investigators looking for these threats. We have the products engineers, policy team who all can Work Together. When new threats emerge they can identify them quickly and respond. Bill how many people are there . Its a small room, 25, 30 people in the room. Bill 25, 30 people. 1. 5 billion users. I did a lot of reading yesterday and a lot of reading this morning and we were just talking about this during the commercial break. I keep coming back to whether or not what the plan is, whether or not its possible given the size of your company. Is it . Right now we have 20,000 people across the company that work on security and safety in some way. Think of the war room as the nerve center of a much broader effort. In addition to the people, we also have Automated Systems. Human investigators and Automated Systems Work Together. You cant really solve a challenge like this without both tools. Within its core, people trying to manipulate public debate is a security challenge. Bill if you put it in two categories. Humans on one side, Artificial Intelligence on the other. The Artificial Intelligence dwarfs the Human Interaction when you try to figure out this puzzle, does it not . What would be the ratio. Is it 100 to 1, 1,000 to 1 . Is it a million to 1 . Its different. What you want is for the most sophisticated, challenging threats you want your human investigators focused on that. For the broad sort of challenges you see across the environment. Spammers, fraudsters, people less sophisticated you want the Automated System to clean that up and have your human investigators focusing on the more complex one. When you have a space for public debate there will always be people that will target it. The goal is can you find them as quickly as possible and remove them as quickly and possible and identify core behaviors that they use . Which is what we try to do and make them different. Bill how do you determine whats fake news from a false report about polling lines or delay times at a polling station, or violence at a polling station . How do you determine that . So there are a couple of answers to that. The first thing is we work with Third Party Fact checkers independent organizations that can help us understand what might have happened. The second thing is we have really close partnerships with state election officials, people on the ground in these places so if Something Like that happens theyll see it first and warn us. The third thing and the most important is you can engage with us based on the content whats being said but engage based on the behaviors. There are certain techniques people use when they try to manipulate and confuse public debates. Fake accounts, fake engagement to make it look like is more popular than what it really is. Its based on behavior not whats said. Bill campaigns are coming to facebook to exercise. Has the company considered not to run campaign ads . We dont need the money, its not a big part of our business. Have you considered that first of all . We take seriously who can advertise and how. Political advertising. Its important that people be able to have this conversation and facebook is one of the places they want to have it. When weve had this conversation, what is most important is transparency. When people are looking at any kind of political ad. Bill it would free up sources to do other things and clean up the site. A couple of challenges there. The first is these are important messages and people want to deliver them. The second is what do you define as a political ad . We found that there are issue ads, ads that deal with important political issues that run broadly. There are a lot of ads that could be implicated. We want to make sure when someone is running an advertisement like this we know who is behind it. Thats why our political ads transparency program. If an advertising runs a political ad they have to do a verification so you know who they are and a record of the ads. You can see if youve run an ad i can see all the ads youve run and understanding the ads youre running is an incredible benefit. Bill i know its important to the public. Bill 10 00 here in new york. 10 00 at the white house. Fox news alert. President trump meeting this hour with mike pompeo trying to figure out what happened to that missing columnist. Welcome to hour two here. Im bill hemmer live in new york. How are you doing, julie . Julie i love the jogging around the studio stuff. Secretary pompeo will be giving the president a full rundown in the oval office after his meetings in turkey and saudi arabia. Bill the president withholding judgment saying he wants all the evidence before making a decision on this matter, including what could be or could not be possible recordings from turkey. Have you asked for this audio, video intelligence the turks have it . President trump if it exists we have asked for it. Weve asked for it if it exists. Are you surprised they havent turn it over . Im not sure it exists. Ill have a full report on mike when he comes back. That is going to be the first question i ask. Bill we have former u. S. Ambassador to saudi arabia live in a moment. Benjamin hall picks up the story from turkey today. We saw investigators searching the consulate behind me and the consul generals residents and they insist that khashoggi was killed, tortured and dismembered inside those Diplomatic Missions and have found evidence of that inside the consulate and have audio recordings. The recordings havent been released and were waiting for the facts. Were getting names from the turkish media. We had pictures of the men who came off in private jets now growing focus on one key man who is claimed to be saudi intelligence. He has traveled extensively with the crown prince perhaps as a bodyguard. There is no indication of a direct link between the two. He was known to have been attached to the Diplomatic Mission in london and one of the key focuses of their investigation. The saudi investigation, ive heard from sources they hope to have it completed by sunday or monday. Thats underway following secretary pompeos visit to the company. The mean identified by turkey have been interrogated in saudi arabia about khashoggis disappearance and why they were pictured in turkey. Earlier today we heard there was a video circulating in saudi arabia of one of those suspects which he claims he hasnt been to turkey for three years. Pompeo and trump will meet and we hope we have more information. Despite the smiles you saw in the Saudi Arabian meeting. Behind closed doors there was tough talking with secretary pompeo. One last point important to point out everything were getting at the moment is in the turkish media drip, drip, drip and waiting for the facts. They have controlled the story so far and hoping in the coming days and after the meeting between secretary pompeo and President Trump well get more facts. Bill thank you, sir. With me now former u. S. Ambassador to saudi Arabia Robert jordan. We spoke two days ago. How do you think this is unfolding now . Well, it still remains to be seen how transparent the turks will be for the information. Has they have been dribbling it out it presents a very grave situation with a lot of explaining for the saudis to do. My guess is secretary pompeo gave them a very stern message in private and we now need to see the facts as they unfold. Bill joe biden was on cbs earlier today. Want to have a quick listen to what he says. And you know where this all starts between the Obama Administration and what they favored versus the Trump Administration and what they favor now. Here is joe biden from earlier today. Im very worried that the president seems to have a love affair with autocrats and the idea he is making excuses before the facts are known is typical but hurts us internationally. Bill here is the point to be made on this, sir. The longer it goes, the more you allow people to cast opinions out there about what they think is going on. And absent the truth about what happened inside that consulate, were left to wonder and the imaginations run wild. What do you think about that . Well, of course it takes a lot of imagination and activity to go through a long period like this but lets remember one of the reasons its taking so long is because the saudis denied access to the consulate for almost two weeks and even longer for access to the consul generals home. The turks had a hard time getting in. At the same time it looked like they were scrubbing the crime scene. Cleaning it, repainting walls. These are all signs of guilt to any investigator. So i think this is a very negative way that we have to view the saudi conduct up to this point. Secondly, i think youve got to see where these recordings are, how reliable they are, but apparently they paint a difficult picture for the saudis to explain. We have video of Jamal Khashoggi going into the consulate. Not coming out. We hear rumors of stories about some kind of cover story on a rogue operation but even that makes no sense. So i think weve got a lot of information floating around here that needs to be nailed down and it is about time it was done. Julie this is such an internationally disturbing story on so many levels. Diplomatically, put that aside. Why is it that were not learning more . The turkish officials are saying theyre being transparent in the investigation . Why is it that the Washington Post seems to know more . A turkish source told a washington source the murder happened, screams were heard and fingers cut off and body dismembered. There is no transparency. The United States needs to step up pressure not only on turkish officials but saudi officials. In the meeting between pompeo today, what do you expect to come out . More information has to be surfaced. My guess is that privately we arent giving the saudis the benefit of the doubt. I can understand some sort of effort to keep things in play until more specific facts are known. But the circumstantial evidence here is quite strong against the saudis. I suspect secretary pompeo has made that opinion clear to the saudis. They have a lot of explaining to do. They can do it in private initially but at some point it has to come out. Bill thank you, sir, Robert Jordan with us. Hope you come back. Thank you from dallas, texas, this morning. Seven minutes past. Roll this. Ive never had Police Security before. Capitol Police Protect me before until the kavanaugh hearings. This is on the ballot. What do you want america to look like once the election is over do you want those who lost assault physically who won and after an election Work Together and try to govern the country. Julie the midterm elections are an opportunity for voters to weigh in on the lack of civility in our politics. Is there civility in politics . I dont remember that. Lets bring in the ateam. Capri cafaro, school of public affairs. Guy benson for town hall. Com and Fox News Contributor and Morgan Ortagus former Financial Intelligence analyst for the Treasury Department. Lets start with you, morgan. Civility in politics. I dont think oxymoron. Julie nonetheless, what is happening . I think specifically as it relates to these protestors, as senator graham said last night on hannity many senators have had to have security presence that they havent had before. It has scared a lot of people on the hill. We saw what happened in the baseball shooting practice and not to equate all of these protestors with one crazy person but there is a worry that amongst these crowds of protestors is there some unhealthy individuals that could do what we saw or even worse at the baseball practice . After the midterms i know congressional leadership will get together to see what can we do in future hearings. Really, i think they lost control of the security situation. Thats whats most concerning. It goes beyond politics. The police did an amazing job, the best job they could do. That was a complete lack of handling the security erous to republican and Democrat Members of congress alike. Bill ted cruz walking to an airport. This happens all the time now. Thank you, sir, god bless you. I believe in due process. You believe in due process . Lots of women were out there talking about their stories. Do you believe in a man lying about his alcohol in front of the senate . Do you believe in perjure see . Thank you for expressing your First Amendment rights. Bill on and on it goes. You cant escape them. There is an important distinction between our rough and tumble shrill politics and a form of protest that crosses a line into intimidation. Not political intimidation like if you vote the wrong way well vote you out but physical intimidation. We know where you are. We know where you live. We know where you are dining. You will not have a moments peace if you dont do what we want. I think that is the mobtype mentality that some of us are talking about. Look, i think it can be true, number one, our politics is too over the top in our rhetoric on both sides, yes. I also think that sometimes the media swooping in to play Civility Police is very selective and tends to disproportionately cut in one direction as opposed to the other. What we should be looking at most closely is where is the line between acceptable allamerican protests and something that is much less healthy . I think were seeing some stuff thats much less healthy. Bill there is a camera everywhere. There is no question. What we just saw with ted cruz, this is not even what life was like 10, 15 years ago because of smartphones. You are basically on the clock all the time. Youve heard about in campaigns people have trackers where they follow the candidate around and they try to get sound and figure out what theyre doing. Now every human being is a tracker. As a former public servant, look, you are on call 24 7 and ted cruz might be walking through an airport but he is still accountable to the people. That does not mean they should always get in his face even though people did follow me into the ladys room. I had death threats. My staff has been threatened. Ive seen a lot of stuff. We have to remember that particularly as a democrat i have been incredibly disturbed by what has happened. The fact of the matter is that this is a small minority that is vocal but when we have some of the Party Leaders saying go out there and stir the pot, that is where we lose and thats where we lose credibility and we all get painted like crazies. I agree with the honorable capri cafaro. I wish we had more democrats spaoeng out about this. It is not something i would condone if the republican side were doing it. The fact that we have to ramp up security for our elected officials because of some instances paid protestors doing things are media attention, how do i get more twitter and facebook hits. The house is a little different calculus. You are dealing with a smaller number of people in the individual congressional districts but there is no question it impacts. Bill ted cruz has to worry about where he is going to eat tonight. They may be right around the corner again for him. Or hounding him out of a restaurant with his wife that happened after the kavanaugh vote. It doesnt help when the most recent standard bearer of the party on the democratic side is saying civility is not possible with a party that wants to destroy what we believe in. So i think the big double standard that frustrates a lot of conservatives is when right wing rhetoric gets a little overheated or someone does something that can be pinned on the right the media is all over it. Every republican is asked by reporters will you condemn, will you condemn. On the other hand eric holder, clinton, Maxine Waters and it is like oh, we have people on other networks scolding conservatives calling it mob action. Bill their leaders are encouraging it. People trying to get traction for 2020 out of some of the more extreme leftists. Bill thank you, stand by. Thats just one part. In a moment former f. B. I. Attorney james baker about to face tough questions on capitol hill. Watch here. What did you guys do . Was there some kind of legal analysis of looking to record the president of the United States . What subsequent meetings took place . Bill baker appearing behind closed doors at this hour. They cant wait to get answers on the rosenstein wiretap allegations. S. Attorney who is looking into things that went on in the f. B. I. . We dont get that information and he is a no show and Glenn Simpson takes the fifth. Of course were frustrated. Bill jim jordan slamming deputy a. G. Rod rosenstein before todays testimony by former f. B. I. Attorney james baker. He appears before the House Judiciary Committee now. John pistole is our guest. Now the president of anderson university. Great to have you back and good morning to you. Thank you, bill. Bill how much does baker know . Well, he knows a lot being the general counsel at the f. B. I. The question is how much is relevant to the current house investigation and then how much is current to the Mueller Investigation . Which obviously he has been in a position to provide quite a bit of information especially to the Mueller Investigation. Julie how is it that Rod Rosenstein has somehow managed to pretty much blow off the gop when it comes to any answers about wiretapping . He originally denied he spoke about it. It seems there is evidence that conflicts his statements and that he goes and talks to the wall street journal about it and today james baker is testifying and he once again will be asked about questions. It is not looking good for Rod Rosenstein and the story he didnt plan on wiretapping the president on his second week on the job. Well, i think rod is in a challenging position as the Deputy Attorney general overseeing the Mueller Investigation with the attorney general being recused. That being said, the sourcing of the information about the potential possible wiretapping of the president , as i understand is single sourced from the former Deputy Director. So the question is how credible is that . And then was it done in jest, thats only a question rod can answer. Julie if you have nothing to hide why not talk to those who want to question you. Jim jordan thats a million questions for this guy but he is only answering journalists questions. Why not just get to the facts . That is only the department and justice and rod can answer in terms of specific. When i was the Deputy Director and the head of tsa congress will have questions about some deliberative processes that may or may not be appropriate to share at a certain time. So it could be a timing issue, it could be a content issue. There are a number of factors that congressman jordan and Rod Rosenstein would need to work out. Bill how much do you think theyre trying to run out the clock . How much consideration to you give that . Ive known rod for a while and i just dont see him doing that. I think there is legitimate oversight concerns. Coupled with the executive branchs interest in making sure theyre doing a very deliberative process. That being said there are a number of Unanswered Questions as to the timing and the content of what you would provide for example when he goes to the hill next week to meet with congressional overseers. Bill you worked with bob mueller five or six years . Almost six years as a Deputy Director, three years before that. Bill what is your level of confidence how he is moving forward . Yeah. Bob mueller is a very deliberate and conscienceous person. My work with him as his deputy he is very methodical and thorough. And given that, i dont think he is basing his investigation timing on any external standards. He is doing a thorough job that is going to take it to the logical conclusion, whatever that is, on the timetable that makes sense from his perspective. Recognizing the huge potential impact of the outcome of his investigation. But not defined by an artificial deadline. Julie mueller took the reigns as f. B. I. Director about a week before the 9 11 attacks and he had to oversee some of the most significant changes in the centuryold bureau. He is now special counsel. Also politically speaking there is a lot of talk about political bias in this investigation with former f. B. I. Members, texting things that were clearly biased. What would you say about Robert Mueller having to weed through the political bias that surrounds and engulfed the russia probe . Right. I think the American People should have great confidence in knowing that bob mueller is in charge of this investigation. He is not out there in the press. He is not making Public Comments about anything. He is just doing a very thorough, methodical job of getting the facts out. And as weve seen from the over two dozen indictments and several guilty pleas and things he is making progress along the line of questioning that has been developed. What we dont know is the bigger issues as to his original mandate about possible collusion with the russians. So thats whats still out there. Bill two specific questions, one has to do with timing and the things weve seen papadopoulos. Would you expect him to make a move before the vote or after . No, both the department of justice and f. B. I. Guidelines which strongly recommend taking no action immediately prior to an election. I also dont see i saw reports this morning that there is some belief that he might make a major announcement right after the election. I wouldnt put a whole lot of confidence in that because again, it depends on what the timing is. Bill its a guessing game entirely is that what that answer tells me. It is. Bill George Papadopoulos gets 10 or 12 days behind bars. It was after a year and a half, two years of investigation. Just from a legal standpoint from a Law Enforcement perspective, how serious is it ultimately for what theyre trying to figure out here . If one of your lead witnesses you were hot on his tail from the very beginning. Some two years down the road serves less than two weeks in jail, what is this all about . Yeah. So obviously the f. B. I. Doesnt determine the sentencing. A federal judge does that. That being said, if somebody has demonstrated considerable and helpful information in terms of that cooperation, then that is factored in and the judge takes it into consideration. There are so many Unanswered Questions. One is i think there may be a misperception that bob mueller is going to issue some type of public report when its all said and done. Thats not his obligation or mandate. His responsibility is to provide a report to Rod Rosenstein as the Deputy Attorney general or his successor if he is no longer there or new attorney general if that person is not recused but not necessarily to do a major public address or anything like that. Bill i guess what im driving at here. For those who remi believe that the trump team colluded with moscow during the election. Could they be incredibly disappointed in the end . Oh, somebody is going to be disappointed because of the heightened expectations one way or the other. Again, i think the American People should take great confidence in is the integrity and professionalism and hard work of bob mueller and his team whatever the outcome. They should take confidence in the outcome. Julie what is in the future for Rod Rosenstein . It was sort of in question recently. Yes. Well, only he and the president know that after their trip last week to florida to speak to the police group. Apparently their conversation was such that he should stay in office at least for the immediate future. But he has been through a lot these last couple years obviously as the Deputy Attorney general with attorney general sessions being recused from the russia investigation. So the shelf life for Deputy Attorney general is two, maybe a little more years. He will be coming up on that and well have to see. Bill appreciate you coming in today. John pistole. Thank you. Julie President Trump now threatening to use the military to shut down the southern border as a caravan of nearly 4,000 migrants move north. Bill lots of open seats and tight races across the country. Will President Trumps traveling make a difference . Its montana, nevada, arizona. Our ateam is coming up with their take after this. Julie the midterms are less than three weeks away and President Trump is heading west today for another big campaign tour. Montana, arizona, nevada, all eyes there. Back with americas ateam. Capri cafaro, Morgan Ortagus and guy benson. Where is the biggest amount of pressure when it comes to the gop . The president feels the pressure and why he is going there. I think its nevada currently held by a republican. It is very narrow. And it is a state that Hillary Clinton won in 2016. So i think that it remains to be seen whether or not President Trump going there is actually going to do what he is intending, which is fire up the base or backfire. The last segment we talked about because of some of the things that happened and the fallout in the kavanaugh confirmation process that democrats have lost some momentum on the senate side. This race in particular is interesting because it is so narrow and because it is a state that Hillary Clinton won. Bill conversely on that, morgan, i look at montana and we havent had a poll there in a month. I dont know what happened in 30 days to influence voters. Montana the population is smaller. Three visits by the president now. It i think it could. The president revs up these peoples at the rallies. Hours of lines for the rallies. Four hours since he first announced and still a rock star. In the fox new poll out today something that surprised me is healthcare is still the top issue among 58 among voters going into the midterms. I thought we have the kavanaugh and scotus at 46 . The Mueller Investigation down at 30. Economy and 54. I thought economy and taxes and kavanaugh would be higher. Well see if the bump the republicans got from kavanaugh sticks. Bill healthcare, skip that. Lets put there it is. Thank you. Mueller investigation is at the bottom at 30 . Guy, do you know, go back to the previous poll. Guys. The difference between a democratic preference and a republican preference has not changed in two months. It is still seven points. Thats a good but not great number for the democrats. What has changed a little bit in our fox news poll so far this is a bit of an outlier but intriguing if its a trend. The president is at 47 approval. One of the best numbers weve seen from him in a mainstream poll in a long time. If he is at 47 nationally, he is a lot better than that in places like missouri and north dakota and indiana and montana. So the Montana Point im glad you brought up. We have gotten about a billion polls roughly statistically speaking out of texas, nothing out of montana or indiana for quite some time. A while in missouri as well. I have heard from my sources the montana race is close. It is not an accident the president keeps going back there. People said jon tester is safe. He has voted against both Supreme Court nominees for President Trump. Both of whom are Second Amendment supporters. He voted for two antiSecond Amendment Supreme Court justices. Jon tester. Bill voted against tax reform. I think he is vulnerable. Heller is hanging by a thread there. Arizona is that open seat where the democrats seem to be favored. It looks like their nominee doesnt much care for the people of arizona as it turns out which might be a problem for them. Its interesting how arizona will play. Jeff flake sort of being at the middle of the controversy behind the kavanaugh nomination. How is that going to work out . If the president is there visiting arizona expected to boost congresswoman Martha Mcsally the republican there. How does jeff flakes involvement in all this help or hurt the Republican Party in arizona . It is a good question. We cant forget about the looming memory of john mccain. So arizona is, i think, very unique at this point and kristin has had some momentum there. I dont know how much jeff flake is injecting himself into it. Bill i would characterize arizona in two words. Arizona its healthcare and immigration. They can cut two different ways. Here is gingrich on what he thinks the case is. This election is a life and death struggle with a Left Wing Movement which wants to radicalize america. You are happy that there are more people at work. That took people off food stamps. It meant they were no longer dependent on government. So if youre a left wing democrat thats actually bad, not good. I think two words are going to define the 2018 election in the next three weeks. One is kavanaugh, and the other is caravan. Bill succinct. He is a genius. I thought it was interesting, a life and death struggle of the Left Wing Movement. I think whats interesting the democrats should naturally have the advantage here but i think theyve scared off a lot of mainstream voters. If youre in arizona you may not want to see families separated at the border but you certainly dont want to see ice abolished. Thats a bridge too far. The one thing that axios reported this morning that is not getting enough play. This is at a 2 billion midterm with the amount of money raised and democrats are out raising republicans by a mile. So going into Election Night if democrats cant take the house with the amount of fundraising they are beating the republicans on in the midterm will be a scary 2020 for them. I think the democrats are favored to win the house. Not the huge landslides. A long night for us, guy. I think it will be very narrow and thats also going to continue to create a challenge of governing in washington going forward. Bill what about gingrichs point about the caravan . The images will be out there. It will only get more attention in places like arizona. I think its really again down to how the individual candidates and these individual districts and states approach these issues. Just because we have more left wing people that are noisy saying that this is something that the entire Democratic Party stands for, thats not necessarily the case. I think to your point, morgan, it is the responsibility of someone like kristin we also understand there are National Security issues and necessity to have a strengthened border and try to strike that balance. Were also seeing democrats not necessarily gaining traction with the latino and hispanic vote in the midterm election. One other point. We talked about this report yesterday that democratic groups have done polling and theyre urging their candidates in the swing districts not to touch immigration, which i think is interesting. Bill morgan, thank you, guy, capri. Julie i will never follow you to the bathroom. Bill hurricane michael, crews are trying to turn back the power in the hardest hit areas. Some neighborhoods dont exist anymore. Rick leventhal is back in panama city, florida. How is it going . Were at one of eight staging sites for gulf power. Theyre dispatching housing and feeding 7200 crews helping to restore and rebuild the power grid here in the panama city, bay county hardest hit areas of the florida panhandle. Mess tents where they serve three meals a day. Firstaid trailer and they have sleeper trailers where these guys are bunking down when they can while they work 16 hour shifts, 24 7 around the clock and there are an endless line of trucks coming in here, getting supplies, transformers, that sort of thing and loading up and heading out again as they go to repair some of those downed lines and downed poles. They have replaced at least 5600 poles so far. They dont know how many transformers but they know they replaced 10,000 spans of wires. The wire between the poles. 10,000 of those alone. The spokesman for gulf power called this a logistical symphony. Here is what he told me. Its monumental. The biggest effort is coordinating the 7200 crews on the ground, as you can imagine. It is like bringing a whole city in here and you have to house them, feed them, bathe them, get their laundry done. Think of all of those things. We have little cities. Eight cities spread out across where they can launch out from and start restoring power. Jeff says these utility workers are driven. They arent just restoring power but restoring hope. This is their hero moment. 95 of the people who can get power restored will get the power by the end of next week but a tremendous amount of work to be done. Bill amazing just to see the images. Thank you to you and all the fox crews down there. President trumps hard line stance, is it paying dividends for steelworkers in america . Julie well talk about it. President trump telling federal agencies to tighten their belts to the tune of 5 apiece. Can it be done . Money man Charles Payne is on deck to answer it all. He is asking them to cut the fat, not cut the essentials. This is a president who when he signed the last omnibus dont send me Something Like this again because i wont sign it. S. It was environmentally contaminated. One of the biggest successes we had early on, was entering agreements with the epa on cleaning up the property. Were recycling over 98 of the products on site. It has been one of those days. My gosh. How are you . One of those weeks. Bill payne, charles. Your winning streak broke yesterday. Although during my hour the market came back. Bill here we go. Julie taking credit for that. Bill he is moving the goalpost. S p and nasdaq were higher. Bill steelworkers are making good news. Their average raise before was 1 1 2 yearoveryear. They will get a lump sum bonus and profit sharing. Theyre doing really well. Alcoa is up 8 1 2 , first time theyre buying stock back since 2007. The metals business, those companies are coming back. Bill amazing. As the president says we want American Steel not chinese steel. I know people say listen, its not unlike were not we could have a war with china in 10 or 15 years. I want to supply our own steel and aluminum to build our battle ships. Canada is our friend. It is a National Interest to have better capacity. Bill i want to ask you about another story. The president announced he wants some cuts from every department across the board. Here is how it went. President trump im going to ask each of you to come back with a 5 budget cut from your various departments. Ive heard about the penny plan for 15 years. One penny every year per dollar, one penny every year after four or five years the country is in good shape. Im saying lets not do the penny plan, lets do the five penny plan. I think its great. 2019 budget a lot of these departments have already pledged they will cut. Education, 7 billion cut. 11 health and Human Services at 21 cut. Hud saying theyll have an 18 cut. Interior 16 cut. Labor 21 cut. State department 26 cut. Department of transportation a 19 cut. Well see if it can be done. It is one of the platforms the republicans ran on, bloated government. Bill one of the big deals you see is the candidates saying im worried about the debt, deficit. After that spending bill the republicans have a lot of space savings to do. Our deficit soared and theyve got to make up a whole lot of lost ground. This is a good first step. Julie moving into the election the economy is of top concern. Getting this done, getting these tax cuts that weve gotten accomplished and now these budget cuts, what does this do for republicans . Its remarkable. Another report out this time overnight by a big swiss bank saying wealth grew more in america than anywhere else in the last year, 6. 3 trillion in the last year. There is a lot of money. Our economy is alive. Everyone knows it and sees it whether its anecdotal. Anyone getting a car will drive by a strip mall and see a help wanted sign. People see raises in their paycheck. America is coming back big time economically and we want to keep that going. Bill the quote was relentless rise in Household Wealth. Is that equities . Facebook, amazon, google making the 401k boom housing has come back strong. The flip side of that and ill be talking about this on my show politically you get a swath of americans now saying theyre saying the average Household Wealth in america is almost 400,000. People look around saying that aint me. So it becomes a political issue. All of the success morphs into a Major Political issue about sharing and how to get it into more hands. Bill kudlow saying 4 growth when gdp comes out in 10 days. Did he say that . He said it will still be 4 . I think it will be. Im not giving up on that. We came into 2017, 1. 2 or 1. 6 . We thought under 2 would be the norm. Bill right now mike pompeo is meeting with the president and julie, were told in a matter of moments mike pompeo will emerge from the west wing after this meeting and come to the microphone and answer some questions and see how the conversation went and where we are in the story. Julie well be watching this and much more coming out of washington stay with us. Everything was so fresh in the beginning. But that plug quickly faded. Luckily theres new febreze plug. It cleans away odors and freshens for 1200 hours. Breathe happy with new febreze plug. Bill mike pompeo at the white house. I had a chance to brief the president on the travels that i returned from last evening where i traveled both to saudi arabia and turkey. I had a chance to talk with in riyadh with the king, with the crown prince, foreign minister. All of the United States counterparts there. We made clear to them that we take this matter with respect to mr. Khashoggi very seriously. They made clear to me they, too, understand the serious nature of the disappearance of mr. Khashoggi. They also assured me that they will conduct a complete, thorough investigation of all of the facts surrounding mr. Khashoggi and that theyll do so in a timely fashion. The report itself will be transparent for everyone to see, ask questions about and inquire with respect to thoroughness. I told President Trump this morning we ought to give them a few more days to complete that so that we, too, have a complete understanding of the facts surrounding that at which point we can make decisions how or if the United States should respond to the incident surrounding mr. Khashoggi. I think its important for us all to remember, too, we have a law since 1932, a long strategic relationship with the kingdom of saudi arabia that continue to be important Counter Terrorism partner, they have custody of the two holy sites. Theyre an important Strategic Alliance of the United States. We need to be mindful of that as well. When i traveled and met with president erdogan, he talked to me about the incident. He told me that they were conducting their own investigation. We had a chance to meet with some of the Team Involved with that. He assured me they would share their results with the saudis as well. So we do believe between these two efforts a complete picture will emerge for what actually transpired here, and were working towards that and looking forward to that wrapping up quickly and we expect it will be done in that way. [inaudible question] how can saudi arabia be trusted to have a fair investigation . Well all get to see the work and the response that the kingdom of saudi arabia takes with us. When we see that well get a chance to determine, all of us will get a chance to make a determination with respect to the credibility and work that went into that. Whether its truly accurate, transparent in the way they made a personal commitment to me and the crown prince also made a personal commitment to the president when he spoke to him i believe it was the night before last. [inaudible question] there are a lot of stories about what happened. There are lots of stories. Can you tell us anything . There are lots of stories out there about what happened. Well allow the process to move forward. The facts unfold and as we make a determination for ourselves about what happened there based on the facts that are presented to us, the United States will determine what the appropriate response might be. Thank you all for your time today. Bill pretty interesting comments there. We take it seriously. Ought to give them a few more days is what mike pompeo told President Trump a moment ago and well determine if the u. S. Should respond. He mentioned the relationship going back to 1932. This Strategic Alliance has so many trails run through the kingdom of saudi arabia and the u. S. Julie this right now all the pressure thats coming in mounting on turkish officials and on the president begs the question will President Trump be forced to put down a stronger fist when it comes to punishment here . The president is waiting for the facts. Bill he mentioned transparency. We will all see what the kingdom of saudi arabia does. Theyve given a personal commitment to me and to the president on behalf of the king they would be transparent and they would provide what they discover. What facts they come up with when they know them. You think about terrorism, you think about gas prices, middle east strategy. The relationship with saudi arabia and how it counter balances iran in that region. This administration, they two years ago made it their intent this was their strategy to move away toward iran and move toward saudi arabia. Julie a lot of diplomatic pressure. The relationship with saudi arabia has been a dicey one. Who do you trust . You trust the facts, you dont trust the person. Bill it will be a few more days based on that comment. In a few minutes Chris Wallace has a look on all this and the impact of the midterms as the president hits the campaign trail. Well talk to chris in studio today. Plus a 4,000 person caravan surging toward the southern border as the president threatens to shut it down with the military. Mike mccaul is our guest coming up in the next hour here. There is no obligation and the book is free. Bill 11 in new york. President trump briefed by his secretary of state of state on the missing columnist Jamal Khashoggi. Ifm im live in new york. Julie im in for sandra smith this morning. The president working to get to the bottom of what happened all while stressing the key role saudi arabia plays in our foreign policy. Pompeo speaking to reporters just minutes ago. Listen. We made clear to them that we take this matter with respect to mr. Khashoggi very seriously. They made clear to me they, too, understand the serious nature of the disappearance of mr. Khashoggi. They also assured me that they will conduct a complete, thorough investigation of all of the facts surrounding mr. Khashoggi and that they will do so in a timely fashion. Julie john roberts has more. A little surprise the secretary of state came out here to talk. He has a flight to catch to panama and he likely wouldnt come out. As happened before, the president probably said after their meeting you go on out there and you inform the press as to is going on and what we talked about. The president wants there to be transparency here because he is getting a lot of criticism that he is running cover for saudi arabia. And here is a little more what the secretary of state said just a few minutes ago. There are lots of stories out there about what has happened. We just are going to allow the process to move forward. A lot of the facts to unfold. As they unfold and make a determination for ourselves about what happened there based on the facts that are presented to us, the United States will determine what the appropriate response might be. The big issue here is what involvement, if any, that man right there, Mohammed Bin Salman, the crown prince of saudi arabia had to do with Jamal Khashoggis disappearance. The secretary of state were told by sources, despite the smiles and good feelings in the photo op was very direct with Mohammed Bin Salman with Stewart Varney yesterday President Trump said an investigation should get to the bottom of whether or not mbs was involved. President trump hopefully its working out. Well find out and get down to the bottom of it. I hope that the king and the crown prince didnt know about it. Thats a big factor in my eyes. I hope they havent. We didnt get a chance to ask the secretary of state about this. Turkey has identified 15 suspects in the disappearance of khashoggi. It also says it has Graphic Audio of what it says is khashoggis torture and murder. One of the suspects is identified said to be a saudi Intelligence Officer and frequently seen traveling with Mohammed Bin Salman. Other suspects identified are members of the royal guard and the Saudi Security forces. The former Vice President joe biden who is also a possible 2020 contender says there should be consequences for saudi arabia in this case. Listen here. Absolutely positively. This was a permanent american resident. I just dont know why we this administration seems to feel the need to coddle autocrats, dictators, i dont understand it. He was assured transparency by the saudi government but questions raised what is happening in saudi arabia. There is a report in a proturkish newspaper coming out of turkey that one of these 15 suspects mysteriously died in a car accident in riyadh yesterday. That has not been confirmed by saudi officials. Julie john, ahead of the president s Campaign Swing switching gears here this weekend he tweeted about the southern border this morning. What was that all about . One of the places he will go visit campaigning for Martha Mcsally in arizona will be arizona. He will be down near the border, not on it. The president taking aim at mexico and other Central American countries for this caravan of people from honduras and guatemala making their way toward mexico and ultimately the president believes to the u. S. Border. This is the second caravan this year. The president tweeting this morning, quote, in addition to stopping all payments to these countries talking about guatemala, hond aour as and others i must ask mexico to stop this onslaught and if unable to do so i will call up the u. S. Military and close our southern border. That no doubt will be a big topic of conversation when he is in arizona. The president also going later today to montana to campaign for Matt Rosendale locked in a tough fight against the democrat jon tester. He is then off to nevada saturday to campaign for dean heller. Threeday Campaign Swing coming up for the president. Bill lets show you whats on the line now with the trip here as we get ready 19 days away. John was just mentioning the race up in montana. It is razor tight based on the polling that was a month ago. Just three points separating the two. This is what i find interesting. You go back two years ago. Lets pop over here to montana. This is the state the president won by 20 points. Keep this in mind about the margin in montana. The margin in north dakota from 2016, the margin from indiana as we go toward election day 19 days from now. Then its down to arizona. Interesting, too. The president won that state by four points over Hillary Clinton but in nevada, the final stop up here, joe biden will be there next week as well is a state that Hillary Clinton won over donald trump by two points. That gives you a little bit of the lay of the land. Lets move here and talk to mr. Sunday. Mr. Sunday soup, all that stuff, Chris Wallace. On the thursday you should pay extra. Bill youll get something for that. Nice to see you. Montana is a state where you win by 20 points. Montana is a state where the population is lower and you have a real good chance of influencing a vote there 19 days out. Is that one of the more likely pickups you would see for republicans . Yes. Look, going into this race we knew that democrats were going to defend seats in 10 states that trump won, many of them by wide margins in 2016. Those were always seen as the most vulnerable states. One of them north dakota, Heidi Heitkamp may be out of reach now in terms of the fact that the republican kevin kramer looks like he has it won. In terms of montana, as you point out, still very competitive but one of the things about montana, bill, it is personal for donald trump. Remember jon tester, democratic senator from montana, the incumbent in the race, opposed and really went after Ronny Jackson, the admiral, the personal doctor to the president when the president wanted to name him as the head of the v. A. Because of testers opposition the president was forced to drop the nomination. Jackson pulled out. That didnt sit well with donald trump. He has started tweeting about that before he gets out there. Im sure he will mention Ronny Jackson and testers opposition to him and he is comparing it to Brett Kavanaugh. Another case of somebody guilty until proven innocent. Bill the tweet you referenced last night. Ever since his false statements about admiral ron jackson, the white house doctor for obama, bush and me, he behaved worse than the mob did with justice k. Fox news polling last night. Democrat candidates versus republican candidates. Seven points a month ago, seven points today. Does that tell you much . It seems people are locked in and whats interesting there, there had been all this talk about a red wave post kavanaugh that you heard Mitch Mcconnell and the president say it gave us a shot of adrenalin. It doesnt seem to be about who you want to see win in your house district. Remember, house districts are slices of the pie. A suburban district, for instance, that has tilted republican in the past, suburban republican women, College Educated may have locked in their positions about donald trump and his policies and even the kavanaugh controversy may not have changed that. Bill saudi arabia, we heard from mike pompeo. He said very interesting things. We ought to give them a few more days to figure it out referring to saudi arabia. Our relationship goes back to 1932. They gave us a commitment they would be transparent about this. How much is on the line for the administration and its strategy in the middle east . A lot of things. No question we want saudi arabia to be an ally. We see them as a key player in terms of policy standing up to iran, we see them as a key player in terms if the sanctions are imposed and iran cuts its Oil Production that maybe saudi arabia can loosen the spigiot and Keep Oil Prices stable. The president is counting on saudi arabia to support a peace deal against the palestinians. Having said that lets be honest here. Asking saudi arabia to be transparent in its investigation of what happened to Jamal Khashoggi is like asking o. J. Simpson to be transparent in an investigation in what happened to nicole simpson. Theyre implicated. We dont know who, was the crown prince involved . It seems like his fingerprints are somewhere there given the fact that some of these people were a part of the security detail, were part of the royal guard. But to say well, were counting on saudi arabia to be transparent in this investigation, they are going to try to find a solution but it wont be a transparent solution and they are certainly job one will be to protect the king and protect the crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman. Bill nice to see you here. Not bad for a thursday. Bill extra money for you. Doubt it. Julie it is coming out of the bills wallet. Fox news alert. Three americans have been injured in a shootout we understand that happened in southern afghanistan after a highlevel meeting between a top u. S. Commander and afghan authorities. One u. S. Official calling it an insider attack. National security correspondent Jennifer Griffin joins us live from the pentagon with more. Well talk to tom fitton, president of Judicial Watch. Julie illegal immigration back in the spotlight. President trump says he will get the military involved to stop a caravan of migrants heading toward the u. S. House Homeland Security chairman Michael Mccaul joins us on that and much more next. Bill President Trump wrapping up a meeting with mike pompeo a moment ago. Pompeo talked with reporters joust side the west wing calling for patience in the investigation into Jamal Khashoggis disappearance. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael Mccaul is live now in houston, texas, member of the House Foreign Affairs committee. How are you doing and thank you for your time today on this. Just want to play a quick clip from a colleague on the senate side, john kennedy from louisiana about this. I think mr. Khashoggi is dead. I dont think the aliens abducted him. I dont think he fell through a hole in the space time continuum. I think he is dead. And i think the saudis killed him. And i think whether king salman or Prince Mohammed knew about it or not is really irrelevant. Bill what is relevant do you believe to try to figure out this International Mystery . We heard from secretary pompeo, a friend and former colleague. I want this investigation to go forward. In my judgment, but it is based on my hunch, i think he is dead. Whether the crown prince had a role i think is the key question here. And i agree that we shouldnt just rely just on a saudi investigation. We should have our Intelligence Community and f. B. I. Look into this. We expect it from our foreign adversaries when al qaeda and isis beheaded daniel pearl so horrifically. We dont expect this from our allies. It is deeply disturbing and troubling to me. I know the crown prince very well. Met with him on several occasions with the speaker of the house. My judgment was that he is taking saudi in the right direction after 1979 that dark veil descended upon iran and saudi arabia. He wanted to move his country out of the darkness and allowed women to drive for the first time. Taking it in the right direction and aligning themselves with israel. Thats a key strategic issue for the saudis and israel to align themselves against iran. Unfortunately this step backwards in the wrong direction. Bill lets see where it goes. Mike pompeo is asking for a few more days and well see what comes of that. As for another International Story that affects us here at home this caravan. The president tweeted this a moment ago. Im watching the Democratic Party led because they want open borders and existing weak laws, assault on our country whose leaders are doing little to stop this large flow of people, including many criminals from entering mexico to the United States. What gives on this caravan . 19 days away from an election. A lot of these border states have immigration on their minds. I think its a key issue in this election. One side, the democrats, want a very open border, no Border Security. In fact, chairman goodlatte and i had a very Strong Border security bill. We closed the legal loopholes which would prevent this from happening and the first place. We reformed our immigration system to a meritbased system and we fixed the daca question as well. Every democrat voted against that bill. It failed on the floor. I hope that when we get back after this election and we can take the politics out of things we can get this passed for the National Security of the American People. We have to secure that border. I think once and for all. If we dont close the legal hoop holes that is treat the Central Americans like we treat the mexican people when they cross. We deport them. We dont str catch and release. We need to end that policy so we can provide a deterrent down there so they will stop sending their children and give their life savings to coyote, a dangerous coyote who will take their children up through mexico. Mexico has a role here as well. Bill. They have a 200mile border. We have a 2,000mile border. They can seal theirs more easily and they need to start doing that. We want to help them do that and we also want to help the Central American countries economically pull themselves up so we can get to the root cause of this problem in the first place. Bill Kevin Mccarthy is getting a lot of praise from republicans about his ideas of immigration. What do you think about that . What should we understand about it . I was with kevin last week. We were touring, helping out to keep protect the house majority. I think that kevins bill has my Border Security bill in it. It has 24 billion to build the wall, provide the Technology Necessary and the boots on the ground. Air, land and sea. Aviation assets as well to get this thing done. I know how to do this. I can get this done if we could just get the funding, i could work with the department to get this accomplished and kevins bill would go a long ways to get it done as well. Bill see whether or not you can be successful in the next congress. Mike mccaul in houston, texas. Well speak again. Julie breaking news on the wisconsin teenage girl. Julie all right, thank you, so much, matt finn. Bill 27 past the hour now. Treasury Department Employee accused of leaking confidential documents to the media. How the f. B. I. Apparently was caught redhanded. Julie senator Dianne Feinstein may revisit the allegations against Supreme Court Justice Brett kavanaugh. How will that go over ahead of the midterms . This is what happens when you cant win at the ballot box. You take those of us who did win and try to intimidate us into bending to your will. I have never had Police Security before. Capitol hill Police Protect me ever before until the kavanaugh hearing. In the country. You see so many people Walking Around here in their hundreds. So how do you stay financially well for all those extra years . Well, you have to start planning as early as possible. We all need to plan, for 18 years or more, of retirement. I dont have a whole lot saved up, but im working on it now. I will do whatever i need to do. Plan your Financial Life with prudential. Bring your challenges. All the tools you need for every step of the way. Make it, squarespace bill treasury employee now facing charges for leaking finance yeah information to a reporter. She had a flash drive containing the stolen information in her hand when she was arrested. Doug mcelway is tracking that story from washington what do we know . For most the Trump Administration is trying to crack down on leakers. This wop an is accused of of leaking highly confidential activity reports filed by banks and sending them to an unnamed reporter who worked for buzzfeed. Theyve published at least 12 stories about the Financial Transactions of Paul Manafort and gates and the russian embassy. The criminal complaint against edwards says she photographed the sensitive Financial Reports and texted them to the reporter through an encrypted app. When she was arrested tuesday she had in her possession a flash drive containing the incriminating information. During an interview with the f. B. I. Edwards first denied contacting buzz feed. She called herself a whistleblower. U. S. Attorney said quote, the unlawful sharing of sensitive documents will not be tolerated and will be met with swift justice by this office. Additionally a second treasury official associate director is described as a coconspirator who exchanged more than 300 encrypted messages with another reporter. That official is believed to be cooperating with the f. B. I. Edwards was released on 100,000 bonds yesterday facing two counts. Each carries a maximum of five years in jail. Bill. Bill doug mcelway, thank you, sir. Would you then be in favor or opposed to your colleagues who would want to open up the investigation of allegations against Brett Kavanaugh . Id be in favor of opening up the allegations absolutely. Julie senator Dianne Feinstein saying she would be in favor of reopening the investigation into Sexual Misconduct allegations against Supreme Court Justice Brett kavanaugh if democrats win back the majority. Another issue for voters to consider ahead of the crucial midterms. Katie pavlich is joining me now. Great to see you, katie. So lets be realistic here. Democrats chances for taking the senate dont look great but nonetheless is it a sign they cant let the confirmation of judge kavanaugh go . The chances for democrats to take the senate back are waning. Republicans look like theyll pick up seats. Senator feinstein was very disingenuous when she called for the f. B. I. Investigation into Brett Kavanaugh and these comments prove it wouldnt be enough for her and it is all political. She is in a fight for the left side of the political aisle in california. She has a more left wing opponent nipping at her heels in that state. She wasnt able to nail down the Democrat Party endorsement in california and so she is playing politics here and again smearing the name of Justice Brett kavanaugh to do so. Julie how much of this is feinstein saving face after she came under much fire from both republicans and democrats since kavanaughs confirmation after it was revealed that ford had reached out to feinstein with her allegations and asked them to remain confidential and as we know they did not . It doesnt seem to me like she is saving face but doubling down. There are serious questions about who on her staff leaked the letter exposing Christine Blasey fords name. We dont have answers on that. It goes to show that Dianne Feinstein doesnt necessarily trust the investigators of the committee that she serves. The Judiciary Committee has a variety of very qualified investigators who overturned every single allegation that was made against at the time judge kavanaugh and came up with nothing. So Dianne Feinstein is in this political race, continuing to use this as a political narrative and wedge and it is only going to help republicans nationally. She is fighting this fight in california but the rest of the country is looking at this and saying these allegations were made, very salacious and vicious and yet there was zero evidence to corroborate any of it. And yet here she is. Emboldening republican voters. Especially women. Julie we have a fox poll that Dianne Feinstein should study. When it comes to scotus where does it rank as voters head to the polls 19 days before the election . Healthcare is at 58 . Thats the president s Approval Rating. Healthcare comes in at the top. Scotus nominations 46 comes in at the bottom. So perhaps she is not listening to the voters. But she will in 19 days. Before you react to that i want you to react to this. Lindsey graham reacting to feinsteins premise and challenges other Senate Democratic hopefuls. Listen to this. Here is what i want every democratic candidate for the senate to be asked tomorrow. Do you agree with Dianne Feinstein if democrats take control of the senate, are you for a reopening the Kavanaugh Investigation . Are you for more humiliation and degrading treatment of this fine man and continuing this debacle . Every voter in all these trump states that have Democratic Senators needs to ask that question. Are you with diane or not . Julie i would say according to the fox poll that before scotus, healthcare, economy and immigration come before that. Correct, those are very important issues. However, when it comes to voter turnout, julie, the Supreme Court is something that hinges on the right side of the political aisle not as much on the left. Lets remember that a lot of people on the right voted for President Trump in 2016. Because of the Supreme Court and they saw the reason why over the course of the kavanaugh nomination, the Gorsuch Nomination and they will in the future if President Trump gets another pick for the Supreme Court. So this is about turnout. If democrats want to continue to drag Justice Kavanaugh through the mud, to smear his family and go after them in a way thats already been investigated and the door has been closed on that chapter, then i think they are only going to galvanize conservative and independent voters to vote against that mob mentality of continuing to go after this issue when we had multiple investigations. Julie where one door closes, one reopens. Now potentially Dianne Feinsteins office could be under investigation and play out in a bad way if it revealed someone in her office and she knew about it leaked the confidential letter from dr. Ford. Katie, thank you very much. Always great to see you. Bill a lot more reaction on the saudi arabia story hearing that Steve Mnuchin says he wont go to an economic summit in saudi arabia next week. Davos in the desert. Many american ceos say they wont attend and now the treasury secretary says the same. Just met with donald trump and secretary pompeo and decided i wont participate in the future Investment Initiative summit in saudi arabia. The summit now will still go on minus a number of highprofile american players. 22 minutes now before the hour. President trump heads west today. In fact his first stop is montana. His third visit to that state and the goal is to unseat a twoterm Senate Democrat by the name of jon tester. A big rally later tonight. Peter doocy is in butte, montana where the rally will begin a bit later. How are you doing . Doing well and bill, montana is where official republican groups and outside conservative groups are turning their attention right now. It is seen as perhaps the best pickup opportunity for republicans on the senate map and i just spoke to the republican candidate for the senate Matt Rosendale. He thinks part of the reason the chances have improved of a pickup because of the way the incumbent democratic senator tester helped to tank President Trumps v. A. Nominee Ronny Jackson. Jon tester came out several months ago and performed character assassination on Ronny Jackson and so he invented this smear tactic that the washington democrats are using. Dianne feinstein perfected it when she came out and performed her character assassination on judge kavanaugh. Thats what President Trump thinks is important as well. He just tweeted this. He wrote ever since his vicious and totally false statements about admiral ron jackson the white house doctor for obama, bush and me senator tester looks to be in big trouble in the great state of montana and performed worse than the mob did with justice k. One in 10 residents is active duty or military veteran. Healthcare is tester is talking about healthcare the same way many of his more liberal colleagues do. My folks had one of these plans when i got my fingers caught in a meat grinder and they didnt cover anything. If you buy junk insurance, what the commissioner is promoting, you will have nothing when you get sick. It doesnt cover preexisting conditions. Tester is about to sit down with veterans here in butte a few hours ahead of air force ones arrival here where he will rally for rosendale. Bill thank you very much. Peter hanging in there with technical issues. Julie he is a trooper, though. Bill well done. Montana, look, they voted heavily for President Trump two years ago and one of the real bar barometers if its a clue at what will happen in 19 days. Julie the president s Approval Rating and economy as he goes back to montana i believe the voters will be looking at that as well. Moving on now, breaking news out of the white house to tell you about. Emmett flood has been appointed assistant and counsel to the president. Mr. Flood will serve in the role until another counsel comes on board as part of don mcgahn leaving his post. The most informative interview to date in the f. B. I. Probe of the Trump Campaign. Now former f. B. I. Attorney is back before lawmakers. What he is telling them about a report from Rod Rosenstein allegedly suggesting secretly recording the president. I want to go from there. Com, or call 18555366695. Explain why baker is important. How much does baker know and how much would he know . Presumably he knows everything. He was one of two or three top officials in the f. B. I. Under comey and mccabe when he was acting director. And he knew all the players, peter strzok and lisa page and so in terms of this investigation, the f. B. I. Launched into President Trump or then candidate trump, the use of fisa applications and warrants. Of course, mr. Baker, i think, improperly met with the dnc clinton operation lawyer about donald trump as well. So as a lawyer, he has little interest in lying. So thats why i think he is being forthcoming as is being reported by members who have talked to him. Bill if thats the case and you think about the committee and the work theyre doing behind closed doors, is it your sense theyre moving forward on this or are they spinning their wheels . I prefer they focus more directly on the Mueller Operation. We all know this corruption behind it. The creation of the Mueller Operation is a result of this meeting that rosenstein and Andrew Mccabe had trying to overthrow the president of the United States through the 25th amendment. Instead they just came up with a special counsel to target him over the comey firing over which mr. Rosenstein approved. I think what mueller has done needs to be the focus of congress and if i were in congress i would be having mr. Mueller come in and testify about why he cant manage to find any republicans to work on his operation, why it is he fired strzok and didnt tell anyone the reason for it for four months. He knew about the bias. Other things like that. Basic operational questions about muellers administration of this special counsel kouns operation. He did not answer questions about the wiretapping reports or 25th amendment, you saw his interview in the wall street journal. Thats why jim jordan is upset. Talking to the wall street journal but not congress. This is why on the other hand, mueller is running the show. Rosenstein is not supervising him on a daytoday basis. The regulations dont allow for that. So you have to bring mr. Mueller in and ask when is this going to get done . What is going on here . Why is it you are targeting the president given the fact there is evidence about any collusion of any kind between his campaign and him personally and the russians . Bill the quote. Rosenstein said this, people are entitled to be frustrated. I can accept that. At the end of the day the public will have confidence the cases we brought were warranted by the evidence and that it was an appropriate use of resources. I insure the investigation was independent and reached the right result. You didnt need a special counsel to prosecute manafort. The russia indictments mueller has brought he has already given back to the Justice Department to pursue. In fact, because they cant be pursued so theyre sitting on a shelf in the Justice Department. We dont need a special counsel. It should be shut down. Any crimes that have been uncovered that need to be pursued can be pursued by justice Department Employees and u. S. Attorneys and such. Bill tom fitton, Judicial Watch in washington, d. C. Thanks. Julie outnumbered come up. We have a preview. No answers but more questions on the apparent killing of the Washington Post columnist. New emails show that President Trump pulled the plug to sell f. B. I. Headquarters in washington the allegation on behalf of democrats is to hinder competition from another hotel that could have moved into the property. Now democrats on the House Oversight Committee Say that the president approved a more expensive plan to demolish and rebuild the existing property on pennsylvania avenue to keep commercial developers from the area. Apparently they allege this happened in january of this past year so it would have been the date on this january 24th, 2018. Were looking into this and see where it leads out of washington, d. C. Want to pass that along to you. Julie kim jongun inviting the pope to north korea. The invitation delivered to the pontiff by south koreas president moon during his visit to the vatican. Greg palkot is there with more. The pope might do it and that would be something very new in a meeting today at the vatican that lasts 35 minutes president moon relayed the invitation from north Korean Leader from kim jongun to visit him in pyongyang. The pope said he would consider it and something more formal in the way of an invitation. Last night a special mass for peace said at st. Peters basilicas. The popes message to south korean president moon. Move forward without stopping. Do not be afraid. Thats a good one to remember. As we have been noting, julie, a visit to pyongyang by the pope would be most unusual. Technically there is freedom of worship in north korea but in reality no public religious ceremonies are allowed. There might be a few thousand catholics in the whole country. Critics say it might be a distraction to the on again, off again peace process. Remember number one, kim jongun is planning yet another meeting with president moon in seoul and there are other summits planned with putin, with xi and maybe with President Trump. Julie thank you.
