Got a few screws loose, i guess. Never really knew it until now. Air Traffic Controllers spent much of their time trying to find a safe spot for russell the land the plane. He crashed into an island here in the puget sound. They dont believe anyone was hurt or anyone else was on board. Bill how was he able to do this, jeff . That is the big question that seems to be misty filing Airline Officials, administrators and the f. B. I. We do know that he was credentialed to be in the secured areas where planes were kept. We also know that investigators dont believe any security safeguards were breached during this event. They also say that he passed an extensive background check before being hired at horizon air. As far as the actual mechanics getting inside the plane and flying Airline Officials say its a much different process than what most of us are used to who drive vehicles. The doors to the airplanes are not keyed like a car. There is not an ignition key like in a car. The setup in aviation in america is we secure the airfield and we have the mindset we have employees that are credentialed and authorized to be there to operate and do the various job responsibilities. Now we do know that investigators dont believe he was licensed to fly but if you listen to some of the air Traffic Control recordings you can hear him telling folks on the other hand he has played a few video games and experts have said certain flight simulators can give you pretty detailed instructions how to fly a plane. By any measure, there is great concern here at the white house, julie, that a former highlevel white house employee would actually record her colleagues and perhaps her superiors. What happens or what comes from that remains to be seen, julie. To say the president feels betrayed is an understatement since he got her a job at the white house and supported her career. Another one is she suggested that the president is a puppet of his chief of staff, general john kelly and to back up that claim she has another recording that seems to suggest the president was not aware of her firing. I think the strategy makes a lot of sense. Its what we all figured the president s lawyers would want him to do. Even though the president himself is not running for reelection in november, he has made himself front and center into these midterm races and got involved in primaries and campaigning around the country. It is interesting the strategy that he has taken to rev up his base to make the election about him. I dont think there is anyone if theyre being honest with themselves that would be surprised that Rudy Giuliani and the president s lawyers would like him to stay away from the investigation until the midterms are over and its fair to the American People as well. Bill what do you think muellers strategy is right now . Theyve been incredibly quiet. I dont know that they can get to the written report they want to without an interview from the president. That seems what mueller and his team have hinged the investigation on is writing a letter to congress at the end. It will be challenging for his team to do that without a letter from the president. Saying that i think there has been a lot of frustrations on both sides about the links, the amount of time the interview has taken. I give mueller and his team credit there arent a ton of leaks. Theyre running a pretty tight ship. Were still waiting to see any evidence, anything at all that this investigation is about russian collusion into our campaign. Were seeing the manafort trial, were seeing other people that are being interviewed by mueller but were still all waiting to see many a year or so later if there is anything to this russian collusion. Bill if you listen to giuliani talk repeatedly he comes back to the report. The report and well respond to it. By law mueller is required to do that or submit it to congress. So if mueller says that he told comey to lay off general flynn, trump will deny that ever happened and that came up repeatedly over the weekend. Significant point perhaps. I think that Rudy Giuliani july and the team are taking a little bit of a risk. Instead of having the report come out in a republican congress. A lot of bad things you hear have gone on in different white houses by different employees. I dont know of anyone who used a recording device in the situation room. And i tell you, dealing with omerosa, i dont know her that well. I remember seeing her during the campaign. She was the most dedicated protrump person you could meet. I remember the debate with Hillary Clinton she was organizing things. Getting speakers lined up and taking over meetings. I would see her at the white house walking into the oval office and very friendly with everyone and totally dedicated to the president. She was consumed by her support for donald trump. This is all really out of nowhere. Julie he has been her number one staunch supporter. He literally took her under his wing. As Rudy Giuliani said he made her. All the insiders thought her herring was a complete joke and the president took her in. We know she didnt break the law by secretly recording her getting fired and today she shared the fact the president seemed surprised that john kelly went ahead and took those measures into his own hands. What does it say about the secrecy in the white house and what and how does somebody go into a situation room why cell phones are not allowed and get away with it . There seems to be something gone wrong here. Yeah, they have to tighten up that security. As i said, when you go to the white house for a regular meeting in the cabinet room. There is a special location where everyone has to put their cell phone. Thats a nonclassified open meeting. To go into the situation room, i would think they should have some kind of detection or something. I guess you cant be frisking every cabinet official walking into the situation room. You have some level of trust. There has to be some way they can find a way to detect this because omerosa was harmless. You could have somebody who knows what theyre doing. Julie if omerosa, a former apprentice cast member can actually sneak a cell phone into the situation room, thats alarming. Now, let me just get back to omerosa accusing the president of being a racist. One has to wonder if she really thought the president if she thought donald trump, her hero, her mentor, was really a racist, why did she campaign for him and take a job and work for a racist . Not only campaign for him. She was behind closed door saying how great candidate trump was and what a wonderful man he was. She revered the president. Its one thing you want to work for someone, she was exuberant in her support for the president. Either she is a total hypocrite or it was delusional. I dont know what it was. You couldnt have asked anyone to be more of a cheerleader publicly and privately for President Trump than omerosa. Julie i want to get to the question of whether President Trump will sit down with Robert Mueller. He would take questions about collusion with russia in the 2016 elections. Here is the sticking point. Not obstruction of justice after he took office. Giuliani says it would be malpractice if he didnt put that out there. Obstruction questions could become a trap for perjury accusations . Should the president sit down with mueller at all . Whats your belief . P. R. Wise it might help. As a legal matter i dont know what the purpose is unless there is a question that only the president can answer. But i would think that bob mueller must have all the information he could possibly need. I dont know whether there is any conflict in fact or testimony going to be. So i dont know what the president would add to it. Again, i think if mueller has specific areas that he feels only the president can answer on factual issues they should put that up and let giuliani and the others know what the focus is going to be. As far as obstruction, if the president is carrying out his lawful duties to be going into intent of the president. What i know of the thing with jim comey and flynn. I think it is unconstitutional going into a president s motives if he was carrying out a lawful act. Julie there are famous cases like Martha Stewart and barry bonds. Obstruction can be used against somebody like the president even though he may or may not be not telling the truth. The next thing comes timing because Rudy Giuliani is saying he wont do an interview after september 1 not to distract from the midterms. If no interview happens before that date september 1, does mueller subpoena the president and what would be the legal fallout if that were the happen . The president , a sitting president cannot be indicted. What would muellers move be next . If he goes to subpoena it would drag it on for months and months. You get the impression just from his almost sounded rational at some points, that he went up there knowing that was his last takeoff and the landing was optional. Bill can you learn all of this on a desktop simulator and Computer Software . It would be very improbable to do it that way. You could learn where the functioning the controls are, there are two controls to the right of the throttle that have to be put in a certain spot. There is another spot on the aircraft which i wont get too far into but where you actually start the engines. He even knew that he probably wouldnt be able to turn where he was so he tugged it. These two leaders have met twice before in recent months but this will be the third summit held in pyongyang between north and south korea. The last one was about 11 years ago. Hooray for an agency who did something right and whose statements show they were not willing to be fair and they compromised the integrity or bring into question the integrity of the f. B. I. So hooray they didnt wait any longer. They waited a long time. Julie this is a 22year veteran who displayed clear bias against trump in the Text Messages. What took so long . The process of getting rid of anyone in federal government other than political appointees is long and laborious. They are usually covered by one or even two different protections, the Civil Service act and unions. The process goes on forever. You might have noticed at the i. R. S. People fired in the lois lerner era were typically rehired. The process is long, the bars from rehiring arent affirmative and this is one of the problems in government. The congress acted specifically for the Veterans Administration to make it easier to fire people because our veterans were dying for lack of quality care. So it is a problem. It continues to be. This is one of those cases in which the goods were on this individual in no uncertain way and he had really brought shame on the f. B. I. Act but you do need somebody with subpoena authority, somebody that demands documents. Many of them outside the department of justice and from former employees to get to the bottom of it. You cant have an agency investigate itself effectively but particularly when its the agency that has all the power. You might remember that one of the things that strzok did was he held on to his ability to personally declassify information which meant he could leak information by declassifying it and making it public. He held onto a lot of those capabilities that helped him essentially create a legal way to spy on a candidacy of President Trump. Julie does it further boost Lindsey Grahams claim that he believes a Second Special counsel should be appointed . You need prosecutorial power in order to continue to hold these people accountable and there needs to be accountability here and sadly within the f. B. I. Itself. The attorney general oversees all of this. He hasnt recused himself from corruption and misconduct within his agency, the department of justice. So it is completely within the ability of the attorney general to name an individual, perhaps a u. S. Attorney or some even a retired u. S. Attorney to investigate the agency to have full access, to have subpoena authority and get to the bottom and the top of all of this past misconduct. Was moved about a year ago, i believe, the department of Human Resources but still a paid employee of the f. B. I. , testified in front of the hill about a month ago. You are a ceo and you want to do business with the United States and cut your losses with the iranians you will probably cut your losses. The pressure will mount on the europeans. I believe theyll come to this administration. It will take some time because they have some pride about all of this, but im absolutely convinced that the iranians, as the squeeze is put on them, they will reach out to the Trump Administration to cut a new nuclear deal. I want to draw your attention to a key section of the statement from strzoks lawyer. It reads, the decision to fire special agent strzok is not only a departure from typical bureau practice, but contradicts director wras testimony to congress and his assurances that the f. B. I. Intended to follow its regular process in this and all personnel matters. The decision should be deeply troubling to all americans. Thats a key section. It is absolutely accurate. Publicly and privately the f. B. I. Director has said the bureau got into trouble during the 2016 campaign because director comey failed to follow proper procedures and practices and he said on his watch they would do so under all circumstances. I think its also important to note that strzok was the sender of the email and in the drivers seat but also in the drivers seat of the f. B. I. s opening of the russia collusion case. And also kind of in the drivers seat with strzok was Deputy Director Andrew Mccabe. Andrew mccabe was fired earlier this year for lying to federal agents about his contact with the media. At this point we have two key figures, very senior figures within the f. B. I. Who have been both fired for cause in the case of Deputy Director Andrew Mccabe it was for lying to federal investigators. Thats a crime that can be prosecuted. And in the case of f. B. I. Peter strzok, it was at the decision of the Deputy Director who overruled the finding of the bureaus internal Disciplinary Office, julie. Julie thank you so much. There are smaller airports that have large jets, private jets. Where there is very little security to get on the tarmac. In this case there was more security. According to that airport and Port Authority there they actually started security screening more so than other airports do where they require things like biometrics, special badgeing for Airline Employees and employees at the airport itself. I spoke with Airline Pilots this morning who told me in a lot of places these airports do not require their employees, the baggage handlers, the maintainers to actually go through the physical tsa security. They get badged outside of it. They are in a circle of trust where theyve been vetted and screened by the airlines to be able to be in and around the aircraft. It is very easy to take off an airplane. You have a microsoft simulator to learn how to fly an airplane. Learn how to start it up and fly it. The hard part is landing it. This guy knew he would have trouble doing that. Bill based on your training you can learn to do all this on a simulator. You really can. You can learn to do all the procedures that you need to do. However, there is a lot of things, the physicality of what it feels like to fly an airplane and the different conditions of flight you have to experience. He said the starting isnt easy but you can practice it in a simulator. In the audio recording you could hear bells and whistles.
