You mentioned at the top one of north koreas highest ranking officials Kim Yong Chol and who along with kim jonguns sister went to the olympics this year is seen walking through the airport in beijing. He is headed for new york and he will be having talks with u. S. Officials and chinese officials in new york. He was also the former spy chief of north korea. This fellow is at the very top of the pecking order there in north korea. He is also the guy in charge of north south relations. The president tweeting optimism this morning saying we have put together a great team for our talks in north korea. Meetings are currently taking place concerning summit and more. Kim yong chol the vice chairman of north korea. Solid response to my letter. Thank you. He would be the highest north korean official to come to the United States in 18 years. The last time a highranking north korean official came here was in 2000. One of the leaders of the kim jong il Party Meeting with president clinton and precipitated a visit of Madeleine Albright to pyongyang. A couple u. S. The north and south korea meet on saturday. A team that went into north korea saturday. A north korean official arrives in the u. S. Very soon. How do you know kim is serious about being nuke free . A couple things. First of all, i think everyone now, china, north korea and even south korea know this president is not going to be played after a lot of the shenanigans going on the last couple of weeks. What has happened thats pivotal. Yesterday our u. S. Delegation met with the north korean delegation for the first time and our people right now certainly have fed back to the president s advisors about that meeting. Here is what i think our delegation wanted to see. Is north korea, when it comes to denuclearization, is that an aspirational thing they want to do and partially denuclearize or do they really have a plan . One, is there full accounting of all your Nuclear Weapons and Ballistic Missiles. Can we see that . Two, are you willing to open up that entire disarming and dismantling process so we have full verification of the entire process . Number three, are you going to drag it out way beyond the president s term of office so that its more of a promise than it is a delivery of denuclearization . Bill thats a lot. Do you think chairman kim would agree to that before you sit down on june 12th . Thats asking an awful lot. He is likely not going to agree to all of that. What our delegation will be looking at another meeting coming up today, probably meeting as we speak, our position, we know what it is, complete and verifiable denuclearization. Their position probably somewhat less than that. Can that be resolved through negotiation . If it cant, i think their recommendation to the president would be delay the summit. If they think it can be resolved through some negotiation and get to some kind of common objective, then i think the summit will be on. Bill interesting. I felt the one thing that emerged from saturdays meeting, kim is looking for security. He wants to know that he will not be taken out. Was that your read too . His number one concern is not prosperity or economics. Certainly thats important to him. Im not suggesting its not. But clearly this has always been about security. Why Nuclear Weapons . Why Ballistic Missiles and pointing them at the United States . All because he wants his regime to be secure and stay in power. He is a young man and he is looking out many, many years down the road that he wants this regime to stay in power. And clearly that has to be on the table and we will have to provide him some kind of guarantor for that as part of our negotiations and our concessions. Bill look at the pictures on the screen. One incident considered accidental might be the eighth homicide. Preparing for this years Holiday Weekend last thursday the Chicago Police along with federal agencies conducted raids in which they say they made 100 arrests and seized 30 illegal guns. As a Police Executive it is frustrating for me and the cops out on the street when we arrest these individuals for having illegal firearms and then we see them back out the next week doing guess what, carrying another illegal firearm. I think it is close because my opponent did serve as governor for two terms and he has run statewide three times. This would be his fourth. Statewide race. People are familiar with his name. Sandra interesting. The president is heading down there tonight. You have embraced his policies. I think that you have voted in line with the president 90 of the time. There is some question about perhaps the over estimation of how conservative your state is. Where do you think things stand now compared to where voters were in 2016 . I think what you do is go back and look at where voters were the last time my opponent ran statewide and now you have our congressional delegation is primarily republican. Our governor is republican. You have super majorities in the state house and the state senate and by the way, most of those state reps and state senators have already endorsed my candidacy and the state has changed quite a bit. We are a red state and when that blue wave comes to tennessee this year, if there is a blue wave, then it is going to run into what i call the great red wall. It is the people of this state who are determined that we are not only going to win my senate seat. We will win the governors race and keep the super majorities in the state house and the state senate. Sandra i know a lot of this will come down to how women vote in your state, congresswoman. This is something you are extremely in tune with and in fact at one point i think you asked to be addressed as congressman blackburn, right . You wanted to undo the p. C. Nature of the country. Your ability to turn over women votes, and 48 of female voters approve of trump. How do you get women to come out and vote for you. Women are focused primarily on a couple of things. Number one is the Economic Security issue. And they know that their lives are Getting Better every single day under the policies of donald trump. Tax cuts are working. More jobs are out there. They are seeing so many of these communities are seeing broadband, high Speed Internet come into their communities for the first time. And i have led that initiative on closing the Digital Divide for the last five years in congress. The second thing is security in their communities. They know that President Trump is committed to building a wall, securing that southern border. Ending sanctuary city policies and getting gangs out of our communities and off our streets. That is things that they support. Sandra in fact it is something you embrace along with the president. The president tweeted this. Repeal the gop tax cuts, no chance. Its too good to be true for republicans. Remember the Nancy Pelosi Dems are also weak an crime, the border and want to be gentle and kind to ms13 gang members. Not good. This is something you have campaigned hard on and you align up there with donald trump. Yes, i do. People want their communities, children and families to be safe. They want to know that when they go to college, when they go to public events, they are going to be safe. They want to know that gangs are not going to threaten their streets and their communities. And when it comes to the tax cuts, i have to tell you, sandra, when you look at the way that tax cuts are working in tennessee, jobs, growing jobs, wages increasing, unemployment is down, these are the policies people want to see more of. And i cant believe you would have somebody file a bill to try to repeal the tax cuts. These are helping to raise wages, you are seeing rising wages, you are seeing job growth, people are seeing companies expand. I was in here in tennessee in a manufacturing plant recently and they were clearing out a space, bringing in new equipment and adding a full third shift. That is the type of result people are wanting to see and it is happening. Sandra well see how it translates in the state. Lava throwing through neighborhoods. Emergency officials urging people to heed evacuation orders. Jeff paul live on the big island to tell us about the progress of the slowmoving lava, how is it going . The kilauea volcano shows no signs of slowing down on the big island. Lava floors are growing deeper, wider and speeding up at times without any notice for the folks who live in some of these hardhit neighborhoods. Look at this new aerials that we get in now you can see lava pools are starting to form. Geologists estimate the fountains of lava are reaching heights of 200 feet and we learn 10 additional homes were destroyed. Civil defense officials are going doortodoor to warn those who stayed behind that this situation is only getting worse. I actually saw an ocean of lava. Instead of rivers and lakes, this was an ocean with waves in it and wave after wave came in. There are eight fissures actively erupting. The mayor giving a blunt warning for those who havent left to get out now. Early this morning at 2 00 a. M. It seems like if you were really outraged about kids in cages because trump and all of a sudden it wasnt trump, it was obama, let me delete that and move on with my life. He may be right on this one in the sense that you cannot direct an informant at a campaign to spy on the campaign. Informants are its fair game to use an informant in a fully predicated legal investigation. It is normal, its expected. But thats directed towards an individual under the attorney general guidelines. You open investigations on individuals who the law allows you to open the investigation on because you have sufficient facts to open one. You cant direct them towards a campaign. If i had to bet i would place a slim bet it does. It looks a better bet today than last thursday or wednesday. Bill generally thats the impression when you think about the summit on saturday between the two koreas and the u. S. Team going into the dmz over the weekend. I thought senator blunt phrased it clearly and cleanly for what you need before you commit to sitting down. He said this, watch. I do think some things need to be decided before we have that meeting. There needs to be a strong understanding of what both sides what all three sides frankly mean by denuclearization. We need the results and they need to be very visible before the United States creates any benefits. Bill his message is get it on paper before you sit across the table from each other. North, south and u. S. Go. Sandra look, the International Meetings have groups of people from each side who resolve many of the questions in advance, resolve the agenda, find the areas of disagreement, sort of scout out what each side considers to be their preliminary negotiating position to allow the principals to see where there is disagreement. Knowing where each side is coming from if they cant find mutual agreement. There hasnt been a lot of that here. Were starting to get some of it but taking place very close to the meeting itself on the 12th. There are three big phrases about which there needs to be clarity on both sides. From our side we keep talking about complete verifiable and irreversible denuclearization. And the North Koreans are not necessarily with us on those and this weekend the south korean president moon when asked are you in favor of these u. S. Requirements sort of dodged and so its unclear whether he is with us or it was his public comment. We have to have some understanding of whether they agree with complete verifiable and irreverseable. Bill i dont know how you prove that going in. The guy can change his mind on a whim. If he is looking for security and were looking for him to give up his nukes. Why would he do this now after working so many years to get there . Well, first of all remember we are at the end of a 20 some odd year, nearly 25year series of sanctions on north korea that were ratcheted up. They were stalled by clinton, ratcheted up by bush and obama and really ratcheted up by trump and theyre hurting the economy. You have the chinese playing a role. Then you have a center left president of south korea who wants to get something done and it may be that kim has one of two mind sets. Either i have to come to an agreement because the chinese are pressuring me and the sanctions are hurting me and i think i can cut a deal or he is playing like his father and grandfather saying im in a tough place but find a way to blow this all up and retain my Nuclear Weapons and my independence and make them give me something in the meantime. Their phrase that theyre emphatic about is phased measures. That is to say, we agree to do something and you agree to do something. We agree well take this step toward denuclearization and you will relieve us of the sanctions not we have to do something and then youll do something but we do it at the at the same time. Bill would we agree to that . Its almost a tit for a tat. It is phased and synchronous. We do it at the at the same time. We shouldnt do it because thats what theyve done. Remember, four times theyve agreed to give up their Nuclear Program and four times theyve broken their word and by breaking it in private and we find out about it later. What is the phrase denuclearization . From north korea it could mean a bunch of things. Well give up our Nuclear Weapons but you give up your Nuclear Weapons in the region or you withdraw the american presence from south korea and so forth.
