Needed. Mark meadows saying he is confident they will backup their findings. Its almost like they have a set of talking points to go to but i would suggest both of them need to look at the fine details of this. When they do, they will come to the same conclusion that jim and i have come to. Its time for spousal counsel. Sandra peter doocy, where the president is staying this holiday weekend, and looks a lot nicer here. What about this joan huber appointment that we are learning about . Sandra, he will be conducting this investigation from way inside the beltway, washington, d. C. , he was first appointed by president obama and renominated confirmed by President Trump. Now he is tasked with seeing whether or not the fbi looked the other way while the clinton business did business with the russians, for political purpose purposes. Have a prosecutor, i respect the attorney generals decision. Trey gowdy and the dues history committee, Bob Goodlatte, still want a special counsel but they say we applaud the attorney general for demonstrating his commitment to this investigation by collecting an individual outside of washington, d. C. , to lead the review. Others in the g. O. P. Are a lot less patient, the longer there is not a Second Special counsel. How can, mr. Rosenstein is involved in all this abuse that we think took place. You have to have a Second Special counsel. I hope Jeff Sessions figure that out. Now, the big public critics of the attorney general sessions are in the house of representatives and not in the white house. At least this week, sandra. Sandra peter, how is he about to change his strategy for fighting isis . The president thinks isis has been run out of the caliphate that they tried to carve out for themselves in syria and iraq. We spent, and i was against it from the beginning, to try and say well, maybe not, i was against it from the beginning. We are knocking the hell out of isis. We will be out of syria very soon. He thinks hes got a new card for negotiations at the table with north korea and south korea. He says he may hold up a trade deal with the South Koreans until they can come to a nuclear resolution in the next couple of months. It sandra. Sandra peter doocy. The palm trees look beautiful in the background. Slight breeze. A lot better off than new york city. Bill our chief correspondent and fox news contributor, byron york. Byron, good day to you. You feel that the white house has been feeling pressure lately. Why and from whom . Just the other day, he announced he was going to push the fbi to be more responsive to house requests for documents and as the house investigates the trumprussia investigation, now we have this answer to republicans who have been demanding a special counsel about that. Hes not going to appoint a special counsel but he has appointed john huber, who you were just discussing, to lead an investigation, a kind of special counsel. It seems clear the attorney general is trying to offer something to these critics on the hill. But theyve been putting increasing pressure on the justice department. Bill i think they got half of what they were looking for. On the syrian matter, how does this message go over with james mattis and, well, i guess Rex Tillerson is out now, both men said dont put a timeline on it. President trump has said it himself, dont let the enemy know when youre going to leave. What you make of that comment . With the president s speech, it began with by the way, we are going to be coming out of syria soon. That part of his speech, which went all over the place, by the way, came on the same day that the pentagon had been saying the United States troops need to stay longer in syria. Because of the volatility of the situation. I think anybody can probably best read the president s comments on that by saying he was expressing his preference. Not any sort of order thats going to be coming in the next couple of days. Bill conversely, he has talked about not fighting wars all over the world. That was a big part of him as a candidate, byron. Him getting out of syria is entirely consistent with what he said during the campaign. The idea is the United States, he does not want to see the United States in far flung military engagements all around the world. On the other hand, he has been touting how the United States has destroyed isis. That did not happen by staying home. It happened by staying in syria and iraq and doing work. Bill and being very aggressive in moving up the timeline as well. What did you think of the speech in cleveland, ohio . Whenever you hear the president is traveling into his speech is going to be about this or that subject, it aint going to happen. It doesnt work out that way. Its always about lots and lots of stuff. The president s speech was supposedly about infrastructure. He did talk about his infrastructure plan but he talked about a lot of other things. South korea, syria, roseanne, very much like the speeches he gave on the campaign trail. He would speak for an hour and go all over the place. Mixing policy, personal preferences, his personal history, all sorts of his opinions about this or that. All sorts of things. This is one, like the speeches he gave in 2016, which did get him elected. And two, it will be like the speeches we will see as he travels with midterms coming up. Bill he never was to be boring for that crowd. Yesterday was an example. Thank you, byron. Have a great weekend. Sandra a man suspected of shooting an offduty Police Officer in kentucky has been killed by police in tennessee. Authorities say the suspect was impersonating a Police Officer he killed 38yearold officer Philip Meacham. The shooter getting away on foot before taking off in a pickup truck. Mike tobin is following this story from chicago. What do we know about this case . Sadly, we know that a wife is a widow and two kids are without their father today. By all appearances, 38yearold Philip Meacham was off duty at the time but he was tracked down and killed in cold blood. The gunman, according to police reports, impersonated a Police Officer, and shot him after 5 00 p. M. The fake copy and the killer, he allegedly ran from the scene, and took off driving. He made it 30 miles across state lines to tennessee, where ultimately, he was tracked down. He was shot and killed a short time after that. We do not know the motive for the original murder. If meacham was targeted and killed, the police chief said only that in a small town like hopkinsville, kentucky, its likely the two of them knew each other. Sandra how did authorities track down decoursey . A tip, he was spotted at a hotel coming out of tennessee. Decoursey asked someone for a cigarette and that individual called into police and said they had seen someone matching that description. A u. S. Marshal encountered decoursey. The encounter was only described as brief, shortly after that, decoursey was shot and killed. Bill mike tobin. Thank you. It is passover at sundown here in the u. S. Bill jim jordan, the republican from ohio. A request that Jeff Sessions has rejected. Darrell isa with the House Judiciary Committee, back home in san diego. A lot of news in your state. I will get to that. The Jeff Sessions make the right call for now . You said it exactly right, for now. When i ran the oversight committee, just because something seems like a good idea at the time, it doesnt mean it is the first thing you should d do. I know michael horowitz. Hes a great Inspector General. Ive worked with him for years. Hes going to go through a process, there is no question in my mind that hes going to find things that are going to be beyond the scope of what he can do. People who have left the department of justice, people who wont cooperate. He doesnt have subpoena authority. And he does not have criminal prosecution. I dont think we will get exactly where jim jordan wants to be but lets let the process of investigating through the course, go through it. What jim and i are not used to is the attorney general is, in fact, in charge of this. He did not recuse himself from making sure theres an investigation of the wrongful use of fisa. My hope is that he will get there. Lets let the evidence play out. Michael horowitz is well trusted as Inspector General. Bill Bob Goodlatte is working with trey gowdy on this. He talks about extreme bias in the fbi. Even if you do an internal investigation, you cannot interview former employees, which could be a sticky point. Session said this, i am confident mr. Hubers review will be consistent with the law and the facts. Do you have any reason to doubt what Jeff Sessions is saying there . I dont have any reason to doubt that the investigation will be honestly conducted and i also have no doubt it will breach of stonewalling, obama people that have a lot to hide, obviously. Thats where the committee and jurisdiction, Bob Goodlatte, trey gowdy, will have to use their subpoena power. Ultimately, we are going to get to an outside investigation of the department of justice. In particular, the fbi. There have been too many things that shouldnt have happened, that happened at the behest of the Obama Administration. A behest of the incoming clinton administration. Or at least, they thought it was. They need to be investigated but we need to find a way to prevent it in the future. People always go back to watergate. They dont go back to the fact that this happened again and again throughout the early fbi days under j. Edgar hoover. Where he played politics in order to essentially have the fbi beloved by a president. We cant have that. Trey gowdy has the background to know exactly where we are going to end up. Bill i sense a long, legal road in that answer. A long time. Bill, it is. But for everyone who wants to do it immediately, the democrats are going to fight every move. One of the things that is going on i am not defending them by any means one of the things going on now is the process, including an ig that is respected by both parties. It will help us get to where the democrats, who are still saying we are on a witch hunt, wont have anything but false facts or fake news to use. Bill youre back home in san diego. You know Orange County, the Trump Administration in the sanctuary city laws passed last year. Where do you think this goes, ultimately . It goes to lawabiding citizens who have had enough. Orange county and a number of other counties, particularly sheriffs and police chiefs, they want to be out from underneath a very bad idea. Which is to release criminals and not let i. C. E. And the other authorities know it. Thats where its going to go to the courts but also to the people, do you want to live in a sanctuary city, knowing violent criminals are being released when, in fact, they could be deported . Bill what is your thinking about why sacramento is kicking out laws like this . Is it a thumb in the eye to washington . Is it more directed to the trump team . What do you think about that . We are a state that was so lopsided, believe it or not, jerry brown has to be the conservative vetoing extreme activities coming out of the legislature. We are a state where they are playing to the far left. Bernie sanders here would be considered mainstream. Thats our problem in california. We are out of touch with reality. And we are getting away with it, for now. Our crime is rising. Drug problems are rising. Homelessness is rising. With the highest taxes in the nation, we are also in the budget a projected budget crisis. Bill youve got issues. Thank you for your time today. Good to see you again. Inward is turning into a backandforth of the poisoning of a former russian spy and his daughter on british soil. Benjamin hall following the story from london this morning. What is behind the timing of these missile tests . Good morning, sandra. It is put in context, the use of agents in the u. K. , the expulsion of diplomats. Many people are saying it is clear that there is provocation from the russians. It is a sign they will not be backing down. They had this test with a liquid fuel icbm, called satan in english. It could reach anywhere in the world. They did that while screens behind him showed florida being targeted. Also, just days after 4. 7 billion of tests a real flash point. We have to see how it is developed. Sandra something weve been watching this week, what is the latest on the expulsion of those diplomats . Noor salmans futures hands are in the of the jury. Any indication the verdict comes today, matt . What are you thinking and hearing today . It is likely a verdict could come today. A spokesperson for the shooters widow says they think one could come today as the jury might want to get home in time for the holiday weekend. Also a spokesperson for the widow saying since the judge handed the trial over to the jury, the jury has come back to the judge was several questions, which might indicate they are putting their Heads Together as they deliberate. Noor salman spokesperson says the widow has been locked in a federal sell for 23 hours a day, away from her son. She is depressed, she has aged in her appearance and is afraid because the spokesperson for the widow also argues she did not willfully commit any type of planning in the polls nightclub shooting. The spokesperson also says the widow is being held at the courthouse while her family is at a nearby hotel awaiting the verdict. Bill the jury has come back to ask the judge of your questions, as you know. Does that give us clues, what were they looking for . It did give us some clues. Some of the more notable points. The judge clarified in order for this widow to be convicted of providing Material Support to a terrorist organization, the shooters widow had to willfully aid and abet her husband and associate herself with the criminal act. With the expectation that her actions would make the shooting succeed. The judge also denied the jurys request for a full indepth evidence because he said it might reveal evidence that was being inadmissible for court. Noor salman did confess to witnessing her husband purchase a gun, watch isis recruitment videos, and make statements about planning an attack. She says she wished she had told someone but was too afraid. During the trial, or defense argued all of that confession was coerced. Bill watching that from florida today. We will see if it happens. I dont think the president should be happy with where we were, as secretary, i was not happy with where we were. We have to figure out how to move this bureaucracy faster and be more responsive. Sandra the fired secretary speaking out, David Shulkin agreeing that the va needs work but shulkin calls himself a victim of politics. He thinks his dismissal may have something to do with a push to privatize the va, a move he does not support. Joining me now, cohost of the five, Juan Williams and jason chavis, former utah congressman. Jason, why do you think he got the boot . Its not something President Trump will tolerate in any way, shape, or form. If you was resistance resistang privatization, they were obviously in conflict. I think the president has a mandate, based on what you did during the election, to actually push for this. Just asking to make sure that our veterans are taking care of, being able to get to a doctor that they need is one of those things because the Current System is not working. Sandra want, he seemed to hint in that speech he gave in ohio as to why he decided to let shulkin go. He said i wasnt happy with the speed with which our veterans were taken care of. I dont understand that statement. If you look veterans, they are generally pleased with the va system. Weve had general complaints about the waiting time and the like. As shulkin said, there is more to be done. I think the argument comes down to the privatization argument. Here is where shulkin made the case both in an oped in the new york times, on the basis of merit, he doesnt think privatization is a good idea. If you look to the va, you are looking at people who have done tremendous research on brain injuries, traumatic injuries, they have a chance to offer something that the private sector does not. He said basically putting people in the private sector, the polls dont show the same level there is for the va. He says it wont be better for the quality of our veterans. Sandra i want to get your response, jason. Listen. It would be a mistake to conclude that we do not need the va and that we need to dismantle the va. We have to improve the va while at the same time, working with the private sector in an integrated way to meet the needs of our veterans. Sandra go ahead. It is not onesizefitsall. Not everybody suffers from a brain injury. Its not one specific injury. I had a case in utah, a very rural state, the person was in rural utah and they did not need to go all the way to salt lake city, a nearly two hour drive, when there was a hospital right around the corner. If you dont tailor it to the individual needs and give flexibility to that veteran and their family, so they can make the choice themselves to get the care that they need, that is the least that this country can do. Why resist and insist that you have to go to this hospital when there is a waiting line and they need care right now and it is more convenient and they get to make the choice if whether or not there will be better care, let them make the choice. Sandra our Hardworking Team in the control room was able to dig up the sound of the president speaking to this yesterday. It is interesting because it did not pop up as referencing shulkin. He didnt say his name but i want to play it for you. We can have real choice paired thats why i have made some changes. I wasnt happy with the speed with which our veterans were taken care of. I wasnt happy with it. Sandra he is making its point very clear. Perhaps that is something we can say both shulkin in the white house have in common. They are not happy with the state of the va today. Why . Juan . Obviously, are veterans are the best. They defend us in our country. Shulkin made this point, the politicalization to benefit people who want to privatize it, shulkin makes a very dark case that the interests are private interests who see they can get more money from veterans and from the government by privatizing the system. Briefly, in response to what congressman chaffetz was saying, there are already vouchers for veterans to go to a private hospital. I understand you want to cater it to specific people. I dont think thats a fair charge. Sandra jason, we have shulkin on this program before. Hes very passionate about what he was doing at the va. On his exit, he wrote this scathing oped in the new york times, giving a parting shot at washington and politics. Making the point that hes a victim of politics. Is he . Look, when you go out and access wimbledon tickets and your chief of staff is accused by the Inspector General of doctoring documents, we start to lose the moral authority that says this is just politics. This comes on the heels of a very scathing Inspector General report. Its tough to service this level of government, it should be. No doubt it is tough. It should be. Sandra he does make the point overall, though, that he was seen as an obstacle to privatization. At the end of the day, juan, thats the reason he sees he got the pink slip. I think jason and i can testify that they dont see themselves clearly. I think jason is right. That ethical lapse is a big deal and made him more vulnerable to getting a pink slip. He says its not fair the Ethics Office had approved everything before hand. Thats not what exists in the publics mind. I think it opened the door for him to leave. Sandra we will leave it there, gentlemen, thank you so much. Good to see you both. Have a great weekend. Bill i spoke with Timothy Cardinal dolan about the importance of this time of year, this reflection in our lives. Only four days old, nell, a federal judge is allowing terry strada and other families to look into the Saudi Arabian ties linked with the hijackers. Good morning to you, terry strada. You had a few tears when the decision came out. What do you think this means . It was very emotional to hear that the judge ruled in our favor. Its been a long, painful road to get this far. What it means now is we are going to go forward. Bill you can get a setback and then, i cant imagine what this its been very difficult. Like a leap frog situation. It now gives the courts the rights to bring any nation into a courtroom. If we have evidence supporting they were involved. Bill justice against sponsors of what do you think the connection is with the saudi government . I think agents of the saudi government were definitely involved in housing the hijackers in california. The two gentlemen weve been ordered a discovery on are called handlers. It was their job to meet them, greet them, give them their housing, teach them with their flying lessons. Everything they needed. Once they landed on american soil, these two gentlemen were involved in it. Bill what was their connection to the kingdom of saudi arabia quest direct agents of the kingdom of arabia, on their payroll. Bill do think they paid to late down the trail, to get housing and take flying lessons in california . Yes, i believe there are agents of their government that were involved in sending these men or financing these men to be here. Yes, to meet the hijackers. Out in california, we dont know how many there are in this country that were meeting the hijackers. Bill they stopped short of the conclusion that would support your thinking. What did you think of that . Now we can put to rest that the saudis claimed they were exonerated. There is no truth to that. They were never exonerated. Theres no evidence that supports them being exonerated. Thats what the judge looked at in january and said if you are involved, bring your proof. These people have enough evidence that there is enough to move forward. Bill backed by saudi arabia. Heres part of your statement. Instead of dealing with these truths honestly and confronting the compelling evidence that 9 11 families have amassed, your kingdom has paid an army of lawyers and lobbyists to avoid the courtroom altogether. Do you think youve finally pushed through what you consider this wall of defense . Absolutely. When congress did by our side and pushed that act, it was a clear signal that now we can go forward and the courts are agree with what congress said. Yeah, more with the discovery. I do think weve broken through with the law. They fought so hard and nastily. When they brought veterans to lobby against this act unknowingly . Theyve done so many underhanded things. Theyve been so difficult. Its been so painful to have to fight saudi arabia. Bill if you are right and you prove your case, how does it change the way we look at this . I hope we look at things a lot closer and create policies that will protect us better from the element that was here at 9 11. And may still be in this country. Because weve never fully acknowledged these cells that existed, that helped these hijackers. Im hoping policy changes. I hope the truth will bring us to a better change. Bill you could change the relationship entirely. You could prove it. It should change it, to some degree. Going forward, freeing the truth is good for both sides. We need the truth to come out through this lawsuit. Families need to have accountability. Going forward, we should be able to have a better relationship. You know . Bill you talk as if you had better optimism and hope today than 24 hours ago. Is that a good read . Definitely, it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Trying to get our day in court, its with the families have always been fighting for. I feel better. Bill to feel joy for your husband, tom . Absolutely. This has all been for him and for all the other families. Bill good luck in your pursuit on this very long road. Sandra. Sandra coffee with a side of concern . Sandra at least we can end the week with a little humor. Bill mattis and bolton, coming up next. Speak to a cup of coffee in california may soon come with a health warning. A judge ruling that coffee sellers in the state must post cancer warnings, due to a chemical produced during the roasting process. Live in los angeles with the story. William lafayette. Let me tell you two important things. Number one, there is no proof that coffee causes cancer. Its about language and the labeling law. Secondly, the socalled independent Research Group that made this claim is using the same address with the lawyer that brought the case, the same group that says french fries and chips cause cancer. Eating salmon intricate coffee could be hazardous to your health . Im not surprised but its like once everything is dangerous, nothing is dangerous close to mark so many people drink so much coffee, doesnt really even matter at this point . Its like everything is a carcinogen these days. Heres the back story, it requires warning labels on products that have dangerous ingredients, so far, businesses have paid out 285 million to settle these cases. 67 of the money went to the lawyers. It increases the risk of cancer in rats in doses come up to 10,000 times higher in levels consumed by people. Cancer warning labels on coffee would be misleading, says the National Coffee association. The u. S. Governments own dietary guidelines state that coffee can be healthy. The World Health Organization says coffee does not cause cancer. Supporters, sandra, say that props of re max 65 doesnt tell you what to do. It simply gives you more information. Unless this is overturned, you too could pay more for your coffee because of california. Sandra mornings are hard enough. Dont take coffee away. Come on. Thank you. Bill id stay in bed. Purring it. Fox news alert, down to orlando. A verdict we are now hearing is expected in minutes in the Orlando Pulse Club trial. We will have that for you when it happens. Jeff sessions rejecting a request for a Second Special counsel. Bob goodlatte says there is extreme bias in the fbi. He is live, set to make news at the topic the the hour. Come on back. Try align, the 1 doctor recommended probiotic. With a unique strain that realigns your system. Realign yourself, with align. When this guy got a flat tire in the middle of the night. Hold on dad. Liberty did what . Yeah, Liberty Mutual 24hour roadside assistance helped him to fix his flat so he could get home safely. My dad says our insurance doesnt have that. Dont worry i know what a lug wrench is, dad. Is this a lug wrench . Maybe . You can leave worry behind when liberty stands with youâ„¢. Liberty stands with youâ„¢. Liberty mutual insurance. Sandra fox news alert, attorney general Jeff Sessions holds his fire saying that at least for now, he will not appoint a Second Special counsel to investigate alleged misconduct by the doj and the fbi. Welcome to a brandnew hour of americas newsroom. I am sandra smith, good morning. Bill good friday morning to you. We are waiting for the story and orlando. Standby for that. Congressman darrell issa last hour, telling us he may eventually need to appoint one. Here is issa. The attorney general is in fact in charge of this. He didnt recuse himself from making sure there was an investigation for the wrongful use of fisa. My hope is he will get there. I think, lets let the evidence play out. Bill that is from issa. Other republicans have not been as critical as issa. Sessions might be trying to thread the needle and he may be doing so successfully, in the minds of many. Not going to the full extent of appointing a special prosecutor but a respected government lawyer, more importantly, outside of washington. Utahs u. S. Attorney john huber. He will evaluate what we have and ultimately decide whether the appointment of the special prosecutor is warranted. The white house reacted favorably. Having this prosecutor take a fresh look at everything we know and could know its a very positive development. There is very little doubt that shenanigans and conduct was being had in the way that rises to a level of continued investigation. Other republicans have had real faith in huber. This is more than looking at it. Its an experience prosecutor looking at very serious allegations. If i were people at the top levels of the fbi, i would be very concerned right now. Again, the special counsel is the ideal. I would not write this off. I wouldnt minimize it in the way some people are. There are conservatives that are really criticizing the move. We need to have the special counsel. I disagree with the attorney general. I can tell you tonight, i went through and reviewed some redacted things that were given to our committee. On seven pages, there were 12 material facts, material facts, not just names, that were omitted by the department of justice. Its time to come clean and give congress what we need. Meanwhile, democrats have long made claims that calls for a Second Special prosecutor are a mere distraction, trying to undermine the work of mueller. Bill why is he so respected . Huber was appointed during the Obama Administration and reappointed by Jeff Sessions just a year ago. He is a graduate of the university of utah, long known for his focus on crime and drug trafficking. This may be a bit of a departure for him. We will see. Bill thanks, doug. We are watching that in washington. Sandra more on all this, House Judiciary CommitteeBob Goodlatte, thank you for joining us this morning. We made it very clear for what you desire, you and your republican colleagues came together. You requested a Second Special counsel. Jeff sessions ultimately decided not to go with one. How did that sit with you . First of all, he has left the door open for a Second Special counsel. I continue to believe that is necessary. I do want to say the department and the bureau are taking this matter a lot more seriously than they were before we issued the subpoena last week. They now have 54 fbi agents dedicated to responding to our subpoena request. Now the attorney general has asked for somebody outside washington, d. C. , to look at this. This is a respected United States attorney. I think it shows the seriousness with which attorney general sessions is taking the matter. Ultimately, i do think somebody who is entirely outside of the department and the bureau is going to need to be involved. In the meantime, the fact that we have an Inspector General forthcoming, soon, plus, the new work by u. S. Attorney huber and the documents being subpoenaed and that subpoena being taken seriously, we are moving in the right direction. Im encouraged by that. A lot of work to be done. Because the American People are entitled to know what was going on in the fbi in 2016 and into 2017. Sandra i know you and your colleagues in the statement, that you put out in response to Jeff Sessions, you made it very clear that john huber is very highly respected. You referenced his reputation. Are you confident he can conduct a fair and independent investigation . I believe he can. But time will tell. Quite frankly, this is not going to be only his word. You have the Inspector General and the House Judiciary Committee and the House Oversight and Government Forum committee. We are moving forward with our investigation. I think the facts have been coming out for quite a while. I think thats going to accelerate with his appointment and in response to our subpoena. Sandra based on you feel that the fbis taking this more seriously than you did before and ag sessions is taking your concern seriously and you feel that the door has been left open by the ag, to appoint a Second Special counsel, do you believe that will eventually happen . I believe it is going to be necessary. However, i cannot speak for the attorney general under the current laws. The congress does not have the ability to appoint a special counsel. That is reserved to the executive branch. However, i will say the attorney general, in his letter to me yesterday, made it very clear that a special counsel is still a possibility. Depending upon what is uncovered by the Inspector General and by u. S. Attorney huber. Sandra are you confident that the reputation of the fbi and doj will be restored, as is the goal of this investigation . That should be the goal of the investigation but the best way to achieve that is with the sunlight that needs to be shown on the unbelievable bias that was taking place with some key people in the fbi. By the way, i think most americans believe the federal bureau of investigation, the worlds premier Law Enforcement investigation, tens of thousands of people are there every day. They keep us safe by crime. They keep us safe from crime, like the bomber last week. A few people have besmirched the reputation and we cannot allow that kind of image to go into the next president ial election in 2020. The public needs to be satisfied that the kind of interference and the bias that was shown in the last election cannot take place again. Sandra just so we know the details Going Forward, as we are all watching this so closely, chairman, will huber, the u. S. Attorney, will he ultimately be the one to decide if a Second Special counsel is warranted, based on his findings . I think that appointment would take place by the attorney general of the United States. Obviously, if he finds its necessary or if the attorney general finds it is necessary, he will take his recommendation or act on his own decision, attorney general sessions. In the meantime, mr. Huber has a lot of authority to look into this matter, to work with the Inspector General. And congress will conduct oversight to make sure this is being actively and aggressively pursued, as the attorney general has promised. Sandra i know the American PeopleWant Congress to get to the bottom of this. They want answers. I know you are trying to get them. Thank you for coming on the program this morning. Glad to do it, sandra. Take care. Bill extreme vetting, what is happening . The state department will require most immigrants and visitors to submit a lot more information to the fed. Including social media history. What is this all about . Rich, good morning to you. What do they want . Good morning, bill. This is for those applying for a visa to the United States. The state department has posted new rules that were to will require a lot more information. Officials say they are not requesting passwords as part of the spear they want five years of phone numbers, email addresses, and any International Travel and passport numbers. They would also require those applying for a visa to notify the government if they have been deported or removed from any other country and if any of their family members have been involved in terrorist activities. They have been writing these regulations for months and today begins the next step as a 60 day Comment Period neck. Anyone can go online and check out the regulations and comment on them. It will start another Comment Period. Bill this would affect millions of travelers, right . About 14 million travelers. This is only for those applying for a visa. There are still millions of those that come to the United States from dozens of countries each year. They dont need a visa to travel. As part of the visa waiver program. They can come to the United States for 90 days. They dont need a visa for business or tourism. In return, u. S. Citizens can go to a lot of these countries and we dont need to fill out a visa, either. Bill we will see her where it goes. Sandra just coming into our newsroom, we are being told jurors have reached a verdict in the trial of the widow of the orlando nightclub shooter. The decision could be announced soon. This is the latest in the trial of the widow of the orlando nightclub shooter, weve been awaiting this verdict, it killed 49 people. Back in 2016. We have reached a verdict and we will bring it to you when we get it. Bill we are on standby. A lot of people talking about this this week. More on Roseanne Barrs ratings and what President Trump said about her in ohio just yesterda yesterday. Coming up. Sandra not the only topic the president talked about, often going off script. Was his speech effective . Hes asking democrats to come to the table. There was 21 billion towards infrastructure spending. Thats a good start. Truecar is great for finding new cars. We spent, and i was against it from the beginning, to try and say it well, maybe not i was against it from the beginning. We are knocking the hell out of ices bid we will get out of syria soon. It let the other people take care of it now. Sandra President Trump talking about pulling out of syria, catching the pentagon and state department by surprise. Karl rove, former chief of staff to president george w. Bush. After being pent up for days, trump let it rip. He sort of did. Two issues per the comment of syria, which clearly caught the Defense Department by surprise. The pentagon said we have less work to do but we are not likely to come out until we have utterly destroyed isis. And dissolve civil war within syria. Neither one of those things have been completed. Step back more broadly. I counted in that speech, it was supposed to be about infrastructure. I counted, in addition to infrastructure, at least a dozen other topics. Syria, trade, north korea, the veterans administration, tax cuts, roseanne and her success. The wall and how beautiful it was. The military. If you are the president and you want to talk about infrastructure, youve got a choice. Give them a plated meal, meat and potatoes and it is about infrastructure, or give them a smorgasbord, which is what he did. And then the media gets to pick and choose what they want to talk about. It got lost in this gigantic smorgasbord of other topics he presented. Sandra and a south korean trade pack until a deal is made with north korea . Just to gain some leverage out of these negotiations or discussions. Looked, that may be smart but im not certain that you should telegraph it publicly. You heard mr. President say im never going to tell people what i do on my military moves but then he goes out and basically says to the South Koreans we know agreed upon this trade agreement. I give you my word, but i am not necessarily bound by my word. Ill be watching what you do in the north korean trade discussions. He basically said to the koreans and anyone who wants to deal with what the United States, he may go back on his word within a couple of days if he wants to hold you on account of Something Else. But are not to have done it, and my opinion. Sandra we did not hear from the president , karl. And then he pops up in this Campaign Rally in ohio. What to think the strategy was there . I dont think there was a strategy. You could tell when he was talking about infrastructure, but then you could tell when he got off the speech. It was a campaign speech. The president is stronger when hes the president. He is weaker when hes a president ial candidate. Talking about a more official appearance, more republicans and fewer democrats, it takes some of the shine off of him. He is more powerful when he says i want people in Congress Working with me on my agenda for infrastructure and let the candidates make the political arguments. There were moments when he was clearly reading off of the speech and it was focused on infrastructure. And then the next moment, he would be veering off into something not getting necessarily the response you get in a political Campaign Rally, from things that were Political Campaign and meter. In nature. Sandra do think he accomplished that . Pushing issues forward in a campaign is different than pushing issues forward as president. When you are pushing issues forward as a president , you want to be able to explain to people, do we have a better idea of what he wanted to do on infrastructure then when he gave the speech . I dont think so. You want people to say i either saw the president speak or i read about it. He explained what he wanted to do and it made sense to me and if you look back at successful policymaking, its when they go out, as this president did on tax reform, and talk about an issue broad enough, deep enough, strong enough, so people say aha i get it. Sandra karl rove, have a lovely holiday weekend. Good friday for your. Bill happy easter. Waiting on this verdict watch in orlando. I said mark, how are they . Unbelievable, over 18 million people. And it was about us. They havent figured it out. The fake news hasnt figured it out. Bill bill president trup touting the success of roseanne, which dealt with the political divide in Many American families since his election. The president called roseanne to congratulate her on the premiers big ratings. Bernie goldberg, how are you doing, bernie, on this passover easter . What do you think explains 18 million that tuned in on tuesday night . There is an entire country between manhattan and malibu. In that country, the people have, by and large, different values and the people in hollywood. I dont think the people in hollywood really understand those people. The people in Hollywood Live in a very comfortable, progressive, elite bubble. In that bubble, there arent a lot of people like the family you see on the roseanne show. As a result of that, they dont understand these people. Thats why they didnt understand how donald trump won the election. The question is, what is next . Is this show a oneoff or other producers going to hold their nose . Thats a key phrase, will they hold their nose and do more bluecollar shows like this . We all know there political and ideologically liberal. They live and die by ratings. The show got good ratings. Bill they will get into opioid addiction and gender identity as well. Lets see how they do. Roseanne barr tweets a lot. Heres one of her tweets. I would like to think my writers all liberal its been fun to talk with you. Its been unbelievable. You wrote a book about liberal bias. Go ahead and address that. Its not a conspiracy. Its not that they overtly dislike conservatives but basically, people are drawn to different kinds of businesses. Liberals, by and large, not entirely, are drawn to the sitcom business. In that business, because of that bubble i just spoke about, they just think Bashing Trump is funny. I watched the First Episode of will grace when it came back. Every ten seconds, there was a cheap attack on president bush. I think they dont do this show for america, they do it for their liberal talents that also live in this bubble. Ratings or ideology . Bill Sarah Bernhardt was on msnbc. She had a very direct message for women who voted for President Trump. Listen here. I cant understand it. I dont know where it comes from. Other than my you know, i think its a couple of issues. Either being under the thumb of your husband, or the election being so offended by Hillary Clinton. A lot of women have compromised, given in, raised their kids and not had the luxury of being able to think for themselves. Bill my mom and Three Sisters are going to love that. Women can think for themselves, bernie. They are incapable. They were cowed by the intellect of Hillary Clinton. Could not understand it. This is pretty much what Hillary Clinton said recently in india. It is sexist. It is fundamentally sexist against both men and women. It is sexist against women because it says you know, they are not too smart. They have to listen to their much smarter husbands. It is sexist against men because it it is saying they are exerting this intimidation or influence against these poor women. They dont get it. They dont understand these people. They dont understand why women because they dont understand these people and they dont understand why women could have voted for donald trump, who they saw as more of a vehicle for their interests than a liberal democrat like Hillary Clinton. Thats why they lost the election. They dont understand why women could watch this show or vote for donald trump. Bill a lot of this is looking in the Rearview Mirror and not pushing her over the top because he didnt think he could win. Some live with the sense of regret that they were unable to see Hillary Clinton win, whether shes a woman or not, but the discuss they have for this president , your last thought on that . The utter disgust they have for donald trump, it colors their understanding of what is going on. Whats going on is what i said in the beginning. As a country, between manhattan and malibu, thats the country if they dont get. Thats why they lost the election. Bill thank you, bernie. Some breaking news in your stat state. Bernie goldberg. Sandra the verdict in the orlando nightclub trial, found not guilty on both counts. Noor salman was charged with obstruction and providing Material Support to a terrorist organization. She faced life in prison if convicted. Shes the widow of the orlando nightclub shooter that killed 49 people in 2016. They have reached a verdict. Both counts, not guilty. We will bring you more on this as we get it. Bill what a case this was. In the summer of 2016, the brutal murder, a terrorist act on american shores. The pulse nightclub after midnight that night. The killer went out, back outside to his car to reload and get more weaponry to find a place inside the pulse nightclub, where he could carry out the murder of 49. Count 1 was aiding and abetting, count 2 was obstruction of justice. It could have been a penalty or fine of up to 20 years in prison. If death occurred, up to life in prison. Obstruction of justice could have been a fine or up to 20 years in prison as well. The makeup of the jury, 18, 12 jurors. Six of them women, six of them then. Not guilty on both counts. Speak to his affinity violent and muslim extremism videos. Sandra did nothing to stop him. Defense attorneys described the widow, salman, as a simple woman with a low iq who was abused by her husband into did not know of his plans because he concealed much of his life from her. Bill this trial in st. Petersburg, florida, moved out of orlando given the amount of attention it was getting. Picking the pulse nightclub with intent, and now widow has been found not guilty in the state case. Sandra on both counts. Matt finn, this just into our newsroom. What more do you know . We understand the wife of the shooter has been found not guilty on all charges. Perhaps the jury considered a lot of the evidence that was presented circumstantial. Yes, her deceased husband was googling nightclubs and watching isis recruitment videos. That does not necessarily mean she did or was or was aware of what he was doing. Also, there was evidence presented that she deleted Text Messages from the night of the shooting that she told her husband to lie about his whereabouts. However, the defense argued she consistently and always was the leading Text Messages. It was a pattern. That questions her intent of deleting Text Messages from the night of the shooting. In a written confession, the wife of the shooter confessed she witnessed her husband shooting a gun, that he was preparing for, was watching isis recruitment videos. However, her defense argued she was emotionally vulnerable and was coerced into that confession, which was partially written by an fbi agent. A forensic expert also testified salman cell phone nor her husbands cell phone paying it to the night of the shooting, which would indicate they had never been to the property. As the prosecution alleged. The prosecution argued she was guilty because Surveillance Video showed them at disney world, a shopping area and dining area of disney world, allegedly planning the attack. That they were together on camera buying ammunition and that she ended up ditching that disney world attacked because they saw deputies on scene. Salman, she had no idea what her husband was doing. That he abused her emotionally and physically and a psychologist testified she has low iq, is vulnerable and was ultimately coerced into her confession. Sandra matt finn, thank you. Both counts, not guilty, noor salman charged with objection and providing materials to a terrorist organization. She faced life in prison if found guilty. The verdict is in on the shooters widow. Bill they were scouting disney world, not guilty of buying ammunition for an ar15 . Not guilty, giving them a green light to surf online for any of these videos. Not guilty. She was born in california to a palestinian family. Both counts, the jurors returned the verdict. Sandra another alert, palestinians dead and nearly 500 injured in fighting at the gaza border after thousands of Palestinian Protesters started throwing stones at israeli troops. The scene went from bad to wors worse. Live in jerusalem. Conor powell. Yes, thousands of palestinians gathering at different locations on the border of gaza and israel. A protest along the security border, palestinian leaders have been calling for to mark both the 70th anniversary of the founding of the state of israel and also to protest the blockade, the israeli blockade around gaza. This was originally called for to be peaceful demonstrations. They quickly turned into violent protest with palestinians throwing rocks and burning tires. We understand at least ten Palestinian People were killed today and more than 500 were wounded. They said from the very beginning that any protest, even armed protesters will be met by force. They were trying to stamp this out from the very beginning. Not wanting to see anything. They also talked about storming the fence, something they say they will do on may 15th. The 70th anniversary of the founding of the state of israel. Palestinians call it the catastrophe in english. A tense situation Going Forward on the next few weeks or so. Obviously, the relationship between palestinians and israelis, in light of President Trumps decision to recognize jerusalem the capital of israel, its at an alltime low. Here in gaza, they suffer from a much different situation than they do in the west bank. After the 2014 war, it continues to be a very serious humanitarian problem. Sandra conor powell, thank you for the update. The president is encouraging people to follow federal law. Theres a reason we have laws in this country and we expect individual cities and states should follow the federal law. Bill the white house stance standing on his position quite clearly. Joining the lawsuit filed by the county, 1 of 5 Orange County supervisors, how are you and good morning to you in california. Weve been talking to many people in Orange County. Why did you join the lawsuit . Speak of come its in an understandable decision dealing with incarcerated people. The state laws mandating our sheriff officials are not cooperating with i. C. E. And they are letting people that are criminals out into the streets without letting i. C. E. Perform their proper duties. Bill the president , you know he is on your side. He tweeted this. You make the point that you are not trying to go rogue. What you are trying to show is how the state law affects those that live in Orange County. Give me an example of how that is the case, sir. To go rogue, look, we are not turning our back on california law. Our sheriff has made it clear she will follow the law but by following the law, we are putting people in jeopardy. California, many people may not know about the, they decriminalized property and drug crimes. They want all misdemeanors to be ignored. When those people are being released, we are not allowed to communicate with federal authorities as to when these people will be released, people we know they want to pick up. Its a catandmouse game, we are put in the middle. Just seeking release will be the best course of action, rather than doing our own thing. Bill people in Orange County are less safe because of these laws . Absolutely. Cereal car burglars in california, those are misdemeanors. People are tired of this stuff. We cant just turn a blind eye to Public Safety because the state would like to ignore that the federal government has exclusive jurisdiction. Its just not right. Bill darrell issa represent san diego, we talked about this. Here was his comment. They want to be out from underneath a very bad idea, which is to release criminals and not let i. C. E. And the other authorities know it. Thats where it is going to go to the courts but its also going to the people, do you want to live in a sanctuary city, doing violent criminals are being released, when in fact, they could be deported . Bill the legal battle continues. Im guessing we dont have an answer for at least a year. What do you think . I hope with a temporary restraining order that has been requested, hopefully we will get some answers in the next month or so. I do live in california, the ninth circuit. It tends to let people down often. We hope for the best but certainly im a wee brace for the worst. Bill shawn nelson, have a good weekend. A good Easter Holiday weekend. Bill the vatican is denying a report by an italian journalistic claimed pope francis told him that hell did not exist. The vatican denied that the pope said that, they said theyve also had a history with this journalist. He is a selfproclaimed atheist. There is no hell . The best news in all of lent. Best news all year. Sandra [laughs] bill hemmer caught a break sandra youve been so good. Stick with it, another couple of days. I know you made big sacrifices. We are talking about facebook again. The company is under fire after Ceo Mark Zuckerberg is disavowing a 2016 explosive International Internal memo that has been released by buzzfeed. In it, questionable practices were okay as long as the company were growing. He added it could cost lives. Consultant and former advisor to Hillary Clintons campaign, former congresswoman nan hayworth, independent womens forum of directors paid think you both for being here. Richard, what is going on here . First of all, given what we know about facebooks role in the 2016 president ial campaign, what we are coming across as a fundamental immorality, its not to say theyre doing something purposefully harmful to people come up they are indifferent. If they stand by this memo, if we correct one terrorist to another, if we are responsible for undermining our democracy, thats the price we pay for connecting people. I dont think the american publics thats okay. What that is doing is invite a level of regulation im sure facebook does not want. This kind of attitude is just going to bring it on. Sandra it is problematic that this internal memo was released when questionable practices are the news of the day with facebook. The company man continues to lose a lot of value in the face of this. Mark zuckerberg, reacting arguably more to the internal memo than the million user data compromise. This is a guy that has said a lot of provocative things. This one was what most people at facebook, including myself, disagree with strongly. He is disavowing that. Had a business to take it down when it was first published. I have to agree with richard, and no way demonstrated that facebook was immoral. They may be amoral, they quite willingly collaborated in selling data or facilitating the sale of data rental, if you will come up to the obama and clinton campaign. You know, it wasnt just the trump campaign. The bottom line is, we all have to be aware that whatever we tell facebook, whatever data we give, they own it. Thats their revenue model. We dont pay, we dont subscribe to facebook, we get it for free, we are at risk as a world and community. Sandra connecting more people, that can be be bad, cog lives, maybe someone dies in a terrorist attack according to own our tools. The memo basically says so be it. Really quite alarming. More so than all the data that was stolen from people. Again, if facebook doesnt, somehow or other, mount a campaign to distance themselves from this, i dont know how they do it, it will be a black mark that will be very hard for them to overcome. I dont disagree with the congresswomans fact of them being amoral rather rather than immoral, theres no evidence that facebook affected the 2016 campaign . A guy that read a Facebook Post by a russian bot in north carolina, he took his rifle to a pizza place in northwest washington, because he read there was some sort of buy sex slavery ring run by john podesta and Hillary Clinton, because he read that. He was ready to shoot people. All this evidence coming out about their indifference to what is effective on the public, so long as they are making money. Sandra Andrew Bosworth is the man who wrote this controversial memo that circulated both inside the company and eventually around silicon valley. Basically talking about questionable practices are justified by connecting people. He has issued a response himself. He says i dont agree with the post today and i didnt agree with it when i wrote it. Id written internally, bringing to the surface issues that i felt deserved more attention with the broader company. Having a debate around hard topics is a critical part of our process and to do it effectivel effectively, we have to consider bad ideas. If only to eliminate them. Nan .
