There has been a lot of bad news. Fox news sunday interview we did last week where she talked about james comey, the fbi director basically confirming what she said, which he didnt and a lot of independent fact check terse said that he hadnt. You have the slowest recovery since 1949. If we were talking about that instead of nonendorsement with paul ryan, a fight with the kahn family or purple heart and on and on. Trump could be a lot better shape. These are selfinflicted wounds. Bill manafort says theyre in detroit. Focus on economy. You mentioned numbers, honest and trustworthy. This is what the poll found. Look at the second column, chris. 61 to 62 no, to honest and trustworthy for clinton and trump. In vegas they call that a push, a bit of a wash. That i guess speaks to my point which is that Hillary Clinton is not bill clinton, is not barack obama. She is a deeply vulnerable candidate. People have grave doubts about her. The problem is that donald trump is creating even bigger doubts about himself, in the latest fox poll, her unfavorable numbers i think were about 15, 17, Something Like that. You have numbers there in front of you. Trumps were twice that. Taking the number that was favorable versus the number unfavorable, she is unfavorable by about 15. He is unfavorable by about double that. She is a vulnerable candidate. There is a lot of targets to hit at. He needs to start hitting them. The idea of him going out making a big economic speech in monday in detroit is smart idea. He has to change the subject and make it about issues people care about and where people can make a positive contrast versus Hillary Clinton. Bill president obama was defending his record on isis yesterday. Youve been in washington where the waters run deep and your history and experience runs deep as well. Can you recall a time where sitting president went after a nominee as such vigor as were seeing now . They have gone after nominees before, sure. Because, sitting president s, incumbent president s want their legacy to be continued and barack obama rightly thinks that donald trump is elected president he will undo a lot of obama and obama thinks that Hillary Clinton will maintain and perhaps solidify a lot of his things but, very seldom, if ever seen it this personal. Theyre working together to make sure that happens and that is the singular focus i think for both of them making sure that happens. Committed not only doing that but doing it together. You hear him there say that his opinion could very well change in the future. Look, they have both said that they want to defeat Hillary Clinton. They both said they want to keep majorities in the house and senate. Paul ryan has endorsed donald trump. Donald trump is going out and raising millions and millions of dollars for the Republican Party, not just for his own president ial campaign. The money that he is raising for the party will help elect republicans up and down the ticket, including people like speaker paul ryan. Liz up and down the ticket, that that is a huge topic of conversation but will you say to so many critics listen, especially the campaign certainly appears to be in disarray . I dont think so at all. Donald trump is got a bump after his convention. Hillary clinton got a bump after hers. As the last couple of days have shown he is committed to staying focused and targeting Hillary Clinton and showing that there is a very, very clear contrast between those two candidates. The two biggest issues in poll after poll americans say are the economy and National Security. They say they trust donald trump over Hillary Clinton on both of those issues. When you draw the contrast on those issues as weve done last couple days and continue to do, leading for the next 90 plus days until insofar as, donald trump will beat Hillary Clinton because of that contrast. Liz but we are seeing some polls, especially this week, that clinton is getting some higher favorabilities although, we both know that both of these candidates struggle with this. If there is a group of unsure voters, why arent we seeing donald trump focus on those voters more than perhaps focusing on someone like paul ryan . Donald trump is winning with independents. Kind of that swing group. He has been doing very well there. But i think one of the biggest polls that isnt talked about that is a big factor in this race, one of the reasons donald trump is the nominee is 70 of americans in this election want change. Nobody represents change more than donald trump. He is the ultimate outsider, in the year of the outsider. The fundamentals of this race still absolutely favor donald trump. He is the outsider. This really speaks, when people talk about the judgment, look at incredibly poor judgment how this entire thing has unfolded. If anything this shows the really poor Decision Making operations. This is bad judgment on part of this administration. Judgment on those who supported it, like Hillary Clinton. Also shows this, what just continues to be the drum beat of dishonesty by this administration. Again, regardless of what the real truth is, just circumstances and perception alone just is another drumbeat of just poor judgment we have seen coming out of this administration on a range of issues. And to give give 400 million to the leading state sponsor of terrorism is beyond the pale. It is sickening to me. For a nation in this case, iran, who i like to say has their National Anthem is death to america and continue to violate the lousy deal. Bill 400 million is thedown payment. There is 150 billion i mean this administration, under barack obama, and also with four years of Hillary Clintons poor judgment, they have given, they are give iran 150 billion, and put them on the pathway to develop their Nuclear Weapon. Again, this gets back, and for the American People and for your listening audience, this gets back to judgment and poor, irresponsible judgment on behalf of this entire Iranian Nuclear deal and everything surrounding it, to include the 400 million of taxpayers dollars. That is, it came from taxpayers. So, the poor judgment and what we are witnessing is just this unraveling of a lousy deal that frankly Hillary Clinton was directly part of this. Bill just one adjustment. They are saying this is money that iran maded maded in late 1. Really. Bill bill if you asked the request part of that is taxpayer money. Just in a broader sense, what i really want to talk to you about today, is the president s defense of his strategy against isis. When leaves office in january, this is legacy, we and American People and some countries have to live with it. How he is evaluate and executing and prosecuting this war today . I will just make a statement. I think the perils that we face around the world and arise, exponential rise of radical islam is one of those perils, that this administration is leaving to the next president of the United States. I mean for the president to stand there, the president almost, it seems like he has given up on it, well have the type of attacks no matter what we do. That is a terrible thing to tell the American Public to say that this enemy, that we know can be beaten, cant be beaten. He is essentially thrown his hands up and given up. And everything that i have seen out of him and his advisors, again, back to judgment, it gets to the point of saying, hey, look, were doing these things over there but what its doing the strategy we take on in iraq an syria is actually making it worse over here in the homeland. It is obviously not working. The president hand his team had to come out and Say Something about it because it is not working. Bill quickly does anything change under President Trump or president clinton. Well, i will tell you under President Trump it does on day one, on a range of issues. I wont get into all the key issues but particularly on day one, it is clearly defining to the American Public what it is that we are facing, and clearly, defining and laying out the strategy to win. When we, when we start to think about this email problem, there are some issues, that surround Hillary Clinton and frankly i think the American Public are sick of the scandals, with the clintons and their entire machine. Firefighters in california busy battling wildfires that scorched nearly 80 square miles and destroyed dozens of homes the past few weeks. Reporter elizabeth, so far this year there have already been some 4,000 wildfires in california, scorching a total of Something Like 350 square miles. When you have 66 million dead trees and millions of acres of dry brush, fires can spread too quickly in the initial going for firefighters to keep up. The result . Homes destroyed, lives upended. This particular home was destroyed two weeks ago by the sand fire here in the Angeles National forest. So the message from the Forest Service to congress is, we can fight these fires more effectively but that needs more prevention, for that we need more money. What it will do, create an Emergency Fund that the Forest Service can draw on in bad fire years. That will keep us from having to rob peter to pay paul, take restoration and management dollars to use them for firefighting. Reporter 20 years ago the Forest Service spent about the 16 of its budget on fighting fires. Now, that is up to 0, six, zero, percent. Congress wont act according to Forest Service, to allow them to declare biggest fires, natural disasters to open up extra funding. Lets bring in our experts. Doug schoen, former advisor to president bill clinton and fox news contributors, tony sayegh, a republican strategist and also a fox news contributor. Tony, i want to start with you, because you brought in a really interesting point. You said postconvention polls, that is sugar rush and it may not necessarily mean what is longterm. Theyre intense but theyre shortlived. Like a sugar rush tends to be. If you look historically since 1980, there is seven 1 2 point variance from polls after the convention and result in november. Look, Hillary Clinton is is undeniably had good results coming out of her convention. Slightly bigger bounce than donald trump. Historically she had smaller bounce than most democrats. Michael dukakis who wint down to defeat had much larger bounce. Reality even in the polls, fox polls she is still losing independents. Her favorability is still under water and 61 of people still call her dishonest. She has fundamental play flaws that have six to eight weeks to manifest. Liz you brought up favorability polls. I want to pop up Hillary Clintons favorability here. 80 , this is among selfidentified democrats, 80 favorable, 19 unfavorable. Then i want to pop up donald trump. 71 favorable, 28 unfavorable. Doug, what is your take on these numbers. These numbers really point out, with all due respect to tony the flaw in his argument. Hillary clinton is doing about 10 point better or so with democrats than trump is, with republicans. And the other problem with tonys argument is sugar rushes happen when things go like that. Given Donald Trumps comments about paul ryan, John Mccain Liz but he is outsider. Some people like those comments. They might, but if youre a mainstream republican, and youre trying to go from 70 to 80 favorable, then it is not so good but more to it than that. If i can just finish the thought. He is also made those really unfortunate comments about mr. And mrs. Khan, and look, today, he is said he saw a video about the 400 million being transported to iran. And no such video exists. Liz been talk this week and he clarified this morning. But these are problems, elizabeth. Regardless of these bumps, macro dynamics of election in this election all favor donald trump. He is decidedly outsider candidate in decidedly antiestablishment year. His support doesnt come from the mainstream, a populist energy weve been underestimating for last yearandahalf and completely defied convention we underestimated him.
