Republican nominee. We shouldnt pretend our party is unified when we know it is not. We should talk about how we wanted to unify the Republican Party. There are critical principles that we all believe in as conservatives that we want to make sure we are rallying around those principles as we move forward. Martha trump has pretty much nice things to say about paul ryan with bill oreilly. Hes a very good man, and he wants whats good for the party. I would like for him to stay and be chairman. Bill i know you will say this. He will fall in line and be at the convention and endorse you. I dont think fall into line is the right word. He loves this party and he loves this country and he wants to se. I think well be better because we are unified. Martha it seems republicans have quite a bit to discuss to get their ducks in a row this morning. Is it going to be all talk about donald trump . There will be some policy talk this morning and tomorrow with a conference likely to discuss drug addiction. Todays session of the gop conference will serve as prep time for tomorrows pair of Republican Party summits. Tomorrow morning witnesses the arrival of the presumptive nominee donald trump. The twoheaded wisconsinite creature we might call Reince Priebus. Today marks speaker ryans first chance to take the temperature of his members since trump cleared the republican field and ryan said he wasnt ready to endorse the republican nominee. A lot of prospective conservatives like george will and bill kristol wondering out loud if there are two new york liberals at the head of the president ial tickets. I commend speaker ryan for having the courage to not just fall in line, right . Martha there is a lot of talk, james, about exactly what paul ryans motivation is and what hes trying to achieve here, isnt there . Some think the speaker is essentially bar gaingt author of the art of the deal. You heard donald trump say on the Oreilly Factor that he doesnt expect speaker ryan fall in line. This morning on fox and friends trump responded to criticism that ryan voiced about trumps plan toll build a wall across our southern borderer. The wall is something the Republican Party and peoplen want. Forget the polling, i dont care about polling. I do whats right. Bill what now and what comes of the meeting of the republican minds in d. C. , chris stirewalt. How are you, sir . Trumps objective for the gop is what . This is about going through the motions. The real objective, show that hes a general election winner, not a general election loser. Here is a remarkable thing about politicians. Most of them are craven weasels who will do anything to keep their tone jobs. They can say im a principled conservative and i stand on the issues of free trade. Limited spending at home. If they think they can win and stay in office. Bill with the polls that came out of pennsylvania, ohio and florida, i would assume that helps his argument. Lets say you are Ted Strickland, senator in ohio. You want a lot of things. Not Ted Strickland rob portman, the incumbent senator. You wanted to beat Ted Strickland and other stuff works out after that. You said anybody would be better than trump in march, but now, you say if hes ahead and there is a new set of polls that says trump is tied, maybe he feels differently than he did before. Bill from the exit polling in West Virginia and nebraska, there was no gender gap between men and women with trump. Is that exclusive to those states or is this start something build a trend . There was no race so there was no gender gap. We wouldnt expect to see a gender gap. The race ended a week ago. The republican race was over a week ago. Donald trump has done better. He will end up losing fewer states than merit romney or john mccain. He ended up with 40 of the popular vote. He shot the moon. He got the thing nobody said he could do. Bill well get to the democrats in a moment. Hillary clinton won every county 8 years ago. She lost every county last night. Both those things were about barack obama. West virginia democrats didnt want obama. It didnt have anything to do with ideology, it had to do with the man. Bill its wall about the coal. Its all about the coal. Martha Paul Manafort promising to flip the script on the convention. He said trump is a tv star so dont expect the same old format. This is the ultimate reality show. Its the presidency of the United States. Well put it in ways we hope will be entertaining and more important, informative. Martha we talk to Barry Bennett what they may have planned for this summer. Its interesting to hear Paul Manafort Say Something that was said when trump started running. He said, it looks like a big show. Bill they are giving us some hints about what to expect in cleveland. So well suck that out in about 10 minutes. Martha Hillary Clinton suffering another loss last night. Bernie sanders has won 19 states compared to her 23. While she may be crushing it in delegate counts, this whole thing works in a weird way. Bernie sanders says it will be a tough battle, but he is not going anywhere. Let me be as clear as i can be. We are in this campaign to win the democratic nomination. We fully acknowledge we are good at arithmetic, that we have an uphill climb ahead of us. But we are used to fighting uphill climbs. Martha the West Virginia results fueling a debate over the nomination process. The New York Post this morning, stop the coronation. Reporter senator sanders told oregon voters who will vote next tuesday that he thinks he can win here, and he thinks he can win anywhere after last nights West Virginia results because West Virginia is a place Hillary Clinton won by 40 points over barack obama in 2008. And senator sanders told supporters who turn up by the thousands any place he goes in the country that hes not going to exit before the convention in philadelphia this summer. Our message to the democratic democrats who will be assembling in philadelphia is while we may have many disagreements with secretary clinton, there is one area we agree. We must defeat donald trump. Reporter earlier in the day yesterday, sanders responded to the Vice President , joe biden. Sanders has won 9 states, only four more to go until he catches clinton. Hillary continues devoting almost all of her energy to the general election and donald trump at least publicly. Hillary clinton will have a Conference Call to discuss their problems with trumps economic policies. And the only mention of sanders was to critique his plans for free college. I dont believe in free college for the wealthy. I dont support that. My opponent and materials does. We just have a difference. But he also requires a third of the cost for free college be paid by the states. Reporter that was hardly a victory rally. She was long gone by the time the results came in and she has not spoken about the West Virginia loss. Bill a terrifying scene in baghdad. A car blows up in a market filled with shoppers. Martha look at these pictures. Days after day, a storm system moving east from the plains states. Where it struck last night and where the tornadoes could be headed next. Youre late for work. You grab your 10gallon jug of coffee, and back out of the garage. Right into your wifes car. With your wife watching. She forgives you. Eventually. Your Insurance Company, not so much. Martha the director of intelligence James Clapper says retaking the city of mosul will take time, and it wont happen during this administration. He says the conflict in syria will take a long time and well be in a constant state of suppression for a long time. Donald trump understands media, hes a Television Star and hes connected with america. Reince priebus is going to give us an exciting convention. We are going to put a program together. This is the ultimate reality show, the presidency of the United States. Bill Paul Manafort promising a different kind of convention this summer. Sir, good morning to you. Good morning. Bill i heard donald trump say 2012 in tampa was boring. More or less. Did you see it that way . I think most Republican Conventions are relatively boring. I hope this year we can do something about that. People are engaged in different platforms and we need to engage them on those platforms. We need to do more education and worry about whos speaking in the limelight a lot less. Bill the suggestion in that interview with manafort was you could see trump earlier that week in a different city . We havent gone far at all on the decisions, but there is a train of thought perhaps mr. Trump speaks every night from a different city across america, talking about a problem he discovered and a solution to that pain. Bill you know they are on message every night. Usama bin laden is dead, gm is alive and there is a war on women. How do you figure the clarity trump speaks in 2016 to make sure people hear that. We can talk about messages much more powerful than those. People who feel like they are not being heard. People who feel like they are lied to and hurting because the government is not address their pain. We can do that and go to the worst school in america and go to a closed down factory. We can tell the American People that we understand their problems, we feel their pain, and here is a solution. A republican conservative solution. Bill when you try and sift this baffle a Television Event which conventions are. Is it more important to have the Television Event or the focus on the issues. How do you manage that. How is that produced . I think we have to talk about the issues. Thats what you win campaigns on, not Television Events. Television is a huge, huge part of the convention, but its not the only part. Donald trump is a master of social media. We need to engage those people through social media and the convention. He totally gets it. Hes probably the most media adept candidate ever. Bill when manafort talks about the presidency of the United States being the ultimate reality show, what does that mean to you . People want to see more than they have seen in the past about these campaigns. They want to understand that the candidate is listening, that hes a solution. And you cant do that in a 30second ad. It has to be an attitude throughout the campaign. Thats what you will see this fall. Bill this morning on fox and friends he suggested Rudy Giuliani might head up a special committee on muslim immigration in america. As a Senior Adviser are you in tune with that possibility. A majority of americans understand we have to do a better job screening good people from bad people as they come into the country. You look at immigration in total to make sure we let the best and the brightest come in best who can row the boat with the rest of us. Bill should we expect that announcement soon . We have a lot of things going on. Bill its a work in progress on the campaign coming together the way it is. We hope you come back because we would like to follow and figure out whats happening on the inside. Thank you. Martha dramatic dash cam footage capturing minivan mayhem. This woman on the run from police. Bill a deadly stabbing spree. A suspect crashed his car into a macys and did a lot of dan inside. You dont expect thing like this to happen in your neighborhood. Im in vests and as a vested investor in vests, i invest with e trade, where investors can investigate and invest in vests. Or not in vests. This is my retirement. Retiring retired tires. And i never get tired of it. Are you entirely prepared to retire . Plan your never tiring retiring retired tires retirement with e trade. Bill police say a mother in ohio is at large after this. Dash cam foot and shows the van hopping curves. Weaving in and out of front lawns in suburban areas as well as on the highways. Authority say she fled a Court Hearing after finding out she had many outofstate warrant including one for possession of heroin. When you see that clip, its extraordinary to know she or nobody else got hurt. Martha she is on the run and that was in springfield township. Police say a man went on a deadly stabbing preoutside of boston. Two people were killed and several others were hurt before an offduty officer gunned hip down. Shoppers running for their lives. They had guns drawn and canines were out. They had to lock the kid in the store and lockdown. Martha have the Police Identified the suspect yet . The suspect was 28yearold arthur eroso. Police say he killed two people and the carnage came to an end after he was shot by an officer. Authority say he was involved in a car wreck in that neighborhood and for month apparent reason attacked two women believed to be a mother and daughter. He fatally stabbed the 80yearold woman before driving to the mall. He then exited his vehicle, assaulted multiple people inside macys before making his way on foot to the Italian Restaurant located at the mall. Once inside the restaurant, he stabbed four people, one of whom is now deceased. All stabbing victim were transported to more on hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Reporter prosecutors say he killed a 56yearold man inside the restaurant. The deputy who shot him took one shot and hes being hailed for helping to prevent a further victims. Martha anybody know what sent hip on this rampage. Reporter investigators have not offered up a motive other than to say they dont believe this has anything to do with terrorism. But relatives say he has a history of Mental Illness and depression and had sought Psychiatric Care as early as monday. Bill you can put another win in the Bernie Sanders couple. Hillary clinton loses West Virginia badly, but the superdelegates will still have their say. What does that say about the system. Martha an iconic brand making a radical change that has a lot of people scratching their head this morning. You wouldnt take medicine without checking the side effects. Hey honey. Huh. The good news is my hypertension is gone. So why would you invest without checking brokercheck . Check your broker with brokercheck. One of many pieces in my i havlife. Hma. Reporter social media connected to isis claimed responsibility for this bombing. Its an attack similar to other attacks they carried out in parts of iraq in the last year or so. People tend to think this is an isis bombing. The death toll has been steadily climbing throughout the day. Its up to 63 people dead. The bomb going off in a crowded market area in a predominantly shiite muslim area. Isis is a sunni muslim insurgency that targeted militia fighters and civilians in iraq. These types of attacks which are very, very regular, 6, 9 months ago have become less and best prek. Its happening at a time when isis is losing ground in other parts of iraq and syria. They still haved the ability to carry out largescale attacks. It shows you how fragile the Security Apparatus is. Bill iraqs government is under increasing pressure, too, at the same time. Reporter this coincide with the massive loss of territory that isis seized from the Iraqi Government a year and a half ago. And it comes under increasing political pressure average iraqis who wanted to see a reduction in corruption and Better Services from the Iraqi Government. The green zone which houses Iraqs Parliament was overrun by protesters, they are demanding everything from improvement in social services and reduction in corruption. And there is a linkerring frustration about the inability of the Iraqi Government to tackle the isis insurgency. Iraq is very fragile now not on from the insurgents but their interior problems that are running very deep. Everything really about hillary is rigged. She looks like she is going to be able to run. That sounds like how can she run with what she did with the emails. Who knows whats going on. The democrats seem to control it. Its a horrible thing. The election, i call him crazy bernie because hes not very good. I havent started on him. Maybe im going to have to start based on he wins, wins, wins and everybody sits around the table saying he cant win. Martha thats Presumptive Republican nominee donald trump weighing in on Bernie Sanders. Bernie sanders keeping his hopes alive as Hillary Clinton chalks up another loss. Bernie sanders has won 19 states, clinton has won 23 states. But the delegate lead pretty much blows him out of the water. Hes extremely popular, and that is proving some problems for Hillary Clinton and her campaign. Joined by alan colmes, brad blakeman, gentlemen, welcome. Great to have you both here this morning. Alan, why dont you take that on first in terms of how surprising it is when you think about the cover of the paper this morning. This is not a coronation, and more clear every day its not. If it was a coronation, she would say its a coronation, she is walking away with it. She is barely limping to victory. Her detractors will spin it whatever way benefits them. I think they will be worried about the fractures on their own side. We just saw the clip of trump who says hes not going to attack Bernie Sanders but he calls him crazy. Martha it seems like he may have to take on Bernie Sanders. Any time anyone is asked this question on the democratic side, they say look whats happening over there. But the focus of the question is on the democratic side. Lets take a look at this matchup in the quinnipiac polls. This is sanders versus trump. Hes ahead 4442 in florida. 4341 in ohio and outside the margin of error. 4741 in pennsylvania. Based on that, your thoughts on the democratic side. It will never be bernie. It was never going to be bernie. He was supposed to be token opposition. Now hillary is being embarrassed by the fact you have a selfproclaimed socialist giving her a run for her money. Bernie isnt going anywhere. Hes got a lot of capital to spend both in the Party Platform turning it way far left. Also a speaking role im sure. Because of super delegates Hillary Clinton is assured the nomination. Its mathematically impossible for bernie to win outright. If she is not indicted, it will be hillary. Martha lets look at the delegates. There was so much discussion the rnc or establishment might try to wrestle away the nomination from donald trump. But look at the superdelegate situation on the democratic side where you have got 523 superdelegates for her, 39 for him. There are 2319 in the states they have won. Does the Democratic Party need to do some soul searching on this issue and who picks their candidate . I think the system is a terrible system. Caucuses versus primaries. People vote differently in caucuses. Bernie does better in caucuses than primaries. By the time you get to the latter states people might give up and not vote because they feel their candidate may have already lost. Its a terrible system and it should be reevaluated. I know you just mentioned the possibility of indictment. Its a question thats hangs out there and you can get any side of where thats going to come down. This is the situation at hand. Give me how you see donald trump stack up against Hillary Clinton. The battleground states to watch obviously are florida and ohio. We cant win and never have won without florida and ohio. Then we move on to virginia, another battleground state. Then we go to colorado and nevada. Then michigan is in play. We have some tough states to win. But the good news is as we have seen by the current polling, trump is giving hillary a run for her money and in some states hes up by points. The battleground states are mustwins for republicans because we are outnumbered in the electoral college. Well never win new york. Im sorry, but donald trump isnt going to win new york. Martha he hes aahead. In the headtohead matchup hes doing better than romney was at this same time in 2012. Bill what are they waiting on . What could be more american than sipping ice cold beer on the 4th of july. How about drinking america itself. Budweiser renaming its beer america. They will start selling the cans up until november. Election time. Its happy hour somewhere. Martha its a Marketing Campaign opinion expired by the make America Great campaign and the coke cans that have peoples names on them. Its very successful. Bill cheryl mills briefly walk out of an interview with the f. B. I. A brandnew documentary is about to make its debut in cannes, france. She walked out, walked back in moment later with her lawyers saying the questions were off limits. The clinton team is saying they are off limits because cheryl mills was the state department chief of staff and attorney for the clintons. The ke is what was the motor takes for setting up the server. The clinton team say the was out of convenience. But others say it was to he a raid the disclosure requirements. Im not attorney sow i dont know all the ins and outs. But she was the chief of staff at the state department. She was not their private, personal attorney. So i dont understand the argument that there is an attorneyclient privilege. Bill from the post, the way in which emails were give to the state department to be distributed to the public twice. What does that mean . That means the freedom. Information act allows people to get disclose ours of government emails. Because the clintons set up this apparatus, hillary had to turn over emails to the state department that could be released through the freedom of information act. How did the clintons decide what were personal and private. Bill the personal emails were deleted, so we are told. If you look at the total number, they deleted more than they turned over. Which means their contention is as secretary of state she sent more private and personal emails. Bill the heat lied, released emails show use of unclassified systems was routine. Is that the washington defense thats developing . It is, but it doesnt have merit. Colin powell, there were a couple of emails he received that were on his private email. But nobody has set up an apparatus that was designed to send all emails to a private server. We know based on the clinton track record that that server went down. When Hurricane Sandy came through new york, she had no email for 10 days. Bill the washington investigation appears to be coming to a close. I think the email investigation is. I think it Clinton Foundation investigation is continuing. Bill are you are suggesting the server investigation is coming to a close. But the Foundation Investigation is not. They are interviewing cheryl mills and eventually Hillary Clinton. Its my understanding they have a lot of agents looking into the Clinton Foundation and they are gathering information. Bill f. B. I. And federal prosecutors have found little evidence according to this report of mishandled doft documents. That would warrant pursuing a criminal case. If thats true, this is dead. Dead in the water during the middle of an elect season. Yes. I always thought, and i always thought the Clinton Foundation investigation was far more troubling. I think the ins and outs and the technicalities of the email server are far more difficult to prove intentional, that she intended to avoid the scrutiny, though i think thats why she did it. Bill well see how it does and well see how people react. Thanks. Martha terrifying moment caught on video when a tornado touches down. People take shelter near feet away. This is a day before might be with donald trump tomorrow. It will be a major story today. Martha a dangerous storm slamming the ohio valley. Here is what it looked like in western kentucky when a tornado started ripping through a car dealership. Look at all that debris getting thrown into the air. Violent wind took down homes, businesses, and left 10 people injured. This comes one day after a series of tornado in oklahoma. What a storm this has been, including taking the lives of two people and injuring several others. Bill be safe out there. In the meantime, we have this. Vladimir putin put on display just how much of a man he is. Taking part in an allstar hockey match in sochi, not everything went according to plan. At one point he lo his balance and fell on the ice. He many often photographed riding a horse and taking his rivals down in karate. I think thats judo. And posing with a big fish. There is your evidence. Martha im sure it wasnt his fault that he fell. There was an error in the ice. Get the zamboni out andific that thing up. Right now we are awaiting remark from House Speaker paul ryan after republican members huddles together on capitol hill. There is no doubt that unifying the party and getting that meeting underway tomorrow is the most important thing that they have to deal with in term of the presumptive nominee and the carved out fight ahead of them. I was thinking about the conversation i had with speaker ryan two week ago it was on a monday afternoon. The day before indiana. The day before ted cruz drops out. Thats two days before john kasich drops out. In that interview he said i can leave the politic out of that. I will support our nominee. And since cruz got out and since case up got out, ryan has gone to a different tack. He considers himself as a conservative to the core. He does not consider donald trump a conservative to the core. Hes got that side of the republicans in the house who need convincing, and thats a lot about not just what today is about, but also tomorrow. Martha situation and say paul ryan is protecting himself. He doesnt want to be connected with donald trump. He thinks hes going to lose and he want to leave the road open for himself down the road. Others say this process will strengthen the party in the end. If paul ryan can be brought around by donald trump, the lot of other people will be brought around as well. Plus there is this. Moments from now with the start of the weekly gop briefing which will get underway. That is the cameras and microphones youre looking at on lefthand side of your screen. All of this happens 24 hours before the big meeting on the hill tomorrow morning between donald trump and House Speaker paul ryan. Others are participating. Ryan says he is not ready. This process happened too quickly to know whether or not they could be on board. They have different principles when it comes to conserve conservatism. He is looking forward to talking with donald trump. Welcome to hour two of americas newsroom. Im martha maccallum. Bill im bill hemmer. Meeting with other Top Republicans comes as trump narrows his vicepresident ial search. He tells bill oreilly he has short list of veteran politicians, maybe five or six. He has not ruled out his White House Transition Team either, which is new Jersey Governor Chris Christie as of yesterday we found out. I like chris a lot. Im not going to say ruling in or out. I have in mind five different people. I think theyre excellent. I will announce whoever it will be at the convention. Can you give me one . Id love to give you all five but i cant, bill. I wont do that bill. Youre in charge. Not even fair to you. Martha michael warren, staff writer for weekly standard. Good to see you this morning. Lets deal with first things first here. The republicans sort of getting their ducks in a row, thinking how they approach the donald trump issue when he arrives on capitol hill tomorrow. What do you think about what paul ryans strategy is here . I dont know if paul ryan has a strategy. I get the sense that he is not quite sure what to do about the donald trump situation that the republicans find themselves in. Paul ryan has spent a career in washington before he was elected to the house and now in the more than a decade that he has been in the house, advancing a conservative agenda, a set of ideas that he, i think truly believes in and, so now, i think he is faced with the prospect that the leader of the Republican Party, after the convention, who is likely to be donald trump, isnt really interested in advancing that kind of agenda or really any kind of coherent policy agenda. So i think he is really, paul ryan is trying to figure out where does his political goals, where do they go from here . Is there a future for a political agenda like paul ryans in the Republican Party and in the country and im not sure he has an idea what the answer is. Martha yeah. You know it is sort of interesting, that is an understatement, to watch the dance here because donald trump initially said, well, fine, if he doesnt run the convention, thats okay, that is not the end of the world. Paul ryan opened the door getting off the hook running convention. Everybody said maybe he doesnt want to be there or be part of this. Now donald trump is speaking in more conciliatory tones. We got along fine. Im sure we get together to talk this out. Do you think paul ryan is trying to protect his future career and, can he do both in this situation, do you think . I mean this is really kind of uncharted territory for everybody involved and i think paul ryan realizes that. Hes, less concerned i think about a political career, this sort of set of political ideas, fixing the entitlement issue and paying down the debt. And i think that the fact that this is a president ial candidate in donald trump who is expressly against reforming entitlements got him on board a little bit where that future is. Martha you touched on what are the essential elements here which are entitlement reform and tax reform. Those are the backbone of paul ryan, that is what he cares about. If you look at the candidates who are out there, which was the most sort of aggressive reformer was one of the Big Questions of which candidate should win the republican nomination. Now you have a candidate that says this isnt the conservative party, this is the Republican Party. He is going at it entirely different way. I want to get thoughts on vicepresident ial issue of donald trump. He says he will not announce until the convention. Here is his Campaign Manager, Corey Lewandoski. It is not about agenda or geographic representtation. It is about who is best as partner to bring our country back where it is. We have to make sure we dont have another four more years with democrat in the white house taking our country in the opposite direction. It is about the getting right person on the ticket to get mr. Trumps agenda. Martha he said it is not typical thing geographically, your thoughts. Shocking that the most unpresident ial candidate which isnt going with conventional route, shoring up some kind of weakness on geography or on policy, these sorts of things. Donald trump doesnt really admit to having any weaknesses. So i think he will be looking for somebody who is as Corey Lewandoski says, a partner, someone who is loyal. I think somebody like Chris Christie is possibility there. The Trump Campaign has said they want somebody with political experience, with governing experience. Rick scott, the governor from florida, is another, who would help geographically. I guess the idea would help to get florida in the republican column. But, ultimately i think donald trump is the kind of guy who is going to make the decision from his gut and it is going to be somebody who is loyal to donald trump and is somebody going to be a good soldiers. Not somebody that will outshine or deviate from what trump wants to do. Martha mike, thanks. Always good to talk to you. Thanks. Bill as we await paul ryan. Lets get to what ultimately matters in november. That is electoral votes. This is the map from 2012. Democrats in blue, republicans in red. You see obama romney, 332 to 206. Lewandoski last night with sean hannity he made an argument how trump could make this map very different in nerve. Listen here. Watch. He is ahead in the state of ohio. Deadeven in the state of pennsylvania. Deadeven in the state of florida. When you start putting states like that in play and michigan and new york, potentially massachusetts and indiana and places where republicans havent done historically as well as they could have the map expands. Well talk a lot about florida and ohio and pennsylvania but just take that one comment he made there about massachusetts and new york. Here in the northeast, from 2008, it was all democrat. This is the electoral map four years prior to 2008, sorry, 2012 and 2008. It is still blue. Back in 2004, it doesnt change. 2000, george bush won New Hampshire 16 years ago. If donald trump were to win a massachusetts or a new york, he would win the white house, based on history and based on what weve seen so far. Just to take some of the polls we saw this past week, you know the trump strategy. Really cut into and watch how the numbers change here, pennsylvania and ohio, michigan. Even if he were to win, those three states, and that is a huge challenge right now, pennsylvania, ohio, michigan, he is still 10 shy. He would still need to go looking for another state. Maybe virginia. Maybe that comes back into the republican fold. Maybe wisconsin. Wisconsin would get him at number of 270. The point of all of this, how difficult it is to win the white house as a republican when californias democratic with 55 and new york is democratic with 29. So again well take this off the map. Well work through the scenarios and figure out over the next six months how those numbers can change out there. How you ultimately get to 270, that is what matters now. Is lewandoski right . Do they think they have a shot in massachusetts and state of new york . If they do as i mention, they win the white house in 2016. Martha you and i talked about the numbers, sheer numbers of democrats so far outweigh number of republicans in those states, new york it lake lar, and massachusetts as well. He has done a lot of work with industrial counties and towns. That is good for him. He has places like mississippi and utah which might go other way, which typically is like red states. He will not look at electoral map the way everybody else has. He doesnt care much about the datadriven stuff about the core of obama campaigns clearly. So can he turn all that on its head . I dont know. Bill my sense a lot more realistic to keep indiana in the Republican Party. Indiana flipped in 2008. You have to go back decades to find where indiana went democratic. Other possibility gets a lot of attention is state of virginia because obama flipped it in 2008. He held it in 2012. You to go back to 1960 or 1964 to find out when virginia went for democrats. There is a lot of growth in Northern Virginia but look what trump is doing in those down counties in virginia . Can they offset the washington d. C. Area. Martha think about virginia was the state romney knew they had to win, right . They spent so much time, Romney Campaign in virginia wanting to flip virginia back and make it a red state. They were not able to do that. Can donald trump do it . Totally different candidate . Well see. We wait for paul ryan to come into the room after their meetings to get a little bit of thumbnail sketch what to expect for tomorrow but in the meantime we want to get to this troubling situation that is unfolding in iraq right now. There have been three separate, consecutive car bombs going off. Isis car bombs in baghdad and close to 160 people have lost their lives in these. Number one happened in sadr city. The second bomb went off in the kadima district. The third one in the western part of the city across baghdad today, targeting shia strongholds there. We spoke earlier about the fact that things have been calming down to certain extent in some of these areas in iraq and the suggestion was that maybe isis was losing some of its traction and ability to pull off those bombings but they have come back with avenge against today and a vengance. A loss of life in the area of 160 people. What does this say about the obama strategy against isis and the effort thats underway, the people that have been put on the ground to build up armies and help soldiers to become fortified in iraq to push back against isis . They have sent a very clear message today that they are fighting to hang on to the strong holds that they have in that area. A tough, troubled situation. Something we dont hear a whole lot about the administration but today is very difficult one in the streets of baghdad. Bill back here in the u. S. , waiting on paul ryan. Dont move. Well have it live when it happens. Meantime a new controversy for the white house after the president s historic visit to japan. White house says it will not be an apology. Ralph peters will take that on. He will go to japan and gold to hiroshima, talk about a World Without nukes. That is lala land. That is utopia. It will never happen. In new york state, we believe tomorrow starts today. All across the state, the economy is growing, with creative new business incentives, the lowest taxes in decades, and new infrastructure for a new generation attracting the talent and companies of tomorrow. Like in rochester, with worldclass botox. And in buffalo, where medicine meets the future. Let us help grow your companys tomorrow today at business. Ny. Gov i am totally blind. I lost my sight in afghanistan. If youre totally blind, you may also be struggling with non24. Calling 8448442424. Or visit my24info. Com. Martha so we have dueling moments here happening on capitol hill. You have nancy pelosi who is speaking after the democrats had their meeting. She has come out. She played a video of sort of antitrump stuff on their side of the fence and then on the other side, we are waiting for paul ryan, who is expected to come out and make some comments. He just finished meeting with his colleagues. No doubt got earful of their thoughts whether or not he should be on board or not be on board because there is a lot of division on the hill on those two issues of the he made waves last week. He said he wasnt ready to get behind donald trump just yet. He said this whole thing happened, came out about a lot more quickly than he wanted to. He needs time and conversation to see where he stands. Lets bring in Shelley Moore capito, republican West Virginia. Her state voted last evening. She will be at the meeting tomorrow. Thanks, martha. Martha i know you say you will endorse the eventual gop nominee because you have some questions as well for donald trump. What are you going to ask him tomorrow . Well i have a couple of questions. I never met mr. Trump. I look forward to the meeting tomorrow with the Senate Leadership and the two things really on my mind is, in the state of West Virginia he made a, some statements that he will put coal miners back to work. He will have more jobs. I want to hear more specifics. What kind of specific plans does he have in terms of a full energy plan, in terms of getting West Virginia ans back to work. But probably the most important question for me is, as my colleague stated, what you say matters but how you say it matters as much. Ive been concerned about the tone that he is taken throughout the campaign. It is time to unite. It is time to become one party and when we do that, i want to make sure he strikes a tone that represents me and my party, to win the presidency. Martha yeah. I mean what he has said on that so far is that he is sticking with what works. I mean he knows when he is out there with these rallies which he says has been great investment he says for his campaign, that he gets the crowd riled up. Knows theyre with him. That what they want to hear. He also has promised to sound more president ial but you know, he said i really dont want to do that just yet. I have people to sort of vanquish. Hillary clinton is clearly one in his sight right now. Do you expect a change in tone . I hope a change in tone. Just because he has the enthusiasm, he has momentum. He has the ear of the American People in terms of turning back the policies of the president , defeating Hillary Clinton. Lets take that enthusiasm and move it in a positive way. The tone thaw strike, ive been campaigning for many, many times. You can whip up a crowd in a very positive way without sort of a slash and burn rhetoric and i think, he can do that. He is very masterful getting the crowd enthusiastic. Talk about positive direction he will take us, that i think makes those of us who are out campaigning, that will up our intensity as we look toward a unified ticket in the summer and in the fall. Martha yeah. For paul ryan, clearly the issues are going to be entitlements, tax reform, cutting spending. Donald trump has signaled that those are not really his priorities. We see people coming out. Were waiting for paul ryan. Can you squeeze in an answer . I can. To me, economy, economy, jobs jobs. All those things fall into place. Willingness of congress to tackle tough issues. Give get people back to work to give them a sense optimism. Martha were still waiting. Comments about women he has gotten heat for, will you talk about that . Absolutely i will talk about comments about women. That deeply concerns me as republican leader, a woman leader. Im going to reinforce that with him tomorrow. Martha he says he is just joking. It was entertainment environment and that people shouldnt be too concerned about it. If he says that to you what are you going to say . I he is miscalculating how some of his comments are interpreted and obviously how they hit younger women. How they hit women in the workforce. Just hearing it from more and more women i think as part of our party is important for him to hear. It is important to us. It should be important to him. Martha will you come back after you talk to him . I would love to hear how all of this goes . I would love to. Martha you talk to him tomorrow. Maybe on friday you might join us again. It would be really interesting to hear what your response is. Thank you so much, senator. Thanks, martha. Martha lets go back, listen in, capitol hill as we await paul ryan after gop meetings on the hill. Lost her son to an opioid over dose. He had been a high school senior, 18 years old, football player, great young guy. Got hooked on heroin. But age 20 he lost his life. This is after he was in treatment, recovery. She stood by him. She worked with him but he lost his life to an heroin overdose at age 20. So she started an Organization Called overdose lifeline because she said she needed to do it until the dying stops. And the dying is happening every hour, every day, all across this country. Martha obviously theyre dealing with some other issues here this morning and some important ones but as we wait for Speaker Paul Ryan to come out, we watched back and forth, bill, over what his motivation is, you know. What is he trying to achieve . Are some of his aims personal and political in terms of his own political future . Or he is known to be a very principled man who cares very much about conservative issues and wants to hear about tax reform. Wants to hear about taking on social security. Donald trump told america, he is not cutting social security. In terms of taxes there is a lot of dispute and discussion about what his tax plan is. He did say a couple of times he did not have problem increasing taxes on wealthy including himself. He then said what he meant by the statements from the tax plan he rolled out he understood some of those ranges might have to rise a little bit and that might include him paying higher taxes himself. He is also talked about his own taxes. Bill remember where paul ryan has been mentally past couple years. Coming off the vp loss to mitt romney in 2012. He went on poverty tour. He was acolyte of jack kell going back to the early 1990s. He was intern on the hill for jack kemp. Bought in many ways philosophically what jack kemp preached. Paul ryan went on listening tour in urban areas all throughout america and put his focus on poverty. In all likelihood not just like taxes or government or conservative principles. How did they come to a meeting of the mind between two of them on issue of poverty . He clearly made that a focus point for him over the past couple years. I would also suggest that the presumptive nomination of donald trump came much quicker than even paul ryan expected. You know i mentioned a short time ago. We had paul ryan on our program two weeks ago but that was 24 hours before ted cruz dropped out. That was 48 hours before john kasich dropped out of the race as well. At the time he had told us he is not getting involved in the nittygritty election battle here. But he would support the nominee, whoever that nominee would be. Since that time, a different tack. The reason for that is ryans conservative principles and questions as to whether or not donald trump reflects that or indeed truly a conservative which is what you hear often from those on the right. Think about ben sasse, the nebraska senator, who says he is not on board, and never will be on board. That is what ryan brings to this conversation. Well see what in turn donald trump brings as well. Martha well sneak in a quick break. We wait for paul ryan to get to the podium moments away. We will be right back with more. eeeeohmumohweh hush my darling. dont fear my darling. the lion sleeps tonight. hush my darling. man snoring dont fear my darling. the lion sleeps tonight. woman snoring take the roar out of snore. Woot woot the ready for you alert, only at laquinta. Com. La. Quinta yeah bill aspected speaker ryan now at the podium. He is talking about an experience that he has just gone through. The pass what is known as the promise act. That deals with issue of opioids in america today, prescription medication, overprescribed medications. Rampant heroin abuse all over the country. This is part of what his introductory remarks are about. We would expect he would quickly pivot back to the election of 2016. As we mentioned at top of the remarks during the commercial break there he would get to the meeting that would happen tomorrow and we assume he will get to that after he finishes this very significant and important point on whats happening in American Culture today in communities and towns and states all across the nation. Martha so many stories like the one that he is talking about right now and they are getting the attention that they deserve. There is no doubt donald trump talked about it a lot. There is no doubt you will hear a lot about this topic which affected so many small town communities and large communities as well across the country. Kevin mccarthy stepping in front of the podium to continue their comments this morning as paul ryan said he does not want to talk about the meeting that is going to happen tomorrow. He wanted to talk about a meeting he had yesterday. Remains to be seen whether we hear about the upcoming donald trump meeting but no doubt they have a lot of work to do to get people on the same page on capitol hill. The gop is divided on this issue which democrats will not miss the opportunity to point out. We heard it from Debbie Wassermanschultz yesterday. We heard it from nancy pelosi this morning. So it is very clear that the division that is occurring on capitol hill with republican side is something they will try to work out tomorrow with donald trump. So well see how far donald trump says he is great negotiator. He has his work cut out on capitol hill. Well see how it goes. More on that as we get it. Bill here is another significant headline. At least 157 reportedly killed today in three separate car bombings across baghdad. Isis claiming responsibility for at least one of the attacks so far, targeting a crowd outside after crowded market in sadr city. Lt. Colonel ralph peters on this. Colonel we brought you in to talk about another topic we will put off another day. This is carnage that knows no human end. Yeah, absolutely. Its, look, you have to understand it in religious terms which our president and liberal establishment refuses to do. These are sunnis targeting shia. Other times sunni targeting shia. There are multilevel civil wars in iraq and they are about the faith. With radical cults like Islamic State and isis and al qaeda, especially isis, this is blunt sacrifice in the name of a god. Slaughter to please a god in their perverted version of islam. And the fact that you know, one of the bombings was outside of a beauty parlor purposely targeting women who just want to have decent lives. So our unwillingness, that of our president , and that of the establishment overall in washington to come to grips with the virulent, gory nature of this religion gone crazy hinders our efforts to counter it any respect. If you dont recognize the enemy you cant defeat them. Bill no beating this enemy based on the forces assembled in iraq today. Iraqis cant do it. Arab partners have not come together. 5000 forces are on the ground in iraq today. 5000 wont do it. So when does it end and how . It probably drags on between, beyond not only my lifetime but beyond yours because if these when a culture, a civilization collapses as that of the arab civilization in the middle east has done, and reverts to really primitive, fundamentalist, extreme fundamentalist forms of religion it takes a long time to burn out. As far as the number of troops go, the number of troops are important but even more important is resolve. Putin doesnt have large numbers of troops in syria but he has the resolve to do what has to be done whereas our troops are hampered by ridiculous rules of engagement, unwillingness of the Obama Administration to have any Collateral Damage whatsoever. Unless you have adequate numbers, a plan, and resolve to carry it through youre not going to make progress. Bill, we need to get over, even jim clapper, our senior intel man said recently in an interview, we cant fix the middle east. What we need to do is concentrate on our priorities and our priorities have to be destroying those radical islamist movements that target americans and the west. Civilization versus civilization. Bill is there comments take three to five years, colonel . Isnt that what we were told . Is that the time frame that was given . If so, how can you afford to wait that long . Well, whats the alternative . If you have a president who wont fight for america. Who would rather go on apology tour to hiroshima, and it is an apology tour, than address americas present day enemies, youre not going to make a lot of progress. Again, the greatest advantage, Islamic State and other terrorist movements have is their strength of will, their determination to win. If we can not match that with equal determination, a ruthless determination to destroy them, we will keep on losing. You know, even mosul, you remember mosul was supposed to be retain from isis last year. Bill not goings to happen. Not going to happen this year. Jim clapper said it will take a long time before it happens. We dont want to dedicate resources or suffer any bad publicity. This is preposterous, the result is, the result of president obamas false humanitarian system a humane terrorism is slaughter you see today. Bill thank you,. Martha paul ryan addressing questions lets take a listen. What were trying to do is be constructive as possible to have real unification. I said today to pretend were unified as a party after coming through very bruising primary which ended like a week ago, to pretend were unified, not actually unifying we go into the fall at halfstrength. This is election is too important to go into the election atstrength. We need real unification of our party. After tough primary. That will take effort. I want to be part of that unifying process so were full strength this fall to win this election. We can not afford to lose this election to Hillary Clinton, to pack the supreme court, keep the liberal obama agenda going. We have to be at full strength to win this election and that is why we have to go through the actual effort and process of unifying. Mr. Speaker [inaudible]. Youve been very vocal in your differences on policy with donald trump. So what is it that you need to hear from him at some point to fully endorse him . Is there a situation in which you dont . Look i think these are conversations were going to have. I dont really know him. I met him once in person in 2012. We had a very good conversation in march on the phone. We just need to get to know each other and we as a Leadership Team are enjoying the fact we have a chance to meet with him. So i would rather have a conversation in person than through the media. No offense. What about policy positions . This is Big Tent Party. There is plenty of room for different policy disputes in this party. We come from different wings of the party. The goal here is to unify the various wings of the party around common principles so we go forward unified. Juan . You spoke with ben carson, a top trump supporter last night. What was mr. Carsons message to you ahead of this meeting with donald trump . First of all ben carson is a great guy. Ben carson is trying to provide constructive role to help, he wants to be a force to help all various wings of Republican Party and conservative movement to commodity together. He is trying to play a constructive role. Mr. Speaker, at the meeting tomorrow, can there be merged messages or can there be, you see a possibility of two separate messages, a congressional gop message and nominees message . Weve got a process. Were just getting started. Last thing i will say what the end of this process will be when were just beginning this process. The point i will make one more time. I really believe if we are successful this fall, we have to unify our party, go forward with a positive message that americans see we have solutions with their problems. When seven out of 10 americans dont like path this country is on and Hillary Clinton basically promising to keep going down the same path, we have obligation to merge and unify around common principles to offer the country a choice, better way forward that will take some Party Unification to do that. We finished one of the most grueling primaries in modern history. It will take some work and that is the kind of work were dedicated to doing. Thank you. You ask mr. Trump to release taxes before the election . Martha paul ryan taking questions about what we can expect tomorrow. He will meet with donald trump as will other leaders on capitol hill. We talked with smart capito. She will be in the meetings as well senator capito. He says it was difficult primary process on the republican side, it should not be surprising to anyone will take discussions to get people on the same page. He clearly expected john kasich and ted cruz will be all the way to california. This will move the process forward. Very much in front of him at this time. He wants to find a way to bring everybody into the Big Tent Party as he calls it. But were at different wings of it right now. He is looking for common ground. He spoke with him once in 2012, meaning donald trump. They had meaningful and good conversation i think he said in march over the phone which donald trump has spoken about. He looks forward to getting to know him better, so he knows where he stands on issues and find a way to unify the party and he is willing to do work to achieve that goal. So well see what happens tomorrow. Bill we wait to see what everybody lines up. Here is one already lined up. Congressman darrell issa, republican out of california. Delegate for donald trump in california. House judiciary and Foreign Affairs committees. Good morning to you. Right on time. Here is what you write. This time requires updated thinking of our party and place in american governance of the as trump makes his unifying trip wednesday to capitol hill and republicans need to get real and admit hard truths, end quote. What are the hard truths . The hard truth is donald trump offers a direction that is in every sense of the word a republican direction while Hillary Clinton offers us a direction that is the opposite. It is at least as extreme as president obamas, perhaps more to the left, perhaps more Bernie Sandersish. People can argue nuances within the Republican Party. Weve done that. That is what the primary process is all b well be arguing Hillary Clinton versus our alternative. Our alternative is in fact a team headed by donald trump that will come out of the July Cleveland convention destined to be the next president of the United States if we stay united against a flawed and perhaps criminal candidate. Bill you know what a lot of your colleagues think. They think trumps conservative credentials are mushy at best. Are you concerned about that . Well, if you look at the delegates from california, you have Kevin Mccarthy and doug osie, moderates. You have Duncan Hunter and myself, conservatives. There is plenty of us either on one side of the other of where donald trump might be on a particular issue but we all are moving in the direction away from hillarys solutions, ones that will be at least as extreme as president obamas. So i dont think there is any question about who we have to get with. Of course we can have a discussion about tax policy, budget reform, entitlement reform. Obviously Foreign Affairs, area that wasnt discussed by donald trump much on the campaign but well hit him square between the eyes, 22 nations currently all or partially occupied by isis. There will be plenty of things that President Trump will be faced with. He is not all together prepared for. He will need a team of about 24 cabinet officers that will in fact serve him in these various years and the congress and although not supporting him will have to support that. Bill clear after talking to bayry bennett, senior trump advisor theyre putting this together day by day. Clearly week by week but theyre changing and growing trying to get all this together. You write, if youre looking for stereotypical angry white male, look no further. Youre talking about yourself. What have you found in america, and what is expected reaction tomorrow at this time after trump holds meeting with house leaders and Senate Leaders in d. C. . Look, some will come on board. Others will sit on the sidelines. But i will just give you a controversial but i think appropriate one. We had to hold our nose and vote for George Herbert walker bush after the largest tax increase in american history, after a deal where he broke his promise not to raise our taxes, after he destroyed what was in fact the reagan revolution in flatter, fairer taxes. And so for that wing of the party, if you will, part of the establishment, to sit on the sidelines, is saying that they need the perfect. How do they define the perfect . Because George Herbert walker bush, good man, but he wasnt perfect in republican politics. And nor was any president. It is time to unify. It is time for those of us like myself who supported marco rubio, who was there at the last debate in miami and heard Different Levels of hooray and yea and boo for different candidates but heard overwhelming applause when Reince Priebus talked about defeating Hillary Clinton. We are republicans. That is the direction we want to go. Bill you stumped for rubio in seven different states. Now were in the present. You mentioned taxes. Trump says he will not release his tax returns before the election in november. He went on to say there is nothing to learn there and suggested that the public doesnt care. Is he right or do they . First of all i think the press cares for than the public. They always do. The fact is he and, if clinton is nominee as we expect, if they get into a contest who releases taxes or not, that will be decided later. Plenty of candidates said they wont release taxes and they later do. I suspect that mr. Trump has some of the most complex taxes ever. I suspect he pays his taxes. Dutifully and has a legion of accountants doing it but i certainly also suspect during the campaign we will be talking about what is called a form 990. Well be talking about the Clinton Foundation and the corrupt contributions that they made linked to the actual events that both bill and hillary did while they were taking buckets of money from entities tied to some very corrupt politicians abroad including president putin. Well undoubtedly talk about tax records. Some are already public. People who read clinton cash become aware Hillary Clinton has been involved in a number of things that need to be aired during the general election and they will be. Bill appreciate your time, sir. Thanks for coming on today. Thank you. Bill well be back in touch real soon. Thanks, bill. Bill darrell issa, republican from california. Martha. Martha donald trump ironing out his strategy for the general election and in true trump fashion he is throwing traditional norms pretty much out the window. Will the power of his personal appeal be enough to carry him to the white house . Well talk about it coming up. Martha so mr. Donald trump banking on his own money and his personal appeal to carry this campaign. The presumptive nominee dismissing Public Financing as well as the datadriven operations we have seen in such force in recent elections and, what many people believe was a major factor in propelling president obama to office as well. He says, quote, i have always felt it was overrated. Obama got the votes much more so than his Data Processing machine and i think the same is true with me. Is he right about that . Ed rollins, Campaign Manager for reaganbush ticket of 84. Manager of a superpac supporting donald trump. Joe trippi served as Campaign Manager for howard dean. Both fox news contributors. Hi, guys. Good to be with you. Martha ed, let me start with you. Is he right about that . The president obama and data issue was not as important as force he was . Obviously obama was very good candidate and he ran two very smart campaigns. Trump is running nontraditional campaign. Has been very successful doing it. Draws gigantic crowds. Turned more significant voters out than any in modern history. So my sense he is will do what he does well. This is about leadership. This isnt about data. Obviously you need to find your voters. Rnc has a lot of tools to do that my sense it is his campaign. He gets to run it the way he feels most comfortable with it. I think he will do that things like superpac, well try to fill in some of the blanks in in uncoordinated way. Not taking public money. No one taken public money in eight years. Not a big deal. Martha you cant produce heart and passion, joe. When you think of all struggle between obama camp and clinton camp would he unleash the machine for her so she would have all the data reach for her he was able to have. By all accounts, what weve seen, she is not generating the same kind of enthusiasm, doesnt matter what kind of data machine you have. First of all, she has gotten more votes than anybody running right now, more than donald trump. Martha good point. And sanders. But, i dont think that is the point here. I think there are two things. One i agree with ed. You have to be crazy to take Public Financing now. It would be just sheer, just buying into a total defeat, be crushed because of the limits are ridiculously obsolete. No one has done it in eight years. Donald trump shouldnt start. Im saying that as a democrat. I agree with him there. I think where he is wrong is in a national election, general election, yes, you can get, and obama had a powerful message that got people there but there is going to be eight or nine states that it is going to come down to every single vote counts and how you use your resources how you target them, to make that slim difference that could put the states electoral votes in your column. Martha gotcha. That is where trump needs data rnc is building. He is right, it is personality and message important. Martha i hear you. To walk away from data driven, that is a mistake. Martha we were told all summer, all fall, all people coming out of rallies, they will not show up to actually vote and lo and behold they showed up to actually vote. Look at this one. He is talking about negative ads here. He says i just dont find them to be very effective. I have had over 100 million in negative ads spent on me, every time it boosted my numbers. Ed, he says he will not spend a lot of money on negative Hillary Clinton ads. Do you believe him . That is what he begins with premise. He will get hit a lot more negative ads starting couple weeks. Romney was defined by negative ads. My sense, i dont call them negative. I call them educational ads. And the superpac im involved in, we certainly will do everything we can to educate the public on some of the deficiencies in mrs. Clinton but i think at the end of the day, again he gets to run the campaign he wants to run. He is sort of overpowered everything that joe and i traditionally think about in campaigns. He is very, very powerful messenger. That is obviously beneficial. Martha fascinating to watch all of this. Joe, ed, thank you so much. Thank you. Bill now we find the spacex spaceship setting a course for earth. How this latest venture could help the human race. What do you think that is about, maccallum . Hmmm. Well find out. Bill Spacex Dragon spacecraft returning to earth after spending a month in orbit. The capsule delivering 7,000 pounds of supplies to the space station. Phil keating there to watch it come back. The dragon is not quite done yet, right . Reporter it is scheduled to burn through the earths atmosphere 2 00 eastern time and splash out into the pacific just before 3 00 eastern time. 90 minutes ago, tim peek, the astronaut with the European Space agency used that big arm to reles the spacex cargo ship and ever so gently the dragon floated away. This ship went up last month which was historic launch for spacex because finally first time it successfully landed its rocket back down and up right on its landing barge. By the way, last friday spacex did it in the Early Morning hours after launching a satellite. Two in a row for spacex and it is plan for returning rockets. It comes home with 3700 pounds of cargo including samples pro ongoing human and biological research. That includes a thousand test tubes of urine, saliva and blood, all provided by famous astronaut scott kelly is now back on earth but provided those when he was up in space, all part of that big landmark nasa year in space study.
