Rocks at Police Officers there. Meanwhile, a chaotic scene in austin, texas. An armed man shot and killed after approaching a car that drove into a crowd of demonstrators. And more violence in chicago where at least 51 people were shot just over the weekend. Lets bring in byron york. Teresa . Trace s chief Political Correspondent for the washington examiner. Always good to see you, thanks for joining us this morning. You saw the pictures and images, wwe had violence over the weeked in at least a dozen cities. They say byron that there a lot of them are really in solidarity with the protesters in portland, but then you have Congress Members like Louie Gohmert saying, the real goal he believes in this situation is for these protests keep on going and eventually tried to push the president out of office. What are your thoughts on that . While the situation certainly escalated over the weekend and you had seen before that a number of democrats, commentators in the press, say that these were mostly Peaceful Demonstrations and any violence that was caused was caused by the presence in portland of the department of Homeland Security officers, by federal Law Enforcement that was irritating in exacerbating the situation in portland. Now what we have seen is violence has not only escalated to portland but it is escalated in places where you do not have a deployment of the department of Homeland Security officers. Its been spreading around these are clearly sort of anarchist forces trying to cause trouble anywhere they can. The situation in austin, we dont know exactly what happened but we know a man was Walking Around with a semiautomatic rifle and he ended up being killed by gunfire from someone with another gun. So this situation seems to have descended into more chaos over the weekend that cannot be correctly attributed to u. S. Law enforcement. Trace you bring up a good point, you bring up seattle in the seattle protesters were going after the seattle police. I want to put up this quote and she says, we support everyones First Amendment right for free speech and to gather and assemble in such a way. But what we saw today was not peaceful, it was not a peaceful demonstration at all. Many people were at risk. We are talking about seattle where they have vowed not to use tear teargas, and this was aimed at seattle police. That was an extraordinary and the police chief notes that the city council in seattle that had bands of Police Using Pepper Spray and other crowd control agents. So addressing residents and business owners, if one of these demonstrations happens, if it threatens your property, we are sorry, on your own. Theres nothing that we the police can do about it. A listen to the kansas city mayor Quentin Lucas on this and then we will get your response. If you listen to recent statements for myself, and we have all said that we are happy to work with federal agents and rhetoric scope. Quentin lewis saying, the whole thing is this is the president sort of storing the stuff up. I think we should really distinguish what he is talking about, what the president s and what the dhs have been talking about and sending an additional people to chicago for example, there are already a lot of fbi agents, dea agents, atf agents in chicago and assisting local police in solving crimes. Theres been talk about sending more federal agents and thats different from the crowd protests riots that weve been seeing in portland and now seattle. Trace if dhs shouldnt be involved in sending agents to places like portland which are really what dhs should be doing is focusing on cobit 19, focusing on the southern border. Is that a Fair Assessment in your estimation, byron . You know the department of Homeland Security was created after september 112 bring a lot of domestic security agencies together so dhs just does a lot of stuff. In portland, you have a federal courthouse under attack and theres already something called the federal protective services that is tasked with protecting federal monuments and federal properties and installations all around the country. Thats something that has to be done. They will attack to federal installation especially of courthouse which is basically symbolic of the rule of law. So thats something that somebody in the federal government has to protect, and right now that task has fallen to dhs. Trace its Chris Christie said, and we will get a response. They are particularly trim timid to deface and destroy the cities, then the president of the United States has to deal with it. I dont know whether its going to make sense politically or n not, and they worked on mike walk away from their own report, not to support peaceful protest but to violent riots. Trace hes not sure if it will benefit and politically but it needs to be done. Your last thought . I think is correct about that in the sense that someone has to do it. Any night that was a confrontation between rioters and Law Enforcement of the courthouse, Portland Police would race to a press release saying it wasnt us, we didnt have anything to do with it. So if you do have a local police force, and by that of course would mean that local government and elected officials. If we have them staying out of such a conflict than someone does have to protect thorough installations. Thank you sir. Now remembering the life of congressman john lewis, his body heading to the capitol today where he will become the first africanamerican to lie in state. And chad program is live with more details. 32 people have lain in state and on the list will be the first africanamerican to lie in state inside the rotunda. Jacob chestnut, the u. S. Capitol Police Officer and rosa parks lay in honor inside of the Capitol Rotunda, not instate, thats one level below. And Elijah Cummings who passed away last year he lay in state and the capital but in statuary hall. Emanuel cleaver, democratic representative from missouri talked about lewis last public appearance at black lives matter plaza in washington. This was his last a great display of power for righteousness and it was john lewis. Down there with the cane in his hand and it was the lion, ill be at the winter. Lewis will have lain in state and three capitals, and yesterday lewis made his final crossing at the Edmund Pettus bridge which of the site of blood a sunday where he was beaten by Alabama State troopers in 1965. The image is play sunday accelerated passage of the Voting Rights act. Reverentd jakes said lewis persd change. The epitome of our faith is decorated with the blood a struggle. Freedom is a bloodied business and it teaches us that freedom doesnt come easily, it comes at the price of bloodshed and confusion and controversy. They will escort lewis hearse around washington driving by the Lincoln Memorial and of the mlk memorial. He will arrive around the capital of 1 00 p. M. And law makers can only pay respects in small groups. Tonight, the public will be able to file by outside as they place lewis body on the east portico of the capital. At the capitol remains closed the public. Usually when someone passes away they say rest in peace but what theyve told me the past couple of days is that john lewis will rest in power. Julie youve been on the hill and covering updates, we want to hear some of your memories of congressman john lewis. Of the first thing that i think about was when you shake his hand, it was strong but there was a softness to it as if he was transferring home to you. It would put his hand on your shoulder and ask how you were doing and what you were up to. He made a point to speaking on o students on capitol hill. I taught a class for a number of years and he would always speak to my students and show a video tape about the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement. The other thing about john lew lewis, he is the only person ive discussed with marvel superheroes. When the black panther movie came out there was pieces written saying that john lewis was the original black superhero and to this day he remains the only person ive ever spoken about comic books with when it comes to a member of congress. Julie i love that. Chad program, thank you so much. We will have much more on this when Harris Faulkner and Chris Wallace anchor a very special edition of americas newsroom coming up right here at 11 00 a. M. Eastern. Stay tuned. Julie fox news alert, Senate Republicans are set to unveil the coronavirus really felt today after working with white house officials on the plane over the weekend. I democratic republicans are spurring over key issues in this potential package. Senator ted cruz slamming Speaker Pelosi over her proposal arguing their objective should be getting americans back to work. Objectives are shoveling cash at the problem and shutting america down and in particular, you look at the 3 trillion bill shes trying to push. Its just shoveling money to her friends and not actually solving the problem. Julie lets bring in jason chaffetz, former utah congressman and fox news contributor. Great to see you as always. The biggest point of contention here between republicans and democrats as the expiration of the enhanced Unemployment Benefits which began to go away this weekend. Pelosi as you just heard is pushing for that for trillion dollar bill, phase four if you will to get that 600 august for the benefits. Republicans argue that some americans actually make more from unemployment than they did in wages so you do you think this package will give americans an incentive to get back to work . Nancys pelosis direction on this is fundamentally wrong. Others have routinely pointed out, and unemployment is already totaled more than 3 trillion and senator cruz is absolutely right, this continues to shovel many of the problem but doesnt actually solve the problem. That they good point, however there are a lot of people that are reeling at home and trying to figure out how to make ends meet. They are also saving because as we are going to talk about later in the show, a lot of those people who cant afford rent could face eviction. What kind of argument would you say that would make as far as the democrats and trying to continue the stimulus . The stimulus package as we are putting it forward if you make 75,000 or less then you will probably get Something Like a 1200 check, which goes a long way to helping you to achieve that. There is trillions of dollars going out the door hear julie to suggest Everybody Needs an additional 600 and ive experienced this myself. Ive talked to a head nurse, and that was not the direction was not the direction it should go. Its just not going to pass. And that makes a huge difference in our government and some are estimated at that half of the senator is on the republican side of the aisle are probably going to vote against this package. We will go ahead and play back now. As president , i have a new name for him, mr. Make matters worse. He has made matters worse from the start. Delayed and denial, its a hoax. Its a miracle with all the rest. You got both sides arguing whos right and youve got nancy pelosi calling the president a name which is great. If so that millions of americans at home right now unable to put food on the table. How will this help americans in the middle . I dont think it does anything to solve the problem and it bans a few of the flames. And she didnt, and the real action will be in the senate, the white house chief of staff, mark meadows has been right there representing the white house and it looks like later today they will unveil this package. Thats probably the bill that will ultimately pass even though through so many of the republican senators will vote against it. Trace fox news alert, south texas feeling the wrath of hurricane hannah. Seattle looking to ban police from using some crowd control measures as dozens of officers are injured during protests over the weekend. The legal fallout is next. The president has to take action to federal properties and installations. He ought not have to, of course they have to defend their own property of the local mayor will not. This weekend because of this legislation the entire Police Department myself included will be taking this pepper spray off of my belt and putting a riot steak on there because thats what we are left with doing. Trace police chief cartman fast sounding off because of the citys ban on tear gas. The they have since blocked the law after the Justice Department set up a situation where there is very increased likelihood of Excessive Force being used. Andy mccarthy is a former assistant u. S. Attorney and fox news contributor. Andy, always good to see you. I guess with the judge is saying here is, these Police Officers only have so many tools in their arsenal and that you write in the foot of your fox news oped, or some federal law that legitimately trumps the state. There is nothing in the federal law that bars the city or state from enacting an ordinance that limits the kind of weaponry its own Police Forces using against its own citizens and the constitution does not make stupidity illegal. Im guessing you are not really on board with this lack of teargas use . I think the judge was not on board with it. Unfortunately, and he didnt really have a lot of leeway under federal law to ban the ordinance that made it illegal for the police to use these nonlethal methods. But the one out it looks like they had it is, since 2012 the seattle Police Department has been under a Consent Decree with the Justice Department that was entered into during the obama administration. In trumps Justice Department is very unlikely but i think creative and what they argued, was the whole point of the Consent Decree was to push back against unduly harsh policing and that if the ordinance went into effect, it would inevitably require the police to use lethal force rather than nonlethal force to quell the rioting and what we would be talking about today would be several dozen perhaps deaths rather than just serious injuries. Trace and we should know that 59 seattle Police Officers were injured over the weekend and you make a good point when you say in portland what you have is you have the state trying to tell the feds how to police and in seattle you have the feds trying to tell the state how to police. Thats exactly right. I really think looking at it, the only difference is in the seattle situation you do have this federal Consent Decree that seattle voluntarily entered into in 2012 which concedes to the feds some authority to supervise them. Although i dont think it gives them as much leeway as the judge thought. Trace and thats a thing, the big reason that police with a lot of these rights are happening. We talk to Police Officers all the time and they just feel like, nobody has their back. They are not going in and that they are not helping or doing the things they really want to do because they believe the bogle environment is that the politicians and the Police Chiefs no longer have their back and thats becoming a problem in cities across the country. Thats absolutely right. In policing, the nature of it, is in order to do it, you have to be able to use superior force in certain obvious situations. Not Excessive Force but superior force. If you need to suppress somebody who you are lawfully arresting or if you have to respond to violence, and what the police have to be worried about is, if they do their jobs wishes to use superior force when necessary, they could be prosecuted for assault. Obviously if you are going to criminalize policing you are going to get a lot less effective policing. Trace about 20 seconds left, will we see more types of these laws and ordinances because of the unrest going around the country . I sure hope not. I think the fact that you have this unrest and theres so much carnage involved hopefully that will make people say common sense is we would much rather have them using teargas then lethal methods because then we are talking about a real, real problem. Trace andy mccarthy, always good to see you. Breaking news into fox news right now, a Senior Administration official confirms to fox news that the National Security advisor, that man right there Robert Obrien now tested positive for the coronavirus. He now says he contracted the virus outside of the white house. He recently traveled to france to meet with president macron and he was also at a recent family gathering. Not saying either one of those is where he contracted it but we have now learned that the National Security advisor Robert Obrien has tested positive for coronavirus. Julie texas reaching a grim milestone surpassing 5,000 deaths from covid19. The death rate increasing with the state reporting with thousand in just the last six days, 1,000 deaths in six days. Meanwhile, one rural hospital forced to decide which patients can be saved and which ones have to be turned away, too sick to be treated. Casey stegall is live in dallas this morning with the latest. More on that rural hospital in a moment but first we want to start with some encouraging news and that is that the Overall State Health data here in texas is showing that the curve is beginning to flatten a little bit here. That is certainly some welcome news. Yesterday, texas reported about 5800 new cases which is the eighth day in a row that number was below 10,000 and much lower than the states alltime high of nearly 10,800 which was back on july 15th. Health officials are largely attribute a mess to better social distancing practices and increase use of masks. Governor abbotts issued a statewide mandate around the beginning of july. According to local leaders the total number of covid hospitalizations is also slowly declining in places around the state, especially in houston once considered to be texas epicenter for the virus. It is the ceo of houston methodist which is a major provider in the region. They were going up very steeply. Thankfully that curve event. Adit continued at that rate the world would be a very different place right now. With that said, new hot spots have emerged in recent weeks. Medical teams with the u. S. Navy are stationed there to help the overwhelm system and according to local reports, stark county texas only has one hospital and the county judge harris says that some doctors are having to make difficult decisions, sending some sick people home because there simply isnt enough staffing and equipment to handle them. So its safe to say that a vaccine cannot get here soon enough. As you know, today my dharna begins its Clinical Trials, about 30,000 Adult Volunteers around 100 u. S. Research facilities will be given the drug and studied. There has been some promise with it in the early Clinical Trials and the federal government says by the end of this year and the beginning of next year. Julie . Julie Casey Stegall in dallas. Trace election day is just over three months away and both candidates are now stepping up spending, particularly in must win battleground states. Julie big spending on the campaign trail with 99 days only to go until election day. A Presumptive Democratic nominee joe biden making a 14. 5 million ad buy in six key battleground states including pennsylvania and michigan. For turning down our request to appear on fox news sunday. Thats just one week after President Trumps interview aired on the show. Here is rnc chairwoman Ronna Mcdaniel earlier today. I will just say, i think the enthusiasm for the president is higher than it was in 2016. Ive seen it to our donations and i think biden has a huge enthusiasm issue. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee joins us now and hes also a fox news contributor. Hi, good to see you, mike. Good to see you, julie. Thanks for having me on. Julie we love having a conversation with the delay but thats technology today. So the president says that biden would be able to hold his own against a barrage of questions, is he right . He is absolutely right. Hes already shown he cant handle a zoom call and hes been unable to articulate the simplest things even when hes reading a teleprompter, he stumbles and bumbles, he simply not able to get his message across. The good news for bidens he doesnt have to right now. He can live in his basement and crank out a bunch of tv ads and his messaging is really about donald trump, its not about joe biden. Its interesting, what Ronna Mcdaniel said is 100 correct, there is huge enthusiasm for donald trump among his supporters. I really dont see anybody who is like gung ho for joe biden, they are just gung ho against donald trump. This election is about one thing, whether or not we should reelect donald trump, and thats the power of the rhetoric which has been offputting to some people, and certainly given the media. Julie well and not just selectively for picking certain media. Why would joe biden agree with the sit down on fox to prove the president wrong . What is the narrative hes creating by essentially refusing to sit down with a cable news channel doesnt necessarily have viewers who might be supporters of his . Absolutely, if you could communicate. Even a friendly one as has happened with charlamagne tha god, he gets a nice tongue bath, and he says something utterly ridiculous and his 15 minutes of interview, that is how you distance themselves. Thats accountable for his inability and unwillingness. And thats part of the reason that joe biden would say im safer, and thats a milliondollar ad buy, and in michigan, hes got this ad campaign where he spending tens of millions of dollars. Thats actually more effective. When it comes to joe biden. And secondly, with the media complicit in the whole effort to just keep biden hidden, even for such things as, does he really believe in defunding all across the map. But the good news for the president , 99 days, thats a long time in politics and things can change and i believe they will. Steve shapiro capture these moments including in selma where john lewis and hundreds of other protesters risked their lives to demand Voting Rights. Steve shapiro joins us this morning. Its so good to have you on, your work is incredible. When you found out that your 1963 picture of john lewis made the cover of time magazine, you cried. Thats true. I had the reaction, i really just cried. Trace we are watching picture on the righthand side of your screen, and he wrote saying this. In this picture you see that he is looking forward with an enormous amount of strength in terms of how he sees the future. As a picture of someone who knows what he is and does what he has to do with the rest of his life after this picture, and he did it. This was a fake moment. That someone who looked incredibly strong as a young man and i knew what his purpose was, he was on his way to a church to give a talk. And in that church they said training with the civil rights. But i saw that he was a determined person and just felt it looking at that picture for some reason. Its really hard to tell, some pictures emotionally affect you and sometimes you cant count the reason for that, it just happened then. Trace you are embedded in the early 60s in the Civil Rights Movement and you took some really compelling pictures of our reverend Martin Luther king along with john lewis. Do you have a favorite . Do you have a picture that you think is more compelling than others that strikes you the most when you look at your body of work . One of them is the start of the summer mark where you store the leaders, and that sort of a fierce look on his face. The other one marches in the rain which is a picture of what one particular civil rights work which is very strong. And of the other thing of course and i photographed his room. They were old styrofoam cups and his image came on behind the announcer. It became very strong to me in terms of everything, and still hovering over it. Trace steve shapiro, very talented man. Thank you sir, i appreciate it. Julie fox news alert from chicago where another deadly weekend of gun violence gripped the streets they are. More than 50 people mooted in dozens of shootings across the city leaving at least three people dead. When some 60 people were shot and ten were killed. And all scene in portland, people fighting with police on the 60th straight night of protests in portland, the biggest s so, so that since memorial day. He joins me now. Only two people were taken into custody overnight and it is surprising to hear such a small number. One person was shot on the 60th night of protest there and is there any end in sight to stopping the tension across the nation . I wish there was but unfortunately i dont believe there is anything or any end in sight at this immediate time. What happened 60 days ago, george floyd was killed at the hands of Police Officer and that started these demonstrations. Since then they have morphed into the left and the right, having their own agendas and they are coming out against federal agents out there. And its very unfortunate. President trump has decided to send federal agents into various cities. Julie, that is not going to wo work. The only the federal agency, and the criminal is just going to wait them out. Hears chat wealthy acting Homeland Security and secretary on what separates portland and protests in particular from others in u. S. Cities. Watch this. Whats going on in portland is a very different than any other city across the country. Thats anywhere from 20003000, upwards of 4,000 violent individuals. And they are coming armed with rocks and commercial grade fireworks and eliciting that violence and targeting their violence on federal courthouse and federal Law Enforcement officers. And batons and tasers and pepper spray so what can Law Enforcement do the to get this under control and when the lake get the reins to actually have power to do so. First of all, the control of this kind of situation, its going to have to occur within the city. The city and the state leaders of any city are going to have to take charge. Federal agents are not going to be able to do the job. So what will have to happen and the federal government cannot do it, julie, and thats unfortunate that they cannot do it. Julie so then there are mirrors and he is sitting and encouraging these protests to be peaceful. And these protesters that get arrested, there are more that are probably breaking the law asked if they are going with Police Officers using violence. Shouldnt the penalty be increased and they basically get a slap on the wrist and our right back out there tomorrow. I think youre right that the penalty in and of itself should be increased. But let me be clear here. There is autonomy between protesters who are peacefully protesting and individuals who are not, and an end that will have to take place today in the community, the fbi agents are not going to be able to take control. President trump had been there for three years. We are showing video in seattle and we talked about portland and earlier we spoke about chicago, and some 51 deaths over the weekend or shootings. Weve got the mayor doesnt want the fries help and they say if the fed step in and it will only get worse. Im not sure i can get much more worse than this. And even if its just temporary, it you make some kind of change and its worth a try. And these people in the community is that i have kind of situation, they dont give a damn whether its local police, they want change in the community. The problem is that you send President Trump out to sean hannity, how long are you able to keep those people there. So again this will have to be something thats going to have to be solved between these mayors, governors and they stay in these communities. And i dont think thats what the president has in mind. For those mayors that seem to be time Law Enforcement behind their back empowering Law Enforcement would potentially put this to an end. Ted williams, great to have you on as always. Thank you. My pleasure. He will tour a biotech facility. The president wanted in 2016 but is trailing joe biden there in recent polls. Kristin fisher live in morrisville North Carolina. Hey, teresa. Trace white house Economic Advisor larry kudlow on what to expect when republicans reveal their new Coronavirus Relief bill today as millions of americans struggle to make rent and businesses try to stay afloat during the pandemic. And not to give you a pay raise and unemployment, we got to fix that. Figuring out 70 of somebodys wages, people dont all make a salary, maybe they do. I could take a while to get that thing settled out. What do you think. You better figure something out. People are hunkering down inside their homes and a lot of question marks and a lot of fear. An entire nation shutdown and, the rest of our reservations across the country were down 99 . It was simplistic and it was too much. 600 bucks on top of what i normally get, over 60 of the country was making more than it would have me come back to work. And, particularly efforts to help Small Businesses. I do think they will come up with some sort of a solution that will be a compromise. I will say i think the idea of 70 of what you would have normally have made, it can be a tough one particularly in states where the unemployment pay is not that much anyway. Im thinking 200 or 300 will be the ultimate number there. And its not just regular folks on these initial jobless claims we are seeing continuing claims of 16 million, but another 14 million on a special pandemic unemployment assistance that was created just in time for this pandemic for people who didnt qualify otherwise for unemployment. Trace they say the 1200 will begin there and the eviction band will be in there, does he know it will be and they are or what is he projecting what he believes might happen . He knows thats going to be in there. Theres no way that either party would say no to 1200 directly in peoples accounts, that right there would be a phenomenal impact. Jpmorgan did an exhaustive study on all of this a couple weeks ago and a lot of that money will go back into the economy. Weve seen a tremendous record rebound in things like retail sales and even this morning we had to Business Investments much higher than anticipated. The ultimate vshaped recovery back to 2007 numbers. So we got something going on here and its been interrupted by a lot of the states have had to close down. I love the idea of a hundred billion dollars in there for schools to reopen, lets make them safe but get the kids back to work, get the kids back in school and parents back to work. Hes confident that thats going to be in there and im pretty sure it will be. Trace what about the eviction band come here a couple sides of the story on this point. They are saying the whole thing is you dont want to have people kicked out of their houses but at the same time you have all this debt building up on these people that at some point in time, they have to figure out a way to handle. So its either now or later that its going to be a problem. Your thoughts on that . Although i think we all might agree it could be better later. As a guide for the economy and i think we would all agree that our debt to gdp, over 100 of gdp is mindboggling. Its essentially 100 years without that sort of moratorium, it would be an unmitigated disaster for too many americans. They would otherwise be at work. They would be something completely different. I think the ideas would make it through this. And reignite the economy and then people start to catch up on these bills. Trace hold tight. 1,000,000,000,002,000,000,000,00 0. I think it will be Something Like 1. 4 or 1. 5 and that will be something in between there. They survived to the degree that we have. No one thought we could pull this off, because of softness. The Trump Administration acted so quickly, the Federal Reserve acted so quickly, if you remember the Great Recession and that did not happen, the pain lingered for a long time and we are trying to mitigate that now. Julie my new phase in the search for a Coronavirus Vaccine as cases keep spiking across the country. Florida and other sun belt states are the new hot spots. Plus accusations are flying as the 2020 campaign enters a critical phase next, where the race is heading. Experience amazing at your lexus dealer. 99 days until the election and with joe biden ahead and keep battleground polls they may need to make some changes. Mary anne marsh is a former Senior Advisor to john kerry, thank you both for coming on this morning. Less than 100 days from the election, President Trump might be looking at those poles and he might not, and there is still plenty of time nonetheless to turn this around, what does each campaign need to do starting with President Trumps campaign. President trump has to continue the good week he had last week and helping message to americans that we need to be wearing our masks, that we are working on a vaccine, that every available resource that the federal government is going to help us get through the covert problem underlying theme here because of the elite and the media and thats the first time they get to respond to that. Julie joe biden has it launched a new ad blitz and the Campaign Says its going to spend more than 14 and a half Million Dollars in the election battleground states. So how is biden faring with seniors . Where you spend your time and where you spend your money tells you about anything out of the strategy and thats certainly true in this case. Thats only 44 days until 31 states are early voting. And we are starting to come to joe biden. If joe biden wins seniors and suburban women, its game over. The reason women are coming to joe bidens covid19. Donald trump has finally realized that covid19 the number one issue qualifies 21 in everyones mind, at which is donald trump didnt deal with it. Joe biden now has every advantage and every poll and every battleground state. To catch up to donald trump on that, you can see exactly where they are spending their time. Trump in North Carolina today, biden spending money, but the senior boats are up for grabs and joe biden has a great chance to win it. Julie he says it matters how you spend your time and how you spend it. Some argue that joe biden is spending his time at home and he does have these ads targeting battleground states. The question then is david, does he continue to stay more at home and let the ads do the talking or does he eventually hit the campaign trail more fiercely in 99 days. The boerne stayathome strategy that biden had going on, and biting can answer the questions. Biden cant get through a speech with a coherent thought. We get this child care message saying everybody that is three or four years old is going to get child care but yet he wouldnt answer any questions like what covid guidelines are going to be followed. Lets talk about seniors for a second. As more and more seniors remember that biden wants to take care of their private insurance with 66 of seniors have and as they continue to see this extreme Progressive Agenda that biden is embracing, it makes voters as eight they focus on their vote in these 40 some days when they actually start casting votes. And as he uses the resources of federal government to make sure vaccine is brought on, and they keep socially distance. Dont be out if you are in a highrisk category. That ultimately becomes a winning message. Julie what about bidens message of defunding the police . Obviously the spike in violence is just going up after months of protests across the country. And thats a president ial candidate that defines the Police Rhetoric that we are hearing across the country. Is that a good thing for biden to do . We said that in every interview as recently as two days ago. How you spend your money in terms of Police Reform makes a big difference. Can you spend that money preventing crimes, and that used to be very communitybased relationship that people had with a Police Department. Now its a very adversarial and militarized. And i think the fact that donald trump is using the militia, and those are political reasons, they are so afraid of covid19 of the fact that donald trump waited for months too late to do anything about it than they are about any protests. So thats the miscalculation about donald trump and thats a fact about joe biden. Julie and so the facts are that joe biden does not want to defund but he wants to reallocate funds. The problem with that is the states and cities there are cities like new york city for example where their funds of six to 9 were cut by a Million Dollars one right now these Police Officers such as the nypd need this money more than ever. Is this the time to reallocate funds for Law Enforcements that are fighting tooth and nail . There was a time when marianne and democrats would argue that any dollar taken away from a Government Agency or Government Entity was a cut. We heard that all through the 90s in the 2000s as republicans try to reprioritize were spending went. Now we hear we will take money from police, its the double talk and why joe biden doesnt want to answer questions because this is not rational, there is not common sense to that and its particularly what happens then more parole officers deal more the burden and its local city police that deals more of the burden. Its quite the losing message for biden. And, in the white house, senate and house of the fair and free election. One way to empower police certainly would not be taking money away which would potentially lead to further violence some would argue but im no expert. Marianne, thank you. Thank you so much. Coronavirus infections are on the rise across much of the u. S. Especially in sun belt states that top new york and cases. But there is new hope. Researchers in the university of miami about to begin phase three trials for a covid19 and Vice President pence scheduled to visit the university today. Phil keating is live in with more. Good morning, teresa. Thats when the Vice President will take part in a roundtable with researchers and doctors. Another 21,000 new coronavirus cases added in the state over the weekend and it now florida has surpassed new york after only california in the total number of cases in the pandemic. The university of miamis Miller School of medicine is renowned internationally for its research as well as what it has done in the past, its really respected for the work it did on aids and hiv. Well, the task now is participating with the National Institutes of health and expediting a Coronavirus Vaccine. Today my darin utley biotech firm begins phase three of its promising vaccine trial which will entail 30,000 volunteers nationwide pulling up their sleeves and getting a shot all to see what happens. Obviously the hope is to get a vaccine ready faster than perhaps medical history which is why Vice President pence is coming today to the heart of how floridas covid epicenter to meet with doctors and researchers for operation warp speed. In march 45 volunteers were injected with possible vaccine who developed neutralizing antibodies in their bloodstream. Volunteers were younger adults and although more than half ended up with flulike symptoms like fever the side effects only last about a day. Florida only has about 423 cases of the virus and with 5700 fatalities. Miami has now dedicated about 40 cops to enforce the citys mask mandate which comes with a 100 citation for being barefaced. The governor has not ordered mass to be worn statewide and wants all schools to be open to at least give parents that option next month also today in the state of florida was to begin at two at a drill for the High School Football teams as well as all of the other practices for other fall sports which has been delayed until august 24th. If they are the anchoring, and hear us, last hour, i spoke to a man named steve shapiro. He took the iconic picture and 63, and he says he took the picture and he was a very compelling man. Those lives were changed forever by either marching with him or returning to the Edmund Pettus bridge years ago. On one of those people with steve scalise, the House Minority whip. He joined me yesterday, and chris, i think youll appreciate this. We talked about one of those americans that were reflected on with the vision and the dream was for our nation way back to the founders, and that was that weve become a more Perfect Union. Not perfect but more perfect with freedoms for everybody. To lie in state at the Capitol Rotunda i think is truly significant. In a way, its astonishing that here we are in the year 2020 and he is the first africanamerican to lie and stayed in the Capitol Rotunda. Now i year or so ago, he lay in state in the capital, but in the statuary hall, not the rotunda. And rosa parks, some people are thinking about the woman who obviously was the key points, the linchpin in the whole buffing fight in alabama back in the 1950s. Its a slightly lower designation, and he will got his due respect here is the first africanamerican to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda and i just want to reflect back on what harris said. Lewis was a fierce fighter for what we believed in, and over the course of the next hour, they talk about all that john lewis kirk and lots of friends on capitol hill on both sides of the aisle and the fact that steve scalise, the House Minority whip was a pretty fierce republican in his own right would reflect so fondly about john lewis talking about the bridges that lewis built. Julie a live look now at joint base andrews where we are awaiting the arrival of the civil rights icon, the congressman john lewis. His casket will head to the capitol where he will lie in state inside of the rotunda. We begin another day honoring his life and legacy, this time quite different as he heads to the place where many people know him in recent decades. By the way the family plane is on the ground and they are getting ready to get set. Good morning. Im Chris Wallace. Im Harris Faulkner and you are watching a special the addition of americas newsroom. Congressman john lewis is about to take his final journey to capitol hill but there have been plenty of stops along the way. At sites that played an important parts in his life. Yesterday i was with you as his casket crossed the Edmund Pettus bridge. And that became known as what a sunday. A key event for Voting Rights for black americans. But today it is all about the fight for black americans that john lewis took to the Nations Capital, and he really broke into the National Consciousness back in 1963 during that famous march on washington. Along with Martin Luther king. At that time and he was very young and very fresh. Lets turn it down a little bit, thats going to be one of the things that we see as the procession goes from Andrews Air Force base after lewis plane lands and goes to a number of case sites in washington. Thats where the 1963 speech was held. After the hearse arrived at the capitol, there will be a ceremony inside of the rotunda for members of congress, the public will then get to pay their respects at a viewing outside and thats one of the reasons that this event was taking place outside, because of the coronavirus pandemic. This is a safety precaution and is very times. Harris weve seen it, at the events that were held outside even along the Edmund Pettis bridge. There were coordinating it on the ground, and the single driver on that case that held the casket of john lewis. And this is too. The United States Capitol Building is what you are taking a live look at now, and chris mentioned this, eight tribute reserve to the lives of the most prominent and distinguished statesman and military leaders. That would be the First American inside of the actual u. S. Rotunda. Congressional correspondent chad pergram joins us now live from the hill. Its been a very somber day of mourning, only 32 persons have lain in state inside the u. S. Capitol and we have just been told in the past few minutes, House Speaker nancy pelosi, her motorcade has a arrived at joint base andrews. There are two planes, the owner guard will escort the body inside of the Capitol Rotunda. The kata full which is a wooden platform built for president lincolns funeral, and they have basically used it fort the casket on top of that. Here is his friend, a democratic senator from missouri. There is the sentiment in which all of us are feeling pain, but some joy. John was the inspiration for everybody else. Lewis body passed the Edmund Pettus bridge, and lewis body will soon arrive. When it comes to the capital they will escort lewis body around washington and the motor cable passed by the Lincoln Memorial. He was a nice a speaker to march on washington in 1965 and the motorcade will drive by the national memorial. Marcia fudge says lewis never became cynical despite the anger he faced. But that is hard. Its hard for me and i imagine its hard for you. Congressman John Robert Lewis was more than an icon. And i will miss him dearly. Things will look different here at the capital and limit how many people can go into the Capitol Rotunda and how many lawmakers can file by at any given time and then they will bring his body out on the east portico here. This is where they use to swear in president s and having operations on the public will file by later today and tomorrow. Vice president pence and Vice President biden are expected to show up later today. I was told however that even some of the Capital Health officials were concerned about having people come outside for this memorial, that was something they are very worried about and thats why they move things outside. Back to you, chris and harris. Chris thank you chad pergram. You can see in the background of the plane, its a c32 government plane thats been taxiing around at joint base andrews. If you can see it just there in the distance and that is the plane carrying the remains of the late congressman john lewis. This will be an affair of state as we said, john lewis will be lying in state, the first africanamerican inside of the capital and its also an affair of the heart. Because john lewis was beloved, and you cant say that about many people in washington. He served 34 years in congress. If you wanted a sense of how beloved he was, when they had a moment of silence earlier last week inside the house, nancy pelosi was in the speakers chair up in the front of the house chamber. She was not very successfully Holding Back Tears as she loved john lewis and had a very close connection to him. And the fact that the speaker has come out to joint base andrews to meet his remains and be there with the family as his casket is taken off this government plane, then she is going to leave and head back to the capital so she can be there when he is brought into the capital, they there for the reception around 1 00 today. But right now not only the speaker about some 46 members of the official party, family and friends, as well as current members well i guess no longer, but members of the congressmans staff until his passing away this weekend as well as former members. And over those 30 or 40 years there were dozens if not hundreds of people who worked for don on the list on capitol hill. One of the things about the congressman, he was a fierce fighter for the causes he believed in especially civil rights, not just for africanamericans but civil rights for women and civil rights for the lgbtq community. Having said that he was also a very gentle man, almost a shy man, and those of us who were fortunate enough to spend some time with him, you couldnt help but admire him. Not only for the accomplishments and his life, but his demeanor. There are the two of us back in 2015. On the 50th anniversary of body sunday that day you come commemorated at the edmund edmud pettis bridge, he was beaten by an Alabama State trooper. One of the things that was so moving to me was yesterday as that carriage was brought over the bridge carrying his remains, the descendants, the Alabama State troopers were erect at attention and saluting the late congressman john lewis which is just one in indication of how the country has come. Harris so we are watching the plane that is carrying the casket of john lewis. I want to talk a little bit about the family today. You see in the bottom right corner of the screen, those closest to john lewis, there were just seven walking across a bridge and then the eighth person pulling that caisson yesterday. Imagine their journey right now. They shared a journey with john lewis that belonged to the world and certainly belonged to america. As chris was saying, it wasnt just for africanamericans, it wasnt just for women, it was for every american, everyone of us, to have a more Perfect Union that john lewis dedicated his whole life. So as we see him i grew up military so when you see a government plane pull up and you see the day that is about to unfold, you completely understand the meaning of service in this country. And its what makes us great, because we decide one american after another to dedicate ourselves to making the country better. This is part of that journey that we take together. Chris had mentioned a few people and i want to call them out, im not going to read 46 family and friends obviously but we should mention that the congressmans only son john miles lewis a accompanied by his friend latasha books, three siblings of sam lewis, henry grant lewis and rosa tyners sisterinlaw, and a host of nieces and nephews, all of them will be in concert here. There plane arrived moments before john lewis is playing and so as they pull into place here this will be a very quiet moment at joint base andrews. Then, we will see them get into a black executive minibus and it will follow the hearse and make some stops, the way that chris had talked about it. And the first place will be that mlk memorial. Lewis wrote a lot about his friendship with dr. King, he was just 18 the first time he heard those words. The boy from troy. Chris . Chris harris, as we wait for john lewis is remains to be taken off that government plane, lets bring in senator tim scott, republican from South Carolina who will take part later this afternoon and that ceremony at the capital. Senator scott, thank you so much for joining us. One of the things i want to talk about is the fact that as much as john lewis fought for his causes, he was bigger than the partisan divide that we say. You are a republican and he was a democrat. Talk about what unifies you and what if anything divided you . Thank you chris, and good morning. Its a somber day, a sad day and a reflection on how much our nation has changed and what role john lewis played in that change. The things that i remember about john lewis and his fight for equality includes financial literacy. This is an area where he and i both see the light from the same place. The light comes in for the future as we prepare our next generation to be leaders in the financial realm and he was passionate about that. He was certainly passionate about all civil rights but he was very passionate about financial literacy. Very passionate about having equality and Economic Opportunity throughout the nation for all people. I loved his heart. When i first became a congressman he was one of the first to invite me and sat me down as if he should foreshadow the future. And that was a strange beast in the row role of congress and he was very clear on his advice not to but the challenges of life and that would impact how i saw other people that you only saw through the eyes of love. That was a great lesson at the time, i didnt know how much i would need those words as i would spend the next several years reflecting on how powerful his words have been in my life, and frankly in my first chapter of the book, i talked about john lewis and thats concept of not growing bitter in life but getting better. But having reflected on his life, its so hard to do. And thats a kind of trouble it makes it a better place. We are watching the plane, and they are getting ready to take the casket of john lewis off the plane at joint base andrews so that will be up on the screen as you and i talk. What does it mean senator forge on the list to come back to washington, d. C. , particularly at a time when the hill is such a divided place. And he worked there so maybe its always not divided but from the lay persons perspective, we seem to have not gone forward in that sense of bringing people together on the hill. Or maybe going backwards. Theres a polarizing factor its a Global Pandemic and global and unrest. And thats a lot of unrest that we havent seen in 50 years. We see a hero going home, we see not only and we can cast our cares upon the lord, that suggested that things will get better, if we apply that type of force that makes change inevitable. It was actually a force of peace, harder to find but easier to stop in the midst of the chaos. John lewis spoke the words of peace and he lives the life of action and the combination is what we need now more than ever. That bridges the polarized environment in washington, d. C. , by looking for common ground. Its by not questioning the intentions and motivations of those who are in a different position than you are. And no matter how much you disagree, but wherever you do agree, come to the table and work it out. A letter has been set up at the rear of the plane, some members of the lewis party are exiting that area but the flag draped coffin of congressman lewis has not yet been taken off of that government plane. You know, as we have been waiting for this, keep thinking back to so many of the fascinating stories about john lewis colorful career. He came to washington as a newly elected member of congress from atlanta, and he fought for a vacant seat in the georgia congressional delegation from atlanta in 1986. He was running against julian bonds who was another civil rights leader and i think it was fair to say, i think congressman lewis would forgive me saying that julian bonds was more charismatic, more appealing, but are spoken and better looking, and was seen as almost certain to be the winner in that contest between these two civil rights icons. They would become members of the atlanta district from 1987 until his passing away in the last week. John lewis certainly serves the people of his district very well. We are waiting for the ceremony to take place there at joint base andrews. One thing we need to point out, nancy pelosi, the speaker of the house has come out there to receive the coffin and so have members of lewis family, friends, current and former congressional district. It is hot as the blazes in d. C. Today, the heat index is over 100 degrees, but there they are on the tarmac at joint base andrews waiting for lewis is coffin to be taken off the plane and proceed in the motorcade into washington and some of the key points in the list is life washington. It will be an interesting and very moving day but it isnt starting exactly on time, harris. Harris well, i think we will forgive the family and any delay here because this process is never easy. And we are honored to be here purchased for it to begin. They are just a few minutes off schedule as chris points out, but i can tell you that this is a lot to pull together today. And it, they will welcome this plane that is on the ground and you also have the joint base andrews base commander which is there. This is very much about them today before he was a congressperson, and how much of a fighter he was to begin with, and what that was like. He was a man who sat with his hands in his pocket while prejudice and hate met him on the bridge in selma, alabama, and then that became violent against him. The cracked skull that he survived. But he never changed. He kept his hands in his pockets. There are pictures of him with his arms behind him being carted away and all of that is about service to the nation that he truly loved. While they ready this process, we have texas congressman al green standing by and im going to ask our team if he is ready to go. Congressman, are you with me . I am with you, thank you. Harris thank you so much. Thats turning back to washington, d. C. , right now for one final time. Police and my sympathies and condolences to family members, friends, all who loved him and miss him at of course i miss him as well. Thank you for the opportunity to be on. Let me reflect for just a moment. The honorable john lewis was born at a time when he could buy a hat and but couldnt write on. He had to go to colored water fountains, he had to go to the back door to get his food at restaurants. He could not sit in the front of the bus, the back of the bus. He was the son of sharecroppers, but isnt it wonderful that we live in a country to do what we did not allow the times to define you. He decided to change the times that he lived in, and he became the sermon that he preached. He talked and preached peace and nonviolence that he lived it, and it made all the difference for so many people in the world. Today a person who is a son of the segregated south will be honored. He will lie and state and the rotunda of the capital. Thats a model thing to see taken place. And that we will remember him for the notion that one person and not give up, not give in and make a difference in the lives of all persons and i love him dearly. Harris congressman greene, quick before we let you go, what words have been spoken on the hill this week that really stood out to you. I talked to tim scotts moments ago and he blessed us with his perspective and you have just now as well. Are people talking about him . Of course. He is the talk of the hill. He made such a difference in the lives of people on the floor of the house that he would obviously be a person that we would all want to Say Something positive about. But in quiet conversations, persons are talking about him. He made a difference. Let me share this with you. Its important to note that many pieces of legislation passed because he voted for the legislation. He loves the true north for righteousness, the moral compass of the congress. I like to think of him as the moral compass, and many times people would ask where was john lewis . We knew that if he took a position and we joined him, we were on solid ground and on the right side of history and it would make a difference. So yes, people are talking about the difference that he made and lets hope that one other person would be remembered today and that is that young child that was there at the services at the university. When she said its up to us now to carry on his legacy. It would make my heart warm because it says that the torch is being passed to a new generation of leadership. Chris congressman, its Chris Wallace here. I want to talk to you about this issue of nonviolence because it certainly is the principle that defines john lewis his life. He was one of the original freedom writers back in 1961 who got on buses and went from city to city because it was illegal for africanamericans to be on the same bus with rights traveling, and he would get to a Greyhound Bus station and of local authorities or local ruffians would bash his head in but of course there was the march on washington. There was the bloodiest sunday, where he got his head cracked for just wanting to walk across the bridge. He said 80 of the people were africanamerican and there was not a single registered africanamerican and the entire county. In many places they are not violent, and i wonder what you think john lewis would have as a tactic and the morality of violent protests that we are seeing in a lot of places around the country right now. While he was incarcerated for protesting but it was not for being destructive. We were being disruptive, and and we must engage in peaceful protest. We he shared with me it was the only way to expose the weaknesses in the system. He felt that what he did on the open pettus bridge expose something in the system and and he would not, not, i agree with a violence that was taking place. And he went out achieving peace in his peaceful way. And those persons who are doing this, quite frankly, and then we violated the law and we suffer the consequences. We tried to do it in a very peaceful way, and it makes a point not to destroy property. It we were not about that, and he was not about that. Not those who are disruptive. Congressman green, we are seeing a couple of things as this procedure has moved forward now and we see procedure because its got a very military feel. Its the texture of that and its about service. You saw the color guard on the tarmac there and i mentioned that other members who she is joined by, joint base andrews and you see the track at the bottom of the screen pulling up. Congressman karina, we appreciate your being with us today and getting us set for this big moment as john the list goes home on his journey and lost into washington, d. C. Thank you very much. All right, we want to keep our eyes on the screen now, this is important, this is why we are here. We are perch for this moment in history and it is a significant one. You heard congressman green, the focus today being so much on what ties us together as american citizens. That was perforated by violence and certainly ushered in a sunnier day through those overcast skies. By love and ushering in more love. Thats when the nation really needed to hear that. As congressman green was speaking it made me think. Thats the opposite of what we are seeing in some American City streets. We can we all take a moment to remind ourselves as americans that to get to that as tim scott said it, not better, but better plays and its going to take the highest knowledge and highest performance of all of us believing that we can do better. Chris you know harris, its so interesting because if you look between 1960 and 1966 estimates are that john lewis was arrested 40 times. And they used to go into lunchrooms and sit at the counter and asked to be served. Just as a human being. That was against the law and police would come in and take them off their stools of the lunch counter and take them to jail because they had dared to go to a white only lunch counter and ask for food. As i said it, he was one of the original 13 freedom writers and he would be arrested or beaten because he would get on a bus with white people and go across the state line and interstate travel was illegal for africanamericans to ride along with lights. Obviously he had his head beaten then for crossing the bridge, the Edmund Pettus bridge as you so eloquently described yesterday, in 1965 on body sunday. March 7th 1965. Simply because a group of africanamericans wanted to march from selma, alabama, where there wasnt a single registered africanamerican person, to montgomery, alabama, the state capital, oppressed for the right to register to vote. So that was how they broke the law, and as you say, as you point out, it wasnt for violence or destroying property. It wasnt for attacking Law Enforcement officers, it was simply for the fact that they wanted to be able to eat at a lunch counter or ride in a bus, or vote as an american. Harris i want to point something out. I bring my own experience to this as a military dependent and having seen so many arrivals and ceremonies on tarmacs growing up, and i was also born before that bridge walk. It was told to me my whole life. That was this connection point between our leaders on capitol hill and those in the military and that idea that yokes us together in his service. Now we have mentor like many former and active, who both are still serving through the guard and other entities right now and how important that military service both past and present on those leaders on the hill is to our country. I see the United States of america on that plane and you see the contingent of people that are moving toward where they will offload the casket of congressman john lewis. I mentioned the joint base Andrews Commander was there but also the wider team of military personnel i would imagine under his direction are assisting those to be here with john lewis on his final journey to washington, d. C. Thats important at this point and the role that our military has played stands out to me. For africanamericans in the 1960s and 70s they gave their lives and livelihoods and change the arc of their journey if you will like my own father who served at a time when it was difficult and sometimes dangerous to be a black man in america. He so loved this country and still does to this day, what it is based upon. Just visually seeing the connection between military today and the service of this particular civil rights icon stands out to me. Its about promise and having a bigger vision about where we can get. Chris absolutely. I think that there are two sides that today and this whole week, the celebration of john lewis his life is all about. On one hand it is a celebration of how far we can, as a country and, the basic rights that john lewis fought for in the early 60s, and setting up a lunch counter, we have come so far. On the other hand, that was the last person to say lets celebrate what weve accomplished. Thats the plain that receives a casket of john the list. When i interviewed him back in 2016, he said we are on our way and that there will not be any turning back. In 2017 he is that our struggle was not the struggle of the day, the week, the month for the year, it was the struggle of the lifetime. And lets listen now to the sights and sounds as the honor guard receives the casket of john the listen puts it in the hearse to begin the procession to washington. [ambient sounds] present arms. She [ambient sounds] harris congressman john melissa is about to head on one last turn into washington, d. C. You saw him move along the tarmac and this begins a several hour journey that will start today. You see his family getting into that many of us taxi and they will follow the hearse. This will take a few minutes and then we are told he will be going to the u. S. Capital and there will be a ceremony they are led by the speaker of the house. So there will be some events along the way for the rest of the day. But for now we are going to pull away and take a quick break and just let you know that it takes about 30 minutes if they stop the traffic and we are told to anticipate that authorities along this route from joint base andrews to the United States capital will somehow be guided to cut down on the traffic along this route and that will leave us with about 30 minutes of travel time with this motorcade. Lets take a quick break away from our remembering of john the lists, special headed to d. C. The va streamline refi lets you shortcut the refinance process. Chris and we are back now with our continuing coverage of the nation honoring the late congressman, john lewis. As you can see, we are still at joint base andrews. The hearse is there carrying john lewis remains. You can see what a young, vibrant man he was there in the lower righthand corner. Just 23 when he spoke at the 1963 march on washington, and he was the person who spoke immediately before Martin Luther king, which was a pretty tough spot in the schedule, in Martin Luther kings legendary i have a dream speech. Lets bring in donna brazile, former interim director of the national committee. Donna, your thoughts as he watched the nation honoring a man who was, as i said, 40 times he was arrested between 1960 and 1966, and now passing away at age 80, he is an american hero. Indeed he is, chris. You know, i got to meet mr. Lewis back in the early 1980s, working on the efforts to make Martin Luther kings birthday a national holiday. Also serving as the student mobilization director for the historic 1963 march on washington. The man we honor today, a humble man, a courageous man. He was also kind and decent. I also got to know mr. Lewis as a congressional staffer while i was now on his personal staff, mr. Lewis often invited me over. He was a terrific lawmaker, serving on the house ways and means committee. He enjoyed his work in congress, he sponsored and cosponsored legislation, as congressman greene mentioned. That often made to the floor. Of course, he would always go on the house floor to share his views. In the last couple of weeks, mr. Lewis, while fighting cancer, he continued to produce legislation to help foster children, to help those in the juvenile justice system. His legislation often focused on education. Of course, health care, because he was on that committee. Making sure that our tax system was equal. The man we are honoring today indeed was a great man, and i have so many wonderful stories and just times that i spend with mr. Lewis, learning from mr. Lewis, and, of course, having fun. Because john lewis was also a very good, funny guy. He loved to laugh. And i hope we can feel chris donna, we are running out of time and this hour, and i want to bring in juan williams. You can see the hearse carrying the remains of john lewis. I dont want to cut you off, so give me short answers here, juan. You are a fox news political analyst, and particularly the author of eyes on the prize the legendary piece of work he did about the Civil Rights Movement from the mid 50s to the mid60s. We have a few minutes here. Put in context the role that john lewis played in the fight in the accompaniment of civil rights in this country. Well, its an epic role. At the central role to all that we are today, chris. You know, what comes to my mind is, you remember, blood he sunday happened march 7th. Within a week or so, president johnson is giving a speech to a joint session of congress, and in that speech he says, we shall overcome. And it brought tears to Martin Luther king jr. s eyes. It moved john lewis emotionally. He felt that he had, again, in keeping with your question, made a single contribution. Just to pick up on one president johnson said, he went on to say its not what he then called negroes shall overcome. White and black have to overcome the crippling legacy of bigotry and injustice. To sit here with you and donna and watch this, to see the American People give such pomp and circumstance to this man at this moment, it is just striking what a journey it has been from the freedom rides, from the Edmund Pettus bridge, from speaking at the march on washington as an outsider, to now being an honored insider. That is john lewis. Chris and, we should point out to give people a sense because you and i are old and after member some of this. Me, particularly. A lot of people that im sure are watching are not. One of the things, or two of the things of the Voting Rights act of 1965 did, blood he sunday was on march 7th. By august, they passed the act. It ended the literacy test, which was a way to keep a lot of africanamericans from being able to register to vote, and also it replaced local registrars who would find other ways, with federal registrars. As i said, where selma was, 80 africanamerican, there wasnt a single africanamerican who has registered to vote because the systems in alabama prevented that. And lets not forget chris juan, im sorry, we are going to be back for coverage, but we are flat out of time. And thank you both, donna and juan. Our coverage continues ahead on fox news channel, and Harris Faulkner is back with outnumbered right now. Harris melissa protests fr Racial Justice turning violent in some cities across the country on the 60th street night of unrest in portland, oregon. Police responding to reports of gunfire at a park, and finding a bag of rifle ammunition and molotov cocktails in the area. Senator tom cotton says outsiders are hijacking the protests, and causing the violence. Theres no question that they are professional instigators and agitators on the streets in portland who are trying to stir up violence. It is a sad situation that people who w t
