We want to take you to North Carolina because the sitting manager in oak island where two teenagers were attacked by sharks over the weekened is now speaking. Lets listen in. Another call came in for similar injury at the 55th street beach access that incident involved a 16yearold male. The Fire Department crew responded to that call as well. When they arrived on scene the 16yearold victims friend had already begun life saving treatment on the beach. Oak Island Police department and oak island water rescue responded to the second call. Both victims were reported about to yards offshore in waist deepwater. Both of victims were transported by Butler County ems to a landing sown and airlifted to Hanover Regional Medical Center with lifethreatening injuries. As of last night both victims were out of surgery and in stable condition. Thank you chief. Now ems director bob watts will relate his agencys role and ongoing and report on the victims as well. Thank you. Just to elaborate a little bit more on the injuries from yesterday, the first patient 13yearold female, she had injuries to her left upper extremity as well as her left lower extremity. The second patient, the 16yearold male had a pretty significant injury to his left upper extremity. Both patients were potentially lifethreatening injuries were airlifted to the Trauma Center at Hanover Regional Medical Center. As mr. Anselmo indicated they were are both out of surgery and in stable condition this morning but honestly they have a really long road ahead. The keys to the success yesterday was the fact that our bystanders on the beach with both of these patients did very quick first aid the correct way. We had very Quick Response from our 911 center who assisted with bleeding control over the phone and things like that. And our firstresponders were very quick as well. Also, the the patients were transported to directly to the Trauma Center. Certainly that makes a big difference as well. Thank you, director watts. Chair john ingram is here as well. He will talk a little it about actions taken bit Sheriffs Department immediately after the incident and ongoing actions the next couple of days. The Sheriffs Office role is basically of that support to the town of oak island by means of our helicopter and our boats. We are utilizing those resources to help monitor the coastline and watch for any sightings of sharks and if that does occur we will report to the town and they take appropriate action. At this time too the town has been cathed by the contacted by the Shark Research institute and were talking about potential ways to avoid future incidents and study what has happened here. It is out of the norm for this area. We would like to remind people that the Brunswick County beaches and town of oak island beaches are open and things to be advised if you are in the area. Pay attention to fish swimming patterns. Fish start to dart away, chances are this could be a predator nearby. Try to avoid fishing boats and anglers onshore who can attract sharks looking for food. Refrain from swimming near those activities. Skip swimming after heavy rains that sometimes attracts predators into the area. Steer clear of dolphins and sea birds. Avoid mouths and rivers and sharp drops between sandbars that could attract these predators as well. Avoid swimming in dirty or murky water. Dont go into the water with bleeding cut or women menstruating should not go into the water. We have reports 6 shark in those areas, try to swim on sunny and clear days. Have a partner with you. Make sure what is going on in the surrounding environment as you enjoy the coast and the beach. At this time well take a few questions from the audience. Okay. Sir . The question for mr. Blount. Would you say it is possible bystanders not there these kids could have died . Absolutely. Absolutely. The bystanders to go ahead and start the process of stopping bleeding that was the biggest concern these with these patients was the blood loss. So it is the municipalities responsibility to determine that. And so i really cant answer that. Maybe tim can. At this time we dont have any change in policy on lifeguards. Do you think lifeguards would have made a difference in this situation as far as maybe out there seeing what was going on or getting people out of the water sooner . Martha were watching this newser in North Carolina where stunning events took place over the weekend t was a beautiful summer weekend. Two teenagers lost arms to shark attacks. The girl, according to the report we just got also lost some lower extremity area as well as you heard there. They are saying they cant identify one shark or more than one shark with the two attacks. Were watching this very closely. Big story today. Bill they were swimming near the pier. There might have been bait in the water. Jonathan serrie out of the atlanta. Big story. What more can we report . Reporter very big story and unusual story shark attacks in general uncommon particularly for this part of North Carolina, much less two shark attacks in the same day. What is unclear whether this is a single shark that were talking about or whether it was two sharks involved. You heard that last question on the size of the shark. They havent officially confirmed the size although one witness at the beach was saying he heard perhaps from one of the victims that the shark was seven to eight feet long with a mouth that was perhaps this wide he was demonstrating to cameras out there on the beach. This is relatively Shallow Water here. Both victims were said to be 20 yards offshore in waistdeepwater. Very Shallow Water particularly if the shark was indeed seven to eight feet long. Again very uncommon events but authorities taking no chances. They have a helicopter up in the air, boats in the water, patrolling for sharks so they can warn beachgoers should sharks return to that area. Bill and martha. Bill so the story is, that she was helping them escape in order for them to have the opportunity to kill her husband . Thats right. Well, first of all, it is important to note, and judge jeanine mentioned this earlier on fox friends, these two people on the lam were within a trusted Program Within the institution which gave them access to various areas within the prison most people would not have access to. Once they from the out once they made their escape, the initial plan according to the latest information this woman, Joyce Mitchell, she wanted her husband killed by one of these men, if not both of them. But then as we all know now, she got cold feet and changed her mind at the last minute. It was described as a panic attack. Instead of meeting her or meeting them near a power plant she checked into a hospital. At that point this whole plot, well it was stopped. It was frozen. Now they cant find these guys. The governor said they could be in mexico . Yeah, you know that is interesting. What i just read just earlier today there has been over 870 leads so far. Many of those leads just came in this past weekend that the authorities are following up on. So right now these individuals can be anywhere in the United States. They may be in mexico. They may even be in canada for all we know bill. I can tell i that authorities will continue to search for them until they are found. Bill come back to this point about the honors program. Im kind of confused they would be in a program with both of these individuals having rap sheets for murder they have how could they be in trusted program but they were. And so she is using exact same language that president has been using i think is actually a huge mistake considering that 2014 midterm elections were won by republicans based on antiobama message. And also you know, Hillary Clintons speech as a whole was hypocritical at best. Can talk all day about how she doesnt think ceos are being fair to the rest of the country when in fact ceos are very much comfortable being close to the clintons terms of lining their own pockets and donating money to the clinton foundation. Actions matching up it really doesnt for her to say ceos are the enemy here. Hillary clinton has cozy relationships with the ceos she is vilifying. How do you do that . How do you have fundraisers in greenwich, connecticut, raise money from wall street and do speeches for tons of big private entities across the country and go out there and say that and have people believe you, marianne. Look at her record. Kid in the middle class family in the midwest. Years after college. Years as first lady in the arkansas and white house, in the senate and secretary of state. She always fought for working families. Always fought for kids that is the big difference between Hillary Clinton and every republican who is trying to be president. She will have to prove that the work she has done protecting these programs that have been in place since the 1960s that they have actually helped to lift people up and katie, that is going to be, that is the most important discussion in this election as far as domestic policy is concerned. If you take a look at the last six or seven years under the Obama Administration for one example. American businesses arent hiring at rate they could be because of policies that Hillary Clinton supports. Obamacare, government regulation, government regulation based on Climate Change which is not septembered science despite what she said in her speech. Policies and Big Government handouts and programs that Hillary Clinton supports do nothing to pull people out of poverty as Hillary Clinton claims she wants to do. Martha shaking your head marianne. That is true. Businesses, you talk to all across the country will tell you that the reason theyre not hiring because of onerous regulation and because of obamacare. You doesnt think that is true . First of all, the reason kids in this country have health care is because of Hillary Clinton. Martha no answer my question. Is that why companies are not hiring . Martha, is that why . Youre no, were creating over 250, 80,000 jobs a month in this country. So people are hiring. The fact because it has taken years to clean up after another bush who left us in recessions and wartime. Will take us years more unfortunately. So the fact were creating over 280,000 jobs a month isnt nothing but we need to do better. Were doing it with the fact were giving everybody, making sure everyone has access to health care now which they did not have before. That is a big difference. A space probe is shocking scientist because it is alive. It landed seven months ago and ran out of power. We have a professor at the Columbia School of engineering. They landed on a comet which is amazing and then no transition. What happened . You need power to keep it alive in space. It isnt like earth where you can get gasoline or whatever. You need a power source and that is the sun. This landed in the shade so it could not get power but the engineers somehow kept it alive. We were concerned about the batteries. If it didnt get power within an orbit it would die because it would freeze. They must had had a little power or something because it stayed alive. It had to orbit in a way where the sun fired up the solar panels that is correct. That is the source of power. It isnt like power here to keep air conditioning. It is to keep the thing alive because if it gets too cold it will die. It is sending back data on what . This is the cool thing. Now they have gotten it back alive and starting to transmit information. It is saying it being checked out to see what it is working but the data can be given is what is on the elements of comet and we think that is how life began. There is a theory what the planet is made out of was a comet at one time. This is really groundbreaking. To get there was really tough. Can you say that the European Space agency is getting good information . It seems. We are depending on what we hear from the news and the European Space agents. They had communication with the data and orbiter but what they want to do is sample the material and study that. Just getting calm is one thing and the data is groundbreaking. It is a success story.
