This point according to ol real clear politics average. Bill during a debate, senator shaheen refusing to answer the question plaguing Many Democrats seeking office. Do you approve of the job president obama is doing . There will be a chance to follow up. This is yes or no answer. Do you approve, yes or no . In some ways i approve and some things i dont approve. So check on both questions that we deal with as policymakers there arent simple answers. Bill for more on the nuance, chris stirewalt, fox news digital politics editor. How are you . Good morning to you. That is great. Bill how was she able to tap around that question . For you i need a yes or no answer. No. She didnt tap around that question. She got hit like she was hit with a mac control by the question. Mackerel. Her supporters were laughing. It is silly. She does support the president. Does she approve . The answer its complicated and sometimes i do, sometimes i dont. What they track is, remember what the president said earlier this week talking to al sharpton. He said, look, i know these people badmouth me but these are the people who support me. I told them to say they disagree with me. In that context her line there turned into a laugh line. Bill listen, New Hampshire is getting closer by the week. We can clearly see that. North carolina appears inching closer as well. Republican thom tillis seems to gain ground on republican kay hagan. She left in a lot of polling for several months. He trails by two points when you put all polls together. Senator hagan did not attend last nights tell vied forum. Here is thom tillis there. Disappointed senator hagan is not here. President obama said all of his policies, every single one of them are on the ballot. I couldnt agree more. In North Carolina we call those policies senator kay hagans because senator kay hagan voted with the president 96 of the time. Now he is echoing the point you were just making there. And to be clear, hagan says i afree to three debates and not four. Tilliss camp says it was four. He was there. She was not. There was an empty chair in the room a la clint eastwood. That is exactly right. Now look, North Carolina, tillis still trails. He has gained ground. Better october than he did in september. He is coming in on her. Now here is the thing, talk about the first poll you mentioned from the ap, in the beginning, if that is reality how the electorate feels, if that is the shift we see, we seen it other follows from wall street journal we have our own polling coming out soon, if that is happening, late deciders, if the electorate is break for republican control of the United States senate late in the game, that is what is happening you can not expect kay hagan will coast through on point 1 2 or twopoint margin. Tillis has a lot of work to do from here to there but you dont like way things are shaping up if youre a democrat 45 or 46 . Bill were watching both races. Quickly, 91 in this poll said the economy is extremely or very important. Did that surprise you, that the number was that high . All people really want, if you get right down to it from the government is to be safe and to allow them to be prosperous. If people dont feel that way, they will have rocks in their jaws. I think that is kind of electorate you have got right now. Bill thank you, chris stirewalt. In washington, d. C. Also in this polling by the way, republicans are favored 39 to 31 on who you trust the most when it comes to the economy, 13 days out. Martha somebody hit by mackerel and somebody with rocks in their jaws. Chris stirewalt. We thank you him for that. Will you vote in this years election . Midterms you never know. Some people turn out. Some people are not. Some people are fire up. Some are not. 13 days away. Fire us a tweet. marthamaccallum and billhemmer. U. S. Shifting a strategy against isis. Moving to the allout effort to try to save the Syrian Border town of kobani. Here is Pentagon Press secretary rear admiral john kirby on this. The situation in kobani remains tenuous. We maintain that Kurdish Forces are in control of majority of city. I hesitate to put a number figure. We do believe they are in possession after majority of it. That said, isil forces continue to threaten it. Martha remember when john kerry said it would be all right to lose kobani, just one battle that would be part of a very long battle. Greg palkot joins us live. He has been on the syriaturkey border for the last several weeks. Greg, what can you tell us today . Reporter i think our take on the ground might be a little bit different than admiral kish by we still belief isis terrorists hold a sizable chunk of real estate in the Syrian Border town of kobani behind us. One good indication of that is where the us air strikes are hitting. Two hours ago we witness ad mammoth triple blast in the center of town where we belief is the main front line. We saw other airstrikes against the area as well. There is lot of fighting today. Isis firing away artillery and mortars and Kurdish Militia fighting back. The kurdish could be using some guns and ammunition dropped by u. S. Aircraft on monday. New reports say when the airdrop happened, they were down to last three days of ammo. We showed you amateur video yesterday, purporting to show isis fighters getting their hand on some of that stuff and one contact on the ground says, indeed, they made off with one bundle. But were seeing the movement of Kurdish Militia on the ground here, indicating that more could be on the way. There would certainly welcome more reinforcements. Remember, turkey this week has said it would allow a iraqi, Kurdish Peshmerga fighters to come in here to join the fight. There are new reports today that a unit of heavily armed 200 peshmerga could be getting ready to come in. We also understand there are a lot of political obstacles for them to get around before they can join the fight. Finally, martha, were also hearing claims of isis using chemical weapons, chlorine gas, some kind of a toxic gas against people here in kobani overnight. We have no confirmation of that. Our contac steer us away from that. Wouldnt be smartest thing for isis to use chemical weapons in close quarter fight with a good wind going but we never accused isis of being brain surgeons. Back to you. Martha greg, thats for sure. Thank you so much. Bill we learned this morning that three people are now in isolation after arriving at u. S. Airports from ebolaplagued countries. One passenger at Newark Airport in new jersey now in the hospital with, what could be ebolalike symptoms. Two others are being checked out in chicago. These by way are two of the five designated airports for arrival from west africa. John roberts is on the story live in atlanta with more. John, what do we know this morning . Reporter bill, good morning to you. We do know and cdc officials reminded me of this yesterday were one passenger away from having another ebola case in this country. Centers for Disease Control belief the case in newark is low risk. The man flew in from liberia. He had a fever on the flight. Had a fever when he landed as well but on the questionnaire he didnt indicate any risk factors. No contact with people in west africa with ebola. Cdc said unless he lied about that as Thomas Duncan did he should be tested out of abundance of caution. A couple cases in chicago. Was taking to the hospital after vomiting. She doesnt have any risk factors. She eaten something on the plane. In chicago medical service under observation. Not likely she will be tested but they quarantined the family during her evaluation just in case. In chicago, another man traveling alone had nausea and diarrhea traveling from liberia. At rush medical center. Not likely he has ebola. Had typhoid fever in august so he probably will the not be tested. We learned from customs and Border Protection four people arrived from Dulles Airport since they began enhanced screenings were sent to the hospital but no details have been provided on those cases. You can see were getting a lot of this and well continue to get a lot of this. Dhs by the way, placing restrictions on people traveling in from liberia, sierra leone and guinea will only be allowed to fly into one of the five airports that have enhanced screening. That doesnt cover people who might lay over a couple days after a flight from monorovia to brussels and travel to the United States on a separate ticket. Customs and Border Protection agents have been told to be on the lookout, bill, for people who have socalled, broken travel when they arrive here in the United States. Bill john thanks. John roberts there live in atlanta. Ron klain by the way, the ebola czar, first day on the job. Better late than never so. Where the printer is. Bathrooms are, he will get settled in. Well talk about more of that coming up in the next few minutes. How about this story today . Three teenage girls caught overseas and the fbi believes they were trying to join isis. John bolton live on that. Bill the president not apparently wanted by democrats campaigning in the midterms and something that Charles Krauthamer says must be killing the commanderinchief. Is it bug him . This is total humiliation from him and every once in a while he cant take it so it popses out. Bill a great panel to debate that in a moment plus there is this. [bleep]. Knew it was coming. Martha driver swerving into oncoming traffic, causing a train reaction crash. Well show you what the driver was doing right before that happened. Well be right back. Martha a new report on the secret service is out this morning with another black eye for the agency, as we learn a group of specialized agents were pulled from their duties at the white house to solve a personal dispute at the home of one of their bosses. She was reportedly in a longrunning feud with her neighbor. The incident is raising concerns over the president s safety. The secret service insists there was no threat during this whole thing. Three American Teenage girls under investigation by the fbi. They were stopped in frankfurt, germany, allegedly on their way to joining up with isis terrorists. John bolton, former u. S. Ambassador to the u. N. , fox news contributor, sir, good morning to you. A story still developing this morning. What more do we think we know about what the intention was here . It is pretty remarkable when you think about it that three teenage girls managed to get passports and money and travel from denver on their way to syria before they were finally located in frankfurt, which of course is a Major International air hub and how they, how they were able to do all this logistically raises a lot of questions. I think it was entirely in their parents prerogative to report their children missing and the authorities to find out where they went. I think law enfor performing as she should, but leads you to wonder how they got that far. Bill theyre back home in colorado, based on our understanding as well. What would be the draw here . What is the attraction if the story pans out . Well, you know, i think it underlines when were dealing with isis or in fact many offshoots of radical islamism, youre dealing with an ideology. It is something that appeals to people. It is not, not something perhaps most americans understand, but isis is very effective. It is communicating its ideology and i think it attracted these three teenage girls. One has to ask a further question, if we know about these three, are there not others who have gone or young adults already 21 or 18 gone on their own. Bill whether from this country or england or somewhere else as well. Exactly. Bill some people applaud the sophisticated nature of ice is in their recruiting. Are they that sophisticated already . You know from what we see and hear about their ability to market trinkets and goods over the internet, their skills in the social media, thereby enhancing their appeal to of young people, i think group is radically different from the image of terrorists huddling in caves in waa series stan. I think their communications are sophisticated and benefited from many of members being in western europe and being in the United States, imbibing our culture in a way theyre now turning against us. Bill how are we doing in that battle . One would suggest if these young ladies were turned in, weve got an ear to the ground. Would you agree with that . Well i think this is a success but remember, this comes because their parents reported them missing. I think if you go back, really to the london bombings of 2007 where the subway and bus attacks were carried out by british citizens, born and raised in britain, children of immigrants, but people who grew up with all the attributes of a Free Democratic society, and turned against it. I think that is, were at risk of that happening in the United States. I have at this it has happened in some case. I think it is an Important National discussion we have to have when outside influences like this promulgate this ideology under the guise of religion, under the radar screen in in many cases but these people go off to kill americans. Bill whether that case in london or this case today, circle back on this, there are those who would argue, for young people it gives them a sense of belonging. Do you see that at play here . There is certainly a sense of alien nation on the alien ages on the part of some muslims in United States and western europe. This is hard for most americans to understand, how this ideology can actually play against freedoms and opportunities they have here. It is not something that most americans ever experienced but it is reality. Weve seen it. Weve seen it demonstrated over and over again. Unless we confront it, understand the appeal of this ideology and its terrorist outcroppings, it is going to be very, very hard for us to deal with it, not with isis in the middle east but with the terrorists threat right here at home. Bill that could be a long battle. Thank you, mr. Ambassador. John bolton out of washington, d. C. Today. Well await for word from the fbi later today on this. Thank you, sir. Heres martha. Martha some Fresh Information on the fallout from obamacare. There is a new report that companies are now pushing employees out of their Health Care Program in order to deal with the rising costs. Is this going to affect you and your company . Stuart varney joins us now coming up. Bill also the recall for these exploding airbags gotten even bigger today but people looking for answers are hitting a bit of a dead end. Well explain. Im an idaho potato farmer and our big idaho potato truck is still missing. So my buddy here is going to help me find it. Here we go. Woo who, woah, woah, woah. Consumers having trouble to figure out what models are affected because of problems with the government website. If youre on the call back list. Be patient. It might take 24 hours at least to get an answer. With penalties set to kick in next year for employers who dont comply with obamacare, 2015 is right around the corner, folks, so some companies are dealing with this in different ways to cut the cost. One strategy to shift their workers over to medicaid. Lets bring in Stuart Varney from the fox business network. So, stuart, you think medicaid, you think people who are under the poverty line or i guess the new law is 138 above that measure, are now included in medicaid. Companies can say to somebody working for them, were bumping you off, youre on medicaid . Yes. If you have people working for you qualifying for medicaid, low income, limited hours, parttimers, for example, yes you can put them on medicaid and no penalty to the employer. It is tax pay her fits the bill. Remember employers are trying to get around a 2,000 per person fine if they dont have legitimate Health Care Coverage for their employees. So that is a big reason to get around this and push the cost off on to somebody else. There are other ways of doing this. Companies, for example, taking up what is called skinny care or bare bones coverage. You get the coverage that youre supposed to get, but, for example, no hospitalization. Well, you get hospitalized that is an arm and leg, you have a real problem but it gets the problem away from the employer because it cuts the cost of the for the employer. Martha who pays for the peoples hospitalization if their plan doesnt cover it . They do. Yes. They pay much higher deductibles. That is the way employers getting cost down. Everybodys know this, most peoples deductible next year has certainly gone up significantly. That is the another way the employers get the cost of health care down. The law of unintended consequences. You pass this law, obamacare. You have got to have coverage through your employer. If you dont, it is 2,000 per person that youre not providing health care for. So, employers go around it anyway they can, staying within the law but saving themselves a ton of money. It is what to be expected in a forprofit organization. And it is happening now. Martha some people would look at this situation and say, you know, this is exactly what the president intended. That eventually you will get to a singlepayer system because he said all employers have to offer this insurance to people but turns out theyre not. Guess what, theyre in the government pool. Yes, there is a strong body of thought that says this bass the intention all the time. Push people away from the private sector, push them on to socialized medicare, singlepayer. Some people say that was the intention all along. Im not sure about that but that is whats happening, more and more people pushing on the taxpayerfunded health care. It is happening now. Martha more Expensive Health care in the end. Yes, for everybody. Martha stuart, thank you very much. Well see you on the fox business channel. Thanks for stopping by as usual. See Stuart Varney on fox business network. If youre not sure where to find Stuart Varney. Find out where he lives at foxbusiness. Com channel finder to track him down. Bill right to his front porch. 13 days before the balance of power is decided in congress. Two more americans however are still being held there. Martha well the white house now pushing back against claims that president obamas record is hurting democrats who are out there campaigning for their midterm elections. White House Press Secretary josh earnest took to the podium yesterday. He said largely these candidates are really responsible for their own outcomes in the end. The success of many of these Democratic Candidates will depend on their own success in motivating voters that strongly supported the president in 2012. What the president has said he will do, is do whatever he can to help those candidates get elected, but ultimately it is up to those candidates to make the decision how the president can be most helpful. Martha alan colmes, host of alan colmes radio show and fox news contributor. Brad blakeman, former assistant with president george w. Bush. Welcome here. Brad, some are saying this is a bit of a contradiction here. These are my people. These are my policies. Were all on the same page. Josh earn e said out there basically, said, youre on your own. The president should know historically, regardless of the fact of the trouble that hes in domestically and internationally pollwise, that president s, second term president s in midterms dont fare very well, you know that coming into this election cycle. More importantly from the polling thats been done, right track, wrong track, 70 of the American People think were going down the wrong track, obama is less than 40 popularity. That the president would be quiet. Let the candidates play out the elections with quote or quote help or unhelp as it may be. But president feels the necessity to chime in and he is really hurting chances now of those incumbents who are in tough races. Seems like he has decided, alan, there are two places where he can help, that is fundraising and also bringing out the base which is ostensibly what he was trying to do when he was on the al sharpton radio show when he made comments other day, do you agree . Yes. Interesting bringing out base by doing. That he is also raising money and so unpopular and going to fund raisers and raising millions of dollars for the Democratic Party. If he were that unpopular im sure he wouldnt be so welcome at all the fund raisers. The democrats i think are making a mistake by running away from him. When Alison Lundergan grimes in kentucky doesnt want to admit that she voted for him, what are we stupid . We really think she didnt vote for barack obama . And democrats need to actually embrace a positive agenda. Rather than just be republicanlight. Stand up for what they belief in and celebrate some of the things accomplished. Martha political argument for that to be sure. Listen to Charles Krauthamer last night on special report. Listen to what he said. I think rich lowery said early tonight, bee striding the world, citizen of the world, most interesting, most soughtafter rock star, political rock star on the planet. Now he has to hide under his desk until november. This is total humiliation for him and every once in a while he cant take it so it pops out. Martha want to go back to the you, alan. What do you thi i dont think it is total humiliation for him. Doing fundraisers, raising money for the party. Dont forget, an ap poll out today shows Republican Party is more unpopular than he is. Democrats miss be opportunity given unpopular with the Republican Party, seven out of 10 republicans are not happy with their own leadership in congress. If democrats have great opportunity to carve a niche out for themselves. Martha i want to bring up one more point in terms of campaigning from the white house because there is an interesting piece that came out from the National Journal which talks about democrats lasng out at the white house for getting it wrong for them in these elections and there is the whole incident, in iowa, with michelle obama, who came out to help campaign for bruce braley and here is what she said a week or so ago. Some of you may remember the last time i was here. I, no, i got it wrong. A couple of times. But, i sort of laugh at myself, well, i thought people should follow me home, talk to malia and sasha, i never call them the right names. Who are you . I call barack bo. Martha weve done that home and talking about mistake she made calling bruce bailey, bailey a couple of times. Her office put out a press release about the iowa race. Unfortunately it said, it was about him, bruce braley running for the democratic candidate for governor. Unfortunately the poor guy is running for senate. This is just, insult to injury here, brad. It has been a tough week. Poor obama. If it wasnt for bad news the guy wouldnt make news. When he tries to make news, it doesnt even turn out the way he thought it was going to be. Right here in the home backyard in maryland, people walked out during his speech. His most ardent supporters took off. When alan talks about fundraiser, there is sucker born every minute, alan. They will support the president to dying breath. When you talk about fundraisers, one. Fund raisers they had they had to discount the price because they werent selling tickets. The fact this president isnt doing well and if he was smart he would lay low until the legislation to not add fuel to the fire. Martha alan, let me get to you answer if i can the big picture question here. We remember the magazine covers with the halo around him. The president in berlin, 200,000 people showed up to see him. The Denver Convention speech. He has gone from this sort of heroic mantle that was around him, to a very tough, political reality. What are your thoughts on that phenomenon . Interesting phenomenon that nobody could have lived up to the hype. There is no way that anybody could have lived up to all of the adulation and hype and expectations we have. We always have expectations for our political figures and then reality sets in and the world happens and youve got to deal with stuff you never intended to deal with. Martha maybe, alon alan, because he did not become a president that embraced change, transparity, the difference, not a black america, not a white america, he has been divisive by many peoples counts, but just a quick thought. When you get to washington and you think you can change things you realize only limited how much one person can do. You can not have much as effect you think you have going in. Martha brad, alan, thank you so much. Good to have you both here. See you next time. Thank you. World series returning to kansas city last night. First time in nearly 30 years. Bill as the mid terps draw closer one hot political topic, new Jersey Governor Chris Christie wants you to stop asking him about raising the minimum wage. Now why would that be . Here is his explanation. Tired of hearing about the minimum wage. I really am. I dont think there is a mother or father sitting around a Kitchen Table tonight in america who are saying, you know, honey, if our son or daughter could just make ahere minimum wage, my god all our dreams would be realized. Bill he said more than that. Dana lash, author of book, hands off my gun. The defeating plot to disarm america and radio talk show host here with me in studio. How are you doing . Im doing good, bill. Bill up on the satellite there. What do you think about the point Chris Christie made there . I thought he made it in humerus way, one thing Chris Christie while i agree with him on number of issues he is very distinct and very to the point and lives in sound bite culture and went on to say that. Bill he said our children aspire to greater growing america. Talking about dreaming big, not thinking small. If it is about compassion, why stop at 10 an hour or 15 an hour, but if you really, really care make it Million Dollars an hour. Bill democrats will not let go of this. Hashtag, raise the wage. I look at it that way. They dont realize what drives. That i understand good intentions. I do. I had a single mother who worked three jobs. I understand good intentions. I worked a number of parttime jobs through school at minimum wage. That is where you start, and you start and dream bigger than. That. By starting at 10 or 15 an hour minimum wage you will squeeze people out of the employment who need employment. You make it harder for middle class families to afford products they are making. Bill are you against raising it at all . Yeah. It should be market demand. People should be paid what the market values. Bill okay. Around the Kitchen Table. That will not be a topic of discussion for you in dallas. Last night you were on with sean hannity. Yeah. Bill he wanted you going on record supporting one of the republican governors possibly for the white house in 2016. Yeah. Bill you said winning the senate is important, but, but, what happens if they, suck out loud . I know. Bill are you worried about that, based on the, based on number of candidates you see as potential 2016 republicans . I think gop has a really good bench. I think the gop has a Stronger Bench than democrats do going into 2016. Democrats are basically leading with Hillary Clinton and elizabeth warren. It will be one of those two women, warren or clinton. But, in terms of, for republicans statistically, gubernatorial candidates do well than senate candidates, than congressional candidates but im not at the point where im willing to throw my hat. Bill Chris Christie is not a guy he is not my guy. Bill not your guy. Scott walker, wisconsin . Rec perry, texas, john kasich ohio, Bobby Jindal Louisiana . I dont want a purity test. I will get close to that decision as we get closer to 2016. I will work hard in the primary. You know, i will support who i want to in the primary. Going into 2016 after primary you have to go to war with soldiers you got and i will be a team player. I dont want Senate Majority leader reid and i want obamacare repealed. Bill youre close to the tea party and what does that movement favor in terms of an individual . I dont think it is monolithic movement. It is viewed that way. If theyre monolith i can any way, conservative government and individual liberty and limiting government overreach and power. That is the only monolithic thing they can be about. I know so Many Tea Party member, grassroots, been out there since tween, and they feel differently about number of different issues. That is the benefit of a big tent. It is 8020 thing. They can accomplish 80 , disagree on 20 we can go from there. Bill quickly on that is the tea party as Movement Still growing or has it been sidelined at the moment . Ive been involved in this Movement Since 2009. I was one of the original people out there. I started it on my radio show in st. Louis when it was just a local show. Any Movement Like that needs to be a catalyst for change. You can not get stuck in raising awareness. Raising awareness is lazy way of sitting at home to talk about issues and not go doortodoor, not do retail politics and press the flesh and make phone calls. It is good to see people in Grass Roots Movement to move beyond that. Tea party has become more an effect just stuck in the catalyst position. Bill after 2014, folks will come back and see where they stand. Your book, hands off my gun. The ultimate guide to defeating gun control. Anything you want to know about combating gun control is in this book. Statistics, racist roots of gun control. Sexist angle of gun control. Historical precedent, legal precedent. Everything is in. Book. Bill nice to see you in person. Dana loesch in new york. Martha. Martha were remembering one of the most influential newspapermen in the 20th century. A look at the legacy of Washington Post editor ben bradley with a journalist who worked for mr. Bradley. Bill the dollars and cents we lose sitting in traffic may add up to a lot more than you thought about. Will that be all, sir . Thank you. Ordering chinese food is a very predictable experience. I order b14. I get b14. No surprises. Buying business internet, on the other hand, can be a roller coaster White Knuckle thrill ride. Youre promised one speed. But do you consistently get it . You do with comcast business. And often even more. Its reliable. Just like kung pao fish. Thank you, ping. Reliably fast internet starts at 89. 95 a month. Comcast business. Built for business. Bill time is money, fellas. Ladies too. Turns out time is money, sitting in that rushhour traffic can cost you a lot of it. New study find that traffic costs average American Household congestion drivessted time and up the cost of goods. Average american spending 111 hours a year in traffic. L. A. Is the worst city for traffic. Really . Researchers forecasting roads will continue to get more congested due to urban population growth. Hmmm. Martha i spent a bit of time in traffic every day. Unlike you i live on other side of the river. I come through the tunnels. Bill how is it working out for you . Martha get a few things done, you know. Bill we got that. Martha 1700. Today we are remembering a giant of print journalism, ben bradley. Passed away last night at the age of 93. He was a legend. He presided over the Washington Post for a quarter of a century, turning a regional paper with the help of Catherine Graham into a global powerhouse. Joining me someone who worked for ben brad bradlee, host of media buzz. Good morning, martha. There are Great Stories of ben bradlee,. Share your thoughts as you remember him. Ben bradlee made you want to run through a wall for him. The only man i ever met could jagger without getting out of his chair. He had a barrel chest and graphly voice and cure cursed a lot and very funny. He had very short attention span. You had to get to the point quickly or he would move on. People forget about watergate around closely associated with bens legacy. Maybe people remember Jason Robards playing him in awl the president s men. President threatened to yank the post company licenses and rest of media were ignoring the story. He bet the farm on two young metro reporters woodward and bernstein who stuck with the story under this enormous, enormous pressure. Martha were looking at pictures of woodward and bernstein now. That really was put him on the Larger National map, clearly. He and Catherine Graham had an incredible partnership, howard. He really did. Bradlee famously said i guess i could say on television, when he was at newsweek and wanted post editor job, he told graham, i would give my left one for that. Publishing the Washington Post. Went ahead and published. That was a kay graham, ben bradlee decision. They had amazing partnership. Bradlees record is mixed. He was very, very close to jack kennedy, who was his neighbor in george town. Too close i would say looking back. Friendship produced martha how so . They were social friends. That produced a lot of scoops for bradlee but at the same time there was a mixing of the personal and the professional that i think would be frowned on today. Ironically bradlee later wrote a book, conversations with kennedy. Showed how close they were. That was deemed by detrail with Jackie Kennedy and was friendly with bradlee and his then wife and never spoke to ben again. Martha he was great, irascible powerful mans mankind of guy, you wonder, howard, you cover the media as your beat. Do you we will see the likes of ben bradlee in the newspaper business again. Probably not for a number of reasons. Lowest moment was at Washington Post when the paper had too give back a pulitzers over janet cooks story about a fictional heroin addict, eightyearold boy supposedly addicted to heroin. Newspapers were in the heyday during the bradlee era. He would write to nasty letters to readers that wrote in, this was age of before focus groups where people had to be sensitive. A navy vet, hardcharging, charismatic editor. They dont make them like that anymore. Newspapers dont quite occupy the central role in the age of social media and 24 hour cable they did in the 70s and 80s. He was 93 im going to miss him. Martha his wife was by his side all these years, sally quinn, they were wonderful institution themselves in washington. Thank you so much, howard. Good to have you here today. Thank you, martha. Bill day one on the job for the new ebola czar at the white house for a meeting. He will be there but refusing to face congress. You got a problem with that . Martha well find out. Plus remember this video that comes to epitomize government waste. The study of shrimp on the treadmill. You paid for that, folks. Wait until you hear what theyre spending money and sometimes i struggle to sleep at night,nd. And stay awake during the day. This is called non24, a circadian rhythm disorder that affects up to 70 percent of people who are totally blind. Talk to your doctor about your symptoms and learn more by calling 8448242424. Or visit your24info. Com. Dont let non24 get in the way of your pursuit of happiness. Martha fox news alert, it is a one for the new white house ebola czar. Meeting with the top aides today to discuss and get their arms around the response to the virus on the heels of a release of new cdc guidelines that have come out to steer the Health Care Workers play better way to equipping themselves to deal with potential patients. More on the congressman who will be here to talk about why he is not going to appear in front of congress to talk about this come friday. Brandnew questions about the secret service where the scandals keep piling up. An episode that shook up the white house leaving the president with less protection. A brandnew hour starts now of happening now. Bill good morning. Deputy director getting involved in a personal dispute between an employee and her neighbor launching a bizarre mission dubbed operation moonlight diverting agents to suburban maryland. Mike emanuel live to figure out what happened here. What do we know about this incident . Bill, good morning. Secret Service Employee who work in the office was involved in a dispute with the neighbor. She had been harassed by her neighbor and that individual had assaulted her father knocking out several of his teeth. The secret Service Teams were sent to the home in maryland, a 50 minutes drive away on five days. He wrote to jay johnson the secret Services Mission is to protect the president of the United States and not to involve itself in employee disputes. That is handled by the local police. They said we have received the memorandum and are reviewing the findings. Despite a general says there was no legal or procedural notification of a team deployed. Bill to be clear, they left on several occasions from the white house when the president was home . Thats right. On at least two of the five instances, president obama was in the residence when the paid a visit to southern maryland. Although his safety was not jeopardize, critics are not buying that. Longtime secret Service Agent was brought back from the private sector october 1 to serve as interim acting director. This is the latest in a series of slipups that clancy is assigned to cleanup. Bill mike emanuel there in washington. Martha the secret service embarrassed by several instances this year. Last month a man with a knife was able to climb the white house fence, run across the lawn and get inside. Three days earlier a convicted felon with a gun was allowed to ride in an elevator with the president. In the week before agents grabbed a guy who jumped over the fence in the white house on the anniversary of 9 11. Bill this case for the white house was on a lockdown at pennsylvania avenue. Inmate arrested after following a motorcade in the outermost security checkpoint and in march secret service and three agents home for alleged night of drinking found passed out in the hotel hallway. They left on two of the five locations and two of those occasions the president was home. It raises questions. Martha he has his work cut out for him. Critics are calling a new democratic get out the vote effort in georgia over the line. From the ferguson riots which happened in missouri, not in georgia, these are the posters that show the scene after the deadly shooting of Michael Brown suggest voting for democrats would prevent things like that from happening. The flyer reads ferguson, missouri, population 67 africanamerican. The citys mayor, five of the Six City Council members and 94 of the police force are white, so what are we going to do about it says the flyer. Campaign reveals a sad state of affairs in his mind for democrats. Thats ridiculous and they recruit piece of literature. You can see what is happening here. The one that could save it is another turnout miracle the kind Democratic Party was able to amass and put together for the 2012 president ial elections. Martha a fox news contributor. What is your reaction to this piece . I agree with what brit hume said. This is typical of the scramble. Both sides engage in this activity, but it seems to get more attention. When democrats do it, the Mainstream Media doesnt pick up on it, doesnt investigate it the way they do. Martha the race in georgia is very tight, larger implications for georgia and for the national sees. As we see, this be the one that controls the senate. Michelle has run a very good campaign. If republicans say she has run a very good campaign. Focus on david or do and his boasting of the jobs. He has defended that decision and she hammered him with it. Lot of people said that suggests a throwback to the playbook that barack obama used on mitt romney. That is why she is doing as well as she is doing right now. Martha theres a lot of talk about the machines they get out the vote effort for obama. If they have a feed to hold at this point, it is the ability and the reach of that machine has naturally been felt, youre going to see it kick in, it will make a difference, the technology that underlines that in the outreach to the base which clearly this had which people on all sides would find despicable is an effort at that. That is exactly what they are trying to do. Historically of his effort from democrats going back years. Suggesting that when george w. Bush refused to sign hate crimes legislation it was like he was being killed all over again. An effort to get voters, black voters out to the poll. That evincing the use of the official government announced an investigation into alleged voter suppression, nothing came of it but justin also that and publicity given to it was an effort to lift the democratic base. Martha we will see you later. Bill reports that the autopsy on Michael Brown reveals he was shot at close range. St. Louis newspaper reports the shot was fired at close range and finding the contradiction of a separate private autopsy but the results backs of claims from the officer that the two struggled over the officers weapon. Official says he is confident the entire ebola epidemic can be contained within 46 months. Telling generals the timeframe as possible if there is good isolation, treatment, and safe burials which theyre working very hard on in west africa right now. Killing more than 4500 people since it emerged 10 months ago. Most of those in west africa where the outbreak began. Bill the ebola new czarcoming under fire already. Maybe that is a step in the right direction, then i find out he is not really a doctor, and you start to worry about are we worried about the message of the mission . Bill he missed with the president later today for the first time but will not appear to hearing on friday. Martha motorcycle gangs on the rampage in the big city terrorizing drivers while police can only watch. Bill the government waste book, a new running partner. Wait until you hear what youre tax dollars are paying for. Martha he must be in pretty good shape now. Bill he keeps on running. Can you start tomorrow . Tomorrow were booked solid. We close on the house tomorrow. Tomorrow we go live. Its a day full of promise. And often, that day arrives by train. Big day today . Even bigger one tomorrow. Csx. How tomorrow moves. Bill from the doctor, hundreds of bikers riding dirt bikes 80s and motorcycles, most of them illegal on city streets terrorizing other drivers. Weaving through traffic and on sidewalks and the center of a park, all kinds of stress. City police gave them free reign, did not pull them over. Started out as a Funeral Service for local dirt bike rider. They believe the murder was drugrelated. Martha the new ebola czar, ron claim, he will sit down with the president talk about the response or lack thereof. After he declined an invitation to testify before the House Oversight Government Reform Committee on this friday. Jason is on that committee and he joins me now. Good to have you here. I invited him to come on friday . On the job as of today, answering questions from both democrats and republicans on friday. Seemed like a simple request but he refused. Martha why . I dont know. Were off to a bad start. The present things enough to put this person in that place. We have questions if be in that spot, but what about the budget, what about the response, what about his other agencies set up to deal with this. Why not answer those questions. Martha they will come out and speak apparently an address with his job is going to be. They park and people deserve to know what he is expected to accomplish. The bush administration, the Surgeon General at that time had hazmat plans they distributed to every hospital in the country after 9 11 because they were concerned ebola could be weapon iced many years ago. Where is that plan . That is a very legitimate question. At least some the with a medical background and confirmed by the United States senate. That is where we should be i think going. We have fema and other agencies bid under president clinton and president bush we had a special assistant to the president for bio defense policy. President obama got rid of that decision because bigger and broader than just ebola. There are other things that can be Infectious Diseases or bio attacks on the homeland, and yet president obama got rid of that position. Now his trying to back fill it after calls to get somebody in as a point person. Martha this is under control, and we hope and pray it is under control. Facing four to six months in west africa they could get it under control, very different from the numbers we heard a few months ago, so that is clearly good news but he easily becomes complacent and the next thing comes down the pike, and we are telling the same exact story against the American People. President clinton, president bush saw this as a threat. President obama gets rid of that, now they are trying to react and he is not even prepared enough to answer congress. What does that say about this position he is feeling he doesnt feel comfortable asking basic questions from congress is he ready to be on the job when it is happening in real time right now . Bill if the acting Surgeon General, who is an accomplished doctor, has a tenuous periods in public health, if im in his shoes looking at ron klain, i am embarrassed. Im equipped to do it, i am here, showing up for work every day and this guy is going to do it . It begs the question what does the Surgeon General do. Somebody with a medical history ground, who understands the bureaucracy, why arent we empowering that person. I dont understand why the Obama Administration is doing it this way but they chose somebody political and not somebody who is actually a doctor. Martha what do you expect ron klain to doing this job . Want them to galvanize them to get him moving in the right direction but now he will be placed under Homeland Security reporting to an assistant, he is fairly far removed in this position. They understand his ties the white house is tight and he has had experience as the chief of staff for the Vice President , but i dont know what he understands medically. Bill we hope for specific benchmarks and can gauge the progress for how well he meets all of this. We will see. Hopefully you can get him before your committee before not too long. Good to see you. Bill wants no who has edge edge 13 days before the election, new poll numbers tell a very interesting story. Who will play inside the numbers. Martha and talking about ebola, which is no laughing matter. But a prank that went very wrong for one man. They want something to charge me with, they must dig deeper. , ya know what salesman alan ames becomes . I think the numbers speak for themselves. Im sold a selling machine ready for you alert, only at lq. Com. Big day . Ah, the usual. Moved some new cars. Hauled a bunch of steel. Kept the supermarket shelves stocked. Made sure everyone got their latest gadgets. Whats up for the next shift . Ah, nothing much. Just keeping the lights on. laugh nice. Doing the big things that move an economy. See you tomorrow, mac. See you tomorrow, sam. Just another day at norfolk southern. They all lost their lives because of preventable medical errors, now the third leading cause of death. Only Heart Disease and cancer take more lives. Proposition 46 will save lives with drug and Alcohol Testing to make sure impaired doctors dont treat someone you love. Safeguards against Prescription Drug abuse. And holds the medical industry accountable for mistakes. Im barbara boxer. Lets save lives. Vote yes on 46. Martha we are back and we have breaking news coming from the parliament in canada where there is a reported shooting at this hour. You can see the eminence outside of the building in canada where the reports are shots have been fired and one soldier is down on duty near the war memorial. The historic parliamentary building, and that appears to be the war memorial. People running in the the sanity of that area. One soldier down at the war memorial. Another body near the parliamentary library. It is under lockdown. An active shooting scene from what we are being told right now and we are staying on this until we get more information. 10 23 a. M. Eastern time in ottawa. Many people in these Office Buildings session underway. One report of a person in uniform. Information that changes as we go through it. A lot of things go through the mind in terms of what can be at work here. Bill reporting the canadian soldiers standing guard have been shot, unknown gunmen. The incident comes with two days after two canadian soldiers have been run over, one of them killed by a man which some believe our jihadist sympathies. Watching twitter, reports or at least one around center block. Royal connection has guns drawn in five Canadian Parliament buildings and they are now dealing with a shooter. Martha ottawa ontario, this season were looking at in front of your eyes right now. According to apa man believed to be a member of the Canadian Forces has been shot at the National War Memorial and the shots of gunfire that may be ongoing in the building at this hour. The first report of shots being fired, the gunman reportedly ran toward Parliament Hill which is under lockdown, Emergency Responders as you can see from the pictures here, all hands on deck attitude surrounding this because by all accounts the shooter is still active and on the run. Just to note the other news we had that could be along these lines out of canada is to canadian soldiers in a very bizarre incident were run over and one of them was killed in quebec by a man reported to have jihadist sympathies according to the police it took him into custody. This is the kind of a scene we worry about. The government building tend to be heavily fortified, dont have too much information on what the security is around these buildings, again dont know who is responsible for this but this is an active shooting scene at this moment, theyll. Bill as we work through the scene with the canadian government, as of six minutes ago the shooter had not yet been apprehended. We dont know if he is inside, outside. We do not know his condition, nor the circumstances surrounding that and this report in the Parliament Gunfire inside the building. Oftentimes stories break like this in real time, we will see what is happening in ottawa. Martha what is happening in happening now. The pentagon shifting their goals in the battle against isis. Why saving kobani is far more important than it ever has been before to achieving our goals. Here i am. Rock you like a hurricane. Fiber one now makes cookies. Find them in the cookie aisle. Martha lets get you back to this live active shooting scene ongoing at Canadian Parliament. It has been shut down, the andamans outside. Reports are that one soldier was down, wounded. We do not know his status right now be it a Prime Minister was safely taken out of the building and is in a safe place according to these reports. This is a very fastmoving situation so we are bringing them to usb get the men looking for more confirmation a number of fronts. There are reports the shooter was a man a black coat with a rifle going from the war memorial and the Parliament Building, so this is a very frightening situation for people there. As we have mentioned, it was a very strange situation where to canadian soldiers were run over by a man who was said to have jihadist tendencies according to the police it took me into custody. One was killed in that, as we continue to keep a very close eye on this. The kind of thing everybody is on edge about and as we get more information we will bring it to you. Bill back to ottawa in a moment. Shifting the strategy against isis working directly with kurdish commanders in the battle for kobani shearin sharing insi. Good morning to you. We might get interrupted. Lets see what happens with these two elements in ottawa. You dont find this as much of a surprise. You are under the impression we have spotters in kobani already. What would you know how and when to drop these ready arsenal from above, right . Not necessarily military. Not just kurds with cell phones. Kobani is symbolically critical and the Obama Administration is starting to learn dont hurt anybody air campaign wasnt working, the supposed allies we were working with, and those working against us in many respects, and the only ally we have in the region, the kurds isil selecting kobani fall would have been a disaster politically, strategically, militarily. Bill that could still happen. Kobani could still go the other way. A town of 40,000 at the border, tell us why that matters so much. Islamic states decided would matter to them. They are tenacious and are not used to losing. They made it important. Out of the way place, nobody has ever heard of suddenly becomes symbolic and strategic focal point. It is becoming a real contest not only of military might but of will spread i dont think kobani will fall. One thing that is really upsetting has not been fox, but irresponsible Media Coverage internationally of the one air drop outside the boundaries and Islamic State hands. Our air force has done a phenomenal job getting those targets. Dropping a postage stamp essentially. Flying high above the range of heavy weapons and historically 50 of those, the fact really lost one out of 28 possibly 30, that is an amazing job. It is clear to me were yesterday to out the stops. Bill i think the following quote touches a little on what you are saying. Wall street journal u. S. Official. This is a war of flags and kobani in its place state wanted to plant their flag. It became strategic and that is where it is today, colonel. He is showing how to put this he is good pressure from the United States and arab nations forcing to ease up a little bit. Said he will allow iraq he players to join the fight and allow them to see what happens but he is angry because he wanted Islamic States to kill the kurdish fighters and wanted us to come Islamic State fighters so his islamists could take power eventually. Very convoluted, but i want to be fair about this. The administration got off to a pathetic start. I think theyre making real progress, a long way to go. Baghdad still immediately threatened. Would be a good job in kobani, now we have to go across the front. We need more power and some boots on the ground. Bill ralph peters in washington. Martha we want to take you back to ottawa canada now with has been a shooting at Parliament Hill, which is now in complete lockdown be at a have been told to leave the building. Prime minister harper is safe and was taken to a safe place outside of the building. The cbc reporting this. An active situation. One victim was taken to the hospital after being given cpr. The witness says there were four shots fired from a large rifle, from a man chased from the war memorial by the military, so very tense and very active ongoing scene. Reportedly shot outside of this building earlier today about 9 9 52 is when we got reports of this. An active day in parliament in the middle of the morning on this wednesday morning. Multiple shootings. Inside the building is the big fear at this hour this shooter remains on the loose so we will continue to stand top of this breaking news, lot of questions of who could be behind this. Bill yesterday we were reporting about the two canadian soldiers run over. One of them killed as a matter of fact in quebec by men with jihadist tendencies. We already have questions about that story, and now this. This is our understanding. The facts as we know them, canadian soldier standing guard at the war memorial in ottawa shot by gunmen. Reports of gunfire and inside the parliament. Where he went, and this report of more than one shooter still trying to nail down right now in the early stages of the breaking news stories, we are trying do our best to gather it as we go along. Cap and were the first shooting took place. Watching on twitter, the police had their guns inside the Parliament Building and are now trying to deal with the shooter. Cds reporting the shooter has not been found or caught or stopped as of now. Martha new polls show most americans disapprove of how president obamas handling of these issues that face the country. Could voters feelings of the president have an impact on the Key Senate Races . The great Political Panel in the midterms 13 days away now. The shark bit back twice. Second time she lost her balance and fell out. Bill back to ottawa now. This is what we are learning. You can clearly see one of the victims being attended to on the sidewalk outside of a war memorial. This really hard for us to tell. This is what we believe we know. A gunman, a man believed to be a member of the needy forces shot at the National War Memorial with gunfire later inside the departmendepartment happening ln an hour ago. 15 minutes ago, reports of shots fired. The gunman reportedly ran toward Parliament Hall currently under lockdown. The s. W. A. T. Team on the scene. They have the kevlar vest on. Coming two days after two canadian soldiers were run over. One of them killed in quebec by a man with jihadist sympathies. Were trying to figure it out. We do not believe at this time the government has been accounted for or the gunman have been accounted for. Sweawere waiting for more on t. We will get that here on americas newsroom. Martha as we wait for more from the breaking news out of canada. The majority of americans disapprove of the way the president has handled some of the top issues that face our nation. An ap paul youre looking at and the disapproval numbers are very high. Economy, health care. Isis threat. Ebola response, both of those big stories over the past several weeks and the president not doing well on his handling of either one of them. Take a look at that highlighted portion right there. New hampshire where republican scott brown is gaining on the incumbent senator, legendary name in politics, both of the issues coming up last night during the debate. Watch this. We need to have a travel ban. Anybody leaving or coming into those countries has to stop, the president has given an incoherent policy. I think weve got to look at taking every action necessary to keep people safe including a travel ban. If we can figure out that improves the situation. My question to be president and senator is what happens if airstrikes dont work . Then what . We dont want to send back an Occupying Force of tens of thousands of americans. Again my opponent has suggested that we should be thinking about that. Martha these are issues of huge consequence, ones these senators are going to have to deal with during their term. This fascinating to watch them talk about these issues during the debate. Former spokesman for the democratic campaign. Welcome, good to have you both here. A legendary name in politics. Scott brown has changed the game in recent weeks given a real run for her money. If democrats would tell you the race is tightening but still has a slight lead, this is going to come down to republicans attack connecting her to obama and then a counter to that is massachusetts senator former senator scott brown, the fact he has run three senate races in two states in the last five years, tv talking head, people in New Hampshire really just dont trust him. The biggest hurdle he has had to overcome over the course of this race. Martha obviously when this thing began, has that changed what you are seeing . And unbelievable campaigner, one of the best on the bench republican politics and i know i shouldnt say this but i feel bad for jean. That only getting louder leadership and bad policies on anything and everything, every time politically the president opens up his mouth, he is a gas machine. Like joe biden took over his reign in his mouth. I kind of feel bad especially in red states. Martha breaking news in canada, bring you back soon as they develop. Bill back to ottawa. One person shot, a uniformed officer description given out of the capital city. Parliament hill in lockdown after the shooting at the war memorial, suspect still not accounted for. Stephen harper is safe, left Parliament Hill as well. They have also located a car belonging to a possible suspect in this shooting. David lee miller writing this story, what do you have . This began 9 52 east coast time. According to reports from the scene, a canadian soldier standing guard at the war memorial was shot by gunmen. We understand cardiopulmonar aco preliminary reports he hijacked a car. Individual described as having blue jeans and with him a hunting rifle, dark hair, he then made his way over to the Parliament Building and that is where according to one minister some pretty rounds were fired. There is smell of gunfire at the Parliament Building. The Prime Minister is safe, he is away from Parliament Hill. All this unfolding shortly after according to fox news now confirmed the canadian officials have raised the Terror Threat from low to medium. We do not know why, but shortly after the Terror Threat was raised, this shooting incident takes place, authorities in pursuit of at least one gunman. We understand this may play a role in the investigation and abandoned iphone was found not far from the war memorial where the soldier was shot. Not sure how this would play into the ongoing investigation. Bill another headline, witnesses describe several dozen shots fired inside the Parliament Buildings after the canadian soldier was shot. Good morning to you. In the immediate circumstances of a situation like this, what is your priority . Priority is making sure the Parliament Building, make sure the shooter has been neutraliz neutralized, and at the same time concerned about making sure other individuals dont enter the building. We dont know this person was acting alone or in concert with others, whether there may be some outside the building involved. They dont know as their trying to infer answers who and what else might be involved. The priority is making sure the situation is contained, people are safe, we get First Responders to be seen which it is clear for them to enter the building. Report of several maybe dozen gunshots heard, a lot of this early outreach of the incidence have to play with a little bit of a daunting b view because people hearing echoes of shots, shots fired by police, by the perpetrator, it is difficult to know exactly what happened. Bill have to squeeze in a quick commercial. We will talk to you on the other side of this commercial break. Canadian parliament is on lockdown, at least one soldier has been shot. Martha we are back covering inactive shooting scene ongoing at Parliament Hill in ottawa. One soldier was shot by the war memorial and we have seen the video of them tending to them. Try to help the wounded soldier that was hit. We also know the path taken across a Parliament Hill. Bill daly still with us on the phone. Thank you for standing by. We are also learning yesterday canada raised the threat level from low to medium just yesterday. As we know yesterday, soldiers run over by individual shot by police in quebec. We dont know if it is a result of that or not. Certainly as International Incidents overseas have unfolded and th supporter with the United States in these activities, we dont know the implication may be what other intelligence they are working on. As is still unfolding today as we know watching the news is certainly people involved, the police and the provincial police are highly skilled. They are very qualified people, im sure theyre going through this at a meticulous fashion. Some people in and around have to be relieved. Law enforcement doing with these situations. Martha some of what we are getting from accounts on the ground, according to one said he was running toward the center block, which is the building we are looking at right now on Parliament Hill. The men was being followed by Police Officers running after him and shouting center block, center block. According to this report, one of them attended the meeting saying he heard multiple shots fired possibly on the first floor. We have not been able to confirm whether or not the shots were fired inside this building and whether or not anyone else was hit inside the building. Although according to what we are seeing now, some are reporting coming in says a librarian in Parliament Said she saw the shooter walking through the halls with a rifle. So this story could get much more complicated. Martha wants to show the viewers a bit more perspective for what we are trying to piece together.
