Congressman asked mr. Kerry, is there al qaeda, people say they have gotten stronger. He said, no, i say officially they arent there. The main combat unit, alnusra, is a unit of al qaeda. They know about this. This is not pleasant for me to see this. While we communicate them and assume they are decent people he lies openly and knows that he lies. This is sad. Bill chief white who is correspondent ed henry on the north lawn starts our coverage. You wonder how comfortable whether it will be for the president today. Is white house reacting to putins accusation there . Reporter they are. To raise doubts whether the assad regime which he is close to was really behind the horrible chemical weapons attack on august 21st. Raising doubt about the al qaeda in the rebel groups and maybe the rebels would behind the chemical weapons attack. White house says they believe there are moderate elements of the rebels, Syrian Rebels and they think putin is flatout wrong. It will get awkward. June, president already arrived in russia. Will meet him on the sidelines. Putin back in june with the g8 summit in europe. Bottom line is, putin spent more time looking at his shoes than at president obama it seemed from some of the photos and body language. Theyre fighting not just about syria, about the Edward Snowden controversy. All this is playing out as the president is on the world stage. You have republicans like former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld charging with the president yesterday at the News Conference saying it was not his red line, it was not his credibility on the line that he now looks weak. Take a listen. This president has tried to find a way to blame everybody or anybody for everything. And leadership requires that you stand up, take a position, provide clarity and take responsibility. And i cant imagine him saying that he didnt draw the red line. But he, he did draw the red line. Reporter now for his part the president said at the News Conference yesterday he is still hopeful to make some progress with putin but obviously a lot of questions about the socalled reset in russian relations not exactly worked out way the white house wanted. Bill some years after that happened. President dealing with nsa revelations and snowden in russia as well. You imagine this would come up possibly too there. Reporter absolutely. Two leaders of the g20 summit, leaders of mexico and brazil there were allegations in recent days they were among the people the u. S. Was eavesdropping. President nieto of mexico and president rousseff of brazil. President defended the nsa programs while he was in sweden. Take a listen. I can give assurance to the publics in europe and around the world that were not going around snooping on peoples emails or listening in on their phone calls. What we try to do is target very specifically areas of concern. Reporter bottom line point, the president wanted to talk about the economy, Immigration Reform and other domestic legacy items but he is talking about nsa, syria, all those other issues. Very uncertain fate whether this resolution will pass in the house and senate, bill. Bill very good point. Headlines out of st. Petersburg when we get them. Ed henry leads our coverage at white house. Martha. Martha back here at home a syrian attack resolution could head for a full senate vote as early as tomorrow. A Senate Committee authorizing military action but not all the senators were on board. Seven of them chose to vote no on this most notably senators marco rubio and rand paul. Both of course likely 2016 president ial contenders. After some doubts, Top Republican senator john mccain who pushed for a stronger resolution, and heres a live shot as we look at the g20 as we wait for president obama to arrive. Senator mccain end up voting yes. Watch this. This makes it now a complete package of degrading his chemical capabilities, support for the Free Syrian Army and now changing the battlefield equation which now gives us a package which is a policy which i think will send a message to bashar assad. Martha hmmm. Theres the moment that weve been watching for. President obama just stepped out of the limousine, a handshake. Looked fairly friendly, that moment. Played out quite carefully no doubt. Look at all of the cameras and no doubt that picture will be seen quite a bit today because theres a lot of tension between Vladmir Putin, who has said flatout that he does not believe that we should take any action in in syria. He gone to far to call our secretary of state a liar. He believes that there is, putin believes there is al qaeda influence in the rebel group and john kerry saying that he believes the majority of the opposition is indeed not members of al qaeda. So a lot of tension in that room today as we continue to watch these World Leaders step on to the stage. Bill putin was asked about that body language just yesterday and he described it as a way he is fighting for he believes in and im fighting for what i believe and you can look at a picture any way you want and draw your own conclusion, but dont assume what subpoena hag or what were talking about based on a picture. Very interesting picture. With regard to the vote, two democrats voted no and a third democrat voted present. You wonder when it movers to the full Senate Whether or not it could seen pass at this point. The house is a whole different moment. Martha as you pointed out putins comments yesterday i wasnt elected to be pleasant. President obama wasnt elected to be pleasant with each other. Were elected to enforce policy and run our countries. Thats what theyre doing. Bill the meeting continues in russia. A top advisor to syrian president bashar assad speaking from damascus urging western nations to wait on a u. N. Report on the chemical attack in syria claiming it will show the assad regime was not behind it. Blaming the assault on al qaeda fighters. What happened on the, on august 21st is a massacre. One of the massacres perpetrated by the terrorists and extremists and this is not the first one. Every time a u. N. Commission comes to syria, every time a u. N. Investigation committee came to syria they perpetrate ad massacre and a crime. I think the Syrian People, the last concern of those who claim to be concerned about the safety of the Syrian People, they should come to syria and see what al qaeda is doing with the Syrian People and what killing, what crimes are perpetrated by al qaeda, by alnusra, by all th the same ones who you know, who did 9 11. Bill the administration is clear. They have not waiverred on this they believe the assad regime is behind the attack. They believe they have proof to show that that killed more than 1400 two weeks ago. Martha we continue to get such stunning and disturbing images in all of this. So how did we get to this point . Lets go back and take a look at this timeline. In april of 2011 the u. S. Slapped sanctions on syrias tell agency in washingtons First Response to the crackdown that assads government was putting forward to the antigovernment protesters during the arab spring. We saw so many countries cracking down on the protesters. It was particularly strong in syria. In july last year, syria said it could use chemical weapons in response to quote any external aggression that came against their government. They promised it would not be used on the socalled Opposition Forces. A month later, lets move forward, president obama warned assad. He said the use of chemical weapons, if we saw a bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being implemented that would be a red line that would change the calculus he said for the United States. He now claims that it did change that calculus for him. Lets go forward to march of 2013. Syrias government around the rebels accuse each other of launching a deadly chemical attack near the Northern City of aleppo. On august 21st, syrias opposition accused the Government Forces of gassing hundreds of people including women and children in the horrific images that we saw, many of whom were sleeping at the time and it was a scene that has really stirred so many to action and this past sat darings the president said that he authorized use of military force. He believes this is what we should do he said, but he wants to get the backing of Congress First and thats where we are today. Bill also there is new reaction from the Deputy National security visor on the president s plan for syria and whether or not the u. S. Will send soldiers in on the ground. Heres the exchange he had, listen closely, now with bret baier when asked about possible u. S. Assistance. That sounds like boots on the ground to me, tony. No, not boots on the ground in terms of soldiers. There is international organization, for example in a peaceful environment if theres peace an international organization, pursuant to the Chemical Weapons Convention that works on disposing of chemical weapons. The syrians themselves would have the ability to do that with equipment that could be brought in. There are different ways of doing it. There are not going to be american boots on the ground. Martha all right. So mr. Blinken also saying that he is certain that congress will decide in the end to support the president s plan. Well see. Bill quick look here too, martha, about whats happening on the ground in syria. Three different groups are fighting on two different sides. In yellow you have the regime stretching from the capital city of damascus, to homs the central area of the country. The other side, rebels, they have control of the city of aleppo, the largest city of of the country. Controlling this area down sear the southern border of jordan and one area of damascus. Northern fighters, and up around the northern border of turkey. These are the three areas that are watched now as the fighting goes back and forth. If there is a strike look for the central part of the country to take the brunt of that, damascus up to homs, which would appear many of the targets would be on behalf of the regime. Were watching all this. A couple weeks ago people thought you go in and hit them with a strike and the airport and airstrip and go home or you go after the chemical weapons. How do you do that and where have they moved now. All this is being factored what could or might happen in syria. Martha others believe with each passing day the dynamic changes on the ground in terms of who are the strongest among the rebel groups. Very complicated to understand all of these groups because the pentagon estimates because there are as many as 1200 different groups. Many support each other and are working together. Republican senators john mccain and Lindsey Graham support the Free Syrian Army, the fsa. That was formed in august of 2011, which many think was the moment to come in and back them. That did not happen at that time. It was formed by Army Defectors from assads regime and they were working to depose bashar assad at that point. The Opposition Forces claimed to have 100,000 fighters. Bill also here at home lawmakers split. They have gotten the answers, or have they . That they need from the administration. Well talk to a top member of the House Homeland Security committee. Peter king, republican out of new york, will join us live in a moment. His view as to where he stands today. Martha so this is the moment everybody wanted to watch. There have been many awkward and tense exchanges between president barack obama and president Vladmir Putin of russia and things are at a particularly tense juncture right now. So comes the president out of his limousine. Big handshake, very friendly at least outwardly so. These two have a lot to talk about. Vladmir putin saying yesterday, neither one of us was elected to be pleasant to each other. That is not what this is about. We have different policies and different beliefs how things should go. We know Vladmir Putin believes al qaeda is a major presence in the opposition and that president obama is a supporter really of this Free Syrian Army and a believer there is a viable, opposing force to assad that can be supported. So that is the moment everybody was waiting for from the g20. More to come as we move through the next couple hours in americas newsroom. Bill the timing is extraordinary. The summit is happening in russia, in st. Petersburg now. Were just getting rolling here. Danger on the road. Check this out. Oh bill moments after the emergency crews on scene of a car crash, one of the cars explodes. Debris went everywhere. Well show you how that turned out. Martha lawmakers on both sides of the aisle expressing skepticism on the involvement in syrias civil war. A heated issue. Where does it go . Congressman peter king joining us. Bill a lawmaker says he cant talk about syria without talking about benghazi. Benghazi. Thats next. [thinking] im still working. Hes retired. I hope hes saving. I hope he saved enough. Whether youre just starting your 401 k or you are ready for retirement, well help you get there. Jim, i adore the pool at your hotel. Ver had to make. Anna, your hotels have wondrous waffle bars. A Loyalty Program that requires no loyalty. Plus members can win a free night every day only at hotels. Com bill this hearing contentious yet again on syria. The president s top advisors facing tough questions and skepticism from republicans and democrats. Watch. It wont help al qaeda. It will further expose al qaeda but it will hold a dictator accountable to this critical standard. 24 would be a significant strike that would in fact degrade his capability. If we do nothing, what is the likelihood in your judgment that bashar assad will use chemical weapons as a routine weapon to turn the tide of this civil war . I think likelihood is very high. He would use them again. Not one member in my district in South Carolina or the emails of people that contacted my office say, go to syria and fight this regime. This debate, i might add to you, is also about congresss red line. You agreed to the Chemical Weapons Convention. Bill new york congressman peter king, listening to all this, republican member of the House Homeland Security committee and good morning to you. Good morning, bill. Bill americans at home watching this. They want to know what congress will do . Is the u. S. Going to, i know they dont like to use the word war but is that where were headed . Bill, i intend to vote for the resolution but right now im not at all certain that this 218 votes for this resolution and the president , i think weakens his case every day as far as trying to lineup support, yesterday saying that it is not his red line. It is congresss red line. The International Communitys red line. He has to show leadership and has to stand up and so far not doing it. Whether that should influence the vote the fact it does. If the president as commanderinchief is not showing strong leadership it is hard to bring along people undecided. I will talk to members about congress trying to encourage them to vote for this but im one person and it is up to the president to be much more forceful and not seem like he is trying to pass the buck on to somebody else. Bill you mentioned it. Here it is from yesterday. You will hear from 13 months ago. Watch. I didnt set a red line. The world set a red line. We have been very clear to the assad regime but also to other players on the ground that a red line for us is, we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized. That would change my calculus. That would change my equation. Bill august 2012 the second there. Why did he say what he said yesterday . I think for the same reason on saturday that he passed it on to congress. He seems to flinch when he is under pressure. He backs away and, you know, somebody should remind the president that he is president of the United States, not the president of the world. This International Community he talks about, somehow always trying to deflect responsibility f this goes well and vote passes and were successful in syria he will be claiming the credit saying it was his on operation all along. Whether it is harry truman, george bush, Ronald Reagan or john kennedy you have to assume responsibility early on and drive leadership forward. He is not doing that he is running away from a policy he is advocating at the same time. You cant have that type of schizophrenickic leadership. Bill were watching in the split screen. I know you cant see it. St. Petersburg with members of the g20 now gathering. Would you expect him to walk out of that summit with four or five, half a dozen leaders from around the world saying we support you, mr. President on syria . I would certainly hope so. Again he is very secretive what he is doing. I dont know what leaders im hoping for instance David Cameron would say at least he is personally supporting the president whether or not the British Government is. I dont know who he is working with. He should be, as president of the United States as leader of the free world, most dominant economic military power in the world we should be able to get a number of countries to stand with us. I hope the president does that. Whatever criticism of the president the fact he is my president , he is your president and i want him to succeed at that summit or that conference and one way to do it in the eyes of the world would come out with a number of leaders standing with him at least endorsing his policies even if theyre not taking military action. Bill peter king, republican from new york. Thank you. Martha bill oreilly has a message for conservatives who oppose action in syria. If the usa fails to act against assad, the unintended consequence a loss of respect for those that care about a just world. If we sit back and do nothing we set up a free fire zone where no weaponses are off limit. Biological will be next, mark my words. Martha does he have a point . A lot of discussion going on. We saw a little while ago David Cameron and the president having a moment together as well. No doubt the two of them have a quite a bit to talk about after the vote in the Parliament Went against an attack in syria. Well talk to kt mcfarland and ralph peters about the u. S. Russian relationship coming up in a few minutes from now. Cke in New Hampshire where theres been a major health care. Officials are warning at least 13 patients at a hospital may have been exposed to a rare fatal brain condition that is similar to mad cow disease. Laura ingle is following this live from our new york newsroom. Laura, how did the patients get exposed to this . Reporter getting out the word. The head of Public Health services in New Hampshire said the risk for these individuals is considered extremely low. However he added after expert discussion his team could not conclude there was no risk, adding this, we are taking the step of notifying patients and providing them with as much information as we can. Our sympathies are with all the patients and their families as this may be a confusing and difficult situation. Catholic Medical Center said it is working closely with the families to help them in any way possible and there are no neurosurges being scheduled until hospital officials have the autopsy results. Martha we have live coverage this morning of the g20 summit which of course were keeping a close eye on. Moments ago we saw what could be the shot of the day as president obama got out of the limousine. There it is. Everybody, all the heads of state were greeted this way. Vladmir putin waiting. Theres the handshake, nice and hearty as the two of them head into these meetings and obviously a lost tension between these two men. Just yesterday Vladmir Putin called our secretary of state john kerry a liar. They are beautiful liars and they might be december people and they are beautiful liars. The source had to do with al qaeda and their presence or relevance or activity within the Opposition Forces. Lets bring in doug schoen, former advisor to president bill clinton, radio talk show host. Both are fox news contributors. Good morning you guys. Good to see you here. Start with the g20 meeting, monica. I think everybody will read the body language as they did back in june when it was really uncomfortable between obama and putin and look, there are a lot of very thorny issues between our country. We have snowden and the nsa and now we have syria. Syria and one of Bashar Assads biggest patrons is russia and of course putin is protecting his client state. He is protecting bashar assad. So the conversation will be very thorny indeed. Of course remember that the russians are leading the charge in the u. N. Security council again. Martha exactly. Against any kind of military strike. Martha putin said you couldnt possibly do Something Like this without Coalition Backing and the united nations. Of course he knows he has a veto vote on. Exactly. The really sad thing from my point of view, that american first, is that the United States is losing prestige and influence around the world and the russians are winning. Lets be clear. Monicas analysis is exactly right. What im looking to see, can our president finally show leadership and make the moral, political and strategic case for why we need to go forward with the operation in syria . I think he has to and he needs to but it remains to be seen. Martha yeah. I mean, we had peter king on a moment ago, he basically said look, im out here in favor of this thing but the president is making my job, peter king, said, quite a bit harder, because he is basically dispersing his leadership on this. He is saying were all in this together and really protecting himself for a later date when if it doesnt work out he said, hey, you guys all voted for it too. Sharing the blame which is what obama routinely does. He has the legal ability to go ahead and act without congress. He decided last week, he looked around, looked at the u. N. , no support there. He looked at congress. They hadnt checked in on syria yet. He looked at the arab league. No support there for any strike. He realized he was out there completely alone on syria and he didnt like it one bit. Sew kicked the can to the congress. If Congress Denies him approval, he could say, look i really wanted to do it but they said no, wouldnt let me. If they give him approval that is the open question about what he does. Martha i want to go back to this oreilly talking points memo that really set off a firestorm of controversy about this whole discussion the other night. As he slammed conservatives that opposed military action in syria saying that disliking president obama is no reason to risk the u. S. Losing international respect. That is perspective on this. Heres a piece of that from tuesday night. Watch. Back home, we now have many conservative people willing to give assad a pass because they dont trust president obama. Ironically it was about 10 years ago that many liberal people did not want to move against saddam because they didnt trust president bush. Same mind set. Different ideology. President obama is correct in asking congress to affirm his decision to public niche assad. The world needs to see exactly how our system works. Martha monica, you were there. You were one of people he point ad finger at. What do you think . I love bill oreilly but i think is completely wrong. To single out conservatives is not right. You have countless democrats and liberals who are opposing this action. We dont oppose a strike on syria because we dislike or distrust this president. Were opposing the strike based on its merits. Going into syria is really bad idea. This is syria. You poke syria, you poke iran, you poke russia. The unintended consequences here are huge. The other part of this is, if you go in, on whose behalf are you strikeing . You could say well, this is punishment strike for the use of chemical weapons against bashar assad. Could you make that argument but i agree with doug, the president hasnt made that argument yet. If you go in and strike, even if its a limited strike you will degrade assads power. You will weaken him somehow. The question becomes, if you create a power vacuum who is best prepared to fill it . You see on the other side, al qaeda, muslim brotherhood, sundry other islamists who will be ready to step in. In that case, what do you get . You get chaos or islamism or some combination of both which is what we see in libya and egypt. Martha that caused conservatives and democrats to have concerns about this, doug. Because it isnt just a limited strike. There is no doubt, retaliation, whether it comes the next day or whether it comes six months later from iran. But theres a larger issue and that larger issue is the prestige of the United States. Bill oreilly is absolutely correct. The president did set out a red line. He made it clear what we would do and what we would not do. Politics ends at the waters edge. He has to own it. He does own it. He needs to own it. But were all in this together. I agree, he is playing politics but this is a bigger issue than politics. It is about the prestige and credibility of the United States. You cant violate a treaty, have the United States say were going to take an action and then stand down. Martha there are countless instances where chemical weapons have been used. They have been used 14 times in syria. His own administration verified it back in june. The question is what has changed, what dynamic changed so dramatically that john kerry and everybody else so vehemently that is clear to that one. We set out clear criteria from the commanderinchief what we were going to do if there is irrefutable evidence. There is irrefutable evidence. We have to act. To pick up dougs point about our credibility. I agree it is so critical. The problem this president is incoherent and failed across the board and in the middle east and elsewhere internationally for the last five years that our credibility is already shot. Why are we beginning now a new war in the middle east against syria . Syria of all places just to protect Barack Obamas face . Just to save him from embarassment because he walked out there with a red line . This is about the United States of america. Not barack obama. Which are not at stake here. No, they are at stake. They have nuclear weapons. Iran is developing nuclear weapons. Think about the red line that weve set for iran, if we dont enforce the red line in syria. It is scary . It is scary. On many levels. And freight points from both of you. Thank you. Martha doug and monica, thank you very much. Well see where this goes. All right. Thank you. Bill meantime were watching this hearing in the house. It turned into a grilling on benghazi. How one congressman changed the subject on secretary of state john kerry. Was he right . And i am not going to sit here and be told by you that i dont have a sense of what the judgment is with respect to this. Were talking about people being killed by gas and you want to go talk about benghazi and fast furious. [ male announcer ] may your lights always be green. [ tires screech ] and your favorite songs always playing. [ beeping ] may you never be stuck behind a stinky truck. [ beeping ] may things always go your way. But its good to be prepared. Thats merrill edge and bank of america. Martha a burning car explodes, sending people running for cover. Watch this. [siren] [screaming] martha Colorado Springs police say the car was burning after getting rearended by another vehicle on the highway. The driver suspected of crashing into the first car has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Bill there was a moment on the hill yesterday that stopped the syria hearing in its tracks. South Carolina Republican jeff duncan going after the issue of benghazi and the administrations response to it. And answers that have been lacking since then when questioning the secretary of state john kerry. Im going to finish, congressman. I am going to finish. When i was in the United States senate, i supported military action in any number of occasions. Including grenade darks panama. I can run a list of them. And i am not going to sit here and be told by you that i dont have a sense of what the judgment is with respect to this. Were talking about people being killed by gas and you want to go talk about benghazi and fast and furious. Absolutely want to t about benghazi where four americans lost their lives. I have sympathy for the people in syria and i think there should be a worldwide response but we should act cautiously before we act unilaterally. Were acting cautiously. So cautiously because the president of the United States was accused of not acting because he wanted sufficient evidence and build the case properly. Bill the argument went on from there. The terror attack happened on september 11th last year killing four americans including our ambassador chris stevens. You see them on the screen there. Steven hayes, fox news contributor. Good morning to you. Did duncan have a point . I understand his concerns. It is certainly the case we havent gotten all the answers from the state department and obama minute more broadly on the question of what happened in benghazi. That said, were debathe the possibility of going to war in syria. If it were me i would have spent my time asking questions about what the administrations plans are in syria because there are many questions in front of us about what they actually plan to do and what difference it will make. Bill thats a good point. Are you saying duncan was out of line with his question on benghazi . He can choose to ask whatever questions he wants. He is the congressman. He ran. He is representing his constituents, presumably they have an interest in these matters. Im just saying that i have, i think there are enough Unanswered Questions about what lays in front of us on syria, in particular, that i would have used my time to ask those questions and really press secretary kerry to resolve some of the inconsistencies in his own testimony from the day before, some Unanswered Questions that chairman of the joint chiefs of staff Martin Dempsey did not respond to. I would have chosen to use my time on that. Bill thats a good point too. But what duncan seemed to be saying your credibility in benghazi is going towards my vote now whether or not i authorize a military strike on syria. Look i think he is speaking for a lost members of the republican conference. There are republicans not just because of benghazi but if you look at the way the Obama Administration conducted affairs overseas particularly in this region who are not confident that the president will act the way that they think he should act in order to earn their vote on something as serious as going to war. Bill john bolton, two days ago, made the argument many on the right are making too and that is, if you give the authority to go after damascus and assad, if you give that power to the president , where will his head be on this issue next . What they talk about is the difference between friday and saturday of last week. And now what theyre talking about is the difference between a red line 13 months ago and a red line that was defined yesterday. How do you do that . Yeah. I think thats one of many things that are causing so many of the folks in the republicans in the house these troubles. Look, if you look at the way the landscape is in the House Republican conference, you got people who i say, rand paul, noninterventionists, and hawks likely to vote in favor of this. But youve got the vast majority of people, republicans in the house who are open to doing something, who certainly identify witthe need to help alleviate the slaughter, 100,000 dead in syria these days but are very worried about following this president because of the way he specifically, because of the way he is conducted himself on these issues in the course of his presidency, and, the fact that he cant and his senior National Security advisors cant provide a real understanding of what these specific military strikes will do and how they will lead to the improvement in the situation. Bill the next big wrinkle on the story will be an address most likely from the oval office to the American People. You look at some of these polls. Off oppose any sort of strike against damascus. Right. Bill that has to be the next sell. I will give you the last word. I mean its a difficult, it is a very difficult sell for the president because he hasnt been making a sustain case. Not just as if the syria problem rose two weeks ago when the president started talking about it. This is something unfolding for two years. Were talking about 100,000 dead syrians maybe more. Two million refugees. This has been a problem that has been going on for a long time and the president really has inbeen, hasnt been active on it. Bill listen, we talked a lot about duncan and how the right is reto this but there is big reaction on the left as well. Well see whether or not the split can be closed. Stephen hayes, thank thank you u and your time in washington. For viewers at home, hemmer foxnews. Com is the email or follow me on twitter billhemmer. Well get to a bya, because you asked next hour. Bill Arizona Governor jan brewer refusing to take no for an answer after fema rejected her request for federal aid. That money was intended to help homeowners pokepicking up pieces from the massive fire back in july. Fema saying when it comes to property loss the yarnell fire did not qualify because only nine homes were uninsured out of 10destroyed but the governor, jan brewer, sending president obama a letter to appeal that decision. More houses more structures that were destroyed. We know the water system will cost us a lot more money. We know there are far more people that were underinsured that we originally thought. There are people completely, totally uninsured. Given dynamics of rural area they live and i think its a complete and total different perspective. Bill what a loss this was. 19 elite hotshot firefighters were killed in the tragedy in arizona. Martha all right. Back here on the east coast, new york merrill candidate on former congressman Anthony Weiner back in the headlines and all over the videos on the internet for the wrong reasons. This time he got into a shouting match with a jewish voter and it happened just hours before celebrations marking one of the holiest days of jewish calendar. Apparently man called weiner a scumbag according to reports and disgusting over the sexting scandal. Take a look at it. Think about your wife . How could you take the person by the way, that is between me and her and my god. Not between you. That is not up to you. How could you betray her. Has nothing do with the relationship you have. Think about it. Think about what is normal. You are not superior. I never said i was superior. Think about a normal relationship. Where do you get the morally to judge me. There are certain norms that society has. Who judges, me, not you. Not you. You have no signs youre superior to me and you are not my god. Martha boy, oh, boy. Youre not superior to me. Youre not my god. The other man talking about norms in relationships. The Campaign Said there was a comment in the room about Anthony Weiner being quote, married to an arab. You dont hear that on this part of this video. But there are, they say that it was a reference to Anthony Weiners wife. He says he was just defending himself against a heckler. You know, i dont, i dont know that, he had a runin earlier at an event with some of the Senior Citizens in the community and called, something about, whatever you say, grandpa. Exchanges with people. Bill that was an event sponsored bit aarp. That was a jewish bakery i think in queens or brooklyn, was it yesterday . On the eve of the holy day for jews in america and around the world. Martha 7 in the latest Qunnipiac University poll. Bill the man loves to argue. At the end of that clip he will tell you, i dont back down. Thats not what i do. Martha will get emotional when it is appropriate. Bill so a Senate Committee are we done with that . Martha i think so. I think so. I think everybody is done wit. Bill were done for today. Stay tuned tomorrow. A Senate Committee passing a resolution to authorize military force in syria as leaders respond to the president , saying that he did not draw the red line. The president guests lost when he doesnt have a teleprompter in front of him which he obviously didnt last year. That is somewhat mystifying. I was asked about that yesterday. Maybe the president needs to look at what he said a year ago. It was very clear, it was not congress drawing a red line. He said, i have a red line. Bill live report on that comment from the hill on what is next. Martha the National Rifle association teaming with up with the aclu . Martha all right, so less than 24 hours after a senate panel passed a resolution backing the president s call for military action in syria, a sort of Unlikely Alliance is already forming to challenge that resolution in the senate today. Youve got liberal democrats and Tea Party Republicans and libertarians opposing American Intervention in syrias civil war. But then you have the administration really pressing on, holding yet another round of closed door briefings today for lawmakers to show them some of the classified information that they think will sway them. Youve got secretary of state john kerry suggesting that the president will address the American People on this which theres been a lot of pressure to do, and he believes that will happen over the next several days, and that is how we start a brand new hour of americas newsroom on a busy day. Im martha maccallum. Bill im bill hemmer, good morning. The senate coming back early from the its summer break to start working on this resolution. Committee members admitting there are still serious concerns that need to be addressed. The president cannot go to war unilaterally without congressional authority. This is what john kerry has been asked, if you lose the vote, will you adhere to the verdict . John kerry shouldnt be let off the hook, the president shouldnt be let off the hook, and congress shouldnt be let off the hook. The constitutions very explicit, its congressional authority. It is not president ial prerogative to go to war. The fact that we got from a spectrum that goes from john mccain who is one of the most hawkish members of the senate to dick durbin who is one of the most progressive members of the senate gives you a sense that we have struck the appropriate balance in this resolution. Im confident the president of the United States can make a strong case to the American People as long as they can be confident that its no boots on the ground, that it is not a repeat of iraq and afghanistan. Im confident the president , speaking directly to the American People, can succeed. The case is compelling. I take very seriously the president s promise that we will not be putting boots on the ground in syria. I have been to too many funeral, visited too many disabled veterans to ever want to see us do that again except when absolutely necessary for americas survival. Martha boy, good question, right . Chief Congressional Correspondent mike emanuel is live on capitol hill this morning, so what more do we know, mike, about the opposition to use this force authorization . Reporter well, martha, the politics of this are fascinating. Youve got conservatives like marco rubio and rand paul voting no in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as did democrats tom udall from new mexico and chris murphy from connecticut. Weve heard from a variety of lawmakers who say their constituents are saying no on the use of force. The senators ive talked to are receiving very negative comments from their phone calls from their constituents, and im picking that up as i go around my state. So theres not the American People are very dubious about a deeper involvement in the middle east. So if that is done, a clear, articulated reason for it and justification needs to be made. Reporter that is why john mccain is calling for an oval office address. Youll recall the president made the case in the rose garden on a saturday afternoon of labor day weekend, and so supporters of taking action in syria are saying it would help if he did more. Martha . Martha well, it sounds like he may. And what have we heard, mike, from those who support the measure . Reporter i should note that the Senate Intelligence committee is going into a closed session now to try to make the case to lawmakers, showing them some of the classified information. Some will back this measure to, essentially, have the president s back. Others who are National Security types are saying they believe americas credibility is on the line. We have held as the americans for a long time that chemical weapons have no place. And i think if we dont do this not only is americas this isnt about president obama. As i said, i disagree with how hes run the middle east vehemently. This is about the United States of america and what our word means. Reporter the senate will take a procedural step next week, setting up a debate and vote sometime next week in the United States senate. Martha . Martha mike, thank you. We are going to talk to congressman kinzinger who you just heard from. Does he think the president has sold this plan to the American People in an appropriate and adequate way for us to take action . Thats coming up just a couple of minutes from now. Bill so we have one vote on the record already, 107. It was far from being on party lines though. In the yes column, you had republicans john mccain and jeff flake from arizona, bob corker too. The rest were democrats including bob menendez out of new jersey. On the no side, democrat tom udall and christopher murphy, the rest were republicans including marco rubio and rand paul who you just heard a moment ago, a staunch critic of military intervention in syria. Martha so one democrat not voting either way. Ed markey voted present. Not clear whether hes actually opposed to the plan. He has taken some heat for voting present. One local paper calling it, quote, a profile in courage while his republican rival called it simply embarrassing. Bill what is next . What happens when this vote hits the senate floor, to say nothing of what may happen on the house. Bret baier here on the fox news channel, good morning to you. I guess well take it one step at a time because the senate will have a voice on this, the house will, and then you have to see what the president does after that. In its current form in the senate, would this pass . Everything were hearing on capitol hill says no, in its current form. But theres some technical logistics that have to be set up first. Just to go a little bit deeper than mike emanuel just said there, tomorrow senator reid will call the senate back into session, a pro forma session, were told. He has to get unanimous concept to put this resolution on the calendar for monday. Everyone has to say, yes, lets go forward. Then its on the calendar. Then were hearing democrats and republicans in the senate want to have policy lunches on tuesday to talk about possible amendments or how this is going to go forward. Weve heard democratic senator pat leahy say there will be amendments to this resolution. What those are, we dont know. So that probably takes you into wednesday before you really get to the heart of the matter in the senate. The house is a whole different picture. You had nancy pelosi yesterday, bill, saying we could be weeks away from finishing the debate and vote in the house. Bill she said that . That pushes in san francisco. Bill to the end of september, if its weeks away. It does. And september 30th is the end of the funding for the u. S. Government. There has to be another resolution, either a continuing resolution or a passing actual budget items to fund the u. S. Government as of september 30th. You get into the whole question of paying for this, the sequester, the 55 billion additionally that will be taken out of the pentagon budget because of the sequester. All kinds of questions about paying for this comes on top of bill yeah, thats a great point. And when chuck hagel said yesterday itd be in the tens of millions of dollars, i dont know when weve ever done anything that cheap, if tens of millions of dollars these days is considered cheap. I also ask you about the commander in chief. I want you to listen to this and and tell me how it was spoken in sweden, but whats the reaction in washington to the president s comment here . I didnt i didnt set a red. The world set a red line. When i said in a press conference that my calculus about whats happening in syria would be altered by the use of chemical weapons which the overwhelming consensus of humanity says is wrong, that wasnt saying i just kind of made up, i didnt pluck it out of thin air. Theres a reason for it. Bill republicans say they were a bit confused by that comment. What were democrats saying . What did you pick be up on that, brett . Not only republicans, you had former senator bob kerrey of nebraska on another channel yesterday saying hes totally confused by the administrations take on all of this. The question was here in washington if the world set the red line and the president didnt set the red line, where is the world now . Where are all the allies stepping up alongside the u. S. . And thats really a question that has been asked on capitol hill and all over washington over the past few days. Bill ill bet it has. Looking forward to whatever comes of this today, bret, thanks, bret baier from washington. Martha interesting that former defense secretary robert gates is coming out in support of president obama and his call for action in syria. Remember, gates served as the secretary of defense in both the Obama White House and also in the george w. Bush white house. In his statement on this, he said, quote whatever ones views on current u. S. Policy towards syria, failure by congress to approve the request with would, in my view, have profoundly negative and dangerous consequences for the United States not just in the middle east, but around the world. Both now and in the future. Bill so were also keeping an eye on paris, france, and the french parliament. France is the only country saying they might be a part of military action in syria. The Prime Minister says his country will not launch any military assault against syria by itself. A debate sparked by president obamas decision to seek congressional approval for a strike. Allies of french president say no decision on military action will take place before the u. S. Congress votes on that, and that could be, as bret was just talking, a week from now or even possibly weeks, plural, from now. Towards the end of the month. Martha that is a hong time. A lot of people feel there should have been a strike that was then explained later. Big discussion on this going on on capitol hill, and what about whats going on in st. Petersburg . You can kind of feel the love, cant ya . President obama welcomed with a nice big, hearty handshake by president putin. So what will be discussed between these two men . They are at opposite ends on the issue of syria. Bill also the nra along with the aclu, why are they joining forces . Well explain that. Martha and a wouldbe robber gets a taste of his own medicine. Look at this. Wait until you see what happens after that. He picked the wrong war vet to mess with in this. He started pulling the gun out from behind him and said you need to give me all your money. All right, well, back to the uncomfortable moments that are unfolding over syria at the g20 which is right in st. Petersburg, russia, so even the location is a very tense spot in this terms in what were going through right now, because putin has, of course, sent Missile Defense technology to the assad regime in the past, and just a day before president obamas arrival, the russian leader was suggesting a military strike without u. N. Approval which, of course, we wont get because of russia is something that he, quote, has plans to deal with, whatever that means. Kt mcfarland and ralph peters, good to have both of you with us today. Kt, let me start with you. How do you think this is going to go when Vladimir Putin and president obama have a little more time together than just the handshake we just saw. I think putins been dancing around obama for the last five years, hes going to continue to do so. The conversation that president obama should have with him, though, is say, look, lets not talk about syria, missile shields, lets talk about russias economic future. Russia, you need to export oil and natural gas. You need western technology to develop new oil fields in eastern siberia. You need western technology to build the new Liquified Natural Gas plant. You also need Foreign Investment if youre going to do any of these things. We really control those. And if you want our help, if you want to have Economic Prosperity in the years ahead, lets find a way to Work Together on a lot of these issues. Because guess what, mr. Putin . If not, youre looking at economic ruin the same way that the soviet union collapsed because the price of oil collapsed. Without those oil and natural gas exports, youre broke. And you know what . Were going to even do one more on you, were going to go into that business ourselves, were going to become with your biggest competitors. Martha its an interesting argument, you know, to take it to the big picture and the big level of u. S. Economic dominance and western economic dominance, theyre having very tough times in ways in russia, and they love to bluster and, you know, talk the big story, but theyve got some complicated economic situations going on there, ralph. Well, today, for now russias in better economic shape than we are. Theyre not running these huge deficits. But, you know, i look at this, and the worlds topsyturvy. We have, the world is on today the world is on Vladimir Putins side about syria. The world doesnt want us to go in. Vladimir putin, hes a thug, but hes defending the christians and other minorities in syria, and president obama essentially is willing to provide u. S. Armed forces, power, air power, cruise missiles in what amounts to support of alqaeda. Its a crazy world. Obama hasnt thought it through. And i dont want like putin i dont like putin, but i respect that guy. He is tough, he delivers what he says hell deliver, he knows his people, he presents himself as a real heman, but he lives up to it. Our president talks tough, but in a children. Hes gutless. In a lynch, hes gutless. Martha wow. Is he right, kt . Hes absolutely right. The best example of that, there was a g8 summit in dublin in spring, and both obama and putin wanted to use the gym at the same time. And, apparently, they couldnt share the gym. So obama got first dibs on the gym. You know what putin did to one up . He said to the photographers in the press corps, follow me. He went to an icy dublin lake, ripped off his shirt and proceeded to do the breaststroke so that the pictures were of the miss lahr, tough, heman putin, and there were no pictures of obama in the gym shorts. Martha you go back to the moment that we all remember when you look back at the relationship between the United States and russia and the president leaning over to medvedev and saying, look, after my election im going to have a little more flexibility on this Missile Defense thing, because we know and theres a picture we know that you guys are not comfortable with some of the Defense Operations we want to deploy for our friends in eastern europe. And then you look at the fact that syria is deploying Missile Defense technology to syria, and, ralph, you know, it looks like were getting walked all over in that venue as well. Sure. Because, again, putin will live up to what he says. If we destroy Syrian Military technology, putin will replace it. Let me put the relationship in an everyday perspective for you. Putin is a classic sadistic schoolyard bully, and obamas the geeky kid with the thick glasses and the armful of books. And putin enjoys beating on obama, and obama will always give up the lunch money, always. But let me theres a very, very short poem by a. E. Houseman that just nails this. The russian bear is huge and wild, it has devoured the infant child. The infant child is not aware it has been eaten by the bear. There you have putin and obama. Martha well, we shall see. The president has said that putins the bored schoolboy in the back of the room, so the school analogies are flying all around this situation, and so much of this is going to come down to really, i think, the American Peoples perception of who is on the other side here. I know, ralph, you believe that it is primarily alqaeda. John mccain argues that it is not, and there are some very disturbing images on the front of the New York Times this morning and going around the internet that are going to play into the Public Opinion on this as well. Kt, thank you so much, and, ralph, thank you for the poem, and thank you for your insight this morning. [laughter] always poems for you. March arkansas a martha a little flavor to americas newsroom, which we do appreciate. Bill this meeting is underway in st. Petersburg, and we dont have much information out of it. We saw the leaders go inside, but there have yet to be any news leaks on the outside yet. But when there is a press conference or somebody come toss a microphone, well bring that no you. Serious new concerns about the health care law, could it mean a run on doctors in your area . Well let you know. Martha how about this one . Shes the governor of South Carolina, but nikki haley is not immune to a classic Early Morning blunder. What happened, how do you get locked out of the Governors Mansion . Martha all right, weve all been there, right . Nikki haley locked herself out of the Governors Mansion. She walked out in her bathrobe, the door locked behind her. She was trying to get her kids off to school. She tweeted about it, what not to do, getting locked out of the Governors Mansion in your robe while sending the kids off to school. I think it would have been more fun if she put a picture there. She says, you know, such a day in the life. One time i, i put the calendar, you know, with everybodys stuff in it, like all the school information, everyone in the car to go to the first day of school, put it on the top, buckled the kids in and took off. A neighbor returned it days later with most of the stuff, thankfully. Bill i hate when that happens. Youd think the governor would think maybe, you know, might be somebody waiting outside to take a picture of the governor in her bathrobe in the morning. Martha i want to see the picture. Bill as we gear up for the rollout of president obamaS Health Care law, there are new concerns about Rural Communities attracting doctors. Will they get the service they need . Alicia acunas live in denver on this. Good morning. Reporter good morning, bill. Theres a lot of pressure on physicians like dr. Jeffrey bacon who youll meet here. He lives in rural colorado and the is in high demand. I mean, we see people from sydney, nebraska, we see people from kansas, we see people all over the region that drive 60, 80 miles to come see a physician. Reporter dr. Bacons office is located in the middle of the far flung plains of eastern colorado. The town of sterling has 15,000 residents and is the largest city in a vast region. You take care of the whole gamut, anywhere from deliveries all the way to nursing home patients. So its a hard job, but its very rewarding. Reporter providing Health Care Services in Rural America is becoming more of a challenge with young folks heading to urban areas, populations in places like sterling are getting older, and the people that care for them disappearing. The futures very worrisome in terms of are we going to be able to keep the smaller hospitals that are out in the local communities . Not only financially, but also struggle in terms of having qualified Health Care Practitioners that are willing to live that rural life. And this is another ambulance reporter when the regions only private Ambulance Service went under two years ago, sterlings Fire Department stepped in. Where we were able to utilize our station as part of an ambulance station. So that saved the county quite a bit of money. Reporter however, the departments response area increased from 600 to 2,000 square miles. When it comes to the president S Health Care plan, there are concerns in these Rural Communities that it will be an additional burden, especially when it comes to the recordkeeping. Bill . Bill listen, weve been hearing that for a long time too. Alicia, thank you. Were about to find out how in the end it will meet reality. Alicia acuna on that story in denver. October 1st, it begins. Martha . Martha well, theres a new lawsuit facing the nsa from the nra. What guns and phone surveillance have in common. Bill also, a new round of protests by workers at the the largest retailer in the country. What in this the might mean for shoppers. Martha and find out what its like to live through a helicopter crash. No thank you. An amazing survival story, oh, my goodness. Thats coming up, well be right back. Before mike could see his banking and investing accounts on one page. Before he could easily transfer funds between the two in real time. Before he could even think about planning for his daughters future. Mike opened a merrill edge investment account and linked it to his bank of america bank account to help free up plenty of time for the here and now. Thats the wonder of streamlined connections. Thats merrill edge and bank of america. Bill there is new fallout from the nsa phone surveillance program, and its creating a rather Unusual Alliance in the court. The nra is joining forces with the American Civil Liberties union. The nra with the aclu in a lawsuit to end the program. The nra argues that the database is like one big gun registry, and the government will be able to to track all of its movements. Tamara holder, fox news contributor, david webb, host of the david webb show on sirius xms patriot channel, tea party 365 cofounder and a fox news contributor. Good morning. Morning, bill. Bill so, david, probably not the kind of people youd see on the same invitation to the same party, dont you think . No, not usually. But look, the aclu can fall into the right thing every once in a while. There was a time when they actually did that. They really have standing here because, one, theyre a customer of verizon, so they have standing in court. Number two, were talking about a government that has never been known, and notice the sarcasm in my voice, to misuse the data. The irs targeting of conservative and proisrael groups which is still going on, by the way. So here the nsa the nra files an amicus brief because theyre concerned that lawful gun owners whose data is being gobbled up by the nsa, but the expansion since 2009 under the Prism Program and the Obama Administration means that we have an out of control bureaucracy, and nsa that is not within the guidelines that were set forth for it to operate. Bill so you would argue that they have a legitimate case here, and its not just out of paranoia, right . No. Theres a legitimate case because of the actions that have happened. Bill tamara, does dave have a point here . Well, he does, but unfortunately with his tea party views, he likes to mix things up this isnt a tea party issue. Let me finish, david. Unfortunately, this is a separate issue from the irs scandal. This is an issue that does affect all americans regardless of party lines, and this has nothing to do with politics whatsoever. This has to do with Fourth Amendment right to privacy that is invading every single person. And so the nra is, regardless if youre progun or not, is coming in in support of the aclu saying, look, were all customers of verizon here, and what the government is doing is not only collecting the phone records, but theyre also using it to create this, like, metadata and bill i get the point. What has this got to do with the tea party, tamara . Well, no. David brought up the fact that this is, that the government is known for its behaviors including the irs scandal and whatever. I mean finish. What im talking about, tamara, is an example im talking about an example of how a bureaucracy acts, and right now, today, they have not changed the methodology at the irs, so the targeting continues. No, no, no bill hang on, let him finish. Theyre able to use data this that way, then the nsa the nra and the aclu and all americans, which is where we agree, have a right to be concerned bill tamara, i dont think thats the argument youre making here. I mean, you sound suspicious yourself, to me, over this. Well, no. I am suspicious of all of this behavior by the nsa and by the government, and also in their own filings they said that when americans make a call, the government said this, when americans make a call, they lose their expectation of privacy because they dont really know who theyre calling. Thats absurd, its preposterous, and every american left or right shown upset about this. Bill to both of you, david, you said the aclu has standing, i seem you leave assume you believe the nra has standing too. Can they win this case . They will win this case. Lawless is not a leftright issue. I find it interesting that the left are suddenly, not just tamara and im not putting her in this list but many are against, are for the nsa which is an electronic form of stop and frisk. Weve got to look at what our government is doing under the constitution. I agree. I agree with that. And we have to also look at what, just what the constitution is and how far the government can go and also what their positions are. Like i said, in their filing they said we lost an expectation of privacy when we made a call. That goes against all american bill understand the point youre making. Tamara, can they win this case . Yes or no . I think so. The only problem is that the aclu is a former verizon customer. They may have a problem in standing with that, but otherwise i think its a good case. Bill all right. I cant wait for the press conference when the nra and the aclu walk out there together. That will be something to see. [laughter] tamara, thank you. Thanks to you, dave can, as well. Martha terrifying video of what its like to be in a helicopter crash. Take a look. Wow. So the chopper got caught by a gust of wind, is what were learning about this. The pilot lost control and went down. Incredibly, everybody walked out of this with only minor injuries. But i bet theyre not rushing to get on a helicopter again. That is something that scares me. Helicopters scare me. Bill that photographer had to be tied down there, otherwise hes going right out that door, taking the pictures the way he was. That is a hard landing. Martha it was a hard landing. Thankfully, everybodys okay. Bill so in a moment here, were going to move to the commute that was well, if you thought it was tough today, check this out. A hundred cars in a massive pileup that left some drivers trapped inside for hours. What is going on there . Martha oh, my gosh, look at that. And as the president tries to make his case for military strikes against syria, were going to take a look at the claims that he just isnt doing a good job of selling people on this idea, thats what his critics are saying today. Well talk about that and debate what he could do to try to make his case to some reluctant lawmakers and even some of our allies. The president of the United States is not making the sales calls. Secretary kerry did a great job of laying american interests out, but president obama, its almost like his hearts not fully in it. Its the right thing to do but, look, hes out there not selling this to people. Bill were getting more reaction in the senate, republican senator from maine Susan Collins on her way to work this morning, just moments ago with our camera crew on the hill, talked about how you could go after assad and his government without using military action. Have a listen here, and well see how cautious she is at the moment. That i have asked is whether were looking at this issue too narrowly. This is not a choice between doing nothing and doing a military strike. There are other ways to put pressure internationally on the assad regime to isolate him that might be more effective and would not involve the use of military action. Bill you wonder, given that answer, whether a no vote at the moment. Remember what bret told us 40 minutes ago, that if the vote were to happen now in the u. S. Senate, there are Big Questions whether or not it would pass in the senate, the house notwithstanding. Susan collins, at the moment, is undecided. Martha so all of this raises a lot of questions about how the president is doing in selling his plan, because just yesterday he said that its not just his reputation and his credibility thats at stake here. Listen to this. My credibilitys not on the line. The International Communitys credibility is on the line. And america and congress credibilitys on the line because we give lip service to the notion that these International Norms are important. Martha the president said that if the red line was crossed, there would be action. Then he said the red line was crossed x he believes that the United States should act in this case, and im joined now by illinois gop congressman Adam Kinzinger whos a member of the House Foreign Affairs committee and was in that hearing yesterday. Congressman, welcome. Good to have you here. Good to be here, thank you. Martha you know, i saw you last night, you were talking to greta last night and talking about how the president is doing in selling this plan and selling his belief and his commitment to this. How is it feeling right now in the house of representatives . Look, it doesnt feel good right now for this thing to pass. As you know, i support it, i think its the right thing to do. America has put down a red line for three decades whether its the gulf war, whether it was the nofly zones in iraq. But when the president speaks on this, i dont see a level of real passion to say this is what we have to do. I see what ive seen in the president for the last five years, a man that when he talks about International Affairs hedges, the same guy that said were going to surge into afghanistan at the same breath said but were pulling all the troops out in 2014. So, look, while i agree that the strike needs to happen because Bashar Al Assad needs to see that the costs of using chemical weapons exceeds the benefits of using chemical weapons, the president s got to do a better job of selling this. Secretary kerrys doing a great job of talking about what the interest is, but hes a secretary of state. The president of the United States has got to be the person. Listen, i dont know where he is, i dont know what hes doing. Hes not selling this. Martha well, hes in st. Petersburg, and hes maybe going to try to sell the idea to Vladimir Putin, trying to get him to come to his side. That sounds very unrealistic about this point. Youre chuckling, i guess you agree. Yeah. Keep hitting the reset button, maybe eventually russia will come around. Putin will stall, he will try to bide time for his great ally, Bashar Al Assad. The International Community, i think the president should try to sell this to the American People first. Look, i wish him luck at the g20 summit, i hope he can bring more folks onboard, but the reality is is this, anything in front of the united nations, russias going to shut down. And the reason our allies arent following us is because our allies look for American Leadership and follow it. They dont see leadership right now, so what do they have invested in this to back us . I mean, the president of the United States has to be a salesman for what American Power and strength around the globe means. Martha its very interesting. Im hearing from you and we heard from peter king earlier, two Republican House of representative members who will be voting on this, that youre waving your arms saying, you know, mr. President , were on your side. We are supporting you in this. But we need you to lead the way yeah. A sophomore congressman cant, a sophomore congressman cant sell this to the American People. The president of the United States needs to do it. And im going to continue to go out and talk about the need to do this because i think its right. But the president s got to do the same thing. Martha you are former air force special operations, and im curious what you think about the pictures that are emerging today of rebels in Syria Holding guns over shirtless men who are crouching in front of them. Its a horrific picture on the New York Times, and theres no doubt its going to get a lot of attention from the American People, and theyre going to say these are the guys you want to back . Sure. And i still serve in the Air National Guard as a major. Ill tell you what, yeah, theres no doubt that the rebels probably 1520 of them was the latest estimate i heard are actually extremists. But that means a huge majority are moderates and people that really want a secular government. This is why two years ago the president of the United States needed to come out and have cia vetting opposition groups for those that are supportive of american causes and want to get rid of Bashar Al Assad with a democratic government, and he didnt do anything. He was absent. He put this red line out a year ago. I didnt want hear people complain about it then, by the way. But hes been completely absent in terms of supplying the rebels. Are there bad factions in syria . Yes. Is there any good outcome to syria . Not really at this point because the president s been absent in leadership. Martha you raise a great point and something ive thought about, did we miss our moment in syria . And if you do miss your moment, can you get it back, and is it more dangerous to act than not to act . Well, i dont know if weve missed our moment. I think there is still a shimmer of hope, a glimmer of hope there. But on this specific thing that were debating here in congress, the purpose isnt necessarily, as the president stated, to get involved in the middle of the civil war. Thats something that has to be debated among the administration and the army side of things. Do we send a message to the world that chemical weapons where children are aware of the fact that theyre suffocating to death at the end of their life, are we going to send a message to the rest of the world that this is unacceptable as weve said its been since world war i . Americans have never faced chemical weapons on the battlefield since world war i because weve made very clear that this is something we do not tolerate. So if assad has got to know that any use of chemical weapons will be met with a cost that far exceeds anything he can gain by using them. Martha congressman kinzinger, thank you very much. We hope youll come back. Many thanks. You bet, thank you. Martha good luck. Bill happening now rolls your way, and jenna lee stands by for a preview. Jenna high there, bill. Talk about tension overseas, president obama facing off with president putin today, putin calling secretary of state john kerry a liar x the state department is respond toking that, so were off and ready to go. Also a big guest today, senator john mccain will join us top of the noon on his decision to vote yes on an initial vote for military intervention in syria. Were going to find out why, whats next, thats all coming up on happening now. Bill top of the hour. Thanks, jenna. Workers from the Worlds Largest retailer are going on strike. What they want and how it could cost you more next time you go to walmart. Martha and one robbery suspect wishing that he could take it all back. [ woman ] dear chex cereal, youve done the impossible. Made glutenfree cereals in a bunch of yummy flavors. Like cinnamon chex, honey nut chex, and chocolate chex. Were in cereal heaven. So thanks. From the mcgregors, cause we love chex. Now you can give yourself a kick in the rear v8 vfusion plus energy. Natural energy from green tea plus fruits and veggies. Need a little kick . Ooh couldve had a v8. In the juice aisle. Martha this is quite a story. A wouldbe armed robber, watch this, comes in with his gun. The other guy grabs his arm. He went into this missouri convenience store, demanded all of the cash in the register, and then you saw it didnt take long for him to realize he was both outsenatorred and outgunned by the man behind the counter who happened to be a u. S. Veteran with three decades of military experience. I pulled my weapon up and put it up against his mouth and told him you need to get out of here before i blow your head off. Backed right on out the door. Martha that works. See you later. Development really want the money i dont really want the money, i just want to get out of here alive. Hes a lucky man, right . But he thinks the suspect may be even welcomier because he luckier because he survived the confrontation with him. Dont mess with that guy. Bill were keeping an eye today on Walmart Stores nationwide as workers and supporters are planning a walkout. Fox Business Networks Elizabeth Macdonald working the story here in new york. Good morning to you, emac. Hey, good to be with you. Coast to coast, were seeing potential protests coming out of walmart workers. Los angeles, chicago, boston, dallas, denver, colorado, new york city and, basically, this is one of the biggest walmart protests since black friday, the day after thanksgiving. This is the latest in a series of actions by unions and activist groups. In this comes fast on the heels of a fast food worker strike last week, bill. Bill emac, im watching the video here. Theres going to be a lot of people on the sidewalk today. What do they want . They want higher pay. Theyre essentially saying they should be paid 25,000 annually. Thats a bit higher than the 18 20,000 a year that they get. Walmart is denying any wrongdoing here. Theyre essentially saying they do give pay and benefits. The workers also saying to walmart you have to reinstate the 80 or so workers that were disciplined for those black friday protests. Apparently, 20 may have been fired according to the protest groups, saying 20 workers were fired over those protests on black friday. The problem here, bill, is that if the Union Movement wins and the unionization of walmart workers begins, walmart may raise prices on its goods. It may also turn to automation where they basically have technology, meaning selfcheckout of customers outs of its stores, and union dues would have to be taken out of the pay here. So this is a big controversy. Were going to be tracking this developing story throughout the day. Back to you, bill. Bill fewer jobs and maybe higher prices. Yeah, thats right. Bill thanks, Elizabeth Macdonald, on that story. Martha there are a lot of concerns today about the effectiveness of a strike on syria. Would it be enough to disarm and to degrade, as we have heard, assad enough that it would prevent any future Chemical Attacks . Thats the big question here. Or would Ground Troops need to go in to secure those chemical weapons . Well be right back. Bill millions of american travelers might soon find their next trip to the airport a much faster experience. Much and pleasant. The tsa will expand a program called, precheck. That allows preapproved passengers to avoid removing shoes and belts and laptops before the screening. That program now expected in 60 more airports this year. It is already out there. Martha sounds good to me. Look at this. This will not sound good to you. A 100 car pileup across the pond. Police blame low visibility to Early Morning fog and wet roads. Look at these people. No reports of any fatalities thankfully but about 200 people were hurt and eight of them were injured seriously we understand. You can see sort of a triage unit they set up on the scene. Wow. Some really badlydamaged cars. Police say some people could still be trapped they think in their vehicles. Bill fog. Seen that here in this country. My tip of the day, by the way, if you havent done it yet, sign up for precheck. It will save you a lot of hassles. Not all the sometime at airport. Martha i like standing in the line, taking off shy shoes, watch, belt, everything. I dont know what i would do with my time. Bill you could bypass it. It will make your day. That is our tip of the day. Martha thanks for being here, everybody. Happening now starts right now. Well see you back here tomorrow. Have a great day. Jon fox news alert on the showdown over syria.
