Threatens to overshadow the highstake meeting, mr. Trump taking time to address some of the claims made by the author. He said he interviewed me for three hours in the white house, it didnt exist, its in his imagination, i consider it a work of fiction and i think its a disgrace. Arthel live from the white house with more, rich, President Trump has been defending intelligence since this morning, tell us more. Since early via twitter, the president mentioned hes very smart and a very stable genius. This is all in response to Michael Wolff and his book and interviews claiming that those surrounding the president believe hes unfit for office so the president then detailed his resume. I went to a i had a situation where i was an excellent student, came out and made billions and billions of dollars and became one of the top business people, went to television and for ten years was a tremendous success as you probably have heard, ran for president one time and won. The president s attorney sent a legal notice to wolff and publishers asking to halt, responding by moving up, arthel. The busy agenda at camp david, tell us more about that. They have an immediate deadline on january 19th, republicans say they also discussed longterm budgeting military spending and immigration and thats where the president got the most specific about his agenda and what he wants to see, as you know, the president has phased out or is phasing out daca, thats the obamaera Protection Program for those brought to the United States illegally as children. The president says that republicans want to extend those protections but in exchange, they also want to end the chain migration and visa lottery program. He says he wants additional spending on border security. To spend 18 billion and the president said in the end mexico will pay for the wall in some way, shape or form. The president also mentioned north korea, as for negotiations they hope to talk to one another and the president who had all those aggressive tweets. They are now urging the department of justice to investigate parts of criminal justice. Former british spy who authored the largely unverified trump dossier funded by the Clinton Campaign and dnc. Jason chaffetz, fox contributor talked about list earlier on fox news. When you get to the point when you actually make a criminal referral, then youre saying to the department of justice, we have seen the information, we have seen the evidence, we believe there is more than a probable cause to prosecute this crime. Eric so what could be in this, caroline, hi, caroline. Hi to you, lie to go criminal investigators is the crime he may have broken. Under u. S. Code it is illegal to lie to a federal agent about ongoing investigation. In this case graham and grassley want to know whether steel lied about contact with reporters over dossier, the content is disputed. The criminal referral makes no judgment on that. Steel was on the payroll opposition girm fusion gps and the Clinton Campaign. Graham and grassley layed out suspicions against steel. Many republicans wan to know if the dossier sparked investigation into possible collusion between Trump Campaign and russia. This all goes to how did this investigation into this collusion begin with law enforcement, what was Christopher Steel role and who was he working with the Justice Department people. This is the first criminal investigation. They are pure use over this specially diane feinstein. What are they calling this request . She tells politico, this is, quote, clearly another effort to deflect attention from what should be the committees top priority determining whether there was collusion trump and russia and whether there was subsequent obstruction of justice, richard says this is design toddies credit the fbi in their investigating of trump investigation. Eric call line, caroline, thanks so much. Arthel mexico will pay for it in some form, this just one day after the White House Asks Congress for 18 billion to fund the walls extension. Here is former trump aide now Fox News Contributor dr. Sebastian gorka on fox friends. I know its shock to go have politician to make proms during campaign and who keeps them but thats donald trump and one thing i can assure you is that wall will be built. Arthel Garrett Tenney has more, garret. First detail blueprint of trumps vision for wall, major expansion of border security. Wall street journal with copy of document which shared with a number of senators on friday and report it is first phase of the plan would cost 18 billion, ten years to complete and include more than 700 miles of new and replacement barriers along the southern border. Document also reported lays out the changes to immigration policy that President Trump has demanded to be included in any deal to address daca and allow the dreamers to remain in the country. We want the wall, the wall is going to happen or we wont have daca. We want to get rid of lottery system, in addition to that we want money for funding, we need some Additional Border security, these are great people and we need border security, we need ice, but we want to make sure that in terms of what we want and we we want daca to happen. Democrats are slamming the administrations plan for a border wall including senator dick durban who said pushing congress to shutdown, outrageios that the white house would cut months negotiations and 18 billion of funding in the backs of these young people. Several items that were not included in the administrations plans are what kind of barriers the wall will be used and where on the border will be built and how the white house plans to make mexico pay for it. Arthel thank you for that report, eric. Eric iranian protestors getting show of support today. Thousands of miles away from turmoil in tehran right here at home, Newt Gringrich were there as you can see and both spoke at the rally, iranian americans brave the frigid temperatures to take aim at their country regime, one sponsor of protest the National Resistance of iran is calling for the United NationsSecurity Council to condemn the Iranian Regime and establish to put top iranian officials on trial for human rights violations. Government rallies, kitty logan has more from london. Government backed iranis took in several cities today with thousands on the streets. The first in the north of the country but spread elsewhere, people to raise flags to chant antiu. S. And antiiranian slogans. They are in direct response for days of administration against the mechanics that began in september 28th, iranian government has cracked down on those protests and in response to crackdown, the u. S. Called meeting at the un. Iranian government acted angrily to call out meeting criticizing as mistake. Ambassador nikki haley said the meeting put iran on notice, antigovernment protests are human rights issue, at least 21 people have been killed and up to a thousand arrested in antigovernment protests, those protests were first about the economy, such as highend unemployment and food prices, anger was soon directed toward iranian leadership. The demonstration spread to around 80 places but have been fading in recent days. Iranian government has blamed foreign interference for the demonstration and series of progovernment protests to account for them and, of course, President Trump has voiced his support for the antigovernment protesters but seems for now they may have lost momentum. Eric more on the white house rally against tehran in the next hour, arthel. Arthel we will go now to Security Breach in florida, putting thousands of medicaid patients at risk. Florida Officials Say hackers may have accessed the personal information of medical records as well of up to 30,000 medicaid recipients happening back in november including Social Security numbers. Officials say they do not believe the information has been misused and are training employees on proper security protocol. Eric so did Christopher Steel lie . Why are the two Top Republicans demanding possible criminal charge against him. More on that straight ahead. Arthel plus california becomes the sixth state for recreational marijuana, and pursuing cases in some states, why lawmakers are speaking out about this. The men 7 defendants by former wardrobe stylist. Mcnabb sent her inappropriate messages during his time at the nfl network. The assault happened between 1996 and 2015. Also facing a civil lawsuit from a publicist claiming he raped her. Eric two republican senators making criminal referral to department of justice. Grassley and Lindsey Graham urging doj to investigate possible criminal charges against the man on the right, Christopher Steel, former British Intelligence officer who sought to impose russian interference in our allegation and allegations about then candidate trump and moscow in the dossier which have largely not been verified so. So what does all this mean . Judy miller is here at the Manhattan Institute for policy research and a pulitzerprize winning author, judy, good to see you. Good to see you. Eric what is this about . Did Christopher Steel lie and obviously have to have something to make this referral . Well, they have to have some reason to make the referral but the democrats on the committee, Senate Judiciary committee are absolutely convinced that this is partisan move and thats is part of a broader effort to deflect attention into possible collusion with the russians. This is very unusual because Lindsey Graham who was so critical of President Trump before he was elected and immediately afterwards has now switched sides and gone over to the protrump people. Eric can you say that in the fact that they wouldnt make this out of cloth, they would have to have something . They would eric it is classified. Let me point out it is classified. One paragraph referring to doj and we dont know whats in it because its classified. You essential would not think that both senators would be putting experience and responsibility and credibility on the line for something thats all smoke. Well, lets put it this way, Christopher Steel, a former mi6 spy and among the most respected russia analysts from the british was working with the fbi, voluntarily went to the fbi because he was so disturbed by what he was finding and to his inquiry into the possible connections between donald trump and the russians, that he went not only to senator john mccain but also himself to the fbi to cooperate with them. Now, if the fbi which has been working with him for a long time had reason to believe that he was lying to them, do you think they wouldnt have already opened up an investigation into him already . Eric how do we know there is or isnt . We dont we dont know whether or not mueller has been focused on Christopher Steel, but what we do know in addition to the fact that some of his, in fact, many of his allegations have not yet been verified or substantiated, we dont know the state of the investigation. We dont know the extent to which Christopher Steels charges but mr. Clapper, former intelligence agency, chief and others have said thats not how this thing started. Eric they are saying papadopoulos got drunk in london with australian diplomat and spilled the beans about it. That was New York Times in december that corrected the record. I mean, look, the dossier is not something thats under oath, right . And its Christopher Steel is talking with the fbi agents, they would write out a 302 or something about it, but if thats not under oath, how could you potentially bring charges against him if he said lets say if he said, did you share with anybody else, no, he was giving it to reporters at the same time. Well, there could be a conflict between what mr. Steel told the fbi and what he has said in a civil case thats being played out in the london courts. We just dont know. What we do know that Christopher Steel himself has not spoken to any of the three committees in the house and senate that are investigating, you know what disturbs me, eric, we have an election coming up and the whole point of this inquiry and these investigations are supposed to be aimed at finding out whether or not russia actively gettered our democracy and seems to me that people lost track of what the underlying issue is and we have a very important election coming up in 2018 and you would think that the republicans and the democrats on that committee and on other committees would want to get to the bottom of that issue rather than go after an individual who may or may not have been truthful with the fbi. Eric if he wasnt truthful with the fbi, he should be held accountable to the law and rule of law. Yes, but i think in my view lesser priority in finding out what the russians did, whether or not they were successful, whether or not there was anyone beyond the people who have already been charged in this investigation who are surrounded by surrounding mr. Trump who were connected to the russians. Thats the really key issue here and weve all lost track of that. Eric thats exactly what mule certify trying to do, but you raise a much broader issue, with the midterms coming up in river side, california, i covered this for fox news, election integrity, someone went in and changed Voter Registration and they dont know who it was, they dont have record of that and its been passed on through the da that dealt with it but there had been no charge because they cant figure out who fiddled with the registrations. Thats right, and these issues are so important and they are going to be important in 2018 where a simple twovote shift in the senate could actually change who controls the senate from the republicans to the democrats if they win. So weve got to understand what the russians did, whether or not there was anyone in the Trump Campaign beyond mr. Manafort who was talking to the russians, former Campaign Adviser and the other people who have already been charged who had any connections with the russians and especially whether or not they colluded to undermine our democracy and thats the issue here. Eric that is. Right now there hasnt been any charge of collusion or not a crime or conspiracy, although manafort case as well as rick gates financial dealings and potential lying allegedly to federal prosecutors, to the fbi, we will see what happens with Christopher Steel, if this gets any traction. Absolutely. Arthel longtime jeopardy host alex, the undergoing brain surgery. Man, oman is it cold outside. Eric unrelenting freezing temperatures still locked in eastern half of the country in big chill after the socalled bomb cyclone, winds knocked thousands of powers and homes, bryan llenas covering this, bryan is outside. Pays to be the anchor, doesnt it, eric . The arctic blast, one thing to have bomb cyclone and made mess in massachusetts and others, arctic blast is happening all weekend. We are talking about a windshield advisory in parts of the northeast and the Great Lakes Region in the midwest. Take a look at temperatures and understand why the current windchill in new york is negative 5, we have negative 11 in buffalo, new york and negative 7 in boston, 23 in boston, minus 7 in new york and 4 below in indianapolis, zero degrees what the windchill feels tomorrow morning. You and i were covering coverine storm, look at the video, a video of massachusetts flooded with ice waters and cars in the ice. Terrible situation from 32 coastal communities in massachusetts and they were trying very hard to get the draining out, drain those waters as soon as they could before the deep freeze set in yesterday and into this weekend and also, you know, its not just those folks, there are people at airports right now who are suffering still with the delays after the storm. This video from jfk, you can hear the violin playing, you to do something waiting hours on end to get in a flight and this morning massive delays at jfk airport, gridlock, faa and Port Authority had to work together, people were stuck on their airplanes on the tarmac for 2, 3, 4 even 20 hours in airplanes because too many airplanes coming in, backlog from the store and not enough gates. Port authority had to bring portable stairs and into buses to terminal. One tweet from one passenger, jfk embarrassment. No toilet food or water available, its not just today when the storm hits that we are seeing significant delays, backlog of the flights coming to jfk and jfk clearly this afternoon overwhelmed with the amounts of flights coming in. Stay warm and stay safe, more snow and precipitation expected monday, luckily the temperatures will be in the 30s for much of the northeast and midwest and im off on mondays and tuesdays so thats a saving grace for me, eric. We gave up on the flight. We left logan, flight kept getting push back and beat the airplane but producer courtney stuck for five hours but thankfully got safely hang. Come on in. [laughter] thanks, eric, take care. Arthel alex trebek taking leave of absence after he recovers from brain surgery, 77yearold says he developed neurological disease from a head injury after a fall in october. Here is alex trebek from a video from his home posted on jeopardys official website. I had a slight medical problem, blood clots on the brain caused by a fall i endured about two months ago. Surgery was performed, the prognosis is excellent and i expect to be back in the studio taping more Jeopardy Program very, very soon. Arthel dr. Paul sapphire vascular neurosurgeon and alex trebek looks great, first, if you would, explain what is a hematoma and how it affects the brain . Clot of blood that accumulates in brain, i have a model of the skull here and a brain. If i were to take off the brain and the skull, you see is brain underneath, between the brain and the skull theres a space, thats where himatoma can accumulate. How does that affect the function to have brain . Couple different types, acute, people in severe accidents, Motor Vehicle accidents or collusion, acute collection of blood that rapidly expands, cause somebody into a coma or kill them, what mr. Trebek suffered from, hit their head on something that you and i couldnt think of, kitchen cabinet, car jam or doors youre getting in and slowly over time the blood accumulates and slowly pushes pressure on the brain. Sometimes patients can have very large hematomas and have few symptoms, all the different things. And so is the procedure to go in and drain the blood from the area thats collected . It is. When the hematomas are large enough, only symptom to remove the blood. Best way to open up the skull one way or the other depending on where the collection is and physically go in and drain the collection, often times flays a plastic tube or drain in there, keep that in place for few days and over time the brain, as hematomas is removed, it will expand. Thats good. He can after the surgery which took place in middecember, he can have full functionality of his brain and everything and go thank work as he promised. People can make complete recoveries from this. As you can imagine its a tremendous spectrum as to how people might do and chance of reaccumulation and usually patients can do quite well if caught early enough. Mr. Trebek had the fall in october, he didnt have the surgery two months later, seems that he didnt see severe symptoms for the doctors to go ahead and perform surgery. What are the symptoms, how do you know, i didnt just bump my head and whats the difference between this and a concussion, so many questions here. Right, a lot of Great Questions and typically, very classic story that i will see when i see a patient that has this condition is they hit their head october and then over the course of the next few months maybe their families members or spouse or whoever noted that they are acting different, their headaches are continuing to get worse, sometimes they have personality changes, severe obvious symptoms, seizures, they dont feel well, headaches are getting worse so on and so forth, thats because the hematoma slowly accumulates and slowly pushes pressure. We have some pictures, im not sure if theyre on the screen, a patient that i operated upon that had pretty large subdural hematoma, that skull and the squiggly line is the brain in the inside and thats a big application of blood there. So what was done for this particular patient is we performed surgery u placed a small tube or brain, in there now and actively draining and ultimately the next picture is the brain is fully reexpanded. Doctors gave him a great prognosis, hes going to be back to work. Does he have to be extra cautious about not bumping his head in opening door . Common sense, you need to be careful and he has recovery to be done, thats for sure. Seems like hes doing great. Im sure he will make complete great recovery. Thats really good to hear you. Sometimes we have your wife shes as equally as great and thanks for explaining this important story to us. Thats good news for mr. Trebek. One of the worst in years, doctors are telling us, dont wait to get that vaccine, go to the pharmacy or doctor and get that shot. Okay, also north and south korea agreed to sit down next week, will the talks lead to peace with pyongyang . This is something that im really passionate about i really want to help. I was on my way out of this life. There are patients out there that dont have a lot of time. Finally, it was like the sun rose again and i was going to start fighting back now. When those patients come to me and say, you saved my life. My life was saved by a two week old targeted therapy drug. Thats what really drives me to to save lives. Mayhem . Whatim a lightning rod. Ere . Waiting to protect your home from a lightning strike. Its my new years resolution. Whatever. Can you get my plane . Yeah, i dont do planes. I just do lightning. Pudding. [sigh] did grandpa win again . Yes download the new words with friends 2 today. A meeting more than two years in the making, we are talking about north korea and south korea whether he recollects get to that story actually right now. Agree to go meet for highlevel talks tuesday at the peace house at the dmz along the border, range of topics including cooperation, Winter Olympics and improve overall relations. Rex tillerson says this is a sign that the administration of pyongyang he says its working. This development about the meeting between north and south we believe is indication that the Pressure Campaign is causing the leadership the regime in north korea to begin to think about this cant go on forever. Eric joining us for more on that, commander, counterterrorism adviser to Vice President chainia and author of warrior diplomat and Fox News Contributor. Michael, it kind of came out of nowhere, how significant do you think it is that theres approach that they are going to sit down and talk . Kim jong un mentioned this potential sitdown during his new years day speech and President Trump moon of south korea meeting jumped on it and back and forth began to sit down with talks. Now there are divides within south korea about whether this is the best way to move forward, south korea has a history of progressive president of which president moon is one of those, the best deal way to deal with north korea is to trade, open up dialogue and conservatives in south korea and analysts as well that are very nervous about one, kim jong uns sincerity and south korea will begin making concessions. Theres a real concern. I share this concern that kim jong un will use the olympics as a wedge to begin a dialogue and to begin talk and to get the kind of South Koreans on board while at the same time he continues on the side to march towards a full nuclear capability. Eric certainly doing both, that certainly makes sense and to use south korean olympics for own propaganda purposes. President trump today at camp david has the news conference, he seemed optimistic despite calling kim jong un rocket man and saying that he would destroy north korea if they, indeed, tried to launch any missile against us or allies. Here is part of what the president said. I hope it works out. I very much want to see it work out between the two countries. I would like to see them getting involved in olympics and things go from there, im behind that 100 . Eric thats pretty fascinating. One thing they did was big concession to kim jong un, delayed joint military exercises, thats what, you know, pyongyang, thats what kim jong uns regime has always wanted, us to completely suspend the military exercises and we did it at least temporarily. Well, you know, in fairness general mattis, secretary of defense said that a lot of that had something to do with logistics of the exercises and the timing rather than a concession. Now, look, i think it could be, it could be seen as that. Eric kim jong un is going to say look, i won, i did it. Its completely appropriate for us collectively to take a pause for olympics, thats one thing the olympics is about, clearing the deck of politics and tensions and letting the worlds athletes compete in a peaceful manner, but going forward, what im concerned about is february 26th, the day after the olympics if the South Koreans and the United States are not airtight on the same page diplomatically about keeping the pressure up and ratcheting the pressure down and keeping the pressure on the chinese to cut north korea off economically, thats where we can see some issues, but for everyone to take a kind of collective pause here from now through olympics i think its appropriate and fine. Eric that could be break, any break that they need although there are indication that is north korea is preparing another missile launch, do you expect them to do that during the olympics or do you think as you said maybe february 26th . I dont think any of this can be in the can be in the business of predicting kim jong un. Thats one of the reasons hes so unpredictable and in my view not a rational actor and thats why we cant let them get the program in the first place. We focus on whats next after and it is having preconditions for more meaningful talks. When i served in the bush white house, i witnessed the sixparty talks and frankly, i think a number of things were a number of mistakes were made there to where the kim jong un regime, the north korean regime just completely used that process to buy time to advance its military capabilities. Eric like what mistake . Taking them off the state support to terrorist list was a mistake, i think we gave too much when it was clear that the north korean regime were going to reject un sanctions inspection and not abide by it and i think put, lifted pressure far too soon to where we could have been further along if we had maintained maximum Pressure Campaign, that said, the Obama Administration just completely took its foot off the gas and we are where we are and trump has been handed this mess to deal with. Eric he has the mess, he would be willing to talk to kim jong un. Let me get your reaction to that, this is what he said at camp david today. Okay. Are you willing to engage in phone talks with kim jong un right now . Sure, i believe in talking. [inaudible] i will be absolutely i do lo that. No problem with that at all. No prerequisites to coming to the table. Should the president pick up or answer the phone from kim . I think the president is absolutely right to always leave the back door open for diplomatic talks but it has to be the right preconditions and north koreans have to give up nuclear perform on the front end before we sit down. Theres the message to kim jong un, michael, thank you for your service. Thank you. Arthel eric, thank you, nasa honoring the life of john young, he walked on the moon and later commanded the first Space Shuttle flight and now john young has died at the age of 87. More on mr. Young the only nasa astronaut to go to space as part of gemini and apollo programs, quite a record and achievement. Also the first astronaut to fly into space six times and the ninth man to walk on the moon, a great iconic american, john young was 87 years old. Arthel well, looks like we are in the midst of unusual dangerous flu season, Health Officials in california say its so intense that some hospitals are rerouteing patients because they just dont have room and the cdc reports major outbreaks across more than half of the country. Will carr live in los angeles with more, big deal up there. Arthel, this is setting up to be one of the worst flu seasons ever and we still have a while to go, according to cdc, the number of people bogged down with the viral infection spiked over the past week, widespread flu systems being reported in 46 states across the country leading to at least 45 deaths nearly 4,000 people have been hospitalized, the spread so large that some parts of the country are seeing a Record Number of cases, people flooding into Emergency Rooms creating long lines and in one case forcing a california hospital to set up tents for flu patients. Very unfortunate and tragic is this latebreaking kind of death that we learned about yesterday from december 31st, 12monthold and we are all very sad but this is, you know, good reminder for all of us that we have a role to play in terms of protecting us and the loved ones. The elderly and kids are the most vulnerable when it comes to the flu and cdc recommend that is everybody get a flu shot even though some experts say this years vaccine may not be doing a great job when it comes to prevention. Now and then they get it wrong like there is this year and the vaccine is less effective than what it would be if it was a complete match. Arthel, flu season peaks december and february but could go as far as may. Thank you. He fired back in a discredit for the controversial telco by Michael Wolff. Welcome to a brandnew hour inside of americas news headquarters. Hello everyone thank you for joining us tonight. The president right now is an maryland countryside handling with the capitals Top Republican lawmakers at camp david. They face a pile of Unfinished Business that was planted in the new year. It will be discussing the path forward and political aspirations with midterms now months away at the end of the year. The president also addressed the other huge issue this weekend. That gripped the minds of many across the country. The controversial just published book, fire and fury it suggests that mr. Trump is not competent to be commanderinchief. And there here is what he said. He came out and made billions and billions of dollars. Became one of the top business people. Now were live at the white house with more on all of these accusations. Good afternoon eric. The defense began at 7 30 a. M. When the president tweeted his defense and response to Michael Wolff and the charges and about that 100 percent of the people surrounding him question his intelligence and fitness for office. The president tweeting this morning quote actually throughout my life my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being like really smart. Crooked hillary clinton, also plays these cards hard as anyone knows. Went down in flames. I went from very successful businessman to talk t. V. Star to president of the United States on my first try. I think that would qualify as not smart but genius in a very stable genius at that. He also responded to reports confirmed by www. Foxnews. Com white house officials requested of the attorney general, that he not recuse himself from the russian interference election interference. This is what the president said about that. This was off but everything has been 100 percent. I do things proper. And i guess the collision now is dead because everyone found that after a year of study there has been no collusion. Then the president Republican Leaders say the reason they were at camp david is sweet, they want to discuss budgeting, military spending and immigration. At the center that is the obama your program, daca the white house is phasing out. They say republicans want to extend protections in exchange we want to end chain migration and that leaves a lot of transmits the visa lottery system. And they say north korea can send olympics to south korea for the olympics and that conversations can move beyond that theres some say this is an attempt by north korea to drive a wedge between south korea and the United States as the Trump Administration for the last few months has been pushing the Pressure Campaign to try and isolate north korea. Now south korea is talking to the north. That should be fascinating. Especially during the olympics. Thank you. Republicans are put in the Russian Investigation back in the spotlight. After senators Lindsey Graham and transits asked for an investigation into the author of the trump dossier. Christopher steele compiled the dossier from fusion gps during the 2016 election. He also talked to the fbi about the dossier. But there could be some discrepancies in the story. Caroline shively is live in washington with the details. What more can you tell us . I can tell you that senators grassley and graham think that he may have lied specifically about contact with reporters. He is a former british spy on payroll of the Opposition Research firm, fusion gps. Many republicans think that unverified dossier spark entire investigation into the potential collusion between the Trump Campaign and russia. At one point the fbi even thought about bringing steele on. The president spoke about the investigation today. I guess the collision now is dead. Because everyone found after one year of study there has been absolutely no collusion. There has been no collusion between us and the russians. Now, there has been collision between hillary clinton, the dnc and the russians. Graham and grassley lay this out in a letter to the Justice Department. Embers of congress cannot levy charges that can flag them to the doj for review. This is the first noncriminal referral as part of the investigation. Democrats are furious. Richard blumenthal also on the Judiciary Committee said this was taken by any corporation or consultation. It is vaguely stated, secret allegations seem more designed to distract and discredit the fbi and other law enforcement. Now the rest the content of the dossier is still disputed. The criminal referral makes no judgment on that. Thank you caroline. Thank you for breaking it all down for us. The president is renewing a campaign valve today. That mexico will pay he said in some way for the proposed wall on the us border. This is just one day after the white house asked congress for 18 million over the next decade to try and start constructing the barrier. Garrett tenney has more tonight from washington. Is the first detailed repent we have of the wall on the us southern border critical spring major expansion for security. They share this with the number of senators on friday and reports of the first phase of the plan would cost 18 billion. Take 10 years to complete and include more than 700 miles of new and replacement of various along the southern border. The document also reportedly lays out changes to immigration policy that the president has demanded to be included in any deal to address daca and allow dreamers to remain in the country. We want the wall. It will happen or we will not daca. We want to get rid of chain migration. Very important. We want to get rid of the lottery system. In addition we want money for funding. We need Additional Border security. These are great people. We need some border security. We need i. C. E. But we ought to make sure that in terms of what we want, we want daca to happen. Democrats are slamming the ministrations plant reporter will including senator dick durbin as of the present may be pushing congress towards a Government Shutdown with the latest proposal. At end, it is outrageous that the white house would undercut mazza bipartisan efforts by again trying to put its entire wishlist of hardline antiimmigrant roles within addition of 18 where along the border they will be built and how the white has plans to make mexico pay for it. Thank you so much. It is bone chilling arctic air still blasting the northeast. Thousands of people are still recovering from a bomb cyclone that dropped heavy snow in the region. Look at these pictures. In new jersey, a waterfall has nearly frozen over. But they are telling us more seasonable weather is expected to return. Brian is outside in the freezing cold with more. More seasonable weather like 30 degrees is not considered balmy. Consider how frozen and bitterly cold and has been for the last two weeks in the northeast, midwest and Great Lakes Region. Not only freezing temperatures but dangerously cold wind chill. There is a wind chill advisory in effect for much of the northeast region. 10 pittsburgh, 5 new yorker, 7 boston. Tamara temperatures, not windchill. This temperatures will be negative one in cleveland, one degree new york tomorrow morning. 4 in boston. We can break a record for the coldest january 7 and bostons history breaking the negative to record back in 1896. And that is incredible. Boston massachusetts, much of the 32 coastal communities that received significant flooding not only dealing with this freezing temperatures but of course they dealt with the massive bomb cyclone. We had this in revere massachusetts. People were trying to drain the water before this breeze came in. They are expecting 25 to 40 windchill and parts of massachusetts. Then there is this. Massive delays at the airport still. Especially when there are delays, you listen to music and you play music. You do everything you can because you are talking about hours and hours of delays. Two, three, even 20 miles on the tarmac. Some people have been at jfk airport for 48 hours. According to social media, the Port Authority is working with the faa to delay arrivals of plans to jfk because they are so overwhelmed with the backlog of flights over the last couple of days because of the storm that there is not enough gates to put the plans accident brought in portable stairs to bring people out onto the tarmac on the buses to take them out of the plans, no water, nothing. We got one tweet that said to be at last. After a 14 hour flight from beijing, and other sevenhour stand on the jfk airport tarmac. Passengers aboard airtran flight 99 are complaining. The next concern is that the custom lines for the flight was one of many that landed but without a gait assigned. Tribal nightmares still for many. Snow and what precipitation expected monday for the midwest and east coast. Then temperatures in the 30s which right now is looking mighty dead. Also, look at this video. This is mt. Washington in new hampshire. They are blowing bubbles in the observatory and they freeze in the air and you can pick them up and they are like baseballs. They actually get hard. Showing thousands of people gathering in several cities waving iranian flags while chanting antius and antiisrael slogans. This is one day after emergency meeting of the un Security Council prompted by the us to discuss deadly antigovernment protests sweeping iran. Kitty logan has more from london. Support iranian towns and cities today with thousands on the streets. This appeared in the north of the country and spread out. And they were flags chanting antiis antiisrael slogans. Iranian state t. V. Says they are in direct response to these demonstrations against the government which began back on december 28. The iranian government has cracked down on the protests and in response to the crackdown, the us called a meeting at the un. The iranian government reacted angrily to the us decision to call the meeting criticizing it as a mistake. But the Us Ambassador to the un, nikki haley, says the meeting has put iran on notice. She says antigovernment protests in iran are human rights issue. At least 21 people have been killed and up to 1000 arrested in antigovernment protests. They were first about the economy. Such as employment and the rise on food crisis. And the demonstrations dispatch around any places but have been fitting in the recent days. The government staged a series of progovernment protests. The us has openly supported the antigovernment protest but it seems for now, the demonstrations may have been subdued by the iranian government crackdown. Kitty logan in london, thank you. And the princess against the regime continue in iran. Those demonstrators were seeing some support here at home. A rally was held in front of the white house today. It was sponsored by Iranian Opposition group to demand regime change in tehran. The protesters braved frigid temperatures to declare the dictator ship that they say does not represent their meaning people. And is only staying in power and fear. They ask people to speak out and for around two store social media access to the demonstrators so that it can communicate with each other. Protesters back in iran are risking their lives to try and liberate their country. The only longterm way to deal with the threat of iranian dictatorship with Nuclear Weapons is to end the dictatorship. One of the test sponsors, release this video. This is where they said the regime is beginning to move to eventually face the protesters. The government has blamed the group leader for preventing much of this unrest. He lives in france and the corpses iranian president has asked the french president to throw her out of the country but they say he has refused. Karen considers her group and the followers quote terrorists because they oppose the regime. And in a video state she says now is the time for the International Community to take meaningful action pictures of the protests can go beyond resistance and lead to real measures to put pressure on the regime. These protests show that the regime is [inaudible] the International Community must take measures to punish the Iranian Regime for this crime against iranian people and for the international terrorists. She says the measure should include the following. Financial sanctions and blocking International Banking system. Recognition of the Iranian Resistance at the democratic alternative. The un Security Council wants to condemn the regimes human rights violations. And she demands of the un try to prosecute officials for the killing of the activists. But the Security Council meeting yesterday, the Us Ambassador, nikki haley, praised the courage of the protesters and called on relative must you act but the council did not take any official action. In fact, the iran envoy blamed the President Trump for inciting protests and he said they tried to hijack the Council Votes on purposes. The Iranian Nuclear deal has opened up billions of dollars in trade for europe and some critics say is one reason why the reactionary has been largely muted but they are handling the support for this to continue. Thank you. The president renewing his offers to democrats that a daca deal will be done but only if it comes with his long promised border wall. This comes after the president requested 18 billion from congress to fund the project over 10 years. Meanwhile, a stopgap spending bill is set to expire in less than two weeks. Democrats are pushing for a permanent solution on daca in exchange for funding the government. We believe strongly that we have to have some protections. For the young people who came to this country, led by their parents as youngsters and now just want to be americans. Roughly speaking, we are talking to is restoration of the two great pillars of American Immigration policy. One is a belief that Legal Immigration is good. But that respect for the rule of law was equally important. Bridget is here come a politics reporter for roll call. Ill get to those important issues in a moment but i want to talk about this. The reporters had an impromptu press Conference Held by President Trump today at camp david. He was there answering reporter questions. What you make of that . Thank you. Apparently the president reiterated once again his demands for some sort of agreement on daca. In those obviously include bridget i do not think you can hear me. I want to talk about the press conference that the president held today at camp david. It was impromptu. The traveling press corps did not know it was going to happen. The president was there answering questions. He was very even killed. He was fielding questions alongside of and a list of gop establishment presenting a united front. The president , with the president. Is this what is going to take to gain support outside of his base . Which would help the republicans in the midterm elections. That is an interesting question. One key part of that press conference that i thought was really interesting was that he said he plans to campaign for four does not plan to campaign for primary calendars against sitting republican incumbents. This was sort of an open question going into the 2018 midterms. Where we will see this divide between the socalled establishment sitting republican senators, especially those that by Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell. And the president. Was he going to challenge it in republicans and at least right now he is indicating it is not plan to do that and of course, he is presenting at this press conference a united front with all of the Republican Leaders from congress. That certainly sets a different tone going into 2018 then we might have seen prior to this. And gesturing the president saying that we all want daca. But the president is tacking on a new 18 billion asked saying that mexico will pay in some form the president said. It is an issue important to the president s base and an issue important to the democrats. It rolls up into one piece of legislation. Is this a smart strategy or a poor preposition . Can a president pull this off and sell it . That is the Million Dollar question going into this. What will actually be part of the deal that can actually get through congress . A big question is whether or not any sort of deal will be attached to government funding, legislation which is what democrats are pushing for. What do you mean what democrats are pushing for . Chuck schumer said on the senate floor this week that he wants any broad spending bill to include something to address daca peers this is a tactic we often see in congress attempting some sort of provision to a must pass piece of legislation like the government funding deal. Because they know they have to fund the government for the government will shut down so they tried to include another measure to try and get some more support and get it through congress. What you are talking about is, we are two weeks away from the deadline to pass the budget work the government will shut down at least partially. And then so while you are on the topic we go back to daca. Can the president and his cabinet divided strategy at camp david this weekend . Perhaps i will be advertising enough to the democrats to avoid a Government Shutdown where and if you think that can happen, we didnt the republicans and stand firm and where do they compromise . Sure. In terms of where republicans might compromise, we have seen some republicans open some door to not necessarily including all of the funding for a border wall. There are some republicans particularly from border states and districts on the southern border that do not support the border wall. It will be interesting to see what senator Mitch Mcconnell relates to the president this weekend. In terms of what is possible through the senate. Of course in the senate and in the magic number of at least nine democrats to vote to end debate on any legislation. They need a bipartisan piece of legislation. Something that will get democratic support in this as well. Another open question there is a belief that infrastructure would be one of those items that will be supported by both sides of the aisle. That is right. It will be interesting to see how that moves forward. Particularly with red state democrats within a 10 democrats up for election states that the president win in november and are they going to try and show that they can be bipartisan and work with republicans on some of these issues. Okay, im going to go with what was left which says i am done. I will have to have you back to talk about daca and rolling that it into legislation for the border wall and get your take on that. Some clarity on that. Your answer, politics reporter for roll call, thank you very much. Thank you. Bush and first lady, barbara bush, celebrating their 73rd wedding anniversary. They were engaged just before the president shipped off to serve as a naval pilot during world war ii. They were married on january 6, 1945 and new york. This is mrs. Bushs hometown. They have been married longer than any other president ial couple in us history. Happy anniversary congratulations to them steve bannon is quite a controversial figure but could he soon end up in a courtroom . It turns out the president s lawyer threatening to sue the former chief white house official and also sue the publisher of the explosive notebook, fire and fury. Because in the book bennett is quoted as attacking the president s in a circle and his family. And of course they did this to release the book ahead of schedule. What is we are bringing in our guests. Lets start with the mercedes. We have to show malice, intent. You have to show a reckless disregard for the truth no matter what is in the book. That is exactly right. First of all with respect to steve bannon. There is talk about this nondisclosure agreement that he was bound by. That is not the case at all. He is a Government Employee. He is obviously afforded the protections of the First Amendment, freedom of speech. He can express his opinions, his thoughts, observations. With obviously very strict exceptions. One, he cannot disclose classified information. Other than that, unless there is some showing that he has libeled and slandered and youre exactly right with respect to the standard it is malice. His disregard for the truth. He has to show malice in order to come forward and for this to be successful. It is a very hard and very High Standard it is as a former Government Official are they worried about that nondisclosure agreement . It says you are not supposed to disparage mr. Trump. You hereby promise and agree not to demean or disparage publicly the company, mr. Trump, any company for any Family Member company. That is another nondisclosure from another form advisor. This is what a lot of people do not realize, the nondisclosure agreement also contains the nondisparagement clause. It not only protects, disparaging comments against trump but also his Family Members. That is also where these are true or false. So yes, while there are limitations on semi steve bannon comments that he made while in white house official, there certainly is applicability of the nondisclosure agreement going back to the campaign and things that he is saying about donald trump and Family Members during the campaign. Is elected president is taking this pretty personally. Let me put you some of what he said earlier today at camp david. So much of it was false. I considered the work a fiction. I think it is a disgrace one is able to have something, do Something Like that, to those that are weak in this country. Just so you know i never interviewed with him in the white house at all. He was never in the oval office. We never had an interview. Mercedes, can the president really sue on this . The big issue will be the nondisclosure agreement brought up moments ago. Because frankly, we do not see that what we are talking about Government Employees. It flies in the face of transparency, congressional oversight. That is why the nondisclosure agreements, whether it is something that steve bannon would be subject to, is really problematic because we are talking about a Government Employee. You have to be able to say if theres something going on, then the Government Employee has to come forward and disclose it. That is the First Amendment right to do so. It will definitely be a challenge. He is bringing it to court. You have obviously you are asking whether it will be a success. It will be very difficult. Because malice has to be shown and if youre talking about opinions that steve bannon is expressing that also has protection but it is not defamatory. And the other issue is that there are some errors that have been reported on in the book. So they are small errors. Does that put the whole book in question . How does that fit in . Is a great point. Simply it will be sliced and diced in the book. It will not be this entire book is defamatory. We are talking about defamation cases, it is a statement of self to analyze one by one. Let me read you what the president lawyers is peer. Actual malice, disregard for the truth can be proven by the fact that the book admits in the introduction that it contains untrue statements. When the book appears to cite, to know sources and many of the most damaging statements about mr. Trump. Also many of the socalled sources. They stated publicly that they never spoke to mr. Wolf and have never made the statements being attributed to them other alleged resources and statements are not to be unreliable and are strongly biased against mr. Trump. So you are biased against mr. Trump. People can speak out like it or not. I get the chest beating by the lawyers but if i am his lawyer im not bringing a liable lawsuit in this case. There is so much more Downside Risk to donald trump here because by trying to prove the falsity of the statements, that opens up steve bannon to be able to take up depositions of donald trump, the family, it requires them to turn over evidence and opens up steve bannon to file what you call a counter antislapp countersuit against donald trump, it shifts the burden to him and it could put trump on the hook for steve bannon as attorneys fees. While there may be some falsity to this, they are really playing with fire with bringing the liable lawsuit. Because that comes with a lot of Downside Risk. So what will happen . If anything, you will have to see the lawsuit really focused on this nondisclosure agreement. This nondisparagement clause. At the end of the day i think both parties are going to realize that if this ends up in a lawsuit filing it is not going to and particularly well. For either party. Mercedes, yes or no, trial . No. I think, i do not think we will ever see a lawsuit. A lot of smoke. Thank you much. Thank you. North korea and south korea set to hold talks for the first time in two years. North korea says it is now open to holding talks with south korea for the first time in two years. This is coming after the s and south korea agreed to postpone joint military exercises until after next months Winter Olympics in south korea. The president says he is hoping this will pave the way for future communications between the two nations. I love to see them take it beyond the olympics. We have a very Good Relationship with south korea. I would love to see ago far beyond the olympics. Absolutely. And at the appropriate time we will get involved. I like the idea that they are doing nice. Trimming our ambassador the former Us Ambassador to bharain and former state Department Deputy spokesperson, ambassador, thank you for joining us. Thank you. How is your mental is the president and precipitating these talks . I think that President Trump talk talk certainly got everybodys attention. And also, lets be clear. The talks are limited to north koreas participation in the winter limits. And so, it might be a bit of a stretch to link them to the Nuclear Issue that clearly shows a willingness to compromise by all sides. First of all north korea to even agree to talks. Second of all, the United States and south korean allies to postpone the military exercises which have been a source side with north korea. Love, the context is changing. That is a positive thing. Whether it will go beyond the scope of the talks is another thing. As he said, olympics we are talking about the lettuce. But once the talks begin to think either side will try to accomplish or establish Something Else besides the olympics participation by north korean athletes . Yeah, i certainly expect so. Look, everybody is kind of scared. We have come to the brink of conflict with a lot of heated rhetoric and tough talk that has everyone really worried. There is an incentive for everybody to take a step back and look at ways to deescalate the situation and return to negotiations. There are two ways to do with this. Talks are by force. And that is certainly the most least desirable income. Is a scary scenario. Rex tillerson was speaking on this. The audio vision i want to play for you. This meeting with north and south, we do believe it is an indication of the Pressure Campaign is causing the leadership, regime and north korea to begin to think about this cannot go on forever. I do not know if you heard ambassador, but when he said is i think this development that has come about. The meeting between the north and the south, we do believe it is an indication that the Pressure Campaign is causing the regime in north korea to begin to think about this cannot go on forever. Depending on what is discussed at the meeting, what is the president and secretaries play . Especially comment if kim jongun is saying in a matter what, i am keeping my nukes . It will be very difficult to have them give up that but you can still put certain restrictions and conditions. All for certain incentives frankly, that the north koreans badly need and barely want. I agree completely with what secretary tillerson said. Our tough talk and i will pressure has started to produce some kind of movement on the north korean side. The other element we have to talk about obviously, is the role of china, the role of china, the role of the other countries involved. At the behind the scenes, trump and the leader of china have been working hard to bring increased pressure which is where north korea was just tillerson was in bed there is a long way between now and a deal that would reassure south korea, the United States and neighbors in the region about north koreas peaceful intentions and reducing the threat that opposes to the peninsula and the pacific. Right. With that i will add japan. You mentioned china, russia. They will be watching and listening to the outcome of this meeting. What do you think china, russia, japan what do you think that they are expecting or hoping to transpire during these talks . I think the first thing really everyone has to look forward to, is that the talks between north korea and south korea on the olympic dissipation produce something. If they fail, there is no incentive for encouragement to go beyond them and talk about Nuclear Issues. Number one i think everyone will be supporting south korea and giving them the backing they need to provide north korea the assurances it needs, the encouragement it needs to participate and to Reach Agreement on the olympic participation. Then i think we will look for a negotiating process, a structure that would allow other countries like the United States, russia and china to participate in a broader set of talks. On a broader set of issues. Okay, to talk about. Have the paralympics in march as well. Everyone will be watching to see what kim jongun on does and how he behaves after that point.
