Commit they sent this letter to the former attorney general at Loretta Lynch asking her to provide relevant documents and answer questions. Media reports that she would stop the fbi investigation into Hillary Clintons mishandling of classified information from going too far. The. The syringes were known to vent dnc chair Debbie Watson ms. Scholz. This letter reads , did you er have communication wasserman schultz. This test especially demand or any other current dnc officials that the clinton the former fbi director james comey said lynch told him to use a language that downplayed the criminal nature of the fbi investigation, and he referred to the ledge document that was reportedly picked up by the russian hackers. There were other things that contributed to that. One significant item i cant, and of the committee has been briefed on, theres been some public accounts of it which are nonsense but i understand the many has been briefed on the classified facts. The only other consideration i guess i can talk about in an open setting that at one point attorney general had directed me not to call an investigation but instead to call it a matter, which confused and concerned me. Sandra to mexico according to our fox Research Department in july of 2016, lynch had to answer questions more than 70 tr congressional testimony. For some context, these new sent letters are being hailed because they show how the russia probe has effectively spilled over into previous administration. Sandra obviously a Big Development in that investigation. How a special counsel Robert Muellers investigation . Speak of the relationship between special counsel Robert Moeller and the fire fbi director james comey has really been under the microscope since may when mueller took over the investigation. This video from 2013 shows coming when he was nominated by the fbi director taking over from mueller who had held the job for 12 years, to more than the traditional 10year term, at the request of president obama. President trump telling fox news this morning that he is kind of thinking he wait and see attitude over mueller should recuse himself over the russian case. Hes very, very good friends with comey, which is very bothersome. The president has continued to dispute comeys characterization of the private conversation, specifically over the former National Security advisor mike flynn. Sandra. Sandra thank you, catherine. So much news coming in the saffron. Thank you for the update on all that. At the White House Press precinct event briefing is now underway. But we are making it very clear, there is a change happening here. There are no cameras that are allowed to shoot it. At this time usually every day, we take that White House Press briefing inside the white house with cameras on. This is the camera just pointed at the wall in the room right now. Our camera on the wall, a curious sight at the White House Press briefing. Yesterday, the wrongful of reporters waiting for sarah sanderson, sp, just as she did, the camera moved off the podium and just south of white house seal, not the press secretary. They chance from briefing to get angles now from on camera to offcamera. The white house is not permitting audio use until after the briefing wraps. At the White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer has had just seven media appearances and 18 days. Since the president returned from his trip. President trump has not held a full press Conference Since february. Lets talk about with chris stirewalt. Are we making too big of a deal out of this . This is a big change for the white house. Its important. It is worth noting because of course every administration would like to be more secretive, every administration would like to share less and be less transparent and accountable. Because it would be easier to get things done. But we should also remember that for most americans, they dont care. They dont care whether its on camera or offcamera, whether its audio or video or all that stuff. Reporters have to be careful here. Number one, for the most ardent supporters of this president , just for the most ardent supporters of the previous prepping to my president when he would beat up the press or limit access or be less transparent or accountable, we would scream and holler and say this is not right, you are not doing the right thing, this is unjust. President obamas basic yet, stick to them especially those guys at fox. This time, President Trump knows by limiting access, but not giving press conferences, but not doing these things, many of his reporters will like it because they hate the press even more than democrats do. As for the people in the middle, the voters trying to figure things out, when we complain about access and whether its video or audio, it probably sounds like whining from some people who have cushy your jobs than most americans. Sandra we know that this things this white house has said about the media from go. There was some speculation that they are going to cancel White House Press briefings entirely. I think there was even threat to do so. The fact that the white house has only had to go on camera briefings in the last couple weeks, is it a possibility they might go into that direction and not hold any briefings at all . Once this administration decided it was not really going for persuadable voters anymore, that this president was going to write off those folks and go for keeping the base, his base of voters fired up and engaged, skipping through the press and what they see as distortions from the press and characterization and this kind of reporting and going straight to rallies, going straight to interviews with outlets that are seen as more favorable by the president s base. Doing those things and just keeping those voters engaged. Its probably a politically smart move. Sandra if i could jump in, i just want to show real quickly with the White House Correspondent association is saying about this. They say we believe strongly that americans should be able to watch and listen to senior government officials face questions from an Independent News Media in keeping with the printable some of the First Amendment and need for transparency at the highest levels of government. We are not satisfied with the current state of play and we will work hard to change it. Again, the treatment of this of this president is not even arguable that its unprecedented coverage that we have seen so far. I dont know. Would you argue that, chris . A lot about these days is unprecedented. We are in a way on president and state and that definitely improves the negative tenor of the coverage, how much of it is deserved, how much is gratuitous, thats up to every back individual to decide. Probably since Richard Nixon left office, this is a very hostile space. Everything this administration can do to blunt the effectiveness of reporters and passing the store is probably seen as a good thing. They will probably get away with it, but i would say that reporters have to do their jobs no matter how hard the white house makes it for them. You will just have to work harder, do these things. You will not get what you got under the previous administrations, which was spoonfed, prepackaged news. You have to dig harder, and that in the long run could be bad news for the administration. Sandra as i mentioned, a lot of news coming in this afternoon. The senate Just Announced this probe of Loretta Lynch is a former turned to max attorney generals behavior in the 2016 election. This is big news. Tell us why. Potentially, this could be quite large. We will see what the underlying facts are. We will see whats in there, but the possibility that Loretta Lynch, who james comey basically did everything that he could to put a blinking beacon next to her and point to potential misconduct on her part, not just at the back of the termite meaning but also with bill clinton, but also what she had told him to say about the investigation at the fact that that matched up with Democratic Party talking points. Theres a lot of exposure here in the fact that you have Diane Feinstein and other Democrats Join into estes question says that the folks from the Obama Administration arent out of the woods yet. Sandra chris stirewalt, thank you. Department of justice siding with texas in the battle over sanctuary cities. The head of a federal judges decision filed a legal statement arguing the states controversial s before law does not violate the constitution. Christian express from washington. What is he saying about what his department is making this move now . Attorney general jewett to match up session is arguing they are following president s lead. The word he used that texas is doing so very admirably. It was filed today. The attorney general said the department of justice fully supports texas efforts and is participating in this lawsuit because its a strong federal interest in facilitating the state and local cooperation that is critical in enforcing our nations immigration laws. It would try to force sanctuary cities to cooperate with federal immigration officials, and also give local police the authority to ask anyone during a routine traffic stop about their immigration status. But this lawsuit, which is been joined by four of the states largest cities, dallas, houston, austin, and san antonio, it alleges that this wall was designed by the governor just last month is unconstitutional because it undermines their local authority by forcing them to carry out the agenda of the federal government. First hearing set for monday, sandra. Sandra thank you, kristin. One with this neurotic effect . As of now, its scheduled to take effect in september. The lawsuit could certainly delay it. The federal judge could decide to put it on hold just like the president s proposed travel ban. President trump is continuing to make it one of its signature issues as indicating at that rally in iowa just 10 minutes ago. No issue is more central to Public Safety than the issue of immigration and border security. Expect a lot of support for texas from the Trump Administration as if lawsuits continue to make its way through the court. Sandra thank you. At some point, the driver came to an abrupt stop before crossing into a patrol car and injuring an officer. It started with officers believing she was driving a stolen car. She seen casually smoking and cigarette and leaning out of cars sunroof as at least six officers approached with guns drawn. For the Senate Republican Health Care Bill to pass, President Trump need support from key republican senators. The four of them say the legislation does not have their vote. The way it is written at this moment. The president remains confident saying we will get there. With more reaction with the senate, peter joins us. How hard is President Trump leaning on these lawmakers to back the health care draft . Right now, it doesnt sound like the president is leaning on them but he is listening to them. Sean spicer said a little while ago that they have the white house legislative team and tom price working behind the scenes with the president on some technical things they can do to tweak the bill to get some more senators on board. President trump said in an interview the air this morning, he thinks that they will get this thing across the finish line. They are four good guys and four friends of mine. I think they will probably get there. We will have to see. Health care is a very difficult situation. If you look at clintons, they try to get it. After years and years, they couldnt do it. Obamacare was a murder for them to get. And now its failed. Senator ted cruz was handing out a piece of paper yesterday with four things that could make him flip from a note to a yes, things like making it easier to buy and sell insurance across state lines. The other three senators who say they are no votes, johnson, paul, and at least say they want more of obamacare repealed. Sandra how long until we know more about senators on the fence right now they want vote. And mike at some more insight into thinking of one of the senators who is skeptical, known to be skeptical of the bill and that is a dean heller in just a few minutes. Heller is up for reelection this cycle, so he may have that as part of his calculation. He also said he wanted to check with governor sandoval about Senate Health care draft in nevada before making up his mind and the two of them are going to have a press conference scheduled to start in about 15 minutes from right now. Of the other senators in place today, two of them are saying they want the package to have more money to fund the Opioid Epidemic to combat the Opioid Epidemic. Thats West Virginia senator selling my capital and how senator rob portman. Two others have been saying they dont want the Senate Package to defund planned parenthood, which this bill could do that. Senator Susan Collins and senator Lisa Murkowski stand there. Sandra ally from capitol hill, thank you. New publication from north korea. Plus, a battle with little margin for error for republicans as they try to pass the Health Care Bill in the senate. With zero democratic support. North korea reacting to the death of otto warmbier, the regime fiercely deny claims that it tortured or mistreated the American College student, insisting that the biggest victim and all of this is north korea. Senior Foreign Affairs correspondent, greg, what else is north korea staying . Senator max you are right. The death of the 20yearold on a more beer and are pretty much as one would expect from the regime. Frankly pretty pathetic. The 23yearold American College student was held for more than 18 months in captivity in north korea. He was released last week in a coma with brain damage. Buried yesterday. Today, the regime spokesman quoted as saying belief that he was abused during active at captivity while he is groundless. They acted in a humanitarian fashion. The negative account of his captivity amounted to a Smear Campaign against the regime of kim jongun. That warmbier was actually the victim of failed policies of the president Obama Administration. President obama spokesman this week saying that their top effort was to try and release all the americans held in captivity during that time. Sandra we are also learning that north korea testfired these missile engines. What else we know about that . A lot of activity on both sides of the dnc actually this week. According to fox news, there was a test firing this week of a missile which could be used in an icbm by pyongyang which could be tipped with a nuclear warhead, which could reach continental United States in the next couple of years. South korea today responding in kind, test firing a mediumrange missile, which would be capable of hitting targets and north korea as well. Activity on both sides. The north testing a rocket engine that u. S. Officials say could beat the development of a ballistic missile. Lets bring in general jack keane. General, always good to see you. Lets start first with this big news. North korea launching this new rocket engine. You have to remind everybody, this just coming after President Trump has kind of tried on north korea but doesnt look like it will work out. Where does this go . Thats a tough part to ask here but here is what i think is happening. North korea is rapidly and steadily launching toward weapon i think Ballistic Missiles and also developing the intercontinental ballistic mitchell which is what this rocket test was all about today. Nothing has afforded them from that objective, not china, not any rhetoric coming out of the United States, not a Carrier Strike group, et cetera. They are on the march towards that capability. With the trump tape and is recognizing that china is not going to deliver and they have a skepticism about that from the beginning certainly is anybody would knowing the circumstances with china and north korea. What we will see is the trump team coming to the point where it will put maximum pressure on north korea, and by that, i mean any ally of ours who is doing business with north korea, this administration is going to try and get them to shut that down, and i think were going to see them go after china because most of the trade between north korea and china and of the money exchanged is with china. That means going after the banks in china that are supporting north korea. That would be a first for the United States to ever have change in china. But thats the path we are on. Sandra you think thats a strategy that the president would want to employ. Yes. I cant speak for him, but when you just think through this in terms of what are the options left, thats whats left. I believe this team, this team that surrounds the president , its a very determined to bring them to a favorable ending. They are going to go after this thing with as much as they possibly can. Sandra general, i also want to get to russia firing these rockets into syria where we are learning worship had six ices targets in syria according to state media. What is happening there. Certainly russia is in syria for one reason, to prop up the assad regime. They had done that successfully along along with the iranians. They told the domestic audience, the people at home, that the people for reason for coming to syria was to defeat isis. That was somewhat of a false narrative. On occasion that they would deliver an assault against ices, very publicly back home, they would show the video of all of that and get them in the the impression that they are fighting ices every single day, not true. Nonetheless, there is the military significance to where this attack took place east of the city in, providence. Its a further piece of that, isis is in control of oil fields that the syrian regime, the iranians, and the russians want to return to the syrian regime. Its a money maker and right now isis has that moneymaker. This is likely a little bit of preparation for a military operation against ices and those oilfields. Sandra tensions between that, how would you describe at the moment . I think we will do everything that we can to avoid any conflict with each other in syria. Certainly we were there together, they have all the instruments of war there, and things can happen that are unintended in terms of consequence. But i dont see for a minute russia doing anything against the United States taking action to protect its own forces on the ground. Thats what we did when we shot down that syrian jet. We would do that again wherever it takes place. Russia, believe me, does not want to take on the United States directly because if they did we would destroy that air base, and that is a Strategic Asset that they have. The years of accomplishments they achieved and used their influence around the middle east and they will protect it. Sandra a huge piece of legislation signed in the white house in the past hour in the noon hour. This va accountability act. President trump following through on a campaign progress. Do you believe what he is putting in place will bring many to change there . Thats a big deal. The va is one of by the American People as not being able to get rid of people, that shouldnt even be part of the organization. This is going to be able to have the va fire someone immediately, kind of like what would happen in the process of when you have somebody that is bona fide nonperformer. This va secretary and the president have turned this organization around. They have made a lot of progress, and by context have given me some pretty positive feedback about wait times going down, access to doctors going up, veterans able to pick their own doctors. They are making some progress here. They are beginning to turn this thing in favor of the veterans. This probably is still a ways away from getting where they totally wanted to be, but they turned this and this is a good news for our bats. Sandra the president said one of the biggest changes to our history of the va, huge legislation that he signed there today. As you point out, this allows the firing of those people that need to be fired and also protects whistleblowers because thats so important. It is important. It got a white house, obviously not quite in the white house, but its a whistleblower line to the va in the white house. That doesnt exist for any other agency, and certainly that will likely get used. You can tell the attitude of the va has changed so much because they want people to tell them whats wrong. They want to do something about it, and thats the change in culture. Sandra as the president said when he was signing this legislation, he said we owe this to our veterans, we owe everything to our veterans for the blood, sweat, and tears in what they do to protect this country. You hope it brings that necessary. I know it is near and dear to you to your cart to my car. If i may ask at this moment in time, were waiting to get feedback from the White House Press briefing that was offcamera today. Just a status of things come up morale in the military, how are things going in your opinion right now as far as progress of this president is making . The funding for the military really hasnt hit the military edge, and i think many of us are disappointed by the president s fiscal year 18 budget because it doesnt have nearly enough money in it. To be frank about it, its just 3 above what president obama had forecasted for fiscal year 18. John mccain and the house organizes community by max thornburgh, both of them together are going to try and add about 40 billion to that fy 18 budget. If that happens in a gets approved, then we are going to be moving in the right direction. Sandra it reminds me of something i had in front of me. The Va Health Care costs are eating the Defense Department alive. I thought that was important to get in there and we did talk about the change that is being brought about for our veterans in the va on the state. No doubt about that. Health care costs are rising in the private sector for every american, and its certainly no different inside the United States military and inside the va. Health care is expensive no matter who is administrating it, and those costs are rising every single year. In the Defense Department, the personnel costs to include paying our troops, taking care of health care, taking care of retired community is somewhere around 0. 61 on a dollar. That is staggering and its going up. Sandra i also wanted to ask you, thank you for hanging on here for us, we are waiting to hear out of the white house shortly here holding that offcamera gaggle. Iran holding the annual antiisrael rally displaying missiles, staging these antiisrael rallies across the country and condemning israels israels and chanting death to israel. Youre wondering how we are forced to do business with a country that takes on these views. We care. The iranians, from 1981, the Islamic State was foreman iran after the resolution in 1979 and throughout the shop. Every single year, they talk about two major things come up what is there going to drive the great satan out of the middle east, the United States. If they have to kill american soldiers and american officials, they will do that. Number two, and this is every single year they say it, we are going to destroy the state of israel. Those are the two intermediate objectives to be able to dominate and control the middle east. They have been steady about that business ever since. Hezbollah in lebanon and hamas in the gaza strip had tens, not hundreds, tens of thousands of rockets and missiles from one place and one place only, iran. They use those missiles that we have seen throughout the many years. Also, the iranians are on the move in the middle east. That influence and control of the lebanon, syria, iraq, and they toppled the government and em and a couple years ago. This is the regime that is absolutely operating against u. S. Interests in the interest of our allies. We cannot let it go. Sandra always good to get your perspective on things. Thank you so much. White House Holding yet another offcamera briefing today barring cameras from shooting the News Conference and banning all live audio coverage. Until it was over, among the topics on the table health care, latest developments in the russia investigation. Chief White House Correspondent john roberts is now with us with more. What did you learn . Good afternoon to you. Didnt learn a lot more than we knew this morning. I talked with a Senior Administration official earlier today and said that the white house is actively engaged in trying to bring more senators on board. We had those four senators, mike lee, ted cruz, ron johnson, and rand paul will not support the bill in its current form. The president has been working the forms and talk to mitch mcconnell. We did learn from sean spicer this afternoon. Hes willing to work behind the scenes to try and bring amendments to changes to the bill that could get it across the goal line. Sean spicer did say this afternoon its not as much as a heavier left at the house bill because of 46 people hear it rather than 2030 people. Earlier today on fox friends talking with ainsley earhardt, the president did indicate that he has optimistic about the chances of getting this past this year. Its a very complicated situation from the standpoint. You do something thats good for one person but that for another. Its a very, very narrow path. I think we are going to get there. We have four very good people its not that they are opposed, they would like to get certain changes. We will see if we can take care of that. One thing we did learn this afternoon is that while the president has said repeatedly he doesnt expect to get one democratic vote on the Health Care Bill, he is talking with West Virginia joe manchin to see if there is some way to bring him and maybe one or two other democrats on board. Even though the president is outwardly pessimistic behind the scene, a little bit of optimism, maybe a small comer of hope that you can get at least a touch of bipartisanship here. Sandra john, is the white house still questioning the legitimacy of Robert Mueller . I asked the question at the briefing today with sean spicer whether or not the president is of the same mind as he was last week that he will not take steps to remove Robert Mueller from his position. Sean spicer said the president speaking on that hasnt changed, but in the interview this morning with ainsley earhardt, the president seem to indicate that he thinks Robert Mueller does have potential conflict of interest here. Listen to what the president said. He is very, very good friends with comey. Which is very bothersome. He is also we will have to see. We will have to see in terms of there being no obstruction, no collusion, there has been leaking by comey. I can say that people that have been hired are all Hillary Clinton supporters. Some of them worked for Hillary Clinton. The whole thing is ridiculous, if you want the truth from that standpoint. Robert mueller is an honorable man, and hopefully he will come up with an honorable solution. Subtle suggestion there that maybe there is a case under which Robert Mueller might have to recuse himself from the investigation. The president clearly concerned about the fact that a lot of democrats seem to be brought on board to moellers team. I talked with president s outside counsel today because typically questions about the Russian Investigation are referred to them. They believe that Robert Mueller is an honorable man and will do his best. Key we will keep artemis to see where it goes. Sandra john roberts, thank you for the update. Getting swept in special elections this year, some jello democrats are calling for nancy pelosi to step aside. Let someone else take the helm. What a new leader do anything to help write their ship . I accept i take easier trails than i used to. I even accept i have a higher risk of stroke due to afib, a type of irregular heartbeat not caused by a heart valve problem. But no matter what path i take, i go for my best. So if theres Something Better than warfarin, ill go for that too. Eliquis. Eliquis reduced the risk of stroke better than warfarin, plus had less major bleeding than warfarin. Eliquis had both. Dont stop taking eliquis unless your doctor tells you to, as stopping increases your risk of having a stroke. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily. And it may take longer than usual for any bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. Im still going for my best. And for eliquis. Ask your doctor about eliquis. White house just wrapped up in sean spicer answer questions from reporters. He talked about the president s comments of james comey and Robert Mueller and whether the president believes russia actually did interfere with the election. U. S. Intelligence Officials Say there is no doubt that it happened. We will go back to the white house at the top of the order to make our with Shepard Smith reporting. See you then. Sandra a thunderbird f16 flipping over as it came off the runway in dayton, ohio, today. The aircraft was practically thing for the dayton airshow when police say the jet ended up on his top. They were working to pull the to be put inside of the f16. They said this twoseater landed and was heading back to the staging area when it was like a gust of wind flipped the jet, no word on any injury. President obama once again hitting the campaign trail. Something for virginias lieutenant and his bid for governor. Democrats watching this race closely, hoping President Trumps unpopularity will mobilize the base. That strategy has not worked so far in special elections this year, and there is grumbling around some democrats that nancy pelosi needs to step down as minority leader. I look to a lot of my colleagues now. We have a lot of talent in the Democratic Party. The problem is we dont have an infrastructure in our caucus that allows more voices to be heard. Thats the problem. Sandra former manager of president ial campaign and a fox news contributor, alex, is a former Communications Director for senator marco rubio. Joe, ill start with you first. Is it time that she goes . Its like welcome to being leader. Its the same thing that happened to paul ryan, helping to consider before him. Therell be people in the caucus the leader of the party in the house in represented that are going to be unhappy and particularly on the democratic side, there was a bunch of new, Young Democratic stars but could kind of want to emerge and wanting leadership. There are quite a few of them. Tim ryan who challenged her just recently in some of those members. He saw congressman rice there. They want to challenge for new leadership. Thats not unusual at all. Nancy pelosi has been through this before. Its not her first time at the rodeo. Just like paul ryan had to deal with the House Freedom caucus and vader did. It will be divisions. My sense is that none of these, and your party, get picked until theres a race for president. You have to fight the different wings of the party and somebody emerges like donald trump. Speak what i want to get to alex here because a track record under nancy pelosi is not good. The democrats cant seem to quit her, why . I think the cats have a huge generational challenge. Look at the Republican Party, its clear who our next leaders are. Paul ryan, marco rubio, they are the next generation of great conservative republican leaders. Then you look at the Democratic Party and who is it to back the next generation of leadership there . The number two guy in the house at 78 years old. He is even older than nancy pelosi. Theres a huge generational problem facing the Democratic Party and once nancy pelosi and danny hoyer leave the stage, its not at all clear who takes over next. I think that is the challenge and that is why democrats in the house continue to have nancy pelosi represent them as their leader, even though, as you point out, her record at winning elections is abysmal. She is the best thing that ever happened to the Republican Party going into the midterms next year. We can make a selection about whether you want nancy pelosi to be the speaker of the house. We will hold onto the house next year, i guarantee it. Sandra will have to leave it there. Thank you for your time. Wildfire scorching utah, miles of acres of burner. Evacuations underway. Sandra some good news for commuters with gas prices dropping, which is a typical summer time trend. We could see the lowest prices for gas all year. Fox Business Network joins us live from the refinery in illinois. Jeff, what is causing this drop in gas prices . We are really in a sweet spot right now. Oil prices low enough to force gas prices down but not so low that you get oil rigs going offline and driving prices back up. Take a look at the average right now. National average 2. 27. In some states are already below two dollars a gallon on average like South Carolina and oklahom oklahoma. He was production is still strong. We are still about 40barrel. Thats kind of the breakeven point there for a lot of wells. We are 9 Million Barrels a day plus last week in the u. S. Thats a Million Barrels more a day than we were at this point last year. U. S. Production is holding on. The other piece of this is demand. We are not driving as much apparently as we thought. They put a note out today saying we not doubt that the man growth will accelerate sufficiently to break the current downward price momentum. They dont see demand picking up which would drain some of that supply. As i said, we are about 43 a barrel, its a real sweet spot. We have cheap gas, and you know if we stay here, let me go on for a while. Its usually higher in the summer, summer plans cost more to make, but right now we have lower prices and that may continue for the foreseeable future. Sandra remember the prices can certainly fluctuate, but i was just looking at the drop so far this year and the price of oil, oil is up 22 from its highest point of 2017. That will lead to a drop in gas prices all right. Jeff locke, thank you. I dont think theres any other way it would happen. Sandra thank you very much, sir. We will be right back. Intelligent.
