Hes at his golf course, one would think if wed see him get out of the motorcade thered be more preparation from the secret service. We dont want to set expectations too high. What weve got here is a load of Trump Supporters who are hanging out right now in the middle of Freedom Plaza. This is, as you mentioned right around the corner from the white house, down the block from the Capitol Building on pennsylvania avenue. The official program just started a short bit ago. The trump mode cade did drive through, did a little lap before the president went out to his golf course in virginia. This rally is a product of several groups and hash tags, names like women for trump, maga, and stop the steal. The women for trump have the programs, well have congresswoman louie gohmert. And theyre trying to organize the group to go a mile and a half up to the Capitol Building and the Supreme Court. For the last few hours, theyve been life Live Streaming and four more years. And many are picking up that the election was stolen, no proof of that. The d. C. Police are monitoring and the city closed down the perimeter. You have passionate people and trump flags and the like and steadily streaming in and police here. And also supposed to be counter protests weve seen scheduled online and havent been that many of them. Weve had folks come down with biden flags and this is the district of columbia, voted overwhelmingly from biden and harris. And from what weve seen all has been peaceful. Back to you guys. Gillian rich, if you can stick with us for a second. I want you to double down something i heard you say earlier for neil, which is good news for all of us who live here in washington, not a lot of violence, not a lot of threats, not a lot of sort of agitators in this crowd that youve seen. Is that right . Is that now holding a couple hours later . Thats what weve seen. Gillian, what we have here, this is the basis of the protest so Freedom Plaza is an open plaza in the middle of pennsylvania avenue right around the corner from the white house. So that plaza right now is filled with Trump Supporters. They have the d. C. The government has closed down Downtown Washington so youve had some different groups of people who sort of walked off or Walking Around the downtown area. We dont have too much visibility on them we dont know whats going on three or four blocks from here. But the main part weve seen downtown, we havent seen any sense of violence. You hear some of the talk, but a few biden supporters who have come down here, almost sound like two fans from two different baseball teams going at each other from an away game. But nothing thus far escalated to violence and youve got u. S. Park police and the metropolitan Police Department, who have a very solid presence here. Were looking i know its hard to see, but youre looking at a camera, up, a down on the Freedom Plaza and the crowd continues to grow and pack in. What do these folks want . I get the stop the steal, but whats the second half of the question. It seems reasonable people can agree that its more than likely that joe biden is going to be inaugurated on january 20th. Is it that they really believe that President Trump will get a second term or complain that things arent fair . Yes, what youve got here is youve got a lot of different comments regarding that. Youve had some biden supporters and Trump Supporters going back and forth. Often what youll hear is that the media does not call these elections. Basically, what youre hearing from the white house is what youre hearing from some of the supporters, and even though you have a situation where the government vote totals now, they havent been certified, but the vote totals that politicians have been using, democrat and republican, to declare victory this year, and for decades prior to this, show that joe biden has won this election, but youve still got folks here who are saying, somehow, some way theres going to be an intervention, whether theres an unfounded claim that theres been Election Fraud or for the president and four more consecutive years for the preds, but youve just got a lot of support for President Trump. This feels a lot like a rally you would have attended a couple of weeks ago before the election happened. Its a lot of support. A partylike atmosphere in many ways and you cant say that the folks here are downtrodden or feel like its been defeat. It feels like something. I was at a trump rally in North Carolina the week before the election, a similar vibe. Two weeks before that, was in florida and wisconsin. All the same. Very consistent feeling and youve got that down here today and youve still got people scre streaming into this rally. I think it was supposed to start at noon. People started gathering hours before then and they are still walking into Freedom Plaza. Leland rich edson down on the ground. Screen right. Area voted for President Trump so a lot of folks in from out of town and well get a better feel on that in the coming hours, rich. Thank you very much. As rich mentioned, President Trump did make his promised stop by, it was a little bit of a driveby. You can see the motorcade. This was taken by the press pool, which travels with the president so they would have left the south lawn of the white house, and then come through this area here, which is on the east side of the white house. Only about a block or two away and this was about 10 30 this morning as the president is on his way out to play golf. And you can see his crowd of quite enthusiastic group of supporters. We have some video on the ground as well. People running along and cheering and chanting with the motorcade. Unclear if the president is going to make another driveby when he comes back this afternoon, but weve seen no preparations for any kind of speech or any kind of remarks by the president or coming out and saying hello. Its a little reminiscent, gillian, of the drive from walter reed when he left walter reed, he was there because of covid and waved out the window. I was also thinking looking at the president s motorcade driving through the crowds, it looks a lot like inauguration day, you know. Leland the crowds are better controlled on inauguration day. Gillian and secret service, but to richs point these guys are not downtrodden that their guy lost. Theyre excited and happy about President Trump and are here to support him. Leland well, they definitely are and we bring in david spunt now on the north lawn of the white house. This might give us an idea how loud the chant is, can you hear those from Freedom Plaza . Faintly. But theres a lot of construction for the reviewing stand for president elect biden and his family. And that goes on regardless. So youre hearing construct. In the distance you can hear faint excitement for the large group. Theyre going to be leaving Freedom Plaza and marching to the Supreme Court and thats away from the white house and were not going to hear as much of that. President trump went through the crowd earlier today excited on his way to golf. Theres a video of the president smiling, giving the thumbs up as he passed by and several staffers retweeting, tweets about this massive really going on right now in washington d. C. Some calling it the million maga march. As i mentioned, the president is golfing at his club in Northern Virginia and at this point there are still no plans to concede. No hint of any concession. Leland, yesterday he came out on camera in the rose garden to speak for the first time in eight days, thats the longest time that weve seen him since hes been president not get in front of the camera and talked about operation warped speed, spurred by his administration. The good news he says that vaccine will be available to the masses by april and while talking about the vaccine he singled out new york and the states governor, andrew cuomo. Listen here. He doesnt trust the fact that its this white house, this administration. So, we wont be delivering it to new york until we have authorization to do so and that pains me to say that. This is a very successful, amazing vaccines at 90 and more, but so the governor, Governor Cuomo will have to let us know when hes ready for it. But Governor Cuomo and his team not taking it sitting down there. Latisha james the attorney general for new york put out a statement immediately following the predss comments, if dissemination of the vaccines takes place in the twilight of the administration and the president wants to play games with peoples lives, we will sue and win and she says this is nothing, but vindictive behavior by a lame duck president , trying to extract vengeance and those who with his politics. And general kelly put out a harsh statement the president is putting the country in danger because hes not allowing joe biden to receive classified briefings, basically so he can hit the ground running. The trump team continuing some legal fights although theyre over in pennsylvania and arizona, but even if President Trump does not concede and general kelly said he doesnt have to concede, it goes on. Life goes on and this inauguration stand goes on and the new President Biden will be inaugurated on january 20th. Well see if the president comes by on his way back from golf. Probably they will be closer to the Supreme Court. Go through the vote totals, in georgia the president is currently behind and theres recount there and people say they dont think theyll change even republican officials there. Pennsylvania the president is behind by tens of thousands of votes even if you win the lawsuits it doesnt count those and wouldnt make up for the difference. Nevada the president is behind. Arizona the president is far behind even though your Campaign Said last week, the president would be ahead. Wisconsin the president is behind as well. Let talk about pennsylvania, there are almost 700,000 votes in pennsylvania that were counted in opposition to the constitution. And an actual egregious error where they violated. So tell us from a National Security professor perspective because you get the good briefings, what is the situation were really in right now . Are we really vulnerable . But the longer you wait to get the internal briefings, the harder it will be to hit the ground running. Has reported more than 100,000 daily new cases and officials dont see those numbers slowing down anytime soon, as the winter months approach. The country averaged about 140,000 daily new infections over the last week. Public Health Officials nationwide are pleading with americans to take precautions to stop the spread of the virus and youre hearing those calls more in places like north dakota who has the highest deaths in per capita and struggling to contain it and turn around. The governor gave for public restrictions, imposing a mask mandate, restrictions on Indoor Dining and suspension of High School Sports and activities until about mid december. Dr. Fauci continuing his call for people to take this virus seriously. Public Health Measures that are rather simple and easy to understand, the universal wearing of masks, the physical distancing, the avoiding congregate and crowded places, outdoors better than indoors. Washing hands. It sounds simple in the context of this ominous outbreak, but in fact it can turn it around and thats what we need it to do. On friday the Trump Administration said as many as 20 million americans will receive a Coronavirus Vaccine by the end of the year, that news coming on the heels of pfizers announcement that early data has shown its vaccine is about 90 effective in people and in pfizers case its vaccines need to be stored at very local temperatures and probably administered in two doses, there are logistical concerns whether the states will be able to keep up with the demand. Before we get into the specifics of this weekend, i want to ask you a question, its a question i think thats underexamined, the narrative about the virus right now in this country is exploding case numbers, exploding hospitalizations, dozens of states from coast to coast. But at this point weve also seen over 10 million americans contract the virus and recover from it, including myself. Thats a story that is not told and i think should offer some comfort to americans who are terrified, frankly, moving into this winter. Well, gillian, congratulations, im glad that you recovered from the virus. Gillian thank you. But thats always wonderful. But obviously this virus will infect many people, its highly contagious. The majority of people will not become seriously ill, but some will, and that minority is very sizable and when you get sick, you can get very sick. You can be put into the intensive care unit and obviously, you can die. Those are the infections that we would like to prevent, and the only way to do that is to reduce the transmission of this highly contagious virus and thats why were back to Wearing Masks, social distancing, and avoiding large groups. Those large Mass Gatherings in washington, i hope people are Wearing Masks. We need to slow the transmission of this virus because this winter, it will increase further as we spend more time together indoors for more prolonged periods of time. Gillian so on the vaccine now, were hearing the messaging from the white house is very optimistic. The messaging from the coronavirus is very optimistic, dr. Fauci said earlier this week he expects a vaccine to roll out in december and then its going to be available to the general public in april or may. Take a listen to President Trump yesterday. The vaccine will be distributed to frontline workers, the elderly and high risk americans immediately. It will be very a matter of weeks, get out very, very much ahead of schedule. Any schedule that i said were going to be for ahead of that. Are doctors like yourself taking this to the bank this week. Are you now counting and planning on this vaccine getting rolled out next month as everybody is saying or if is it kind of iffy . We havent taken it to the bank yet. We havent seen the data, the data will be seen by the food and Drug Administration and time to review it. That will be quite public and well all have a chance to do it, but i believe well start vaccinating firstline workers, health care workers, mblg medical technicians, people working in nursing homes, starting at the end of the year, that would be very good, but before it gets rolled out to people who are older, ill, essential workers and then the general public, that will extend over many months. This is a twodose vaccine and it can only be given in certain locations because it has to be kept very cold. You need trained workers to give it. It wont be in doctors offices or pharmacies and then theres one other thing, the vaccine really hurts when it goes in and it makes people feel crummy, many of them for about a day or so, you can get a degree of fever. Thats your immune response starting to work on that vaccine, but then well have to get people back for the second dose when the first one was, oh, and that will be difficult, so well have to give a lot of reassurance. President trump tweeted his displeasure because this recount doesnt include signature verification of the ballots, but state Election Officials explain once the ballot is accepted and cast, it becomes anonymous. This is an audit of the ballots that came through legally. Its going to have to be a post post election, if someone voted twice or a ballot for a dead person thats against the law. Theres no way to tie a ballot back to an individual human being. The number produced by this hand tally will become the states final certified result in the president ial election, only if does not affect georgias two senate races in which Kelly Loeffler and david perdue are heading into runoffs with the jon ossoff. We need to win the two senate races, georgians, i believe theyll show up because they know come january 5th, Health Care Access is on the ballot. We are the firewall, not just for the u. S. Senate, but the future of our country. And with the balance of power in the u. S. Senate in play, spending going into these runoffs, analysts believe it will be at least 200 Million Dollars and possibly as high as 500 million by both parties. Leland. There might be some leland you get a sense as you talk to these folks what motivates them . We get that they love the president but are they motivated more by their love of the president or their fear of what the hardcore left will bring . If you are watching, police not sure what this is all about, largely downtown a lot of criticism. A lot of yelling. We havent seen any physical violence. A lot of retail and Office Buildings all closed down, Police Officers and other folks, tough to see what is going on. For the most part, you have the view counter protesters, opponents of donald trump, you have heard plenty of vitriol between the two and nasty remarks but as far as that, tough to tell if that is where things are headed. People who are trump protesters who are here, when we protest we dont burn down cities. Some more of what you have heard here. As the march continues, picking up where rich left off. I have covered a lot of these, a few comments your point, things go pearshaped and they have in a number of cities but i have never seen a large protrump devastation like this go pearshaped in a significant way and the time i spent in these rallies there is a different feel to them than the anchor we have seen, different feel, go to a maga or protest like this the feeling and level of vitriol is different, much more positive, i am generalizing, i was in philadelphia when there is real looting and rioting and violence.
