Cottage. Paul marcs life at the white house with more. This video really just came out last hour or so. It was released to fox news and other media organizations across the country. As you mention, it came from the attorney of lava parnas who is a former associate of rudy giuliani. This video appears to be taken in 2018 and it made have been recorded on a cell phone. It bounces around disc because it was being taken discreetly. It appears to be showing President Trump saying get rid of her. And saying she may not be supporting the president. The video is about an hour long and you can see it is just raw footage here. We asked the white house about this on friday because the report was about the existence of this tape in the comments about yovanovitch. The presser told on friday that every president in our history has the right to place people who support his agenda and policies within the administration. We reached up to the white house to see if they have any additional comments but we have not heard back. Meantime President Trumps lawyers are arguing that the impeachment case its making its way up on capitol hill is all about overturning the 2016 election and then hindering the election going into 2020. One should listen to at the white House Counsel had to say on senate floor earlier today. And they did not tell you what that would mean for our country. Today, this year, and forever into our future. They are asking you to do something that no senate has ever done. And they are asking you to do it with no evidence. Now the president s defense team said the presentation was a sneak preview of what they will be laying out on monday. It appears the president was watching the proceedings based on his tweet late this afternoon he wrote any fairminded person watching the senate trial today, would be able to see how unfairly i have been treated in this indeed beat total partisan impeachment hoax this should never be allowed to happen again. That was the president on twitter this afternoon. We expect the defense team to continue to argue the president did not have assistance on anything and the comments that president zelensky said there was no quid pro quo and he did not expect any pressure. We expect that would happen after people of asked question. We have not seen the president on camera today. We know hes expected to keep a busy schedule next week as impeachment moves on. Eric are wrapping up the first of opening arguments in them Senate Impeachment trial, the defense team claiming the Democratic House managers have no evidence to convict or support removing the president from office. All this amid the looming question of whether the senate will eventually call new witnesses. On the first day, i said i thought they did a good job of weaving a tapestry that was compelling lest it stand up to scrutiny. What i say today that tapestry looks a lot different than it did a few days ago. And thats the way trials are conducted. They made the argument that no one really knows what the president intended. Mick mulvaney knows, and all likelihood mr. Blair knows, mr. Bolton may know. Why shouldnt we have witnesses and documents here. Speed five many wondering if formal break from the pack for witness. We well break it all down from us from the hill. Brevity was the word of the day in the senate trial as the president s lawyers began their defense. Heres white House CounselPat Cipollone. We are going to be very respectful of your time, we anticipate going about two to three hours at most and be out of here by 1 00 oclock at the latest. They were out a lot earlier than that. This was a concerted effort from President Trumps legal team to sway senators after hours of lengthy arguments presented by the Democratic House impeachment managers. Deputy white House Counsel defended the president s late july phone call between the president and the leader of ukraine. The fact that president zelensky had no pressure at all and did not perceive any connection between a Security Assistance and investigations board in any ordinary case, and any court, be totally fatal to the prosecution. The judge would throw it out, the case would be over, what more do you need to know . The president s defense team tried to undercut the house impeachment managers again raising questions about the whistleblower, the Intelligence Committee which is chaired by adam schiff. I dont even know who the whistleblower is. The whistleblower came to our committee, and the president s counsel was perfect but silly ambiguous about this. And said we got some kind of advice. While the advice that he or she, the whistleblower got, was you should talk to a lawyer and you should talk to the inspector general. I spoke today to someone who is familiar with this. The president thought things went very well and he wants to wrap this up expeditiously. The key now im told is for people to not screw up on the sunday shows that they go out there and defend the president and the republicans try to get their message out as they go into the trial come monday. Eric theres a lot there tomorrow we have the Public Affairs show on Fox News Sunday. Arthel from one right now we are bringing in oklahoma senator he is the chairman of the Armed Services committee. Center thank you for joining us. Aside to be with you. Arthel what do you think of the president s Defense Team Arguments of what you make of the brevity of their presentation . First about a thing its a good idea because they are going to get 24 hours, i guess it is. It doesnt matter if its saturday, monday or tuesday. The president feels, and i was with him yesterday, in fact the handle argument with him because he was saying we should not even be starting on saturday and i countered a lot of your people they are working people. They are there on saturday want to see it. So they split down the middle. I think they had two hours today maybe two and half hours and the rest of it there will be 21 hours in the next two days on monday and tuesday. So i think that is good, i think they may not even use all of their time. You see once we go to that, we go to the questions from the members, ive got my questions i am ready, and then we are coming down to a close. So it could all be ended this week. Arthel was there anything particular you are listing for today and did you hear anything that is change your mind . I really didnt, first of all i was very familiar with all of the accusations, all the namecalling, all the yelling and screaming that has taken place with the 24 hours we had schiff in the crowd in there. So i was watching that and i know all those issues. But i do all of them to be false. So i knew before they came up and defended it what the real truth was in those areas. You have to remember there are only two articles that they voted on. And both of them. [inaudible] the first one being no direct evidence, it was all hearsay, it was not directive. And when you talk about the obstruction of congress, and the abuse of power, those things were all stopped on the obstruction of congress. I dont how they overlooked it. But apparently its not just the public that was cheated or the president that was cheated out of his Constitutional Rights during the process and the senate and the house, it was also the house members. Because they are supposed to vote before they have an impeachment before it goes to the senate. And they never voted. And so i would say in terms of the obstruction of congress, thats not valid anyway because they never legally voted on it. So i liked what i heard, i think they did a good job. And i think also dated there was somebody things they did not talk about. I chair the Armed Services committee, and i bet 75 of the talk that we suffered through for the last three or four days, was about whether or not the president was offering the right help to our ally. And i happen to know what that situation is. I know because the first time we voted on it, was in 2016, that was during the Defense Authorization bill of that year. Oddly enough, two of the people, all of them that were there serving at that time, including shift voted against the help for our friends. They spent most of their time talking about that and they actually opposed it. So that is going to come out loud and clear. But the first major thing i think youre going to hear on monday. Arthel if you are talking about ukraine. Kiger short answered you expect any witnesses . [booing] no i dont think so but its a vote that is going to take place. All we have to do is pick off for republicans and there be a vote. I dont think there are. I am not a lawyer, but i know something about the process, and when you develop your case and have your depositions, youre ready to go to court, you dont come to court and ask for witnesses after youve already presented your case unless you know your case is not working. So i think the real motivation is for them to keep this president busy. Here weve got a lot of things we should be doing, were doing a great job in the economy, were building our military, look at the judges we have right now. So good things are happening, but they would like to stop those things from happening so they can talk about impeaching the president as long as they can between now and november. And we are just not let that happen. Arthel all right senator jim inhofe of oklahoma, thank you. Eric know that the sports term. But meanwhile something more serious center for Disease Control can firm and theres now a second case of coronavirus here in our country. Health Officials Say that a woman, who recently did return from wuhan china, thats a city at the epicenter of the outbreak that she apparently has it. Meanwhile authorities in many countries around the globe they have just started screening travelers coming from china and isolating anyone who exhibits any symptoms. Christina coleman following the developments my west coast newsroom. As of right now on the u. S. The cbc is investigating 63 cases and 22 states. She returned from wuhan china and a few days later she will ported possible symptoms. She is being monitored at this time it is in stable conditions according to Health Officials. And both cases said they followed the protocol that they prepared for handling the situation. We identified the potential risk of this virus early, and worked through all levels of the u. S. The chicago patient arrived about two weeks before they started screening passengers. Arriving there for on a flight from wuhan china. Screenings from this illness are also taking place at San Francisco international airport, lax, new yorks jfk and into atlanta. Medical staff across the country are being briefed had a handle patients possibly sick from the strain of coronavirus. Meantime researchers are working hard to develop a vaccine for this virus. Arthel crews have recovered the bodies of three american firefighters killed in a plane crash while battling the wildfires in australia. The country grappling with one of the worst fire in its history. Investigators continue to work the scene of a crash which took the lives of those three homegrown firefighters who flew across the globe to be part of the massive firefight in australia which has scorched more than 27 million acres of land today. Now all three men were military veterans, two of them were fathers. Captain mcbeth of Montana First officer paul and Flight Engineer rick to morgan junior of florida. Now hudson and morgan junior both had experience with piloting and working as Flight Engineers on c130 aircraft. It was this very type of aircraft contracted by canada ace Coulson Aviation that went down on thursday. Investigators say they have not been able to explain why the four propeller plane crashed in a ball of fire shortly after debbie gets a load of water with additives to turbulent conditions. The bodies of all three will remove today from the still active fire zone and crash site as their family members arrived in sydney. What we did find in that initial sleep this morning was the aircraft cockpit voice recorder near the tail section of the aircraft. Weve also commits the painstaking meticulous mapping of the sites, it is quite a wide debris field and weve mapped all of those pieces of degroote brie. At least 33 people and more than 1 billion animals have been killed in the fires that started five months ago. Theyre still over 100 fires burning across the country right now some of which have been set deliberately. Australian officials said the americans relatives who began rat writing today in sydney will be offered an opportunity to visit the hillside crash site as the investigation continues. Its malco. Eric the 2020 president ial canids are looking to get their message out and thats the final weeks before the first votes are cast in iowa at the caucus. Former Vice President joe biden speaking with voters in New Hampshire. And iowa congresswoman is stopping for Bernie Sanders there today. Those caucuses nine days of waves. Jackies live in muscatine. Senator warren will be there later this afternoon. She jetted out fast from the center trial to be outward jacqui is. Hey eric, those three senators who were stuck in washington for the impeachment trial racing back to iowa tonight posting events here. Klobuchar, sanders, and warren all landing where there being picked up whether sarah gets left off picked up that campaigning there been missing out on. Here in muscatine senator warren woke have a town hall where they have been leaning on grassroots supporters to spread her message in her absence. They receive their 3 millionth donation which they have been using to support staff staffers across the states. She is working to grow her volunteer base. But for the candidates not tied up in washington its the time to seize the spotlight. Andrew yang is on a 17 day bus to across iowa. If they dont show up in february 3, theres a chance his message will die and iowa. The fact is many islands are still tuning in on who theyre gonna caucus four. The best way to reach them is by showing up in their town. In the meantime former Vice President joe biden is in New Hampshire, the first primary comes up just a week after the iowa caucuses. His wife doctor jill biden is campaigning in nevada. Told his voters he is having fatigue but it is having the right person in a matchup against President Trump, and that is him. And i know your trip probably saying thank god only 17 days left. But all kidding aside, you have an enormous responsibility to who you send out of New Hampshire is going to make a big difference about whos likely to be the democratic nominee as president. Now bidens campaign may have some ground to make up here and ill appear near times poll came out just today actually showed him in third place behind sanders and buttigieg. I definite turn for the former Vice President who for a long time of this campaign has been the front runner. Eric. Eric of course were going to hear a lot more from the candidates, some of them smart exclusive here on the fox news channel. Andrew yang will appear on Fox News Sunday that will play at 2 00 p. M. Tomorrow afternoon eastern. Then Chris Wallace holds a townhall special with buttigieg from iowa. This is mayor judges second townhall with fox news. He sat down this inmate in New Hampshire. The one tomorrow will be live right here, 7 00 p. M. Mayor pete and chris of the fox news channel. Before for the first time senators hear from the president s legal team how they are building a case for swift acquittal in which expect the trial resumes next week. This case is really not about the president s wrongdoing. This entire impeachment process is about the house managers insistence that they are able to read everybodys thoughts. Schwab introducing schwab intelligent income. A simple, modern way to pay yourself from your portfolio. Oh, thats cool. I mean, we dont have that. Schwab. A modern approach to wealth management. I was told to begin my aspirin regimen, blem. And i just didnt listen. Until i almost lost my life. My doctors again ordered me to take aspirin, and i do. Be sure to talk to your doctor before you begin an aspirin regimen. Listen to the doctor. Take it seriously. Retirement income. What my people have to do is just be honest and tell the truth. They can testify, the democrats have been telling so many lies in so many fabrications, so much exaggeration and this is not impeachable. Its. Eric that is fox president s news with President Trump last night. They are kicking off their arguments. Its after a three day with the house and teach meant managers. The Democratic Senators are demanding more from witnesses, while former republicans bolts and approve witnesses, he is the Real Clear Politics National politics. Phil good to see you then. Just a few minutes ago he said they would not be witnesses. But what is the headcount look like . Is there bolton, or hunter biden or Mick Mulvaney possibly called next week . Weve heard a lot of ongoing speculation whether or not the democrats are joe one to one trade, maybe bolton for biden. When heard a lot of theories so far, but at the end of the day that basic senate arithmetic remains. Republicans control the chamber and so far mcconnell has been master of the senate. He has maintained his caucus, gotten everyone on the same line, i think senator was correct a moment ago and it seems unlikely that at this point the white house, or Senate Republicans would want witnesses. Because so far, the preview we have heard today, they are getting the arguments out that they wanted from the very beginning. Eric previous today the senators have expressed openness lets say, to have some witnesses. Youve gotten susan collins, Lisa Michalski romney, cory gardner, any of those on that list that you think could make for or do you think in the end we wont see any witnesses . Right now it seems unlikely we would. The line for the white house afar as they dont believe anymore witnesses are required. Weve also heard from majority leader mcconnell said ascendant is not going to do the homework of the house. And so far that seems to be what remains right now. Even of the lighthouses but caveat on that. They said if witnesses are going to be called, they certainly want to have witnesses who are going to be with their case. But while were talking about those republican senators, i think its very important to keep an eye on red state democrats like joe manchin and doug jones because they could be very, very interesting and all this. They obviously want to hear from more witnesses, but so far they say theyre keeping an open mind. If they were to flip and go against their own party in this case, which seems unlikely, that would give the Trump Administration and ability to go into 2020 and say that it was a bipartisan vote to acquit the president. Eric what he thanks the odds of that . I think mansion he won reelection in 2018, he is someone that played nice with someone in the past, but i think that a lot of the speculation is premature. One thing that struck me today was how adam schiff sort of turned off a lot of republican senators when he questioned their independence and suggested theyre afraid of the white house. There is a quote where they said some of them are worried about having their heads on the stake. That is the sort of thing that is going to push a lot of republicans who might have been open to this in the other direction. Because, they believe they have been independent and they dont want to be lectured. Eric the reports of grumbling when he mentioned that amongst the republicans. Heres what mr. Schiff said after the presentation by the president s lawyers this morning. The one question they did not address at all is why they dont want to give the American People a fair trial. Why they want this to be the first impeachment case and history, without a single witness. And without a single document they turned over. That ought to tell you everything you need to know about the strengths and weaknesses of their case. Which is they know exactly what the president did, the president s men know exactly with the president dead, we proved what the president dead, and the last thing they want is more of the truth to come out. Spieth five that is a democratic argument harry think this is all that a shakeout . I think its very interesting in that soundbite right there because it does encapsulate whats going on right now. Democrats are making the argument that they have an overwhelming case and republicans point out then why do you need more evidence and witnesses . At the same time at the beginning of the segment we heard president short trump say our side needs to just tell a truth. But they respond if you want to tell the truth why not tell the whole truth and give us all the documents. This is the impasse we are at right now and this will shape the final result. Eric may be at the end of next week of the big after . I know a lot of 2020 campaigns or be very happy if it ends sooner rather than later. Theyd much rather be back in iowa. Telling our german magazine that iran is open to negotiations but only if washington makes a move to lift sanctions that have crippled irans economy. Not happening. Lucas tomlinson explains. This comes weeks after the u. S. Military killed irans most powerful general and stop the terrorist operation. Qassem soleimani said was a good friend and said soleimanis murder is the beginning of the u. S. Presence certainly in iraq but elsewhere in the region two. During a stop in ireland on his way home Vice President talk to soldiers, roughly 20000 more troops have been sent to the region since may blink bringing the total to 80000. Youre going to be deployed to region of the world that seem some action in the last several weeks. But i can tell you that all of our information as iran continues to stand down because we demonstrated american strength. It is been more than two weeks since iran fired those missiles at a basin iran housing american troops. They did not attempt to shoot down the missiles because there were no u. S. The damage weve done to the u. S. Is extensive because all of its military might it could not prevent the missiles from hitting its base. It shows have a liberal u. S. Is. We now know 34 u. S. Troops set our concussion or brain injuries from the attack. Eight have been sent to the u. S. For additional treatment nine remain in germany facility. Seventeen have returned to duty in iraq. It is not determined how severe this head injuries are. More than 5000 troops in iraq patriot air missiles are moving into protect them. Theres worldwide shortages of air missiles. Eric our thoughts and supported with those troops. Arthel lets bring in retired lieutenant, Vice President for National Security and foreign policy. Colonel thank you for joining us. Does this mean the strike on general soleimani was effective . Absolutely. I dont think theres any question about that. And if we roll the tape you may go back and look at the claims that this was headed towards a warpath, that was not realistic to begin with. The fact that this unfolded exactly as you would expected to unfold. It is just an affirmation that the United States dates has hit on a strategy that the iranians just dont have an effective counter for. They really cant start world war iii because they cant really get to the United States. And the United States is never going to give them the privilege to send massive army there to fight them. They can go tit for tat but we have so many ways to get the Iranian Regime that they cant get back at us. They really are boxed in. Arthel when you expect the negotiations to resume . What does a Trump Administration want . Does iran have any room to make demands . I think if the iranians are consistent, the first thing they want to do is wait and see the results of the u. S. Elections. I think theyre very confident that if just listening to the debate that if they had a president from the other side, they wouldnt have to do anything. The sanctions will be lifted, we would go back to even though the iran deal is almost over we would rubberstamp that deal again. And they would get breathing space to kinda refill their coffers. The problem is if trump is reelected he has been very consistent in how he negotiates and sets were not going to give you benefits at the front end. If you want to negotiate, you have to make a deal with us. The reality is its the only path forward for them if they really want to bring some strength back into the country and bring some money back in. And reenergize their economy. Arthel what is the deal President Trump once . It is a commitment that would actually make the region, and our allies confident of that iran does not have the capacity to reinstitute a program which could actually deliver nuclear weapons. That they would eliminate the Ballistic Missile program, and that they would make guarantees and enforceable guarantees, and terms of the support for surrogates which are deeply destabilizing the region. Without a competence of deal like that, i dont think the u. S. That negotiations would get very far. Arthel will this have any notable impact on iraq . I think iraq is an open question. There are three groups, the sunnis and kurds want the u. S. , and they dont want an extension of iranian influence because they would suffer as a result of that. And there are some who are currently what nobody wants is to have a security vacuum like when obama was there that leaves a space for rapid radicalization with isis or Group Similar to that. So iraq is really teetering, and there isnt a route clear direction that they can turn to that solves all the problems. Iraq is stuck the three groups are safest and they lived together and they have to figure out how to do that. And forces like the iranians which are just interested in expanding their influence, that is never going to be good for the future of iraq. Arthel colonel i have to leave it there, thank you for your time sir. Eric mike pompeo is responding today to a long time National Security reporter who works for National Public radio after she reported on some heated words that they said were exchanged after the interview. This happened during yesterdays oneonone with the secretary of state when the host of mprs all Things Considered asked him about warmer Ukraine Foreign minister yovanovitch after she stepped down in may of last year after being at odds with the trump missed. Take a listen. I have defended every state department, we have built a great team. Where have you defended Marie Yovanovitch can you point me toward your remarks were you defended marie evanovich. Of set on an essay today. Be five he abruptly ended the interview and she was asked moments later by the secretary of state to meet him in his living room area of his office privately. I was taken to the secretarys private living room where he was waiting and where he shouted at me for about the same amount of time is the interview itself had lasted. He was not happy to have been questioned about ukraine. He asked do you think Americans Care about ukraine . He used the f words and that sends and many others pay or he asked if i could find ukraine on a map and i said yes. He called out for his aides to bring him a map of the worlds with no countries mark. I pointed to grandy put the map away. He said people here about this. Eric sec. Disputes the account and violated journalistic rules about on off the record. Adding in the statement npr reporter Mary Louise Kelly lied to me twice. First last month and setting up her interview and then again yesterday on the post interview conversation off the record. It is shameful that this reporter chose to violate the basic rules of journalism and decency. But kelly said she never agreed to any part of their meeting being off the record, she says of a journalist she never would have. Going to have classrooms, labs, engine repair military veterans for the workforce as a transition back into civilian life. Ductal may Michael Haney is the executive director of Syracuse University vice chancellor. In just a few weeks this sounds fantastic. What is the need how did it start, will the center do . Says a veteran myself im very proud to have landed my own transition and any Deputy University that is a proud and long tradition and legacy of serving veterans. It goes back to world war ii and we welcomed more than 10000 world war ii veterans to our campus. Really what we are doing today, with the new National VeteransResource Center pays tribute to that legacy. This new facility will be a first of its kinds and all of higher education. Really positioned as a National Center of excellence focused on the social, economic, wellness concerns of the nations veterans and their families. Will run programs on that institute on military installations all of the United States. Currently, our institute for military families serves upwards of 25000 transitioning Service Members and veterans each year with career preparation, business ownerships, thus credentialing programs, and this new facility is really going to position to expand that impact and that reach dramatically. Eric order some the unique challenges they expect to face especially today. Thats a great question because one of the things we dont talk enough about, and my view, is now 18 years of sustained conflicts. That burden has really been shouldered by a small minority of americans, less then 1 of eligible americans have put on the uniform since 911. The consequence of that is when many of our Service Members from military service to civilian life, they are disconnected from Civil Society in many ways. You look at a workplace or College Campus and our veterans cant look to their left or to the right and see many people that had that same shared experience of military service. We are trying to do with the work we are doing at syracuse, is help bridge that divide. Whether its in the workplace, in a classroom, or in our community. It really is to build connectedness and build a bridge for those who have served, now back to their communities, back to educational institutions, back to the nations employers so that our veterans and their families can thrive in their life after service. Eric that is so fantastic it is so necessary. Even without the center youve served about a hundred and 25 veterans so far. So for anyone watching, a veteran now or someone coming back from overseas service. How did they get involved what should they do how did they reach out to you in the center . Sure, so to connect with us, is probably the most direct way is right through her website which is ibm ss why are. Edu. And i think more broadly my advice and recommendation is if youre looking to impact the life of a veteran or military connected family, it starts with just getting to know them. To reach out, they are in your community, they are in your workplace. Get to know them. That is the first step in building the connectedness i described. Eric this veterans Resource Center, doctor haney is not only a chancellor at the university ahead of the center but a Guiding Force is willing have been served in our military. But in the northeast, the storm expected to bring drenching rain. Meteorologist is in the extreme Weather Center with all the details and the forecast. Hi adam. You kinda lined up there as we talk about this big winter system sweeping across the country now getting into new england but it is more of rain at this point. Lets take a look at some of these numbers. 50 degrees in your city. That is not enough to support a winter storm. Back off towards the west midwest thats where the temperatures are little bit cooler and we saw some snow because of the system. Light snow across the portions of north indiana and chicago. The heaviest portion of the system now running up across to new york with heavy rains up to boston. The temperatures just to warm to turn into a whole lot of snow from now even as we continue to attract us to the rest of saturday and tapering down by early sunday morning. If the timestamp attention to it. The rain right now new york city lifting up to boston but it moves pretty quickly at the remain. We are in the backside of the system entirely by the time you get going early sunday morning. You do notice a little bit of colder temperatures behind it, those numbered strap with any lingering moisture will be snow. Its just not going to be enough snow to make a huge difference. Not feeling a ton like winter. So a lot of heavy rain up in the northeast, maybe some Higher Elevations you will see snow in upstate new york or across areas in england. But not a ton of snow. The other system we Pay Attention to in the Pacific North west has rounds and rounds of rain. At Higher Elevations this is been snow enough to close down some those mountain pathways. Steuer by and large is relatively mild january. So improved temperatures on sunday even a lot of places when you get down to freezing youre just hovering there 32 degrees. Spots across the country not horribly cold and you see that pretty much the whole week ahead. Monday into tuesday and wednesday. Its going to be soggy across the southeast in the week ahead. But these temperatures staying a little bit on the mild side heres we get late into january. Arthel i put my big heavy coat away for a while. Speak five super bowl 55 next. At booking. His attorneys this morning launch their defense on the Senate Impeachment trial. They argued the case is politically motivated and they accuse the democratic impeachment managers of trying to overturn the president ial election of 2016. Hello everyone im eric shawn and this is a brandnew hour of americas news has courted. Arthel and i am marcel nevill and after three long days of democratic arguments the president s defense team giving a brief to our preview of their argument and promising not to drag out the proceedings, when the trial resumes monday. The defense at one point focuses on the transcript of the president s july 25 call with ukrainian president zelensky saying democrats ignored parts where the president talked about burden sharing and corruption. Still unresolved whether we will hear from any witnesses. Meantime lawmakers on both sides weighing in. Its pretty clear to me, that the transcript was selectively utilized by the house. This a lot of evidence out there that the president has been consistent, not just with ukraine but reassessing foreign aid in general. I dont think the white house poked holes in the democratic case. I think they put assertions on the table that they think pokes holes, but those assertions, you cant just take the lawyers word for it assertions have to be proven. Before Congressional Correspondent chad is on capital hill with the latest. Good afternoon i just spoke with a source close to the present who spoke with the president of what he thought. He thought that he was very pleased he thought this gave him a mandate to wrap up the trail expeditiously. The white House CounselPat Cipollone, his goal today was undercut the arguments given by the houston aquatic impeachment managers. They didnt talk a lot about the transcript of the call. Which i would submit is the best evidence of what happened on the call. And they said things over and over again, that are simply not true. One of them was there is no evidence of President Trumps interest in burden sharing. But democrats believe cipollone made their case for them by citing the call. Jeff merkley said this is why democrats are still pushing for the administration to release all documents as part of the probe. What is really struck by was the emphasis on the july 25 transcript. And by the way its not a transcript it was a memorandum. The transcript is never been released of this phone call. Why not . But even this memorandum, when the president of ukraine brings up the issue of the investigations that you wanted us to undertake. The White House Legal Team is now an offense of the democratic impeachment managers concluded their case on friday night. Thats why it lead impeachment manager immediately showed up in the Senate Press Gallery after the president s lawyers concluded the remarks on the floor. At this point the president s team will have the last word. They can mischaracterize what we say or mischaracterize witness testimony, and in those questions, we hope to have the opportunity to respond and rebut. Now the trial takes back up on monday and tuesday, then we get into senators questions, maybe resolution of witness later in the week. The republicans tell me this is their word. Eric is the president s team begins make his detailed opening arguments us morning, lawyer for indicted lev parnas release that video more widely where he appears to be telling parnas and others at a dinner in 2018 he does want to get rid of then ambassador to ukraine and Marie Yovanovitch. Mark meredith that the white house live with more on that. As you mention this video coming from an attorney for lev parnas and in this cell phone we are getting a better idea of what may have been happening in 2018. I want to show you that cell phone video its about an hour long it appears to have been taken discreetly. Most the time the cameras pointed towards the ceiling. But listen as someone on the tape brings up yovanovitch that then ambassador to ukraine sanction may not be supportive of the president. I dont care, kick her out, okay . Do it. The lawyers say that has been turned over to the house Intelligence Committee and has released to the media. For months they have been investigating the presence behavior towards ukraine and some say a Smear Campaign by giuliani against a bottom edge. You heard for the lawyer he was given its importance to the national interest, we decided to release this recording in a manner intended to ensure equal public assets and an effort to provide clarity to the American People and the senate as the need to conduct a fair trial with witnesses and evidence. We asked the white house for any additional comments, we have not gotten a comment yet. On friday fox news had a chance to ask the president about the state. This is what he told the Laura Ingraham show. I want to have ambassadors, i have every right to have ambassadors who are chosen by me. I have a right to hire and fire ambassadors. The president has also been reacting to the news out of capitol hill that his men talk about impeachment. There been some complaints by the white house this was going to be on saturday which means fewer people may be watching television. However, we did see that the president reacted to the news on the hill today. The president put out a tweet what she said any fairminded person wash in the senate trial today would be able to see how unfairly i have been treated. And this is indeed the totally most partisan impeachment hoax that everybody include the democrats know it is. It should never be allowed to happen again. And then the president this afternoon on twitter. Sources on the president s legal team to know how long their opening arguments will last but they expected to be shorter than what they heard from the house earlier this week. The president is not expected to change his schedule. He is planning on messing with these israeli Prime Minister and Campaign Events intuitive and states. Eric theres rumblings the peace plan may be invalid in a week. Well we just saw those members of the president s legal team, theres one hes going to be on tomorrow. Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz is going to sit down tomorrow at airs at 2 00 p. M. Eastern tomorrow afternoon or you can check your local listing on your local fox station where you live to see Fox News Sunday. Arthel alive look at town hall were former south bend mayor Pete Buttigieg in fort dodge iowa. One of several 2020 candidates making their picture voters today with iowas first in the nation caucuses noun just over a week away. Jacqui is live in muscatine iowa were senator Elizabeth Warren is also holding a town hall. No rest for the weary, senators heading from washington to i would tonight. Senator Elizabeth Warren hosting a town hall in muscatine and senator Bernie Sanders is headed to ames later on. While sanders and warren were tied up in the senate chamber, theres a spotlight or region controversy between the two. It started with the hot mike moment on the democrat debate stage warren accused sanders of calling her a liar on National Television after sanders denied saying a woman could win the presidency. They key is a camp of leaking the private conversation. They flooded social media the snake and mode. They have refrained from publicly attacking each other. One supported the bernie rally last night said she is nervous about what kind of impact this divide could have later on in the election. I am disappointed, and both campaigns. I love learn to, i love bernie, im just sad they are not working together. They are kind of splitting the progressive vote. Despite not being tied up for impeachment Vice President joe biden has lost his lead in iowa. Near times pulse shows him in third place behind sanders and mayor Pete Buttigieg. That positive news for sanders that the campaign is surging despite his absence. Held a rally for sanders but an interesting move she didnt mention his name even once. Instead focusing on values and changing the system. Sanders asked for support himself in a phone call from washington. We are going to win in iowa, we are going to win the democratic nomination. Because we have the agenda that speaks to the needs of working families. Although sanders is leading that paul here in iowa, mayor Pete Buttigieg is in second place. We had a fundraising email saying sanders were to lose to President Trump and the general election things are definitely heating up here in iowa just nine days before the caucus. Eric we are now learning more about those three u. S. Firefighters who were killed and that firefighting plane crash while helping to attack the bushfires in australia. Officials today retrieve their bodies from what is still as an active fire zone. Laura ingle has more. All three men came from different areas of the United States to help australians and their massive firefight. All three were military veterans and two of them had years of experience with this particular type of aircraft. Captain mcbeth of montana was also father of three and had served in the wyoming and montana ash National Guard clyde of arizona spent 20 years in the marine corps where he was a c130 pilot. And father to Flight Engineer to morgan junior spent 18 years as a Flight Engineer on the c130. The three of died when their c130 water bottling plane crashes week after dumping a load of water with additives in turbulent conditions. Their bodies were removed from the crashing just today. Press investigators also found the allimportant black box the voice and data recorders. But they say they have not been able to explain why the four propeller plane crash in a ball of fire. Several members of firefighters heather start arriving in sydney. They will be offered the opportunity to visit the crash site. These fires which started over five months ago and scorched more than 27 million acres of land, there are still over 100 fires burning across the country. New blazes are being sparked almost daily by extremely hot and windy conditions. Some who say they have been deliberately lit. Hundreds of firefighting aircraft you being used to fight these fires with at least 3700 firefighters on the ground in any given time. Authorities say the crashes week is an important reminder of just how dangerous the job at hand is. I think theres upwards of 500 firefighting aircraft active across the country. For about a hundred and 60 Different Companies and obviously from several different countries. So if there are lessons to be learned from this particular accident, it is very important to not only in australia but around the world. To date 33 people in over 1 billion animals have been killed in these fires. We continue to monitor the situation. Eric this firefighters certainly heroes. Arthel the president s legal team laying out their case for swift end to the impeachment trial. But democrats are using their strategy underscores why witnesses need to be called. Whether the proceedings thus far could sway the minds of a few crucial senators. They do not contest the president solicited a foreign nation to interfere in our election, to help them cheat. I think they acknowledge, by not even contesting this, that the facts are overwhelming. President trump is under attack. Nancy plosive far left are trying to overturn his election, with the sham impeachment. Dealt let them, stand with President Trump. Donald j trump and i approve this message. The view of a new jet today. This triple seven axes maiden flight just successfully landed a few minutes ago. The plane took off from the manufacturing headquarters in washington and landed at boeing field. Test flight happen because it have been postponed since thursday with bad weather. The triple seven x is the new air craft since a troubled 737x which has been grounded worldwide for almost a year now following two deadly crashes that killed hundreds of people. The new triple seven is more fuelefficient and it has some pretty fancy wing tips that can fold up and fit into more of the countrys airports. Ask yourself, ask yourself given the facts you heard today, that they did not tell you who doesnt want to talk about the facts . Who doesnt want to talk about the facts . Arthel President Trumps defense team making their case for the senate shook with their client onto impeachment articles. The attorneys accuse them of cherry picking that july phone call with ukraines president. Lets bring in our legal panel now. She is a fox news legal analyst alex lytle is a partner and former prosecutor and assistant u. S. Attorney. Good to see both of you. Im going to start with you mercedes, lets get your overall assessment. Slow rollout or slamdunk . Definitely is slow rollout. As a defense attorney we are all waiting to see if they are going to be witnesses. Frankly when we have clients accused of wrongdoing one of our first arsenals, one of the persons we think about is what witnesses can we have and go forward. But there is no mention of witnesses coming forward. Bending of the documentary evidence. So frankly, just talking about today and looking at what they said today, we are sort of anticipating what defense is there going to be and if you dont have the witnesses and you dont have the evidence, or you have protection regarding this witness testimony. You dont want to set forth this testimony because maybe it will trigger some National Security issues. Those have to be all considerations in the next. But the end of the day most people looking at this are going to say for it to themselves, where is the evidence, where is the defense . Is going to bounce between the two. Arthel alex how you see it . What the president s legal team has to do is walk the fine line. They dont have a very good information on the facts. They have to appear to at least be making a factual argument, that he didnt do it without inviting the senate to really ask for more information. So i dont envy the position they are in. This is nothing like a criminal trial. They would fail miserably if they was put in front of regular jurors in a regular court from. One thing that topples a friendly audience. The majority of the people sitting in front of them are the same party as the president , they are republicans. Those are republicans dont want to convict the president they dont want to remove him from office and theyre probably going to take this half mealy mouth defense. Arthel taking all this into consideration where will that take the argument from here . The argument is not really for any factual or legal questions. They have two main pieces to it. One, if he didnt do what that house managers accused him of doing and if he did so much what. On the first part they are going to say you dont have the evidence, you dont have the facts. The problem there is lb emotion up with those before the senate they will fight against that. So if those facts to commend the command and say it doesnt really matter hes the president he could do those things, helping the senators wont feel compelled to impeach on either ground. Arthel mercedes the house case put forth can it hold up against the Defense Team Argument . This is a political process is exactly what alex said. If we were trying to defend this in criminal courts, the expectation would be we would set forth counter arguments, counter facts in terms of defeating those facts. You could look at this and say was theyre intense . Wheres the intent to gain some political advantage by saying to the president of ukraine in that phone call i am going to hold back 391 million in aid unless you do the investigation. And underlined that ask was the intent to gain some political advantage . We dont know. When you dont have the test may the present to consider. So just on the basis of what the democrats have set forth thus far, we really have to do waitandsee and see what the republicans will do. And to counter those arguments, but a failsafe defense of Something Like this is wheres the intent. If you are looking you can have two intentions of that phone call. You can look to see if we as a country investing nearly 400 million in military aid to a corrupt country . Or the counter argument would be unlawful. I am thinking to get a political advantage by getting information regarding the political rival reform country. Arthel alex and i get to them want to play summer sound from Pat Cipollone on that call. He says there is an invite to the white house. Lets listen. Going back to the transcript of the 25th call, again part of the call that they did not talk to about, President Trump said, whenever you would like to come to the white house, feel free to call. Give us a date and we will work that out. I look forward to seeing you. Arthel alex getting you back in and picking up where mercedes left off. She talked about intense. Whats your take on intense . Pat cipollone is lying. Hes relying on misconstruing the factual record. What we know from all the witnesses that testified before the houses there is a clear effort, across the executive branch to freeze out this money enter pressure ukrainians, not for an investigation but to an announcement of an investigation that was led by the president s own personal attorney. Theres no real question about that. Republicans dont like this fact sets where they dealt with the testimony of john bolton who called this a drug deal. The National Security adviser to the president of the United States called this a drug deal. And there republicans and the president dont you to hear that if youre sitting senator. The facts arent really in question. Arthel okay im out of time, i serve you mercedes i will let alex have his last part of it. Eric from a court to the gridiron. Hes trying to shakeup the russian government. He formed a brandnew cabinet this week after sweeping changes to the russian constitution were undertaken. Criticism its all him to assure his place in power. Far beyond his term limit that is in 2024, perhaps keeping him as president for life. Those changes include promoting his Economic Advisor to first deputy Prime Minister, hiring a new minister of economics, health and culture. In appointing a new president of the University Sports federation. Putting the pollutant thumbprint all over the country. Former director of communications in spokesperson at the united nations. Jonathan love was in russia in the 80s and 90s ankle covered the collapse of the soviet union as a journalist. Week he covered the united nations, what is vladimir up to . Volodymyr is up to securing things so that everything is a okay moving through his life. He is the longestserving leader of russia. He beats out stalin and others. By about 20 years, remarkable. He has out president u. S. President s, clearly russia is not an active democracy and Vladimir Putin once to ensure that he remains at the reign of things. He idealizes the leader, peter the great, who he seizes someone he wants to emulate in terms of greatness and russian pride. He is quite popular in many circles because of his strong hands man teste pushing russia onto the world. What russia consumes is very different from what we see is happening in the world. So he looks like a hero among many, but there is a strong opposition in russia that is sick and tired of him. Eric but that opposition they have been arresting some of these people going to their offices. How viable can in opposition to Vladimir Putin be inside that country . 20 years speaks a lot doesnt it . When does that happen . Especially when you have a system in which the constitution there are term limits. The president is supposed to serve two terms. Vladimir putin, organized it in such a way that his body dimitri beto who was the Prime Minister until the shuffle of cabinet, took over leadership, took over the presidency mid twoyear term and now hes going to wrap up his second twoyear term as president in the country. Those things just dont happen by accident. Eric mr. Putins art in its fourth year as president. The constitution says two terms as president. Its like one of those Russian Dolls he just swaps innout, squeaks right in their little pop out and then do it again . Thats right, there is that potential. The interesting thing is some of the replacement of the Prime Minister is the former tax chief. The guy who dealt with federal taxes. And a place like russia, the guy who deals with taxes has all the dirt on everybody. Eric where the money goes, the opposition,. You can dig up all kinds of stuff against your enemies and you can slander them or worse get them imprisoned. So its quite an interesting move, it looks very much like giving insurance that he is going to be okay. The other thing about Vladimir Putin, dont forget, the guy has, on paper has three russian cars and some sort of thing that is similar to a van. The guy is worth billions of dollars. How did he get the money . So any opposition them i go into takeover the government would of course try to dig all this up. Sustaining power. Eric a minute left, what is this mean for prudence relationship with President Trump and the american russian relations . It certainly ensures that putin will have major influence on russian policy even past 2024. Dont forget, our president even if he gets reelected will finish up his term in 2024. Hooton has the opportunity to manipulate things that either he has the constitution changed so he can serve even longer as president , or he can backup a bit, but control things like the puppetmaster to ensure that the country is really run by him, just like he did when mid van observe for that little break. Eric it looks like he is a master at all this. You will explain it all, good to see you, thank you. Arthel a decade old water dispute is headed to the supreme court. Florida claims is not getting a fair share of the basin. But officials in georgia file cap may harm their agricultural industry. Millions of people depend on the apple lactic basin for their livelihood. A collection of three rivers that flow through georgia, alabama, and into florida. We are all in this basket together. But florida officials said they are not getting their fair share of water and want to put a cap on georges usage. It would be decimating if we were cut off. This is the state department is reported to evacuate all american citizens who are in wuhan china, thats for the outbreak began late last month. Chinese Officials Say the virus has so far killed at least 41 people. The city of rouhani, home to some 11 Million People is the epicenter of this outbreak. It is also where the vast majority of infections and for tallies have occurred over the last 24 hours we have seen chinese authorities move hundreds of doctors into the city of wuhan and start build two makeshift hospitals the first one they hope to be ready at week from. That should add about 2000 beds that exist already in hospitals there. Some people were turned away from hospitals yesterday because they just dont have the capacity. The state department meanwhile has 100 americans thought to be in the city to leave and is closing the consulate there. The government is organizing a charter flight to take the Embassy Workers and other americans home. That is expected to leave as early as this week. The Chinese Lunar new year, the year of the rat begins today and this is the time of year when many of the countrys 1. 4 billion people are normally on the move. Earlier today chinas leader president she called accelerating spread of the virus a grave situation. Also clearly an international situation. The virus is spread to europe in more cases were announced of france. All infected individuals came from wuhan. Theres potentially good news that chances of an epidemic in europe are extremely weak. He also said the virus does not appear to be as strong as sars, which killed close to 800 people in the early 2000s. Air, one thing to keep in mind, the rapid increase in death toll in a number of infections does not necessarily mean that this crisis is getting worse. It could be that monitoring and reporting are simply improving. Arthel eric it is an excess drip busy weekend for senators running for president. Elizabeth warren is set to talk to voters in iowa at this hour. She looks to gain ground on Bernie Sanders but as more candidates take aim at the vermont senator, could the impeachment trial stop momentum . Thats up next. Whether its a new york city or whether its in iowa, the active creating community is so powerful, because that at its core is what this campaign is all about. Arthel that is congresswoman alexandria cortez talking about Bernie Sanders in iowa. Town halls are underway in other parts of the Hawkeye State for other president ial candidates. And as the states february 3 caucuses draw closer, a poll shows sanders jumping to a sevenpoint lead in iowa Vice President joe biden falls to third place. Lets bring in melanie she is a congressional reporter for politico. So melanie whats driving the sanders surge . I think theres a couple things behind this big hefty lead piercing behind sanders. I think number one he has been able to consolidate support from the progressive wing of the party. He has really benefited from Elizabeth Warren going on the decline. Hes been able to pick up some of her supporters. Number two, he has had a massive fundraising call in the last fourth quarter. Which has really allowed him to build a very strong ground game in iowa, which is very important in this early primary state. And i think just in general, number three, he has some of the most loyal supporters in this race. I think is been consistently underrated and underestimated. But this poll shows he has a legitimate and hefty lead in the race. Arthel so is this trend sustainable are there political spikes senators sanders path . We have seen some spikes throughout the campaign and we are all waiting for the results of the iowa primary to see just how solid his lead is. But you know its looking optimistic for him, and there is reason for his campaign to be optimistic about his chances. He has a record of turning out voters in iowa. In 2016 he came very close to beating hillary clinton. He could also do wellin New Hampshire. So if he can pull off two wins in the first to early primary states, that could shake up the entire primary to create a sense of momentum. He could be declarative very decisive early front runner. Arthel any chance Vice President biden would take the leader do you see amy klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren, rp buttigieg . We are looking at klobuchar to pull off an upset in iowa. She is in building a ground game there and has made yourself look like an alternative to a joe biden or Pete Buttigieg. When it comes to joe biden, i think we are really looking at how he does in South Carolina. His campaign is said we are probably not going to win the first two states, but we are banking on a firewall of support in the south. They have support of black voters. Joe biden has really been leading consistently with black voters especially in South Carolina where the primary elected is black voters. If he can pull off a win in South Carolina he can say in this thing for a while. Arthel but what does february 3 content for november 3 . Thats a good one and all the speculation all the is are on i would see how this can shake up the race. Create the scent of momentum. Its important theres a reason that has so much attention from the candidates in pdf him this first early voting states. It can affect how other voters impact view joe biden and other candidates if they think they are the most electable candidate, it could change their mind and how they vote in their own state. Arthel melanie thank you so much for stopping by on this saturday we will see you again. Eric ports from boston that multiple people have been stabbed there.
