John President Trump expected to issue between 50 to 100 pardons and commutations before he leaves office. Lets bring in Jonathan Turley, constitutional professor of law. A lot of people are saying oh, my goodness, 100 pardons, more commutations. I remember in 2001, i was at the white house when president clinton issued 140 pardons and even more commutations. First of all, congratulations on your show. Many people thought you were too young and green for this but i said i worked with you at that other network and youre ready for this. The kid is ready. John ill try. That history is of course very telling. Bill clinton really had demeaned this authority by giving a pardon to his halfbrother and to a democratic donor as well as someone accused in the whitewater scandal so he was not alone in that. President s have had many of the pardon controversies. Ive been very critical of President Trumps pardons for the same reason. What everyone is going to be looking for is is there going to be his name on one of these pardons. Is he going to give a self pardon. And that creates a really interesting dimension for him than many of us obviously would say that is an abuse of power even though i think the constitution doesnt prevent it, i would still view it as an abuse but i think most americans would but if he doesnt pardon himself, the puts pressure on people who said that his speech was factual criminal incitement. I find that dubious. I think a prosecution case would collapse on court and freespeech grounds but this will put the pressure on them if he doesnt self pardon. Are you going to go ahead and charge him . If he prevailed in court, he would present that as a vindication. John our understanding is that the president will not seek to pardon himself nor will he issue what are called protective pardons for members of his family. We do know that a rapper who supported President Trump, another rapper who supported him, kodak black may both be pardoned for gun crimes. But whats interesting to me is while both president clinton and President Trump likely are going to issue a lot of pardons, the process between what clinton went through in terms of doj and the process going on down there at 1600 pennsylvania avenue was quite different. It is. And like everything else, it is all shaped by trump. His personality, his values. He has pardoned a number of people who were found guilty or accused of political corruption. He has pardoned celebrities, and this will create a glaring contradiction if he gives lil wayne a pardon but not julian and i should say i worked for his legal team. But the fact that these celebrities are at the top of this list once again raises the question of what are the priorities here for president ial action . They couldnt let them play outside with the neighbors, so they kept them inside. This is at alternative. For older kids, screen time is a life line for socialization. So what does this mean . A year ago, we saw screen time was up 50 for all age groups. With that, the concerns of lack of physical interaction and as we know, as we increase our screen time use, you can have increased depression and suicidal thoughts and decreased physical activity, which can lead to obesity and other health benefits. Now theyre looking at children. They have over 50 of screen time. Thats not just because theres Distance Learning and theyre having to do school on screens and homework on screens, but because theyre on screens more because theres not as much to do. Im going to take my doctor hat off and put my mom hat on. I have three boys. Im in all phases of life for these children. All of my kids have more screen time right now. Im a culprit of it as well. For my older children, i can tell you the screen time is a lifeline. Theyre socializing with their friends. Theyre able to have conversations, they get their games and still having the social interaction, which is vital for their development as children. My younger children and this is what were seeing, the ages 39, theyre about 75 up in their screen times. The screen time is not the same as it is with the older kids. They dont have the same social interaction. Theyre just watching some of the more mundane videos. Maybe theyre playing video games but not the same social interaction. This can be detrimental to their social development. As a mom and doctor, its crucial that we talk to our chin, still make them laugh and doing Everything Possible to keep them physically active. While were using the screens for educational purposes, so many families across the country logging on every day to home school or whatever it may be is still a social outlet and its still a fun outlet for some of the younger kids out there.
