president obama has emerged from airforce one, heading to college station, texas. neil is next. [captioning made possible by fox news channel] captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- neil: welcome. we're getting wind of something a very big and building fast. those tea party years are throwing republicans overboard, because the grand old party is in a grand old 6 with a group that was their base. it is apparently baseless. t partyers are going to tell, even if it means electing eight democrat -- a democratic candidate. when i was with republicans getting booed, the officials were getting booed at that rally. but this is bigger than party to you, isn't it? >> it is. this is happening in cities all across the country, and i cannot think of a better representation as to what is going on and why tea partiers are so upset of and what is happening in new york's 23rd congressional district. they came out today to support the republican nominee, endorsed by the working families party, pro-abortion, pro-stimulus. she is not even a rhino. she is a democrat. she is even endorsed by daily kos/ neil: you are going to call out the democrats for being of course. i had a chance to catch up with the republican chairman and i got wind of it then. people did not believe it. listen. >> issue start with movements, then they go to parties, then they go to governments. neil: i wonder if this is even the republican party or a start of a different one. they do not like your party lately. they have been ticked off. >> i will tell you, we have had republicans in this legislature or more while only vote against raising taxes -- overwhelmingly vote against raising taxes time and time again. neil: that was the california republican party chairman, who was getting food. the people i was talking to, they're angry at everybody. not everybody believed me. i saw groups like your own and expand on this point today. to what end? where is this going? >> if the gop continue to push this through the democratic life and no distinction between the parties, i see it as the end of the republican party. i really do. i see it just being checks and balances for party is already out there, but we have conservative candidates brushed aside by these old guard people who are in the gop that are not fiscally responsible and do not have a track record of limited government. so of course the people will revolt. doug hoffman has been forsaken by the gnp -- gop. tea party people are rallying around him. it has become frustrating, and i'm amused as to why they would even ask what the problem is. they want to go more to the left instead of back to conservative policy. neil: so you would sacrifice a republican win if they were not going with core principles like conservative fiscal politics? >>'s. there is a strategy called the lesser of two eagles, but if we get more and more cases like the 23rd district, that is not the lesser of two evil, that is just two evils. that is the only way i can put it eloquently. if we see more instances like that, yes, i do not see me in voting for a republican no different from a democrat or someone from working families. i cannot envision a vote for a candidate like that, and i do not think anyone else can, either. we need true conservative candidates on a true conservative platform. limited government, keeping the government out of people's lives. fiscal responsibility. neil: thank you very much. very good having you. i saw this myself seven months ago in california. mushrooming and expanding rapidly across the country, newly energized tea party voters are having a big impact. some of them are very close to call. you to bring it down is a professor at the university of virginia center for politics. what do you think about what is going on here? >> you put it well. under the first amendment, it is everybody's right to do whatever they want. there is nothing about the constitution about political parties, much less a two-party system. in the practical sense, it means republicans have a split base in some places, in this 23rd district special election coming up in new york, a republican seat, and keep in mind the big picture. neil: this is interesting. the conservative candidates poll very well, but the argument could be that the two of them are dividing the vote. what do you make of that? >> that is exactly right. many people in the tea party and elsewhere considered her too liberal, and she is a liberal republican on social issues. she is more conservative on fiscal issues. doug hoffman is comprehensively conservative. but again, the big picture. as of 1995, republicans have 14 members of the house delegation from new york and one united states senator. today, they have zero united states senators and three members of the u.s. house. if they lose this republican seat in the special action, they will have two members of the house of representatives out of 29 representatives in new york. again, maybe it is their fault. but you cannot put a majority together the house of representative unless republicans start doing better in places like new york. neil: this is popping up across the country, and i wonder if it is the start of saying to both parties, "we hate you." >> is a bipartisan hatred, and a question about it. but this is happening in california and in florida where an incumbent congressman is being challenged in the primary by 80 party member. again, first amendment rights, people do with it what. but there are practical political effects from these challenges. neil: ronald reagan, as conservative as he was in 1976, and there were definitely people who did not aggressively support ford, he was a good party soldier in the end. many argue whether he was aggressively campaigning for ford, but that was then and this is now. while reagan did not tell conservatives to vote for the party than. -- ronald reagan did not tell conservatives to vote for the party then. what is the story now? >> it is 17% for the democrats and 17% for republicans. these are people who feel strongly about their party and will stick with the party label even if they disagree on key issues or the candidate loses. neil: very good. larry, always a good seeing you, my friend. have a good weekend. did you catch this? >> we're talking about two trillion dollars. you can do the math. we can all do the math. neil: talk about balloons, or should i say gas -- i am not going to go there. did the senate majority leader let it slip that the true cost of reform is now two trillion dollars, not the one trillion dollars democrats have been promising? my guest is here with me now, mike huckabee, former presidential candidate and host of "huckabee." we should stress that we're not for that. but what do you make of this? they let a key figure slip op. >> they are going to collect taxes for three years before they put in the benefits, and benefits start ramping up in the outlying years. the real cost of what they propose is in years 11 through 19. it is not in the first 10 years anyway. government always liked to talk in terms of years so they can make it sound like it is not a big deal. it will be a big deal, and i do not think any of the figures even get close to reality. neil: and he said the history of government exacting savings in any field is ridiculous. real doubt now among the leadership. >> the idiocy of this is that if you say we will save 500 billion on medicare, you are? why don't you do it and show us that you can, because none of you believe you will do it. if you can find $500 billion to save in medicare, nothing is stopping you. you do not even need legislation. the reality is that if you cut that much of medicare there will be a lot of elderly people in this country who will not get anything near what they were getting in benefits from their own health care. neil: you are running away with this, doing pretty good. and you are not doing anything. i do not want to make a big deal about this. >> i am trying to -- [inaudible] neil: you more than one me over with this comment from a "red eye." >> who would it be? >> neil cavuto. he did not believe in the tarp plan. neil: all right, so the governor is backyard good graces. -- back in our good graces. we kid about the poll numbers and all, but there is something going on now, whether it is interesting you or your message. these people are angry and indiscriminately so. i saw myself. what do you think of that. >> their principal, not party focused. and the lady earlier in the program was articulate and rational. this is not a crazy person. this is a thoughtful, rational person. the reason republicans are in trouble because of idiot things like tarp and that some of them supported the bill in january or thought cash for clunkers was a great idea. they are not as institutional republicans, and by that i mean people republicans by organization. they show up for the meetings and are part of the club. a good democrat can be pressure to vote right. that is the idea. but the real solution is to get republicans. these people will run for office and they will say they ran for the reason that founding fathers ran, to be a servant. neil: this week on "huckabee," will the climate bill killed jobs -- kill jobs? why this senior will not be bought. neil: president obama announcing a $13 billion handout for seniors as social security payments will not be given eighth living increase. my next guest is saying no thanks. richard hansen joins us right now. what do you think of this? >> they are completely confused about, for example, about medicare and medicaid. they do not know if that will disappear, what is going to happen. if a person cannot afford insurance, how will they pay a fine? and i think that it does come across with this plan. neil: we should do at this forum and you were quite upset. there is a cynical view that maybe this $250 social security idea was about more than just modifying those who what -- want to comb their rage. what do you think? >> it might satisfy people and get their mind of this bill. i think for the purse, there would be no social security waiting for two years. now comes out that there is a $250 fee, so he figures it would satisfy quite a few people. well i figured out an equation about social security, 5%, and what that would be is much much greater than the $250. neil: the $250 is not an issue for you. what do you think of it? >> i find it offensive. it is his way to try and appease senior citizens and get their minds off of it because they figured they will get $250, isn't that great? in reality, it is a far cry from what to do with the cola increase, which we have been getting four years. neil: thank you. medicare it for millions of more people? not just seniors? a top democrat is coming up with that idea. he is here. then, his company insures one in three americans. he says that these health care bills will wallop everyone of them úçzñxñññ najibullah health care neil: health care is a mess. i do not think any mjátk in the world will buy people out of it. people go in to medicare who cannot afford insurance, there is one big problem with this idea, and you put your finger on it. in preparation for this show, i looked at the latest report about how big the unfunded liabilities of medicare are already, and do you know what the number is? 74 trillion dollars in unfunded liability of medicare. that is over the next 100 years. but the point is, why do we want to increase liability for a program or if cannot pay its bills? that is the problem with the whole debate. we ought to be in a rational world, talking about ways to trim these costs, not adding a new trillion dollar entitlement. neil: at least to this congressman looks at this and says the idea stinks. i know he wasn't sayr'g that, but he was saying go with something familiar. if medicare is so great, and speaks -- speech after speech to have someone saying that medicare will go broke i' 10 years, why do you mention it is a great example? >> we know this train wreck is coming. we can see the trustees of the agency telling us that within eight years, 10 years, this system will not be able to pay bills. you ask the right question. why isn't everybody addressing the huge unfunded liability in the system? rather than creating a whole new massive health care system, which is what the obama care would do, why not just take the uninsured, give them $5,000 in nd let them buy them $5,000 in health care. neil: do you not find it odd that on the day we're talking about this, "where the wild things are," the movie, has been released. i'm thinking about the monster.+ the thing on the left is congress and health care, and we're a little kid attached to it. the government means well, but it is a monster. even the little kid eventually realizes it. it is profound. it is profound. >> my idea is to put members of congress and one of these flying saucers. that would be a cheap thing. neil: they are relentless. i saw it earlier this year, the tea parties, the official meetings, and i think there is something growing in this country. >> we have 750,000 people up. they were republicans, democraás, independents, old people, you'g people, angry not õabout health care and the bailout but the stimulus plans, and you are exactly right. this crazy story that this is somehow bad for the party that people are rising up in anger, i do not see it. the fact you have so many people who are active is one of the great new developments in america. god bless these people. neil: thank you very much. all right. he heads 100 million americans. today, they will get hammered with increases, and he has the figures to prove it. scott is here. good to have it. you know that healtñ insurers got attacked coming out wit$ this free vote speech study that said premiums would go up, and3 what do you make of that? >> we came out with the study, people about the real impact of adding (eople to this system and putting it out of balance. we support and have supported for a long time getting everybody covered, not differentiating based on pre- existing conditions or gender. but we're concerned that if we everybody into the risk pool, it would get out of ballots and those in its would pay an extraordinarily high price for their coveñage. we want to make sure we can avoid that. neil: you are very big on forcing, rather than easing up requirements if you're going to go this route. they will be less inclined, and it will be a mess. but they are listening those rules now, and olympia snowe, the lone republican senator who pushed for this, might push some more in that direction. >> that has us concern. young, healthy people are the most price-sensitive shoppers, and we need to get them into the pool to maintain balance. if we do not do that, the first people to jump in will be the sickest people. and that is an affordability issue for every american. for reform to be affordable, it has to be not only affordable at the national level with regard to the budget, but for every consumer. neil: thank you very much. the pornographer can speak up, but the minutemen in shut out. and air fare is taking out. @ w wúwúw neil: my next guest is jim gilchrist, an outspoken critic of illegal immigrants. what did you do to get disinvited from speaking at harvard? >> i wasñat the guest for five months, and at the last minute, at harvard would create a riotous atmosphere and therefore my presence should be cancelled. it is not the first time and probably will not be the last time of our major universities in the country will suppress free speech, rather than encourage it. neil: you were there in february. were their rights or problems? >> i have voiced in support of of harvard. it is a beacon of free speq(r liberty, and justice for all. i like to establish a copy of before i go further. this had nothing to do with the faculty or demonstration of harvard. it was sourced in handful of anti-free speech student scholars. it is certainly an indictment of our future lawyers. neil: today know that you are a purple heart recipient and a war hero? do they know the injuries and near death experiences you have had defending deliveries of this country? you are not some crazy -- you are a genuine hero. >> i asked my sponsor if any critics read the ash said -- as a last year published by georgetown university law school laying out very clearly and emphatically my position on immigration, and there is nothing in their that is a hostile, bigoted. it is my function in an essay presenting a resolution to our payoffs. neil: even if it were, if they want to have larry flint or anyone else, go for it. "tbut then you cannot pick and choose your controversial speakers. so if they are allowing them, have at it. but they should be fair and bounce on the rostrum -- fair and balanced on the rostrum. i do not think you can select this stuff. >> the term you just used on a selective -- what this means is if a freshman can deprive me of free speech, he can deprive everyone else, and that is a significant danger and a threat to our tranquillity, rocking the foundation of our country.+ neil: they do not see it that way. the university did get back with this response. unfortunately, mr. gilchrist's participation in the conference was not compatible with providing an environment for civil education and discourse on immigration, and we cannot have at this time. they say that you're running up illegal immigrants was tantamount to physical abuse and you are advocating violence. that is a gross exaggeration, but that was the kids position. what > the kit is stupid, and if it is anybody who should be banned, it should be a kid who is stupid and ir)esponsible. neil: what but in are you wearing -- what but and are you wearing$(lc@&c+ >> this is a sheriff who was murdered by an illegal alien drug dealer who after five years of pressing the mexican government was apprehended in mexico and extradited and is ì(lc@&c+ life without parole, one of many members of law enforcement. we had another patrol agent, robert rosas, murdered on july 23 about 50 miles from where i live, 150 feet in u.s. territory by four legal alien assassins from mexico cooking up over the border to kill a member o# u.s. law enforcement. neil: whether they like you are not, they should hear you out. if you are going to have these dictators and stuff, you know, let jimmy speak. this is why i turned down a harvard acceptance letter which i never got. that is a whole other issue. thank you. happy holidays. airlines are hiking fares. wait until you sure what you are paying for. to other people, then don't bother watching this commercial. i've taken precautions all my life to protect my identity. i've been in law enforcement all my life... and my identity was stolen. did you know that identity theft has topped... the federal trade commission's list of consumer complaints... for the last eight years? >> i have spoken to mechanics, p'd they say there is a policy called #light to failure, just like you drive your car with the oil leaking. neil: that could just be my own ignorance. why would they do that, an accident that wou&d not only kill people but kill their company? >> what they are doing are those things that will enable them to fly 200 flights. it is not something that will bring ñhe plane down. it will just go on for a while and get so bad they have to fix it. and that is what they do. or they outsource to work. we send a major overhaul to hong kong or singapore, to el salvador. to korea and dubai. neil: because it is c$eaper? >> because it is cheaper. neil: are there any safer airlines than others? >> american airlines does not outsource. is the only one i know that has a policy not to outsource work. they do it here because the mechanics here are certified by the faa. if you do it outside, they are not certified. neil: all planes have to meet standards, don't they? >> sometimes we do not know if they are meeting them or not, and if we have 30 or 60 days between inspections, we know it will go that way for an american made and maintained airplane, we're ok with that. but we're not so sure when they p @ southwest airlines got the biggest find ever given by the faa because they went on and on and on. what most people are not aware of $is wife a crack in an airplane is so important. in 1988, we had a low airplane taking off from hawaii that reached cruising altitude and the top flew off the plane. it started with a crack in the skin of the airplane. stuff of last week correct it. if the faa allows that to go on. neil: thank you so much. industry responses have always attention to safety. forget about reaching across the forget ao make deals withoss the democrats. is the winning formula for republicans to not even talk to us? is it time for johnny to be more like ronnie? . @ . . not long ago, this man had limited mobility. last month, this woman wasn't even able to get around inside of her own home. they chose mobility. and they chose the scooter store! if you or a loved one live with limited mobility call the scooter store! no other company will work harder to make you mobile or do more to guarantee your complete satisfaction. if we pre-qualify you for a new power chair or scooter and your claim isn't approved, the scooter store will give you your power chair or scooter free. that's our guarantee. they were so helpful and nice. they filed all the paperwork, and medicare and my insurance covered the cost. we can work directly with medicare or with your insurance company. we can even help with financing. if there's a way, we'll find it! so don't wait any longer, call the scooter store today. neil: ok. well, the stingiest candidate wins in the senate race, and is that because voters believe he will be the cheapest when doling out cash? he is the son of former presidential candidate ron paul. good to have you with us. >> thank you, neil. neil: are you more to the right or uber conservative or depragmatic? where do you stand? >> it is not always a traditional right-left paradigm that we have always talked about. it is maybe more complicated than that. i tend to see it as reform versus the status quo. i'm one of those who think that washington has to be reformed. a 1,100-page bill they passed and no one reads, and they tell us they want a waiting period for buying a gun. i think your legislators need a waiting period before they pass a bill. there should be one day of waiting for every page of a bill. that would slow them down quite a bill. neil: they just lump it together with a short bill that spends a lot of money and cliff notes but that's another issue. i think something big is going on here that could actually hurt republicans in the aggregate. what do you make of that? you divide it among the republican candidates, the conservative alternate, and the democrat walks in and that's bad for republicans. >> i don't consider myself to be on an extreme right wing. i'm very frugal. i'm very conservative. i don't believe in earmarks. i don't believe in bills i don't read and i also tell people i won't vote for any bill that's not balanced, republican or democrat, so i don't see myself as a partisan. i think sometimes what the american public doesn't like, and let's say you're an independent or moderate, you just don't like people who say i'm going to always vote republican because republicans are recalls right and democrats are always evil and wrong. i don't see it as party versus party. i think the overriding concern for our country is that there is no money left. we have to quit spending money we don't have. neil: i don't know if we could retrain ourselves. thank you very much. good seeing you again. >> thank you. neil: when hitting a big number out of a certain stockpile and a buddy of mine hitting 50. so, what's the problem? these are hot. we're shipping 'em everywhere. but we can't predict our shipping costs. dallas. detroit. different rates. well with us, it's the same flat rate. same flat rate. boston. boise? same flat rate. alabama. alaska? with priority mail flat rate boxes from the postal service. if it fits, it ships anywhere in the country for a low flat rate. dude's good. dude's real good. dudes. priority mail flat rate boxes only from the postal service. a simpler way to ship. neil: finally tonight, it is part of my routine every single day checking in on a dozen or so sources on what's new, what's the buzz. after all these years, some have become not only good contacts but good friends. this week, one of them passing along what i thought was good news, a guy i talk to for many years he hit a big year, a 0, this day. i wished him a happy birthday but he distance seem that happy. neil, he said my dad never made it past 49. my mom died at 48. then without missing a beat, he added i guess i'm on borrowed time. there was little i could do to console the guy. when i inclined to ask about other members of the family, it wasn't helping. aunts and uncles gone, his family genes bad and on this day he is cool, not crazy, just grateful for his wonderful wife and four great kids, grateful for a good life but now he fears the good life must be coming to a close even though he is very healthy, very fit, and as i try to remind him, not nearly as decrep decrepit looking as his 50 years would suggest. i really can't see him, but i do hear him and he is clearly in another place. a man fixated on a calendar he has pushed further than his parents and all but prepared to join his parents. i tried to tell him life is fickle and those trite things, we just don't know and enjoy the ride and then i tried to ask him about the markets. he laughed and the call ends. we have taken stock in the market and stock in something else, life, only he's too busy looking at future returns he can never know and not real present day results he cannot miss that were right. none of us can. all right. we're getting word that g.m. is having troubles finding a c.f.o. because of the pay
