being childless and sharing her husband with her sister was torture. rachel, having to struggle through watching her sister have children, i think is very illustrative because we see rivalry, we see jealousy, we see double crossing. though rachel could not conceive, she wasn't the only one who struggled. we see that the two women vie for jacob's attentions and affection. leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son and she says, surely my husband will love me now. they conceived again and said, because the lord heard that i am not loved. he gave me this one too. she thought, all i need to do is have a baby. rachel watched as her sister had children, and even though rachel had jacob's love for her, it was not enough. rachel goes to jacob and says, jacob, give me children or i'll die. children identified women as being valuable. i think that it's tough to have an infertility struggle anyway,
