there's debris coming towards our window. and he said, "i don't want anyone to get hit by anything. you gotta come back." so we came back and i was crying. and then people started calling in to ask if we were okay. - [narrator] this is the first time joann and kathleen have heard their father's voice from the morning of september 11th. - [jerry] what happened? - [unidentified man] yeah, a plane crashed into a building. - [jerry] holy (beep). it's right here, i'm looking at it. everybody's running here. - [unidentified man] yeah it's right outside. - [jerry] holy (beep). let me call you right back, yeah. - [narrator] when the towers were hit, jerry immediately picks up the phone and tries to reach his daughters. (phone ringing) - [jerry] yeah, joanne scully, please. - oh! - [unidentified woman] let me see if she's in. hold on, please. - [jerry] okay. - [operator] i don't believe she's in yet. - [jerry] okay. this is important, okay? this is her dad. - [unidentified woman] okay, dad. - now, i work downtown on wall street. - [unidentified woman] uh-huh. - [jerry] okay. i'm all right. everything- a plane just hit the world trade center. - [unidentified woman] oh my god. - [jerry] all right? so she might be nervous because i work right across the street.
