>> well, i think the obama campaign is in a pickle here. it's clear that this is the central part of their argument against romney. central part of the indictment. no question. the questions comments today at the nato summit suggests how central it will be to the narrative. what is happening in the campaign generally they are trying to define romney. this is a point in the campaign before convention and before people are really paying attention where they are trying to create a narrative about mitt romney. they want to pick up on the arguments made against romney in the republican primary. and build on those. trying to paint him as vulture capitalist. the reason the corey booker comment and harold ford and stephen ratner comments are problematic for the administration and campaign is they gut the central premise of the argument. they tear it out and say no, in fact, this is a totally legitimate way to make a living. the most interesting part, president obama said private equity is fine. private equity is fine. but it's the way they have gone about the specific things, so you have seen narrowing of the argument. tougher indictment of romney. >> bret: if you talk privately with anybody in the broad business, many of whom were obama supporters four years ago there is a sense they are the black hats and that they are tired of that and some shifted dramatically to support romney. >> sure. that is wall street's story. it's intriguing dynamic, because wall street is just so angry at the administration. they don't like dodd frank and the new regulation. they feel they have been postures in the black hat as you describe it. somehow they forget people didn't like bail-out or tarp and the wall street in the talk of too big to fail is offensive, especially to main street so. that also talking about the private equity firms that invest in businesses around the country who aren't necessarily on wall street in some big bank. put their money on the line to make it work. >> they're not blame -- look, the fact is if you go back to the republican primary, what rick perry said about vulture capitalism stands. it comes from a fellow republican. republicans attacked romney in just this way. corey booker was wrong here. i appreciate his honesty. if that is how he feels that is how he feeled. he said he was nauseated. that is a strong feeling. but the primary reason for romney candidacy, he says he knows how to make the economy run. he says he can make the economy much more smooth. he will come back more quickly if we have romney in the white house prowho appreciates and understands business in america. you to have a conversation about that if you are running against romney. i imagine romney wants to have a conversation about president obama con mucket the administration. that's on the table, too. it don't an objection. i don't understand why -- the only way i can understand it is that corey booker said he didn't like the reverend wright attacks. from the romney people. they might launch that. and he doesn't like small ball from the obama people. the personal attack against romney. >> bret: this is the broad issue we'll see. is this fair game argument that the obama campaign, the president had been talking about that everyone needs to pay their fair share. created a business environment to succeed in america. >> oh, yeah. they are opposing world views. that will be the republican versus the democrat. and the democrat versus republican argument. the specific of the record at bane is fair game. he narrowed the argument for private equi it fine, but as president i have to look at the entire economy, i need to look at everybody, make sure we are growing in ten years as much as in ten weeks. he will make the argument romney just because he was a businessman doesn't understand what taking care of the whole country means and what looking at the entire economy means. so that is why he brings up bain as an example, that it's a narrow slice of experience that isn't necessarily helpful to prepare you for the presidency. >> bret: next up, catholic institutions file lawsuited against the obama administration. >> under this unprecedented definition of what is and is not religious ministry, even the work of mother teresa carrying for the poorest and most needy people would not qualify as religious enough. >> bret: well, 43 catholic institutions are challenging the administration's healthcare law. the president's healthcare law. we called the h.s.s., health and human services and the response is "we decline to comment on pending litigation." lawsuits are filed about the decision that only catholic institutions such as churches are exempted from providing wide range contraceptive coverage an not schools, universities, hospitals, charities. therein lies the problem. they say it's about religious freedom. back with the panel. how big of a deal they've filed lawsuits? >> big deal with public relations. you have another attempt to delegitimize what the administration has done. this is a long time coming. they worked hand in hand with the administration to avoid this outcome. there were a series of meetings that took place in fall and early winter before this decision announced on january 20 where the leaders of the church said we don't want this to come to a head this way. then you had the president make his announcement and then from that point on, you saw things deteriorate. archdiocese dolan sent out a letter march 1 saying he was shocked this was the outcome because president obama personally assured me he would do nothing to impede the good work of the church. that suggests he thinks the president wasn't honest with him. there were sub skept meetings from that point where they tried to talk about this compromise. the church was not satisfied. the administration declared in kathleen sebelius and jay carney from the podium this was a fait acombli. they were done talking about this. the church felt we reached a point we have no other options and we'll continue to fight this. >> bret: this is a number of shots fired against this healthcare law. the supreme court getting ready to make its huling sometimes in june. number of schools dropped health insurance for students. not only because it's morally objectionable this ruling but because of the premiums. 66% increase. >> you have a situation that interim steps taken on the way to full engagement in the healthcare law, which will come in 2014, people have objections, in some cases people that are students or part-time employees as insurance companies say it's too prohibitive in terms of cost and people make decisions to cut back. these are all on the way to the big decision that comes from the court. that is where it will settle. with regard to this lawsuit, i find this intriguing. we are a country of civil laws. if the muslim community said we want to segregate treatment of men and women in the hospital. if you had people orthodox jews saying we cannot allow certain people to come in our rooms because we are -- you know, okay. it's your church. conduct your business as you. will why would you expect that the government should somehow say we'll follow whatever rules you want for hospitals, university, charity and that you should take government money at the same time? i don't think that's right. >> i think that the lawsuits and what steve described as the church's effort to work with the administration, to no avail. it sounds terrible. they feel that the regulations violated first amendment rights to freely express their religion. it's treme emily restricktive as it only applies to between catholics. ministering and offering service to non-catholic they are violating their beliefs but politically this is a wash. if we talk about the politics of this for the administration, it's true that people on one side of the argument are going to fete all energized and give money and work hard. on the other side, fundraising opportunity for both sides. you can be sure that the administration and the democrats will find a way to say it violates women right to access contraception. >> bret: juan, you don't see religious freedom access to it?
