i want to just offer a big heap of praise and admiration for mcdonald's, yeah, i'm really going to do that and here is why. the center for science and public interest threatens to sue mcdonald's over the toys in the happy meals. they said that the toys encourage kids to eat the happy meals and that contributed to childhood obesity. mcdonald's released a statement saying the toys were there to stay and in turn, they demanded an apology from the center for science and public interest. now, i personally think that cspi people are just a few fries short of a happy meal themselves. blaming the packaging of a toy for overeating and underexercising of kids makes silly what ought to be a very serious issue. childhood obesity is a problem, a big one, it's a problem with kids. it's a serious problem that has stunning health consequences and staggering economic cons kweques consequences, but it hasn't been caused by toys and it's not going to be resolved by getting rid of the toys. when a person is overfed and underexercised so more calories consumed than used there's going to be a weight gain. a three-year-old probably isn't counting calories, but parents can. the three-year-old probably isn't measuring activity levels, and aerobic activities, but parents should. unless you take your kids to mcdonald's and drop them off to be parented, it's really stupid to blame mcdonald's because they put a toy in a happy meal. when i was a kid, there was a prize in a crackerjacks box, but i can't blame my weight challenges throughout my life to overdosing on crackerjacks because i was somehow digging for the prize. a person would have to be add t addicted to crack, not crackerjacks to blame the toys in the box because somebody ate too much stuff that was in the box. what makes my happy meal happy is na as a corporation, mcdonald's did not cave to the pinheaded pressure of political correctness, but this time, they pushed back the loons on the left who seem to forget that americans, not only have personal freedom, but also have to have some personal responsibility. here is a message for the center for science in the public interest. get out of the courtroom, and encourage kids to spend more time on the basketball court and less time in the food court. that's my view and i welcome yours. you can contact me at mike huckabee.com and go to the fox news feedback section at mike huckabee.com, love to get your comments. look, i know we kind of knock our congressional leaders about their inability to get their act together, but if you thought the folks on capitol hill are bad. i want you to check out how they settle debates in taiwan's equivalent of congress. >> >> >> that's actual footage from taiwan and their equivalent of congress. i promise you, we're going to try to keep the debate a little more civilized on the hot seat >> two people with different political views than mine asked me the tough questions, you know the drill and tonight my challengers are back with us, who have been before. liberal commentator at occidental college, caroline, and news day columnist, elliss henican. >> have you got any extra fries, by the way? i think that's a bad idea. >> mike: i now george bush would get blamed for this. george bush's administration is responsible for spending more money than they took in and kicking the can down the road. i will agree with you on that, i'm not going to argue, but 787 billion dollar stimulus package. >> 10% of our debt. >> mike: let's keep reminding ourselves when we add in the health care costs which is going to be more than the supposed savings, a lot more, this president inherited-- >> let me just say he inherited something, but what he's done with it has made it worse, he's like the kid who inherited maybe some debts, but bought more stuff on the dad's credit card than he had. >> maybe it's inheritly politicians and republicans like to spend money on weapons, and on the corporate welfare, dems like to do other stuff. you ran for president, were you talking about spending a lot of money, weren't you. >> mike: no, actually i was talking about cutting a lot of the-- >> defense money. >> mike: not defense money. no, you didn't, i didn't think we should cut the defense money. >> not your sacred cows, the other people's sacred cows. >> ronald reagan did the same thing, inherited an economic down turn and not only support raising taxes in 83, 84, 85, but also waiting to address the issue of debt and deficit. he is doing what obama is doing so apparently you have the issue with ronald reagan's approach as well. >> mike: no, in fact. reagan did things to cut taxes. there were a the love ta lot of raised and republicans forget that. republicans have been as recklessly irresponsible as democrats and spent money and prided themselves for not having raised taxes, but what they actually did was the same thing, which is not balance the budget. we've got to go to another topic. we've got a new medicare, medicaid czar he's going to run cms. basically one of the biggest positions in the government. democrat senator max baucus had a problem with the fact that the president made an interim appointment. a recess appointment. therefore, there was no hearing. >> welcome, sure, i mean, congress lovers to have control of these things and presidents always resisted at both parties, but is it surprising to anyone that the president would pick someone to run medicare and medicaid who supports the president's policies on medicare and medicaid?
