[ applause ] i know that you have been keeping up with the news. you probably have seen that monday, president obama made the comment that there are no idea of dealing with the oil spill and nothing new in 40 years. watch. >> they haven't developed much in the last 30, 40 years. we are using the same stuff, the industry is using the same stuff that the industry was using 40 years ago. >> mike: really? you know what? mr. president, you should have watched our show last week. because what we were able to show you and apparently you didn't get the memo, there are great ideas out there. the problem is the government is bottling up the process to get out there and maybe do some good, cleaning up the oil and finding a solution. maybe you haven't heard of the new ideas in a while but it doesn't mean that americans haven't. a lot of people i think thought that if we were describe your presidency as a television show, so many people thought it might be based on one of the shows like "america's got talent" or "macguiever", a guy that can do anything. but it looks like the amateur hour, or "gong show." [ applause ] i understand that a crisis can be complicated. the management has common components and you take a problem and you assign inauthorized people to the part. decisions have to be pushed to the field. you have to adopt the idea that it's people first, paperwork later. you have can't run the bureaucracy and solve a big problem. president obama sent lawyers down to the coast. he should have sent emergency management professionals. i was in two florida counties this week and i'll be back here this week. walton and okalusa county. they're not waiting for someone to tell them what they can do anymore. they decided and they voted to take care of the shoreline. if the federal government or the state government doesn't like it, they'll say we'll meet you in court. prosecute us. i have a feeling there will be several millions americans going to the courthouse with them. americans say if the got can't somehow come up with some way to deal with the issue, then it gets simple. either lead, follow, or get the heck out of the way. that is what we are looking for in the incredible ongoing 60-plus day process. that's my view. if you want to share yours do so by e-mailing me at mikehuckabee.com. click on fox news feedback section at mikehuckabee.com. well, the oil in the gulf keeps coming. and so do the jokes from late night comedians. >> one fish. two fish. red fish. dead fish. if you would like a transcript of the speech it's now available in the children's book "where the wild things were." president obama delivered a primetime address on the oil spill. he said his administration has been on top of the situation since day 51. i mean day one! sorry. day one. did i say 51 in i mean day one. sorry, sorry. >> b.p. chairman causing controversy when he said that b.p. cares about the small people. part of his new strategy, plug the hole by digging anymores a deeper one. >> sad part is the environmentalists say if the spill is unabated some species might become endangered. like democrats. >> mike: well, why is president obama failing america when it comes to the oil spill in the gulf? it looks like it's time for me to take the hot seat. you know the drill. i get people with different split dal view than mine and they ask me whatever tough questions they want to ask. my challengers are liberal commentator and associate profess so politics at occidental college caroline helen and fox news contributor helen who is back with us again. caroline and ellis good to have you here. are you ready? how do you defend the president? >> why are you letting b.p. off the hook? why blame obama when he had nothing to do with it? >> obama had something for the management of the crisis. b.p. is responsible for shoddy way that they handled not only the drilling regular itself but the mismanagement of the oil still afterwards. when the president says i'm in charge. be in charge and take charge. put people in position and authorize them and free them up. you can't run it through the bureaucracy. >> he has gone to the coast four visits and he got $20 billion escrew fund aside. he got professionals to the site immediately and working with the people to handle the cry us, which are b.p. officials. what more do you want him to do? >> here is what i want him to do. >> he is not done what well? not communicated with the american public all the things he has done. i ask what could he do? at the present time what could he do to stop the leak or process the oil pick up quickly? so many people are criticizing the president and criticizing the b.p. rightfully so. what could he do? >> mike: i admire both of you. you're defending the president's management. i'll be specific. the dutch government three days into it offered to send a skimmer, he should have said yes and suspended the jones act. >> that is a political issue. >> >> authorize the governors on the coast and the emergency -- you asked me a question, i'm giving you an answer. when bobby jindal asked for the sand berms they said they had to do environmental impact study. >> you know what caused the problem, right? all your friends, all of your friends deregulate. >> right. >> the oil companies. let them do what they want. we can trust the oil company. >> mike: this sounds like a wrestling match! >> this is what you get. regulate the people and make it safe again. >> eight years of the -- >> mike: the -- >> the mms was in the popcket of big business. >> bush and cheney, two oil guys, governor! >> the election ended in a -- >> eight years. eight years. >> mike: the election was over in 2008. guess what? barack obama has been president since january of 2009. those are his people in place. >> pulling it back. >> iron triangle. we have a congressional committee and bureaucratic agency. >> mike: i love this. still george bush's fault. >> of course! we're talking about regulation. regulation. >> get agreement on one thing. >> mike: let's try. >> let's get agreement. we had tough regulations to make sure that the guys pay for every nickel they caused us. don't be softy. >> i'm not softy on b.p. i'm angry that tony hayward who has been dismissed as we're taping he's watching a yacht race in great britain. >> perfect. >> i'm totally angry about that. >> 80% of the american public blames him about that. >> mike: here is what i also say. the president needed to send people like greg fugate, the fema director he is sending down there eric holder to figure out who to sue. if you have a car wreck, and the cars are in the middle of the interstate, the first thing you do is send e.m.t., not the trial lawyers with business cards. there is a time to bring the lawsuit. the first thing you do is bring jaws of life. >> he sent thousands of experts to the gulf coast and he did both. >> nobel prize winners. experts on the show like those who don't acknowledge who exist and whose ideas and solutions haven't happened because there is nothing new in 40 years. we have people from hay to hair to every kind of idea imaginable. we in our show found thousands of options. here is what i'd say. turn them loose on the gulf coast and i guarantee you every bit of that is a whole lot better than the crude oil that is about to spill on the beaches and kill every fish. >> we agree on that. >> on that point of agreement, we have to end. how about that? [ applause ] >> mike: good to have you here, raquel. >> thank you. >> mike: i loved your book and surprised by it. >> thank you. you were just surprised i could spell. c'mon. >> mike: more than spell. the thoughts that you express in the book are very deep, philosophical and practical stuff for women. i'll admit there were things in there i skimmed over. >> like menopause. >> mike: menopause, just went right past me. but one of the things that you talk about is that you believe the birth control pill actually changed women in this country. what do you mean by that? >> it changed women around the world, but because we're so much leaders here and i think women's lib and all of that, i survived the '60s. not only survived, that was my prime. i was discovered in the '60s. i was very much, you know, rock 'n' roll, sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. that was my period. where i was in my prime. what i felt was looking back, because i have a chapter in the book that is later on called "momma duck" which is what i call myself now, passing the torch. when i thought about passing the torch to the younger generation, the younger girls, i thought what kind of a legacy have we actually left? since the pill was on the market since the 1960. i didn't think it was a pretty picture. >> mike: you yourself talk about your own belief that women should really protect their honor, have respect for themselves. and they have to be careful to not give themselves away. you yourself, did not grow up with the promiscuous attitude and spirit that many people assume everyone in hollywood is part of. >> i grew up in '60s and i'll be 70 in december. >> mike: you made every american woman jealous. >> the girls in my high school, we just did not have sex. we have didn't, you know, go -- we didn't have sex. no. >> mike: you believed that marriage was -- >> we, we, we -- you know, we did neck and all of that. but we had boundaries, the hand had to be controlled and all of that. we were like very straight laced because that's how we were raised. we watched "ozzie and harriet" and whatever. [ applause ] >> mike: hi. how are you doing? >> pleasure to meet you. >> mike: great to have you here. >> met me ask can a question. in hindsight, aren't you glad you're not the president? this is a much better gig. >> mike: i walk out and people applaud me. i'm having more fun. don't have to pick oil up off gulf coast. >> in new york city. what is better than this? >> mike: this is a good life. nobody from the soprano family is out to whack me either. >> doing much better. in much better shape. >> mike: thank you. i'll tell everybody that you said that. this is a switch from being on the sopranos cast and now father of a teenager and the sausage king on the family show. >> we finished the show and the show was a huge hit. >> mike: it was. what happened to tony? we want to know. >> my upon is tony is -- my opinion is tony is alive and doing his thing. >> mike: and there will be a sequel. >> no. i don't think so. the show was a huge hit all over the world. everyone wants me to play a mobster for the rest of your life. when this role came along which was created by those who made "seventh high school." she offered me a role to play a high school dad and that's fantastic and get away from the mob thing. the show is a huge hit. instead of being recognized by fat sweaty guys with cigars, 14-year-old girls know who i am. >> mike: speaking of that. you recently had experience in the high school thing. off daughter that just graduated. >> yeah. now the whole college thing, i know you have been through. >> mike: oh, boy. >> that is a lot of work. >> mike: two wonderful days in life of a parent. day the kid is born and then they're off to college and off your payroll and to someone else's. >> this is a big process now. i don't think my father knew where i was going when i went to college. i have went to brooklyn college. i think he had no involvement whatsoever. i came in and said i'm going to brooklyn college. "oh kay, great." >> mike: get out of the house. >> yeah. we were all involved and a nice process. you go on the road and road trips. you look at the different schools. she picked the university of delaware, which i'm happy. >> mike: does she want to go into acting? >> no. >> mike: no interest? >> none. i'm happy about that. >> mike: she wants to be an engineer or something. >> maybe teach or something. i'm not sure if she is sure what she wants to do. >> the acting thing, neither daughter caught that bug. they were behind the scene. they come here and hang out with the camera men. >> mike: camera men would like that. all over that. >> not in the whole thing of that. >> mike: your acting career is not what you wanted to do when you started. >> i was working in vegas. as an entertainment director. i used to book at the acts at the riviera. i could have booked you. >> mike: they would have fired you. >> i was entertainment director for years. i used to run the comedy club. they said i think you will be great i have a movie, a skid. so i started to fly to l.a. and do stuff. a hobby. then i started to do more and then i thought is this good? am i getting the roles? then the role of "sopranos" came and i was in new york for a wedding. i asked my agent, see if you can get me to read for the show. i read for it and got lucky. i hit the lottery. got lucky. >> mike: you played a different role, because you had the guy with the warm heart. you were still a bad guy. there was a side of you that i thought required level of acting skill that was challenging, no doubt. >> he was nicer of the group. he wasn't a murderer. at the end, he had to kill someone tony made him. he cared about his wife. his wife passed away. he cared about the kids and good family man. got in the family business. not the brightest guy. sometimes i meet people who go, "you know, you're not as dumb as i thought you were." they've been saying that. well, that's good to know. >> mike: you got killed off the show at your train set, which broke my heart. >> but it was a badge of honor to get killed the right way. if they fade away, not a big deal. if they give you a good kill, that's what you wanted. >> mike: did you have people come up in the time you were on the sopranos and give you advice how to be better gangster? >> funny you say. that i lived in little italy for a few years. you know, i'm walking one day. dirty laundry going down and dry clean and guy stops me. steve, steve, you know i love the show, right? yeah. anybody who ever whacked anybody knows that's not how you do it. all right, listen, i got to get going. i got to bring my clothes in. i need them for tomorrow. what are we talking about, man? i was with michael imperuol whoish -- who played christopher. a guy comes over and tells us how to strangle a guy with a piano cord. >> mike: he's serious? >> dead serious. he pulls out a shoe lace and he's kind of going -- i'm afraid to tell him to get lost. >> single life, abc family. a terrific show. a real show. 15-year-old girl gets pregnant and how it affects everyone's life. real kids, real show. great writing on monday night. >> mike: secret life of an american teenager on abc family. thank you. >> pleasure. >> mike: what a thrill it's been to have you here. i enjoyed it tremendously. >> thank you. [ laughter ] [ applause ] >> they said to me we don't want you here and you don't belong here, you are not part of us. that is how they made me feel. where the acting world have really greeted me with open arms for 43 years. >> mike: you were in dallas, texas, the day that president kennedy was assassinated and you saw jackie kennedy get out of the car in the hospital? >> i was with billy slocum and jimmy mccourter, and jimmy's father worked at love field and he told us. we know what gate he ism coming out of. there were crowds there. we drove to the gate. he came out and i was so shy and bashful my friend billy shook his hand. jimmy shook his hand. i have wouldn't go with him. ohh! and we went to mickey mantle's barbecue to get lunch. somebody came out and said the president's been shot. we were running through the parking lot going the president's been shot. all the adults were going you kids should just stop it now. we said where are they going to take him? parkland, because -- okay, this is funny. we used to go after we dropped the dates off, we'd go wash the emergency cases come in to parkland. >> mike: at least you didn't take your date there, for heaven's sakes. that would be a bad date. >> a lot of gunshot victims going to parkland. lived in texas. what can i tell you. you understand the state. >> i understand. >> and we got pulled over by, i don't know if he was or not but he said he was a secret service agent and drove the car in there and told us not to move and we didn't for two hours. we saw the car come in nobody believed us until we were on tv later on. and they said here is three youngsters from dallas talking to the senator from illinois. everybody went, oh, you really were there. yeah, we told you! we kept trying to go, we'll be late for the football practice. they will make us run extra laps. they didn't, but that's what happened. >> mike: i want to ask you. we had conversation with some of the earlier guests about the oil spill. when you watch this as just a citizen, what do you think of and how are you reacting to what you see in the gulf? >> i will tell you one thing. the one thing that irritated me more than anything is that an actual sitting president has said, "what do you want me to do? suck it up with a straw?" i'm going, are you kidding? is he axle rose from guns and roses? what are we talking about here?
