word the white house may be willing to negotiate on the so-called public option. part of health care reform, but will the president's liberal base give up on a government-run insurance plan? also tonight, chaos as a speeding car careens into a busy hospital lobby and the suspect take off, a bear breaks into a cozy wooden retreat and can't get out. plus, a major shark warning along the northeastern coast line, keeping thousands out of the water on a bustling holiday weekend. but the president's advisor for environmentally friendly jobs, the so-called green czar, stepping down today amid a firestorm of controversy and it's also triggering a much larger debate. over the president's use of czars in the first place. van jones apologized last week for some controversial position and he signed a petition, calling for an investigation into the government's involvement in the attacks of 9/ 9/11, that 2004 petition asked for congressional hearings and other investigations into what whether high level governmental officials allowed the attacks to occur. although he says it never reflected his actual views. he referred to republicans with an expletive and he drew ire for these statements made in 2005. >> our young white males are suffering from this society, profound profoundly, profound ly and nobody is saying a word about it. you've never seen a columbine done by a black child. never. they always say we can't believe it happened here, we can't believe it was these, these suburban white kids. it's only them. >> overnight van jones stepped down and released this statement. quote, opponents of reform mounted a vicious smear campaign against me. they're using lies and distortions to distract and divide, but i came here to fight for others not for myself. i cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past. we need all hands on deck fighting for the future. jones' resignation, raising new questions over the president's czars, unlike cabinet members they do not have to be approved by congress. that's an advantage for the white house, as the approval process says has become drawn out and contentious in recent administrations. caroline shively with the news, caroline? >> gregg, in the wake of green czar van jones stepping down over a controversy of remarks came to life, a republican congressman is calling on the obama administration to stop appointing any more czars. appointees who generally don't have to be confirmed by congress. >> i'm suggesting that the administration should suspend immediately any future czar appointments while the both the constitutionality of this practice is examined and while the background and qualifications of individuals who have been appointed as czars has been carefully examined. >> jones quit his job in a letter late saturday night. saying his new statements have become a distraction for the administration. the most controversial about jones a petition he signed in 2004, asking for an investigation into whether bush administration officials allowed the neven attacks to happen. although jones said he didn't read it very closely. he remains popular with a number of democrats. >> this guy is a yale educated lawyer, a best selling author about his specialty, i think he was brought down. and i think it's too bad. washington is a tough place that way and i think it's a loss to the country. >> this morning, white house press secretary robert gibbs was asked if he thinks there's a problem with the white house vetting process. he says no, believed the public option is a good tool. now, it shouldn't define the whole health care debate, however, the there are the insurance guarantees that are in there for the 160 million people who have employer based coverage are absolutely essential so that they have the ability to hang on to their insurance if they get seriously ill. >> the president's speech is risky as he tries to salvage the health care of plans. polls show the public is wary after big expensive overhaul with cost estimates 1 trillion over ten years, there's no agreement on capitol hill whether to take big, bold action the cable television channel c-span >> a wild fire alert. signs of progress in the effort to control the deadly los angeles station fire. the u.s. forest service saying that firefighters indeed contained more than half of the blaze and they're building protective lines close to a mountain highway. the wildfire so far killed two firefighters and scorched nearly 250 square miles and authorities say it is part of a murder investigation because evidence shows that arsonists intentionally ignited it. and the weather in southern california may help those firefighting efforts. we're told that cooler temperatures and higher humidity levels expected throughout much of next week, meanwhile, the rest of the country still experiencing some rather balmy conditions, but wet weather security guard noticed the car driving erratically and made a beeline for the lobby. fortunately, the lobby was closed for the night. nobody was injured, but the driver wasn't alone, a couple of passengers, including a dog. the trio scattering on foot and police eventually capping up with the driver and canine sidekick, that's not coming easily. >> the dog and the subject both attacked the officer, so, and that individual subsequently chased. >> well, this 31-year-old now facing a slew of charges, we're told another man in a car not expected to be charged and we understand he the attacked officer is doing okay. >> you're not going to believe this, a little boy missing for two long years turns up alive inside a tiny hidden room at his grandmother's home. police say six-year-old ricky was living in a cramped room about five foot by 12 foot and the height of a washing machine. the officials charged the mother with felony child abduction and busting the boy's grandmother, said she helped keep him hidden in the rural illinois home, since the child went missing in 2007. his mother and grandmother both accused of father of sexual abuse, we're told the child welfare workers are investigating those claims now. in the meantime, ricky is staying with a relative. his dad denies ever hurting the little boy and says he just glad his son was found safe. >> my son was kept captive in a house, basically, and not allowed to look out the window unless it was dark and not allowed to go outside unless it was night, and i i saw him as white as my car, he's pale. >> police say surprisingly ricky is doing quite well. social and talkative especially for somebody kept indoors and isolated for so very long. when one little boy is found, another is missing in california, but new efforts underway this hour to try to find him. five-year-old hasanni campbell missing almost a month and police had stopped searching for the child, but volunteers in freemont, well, they're not giving up. this weekend a scuba diver is checking out lake elizabeth and other volunteers are looking along shoreline. the one time disabled faster care parents were arrested in the case, but now released. another search is planned for next weekend. fox news is tracking the h1n1 and the rush to get a vaccine ready by next month. as we've reported, children are among those most at risk of getting the virus. and the centers for disease control and prevention urging parents to get their kids vaccinated with up to two doses. now, the c.d.c.'s director even says his own children will get the shot once it's available, but as laura ingle reports, many parents are deeply concerned about the side effects, wondering if it's newly developed vaccine will be safe for their kids. >> well, gregg, many parents are reporting that they're still wary of the h1n1 vaccine that's still developed. according to a new associated press poll, most parents are okay with their kids receiving vaccinations at school, but only a third of people saying they're likely to get vaccinated themselves. the biggest concerns have been overpotential side effects, while the regular seasonal flu vaccine is one of the safest innoculations on the planet. and past swine flu shots caused health concerns. in 1976 there were reports many would receive the vaccinations and his was a real paralyzing condition. a physician in new jersey whose own son recovered from the swine flu, he says we've still got a lot of testing to do. >> to be completely confident in the vaccine what you would love to see is both short and long-term safety and effective necessary data. we're in a situation where we may not have that. so what we have to do as always is weigh risks and benefits. >> as clinical trials continue, the centers for disease control hopes to have the vaccine ready by fall, a multi-million dollar campaign to encourage people to get vaccinated at their own discretion. while the top vac nation officials have reportedly been meeting to decide which age group will get top priority once the vaccine is made, many parents are still looking to be filled in on the details. >> i have concerns what's in the vaccine. i have concerns about whether it's been tested properly. what its efficacy is, i think as parents, we deserve to have that information before we make a decision. >> a spokesperson for the c.d.c. tells fox that they want to assure the public that they won't push anybody into getting the vaccination and that they want the public to be educated, not coerced, gregg. >> north beach, south beach, harding beach and a beach in or leans is planning swimming and experts say they've spotted four great whites off the coast line. between eight and ten feet long. a large (announcer) find out how to get your first full prescription free at advaircopd.com. . >> mike: . last night we talked about the h1n1 washing sig warning signs what the government is preparing to do when the number of cases skyrocket. mass innoculation is one of the strategies officials hope to roll out a vaccine the middle of next month. in the meantime, universities and schools are installing hand sanitizers around campuses and dormitories, creating quarantine rooms and screen in, separate patients who may be infected and c.d.c. vices them to have lenient policies. the doctor runs the american college of cardiology and a health care advisor from former president bill clinton. dr. lewis, thanks for being with us. talk to us a bit more about the government preparations, is the government doing enough and how important is all of it. >> i think it's important, i think while this particular infection hasn't been as severe, at least in the southern hemisphere as feared, we could have a pandemic, 30% of the u.s. population could be infected and as stated earlier, on the show. and it's going to be mainly young people, younger people who don't have immunity, kids and younger people, but the vulnerable, people with cardiac conditions, people with immune compromise and others, will be the ones who could be most severely affected and die. so it's important that we control the spread of the infection since so many people have no immunity to it and could get infected in large numbers. >> you know, i was at the c.d.c. website looking it over the other day and i noticed something curious, past flus really are a risk for kids under the age of five, but this one, 80% of the children who have died or actually between the ages of five and 24. so, really, everybody is at high risk of complications? >> that's right, and you know, the flu is typically spread by kids and young adults. and then it gets to the vulnerable people, so, expanding the immunization from kids to younger adults is a good idea. college age students and so forth. you know, we will see this, this will have, this may not have any serious effects, but viruses can also mutate. so, with this many people affected, i think it's good to be on the safe side and remember that we're talking 45 years ago when we last experienced swine flu. we've learned a lot in the vaccine production process, and how to test this out. i think the c.d.c. will do a good job of being safe before the next vaccine gets to it. but i think we ought to take it seriously as a nation. >> there are a lot of people. parents especially understandably are very concerned about giving a vaccine to their children and the vaccine hasn't been fully tested in the late stages of testing, right?
