(laughter) >> what are they going to say? >> i don't know if he's blaming on the left, but we'll detail what the president plans to do about it. >> he did it comedic pause. he knew it was coming. >> it's world series day. oh, oh, it's super bowl sunday. we are going live to miami where brian kilmeade gearing up for the big game there and wake him up with the colts cheerleaders. the slogan from david in virginia. "fox & friends" is where it's atment i know it, my wife knows it and so does the cat. >> that's awesome. >> a gretchen fan, i guess. >> gretchen is not here. >> all right. look at that. and an exciting morning here on "fox & friends." >> look at the studio. >> yeah, i can't believe you're not already in the recliners and eating the nachos. >> turn it around fast, look at the living room, look at this? >> we have some solid recliners. >> i think we ought to have our super bowl party in the studio, a show going on at 6:25 eastern time? this looks like the spot to watch the game. >> we've got folks outside partying already this morning. >> they're tailgating. >> and making subs and already partying, cooking up stuff. and we're eating all morning and showing you how to make a last minute tailgate party. last minute party. >> i'll be much larger three hours from now. >> and brian kilmeade dun live at the stadium as well, it should be a packed three hours. >> sure is. get to your headlines, what's happening while you're sleeping, take a look the shuttle endeavour went nowhere. the launch was scrubbed hours ago thanks to bad weather and joining us live from canaveral. what happened? >> a super bowl disappointment for the kennedy space center, a cold front moved into the sunshine state the past 15 hours and low level clouds so this were below the threshold that nasa sets out as a safety standard that's just in case the space shuttle launched and then there was an issue and they had to return to earth and jetson off the solid rocket boosters and exterm fuel tank, low level clouds in this case would have made it a lull bit of a visual impairment for the commander to safely land the shuttle here at the kennedy space center. so it was waived for 24 hours, actually 23 hours and 35 minutes. it slides now, the launch time, 25 minute earlier to 4:14 a.m. monday morning and so this was supposed to be a spectacular dark launch of the space shuttle endeavour and six person crew on super bowl sunday, now it will have to wait until the monday after. >> all right, phil, we'll see you at 4:14 a.m. on monday. thanks so much. >> looking right at you, baby. >> all right. got it. here are the rest of your headlines. toyota is now recall prius hybrids in japan after problems with their braking system. the company is also telling american dealers it will unveil a plan it if he cato fixs this country. >> and they hired the glover group and releasing a new tv ad to regain customers trust. japan lifted a tsunami warning after a quake off the coast. 6.6. so strong it was felt in taiwan, 155 miles away. right now no reports of any injuries. take a look at this home video, a giant wave of mud rushing through neighborhoods swallowing everything in its path. this happened north of los angeles for more than four inches of rain fell in less than 24 hours. 40 homes were damaged some declared uninhabitable. thankfully no one was hurt. this video, however, is very disturbing. it's hard to watch. two small planes collide in flames over colorado leaving all three on board dead. take a close look. that's a glider on your screen. there you can see it's carrying three people, towed by one of the planes that crashed. not only is the glider cut loose, but the pilot was able to fly through the fire ball and land safely. new orleans has a new mayor. and the saints head to the super bowl, mitch landrieu, the brother of senator mary landrieu is the first white mayor of new orleans in 30 years. since his dad was mayor. landrieu, a democrat beat out ten candidates. he rode a wave of discontent over the slow pace of katrina recovery and rampant crime. >> the people of new orleans have called us to work hard so we should accept the call. the people of new orleans have asked us to sacrifice and so we should, but the only way to do that is for us to seek, to find, and to secure higher common ground. >> landrieu replaces ray nagin who was term limited. those are your headlines. >> boy, oh, boy, it's not just the snow that's going on in this country. we saw the video there the mudslides as we go to rick reichmuth. this is nasty on both coasts, serious injuries? >> yesterday we had the flash flood warnings across southern california that's exactly what that was from. four inches of rain in a short amount of time and all of that rain a few weeks ago and more coming again this week. here's your temperature behind the system that brought the snow. things have cooled down dramatically across much of the northeast. 17 degrees in new york city. skiens conditions are very, very clear across much of the east and florida looking fine for tonight's game and the northeast, see the storm exiting and clear skies behind it, but clear and very cool skies so none of the snow on the ground that massive amounts of snow is going to melt. take a look at video that came in from the nation's capital. we've got video across some of the muments, spectacular in you like to see the snow. absolutely miserable if you're shovelling it, 27 to 28 inches barely under the all-time record for snowfall in the nation's capital and also the same towards baltimore and philadelphia. we'll show a lot more video during the morning, but paralyzing the area of much of the northeast. more snow on the way by weapons. here is a little snow across parts of minnesota and dave you're mentioning much like in california. that's a system this week is going to trek across much of the southern part of the country and wednesday potentially a snowstorm maybe in across the big cities as well coming up. so lots to talk about guys. >> i guess that's all everybody needs, more snow. >> thanks, rick. >> six words for you, sarah palin at tea party convention, all you need to say. she brought the house down last night. let's listen to what she had to say about the tea party movement off the top. >> i caution allowing this movement to be defined by any unleader or politician. the tea party movement is not a top-down operation, it's a ground-up call to action that's forcing both parties to change the way that they're doing business and that's beautif beautiful. >> this is about the people. this is about the people and it's bigger than any king or queen of a tea party and it's a lot bigger than any charismatic guy with a teleprompter. >> and that's not all she had to say about the president. she also said that we need a commander-in-chief to win this war on terror, but not a professor of law. she said this party does not need a leader as she emerges as that the face of the tea party movement. >> that's curious because she is at this point the person who most personifies it as clayton said she brought the house down, they cleared the and she spoke 45 minutes to hundreds of people at the convention, but she basically hit a lot of greatest hits, the things that the tea party most rejects about this administration and president obama, she hit right on. take a listen to this next sound bite of hers. >> it has been so interesting now to watch the aftermath of the massachusetts revolution. the white house blames the candidates their candidates and nancy pelosi, she blames the senate democrats and rahm emanuel, he criticized a pollster. and yet again, president obama found some way it make this all about george bush. >> and then she also talked about transparency within the obama administration, campaign promises we heard on the campaign trail and how is that working out for you and talked about transparency, these closed door hearings on health care and got a dig in at the president. listen to this one. >> a special hello to the c-span viewers. you may not be welcome in those health care negotiations, but you have an invitation to the tea party. . >> so the future of the g.o.p. is in question here. we are going to drive in and get more analysis on this in a few minutes because it appears that she attacked the republican party machine and the democratic party machine so she wanted republicans to try to fold in some of the tea party members. how they can do that though is a delicate balancing act. >> and coined new phrases we'll talk about. >> the chowder revolution right there. >> the chowder revolution and we'll look at catch phrases. >> meanwhile. >> let's get down to the man at the stadium brian kilmeade outside sunlight stadium in miami for super bowl xliv. what is happening this morning? who do you like? i'm going to put you on the spot. >> i think it's going to be saints in a comeback in the fourth quarter, here is why, dave the jets proved you can play with the colts right off. i think one thing the jets didn't have is the ability with a young quarterback to come back should they fall behind. they've got the best offense the new orleans saints in financial, if you watched them play and america has seen them play and they've brought a lot of different weapons, two weeks to prepare. they have a coach, offensive wizard. i think the saints come in as one that no one puts pressure on. playing with house money so to speak, four and a half favorites. intrigue to go everyone on the couch, too, and alisyn in a moment when she lets her hair down you-- how unusual for the number one seeds to go. >> 1993. >> i knew that. >> on the other side the colts come in to the very stadium where it rained and they beat the bears a few years ago. peyton manning wasn't great. got the mvp, but was just average and dave, i wonder if there's so much pressure on his shoulders, everyone saying he's so great and comparing him to montana and others if this might be a moment where he might feel a little bit of the pressure, what do you think? >> yeah, i think he's the best ever and i hate to admit this as tom brady fan, but drew brees is greatly overlooked. might be the best in overall skills and what he thinks to the table. dwight freeney is banged up, a speed rusher, a bad ankle. if he can't get pressure on brees. i think he'll find a way to win. some fourth quarter comeback and flukey events might decide this game. >> all right. you know what, dave that's an analysis and clayson, get you next hour, alisyn took most of the time. jerry rice and emmitt smith head up a dmiet with others, dick la bow and floyd little, but dancing with the stars champs were teary. was anybody surprisingly knowing they're going in? >> yeah, emmitt smith one of the greatest running backs ever. how do you think it's not getting in? >> surprised? >> no, great guys did not get in. chris carter one of the great receivers of all time did not get in, but a great induction in august. brian, thanks, we're looking forward to the rest of the reports and how you played in had a direct tv beach football game. can't wait to see that. >> if we have time. >> brian i'll send you more notes so you can talk about them in the next hit. thank you. >> i'm sure, i'll have my pen ready. >> coming up on the show. compensation for ground zero workers supposed to go to workers, right? makes sense, why lawyers could bag up to half their money. . >> and the who dat dog? one of my favorite super bowl stories, not pictured there. it's coming up and you don't want to miss it. there he is, listen. >> that's what i'm talking about. . >> we're carb loading for the game. alright. that's great. i want to personally thank you for 100 calorie hearty chicken rotini. well, it'not just me. you're so funny. i like you. >> red meat in the buckle of the bible belt. she was playing to her base. >> yes, she was. >> is the republican party in the middle of an identity crisis? >> it may be in the middle of an identity crisis, i wouldn't know. by her playing to a base and not understanding that tea party could be people in the middle, even democrats upset with some very clear things, taxes, bailing out the big banks, et cetera, i think she did not do the tea party movement a whole lot of good. >> she might not have done-- she brought up scott brown repeatedly and talked about scott brown, is that a problem going forward because scott brown rarely mentioned he's even a republican. >> here is the thing, you know, the american people have waken up, the tea party movement is about freeman, independence, and liberty. so that is the basis of what the free party is all about, the tea party individuals who did support scott brown because she looked at him as someone representative of small government. i don't care your political background or affiliation, if you're someone for big government, big spending, big deficit, the american people are against that and why they've come off their coaches, being vocal. i'm a part of the tea party movement and proud to say so and i'm going to tell you, we are watching. >> she talks about not having big government and talks about investment in energy, that's big government. she talked about her child or a child, special needs child being accepted and it is actually the federal government through the department of education and also hhs that supports schools so that children with special needs can get support. that's big government. >> she invoked ronald reagan, and tactfully, facts are facts, he walked the middle, able to tack about conservative principles while he was president, but tripled the federal deficit and raised taxes four times during presidency and increase bureaucracy by 61,000 jobs, but he knew how to govern. >> here is the thing, times have changed and the american people want representative government, don't want government telling them what to do. the big concern is about jobs. what did the administration do last year? the focus was on health care and cap and trade and ram it go down our throats and that's not what we want. >> thank for joining us. >> go saints. >> there you go, thanks, ladies. federal air marshals trying to take down terrorists and there rpt enough to go around and should we let retired police officers carry guns on planes to compensate? >> plus, praying in games, our next guests that say that athletes pray before games say it's full of baloney. we'll be right back. ún >> well, you've seen it all over the field, teams to pray in the locker room and players who thank god after scoring a touchdown, but is there room for faith in sports and vice versa and in book "good game, christy and sports", say that faith and sports completely clash. this is super bowl sunday, be careful when you leave here. >> it's a big day. >> you say the lord ought to be discriminating when embracing sports, if you will, especially when it comes to football. why do they clash? it seems to me they ought to embrace sports, any of them, all of them, including football. why not? >> well, first of all, dave i would laboring make some clear distinctions between sport as we play it in informal settings and sport that's driven by commercial interest. i would also make distinctions between sports, football. i've been particularly critical about football mainly because of the violence and the mentalities that are required to administer and receive that violence. >> well, i would argue, and on the other side that if kid don't get into the pews and into the church on sundays they might be learning value raigtable lessons, friday, saturday and every other day, things that church ought to embrace, team concept and following orders from leaders and coaches and getting along with others and off the streets, i could go on and on, you're talking to a sports guy here. this sunday we are going to see an ad that's controversial. tim tebow starring in an ad that seems to embrace a pro-life concept from the people that focus on the family. you say this is not the right platform or stage for this ad, why not? >> well, there are two things going on here, one is, are the bible verses that he paints on his face, the other is the whole network that is in back of that effort. >> what's the problem? >> welsh the primary problem, this is a message of the sacredness of life, which christianity certainly can endorse and the sacredness of the human body and i have questions about the medium that the tebows have chosen to impart this message, it's a medium of the nfl which values anything, but the sacredness of human life. >> i want to touch on the bible verses that tim tebow does put in his eye black during the game. each and every week those bible verses were among the top google searches in the country. what does that do? that leads college people and others who don't touch the bible to look up that verse and find out what it means. >> that has tremendous impact. >> that's an assumption. >> it's not an assumption, the google searches is a fact. >> okay, well, the-- >> isn't that a good thing is my point. more people read the bible, wouldn't that be a good thing. >> that may be a good thing. i question whether the christian message needs to get mixed up in something as glitzy and superficial as the super bowl. >> okay. well, it's an interesting point of view. we appreciate you being here and the book is "good game christianity and the culture of sports" interesting point of view, sir, thanks for being here on super bowl sunday. >> coming up, defense secretary robert gates in italy right now, not mincing word when it comes to iran and its nuclear ambitions. then, air marshals trained to take down terrorists, but there aren't enough of them to go around. should we let retired police officers carry guns on planes to compensate? >> this isn't the first time that we've heard that a terrorist in custody is talking. back in 2007 khalid shaikh mohammed gave a confession and that became public. did you object to that then? >> it depends upon when it comes out. if it comes out a month or so after he's talked, then by that time the intelligence community has either been able to follow up on that information or it is not actionable. right, the critical period was the first five weeks after abdulmutallab was captured. instead of mirandizing him and giving him a lawyer so he shut up, they should have brought in full go well. how has this work over the past decade? >> it's a failure, it's an abject failure. we've lost between 11 and 14,000 soldiers who volunteered to serve their country and because of the way they had sex we kicked them out. we have needs of people pushed on foreign languages, being brave in the battlefield has nothing to do how you go to the bathroom or how you have sex and that's more than time to change that. if you volunteer to serve this great country, we should welcome you, not push you away because of some arcane attitude about sex. >> yeah, it's like a civil rights issue. i find it absurd. let's go back a little ways, back to 2007 because back then, then on the campaign trail, then senator john mccain said look, when i hear from the military brass, and they want to end don't ask-don't tell i'll get in line with them. we fuhred from defense secretary gates and john mccain had this to say the other day, take a listen. >> at this moment, immense hardship for our armed that having homosexuals in the military is a distraction, for men and women. can you address that. >> absolutely, trouble for five years, it's a conservative organization, it's not going to be accepted immediately. more so on the gay men than it is on lesbian side for a whole bunch of different reasons, but it won't be easily accepted, but in the longer run it's the right thing to do from a talent standpoint. once again, we're in a war and people want to preserve their country we should be welcoming them and we ought to change this policy. it just didn't work. >> colonel david hunt, the granting of constitutional rights to these people who do not deserve them, who are illegal, enemy combatants, that is not something that we need to give them. do you want them tried in your agents to nigeria to get his family, please, please, can you get him to talk now? and then the coupe de gras is when the administration says we got him to talk now and that is basically shutting down after being mirandized people still sing like canaries and you never know which criminal will give you information and he has. we know and doesn't it comfort you because his family was brought in, he has given up -- >> no, it does not comfort me. it is an admission by the administration they made a mistake, 50 minutes of interrogation was only focused on getting enough evidence for the crime they charged him with as opposed to getting intelligen intelligence, any guy who decides to give up his right to remain silent, establish it and make it clear-cut because the judge will suppress it anyway.
