let's do some headlines for you this morning because the iranian military ships could soon be headed to u.s. waters. a top naval officer says the middle eastern country plans to station ships off the coast, no timeline given on when the ships would depart or arrive. iran not saying which kind of ships they will deploy. u.s. officials have not commented on the situation. fugitive caught after 41 years on the run. george wright, the 1970's militant who escaped to new jersey prison and hijacked the plane to nigeria finally caught in portugal. they matched his fingerprint to an i.d. card. right now 68 years old, escaped to africa after hijacking a delta airlines flight and getting a million dollars ransom. right now, awaiting extradition back to the united states. a death row inmate in oregon begging to be executed. gary hougen asking a judge to waive his appeal and proceed with the execution. he calls the lawyers that want to save his life tree hugers. if he gets his wish, it would be oregon's first in 14 years. he pleaded guilty to beating his ex-girlfriend's mother to death and was also convicted of killing another inmate. and the dog, as eric was telling you about having a rough, rough day. you're looking at mango, 3-year-old pomeranian who ran away from home and on to a deadly freeway in oregon. he dodged six lanes of traffic before a group of drivers pulled over. even then, mango proved hard to pin down. one man falls down trying to save her. it's a she, eric. mango was not hurt. she's now back with her owners. i guess we have to say good girl. >> what a dog tale. >> let's start things off by telling but the governor of the great state of new jersey, chris christie in the 6:00 hour last night pacific time, he was there at the ronald reagan library out in california. nancy reagan in the front row. and, you know, everybody wanted to see whether or not he would tip his hand, whether or not he would run for the presidency of the united states and last night, listen to this, he goes right after the president of the united states and in fact, he sounds like he's running! >> thank you very much. president obama prepares to divide our nation to achieve re-election. this is not a leadership style. this is a re-election strategy. telling those who are scared and struggling that the only way their lives can get better is to diminish the success of others. trying to cynically convince those who are suffering that the american economic pie is no longer a growing one that can provide more prosperity for all who work hard insisting that we must tax and take and demonize those who have already achieved the american dream. that may turn out to be good re-election strategy, mr. president, but it is a demoralizing message for america. >> pretty strong stuff, although i think i'm going to take steve to task, he's not running for president. >> i said he sounded like he was running for president. >> just a sliver open, a little sliver open. >> you're right. >> look at this answer, an audience member, several urged him and he left the door open this much. >> i really implore you as a citizen of this country to please, sir, to reconsider. >> i hear exactly what you're saying and i feel the passion with which you say it. and it touches me. because i can tell you, i'm just a kid from jersey who feels like i'm the luckiest guy in the world to have the opportunity that i have to be the governor of my state. i thank you for what you're saying and i take it in and i'm listening to every word of it and feeling it, too. >> so he avoids a direct answer. but he said earlier in the day to a group of donors out there in california, he said he was not running although "the new york times" says he's reconsidering, chris christie's brother todd says he's not running and the former governor of new jersey says he's giving it lots of thought. >> i wonder why he's doing it. he sounds very presidential. sounds great saying all the right things and taking shots at president obama for, you know, all the policies that aren't working, yet then he'll say i'm not ready. the problem is not saying no, chris christie said no. he said if i have -- >> a million times. >> the problem saying he's not ready. that could come to be a problem if he does change his mind and decide to run. i'm sure the left was going to say or obama administration was going to say look, you yourself said you're not ready. how can you elect a president who is not ready? >> i don't know if the obama administration would want to bring that story line back up because that was the storyline about their own person in obama and not -- and i see what you're saying but i'm not so sure they would want to use that in an attack ad against chris christie. it's kind of insulting to the other republican candidates to have so many people urging christie because it also plays into the democrats' hands because it's making it seem like the republicans within their own party don't like the candidates who are currently standing on the stage. if you're -- if you're part of the g.o.p., that must be concerning. that must be a concerning aspect to you. >> one other person not on the stage yet and a lot of people wondering whether or not former governor sarah palin is going to run, she's coming up against a deadline. she said she'd let people know by the end of october. she was on greta last night and addressed this. listen. >> through my process of decision making with my family and with my close friends as to whether i should throw my name in the hat for the g.o.p. nomination or not for 2012, is a title worth it? does a title shackle a person? are they someone like me who is a maverick. i do go rogue and i call it like i see it and i don't mind stirring it up in order to get people to think and debate aggressively and to find solutions to the problems that our country is facing. somebody like me, is a title and a campaign too shackling? does that prohibit me from being out there, out of a box, not allowing handers to shape me and to force my message to be what donors or what contributors or what political pundits want it to be. does a title take away my freedom to call it like i see it and to affect positive change that we need in this country? that's the biggest contemplation piece in my process. >> so she's in the midst of her process. >> see, and i think she knows. i mean, come on. >> of course. >> you know. >> she's not running. >> again, it's a disservice, i think, to the republican party to not come out and say emphatically, it is at this point. sarah palin knows if she's running or not. what's the point in not tell the american people? >> she wants to play the game. >> i think that's kind of a disservice in a way to the republican party. you have nine or 10 candidates who said they are going to run and it's about time if you believe in the republican side of things, you have to get down to business and get something done so i don't know. i just would rather have them all be emphatic and say i'm in or i'm out. >> i think they're -- my personal opinion is they've been waiting to see what's going on with the approval ratings of perry and romney and they stayed fairly high even though, you know, perry -- >> get in late. >> yeah, you can get in late but they're now pushing the envelope. now they only have a couple of weeks before they have to decide where they would lose delegates, if they were voted and couldn't get the delegates in some states. >> are they looking at the polls? the recent polls, amongst republicans show that 72% of republicans do not want sarah palin to get into the race. so maybe they're looking at the polls as well. >> plus, you got to come up against the calendar just politically, if she wants to be on the ballot in florida, she has to know by the last day of october. if you're in south carolina you have to know by the first day of november. >> two strong g.o.p. candidates, sarah palin and chris christie who haven't announced, are they both thinking about 2016? if they're both thinking i'm not going to run now, let's go tore 2016, what a feel thatield that to be, christie, palin, marco rubio. >> unless a republican wins in 2012. and by the way, we should mention that chris christie had all those speeches planned a long time ago this week. it's not as if he decided to go out to the reagan library and make everyone start to think he was running for president again. apparently, these have been on his docket for a long period of time. >> forget about 2016. let's talk about 2012 and president obama has some trouble because big business is in a very public way right now turning on the president. the guy who is the ceo of coke, he talked to "the financial times" and essentially what he said was, you know what united states?
