>> that's what every journalist wants to know. they can't find her! >> huffington post calls it a wild goose chase. what she is doing is a test run to find out if she can execute on "a decidely unconventional campaign game plan." her husband todd is leaning towards running as she is. the whole idea is whether or not it is logistically possible for a big family to run for president. >> last night, she was on the bus with our own greta van suster susteren. >> let's take a listen. >> this isn't a campaign tour except to campaign on our constitution, charters about liberty. this is not about me. want a publicity seeking tour. it's about highlighting the great things about america. >> you can't have a huge bus painted with a logo on it and go to all the historic sites and knowing in a matter of weeks we're going to find out if you're going to be in or out of this presidential race. >> why not? >> thank you. yesterday, she went to mount vernon, the home of the first president of the united states. meanwhile, here's greta asking her on the bus that's not a campaign bus whether or not she could beat the guy who is currently president of the united states. >> do you think you can beat president obama in 2012, sarah? >> i think that any republican candidate is very, very electable. i think americans are ready for true change, change to get our country back on the right track. >> you're interested in running. are you going to run? >> i think the country needs to have a new president undoubtedly and we need to have a strong, bold constitutional conservative, someone who is committed to repealing the government takeover of health care. i am committed to that effort but i'm also committed to american-made jobs. that will be my focus. >> and the congresswoman also visited with the family of a fallen soldier. she went to a house party right in the area and she also ripped the president's libya operations saying what the heck are we doing there? we should be focused on iran. >> interesting thing is sarah palin was campaigning for michelle bachmann last year. it will be interesting if they both decide to get in the race because they pretty much appeal to, i think, the same group of peel. >> at one point in new hampshire, one of the people at the particular house party that the reporter that quoted -- made a lot of quotations of what she said, somebody said, why are you running for president rather than trying to challenge al franken in your home state of minnesota? she said, we need somebody to get rid of obama care. that's one of the tenets she's working out. >> you can't kick out al franken. he has to do the six years. >> congresswoman bachmann will be on our show live on "fox & friends." in the meantime, the talk continues about chris christie, the governor of new jersey. even though he's said he's not running for president in 2012, a lot of people are trying to convince him otherwise. now a group of businessmen influential from iowa are coming to new jersey to have dinner at the governor's mansion to get him yet to change his mind. >> could you imagine flying in and saying have dinner for me. did we tape any of his response? >> we have 16 seconds worth. would you like to see them? >> do we have time? >> let me push the button. >> i'm not going to be the republican candidate for president or vice president in 2012. that's something they'll have to put in the circular file once the nominees are selected. >> what do i have to do short of suicide to convince people i'm not running? apparently i actually have to commit suicide. >> pretty serious that he is not. but as we said before on this show, his endorsement will be key. i mean, whomever chris christie decides to endorse, that's going to be huge. that's why all the candidates have been coming to the governor's mansion in new jersey to try to get that endorse many. >> here's the things about new jersey, the legislative session wraps up at the end of june and there are some who say that by that time, some real pressure could come to bear on mr. christie to, perhaps, dip his toe into the race. steve forbes on iowa says "i think there will be others in the race." does he mean chris christie? even though they don't know it today, looking at an incomplete field. >> i don't know how he gets around those statements, though, of saying he's not -- he's not going to do it. you know, i mean, he's been pretty emphatic. i don't know, maybe he could come up with a really great reason why he decided to change his mind but those are pretty emphatic statements when he says he's not going to do it. >> here are the other republicans trapsing across iowa who have not committed yet. we know that mitt romney is going to get in. rick santorum is going to run, going through iowa. tim pawlenty is in and herman cain is going through. his star is rising. and congressman ron paul has that niche audience. >> sure. in the meantime, what do you think? >> my first thought was poor tim pawlenty! he won't be able to catch a break from the media. nobody will cover his campaign. sarah palin will be kicking this into high gear and just expect the media mania surrounding sarah palin which will make it difficult for other g.o.p. contenders to get their message out! it will also make it more difficult for them to raise the money because they're not getting the attention. >> sure. >> so it will energize the g.o.p. but it will also, you know, make the other contenders really have to scramble. >> leslie, you would love to have governor sarah palin run. you as a liberal talk show host would have lots of material. >> oh, yes. i wouldn't have to work as hard. yeah, no, absolutely. i think -- i think it would do more than split the money and mitt romney has raised a lot so i don't agree with amy on the money. i do agree it would energize those democrats as we watch the tea party fragmented and we would watch the g.o.p. fragmented between the newt gingrich g.o.p.'s, the romney g.o.p.'s, the tea publicans, etc., i say the more the merrier and the more there are, the easier there is that president barack obama will be re-elected. >> heidi, i understand that you feel if she does get in, it will -- the entire mainstream media is going to focus on her and that could wind up affecting the balance of the g.o.p. pack. >> absolutely because everything she says, the press is going to hold against everybody in the g.o.p. see, they're all like that. see, they all believe that. i think that would be detrimental. i like sarah palin a lot. but i think any misstep she makes will, unfortunately, be, you know, bleed all over the g.o.p. pack sadly. >> let's take a look at the g.o.p. pack. there's a poll out there that shows that rudy is on top of the pack right now. 16%. romney, 15%. palin comes in at 13%. paul 12% and cain 10%. what do you think? is she going to get in? >> i have no idea if governor palin is going to get in. we know that sarah palin sells books and moves newsstands and the media will be covering every twitch, every family piece of gossip and i would also like to point out that the media will try to, you know, sort of frame her as the leader of the g.o.p. pack as the g.o.p. standard bearer even though sarah palin has consistently come in second or third in polling of g.o.p. voters. >> uh-huh. now, leslie, if she does get in, then members of the tea party are going to have to pick for their -- you know, who's their favorite. do they like rand paul? do they like michelle bachmann or do they like her? >> oh, no, absolutely. and you have to remember that the -- the tea party or teapublicans i like to call them, a lot of them favor themselves as civil libertarians. rand paul is a big civil libertarian and tim pawlenty sings some of their tune. i don't think she'll be standing on that platform. when push comes to shove, the polls show even republicans may love her and like her, but they don't want to vote for her necessarily. so i don't think she's going to be ahead of the pack for the g.o.p. she might be the head of the pack for the tea party portion of the g.o.p. >> heidi, i'll give you the final word. >> yeah, i don't know if she's going to run. i don't know if she's taking this bus tour so she can gauge her popularity. that would be my guess but ultimately when it comes down to it, i'm not sure she will. she has a few more months to decide and everybody is going to turn their eyes to somebody else in the g.o.p. if she doesn't jump in. >> stand by, everybody. let's see what happens. amy holmes and leslie marshall and also heidi harris, we thank you all for joining us coast to coast, ladies. thank you. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> have a great week. all right, coming up, critics say on the circus. should it be letting elephants do heavy lifting? here's some people in joplin. >> i think that the circus people generally want to help but i think this is a bad idea. i think it's a publicity stunt and this is a bad idea. >> this is no publicity stunt. they can throw up a big sign and banner for that. if you're unappreciative of the help and you're not affected and you don't live here, maybe you should go help somewhere elsewhere you're not going to sit here and complain. >> i don't know. couldn't some people argue that having elephants in a circus in general is violates them as well? i don't know. it seems silly to me. these pictures are amazing. to me, it's amazing that the -- that the elephants are doing that work. i don't see any pictures. >> i would like to do that work. >> i don't know. >> look at the size. >> i just don't have a problem with it. >> only danger would be if the elephant got hurt but obviously, they've got that harness. it looks like everything is just fine. what do you think? do you think it's appropriate that the picadelly circus would be using the elephants to help move the debris. >> elephants makes more sense to me than the guy showing up in the clown outfit helping. do you have to wear your costume when you're helping people in joplin, missouri? only outfit you travel with. >> maybe. not sure. >> here's another story that might get you upset this morning. a lawsuit has been filed against a texas school district to stop prayer during graduation. we all know growing up, you know, if you went through the graduation procedure, a lot of times they say a little prayer as you're walking up. well, what i found interesting about this story today is the family that's suing, apparently they're agnostic and they just don't believe in school sponsored prayer. >> they do believe in suing, though. >> they do believe in suing. here's what's interesting to me. they now say that their son might not attend his graduation if they don't eliminate the prayer during the ceremony. isn't that the way that all these things should be handled? it's always one or two people who disagree with what the majority want but it's the majority that end up suffering and having to make the changes so in this case, fine, if you don't like the way in which the graduation is being handled, then that one person should just not show up. >> go to the red lobster instead of going to your ceremony. >> it might not even happen. apparently there's going to be a hearing today, a federal lawsuit has been filed by the americans united for the separation of church and state vs. medina valley which is the high school down there. here are some of the graduating seniors, how they feel about this. >> we're supposed to be happy that we're graduating and we're getting out and going to do our own thing but now we're having to deal with this. >> it's unfair. we all want to do the prayer. that's what we usually do. >> and apparently, they were going to be -- it's currently scheduled, there is a student-led invocation and prayer in the program. it's not done by, you know, a school official. it is done by the students who are designated. >> you want to hear the other side. the public schools can't require students to take part in religious worship at the price of attending their graduation. this is settled law and the district needs to stop resisting it. there you go. >> let us know what you think about that. you can e-mail or twitter. let's do some headlines for your tuesday because a frantic search for a missing 12-year-old girl is on swept out to sea, apparently. rescue crews in new hampshire spent all night on the beach looking for her. at the same time, the coast guard spent the night on the water. girl and her 20-year-old brother were swept out to sea by a rip tide last night. her brother was found alive. >> meanwhile, cindy anthony expected to take the stand again when her daughter's murder trial resumes in florida. casy anthony is accused of killing her 2-year-old in 2008. her testimony will likely include the call she made to 911 to report her granddaughter missing. she told officers casey's car smelled like a dead corpse. >> steve martin reportedly swindled in what's believed to be germany's biggest art forgery scandal ever. a painting he bought for $850,000 now said to be a fake! >> what? >> well, i think it's great. i think the more candidates that are in the race, the better. i have no doubt that republicans will field a wide, well qualified bench to go against barack obama in 2012. we have to have a change. barack obama has to be a one term president. so i'm very excited. because the more we can we can talk about the issues and all that's been happening in our country, the more i think people will be excited and we'll be showing up at the polls so we can have a change. >> the interesting thing, congresswoman is there's sort of been this reaction in the last couple of weeks with those who look to be in the g.o.p. field including yourself some people keep saying we're waiting for somebody else to jump in. this is not going to be the final list and now u these wealthy people coming to pay a visit to governor chris christie in new jersey trying to convince him to get into the race. how do you feel as a potential candidate knowing that others continue to look elsewhere? >> well, i think that's very -- that's very reasonable that people will continue to look. i don't think that's unusual. i think governor chris christie is a very exciting candidate. i met him. i like him a lot. i can see people -- why people would do that. i think the more that they hear from the candidates that are running, at some point, people will make their decision. there's always a dream team. always a dream ticket so that certainly is understandable. >> congresswoman, what is it about former governor sarah palin that drives so many members of the mainstream media just bonkers? >> well, i don't know if you're asking the right person. i will tell you, i like sarah palin a lot. i consider her a friend. and i think it's great if she can garner attention on her bus tour especially if she's pointing to our early american fights, gettysburg and the sites she's going to. i think there's nothing wrong with that. that's all good. >> listen to the difference between you two. i know she campaigned for you when you were running for re-election, when you talk to her and you hung out away from the cameras, where do you differ? >> the real comparison that i make is with barack obama and myself, and i think that's a very positive comparison. i am completely different than president barack obama. i created and ran a successful business, i'm a federal tax litigation attorney. i've handled hundreds of cases. i've raised our five children together with my husband for 23 years, we have a wide birth of experience that i can bring to this and that's the comparison that i make because after all, that's what's going to count in 2012. who will be the candidate that will create american made jobs and who can turn the economy around. the president has fail much that's what i intend to do. >> the interesting thing, though, is a lot of people and maybe when it gets down to the debate, that's when members of the g.o.p. field will start being more critical of other people that are in their own party. i think the interesting thing is people see you and sarah palin as sort of appealing to the same group of voters. would you at least agree with that assessment? >> well, that could certainly be. and i would leave that to the pundits. all i know is that i've been concentrating on my work in washington, d.c. as the member of congress. especially in regard to the debt ceiling. this is a big issue and people that i'm talking to all across the country are telling me, michelle, do not raise the debt ceiling limit. and i think we need to listen to the people. we have to stop borrowing and then we have to prioritize our spending. we can't go along with this failed policy of fantasy economics anymore. not if we want to turn our country around and be the number one economy in the world. that's what we have to do and i think that's a very powerful discussion. >> are you somebody that's going to back off from paul ryan's plan to reform and preserve medicare and medicaid? because of what happened in new york in that race in buffalo where the upset happened because they claim, because of the ryan medicare and medicaid plan, his path to prosperity? >> i voted for paul ryan's plan. he's right, we have to save and keep solvent medicare. what's the alternative? it goes into bankruptcy. paul is exactly right. the asterisk i put on that level of support are two things. number one, i want everyone to know this is the 55 and under plan. no one 55 years of age or older will be touched in anyway. the only reforms affect people 55 and younger. other thing is in midst of all the talk about facts and figures and insurance policies, we can't forget humanity. i want to see us focus on finding cures as well. cures for alzheimer's, cures for diseases that particularly deal with senior citizens, diabetes, for instance, that's what we need to do. just like we were able to eradicate polio, that's make that same type of effort for cancer and alzheimer's. that's an important area for us to concentrate as well. >> all right, michelle bachmann joining us from the granite state of new hampshire. we know you have a busy day. thank you for joining us live and we'll be watching next month in waterloo, iowa. the big announcement. >> come to waterloo! >> ok. >> thanks. >> thank you. >> coming up on show, a pharmacist saves his co-worker's life when armed robbers storm into the store in honor of his heroism, he's being fired. is that legal? interestingly enough, the vote will be 6:30 p.m. tonight? >> yeah. it will be after the markets close because they don't want the markets to panic after they see that we have not voted to raise the debt ceiling. because this is a big bad failure. it's not going to go anywhere. it's the administration's original plan to raise the debt ceiling as we've done every year for the past 14 years, or 14 times since 1996 without any fanfare. this time, a lot of fanfare. republicans don't want to see it rise without any significant budget reductions or deficit reductions. and a lot of democrats are going along with it. this will be the starting point for negotiations. joe biden has been dealing with a bipartisan group of six in the house and the senate to try to work out a compromise. is this will be a starting point going forward on what kind of compromise can be reached on cutting trillion dollars or more from the budget as a foundation or groundwork or down payment for actually getting a yea vote on raising the debt ceiling. back to you. >> steve: steve, they'll have this vote tonight at 6:30. it's going to go down to defeat. so tomorrow when the president has all the republicans in the white house behind you, they can say, hey, mr. president, your plan failed. >> well, that's right. of course, the administration originally wanted this idea, but raising the debt ceiling automatically as we've done. now we know that's not going to happen. joe biden involved in negotiations. these republicans, before they come and sit down with the president tomorrow, do want to make that statement and have the vote on the record and that's what's going to happen tonight after the markets close. 240 house republicans will meet with the president tomorrow here at the white house. the first time the whole group has met with the president since the 2010 election in which, of course, they seized the house, control of the house of representatives and then on thursday, we'll have the house democrats meet with the president. all 192 of them. back to you. >> gretchen: you're good at your math. he has all the numbers. the rest of your headlines. fox news alert. live pictures coming right now in from virginia where a tour bus overturned on i-95. police confirming at least four people have died in this crash. multiple injuries being reported. it careened off the road and flipped over, trapping passengers inside. all northbound lanes of i-95 are shut down at this hour. we'll continue to keep you updated as we get more information. two weeks after dominique strauss-kahn was arrested, another shocking arrest to tell you about. while you were sleeping, police busted another former international bank executive for allegedly sexually assaulting a maid inside his luxury hotel room here in new york city. he is the former head of egypt's bank of alexandria. he's accused of attacking the maid when she delivered tissues to his room at the pierre hotel. u.n. says 50 people are dead killed in heavy fight not guilty yemen. a brief cease fire collapsed. government troops attacked the home of a rival tribal leader. his followers struck back. this is not the sound you want to hear outside of a kindergarten classroom. a battle raged outside and the teacher sings to students. you can hear her singing the song from barney. ♪ she's being hailed a hero for keeping the students safe and calm. five gang members were killed in the shootout right outside the school. luckily no one inside the school was hurt. now it's time to bring in laura ingraham as we do every week, although it's not always on this day is it? >> i think it's kind of the best of both worlds for sarah palin because she gets enormous amount of media attention, she looks fantastic in that harley helmet the other day. >> brian: i noticed that. >> she's raising a lot of money. she knows how important it will be in these senate races. there are a lot of senate seats up and republicans have a big shot at taking the senate i think in 2012. she could be a real king maker and she doesn't have to suffer the slings and arrows as she would if she got into the race. i have no idea whether she'll get into the race. i have no personal knowledge. but right now it's a pretty good situation for her to be in. i think she looks like she's having a blast. >> steve: the huffington post refers to this as a wild goose chase. where she goes out and takes a look at a bunch of stuff. yesterday she was at fort mchenry and she was at mount vernon. there she is get -- i think that's at the national archives yesterday as well. this is driving the main stream media just bonkers. >> yeah. there is nothing that's more offensive to the old dinosaur media than someone actually visiting patriotic sites and actually looking like he or she enjoys it. so look, if ariana afghanistanton got on the bus, maybe aol would have more subscribes. she's a friend of mine. >> gretchen: sarah palin is being very coy about whether or not she's running for president. she's not out on this bus tour to raise money for senate races, is she? >> sarah is raking in huge amounts of money. if she doesn't run for president what, is she going to do with the money? i imagine she'll help governors, senators, and representatives in tight races or districts that they need to hold or make in roads in. i think it puts her in a fantastic position and keeps people busy talking. they'll talk more about palin than they'll talk about the fact that we're using more value in our homes across the country. a big story today about that. i think it's a win-win for her all the way around. >> brian: stuart varney talked about the housing continues to fall. the president played the 12th round of golf this year on memorial day. a lot of people are surprised by this. mark knoller of cbs says he's play not guilty virginia. his 70th golf outing as president. 18th at that place. last monday about this time, he was on his way to ireland to raise enough money to his irish heritage. cbs seems to be off -- >> gretchen: he tweeted that. >> you know what happened after i commented on this last week, okay? so we know what happened then. >> steve: oh, yeah! let her rip. >> it's memorial day and a lot of people do a lot of things. but i think we hope that our commander in chief does the fitting tributes and i think the president did one at arlington cemetery and his wife is doing a lot of military events. some people say it's politically timed and convenient. all i'm going to say is this, i think it would serve the country well if we had a national tutorial on the importance of remembering our troops every day and we played a lot of golf. maybe we could play a different day. is it surprising? not at all. the country unfortunately is taking a mulligan because the economy is doing really poorly. >> steve: speaking of the economy and millions and millions of dollars, so there is this town in arizona, they built the border fence. right? unfortunately, they're in nogales. apparently you can't see through it. so they're going to take it down and they're going to build a see through replacement for $12 million. >> it's extreme makeover, border fence edition. this thing -- we could kick the border fence over, which is what a lot of people do. they walk their dog, they commute in and out of the border fence. now we just want to have it be transparent so we can see the horrors on the other side of the border fence. the whole thing is ridiculous. there is no reason for it. we are capable of defending and protecting our own border and we do it once in a while. we've done a little bit of a better job over it in recent years. but this drives people crazy! we're the united states of america and we're messing around with what type of fencing we're using? >> gretchen: in playing devil's advocate, i think the argument is that the border agents say they can see what's going on on the other side of the border better if it's a clear fence. i'm just putting it out there. >> well, okay, devil. the response is, we're supposed to have all these drones flying back and forth. didn't janet napolitano do a tour on horseback and by aircraft? she's like, i'm roller blading it, i'm walking it, i'm running it. she's been getting a lot of exercise. she says things are much better. there is an area of commerce along the border and i say, yes, there is an area of commerce on the other side of the border, selling backpacks and water jugs. >> gretchen: just being fair and balanced. not being a devil. >> i know. i'm teasing. >> brian: i thought we were making a moat with alligators. >> i forgot about that. that actually worked well, i think. >> brian: i'm pro-moat. >> have is a good week. >> steve: laura ingraham joining us from the dc bureau. straight ahead, after months of silence, casey anthony could be taking the stand. but is this the right move for the defense? the judge joins us next to talk about that. >> gretchen: texas bans pat-downs at the airport, washington, d.c. plans to fight back by canceling flights. can they do that? we're reading your e-mails and tweets. >> gretchen: welcome back. a case that has america rivetted. casey anthony on trial for murdering her two-year-old daughter in florida. after a week of gripping testimony, questions being raised over whether casey herself should take the stand. alex is a former florida criminal court judge and current host of judge alex and he's my guest this morning. good morning to you. >> hi, gretchen. >> gretchen: many people, legal experts, including you, do you agree with the fact that she'll have to take the stand after those amazing claims in opening statements that she was abused by her father and her brother growing up? >> yes and no. yes, in order to make that defense, i don't see how else you can do it unless she takes the stand. no, because the defendant never has to take the stand. so they can say all kind of things and then she can just decline and refuse to testify. the problem is that if she does that, i think the prosecution would be well within its rights to ask the judge to preclude them from arguing accidental death when there is not a shred of evidence in the record that that's what happened. so in order to make the defense, yeah. >> gretchen: also what the claim was last week in opening statements was that the young two-year-old accidentally drowned and casey's father helped to cover that up. right? >> yeah. from a strategic standpoint, if it didn't really happen that way and i seriously doubt it happened that way, because i think there is a lot of problems with that defense, having her father find the body, which is what she alleges, is an out. if the prosecution is able to prove she didn't drown, she can say, i'm not the one who found the body, my father said he did. you mean my father killed her? that gives her a back door. they've got a lot of problems. >> gretchen: when they came out with those claims and they were so stunning in the opening statements, does the defense have to tell the prosecution that that's what they're going to say, so the prosecution -- >> absolutely not. no. let's face reality here. if she really drowned, why are you hearing it for the first time in opening statements? you would think that she'd be going, i'm being held on a potential death charge. she drowned. here is the other problem, they want you to believe that the father loves his daughter so much that when he finds his granddaughter dead, he drove the body away like it's a piece of garbage instead of calling the police instead of saying it was accidental. but when his daughter gets falsely accused of murder, he doesn't come forward and say, it was an accidental death? he let's his daughter face the death chamber? that doesn't make sense. >> gretchen: i know she ultimately could get the death penalty if convicted. but you do not believe that this jury would do that. why? >> first of all, because jurors are very hesitant to send women to the death chamber unless they're like warnos who was a serial killer. they don't like to do it. it's very difficult to get them to do it, and especially with a young attractive woman. i don't see it happening. secondly, they don't have a lot of aggravators. they've got cold calculated and premeditated and the child is the -- the victim is less than 12 years of old. ccp is a big one. it's not heinous and atrocious because of the theory from the state. i don't see the death penalty. >> gretchen: all right. we're seeing her mother right now in the video. she will take the stand when the trial resumes. judge, always good to talk with you and people can check their local listings for what time your show airs in their area. see you again time soon. >> thanks. >> gretchen: next on the rundown, the man with the crystal ball, why larry sabato says president obama is poised for a major scandal? >> brian: i did. our next guest says since watergate, the longest any president has gone without a major scandal is 34 months and president obama is slowly approaching that point. >> steve: the director of the university of virginia center for politics joins us live. good morning to you, larry. >> good morning. >> steve: so i saw on your web site, center for politics.or web site, you've got this paper published by a smart guy at the university of virginia and he has looked at the statistics and it shows that statistically, president obama is due for a scandal? >> yes, that's right. this young scholar, who will be at dartmouth in a month, put together i think a fascinating suggestion which is that presidents since watergate regularly have a scandal. own president bush went longer. he went 34 months without a front page scandal. that's how you define scandal. does it hit the front pages of the major newspapers? >> brian: and you're saying he went because many people thought the 9-11 story and the attack overwhelmed everything else and had us looking elsewhere. worried about afghanistan and other terrorist attacks? >> yes. i think that's one of the factors that's protected president obama. think in the last 2 1/2 years, think about all the big news stories, all the things that happened, the economic dislocation and war and osama bin laden and even mother nature, all of these things crowd out scandal stories. scandal stories tend to happen during slow news periods. i always say beware not the ides of march, often the summer doll drums. that's the greatest danger for a president. >> steve: sure. in fact, presidents reagan and bill clinton both suffered significant first term scandals as well. but here is something a little different, perhaps this time, larry, that is the fact that wouldn't you agree that the main stream media has been so supportive of this president, they might be reluctant, perhaps, to report on a scandal? >> i think that's also an explanation for why it hasn't happened. look, there are plenty of conservative media outlet and i think they would jump on something if they had the information. it may come from congressman issa, that may end up being the source of this information if and when it comes out. look, don't forget, the major news organizations, main stream media have been cut back dramatically. they don't have the kind of staff, the kind of investigative units they once did. i think that also affects the fact that there haven't been more scandals. >> brian: so far the republican field, how would you rate it? >> the republican field? it's better than the popular evaluation of it and i think eventually one of those candidates that's either in now or shortly will get in will be the nominee and you know what? people will adjust to that person, that individual will look a lot better than he or she does today. >> steve: all right. dr. sabato joining us from the university of virginia. thank you very much. they had graduation last week and now larry will probably go on a bus tour. >> brian: everybody else is. good job, professor. coming up, tornado clean-up gone to the circus? >> you need more horses than guys because one guy will use four, five, six horses in a game. that's when you play at a high level. it's not -- you need to find a place where you can get on a horse and start hitting the ball. it's a fun thing to do with family and friends. >> gretchen: the problem is you need to know how to ride a horse. we're going to put brian on a horse. how many times have you been on a horse? >> steve: i've been looking at the e-mail machine and a lot of people say, let me get this straight, so this time honored tradition of having a prayer at the ceremony will not be allowed because one family complained? >> correct. and you say this time honored tradition, you're kind of invoking the words of justice kaliya and other opinions where he points to the relationship of a call to a deity and the formation of this country. there have been some united states supreme court decisions that would disappoint a lot of americans who believe that there should be an opportunity for people individually, not state endorsed, not school endorsed, not city endorsed, to get up and make some statement in a public proceeding with regard to some religious belief. so what the school is saying here is we print this statement that any statements that are made by any speaker at this graduation are their own, they're not endorsed by the school district or the school in any way. >> steve: that seems fair, doesn't it? >> it does seem fair, but at the same time there are some supreme court decisions that point otherwise. the area is murky in a lot of ways. there are decisions that say you can't have a student-led prayer before football games, going back to a decision in 2000. and so it's got to be decided on a fact by fact specific basis. the facts are going to come out. >> steve: it would seem to me that if your child is one of the kids who is top of the class or something like that, asks to speak, that you can say anything you want to as a child, and if the school says you can't say this or that, isn't that censorship? >> in some ways, there is this clash in terms of the first amendment. do we protect or lose our first amendment speech rights in this zeal to insure that the government is not establishing religion or coercing people to believe one thing or another? the truth is, a lot of americans are upset about this because it is a long-standing american tradition to have a call to a deity during a prayer. we'll see what happens in this case. >> steve: having a hearing today. >> it's disturbing. >> steve: see you back here tomorrow. now i see gretchen in the green room. >> gretchen: we recovered from our polo match. so we want to go on to stunts like these. how could you forget these?
